I was in Mexico during the last election, the one in 2000 when Vicente Fox, the PAN candidate, shocked the nation by defeating Ernesto Zedillo and, more importantly, the PRI party which had been in control of Mexican politics for nearly 90 years.

Shot this during a demonstration against a new commercial musical theatre in a mostly residential quarter. People there and from all over Hamburg fought the authorities over it. Despite clashes and setbacks, the people did win. The "Red Flora" is now a self ruled culture center. That’s where you can meet the guy in the picture.

This weekend there will be huge demos in France against the abolition of dismissal protection. All over the world there will be rallies against the War of Terror and War on Iraq. There is a database for local events in the U.S.

Bush’s trump card is that God moves in mysterious ways; just because the orders don’t appear to make sense doesn’t mean they weren’t given. But we could make a legitimate distinction here between "mysterious" and "self-evidently crackers". We cannot, as mortals, say that God definitely, positively did not speak to Bush. But we can infer that either God is mad or Bush is mad. It is more heartening and less heretical to believe the latter; though, of course, God being omnipotent, He did make Bush mad. Coalition aircraft flew 52 close air support missions Jan. 3 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Royal Air Force GR-4s provided close air support to Coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Bayji.

BAIJI – A U.S. air strike killed up to 14 members of a single family and wounded at least two people in an attack on a house in Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, on Monday night, an Iraqi security force spokesman said. Police in nearby Tikrit put the death toll at six. The U.S. military, responding to an inquiry, said aircraft had targeted a house after three men suspected of planting a roadside bomb were seen entering the building. They gave no death toll.
