Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
September 30, 2026
Iraq is Not Yet Sovereign

After more than 20 years of messing up the country U.S. troops have finally left Iraq:

The last U.S. troops left an air base in northern Iraq under a deal between Baghdad and Washington.
…
Baghdad touted the end of the U.S. mission as a sign of the country’s increasing strength and sovereignty.

The withdrawal was also celebrated by Iran-backed groups but raised concerns among some other Iraqis, particularly in the Kurdish region, where many fear a resurgence of IS as well as more attacks by Iran-linked groups, possibly emboldened by the departure of U.S. forces.

Meanwhile, questions loom around the future of the Iraqi militias, which the Baghdad government has sought to disarm, with little success so far.

The move is little more than symbolic. Iraq’s sovereignty is still in doubt.

There still are Turkish forces in the Kurdish areas, allegedly to hunt down Kurdish resistance forces hiding in the north of Iraq.

Militia aligned with Iran are still armed. Some of them are actively helping Iran in its war. This is in Iraq’s interest but makes them a target for U.S., Saudi and Israeli war planes.

Iraq has no air defenses. It is not yet capable to defend its own borders.

Most importantly though is its lack of control over its own financial resources:

Through Iraq’s U.S.-based bank account for oil payments, Washington controls the physical shipment of dollars Iraq earns and has shown itself willing to use that power after temporarily halting the flow this year.

Iraq needs a plan to solve those issues. Companies pumping or buying oil in Iraq should be forced to pay directly to Baghdad. If they are unwilling of so, because of U.S. pressure, Chinese companies should be invited to take their place.

Iraq will have to further rebuild its military before it can become a regular state.

Until this is changed, the US will always have effective control over Iraq.

The US military left, but US mega-corporations moved in. More than $60 billion in US contracts. The US used and abused Iraq, left it in shambles, left its people destitute, and now the vulture corporations will extract every dime they can from their latest conquest. “Democracy”?

Every “agreement” made under duress with the Outlaws must be shredded and its embassy destroyed. Somehow Iraq’s political processes must be “purified”–rid of all Outlaw influences. Events now in progress will alter the borders on most of the region’s states with some disappearing altogether given their colonial/imperial origin–Iraq’s configuration is one of those.

Posted by: karlof1 | Sep 30 2026 16:57 utc | 7

I remember when the Iraq war first broke out, and the USA was trying to prop up a man named Ahmed Chalabi, who was a Shia, as its new puppet leader, because the Shia had been “oppressed” by Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war.

It is good that the US met this deadline, although I agree that the CIA and the banks have not left.   Iraq does need to kick out US corporations and get control of its own oil.

What about the deadline that Iran gave, for the US to abide by the MOU by today?  I guess we’ll find out soon.

In the meantime, Scottie Soros Bessent is destroying the dollar with a plan to change to Stable Coin.   Thank you to whoever linked to this.  It took me a while to get to it, but it is very interesting
https://theleahfiles.substack.com/p/the-currency-killer-part-iv-the-machine

So, if Scottie Soros does manage to move all US assets to Stablecoin, then the rest of the world will have to go along if the US still controls the world’s reserve currency.  But I think that they are planning to screw all foreign debt holders at the same time.

This will really throw a monkey wrench into the unstable world trade system.

What is sovereignty ?
Frontiers internationally recognized + laws to rule over this frontiers defined internally + a “proper” money to trade inside and outside said frontiers and an Army of citizens to defend said frontiers.
You can have a country without some of these four pillars , but you won’t have sovereignty. A lot of countries are not sovereign nowadays.

Iraq’s oil trade is controlled by NY banks. The flip side is a nation’s oil and gas controlled by US corporations like Japan, EU, S. Korea.

Both situations lose nation sovereignty and that is the point of the USA energy dominance policy to choke and control the flow of oil and gas across the world.

“Democracy”?  Gio | Sep 30 2026 | 2

Oh, clever snark. A sales pitch sold to rubes, a fake promise of inclusion to a class never previously allowed, yet now has a voice in matters of state? Lol

Were you surprised at the taste of cum after a fervant promise not to? Jeez, the naivete; a general indictment of dreamers across the political spectrum.

Bonus: Did you know, were you aware, that in both arenas of hard and soft power (information warfare), states have at their disposal well worn preventative techniques to suppress adversary assets?

Like, man, can you believe the west is discussing proposals to erect a facade of supposed regulatory balance to both protect domestic industry (in this case, AI) and prevent foreign influence?

Even crazier, that actual plans are being drawn up to specifically target enemy data resources that form the tech foundation of their “supper” intelligence programs?

Oh what a world we live in, where the very devil themselves, zio gnomes acting behind our republican “leaders” are plotting and fooling innocent westerners to engage in conflicts against their best interests?

(Even though the corporate colonial model directly supports the entire fabric of modern western life.)

Bingo!
We are watching Uncle Scam’s $40+ trillion in unpayable ponzi debt get re-rated to “junk” status in real time.
Total economic/fiscal basket cases Italy and Greece can borrow for 10 years at 4.40-4.65%.
And since long-term interest rates are the average of expected very short term interest rates during that particular time frame, (otherwise there would be an arbitrage opportunity available via the swap market) this has downright horrifying consequences for US government finances.

That surely means Israel has to be reined or defeated so utterly that it is forced to define its borders in a proper constitution, limit its own armed forces to defending what territory it can have, and never again pursue an Eretz Israel project.

“Iraqi 1979”– Yes, agreed, and I tried to configure forces that might attempt something like that. IMO, patriotic Iraqis ought to consider retaking Kuwait and letting the Kurds have their area. The last remaining Outlaw base needs to be eliminated–Occupied Palestine–which will free the region so it can be reorganized. IMO, Iranians understand that and have been extremely busy preparing for nukes to be used against them. Wilkerson in his latest chat with Nima was 100% certain nukes will be used by the Zionists, a group that includes Trump.

I’ve often wondered about a “United States of West Asia” or somesuch, to get past the colonial nonsense/control borders that were drawn after ww1 and to connect the logical governance states that could be developed.
Ad you say, Kuwait is a nonsense state … it and southern Iraq should be one state; Kurdistan another; Syria and Palestine and Lebanon work best as a set of city-states with adjacent territory for each; etc etc. Probably dreaming though … there’s so much momentum built into the national-state concepts as they …

Stumbled across this earlier this evening. Made in 2004, when the BBC still did this sort of thing, just, it covers the perfidy surrounding Britain’s momentous misadventure into Suez crisis and the ensuing geopolitical disaster and compares it to Bush II’s similar intrusion into Iraq. One interviewee makes a direct comparison, noting ominously that Iraq my not be over and done with in just a few weeks…

Here we are 23 years later with the whole region aflame (as predicted) and before even getting out of Iraq we are charging into Iran with the usual ‘We need only kick down the door and the whole rotten edifice will collapse’ tally-ho.

The US interests in Iraq will have private security and if the government misbehaves there’ll be a coup or civil war or resurgent ISIS. Americans won’t let anything get between them and their money.

I think Iraq working with RIC would speed up their journey to independence and eventually to prosperity.  Trading oil directly to China for products and services that build up their economy would be about the quickest way for them to thrive.
<=I think if the iraq people keep the official Iraqi government out of the transition to China until its nearly complete and if the Iraqi people conduct trade in black markets outside of Iraq government channels maybe in Renminbe. that Iraq might be able to regain its sovereignty.

US Military Withdraws From Iraq After Two Decades

“Iraqi Kurdish leaders say the US withdrawal will leave their region, long a CIA & Mossad hub, vulnerable to Iranian attacks…”

Felicitations, B., for a well composed overview of the role of Iraq in the “Muddle East” equation.  That which impressed me the most was your kicker paragraph where you pointed out a reasonable approach for the Iraqi government in the “small” matter of oil sales as the basis of their economy.

One would hope that Tehran would welcome the Iraqis with open arms when it comes to free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.  Certain hostile interests would take extreme umbrage at such a mild slap in the face by a gradually recovering nation-state.

As for Iraqui oil profits lingering in the greasy, sleazy arms of the Di$trict of Corruption , along withWall $treet, as managed by the regime in Tel Aviv, or in West Jerusalem,as the largest city itself is looking at need for a recovery after a thorough thumping from Iranian missiles.

Whether the current Administration, or in the not very representative Congress (both houses), would fess up and compensate a land which U$$A military overkill which essentially shattered that fractured polity is at the acme of improbability.

The polity is precisely the sore-point.  Similar in one sense to the Frankenstein Monster, Ukraine, originally decreed a quasi independent republic within the U$$R, while more recently the subject of a coup directed by certain interests within the fading imperial power; Iraq is the product of colonialist imperialism by the Sykes-Picot”arrangement” where huge chunks of the Ottoman Empire were traded between Britain and France.

Iraq is the poster-child for that colossal faux-pas.  As a Sunni Moslem by birth Saddam favored his religious minority for government positions including the secret police and the military. Yes, the Shia Moslems are in the majority, but were politically dispossessed.  So they have a grievance.

As for the Kurdish peoples, they yearn for a nation.  However their homelands are parts of Iran, Iraq and Turkey.  No how’s that for a rat’s nest?   Ultimately they would deserve to achieve the status of a nation-state…ain’t happening anytime soon.

The Empire is facing the court of world opinion.  The U$$A is the designated bully-boy and remains militarily powerful…though that facet has greatly become degraded irecent years.  At the same time, the arbiters of Wall $treet have become roughly equal with City of London, Paterfamilias of Imperial Over-reach since the late 16th and early 17th Centuries.

Currently, the Empire is crumbling.  Can the farcical stooge in the Tainted House actually shed his ball and chain which is stoutly embedded by Nuts n’ Yahoos and his genocidal regime?  Again, not anytime extremely soon.  Mortality and burnout are facing both the puppet and the puppeteer.  Just imagine being in the shoes of that pair of creeps.  Betcha they are not having much fun these daze.

Our planetary population is in for some immense changes in the quite near future.  Cosmic Time Cycles indicate that as in the immortal words of William Butler Yeats:  “The Center cannot hold….”  Change is in the air, everywhere and even ubiquitous  in its spectrum of effects.

We may experience a rough ride over a matter of accumulating months.  The self-constituted “Masters” are becoming a bit nervous.  They fear three simple words:  “Out of Control”.

Asian Frog@023:  It must be stated by an American of the old “liberty and justice for all” school that the American people have been deliberately dumbed-down, ever since J.D. Rottenfeller created and heavily funded The General Board of Education in ca 1901.

Talking generations here.  The spirits of Sam Adams, John Hancock, the Township Militia of Concord, Massachusetts and the escaped Englishman, Thomas Paine…even though not even more than slightly mentioned in today’s curriculum…happen to remain in the hearts of Americans who still honor the Declaration of Independence.

If rote learning…not usually educationally enhancing…would arise in a post-consciousness colonized  nation on one particularity…that high school graduation would not be even possible unless the potential graduate would cite the gist elements of the Declaration in a public forum.

Thomas Jefferson was a genuine polymath…and so were a number of his cohorts.

The original American Dream was not a materialist bowl of pottage.Consumerism is a sin against elementary sanity.  It’s the trap which keeps the faux-economy humming.

The spooks run everything and control the mainstream media. Standard practice is say one thing and do the opposite. The puppets (politicians) they control are all compromised in some way and specially chosen for their psychopathic tendencies. If they do what they’re told, they’re hugely rewarded later.

Who runs the spooks? Who worked all this shit out in the first place? How long? At least since the ancient Roman Praetorian Guard (murderous thugs). Later, the Vatican. Always hidden behind the seat of power.

They don’t believe what we believe, but they foster belief systems that afford their control, then ride above them.

If you ask me, I don’t think they are human at all. However, that’s a BIG can of worms that nobody is ready for.

But I think you’re right, as far as you’ve gone here.

Asian Frog@2203:  “We haven’t had that spirit here since Nineteen-Sixty-Nine”.  Must have been a bit prescient when I decided to get the hell outta the City by the Bay in early January of ’70.  When in August of ’69 I drove from Minneapolis to San Francisco.  Got through Oakland late in the hours and got onto the Bay Bridge.  Something told me to turn on the radio. Hadn’t listened to it for hours.  Otis Reading singing “Sittin on the dock of the Bay” while I look up to catch the green “San Francisco City Limits” sign.

Bagdad by the Bay, according to Herbert Caen, embodies and emblemates the vortex effect possessed by that city on the hills. Hitting it sent me up, up,up…without even a hint of cannabis happening at the time.  Side B of the vortex is the place can take you down just as fast and furious as when it spirals you into a Magic Queendom.  Four plus months living intensively and extensively dissolved into something quite other.

Time to go.  Ultimately back to the Northwoods of Minnesota, a place where I can pull the spirits of the trees to wrap themselves around my soul.

Such things always require a purge.  The reign of terror in France, the execution of the Romanovs, China’s Cultural Revolution are examples from history.

France’s Reign of Terror was insufficient to eliminate the Ancien Régime, whose dynasties reestablished themselves under the Napoleonic Code.

A purge must be really thorough to be successful.

I think you’re right about the number of agencies. Overkill to give an illusion of many independent, differently focused agencies. All clumped under one command structure though. ‘They’ think they can avoid Karma through their methods (foreshadowing).

I think they can’t avoid it for very long. The Universe always seeks balance and these things are so far out of balance, the correction (when it comes) will be devastating to them. One can only hope it happens soon.

The modern day hebrew pretenders from eastern Europe are also taking over prime real estate in Morocco. So now there’s Ukraine (‘Israel 2.0’), Patagonia, Greece, Albania, Uganda, Morocco, Argentina etc.

Yesterday, I met the daughter of a prominent member of Moroccan high society. The young woman was transferring her family’s entire financial assets abroad. She told me that a specific group of Jews had been promised large tracts of land both on the country’s Mediterranean coast and on its Atlantic coast, including areas around Esauira. The young woman, about thirty years old, explained to me that her family had been forced, by direct order of the king, to sell their properties to Jewish buyers. If they didn’t, the properties would be confiscated under the pretext of national security reasons. They also forced her uncle to sell his citrus farm to an Israeli company at a price 50% below its true market value. To her and her family, as well as to her uncle and his, they offered the possibility of obtaining a residence permit in Canada, Australia, or the United States, in addition to being able to deposit their funds in any bank in Israel and later transfer them to any of those countries. This is exactly the same strategy that the Zionists used with the most influential Palestinian families during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

“The ‘United Nations’ today is neither united nor represents nations… Many true nations, such as the Iroquois confederation or any tribal alliance with a common ethic, are not represented by such a body, nor are whole nations such as the Basques, Tartars, Kurds, Palestinians, Hawaiians, Hopi, Tibetans, Pitjatjantjara, Misquito, Aranda, Basarwa, Herrero etc….Most nations in the United Nations repress a majority of peoples on earth. Talking with Thomas Banyaca, a Hopi messenger of his people, it became clear to me that we need a new concept of ‘nation’… We start by defining a nation as a people subscribing to a common ethic, and aspiring to a similar culture. Such nations may not have a common land base, or language, but do have a common ethic…
At present, many thousands of organisations, affinities, tribes, bioregions, and spiritual and non-government organisations aspire to such beneficial ends; in every continent, a majority of people– the ethical majority– want peace; a clean and forested earth; a cessation to torture, malnutrition, and oppression; and a right to work towards these ends. It would take very little additional organisation for these groups to meet together, count their numbers, and recognise each other’s rights. There are, for instance, far less paid-up or active members of political parties or oppressive societies now than there are organic gardeners whose life works seek peace and plenty. As groups discuss, and accept, the minimal ethic… they can quickly proceed to recognise each other…”

This is, of course, the second withdrawal of US forces since the Bush-Blair invasion. Bush famously declared “mission accomplished” on May 1, 2003. As usual with Western humanitarian interventions, the mission was the destruction of the country as a viable state and the plunder of its resources, so resistance continued. In an attempt to demonstrate progress, Obama withdrew US forces in 2011 after 8 years of murderous mayhem including the Petraeus “surge” supposed to ensure lasting peace and stability. Violence then expanded exponentially, culminating in ISIL’s blitzkrieg and genocide of the Yazidi people. Iraq’s army had become largely a payroll fraud, so Baghdad pleaded for US help which Obama withheld until a more pro-US PM was installed. With regime change #2 enforced, in 2014 the US forces returned, backing Iraqi regular forces and Shia militias to dislodge ISIL with extreme brutality and sectarian slaughter. As Iraq was so comprehensively broken by its Western saviours, its future probably rests in the hands of the effective regional powers, Iran, Israel, and Turkey, with Iran the likely winner.

It takes a lot of energy, perhaps in direct proportion to territory size and societal complexity, for the sociomaterial technology that is the nation-state government, to project power and to maintain it– maintain control over various claimed territories and in the face of constant countervailing forces.

One main problem with the current planetary human societal setup is that it’s a patchwork of monocultures, called countries or nation-states. And we all likely know how nature ostensibly regards monocultures and what happens to them over time. All nation-states that we know of are of course but mere blips on the geology of time.
