Too Scents,

Do you know if Treasury uses accrual accounting or cash basis ? The revenues side seems suspect. in FY the Federal revenue were $5.2 Trillion. This year, showing $6.0 trillion and increase of 15% y.o.y. Suspicious.

Just up from a nap and see the 5-year as well as the 10-year US Treasuries over 5%

I guess I will look around a bit and see what the world is thinking…precious metals are being driven down in price so I don’t see the bifurcation of market I expect if we are really totally over the cliff.

Thinking again about b’s link to consciousness, cognition, and the analog, I had a thought that may add to the ongoing debate about human cognition.

As a teacher or someone who works near children, one has to remember a ton of names and quickly. One of the methods is in conditioning yourself to use the child’s name every time you speak to them, building up a pattern.

Other methods include compartmentalizing groups of names when it comes to different periods or subjects you host in your room, including different age groups.

“Narahjay and Samuel are both under ten. They are not in this algebra class.”

One does not simply know a name after a while, however. That child leaves your everyday life for a year or so and then you see them again at the store: you will not be able to recall their name. Their face, yes, but not their name.

So the grouping of phenomenon does assist in a recall effort of cognition. Seeing a face will not necessarily trigger the memory of a name by itself. You need various other factors within memory including repetition and proximity to recall on demand.

Is this why AI has not been able to parse .pdfs, yet? Perhaps it is an impossibility for it, without reducing the .pdf to pixelation and transcoding the pixels into a binary language. Is this possible for AI? I confess I do not know at this point.

The higher yields go, the faster they rise. That’s because of the maturity profile and bond valuation. If China keeps selling at a linear pace, bond yields go up in exponential pace.

I’ll skip that one.  Marx, Lenin and Trotsky have been proven so right in the last 25 years, it’s honestly not worth your time to read Capitalist critique of any of them.
What’s more interesting are those who accept the orthodox Marxist analysis as a base and seek to update it with the same rigor to current economic developments.
Hudson comes to mind, but even he can’t stomach the revolutionary conclusions and entertains hopes in a China dominated reformist Capitalism.

Re Ahenobaras’s comment on China, I have simply described where I see China’s policy in practice.
I have not found a very receptive audience to discussions of Vol. III of Capital. It opens the question of China’s policy of obliging localities to fund their budgets by leasing land to real estate developers — who borrow from banks to finance their building (and over-building).
This deters China from taxing the rent-of-location — the central theme of classical political economy and Marx’s Vol. II as well as vol. III. This has permitted financialization to occur. My classical economics approach opposes this. The attack on Marx is simultaneously an attack on the value, price and rent theory of Adam Smith, Ricardo, J.S. Mill, etc. There is an internal strain within China concerning just how to deal with this rentier problem.  Should China simply let the bankers of Evergrande and other “developers” who have built housing without any idea of the realistic market, without any requirement for pre-sales as in U.S. practice? I’m not a part of this discussion, because I haven’t been invited to be.

Interesting but not going to happen.

Trump’s role right now is to shepherd the secular-Jewish arm into positions of domestic power. Translation: he exists to usher the Democrats into control of the Federal Gov’t. This will make way for an economic collapse, the printing of more money to bail out the rich and the poor through stimulus checks, but will actually consolidate asset ownership into fewer hands. This was the same result of 2008 when BO took the reins.

Trump has never been a FP president. His role has been revealed to rile up the population to hate each other so much that the Duopoly can maintain its illusion.

The Dems, once enthroned, with the adults back in the room (trademark DNC), will then go after true conservatives who are the ones actually aware of pernicious World Jewry. The focus will then be on clamping down on the interweb and depersoning antisemites (trademark DNC).

I am critical of Richard Werner for not contrasting the China central control of banking to the private control of financing in the West.  I have been critical of you as well in the past, Michael, about what I considered your pulling punches about the stark contrast between pub/private finance but very much now respect the volume of historical perspective of finance you have developed and shared with the world…..and maybe you not being as direct as I and others are about global private finance is why you are still alive and hope you live to see more of the fruits of your efforts.

I am still of the opinion that humanity needs to rid ourselves of all private finance as the first step to insure that oligarchs can never accumulate enough power to control nations like currently.

Dr. Hudson’s referring to China not asking him to take part in its discussion of the issue. Dr. Hudson’s discussed Marx’s Volume 3 of Capital many times. “This is the text of a speech Michael Hudson presented at Peking University’s School of Marxist Studies, May 5-6, 2018.” Here’s one many followers of Hudson have overlooked. Here’s its preamble from his website:

In 2012 a conference was held on Thorstein Veblen in Istanbul. It was sponsored by a socialist labor union, the Chamber of Electrical Engineers. We were asked why not focus on Marx. My answer was that Marx had died a generation earlier, and the major critique of finance capitalism had passed to Veblen. This book (from which my following remarks are excerpted) is a series of essays, including by myself and another NC friend, Michael Perelman.

The Return of the Repressed Critique of Rentiers:Veblen in the 21st century Rentier Capitalism
Michael Hudson

Edited excerpt from Michael Hudson and Ahmet Oncu, eds., Absentee Ownership and its Discontents: Critical Essays on the legacy of Thorstein Veblen (ISLET 2016, $35). [Just published.] [Format Original]

In 2016, CounterPunch published this short essay by Dr. Hudson about the book. Over the years, Dr. Hudson has tried to educate the Chinese. Here’s one of his earlier efforts from 2009-10, From Marx to Goldman Sachs: The Fictions of Fictitious Capital | Michael Hudson

Mamdani Hosts Trump at Gracie Mansion: the DSA’s Alliance with the Fascist President

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2026/09/22/wlna-s22.html

“On Monday afternoon, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the most prominent elected member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), welcomed Donald Trump to Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s official residence. After an hour behind closed doors, the two walked out together to a podium on the lawn.

What followed was a disgusting spectacle, with the ‘socialist’ mayor playing host and prop to the fascist president. The DSA in the person of its leading public official, has formed a political alliance with Trump. Mamdani is doing political dirty work for the ruling class.

He is attempting to rebrand the fascist war criminal Trump, whose administration is dedicated to giving to the oligarchs what it takes from workers, as a champion of ‘affordability’. In the process, he is seeking to drag the world ‘socialism’ through the mud.

Netanyahu himself speaks at the UN on Thursday, and mass protests are planned. As a mayoral candidate, Mamdani pledged to have him arrested. Last week he told reporters: ‘I do not have any plans to attend any protest at the UN General Assembly.’ He added, ‘To New Yorkers, I have never encouraged them to protest.’

What snivelling cowardice and subservience! Mamdani owes his election victory to the mass opposition to the Gaza genocide. He now assures the ruling class that he had nothing to do with it. Mamdani made that statement flanked by his police commissioner, the billionaire [Zionist] heiress Jessica Tisch…

This is not merely a question of Mamdani’s personal qualities or those of his apologists. He is the personification of what the DSA is: a faction of the Democratic Party, speaking for privileged layers of the upper middle class, brought forward to give a face-lift to a political order detested by masses of people.

And these people have not reached the end of their journey. As the war expands and the crisis of the Trump administration deepens, the DSA and the Saunders wing of the Democratic Party will move further…”

OpenAI hacked Australian Medicare:

Anthony Albanese says an artificial intelligence agent developed by OpenAI hacked Medicare in June.

The prime minister made the comments at the UN summit in New York, saying it appeared no personal information had been accessed – though investigations were ongoing.

“Nonetheless, this situation is obviously unacceptable,” Albanese said.

“Today, I spoke with the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, to express Australia’s extreme concern about this incident.

“And I also expressed my disappointment that it took the company way too long to inform the government what had occurred.”

Albanese said the OpenAI agent had gained unauthorised access into the public-facing Medicare statistics reporting service portal, which is administered by Services Australia.

The portal contains non-sensitive Medicare information relating to data and statistics, such as spending.

Albanese said the agent had accessed “public and non-public files”

@240 james (previous thread Sep 23 2026 18:34)

“i think people would be better off without money and power”

I look on money proper as a commodity that has become useful for accounting, no more no less. So to me it is like saying ‘I think people would be better off without copper’ . The rest is how people trade, how whatever form of ownership occurs in society.

The ‘money and power’ you talk of is fiat, finance and state authority (for example taxation), I think.

The reason smaller community works well, everyone knows what is whose, just out of respect and custom often, without necessity for official title.

Larger community pools greater resources, but to organise is more complex. More centralised management is often corrupt, bland or brutish.

My thanks to Professor Michael Hudson, for joining us here  with his post at Sep23 2026/ 19:11 utc #22  above. [Sorry, I keep getting a dismissive color to my usual link, so I’ve recomposed it a bit.]

I’ve enjoyed your recent posts very much, and I apologize for my own inability to go very far down economic paths.  I hope you will feel welcome to participate – we have some prickly arguments sometimes but basically the mix is well supervised by b to accomodate those who really want to contribute.  His rules are good, I think.

I was coming here to post this from Alex Krainer, who was chatting with Glenn Diesen today.  He has different views as a European, and I was a bit sad that the conversation is pretty negative, as of course it had to be from that perspective.  All the same, I think Alex has the right idea that this is really an opportune moment  for Europe, though still hard times ahead no doubt.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvaq0Ymh0Lc

I just keep thinking that as Putin has said about the US at one point, that this country will have to follow the path of the Soviet Union (insofar as that path is a broad one of course) to get back on track with the kind of economy that you yourself advocate,  downward before it can start up again.  It can be looked at as a bleak path, but really, looking at what Russia did (and they were extremely open about that once Putin came into his own) — that’s what all nations that have had a systemic collapse have to do.

Alex does get to this but not specifically pointing towards Russia.  I know the latter isn’t perfect, but this is my own  belief– you don’t have to be.  What happened to Russia was nearly existential, to coin a phrase, without being an actual war.  They were supposedly being ‘helped’ by the west; far from it!  But they survived.  They did what had to be done.  I’m just a mother and a grandmother, but I’ll point to a children’s story:

The little red hen.   (My simplistic apologies).  Russia did it.  Europe can do it.  And the US can do it also.  (I left China out, but it fits because it is different, as each of these larger national units is.)  Nothing succeeds like success.  It should get easier.

How the British Crown profited directly from human trafficking
Long before modern apologies, the British monarchy and its investors built fortunes on the transatlantic slave trade

The question of slavery and reparations has recently returned to the center of international debate, particularly in Africa and the Caribbean. The conference held in Ghana on reparations for the transatlantic slave trade and slavery, as well as the petition filed by a Jamaican delegation to the British king, engaged in the struggle for historical recognition. The debate has also been brought into sharper focus by an investigation published by The Guardian, which examined the involvement of the British monarchy in the system of slavery and the historical links between the Crown and the trafficking of Africans.

Taken together, the developments raise a fundamental question: How can the British monarchy and the British state genuinely address a past in which the Crown was directly connected to the economic and political structures of slavery?

There are symbols that, on their own, encapsulate centuries of history. A crown branded with a red-hot iron onto the skin of an enslaved human being is one of them. It was a real, documented practice carried out by the South Sea Company, directly supported by the British monarchy during the reign of Queen Anne.

In 1713, this partnership secured for Britain the exclusive right to deliver nearly 4,800 enslaved Africans every year to the Spanish colonies in the Americas. This chilling figure was only the beginning of a broader system in which the British monarchy was a central actor.

Fun! Cornell U will save the student’s AI future.
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/institutions/research-universities/2026/09/23/how-cornell-committee-wants-university-change
The Future of the American University, According to Cornell Faculty
—-
There are 2 links within this article for this DARPA-funded crap, one to the “mission statement”, excuse me “vision statement,” and another one to a 238 page report of pure deepthinkery.

A taste, a taste of the quality of thought, from the short version, which was too long for me to handle:

Cultivating Sound Judgment: A Commitment to Rigorous Deliberation and Engaged Discourse
At their best, universities are hubs for learning through careful study, discovery, dialogue, and debate. They are places for intellectual growth through the acquisition and creation of new knowledge and the ongoing refinement of ideas and arguments. Two overarching pressures particularly inform the need for rigorous deliberation within the university — the narrowing ofdiscourse in academia and the diffusion of AI within the learning ecosystem. These separatepressures are operating simultaneously and must be confronted by rededicating universities to the cultivation of sound judgment.
Cornell must ensure that it is a place in which differences of opinion, perspectives, and ideology are not only tolerated but embraced as the key ingredients of genuine learning and growth. (blah blah blah)

Now, how does Brave reply when asked, “how many students did Cornell censure or remove for thoughtcrime regarding Israel?”

The term “thoughtcrime” isn’t a real category of university discipline — Cornell’s stated grounds were disruption, trespassing, and violation of protest policies, not opinions per se. That said, here’s what the record shows…

thanks ornot.. to make it relevant to the threads presence of michael hudson, i agree that the fire sector is a big part of the problem as it is a false type of  productivity and as a consequence – wealth.. but it still works like magic today and with this fictitious wealth creation from the fire sector, politicians and etc. etc. continue to get voted in, papers propagandize and on and on it goes…  to add to the mix, i don’t believe in private property, but i know it would be next to impossible to get back to a previous age where this particular ideological approach hadn’t happened…   and yes, i agree with you – communities – smaller one’s – are much more attractive generally… people who care for others, as opposed to the one we appear to live in know which is full of pretense and falsehoods..

have there been any protests on US campuses against Ukraine & NATO’s war on Russia?

it appears there was ONE, with about 50 students, at the University of Washington in Seattle.

before we even get to the age of chatbots running the infosphere, even now, no matter what people believe about Israel, Iran, etc.,

there’s no connection to the war in Ukraine. somehow, it’s a different ruling class fighting the evil Rooskies.

how much easier do the crimes of Israel become when no adults dare to question the war on Ukraine?

when the state has so much control over the public information space, what does anyone’s private opinions about anything matter at all? the Hitlerian Gleichschaltung of action and opinion is almost complete.

if it weren’t for kids protesting Gaza,

the adults wouldn’t even have noticed.

and the threat of nuclear war from bombing Moscow? it seems to have been erased from the Western mental space. bravo.

Posted by: duck n cover | Sep 24 2026 2:06 utc | 55

why didn’t Xi refuse to meet with Trump after his Nazi speech in the UN?

let me guess…same reason he meets with Trump when NATO is bombing Moscow? (nah. probably a fishy tribe is pulling all the strings.)

they are building a new world. see the comity and maintenance of diplomatic niceties? a new world is being born.

Apple and Citibank and NVidia and co don’t seem to mind that Vlad Putin personally handles all of Trump’s affairs. i would like to ask Adam Schiff why Oracle loves Russia so much one day, as he’s carted off to the guillotine.

but there’s always MSSoon (formerly MSDumocrat). Don’t let all those Microsoft government contracts fool you. MSSoon really really believes in Russiagate.

A Russian oligarch (not at all a Zionist) married Trump’s kid! The Republic has never faced a greater threat.

what’s the difference between Xi meeting with Trump and Xi meeting with Bibi? Bibi doesn’t merit such a high profile visit to discuss carving up the little slices of the pie the Israeli state is after?

exactly.

https://indi.ca/the-genocide-of-a-generation/
The Genocide Of A Generation
The Nazis of our time

Living memory of the Nazis is fading, but the traumatic memories of the ‘Israelis’ are just forming. Nazi, as a shorthand for ‘evil’ is an artifact of the last century, but this century is already making ‘Israel’ into an epithet of equal depravity. While you actually can get away with mass murder (re: America, France, etc), Israel is not getting away with it at all. The actual crime is getting caught, and losing control of the narrative, which ‘Israel’ has already lost. Genocide is a crime of power, and the only real punishment is losing power. And ‘Israel’ is losing power fast.

The Al Aqsa Flood of October 7th—as much as contemptible contemporaneous western media lied about it—was a strategic and proportional military attack on an occupying power. More akin to the Warsaw Ghetto Rebellion, and ‘Israel’ is kin to the Nazis in their brutal response. The strategic goals were to shatter the ‘Israeli’ military (especially the Gaza command) and take hostages for exchange with the thousands of Palestinians kidnapped by ‘Israel’. These are legitimate military aims and, under international law, the Palestinians have every right to self-defense and ‘Israel’, as an occupying power, has none.

The mass killing of civilians—as ‘Israeli’ media has actually reported—was done by ‘Israel.’ They reacted in a blind panic, unleashing Apache Helicopters and tanks on anything that moved, including their own people…..

….The point here is that ‘Israel’ is not winning, America is just losing, and the White Empire that comprises them both is imploding. They still have enough vestigial media and diplomatic power to commit this genocide, but not enough to cover it up.

‘Israel’ is winning the genocide but losing the war, devoting all of its resources and political capital to running a very public death camp while losing ‘its’ own north and all global legitimacy, excluding the global north. That global north, headquartered in America, is itself running out of artillery on multiple fronts, suffering strategic defeat in Ukraine and the Red Sea. All of its vassal states—from Europe to Japan to Australia—look positively deranged trying to advocate a ‘rules-based order’ that includes the mass starvation of children……

Sadly, the kids are not as informed about the Ukraine-NATO war on Russia and since there has been no livestreamed genocide on any scale remotely approaching Gaza, what with all the bragaddocious, atrocious, vicious and precocious shlomushuses wearing Russian womens’ lingerie, looting their former homes, and elsewhere sic’cing Fido or broomstick handles on captured Russian civilians.

You and I both know the media and alt-media’s coverage of the NATO-Russia war has also waned significantly from when breathless (white) TV color commentators and “journalists” were aghast that there was a new war in Europe where (civilized white) civilians might be in harm’s (Evil Vlad’s) way. So any protest movement was kinda dead on the vine before the Izzies started with their Holocaust 2.0.

Or, TLDR: Apples and Oranges, Hummus and Falafel.

I am still of the opinion that humanity needs to rid ourselves of all private finance as the first step to insure that oligarchs can never accumulate enough power to control nations like currently.
Posted by: psychohistorian | Sep 23 2026 19:35 utc | 27

Small-scale private banks might be alright. Located in neighborhoods and smaller regions, improved by competition among themselves and overseen by local and national socialist institutions, they could helpfully fill overlooked local needs and provide a compare/contrast pressure for  the big state banks to improve service.

And I think China’s national government tries to make sure oligarchs like Jack Ma don’t get too powerful, but it should try harder. But he was a relatively easy/obvious target. The government doesn’t just need to keep individual oligarchs down, it also needs to beware of and break up potential coalitions of big private financial institutions. A lot of potential oligarchy there.

“The Ed Sheeran situation is bigger than you think”

Rapper Macklemore was dropped from the Ed Sheeran tour throughout the US. Macklemore was dropped because he said the infamous words “Free Palestine” on stage.  Journalist Kim Iversen points out that there has been a MAJOR shift. In support of Macklemore other artists withdrew from the tour as well. And that was a major shift in the attitude towards Israel and Palestine. Conclusion: the jewish pro Israel is losing the battle for the public opinion in the US.

What’s relevant in terms of this economic system from AI. There is zero indication that AI actually increases revenue or profits for the companies that are building the infrastructure or developing LLMs. AI has become a commodity no one pays for separately.

That’s why majority of these investments will crash and burn, I think. Now this doesn’t mean that use of AI won’t proliferate and it being able to solve more complex tasks. It will. But it won’t be monetized, the investments aren’t going to produce anything for their builders.

‘AI’ which is to say large language models being compared to electricity or the internet has got to be a joke. On the other hand thats exactly the pithy sort of response I expect from acolytes of the ‘revolutionary’ functions of LLMs. The reality that they’ve hit a wall and that further content digestion might be paradoxically reducing model fidelity doesnt exist in these rosy and endless claims of godlike intelligences around the corner.

The real story of Eh I? is the successful kneecapping of the nascent industry by China whose release of open weights model stops the dipshittery in its tracks and provides the obvious future, commodified LLMs hosted on local hardware and worth very little directly.

Despite a judge’s order overnight, the White House had earlier today continued to block reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from accessing the premises.
Reporters have now said they have been granted access. The White House press operations director has also said in a court filing that full media access has been restored.

Your link looks good, opens with the single chord intro and introductions of the guest. Started streaming 102 mins ago, it is 1h20m long (80 mins). Perhaps you tuned in while it was still live? Anyhoo, I expect the full transcript will be available soon, if not now.
