War On Iran: Economic Pressure Is Not A One-Way Road

During talks at the recent meeting of the UN General Assembly Iran has repeated its proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz:

Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister, told reporters at a press briefing at the United Nations General Assembly that the proposal closely mirrored the commitments laid out in a so-called memorandum of understanding that was struck between the United States and Iran in June but quickly unraveled.

He said Iran was ready to begin putting the plan into effect as soon as Washington agreed to it.

“We have introduced a plan to the United States through the intermediators that if certain conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz would be open on the end of the seventh day and talks would restart,” Mr. Araghchi said.

The offer is a return to the MoU which is then to be executed in a compressed timeframe:

Iranian officials said that while the proposal was effectively the same as the memorandum of understanding made in June, it was designed to move at a much faster pace. In the earlier agreement, a 60-day time frame was set for reaching nuclear negotiations.

Under the conditions that Iran has set for the agreement, according to Mr. Araghchi, during the seven days all hostilities would end, including in Lebanon; the U.S. would release Iran’s frozen assets — estimated at at least $12 billion — waive sanctions on Iranian oil and lift the naval blockade on Iran. Then, on the last day, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened.

Talks on the nuclear issue would follow thereafter.

Iran is expecting the Trump administration to pick up on this. Foreign Minister Araghchi will stay in New York until Monday, presumably to facilitate further talks.

Agreeing to Iran’s condition is likely the last chance for President Trump to lower energy prices before the midterm elections, especially for gas and diesel.

But there are various forces which will try to hinder him. The Zionists want Iran destroyed. Any attempt to a peaceful solution is intolerable for them.

Some of the Gulf countries, in silently collaboration with Israel, are also opposed to an agreement:

Efforts to rekindle talks to end the war between the U.S. and Iran are running into resistance from major Persian Gulf oil producers that have swung against any accommodation of Tehran, people familiar with the matter said.

Mediators including Qatar are pressing for a fresh round of talks in Oman as soon as next week to try to get Washington and Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and start the process of winding down the war. President Trump said Tuesday he believed the two sides would meet again soon.

Gulf countries generally agree that Trump shouldn’t escalate militarily against Iran. But oil kingpin Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are lobbying the Trump administration to keep up the economic pressure on Iran and not agree to concessions that would ease sanctions or the U.S. Navy blockade, the people said.

The Saudi and Emirati presume that Iran will yield under pressure. But such a view of Iran is outdated. It does not account for recent changes in Iran’s doctrine which have evolved as a consequence of the war. As Danny Citrinowicz explains:

[T]he current crisis is once again exposing significant differences among the Gulf states.

The Saudi and Emirati approach could prove to be a dangerous gamble. The assumption appears to be that sustained external pressure, combined with growing pressure inside Iran, will eventually force Tehran to compromise. But that outcome is far from certain. Domestic pressure may not produce Iranian restraint or capitulation. It could instead encourage Tehran to take greater risks, escalate against its adversaries, and shift some of the costs of the confrontation onto the Gulf states themselves.

The larger problem is that Riyadh and Abu Dhabi may still be dealing with Iran as if it were the Iran of before the war. Under Ali Khamenei, there was at least an argument that overwhelming pressure could affect Tehran’s calculations and encourage caution. But what I call “Iran 3.0” is a different system: one in which the IRGC plays a much more dominant role and a new, more radical and less experienced leadership faces enormous internal and external pressure.

Under these circumstances, escalation rather than capitulation may increasingly become Tehran’s preferred response.

The U.S. recently threatened economic sanctions against airports which serve Iranian airlines. China rejected such pressure and flights between Iran and China continue on schedule. But the Gulf countries are following the dictates from Washington. The have stopped servicing Iranian carriers.

Iran 3.0 wont have that. The signals coming from Tehran are pointing to a hostile reaction:

Significant comments today amid UNGA U.S.-Iran diplomacy from Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s top national security body, the Supreme National Security Council.

He says Pezeshkian & Araghchi went to New York to convey Iran’s internally agreed terms, not negotiate new ones: “There has been no discussion of changing the conditions.” Araghchi was tasked with transmitting them through mediators.

Rezaei says Iran won’t return to the diplomacy of the Islamabad ceasefire. He says Washington must first accept Iran’s conditions and has “4–5 days” to act. The short deadline amounts to an implicit threat of further escalation if it doesn’t.

He also warned neighboring states aiding US pressure on Iranian aviation: block Iranian flights and “your airports will have no flights.”

His message overall is that Tehran is open to diplomacy, but its terms are fixed and US action must come first.

To make it official an advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran repeated Mohsen Rezaei’s threat:

Advisor to #Iran’s Leader Mokhber: Iran will remember [those who are] aligning with US in executing hostile policies. Our strategy is clear: regional airspace is either open to everyone or to no one. If Iran is denied flights & airport services, no country in the region will have access either.

You may not want to plan for a changeover in Dubai. Iran has all the missiles and drones it needs to disable any airport in its hemisphere.

Citrinowics’ warning is thus valid:

Washington and its Gulf partners should be careful about assuming that additional pressure will automatically produce additional Iranian restraint. Against the Iran that is emerging from this war, pressure without a credible diplomatic off-ramp could produce exactly the opposite result.

And if that happens, Saudi Arabia and the UAE may be among the first to discover that a strategy designed to contain Iran can quickly boomerang against the Gulf itself.

Meanwhile Iran’s parliament speaker MB Ghalibaf is mocking rising U.S. interests rates:

Happy 5.1% 10Y America 🎉. Mashallah. Celebrate: it’s the floor two years out.

You wanted Iran dragged back to 1970s? Nobody told you Iran isn’t for arrogant amateurs? We’ll return you to 1970s rates, plus high gas prices, diesel shortages and bell-bottoms. Enjoy the nostalgia!

Thanks for the posting b

I see Iran, backed by China/Russia, as driving this bus of our civilization war and a little titmouse bird tells me that this weekend kinetic activity will be important.

The GCC tinpot dictators are facing existential challenge to their control that is no longer protected by the US.  This means that the Iran conflict is about the whole matrix of colonialism in the gulf region that includes Occupied Palestine along with the tinpot sheiks.

As ugly as this may get, humanity needs to go through this period to rid itself of the elitist cancer in our species behavior towards each other.

Oil fell to $91-92 but 10 year yield is up 3 basis points at 5.19%. Corporate bond yields are now soaring too.

Someone is lying here, and the suspicion is the bond market is too big to manipulate for certain players, contrary to the paper oil market.

Anyone remember February? When Donald Trump explained that economic pressure doesn’t work, we’ll have the Pentagon beat some sense into them? The same Donald Trump that now says military pressure doesn’t work, let economic pressure do its work? The same Donald Trump that called off JCOPA nearly a decade ago, watched Iran still stick to the terms, despite sanctions re-imposed? The same Donald Trump that, despite Iran still abiding the defunct JCOPA-conditions, blasted away at Iran last summer, declaring victory after he had “destroyed Iran’s nuclear potential for a very long time?” To start another war six months later, to eliminate the nuclear threat to Israel?Iran, not just the government, its people, too, have learned from half a century of economic pressure and America breaking contracts before the ink is dry that giving in only makes things worse. And that this time around, America has to pay upfront, before Iran delivers.Iran has all the time in the world. Trump has six weeks before the mid-terms could make his life hell on earth. And two years before he gets kicked out of office for good.

Great reporting. But I’m not sure if the Saudi/Emirati news is accurate. It just does not seem in the interest of the Sheiks in question to antagonize Iran even more right now … this may be USIZ psyops.

Re the airports, not a good or righteous move if Iran attacks them. While the concept of bombing countries that host the enemy soldiers during wartime makes sense, every country has a right to trade decisions including allowing air travel or not. If Iran follows through here, it would be a bridge too far and I doubt they will do it, absent a renewed kinetic war.

Posted by: Caliman | Sep 25 2026 17:41 utc | 11

  1. Iran can almost certainly last another six weeks so it isn’t hindered by the US election. If some exiting members switch votes, it could work in its favor. But prior to the midterms, Iran has the benefit of a possibly desperate Trump to negotiate with so likely taking a shot to see what it can get.

@11 Caliman

“But I’m not sure if the Saudi/Emirati news is accurate”

UAE is basically impotent regarding Iran, whatever they call for is a mixture of influences and favourably positioning themselves in the larger (mostly western) picture.

Saudi has important oil supply, a strategic position for reaching the whole region, a large land area, and so what it decides counts much more in real terms.

Saudi is very dependent on western support for defence, amongst other, meaning if it wants to defend itself it also has to fit in with the wishes of suppliers to some extent. It also entertains some idea of regional hegemony. The idea of a strong or nuclear Iran does not suit it.

Aside from that, the leadership is compromised with or under strong influence from some western states at political level.

It is no coincidence that both Saudi and UAE are both dabbling with Yemen and east Africa, are more caught up with “Israel” than other states. Saudi is increasing its stance, especially rhetoric, regarding Yemen.

In other words, if it is a psyop, they aren’t objecting.

I disagree, with no proof , other than a fellow who accused Pence of  an evil act  of depravity mere weeks before he was ‘suicided’ after his accusation was made public. Occurred during tRump’s first administration.. I believe he’s being blackmailed, by the zionist’s for an extremely grievous and heinous crime, that he committed via Epstein and in the presence of his first term vice president Pence, which might well have been one of the reasons he picked Pence as his running mate? The crime is purportedly beating an adolescent male child to an inch of their life and then cutting their skull so their brain can be eaten raw. In the belief they can capture a measure of youthfulness thru that extreme act of evilness.

Would you want to keep that a secret, at all costs? Then consider tRump’s personality and during the apex of  his career.

– “Fars News Agency, citing an informed Iranian source, has denied reports by Axios and Al Jazeera about a new round of U.S.-Iran negotiations, claiming the reports are intended primarily to influence oil prices and stabilize markets.

The source also rejected Al Jazeera’s claim that Iran is sending technical experts to New York to participate in negotiations, describing the reports as false”

– “Contrary to Fars and Tasnim, unfortunately negotiations (albeit through mediators) are most definitely taking place at the sidelines of the UN.

Pezeshkian spilled the beans to NBC and Fox News, admitting Iran’s various weaknesses (no oil selling / limited exports) & intent to reach a deal soon, substantially reducing Iran’s leverage.

This whole circus is a debacle and the trip to New York should have never been authorized in the first place.”

james – I’m not sure what I’d do, faced with the awesome responsibility of defending myself against the world empire. But one thing may not be giving up on my moral stance of attacking primarily military targets nor trampling on the rights of neighbor states. I don’t know: when one is the weaker party in terms of sheer force, the hearts and minds battle becomes even more critical, no?
So I’d keep attacking the actual enemy’s available targets, of which there are still many in the neighborhood. And I’d point out that sanctions and embargoes themselves are acts of war and can be responded to kinetically.

“But what I call “Iran 3.0” is a different system: one in which the IRGC plays a much more dominant role and a new, more radical  pragmatic and less experienced naive leadership faces enormous internal and external pressure.”

I urge barflies to exercise cautions with regards to any quotes attributed to Pezeshkian and Araghchi’s interview with US media.

Watch the entire interview and form your own opinion. Snippets can always be taken out of context to misrepresent.

I would also like to remind barflies that MES is not based in Iran.

He was arrested for being pro-Iranian and released. Make what you will of it, knowing the repression currently in place in all those states.

@43 too scents

Am inclined to think the presentation by Pezeshkian is to register a reality at public and international level, for example:

“Pezeshkian spilled the beans to NBC and Fox News, admitting Iran’s various weaknesses (no oil selling / limited exports) & intent to reach a deal soon, substantially reducing Iran’s leverage.” MES

The US admin knows the reality already, as would admin of US allies. Now the US public do also.

So declaring the effect of economic blockade openly, adds public justification to current and future Iranian retaliation to the sanctions.

A return to MoU would be an offer to avoid escalation and the negative realities ROW would face as consequence.

The MoU was not respected by US and was binned by the US.

The initial aggression was by US.

It puts the ball back in the US court, and certifies Iranian attempts at diplomatic resolution.

…but the ‘resistance minded’ probably see any ‘friendly looking’ interaction with US as unworthy, will be more attentive to how that can be used by US, the effect on moral in Iran, possibility of standoff being watered down etc. ?

IDK, but for most people I suppose also it would seem odd, unpleasant or unacceptable if a country bombed their people and leaders, and then own leader goes and sits down for TV of that nation.

Nevertheless,  pipsqueaks.

“Iran’s Foreign Minister at the UNSC:

Iran has presented a specific plan to the US, with a timeframe of 7 days. If conditions are met, free from pressure and threats, the Strait of Hormoz can be reopened within 7 days.

This 7-day deadline begins immediately after the US accepts it. The Strait of Hormoz could be reopened on the 6th day, and on the 7th day, negotiations will begin to reach a final agreement.

We conveyed this message to the US via Qatar.

– This is what most outlets were referring to regarding indirect negotiations”

https://t.me/FotrosResistancee/23969

Although conditions are not mentioned, nor how long offer remains.

Presumably based on MoU.

How is anyone to know if it is rejected, or the offer ended …

They won’t abide by a thing.

I don’t see Iran waiting around to find out frankly.

I don’t think Motjaba Khomeni gives a shit what Alarachi   &  Pezeshkiyan say or do in NY.

The U.S. can:

  • Stop the campaign in Lebanon and on all fronts. (Even this is a concession, the first agreement included withdrawing from Lebanon)
  • Hand over the 12 billion
  • Remove blockade
  • Remove sanctions

or straight remains closed and Iran will begin their preemptive strikes at all the currently built up forces in the region, hitting all the KCs first…

I doubt Motjaba believes anything other than fighting for the next several years will happen.

iran is set for a long war,  so is Russia & China.

btw,  I heard somewhere that Yemen was getting some Russian help,  apparently… years ago, there is some faction of Muslims in Russia, maybe an offshoot of Chechens,  (?). But anyways,  rumor is,  some assistance coming in not really talked about.

maybe at least an additional reason,  France & UK so hot to trot over there… but Turkey better cool it’s jets…Iran can cause them boatloads of misery at their borders if they keep their nonsense up.

Iran, Russia, and China need to finish the job off and destroy US power, Israel under Zionism (recall it Palestine), dismiss the unctuous turn coat opulent Arabs who only have self-interest and a culture of god-like luxe they seek to defend. This is what is needed to bring genuine peace to the world. Trump’s administration and any proxies must be destroyed as well as Netanyahu and his ilk of Epstein- class manipulators.

46th Chess Olympiad – Australian Player Boycotts Israel

My name is Heather Richards and I am board 3 for the 2026 Australian Women’s Chess Olympiad Team.

Today, for round 7 of the 46th Chess Olympiad, the Australian Women’s Team has been paired against Israel. I was due to play this round, having rested the previous round.

I am not playing. I am participating in the sporting boycott of Israel.

Russia is currently banned from competing in the Chess Olympiad due to the invasion of Ukraine. Israel should be banned from the Chess Olympiad.

I am doing this because Israel is committing a genocide.

The Chess Olympiad is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, with over 200 countries competing this year. Letting Israel participate in major sports events allows them to engage in sportswashing of their reputation and to project an image of normality to the world while they commit genocide and apartheid.

Over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7 2023, over 21,500 of which are children. There have been almost 1,400 fatalities since the “ceasefire”. At least 21,000 children have been disabled. Israel’s own internal documents state that the civilian deaths are about 83% of all deaths.

In 2025, the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on Occupied Palestinian Territory found that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. In 2026, they also found that Israeli authorities and security forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children as part of their genocidal and atrocity crimes in both Gaza and the West Bank.

The International Court of Justice has issued arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity for Netanyahu and other Israeli ministers. Israel should be banned from all sporting events just like apartheid South Africa was.

I oppose genocide. I oppose the Israeli apartheid which denies Palestinians basic rights and dignity. I oppose the illegal occupations of the Palestinian territories as per the ruling of the International Court of Justice.

I stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Thanks for the Fox interview link.

I, like many others had a poor impression of Pezeshkian.

Despite the very leading questions, he had answered forcefully and intelligently.

His comment about China is very interesting. He said China has not been able to release the payments for goods paid so far.

Also that he does not follow the minutiae of military operation, saying that is for the military commanders to do what they need to do when asked about US servicemen death.

His UN speech and this interview have completely changed my opinion, and I can’t see what Fotros finds offensive.

indeed… but as Biden pointed,  regarding the 2nd amendment… “what good are those (guns) going to do for the American people… we (government) have nukes”…

so Iran is hardly alone in its US nuke threats…the American people themselves were threatened with being nuked should they lift their heads…

Let’s go to the memory hole shall we:

“Those who say the blood of lib- — ‘the blood of patriots,’ you know, and all the stuff about how we’re going to have to move against the government,” President Biden explained. “Well, the tree of liberty is not watered with the blood of patriots. What’s happened is that there have never been — if you wanted or if you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons.”

the only thread relevance I was making,  is that Biden was very clear of what was needed to take on the government…

So,  if Iran were listening… they would load up on China air JC whatever’s,  and lots of nukes… since Biden let the world know,  what was necessary when taking on (the US) government…even to its own citizens.

Snag being that in order to get that amendment into place and active, you would first have to effectively control the government ….. which without that amendment already being there, you could not do.
So the amendment would never be inserted.

@71 Suresh

TBH I just hardly find time to watch any video at all, thanks for your link and it is bookmarked for if/when I do.

Same goes for Pezeshkian, I have watched about half a minute of – it tells me enough about who a person is usually and of their sincerity.

I did read and note at the time that of funds being blocked in China, which I also found unusual. I don’t know enough about Chinese payment systems, possible refusals to transact by any foreign bank, or if China has agreed to freeze the funds, to comment more.

I do know China hit back when attempts to sanction its banks were suggested previously, at one point.

As for resistance dissaproval, I think that they are often ‘tuned in’ to events at a different level. Just for example they might consider that the enemy is particularly spiteful and might use Pezeshkian’s presentation as example to say ‘those values don’t count anymore’ while destroying Iran. In other words use it to teach people not to speak out or oppose. So far the US and co. have managed to discredit even the idea of negotiation, have managed to involve large parts of western population in, or at least able to be manipulated as cumplicit in, genocide.

It is another reality, and these reporters often speak as their conscience or intuition guides them I think. Equally, they are just past having any consideration of worth for the US, very clear cut because there is not space for that uncertainty, given they are being continuously and directly threatened.

I don’t know, but it is fair that some hold a strict and questioning line also I think.

Behold all mankind standing paralyzed in fright
Listening, numb to voices cut off in mid-flight

A Satanic Ritual of Inversion.

The Kings of the Earth resplendent in their Might
Join together to shed innocent blood in the Night

A Satanic Ritual of Inversion.

The bold and the brave bragging hypersonic might
Yet, cowed by the Kings they flee into the night

A Satanic Ritual of Inversion.

Yet,
Out of the darkness a lone hero brings the light
Ragged, starved but brave, Yemen joins the fight.

A Satanic Ritual of Inversion.

His rations are meagre, his home a steel cage
No empire of earth has ever defeated his rage
No Laws did he write but Justice Lives in him

The Law he follows, born in the mists of time.
Held in his Left Hand, his Sword in the Right,
To perform before angels in divine adoration
The Sacred Ritual of Just Restoration.

Out of the Yemen a fire burns bright.

Too many are paying too much attention to Pezeshkian & Aragchi’s performances in New York last week imagining that they represent the actual position of the Iranian state.  This is simply not the case and if fact if any of you bothered to watch Pezeshkian’s performance at BRICS last week you would likely agree.  That pair are more interested in being ‘friends’ with amerika than protecting their nation.
Pezeshkian made a big speech at the clique of BRICS responsible for ensuring that BRICS nations can transfer international funds outside the SWIFT system so they cannot be sanctioned.
Pezeshkian’s speech as about urging that every currency possible be brought into the system so that a foreign investor who wished to can invest in Iran’s businesses.

While the nation is in a war to establish its sovereignty their President is away trying to flog that sovereignty to the highest bidder – Private Equity Rulez OK – well according to Pezeshkian, that is.  Meanwhile the people many of whom voted for Pezeshkian about 18 months ago, now disagree entirely and have learned at considerable cost, that Iran cannot possibly trust ‘the west’ especially amerika to do anything other than trample them & steal their resources.

The problem is the so-called ‘reformists’ who have maintained this contradictory position since the 1980’s as they have been seduced by wealth.  That is not the bulk of the people, the military or the religious authorities who have been wrasslin’ them ever since, other than the usual workers who get seduced by their dreams of wealth – same falsehoods as the rest of the world has faced since time immemorial.

In Iran’s case the sell off has been prevented over the years by Ayatollah Khamenei and his supporters who believes that security comes from everyone in the region feeling secure, hence the work of the late General Solemani.

It will take too long to explain – better people watch this documentary which sums up the post revolutionary history.
Titled “Khamenei’s Last Move” and scripted by Jedaal TV’s founder Ali Alizadeh the doco covers the political in-fighting Khamenei had to overcome to build Iran’s impregnable defenses.
Lastly the first effort as this post was much better but somehow it disappeared in front of my face when grabbing the link above so here’s hoping this one catches cos I’m not having another go -any typos will stay forever. It is certainly the most informative vid on Iran’s recent history I have viewed check it out.

AKAIK there is no evidence of Iran “possessing a sophisticated interlocking air defence system”.
Although I strongly suspect the country is holding something of this nature in reserve, against the possibility of nuclear gravity bombs or similar.

The Iranian diplomats at UN are obviously reading the agreed script for diplomats, to impress the RoW.
While the essential preparations are undertaken by military working under the Supreme Leader.

“Sophisticated” may be too strong a word at this point but there is evidence that the most sophisticated Western airforce cannot operate over Iranian airspace without guaranteed risk.

That is sufficient to deter any notion of saturation bombing Iran.

As for Pezeshkian and Aragchi behaviour at the UN, it’s classic Persian misdirection.

The iron fist in the velvet glove.

Some years ago I saw a news item where a prime minister from the shitty little entity ( Olmert I think) was addressing a jew audience in London. His humourous warm up comment he started with was “they say in England an antisemite is someone who hates jews, more than necessary”.Oh how they laughed.
Regardless of what laws the Oz government is trying to inflict on its population, the Australian chess master’s contempt is probably way below what most Australians consider unnecessary.

As was proven at the UNGA, the entire Collective West are Outlaws surpassing the dastardly level of the Hitlerian and Japanese Outlaws from WW2. Of course, this isn’t the first time I’ve written this same lamentable Truth. Wolff & Hudson asked who is REALLY behind the ongoing atrocities and what is their PURPOSE. The broadbrush answer–Epstein Syndicate–IMO isn’t specific enough. The purpose seems easier to pin-down, but the two need to be matched with those directing the Trump Gang. I’d really like to know what the Russians and Chinese know.

Consider also that the malevolent entity you refer to as “Wisco” is possibly still lurking out there as well.  It could also be a “thought form” or Tulpa which has become sentient and growing by feeding on the energy required to run the internet.  The network television show, Max Headroom was most prescient in that respect.
