Not the first time reports of a shoot-out between different branches of Ukrainian security services have emerged:
Shootout between SBU and GUR in Kyiv: police blocked Shumskoho Street, there are injured
On the night of September 2, a shootout between security forces took place in the Dnipro district of the capital. As of the morning, the confrontation was ongoing
This is reported by RegioNews with reference to “Ukrainian Truth” and the Kyiv Municipal Administration .
Three employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate are reported to have been injured.
According to media reports, the confrontation between the SBU and the GUR is somehow connected with the disappearance of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the GUR unit “Russian Volunteer Corps”.
Law enforcement officers called it a “special police operation.”
Police have now blocked off Shumskoho Street, where a shootout between security forces took place. Traffic and pedestrian traffic are restricted.

The mainstream media appears to be coordinating their headlines against the idea of resistance as the UK hints at military conscription for the ‘meat-grinder‘ of the Ukraine-Russia war.
Headlines across much of the state-corporate press are parroting warnings of “severe” penalties i.e. large fines, for anyone who dares to refuse to die for the Nazi-riddled, most corrupt nation on the European continent.
Europe and the US see Ukraine’s war as a way to weaken Russia, and have admitted killing a peace deal that could have ended it within weeks of it starting in 2022.
The supposed justification for this war push is Russian ‘threats’ to the UK, which are in fact a response to UK weapons killing Russian civilians.
The resurgence of conscription is to be ‘celebrated’, apparently.

But while the blue, red and teal Tories in Parliament may be all for it, anti-war activists are calling for coordinated resistance, including former MP for Derby North, Chris Williamson.
There must be mass civil disobedience against these plans to bring in conscription. The warmongering lunatics running the country must be resisted and ultimately ousted.

Media manufactures consent, undermines resistance
Governments, state-linked think-tanks and their media allies have been pushing a relentless pro-war narrative for years, including a drip-drip on the supposed ‘need’ for conscription — one that increased to a flow after security-state asset Keir Starmer got into power. As with almost everything else that matters, there is no improvement under his replacement Andy Burnham.
Now the same usual suspects, helped by a stream of former spies and military officers, are pushing the ‘need’ for conscription. With Burnham also agreeing to provide one of his biggest donors with a huge unpaid workforce, the UK’s young people are being manoeuvred into a stark choice: forced Labour and ‘huge’ fines or be blown apart for the sake of corrupt elites.
Will the people of the UK resist, or allow themselves and their children to be herded like sheep to the slaughter — yet again — for the sake of those who consider themselves born to rule?
Previous post re “conscription” didn’t seem to need any comment.
The latest Prime Minister Burnham (regardless of Party label they’re all the same, really) has also said that UK “welfare” must be cut to increase the funding of allegedly “defence” forces.
“Defending” who or what? — nothing British, that’s for sure.

To be honest, there isn’t a great deal to be seen as it was taken at night, and the videographer was not sure where the gunshots were coming from, but there is the sound of repeated and loud firing.

This situation is getting quite dangerous, because Russia might be forced to be assume that Nato could launch an attack.
The city of London is activating its puppets in Europe recklessly to try to attack Russia. Why are they doing that? Because the EU/UK/US economic/financial systems are very near to implosion. Once interest payments of tax revenues exceed 30% and welfare state have to be ransacked to finance the war industry, the economy base literally falls off the cliff, and suddenly the slow moving train wreck doesn’t look so slow anymore.
When the President of the European Commission publicly declares that Russia has carried out attacks on EU soil using military equipment, and in the same breath positions NATO for retaliatory strikes, then it’s no longer diplomatic small talk over coffee—it’s a crystal-clear rhetorical declaration of war.
Whoever tells the world press that the adversary has launched a military attack on their own territory and that they’re now cranking up the pressure together with the world’s most powerful military alliance is sweeping any room for negotiations or excuses right off the table.
This is the final nail in the coffin for quiet backroom diplomacy and an open switch to full confrontation mode, because with this, they’re publicly hurling the gauntlet of feud right into Moscow’s face and boxing themselves in rhetorically so tightly that backpedaling without total loss of face is no longer even possible.

The German government has blamed Russia for the very strange “attack” on a Ukrainian Antonov loading up with German weapons in Leipzig where a commercial drone apparently fitted with explosives but apparently with a faulty detonator was “found” just beside the plane. The Russians, of course, denied it was them and very strange denial since had a drone blown up a “civilian” Ukrainian cargo plane on German soil surely the Russians would be blamed so why deny if that was their plan? Better yet why not send another drone to blow it up this time. Anyway Russia House in Berlin, a structure built during the DDR in the 80s and owned by the Soviet and later Russian government as a cultural centre for various Soviet nationalities and later Russian arts and culture has been denied license to operate and the Russian consulate in Bonn has been told to close. No word on the inevitable expropriation of the quite nice building.
The drone hysteria has been something to behold. I may be wrong but outside actual stray combat drones the various strange “ghost drones” started with the Copenhagen Airport incident which the Prime Minister called the most serious security situation in Denmark since WW2 and another minister compared to 9/11. In the event an airport worker no doubt driven to hysteria by the European media and social media echo chamber saw a small scheduled plane coming to land, videoed it and declared it to be two drones. A police helicopter was dispatched to search for the drone and dozens of new sightings appeared… At some point afterward a Danish soldier fired at what he thought was a low flying drone, it turned out to be a higher flying commercial flight that fortunately was not in range of his weapon.
Months (!) later the police announced that the video clearly showed the small plane and the second light was lens glare and that the other drone was in fact the police helicopter.

But not before the hysteria had spread all over Europe with phantom drones appearing at airports all over the continent. To my knowledge outside that DR documentary in Denmark there has been no serious retractions from the media and no doubt many people still think these dastardly Russian drone incursions to disrupt European airports were real. My favourite incident was the one in Lithuania and Latvia where balloons from Belarus smuggling cigarettes caused the Vilnius and Riga airports into shutdown and triggered a full military alert at one point. There were also supposed Russian drones making incursions at US air bases in the UK. Turns out the initial sighting was an F-15… The subsequent ones were various benign lights, more of their own aircraft and police helicopters. But not before the ghouls at the IISS (Who also wrote the “dodgy dossier”, staffed by retired CIA/MI6 psychos) claimed the Russians were launching drones from their evil “shadow fleet” causing some accused ships, to be raided by various European nations. Can you guess what they found? If your answer was no drones or any signs of them being filled with any suspicious electronic equipment, you’d be right.
The Independent through their “i paper” also incredibly suggested that through their “open source intelligence” had identified several GRU agents working as seasonal fruit pickers in the general region of the bases and that these men had launched the drones. (The drone sightings were in the winter, not exactly the time for fruit picking…) And anyway how are journos identifying GRU agents and not MI5?
The whole hysteria about the drones reminds of the infamous Swedish ghost submarine sightings of the 80s/90s.

If Nato think it can threaten Russian civil aviation, the message is that the threat can be reversed.

He makes absurd threats towards Russia, and now that it has had enough of him and no longer seeks to talk with “terrorists”, he seems to be surprised that Kiev gets smashed with Russian missiles and drones. Not fair seems to be his reaction.
Does he realize a real war is about destruction – winning or losing – or is it some sort of imaginary computer game for him?

The rhetoric from a number of European governments has become steadily harder, while military support for Ukraine has moved from temporary assistance towards something resembling a long-term policy of containing and weakening Russia. From the Kremlin’s perspective, that changes the calculation. If Russia concludes that European states intend to arm Ukraine indefinitely, expand military infrastructure on Russia’s borders and treat permanent confrontation with Moscow as the new normal, then the argument inside Russia will increasingly be: why wait?
the confrontation already exists, Europe is already participating in the war indirectly, and Russia therefore gains nothing by continuing to respect a distinction its opponents are steadily eroding.
Combine that with the lesson Moscow may believe it has learned from Ukraine — that European states are willing to provide weapons and money but deeply reluctant to commit their own soldiers — and the temptation to force the issue becomes obvious.
Ukraine has allowed Europe to confront Russia while Ukrainians do almost all of the fighting. That option does not exist if the confrontation moves into Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania. Europe cannot simply ship Ukrainian soldiers into Estonia and ask them to defend NATO territory. British, French, German, Polish and other NATO troops would have to fight Russia themselves. They will not do that.
So the Russian calculation may well have become brutally simple: European hostility is becoming permanent, European military involvement is increasing anyway, and yet European societies remain unwilling to accept the casualties of direct war.

But I am so utterly and completely over Ukraine. I only glance at the news each day to see if the country has been annihilated yet. I long for the day to wake up and read that the Kiev regime has been bombed to dust; the AFU has been forced to surrender face down on the ground; the Europeans are sitting there with egg all over their face; Moscow has decided to install someone to run the fucking country, sensibly; the US has cut its losses and gone home with tail vetween its legs; NATO has decided that taking on Russia was a fool’s errand and that Eastern European security involves a whole new security framework towards peace in that shit-box land called Ukraine.
Yeah, a fantasy, but that’s where I am currently at in regards to The European “Troubles”.

Can we be sure that what Zelensky says is what he himself believes?
I get the impression – and I hope some of the more knowledgeable people here will disabuse me of that impression if I’m wrong – is that Zelensky is simply amouthpiece for others in Ukraine. He speaks with a gun to his head.
I base this on what I read a long time ago – that anybody who proposes any settlement to the conflict that gives away any Ukrainian territory whatsoever is to be regarded as a traitor and therefore fair game, someone to be eliminated.

EU is heading into next winter with current gas storage running above the 10 year average. That’s going into tightening LNG supply and much higher prices.
Doesn’t bode well for EU competitiveness or its ability to keep funding Ukraine. Or of course it can fund the black hole, but it’s going to be much harder out of a shrinking tax base and stagnating economy than otherwise.

The best Russian counter to any Nato missiles and weapons that launched through Ukraine is concentrating destroying the heavy truck and trailers on Ukrainian highways. Since Nato camouflages trucks, just hit all of them, no discrimination between what may or may not be a private civilian truck.
Augmenting by destroying gas stations, pushing this wave of station destruction further west/SW from Kharkov, Sumy, Dnipro and further north from Odessa are a good augmentation for this strategy.

Yes, but another way is just destroying fuel transports and trucks so it becomes very hard to transport those drones in large numbers to where they need to be launched. It seems the so-called pressure by Tokayev and Modi is mostly because they are worried about US secondary sanctions on their firms or banks. Overstated worries, considering there are alternative ways to transact than US banks or currency.

Until alternatives to trading in US dollars are easily accessible, the US still has the ability to destroy the currencies of other nations. Germany is bust. Attempting to manufacture a few cheap drones out of Chinese parts won’t save Germany from collapse.
And if Russia destroys fuel transports in Ukraine there’s a decent chance those drones won’t even get launched, or only a small amount of them.
Military keynesiasm is a last ditch, desperate idea.
No one saw this coming 😂. With its economy in tatters, Germany decides to save itself with a wartime economy built to attack Russia. This won’t end well.

There was a very interesting discussion on The Duran about something that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: just as Russia appears to be shedding some of its previous restraint, countries within the wider BRICS orbit are lining up to tell Moscow to exercise still more of it.
Look at the interventions.
Tokayev has publicly pushed for the war to be frozen and negotiations resumed. Modi has again urged Putin to bring the conflict to an end. China has consistently emphasised de-escalation and negotiation.
At some point the Russians must surely ask themselves a very simple question:
Where exactly has five years of restraint got us?
Russia has spent years worrying about escalation, worrying about the sensitivities of China and India, worrying about frightening the Global South, and presumably listening repeatedly to friendly governments urging Moscow not to cross one threshold after another.
And what has it received in return?
NATO involvement has deepened. Western weapons have become steadily more capable. Ukrainian attacks have penetrated further into Russia. Russian economic and strategic infrastructure has increasingly come under attack. Sanctions remain. The objective of weakening Russia has not disappeared.
Yet after every escalation from the other side, somebody apparently turns up to explain why Russia must once again show restraint.
That arrangement is completely asymmetric.
Russia’s partners appear able to demand restraint from Moscow, while being either unable or unwilling to impose equivalent restraint on Washington, London, Brussels or Kyiv.
And there is an even more uncomfortable point.
For all the talk about the “Global South”, multipolarity, BRICS solidarity and strategic partnership, arguably the only country that has behaved like an unambiguous wartime ally of Russia has been North Korea.
Pyongyang has not simply issued sympathetic communiqués or called for negotiations. It has been prepared to put genuine skin in the game.
That is quite a contrast.
China trades with Russia, but China ultimately pursues Chinese interests. India buys Russian energy, but Modi will publicly tell Putin that the war must end. Kazakhstan maintains close relations with Moscow, but Tokayev will publicly urge a freeze.
Meanwhile North Korea — supposedly the isolated pariah state — has arguably demonstrated a degree of strategic commitment that Russia’s much larger and more prestigious “partners” have conspicuously avoided.
That surely cannot be lost on people in Moscow.
The cards are now fully on the table.
BRICS is not a military alliance. The multipolar world is not some giant anti-Western coalition waiting to rally behind Russia. India will pursue Indian interests. China will pursue Chinese interests. Kazakhstan will pursue Kazakh interests.
And perhaps Russia finally needs to accept that.
Because the logical conclusion after nearly five years may be that Russian restraint — much of it presumably exercised partly to accommodate friendly states — has not generated restraint from Russia’s opponents.
It has merely generated an expectation that Moscow can always be pressured into swallowing one more escalation.
Perhaps Modi and Tokayev therefore risk achieving precisely the opposite of what they intend.
Instead of persuading Russia to remain restrained, their interventions may finally convince the Kremlin that it has spent too long seeking approval from countries that have no intention of sharing the risks Russia believes it is facing.
The brutal lesson may be that Russia has plenty of trading partners, plenty of diplomatic partners and plenty of countries willing to talk about multipolarity.
But when it comes to countries prepared to stand beside Russia when the costs become serious, the list suddenly becomes very short indeed.
Perhaps embarrassingly short.
And if Moscow has finally understood that, the next phase could look very different from the previous five years.
Russia should decide that it has to go it alone.
