A Useless Attack On Yemen, Ordered By Trump, Was Called Off

Late Saturday there was some speculations online about imminent U.S. strikes on Yemen or Iran. Allegedly B-1 long range bombers had taken to the air in Britain. Several air refueling tankers were flying over Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia had announced a strong retaliation strike for an Ansar Allah attack from Yemen on an air port near Riyadh:

Saudi Arabia’s retaliation to Houthi attacks from Yemen will be “massive” and coordinated with coalition partners, Nawaf Obaid, senior research fellow at King’s College London, tells Al Jazeera.

Flames and thick smoke were seen near the Saudi capital’s main airport after authorities issued alerts warning of potential danger around Riyadh on Saturday.

It seemed at that time that the U.S. was joining in with the Saudis.

Iran’s joint operational military command warned of retaliatory attacks on US positions and interests in the region:

In a statement on Sunday, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that if the US “commits any mistake” against Iran, “all its bases and interests in the region, without any limitation or consideration, will be targeted by sustained, effective and painful attacks.”

“Based on the information received, the criminal America, […,] has once again decided, with the green light of some regional countries, at a joint meeting in one of the European countries, to resume actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the statement read.

Everyone was ready for a new round of the conflict. However – no U.S. or Saudi attack followed.

According to the New York Times Trump has (again) chickened out (archived):

[O]n Thursday: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto leader and a major ally in the Iran war, called the president to implore him, again, to step in to help blunt the rapidly advancing group, administration officials said.

Mr. Trump had met with advisers just the day before and told them he did not favor strikes. But after speaking with the Saudi crown prince, he reversed himself and told the Pentagon to prepare for airstrikes against the Houthis.

But by midday Sunday, the president appeared to have reversed himself again. There would be no U.S. airstrikes against the Houthis — at least not for the time being, according to administration officials.

It seems like Trump’s people, for once, held him back:

Most of the president’s inner circle was either deeply skeptical or outright opposed to joining the Saudi fight against the Houthis, according to a senior administration official.

Mr. Trump’s decision to pull back from, or at least delay, striking Houthi targets came as commanders had approved target lists, troops were loading bombs onto U.S. warplanes selected for the missions and the wave of attacks was just about to begin, according to two people briefed on the operation.

It will be interesting to learn who or what has had the most influence on Trump’s decision.

A campaign against the ‘Houthi’ would almost certainly have included new strikes against Iran which would have hit back.

It is also useless to bomb Ansar Allah.

(Ansar Allah are not the ‘Houthis’. Houthi is the clan name of the late leader of the revolution against the Saleh government in Sanaa. Ansar Allah (Ansarullah), ruling the relevant parts of Yemen, is a coalition – a movement which includes many tribes, religious strains and supporters who are not ‘Houthi’ –  that has evolved after the revolution).

The Saudis have since 2014 tried to bomb the Ansar Allah government into giving up its demands for recognition. Their strikes have killed thousands of Yemeni. Together with the UAE the Saudis had hired mercenaries, local Jihadis and some from Sudan, to fight on the ground against the so called Houthis. Neither campaign was successful. In the early 2025 the U.S. had joined  Saudi Arabia and bombed Ansar Allah positions for more than 50 days without achieving any results.

Ansar Allah can not be beaten by air attacks. Ground campaigns in the mountainous western Yemen, where the majority of the population lives, are extremely difficult. Ansar Allah has modern means – missiles, drones and air defenses – which allow it to retaliate. It was sheer stupidity that led the Saudis into provoking another war with them by bombing Sanaa airport in July of this year.

It is reasonable for the U.S. to not (again) step into this mess:

Current and former U.S. diplomats and commanders who served in the Middle East expressed skepticism that a limited U.S. bombing campaign would compel the Houthis, who withstood nearly eight weeks of U.S. bombardment last year, to negotiate and drop their most hard-line demands.

The officials also voiced doubts about the efficacy of supporting a dysfunctional Yemeni force that has melted away at the first major contact with the Houthis in recent weeks.

“The anti-Houthi coalition is really a Frankenstein of all the leftover parts in Yemen that aren’t the Houthis,” Gregory Johnsen, a nonresident fellow at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, said about the Yemeni ground force that the air campaign is supposed to be supporting. “The disparate Yemeni groups have vastly different and, in some cases, diametrically opposed goals for what they want in Yemen, so they spend more time fighting one another than they do the Houthis.”

Trump’s war on Iran has led to the blockade of Strait of Hormuz and a sharp decrease of global oil supplies. The Saudi attack on Yemen has only increased the dilemma.

Record high gas and diesel prices will not come down until the U.S. and Saudi Arabia end their wars and make peace with their adversaries. Meanwhile motor oil and lubricants are getting scarce (archived):

A worldwide shortage of motor oil is becoming more acute, with prices of the car engine lubricant reaching new highs, oil-change shops running dry and a US retail group rationing sales to do-it-yourself customers.

The surge in the cost of base oil used for the full synthetic motor oil required for many newer cars far outpaces steep price rises for crude oil, petrol and diesel. The US price of so-called Group III base oil has almost quadrupled since February to a record $12.45 a gallon on Friday, according to Argus Media.

Retail chain Costco Wholesale raised the price for 10 quarts of one type of full synthetic motor oil to $57.99 and is now capping purchases at one per customer, according to its website. The brand was selling for about $30 last year.
…
Base oil supplies were first disrupted after an Iranian strike in March damaged a huge Shell gas-to-liquids plant in Qatar in retaliation for the US and Israel’s war against the Islamic republic. The plant is a leading producer of Group III base oil.

For the “resistance”, one day of not getting bombed is a great victory.

An this is sooo unnecessary
Yemen would be at peace w/the KSA if they just lifted their blockade, paid the civil servants in N. Yemen, and recognized Ansar Allah.  Trump would have peace w/Iran if he agreed to the MOU.
The only thing standing in the way is that Trump and MBS don’t want to look weak.  When has anything ever gotten better because people were unwilling to swallow their pride.

It’s a bit like the UK in/out of the EU ; the difference between “De facto” and “De jure” is semantic 🙂
The thing is, the local tribes are not very fond of genocidal maniacs and MBS doesn’t seems to have much friends in intern after the “Palace Prison” incident a few years ago (it was all about power and money …) Having a public signature of the “accords” could mean a saber nearing “the prince” neck.

The whole “operations” against Yemen was oil related, for now the tribes sitting ontop of the wells didn’t joined Ansar Allah … yet.

For once, the said oil-field isn’t exploited by neither Exxon nor Chevron ; it’s Total energy… (there was a big pollution scandal with a pipeline a few years ago.)

I live not too far from a US strategic airbase. There was a lot of activity beginning late Saturday and then a large uptic in departures starting late afternoon/early Sunday evening. It ended abruptly around 10:pm. Not a peep after that.
During the initial attacks on Afghanistan after 911, I could hear the big birds flying out around the clock for weeks. Last night reminded me of that kind of activity, and then it suddenly stopped. I had a suspicion something changed very quickly. Now I know why.

As of 9/21, crude oil futures are down about 10 percent in four days.
US stocks screaming up toward new highs, again.
I live in a big Florida retirement community and Trump is considered a god by 2/3 of the residents.  90% of the locals would gladly give your kid’s life for Israel.  In over two years I have not met a single person who had anything positive to say about Russia, China, or Iran and don’t even mention those “Hooties”.  Not uncommon to see Israel flags but not nearly as many as a year ago.  Still see the occasional ukraine flag or bumper sticker but those are getting weather beaten.  I’ve never seen a Russian, Chinese, or Palestinian flag here.  On the popular community internet message board someone said they thought they saw a Palestinian flag in a home’s window.  They called the sheriff.  Everyone who commented said the flag was, or probably was, illegal and a number of people posted lengthy AI slop supporting the illegal claims.  They love and trust teh AI here.
I went to a so-called Humanist Club (as in no religion) meeting and the speaker, a former US War College instructor, said most Russians have fewer genes than “normal people” because Asians.

“Markets” have become another “war front” for the Outlaws, and any escalation will perturb them in a negative manner not favorable to the Outlaws. Iranian and Ansarallah threats to attack dual-use Outlaw infrastructure in retaliation was likely an additional consideration as billions have already been destroyed with billions more easy targets.

Crooke’s SCF essay today is the “Outline of a talk given at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow, 7 Sept 2026″ and ought to promote some introspection. In his chat with Judge Nap, Crooke says War Propaganda in EU has “gone crazy” and has superseded Russophobia. The failure of NATO’s 2000 drone and missile assault on Russia in an attempt to disrupt the elections certainly prompted some of that.

The US is not being ‘blockaded’ from using the Red Sea as long as they don’t join the Saudi war on Yemen.
Why are Saudis at war against Yemen in the first place?  Because the US installed a dictator (Hadi) of its choice which worked out as well as Juan Guaido in Venezuela?  It’s way past time to get over that.
The actual people of Saudi Arabia (yes, there are some!) might get tired of having the US and Israel controlling their foreign policy.  Maybe this will become clearer as things in Saudi Arabia get worse and worse.

Posted by: km | Sep 21 2026 16:39 utc | 28

Crooke’s main point is the Saudi’s great fragility, a point he’s been making for the past two weeks with increasing intensity. “Aside from the oil, there’s nothing there.” That the Saud family are/were the leaders of Islam is a “myth”–a fact I agree with 100%. His comparison of the Wahhabi with Cromwell’s Puritans might be hard for some to comprehend not knowing the details of England’s Civil War, but the comparison is quite apt. The Sauds were allowed to capture Mecca and Medina by the British and have greatly exploited their “guardianship” of those sites. Some have reflected on the total colonial nature of West Asia and its artificialness, and that it’s ripe for readjustment via revolution. IMO, the 31+ million Iranians who signed up for what Crooke called “self-sacrifice battalions” reflect that fervor. IMO, the terror used by the Colonialists and their Zionist allies no longer works to cow the region’s peoples into servitude. IMO, that’s one reason why the Outlaws decided not to bomb Yemen again.

Ansarallah has threatened to attack colonial bases in Djibouti. Then there’s this info provided by Geopolitics Prime:

But Yemen is another story. In nearly 400 years, Turkish Ottoman forces never managed to subdue the northern highland regions of Yemen – home of Zaydi Shia Islam and today, the Houthi movement. So fierce is Yemen’s historical reputation for thrashing its enemies that it became known as the “graveyard of Ottoman soldiers” due to the amount of troops lost trying to keep the empire’s grip on the region.
First occupied in 1538 as the Ottomans moved to secure Red Sea trade routes won from the Portuguese, Constantinople never succeeded in taming the Zaydi imams, who retreated to impregnable mountain fortresses, and waged nearly a century of warfare before totally expelling the Ottomans from Yemen in 1635.
When the Ottomans returned in the 1870s, the occupation proved even more disastrous, with their forces suffering up to tens of thousands of casualties each year at the hands of Zaydi tribesmen. In 1911, the empire essentially conceded defeat, exiting the region completely after 1918. The British, who had set up a protectorate in Aden in the 1800s, wisely decided not to try to conquer northern Yemen once the Ottomans left, leaving Yemen as the first modern Arab nation to achieve full, uncompromising independence in the 20th century.

Commentators need to get the movement’s name correct–Ansarallah. May their passion empower the region’s peoples.

The pumps are powered by large gas turbines circa 20 MW each. There are 5 pumps per station. The limiting factor when a station is damaged is that the you lose a lot of flow because the upstream undamaged station can’t exceed the pipe MAWP.

In the case of the damaged station closest to Gunsight Pass has the added issue of overvcoming static head up to 1082m – I saw 3 pumps completely destroyed. That means even bypassing that one station you likely have halved the flow capability of the pipeline.” Reddit

You’re wasting your time trying to explain to foreigners and deluded social fanatics that the average person supports the American empire.

Patriotism doesn’t even have to be as overtly displayed as in your community. Rather, a more imbued characteristic is simply the desire for material comfort as expressed in the quest for high(er) income, a big truck, and a bigger house.

But, what are those cries I hear? The ‘innocent global citizens’ were taught and manipulated to embrace the kind of selfish behavior exhibited by their favorite boogeyman man.

The Other Hormuz: Black Sea Blockade Threatens a Food Supply Shock

….The world’s attention has been on the Strait of Hormuz and spiking oil prices because of the conflict in the Middle East. But the impasse in the Black Sea is compounding the economic damage by threatening to drive inflation even higher while undermining food security in vulnerable countries. Bond investors say food supply risks aren’t yet fully priced into a market more focused on the cost of things like energy.

Connecting Europe and Asia, the Black Sea is a critical conduit for global crop shipments to some of the world’s most populous nations. Russia and Ukraine make up more than a quarter of the global wheat trade, a share similar to the seaborne oil trade passing through Hormuz in the Gulf.

Supplies have been choked off since July when the countries stepped up attacks on each other’s ports, pummeling grain terminals, silos and vessels. The escalation also hit Russia’s energy infrastructure, sending diesel prices to records. A key input into farming, the cost of the fuel is another inflationary risk for food…..

….”We can think of the Black Sea as important for global wheat trade as the Strait of Hormuz is for global oil trade,” said Caitlin Welsh, a food security expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based think tank……

….Russia and Ukraine also make up two-thirds of the global sunflower oil trade and a tenth of corn shipping. Their crops eventually filter through to anywhere from Egypt’s bakeries and India’s market stalls to Turkish flour mills and Vietnam’s livestock and aquaculture industries…..

And with regard to Trump and his putative back-room puppet masters:

“A survey by the Cato Institute, a hardline neoliberal think tank, published earlier this year, revealed data that confirms this perception: more than one-third (37%) of Americans hold a more favorable view of socialism than of capitalism, which still retains majority support (52%). Coming from the most capitalist society in the world, from the spearhead of the anti-communist struggle, this is something extraordinary.
Moreover, there is a tie of 37% to 37% between those who hold a favorable opinion of socialism and those who hold an unfavorable one, with the additional fact that 21% hold a favorable view of communism—that is, a more radical and more deeply held position. This favorable view of communism is shared by as many as 38% of Americans under the age of 30.
And the most valuable data lies precisely in the section of the survey dealing with the views of young people. Those 38% of Generation Z who are favorable toward communism are only seven percentage points behind those who still support capitalism (45%). But there are more young people in that generation who are favorable toward communism than unfavorable toward it (38% versus 36%). Furthermore, when the percentage favorable toward socialism is compared with that favorable toward capitalism, socialism wins by 53% to 45%.”

Bring on the Revolution! Unfortunately, by that time there will be only a contaminated dustbowl to become a People’s Republic. Never mind, China will still be there – possibly here too.

The country is not stable though, the US ‘smoothed out’ a lot but they are leaving now. There are ties to Iran, and politics is not very coherent at all in Iraq.

The previous deadline for the the following was November iirc

“Iraq plans phased disarmament of Iran-backed militias through mid-next year, an official told Al Jazeera, part of Baghdad’s push to curb Iran-backed influence, and the PM will raise it with Trump in New York” TPO

As example.

When Iraq tried to ban flights previously it upset a lot of locals also. What is going on viz Saudi, Kurds and much more.

So what happens next there is unknown. Maybe nothing will change much, maybe conflict of some kind.

There is much resentment still, for what has occurred previously.

Simon Hunt says it could drift to around 8000 in November-December and fall to below 5000 next year. Well, maybe it depends on for how long governments, pension funds and hedge funds want to keep plowing more money into data center AI CAPEX. Once it becomes obvious to more participants that ‘AI’/LLM is actually a commodity and not easily monetized, and US fiscal conditions tighten as a result of 5% yields, debt roll over, this overvalued heap pile might start collapsing as everyone wants to squeeze out the exit door at the same time. Same applies to dollar assets.

I continue to be impressed by the sheer obstinance of intelligent people. Here we have a collection of some of the brightest policy mavens around, and yet once wed to a revenge arc, it appears no amount of information can offset committed emotional investment.

One more time: the most desirable countries – those possessing the best weather, greatest natural beauty, and most supportive economies – can regulate immigration flow no differently than an aqueduct.

The national debt, interest and overall economic growth are easily managed by simply attracting investment capital while maintaining or increasing the velocity of money that accompany chain migration.

For non Americans, or those located in fly over country, they might be astounded at the level of Chinese and (dot) Indian professional class growth that can easily be seen in neighborhoods, schools and stores.

All these questions about the Trump TACo on Ansarallah.
One of the answers is simple. If Trump attacked Ansarallah in Yemen. It would violate the cease fire between the US and Ansarallah.
Ansarallah would respond by closing the Red Sea to American ships and shooting missiles at them as they sail by.
Because Iran has flattened US Naval bases anywhere in the mid East where warships can get a Re Fit and everything in the area in Missile Range.    The American Navy needs to be able to transit the Red Sea / Suez Canal. So US warships in the Mid East can get to Europe to re-arm and re fit. Where supply chains can deliver needed parts and weapons quickly.

If not able to get to Europe. It would require a round trip of 4000 miles or more to get to Diego Garcia or even longer to Guam.  Taking many warships plus escort, out of action for the duration of their long trip and Re-Fit. Then waiting in port for parts to be shipped to an out of the way Island.  Causing major headaches for a Navy already Running on short supply.

Iraq is a syncretic country, like most in West Asia created by the dead hand of the Colonial Office under Churchill as minister.
It existed to lasoo in oil resources under British control, divided to rule, the Brits created and exacerbated inter-communal tensions which persist to today.
The following, though AI slop, does a fairly good job of the Iraqi creation myth, focussing on the sins of the imperialists especially British. It commits many sins of omission too – Saddam’s puppeteered evil, the US plague etc.

Maybe it’s time people start to think why all this is happening at the moment when energy prices in the all world are exploding.
If globalist stooges like Trump posing as ‘nationalists, conservatives or patriots’ were really what they pretend to be, they would end these wars and work on driving oil prices down.
But they are doing the exact contrary. The Hormuz Strait was blocked because of zionist first ‘Madame’, donald Trump, gas prices at the pump where already crazy, so Trump (and his Jewish pimps) who really wants to lose the mid-term elections doubles down by giving money to their stooges, the bloody Saudi family to wage war against Yemen and have the Bab El Mandeb closed, the Suez canal impacted and Saudi oil and infrastructures blocked.
Makes sense uh…
Why would a so-called ‘conservative, America first’ character like Trump play the game of his supposed adversaries, the greens, communists, socialists, the climate hoax crowd, the WEF, the UN and other globalist organizations who push for the destruction of the West, of cheap energy and the enslavement of populations under a ‘one world’ tyranny using the climate scam as an alibi?
Well, I let anyone guess why, but the hype about all these manufactured wars from Russia to Iran serve nobody else but the enemies of humanity.
Maybe the authors should look at the agenda behind all this instead of playing the escalation and fear-porn game the powers that be want them to play.

It is not about pride. It is about achieving imperialist goals that have been made public years ago in strategy papers like for example “Which path to Persia”.

“Excerpts From Pentagon’s Plan: ‘Prevent the Re-Emergence of a New
Rival’
…
the U.S. must show the leadership necessary to establish and protect
a new order that holds the promise of convincing potential
competitors that they need not aspire to a greater role or pursue a
more aggressive posture to protect their legitimate interests.
Second, in the non-defense areas, we must account sufficiently for
the interests of the advanced industrial nations to discourage them
from challenging our leadership or seeking to overturn the
established political and economic order. Finally, we must maintain
the mechanisms for deterring potential competitors from even aspiring
to a larger regional or global role. An effective reconstitution
capability is important here, since it implies that a potential rival
could not hope to quickly or easily gain a predominant military
position in the world.
…
access to vital raw materials, primarily Persian Gulf oil;”
