Yes, it is annoying.  I cruised by MoA to check on current events, and I saw that the Iran thread had far more comments, so I thought something of note must have happened.

Yeah….no.  It’s just the usual suspects flinging poo.

Very detailed analysis. People in tents don’t stand a chance.

https://airwars.org/prsm-lamerd-iran

“Visual analysis of first apparent usage of PrSM missile during Iran war reveals scale of civilian threat

An Airwars analysis of the destruction left behind by three apparent PrSM strikes on the first day of the Iran war in the city of Lamerd, found a damage radius of at least 170 metres in one case, with civilians recorded killed at least 50 metres from the estimated site of the explosion.

The attacks killed at least 21 civilians, including at least seven children and two women, with up to 170 others injured.

…

You would be hard pressed to find a reason to use the PrSM in a densely populated area,” Michael Meier, a former Special Assistant to the Army Judge Advocate General for the Law of Armed Conflict, said. “Assuming the [lethality] radius is 100 metres, civilian casualties are inevitable.”

Tom although I agree wholeheartedly I wish you would stop feeding them them.
Their incessant castigating has hijacked every thread and feeding them only encourages them.
Obviously b wishes to keep them around so please spare us.
Who cares what they say?  Just scroll past all their comments.
Stop making them important and they won’t be.

Thank you for the comments, Rob & Lox.

Getting me on topic: are there suggestions why (a) we’ve been flooded for several weeks with news of type “USA runs out of missiles” and then (b) USA hits Iran yesterday?

I believe the US ammunition/missile shortage is real. This is IMO why the first ceasefire came into existence: in hindsight, we now know it was less Hormuz closure — which does have massive effects but Washington either ignores or (more likely, I think) wants those. The damage to US bases in the region is also real. I don’t understand the purpose of these attacks but it may be more mundane than what I’m thinking. I currently believe all these statements:

  1. US elites cannot get out of the wars against Russia and Iran even if they wanted to. (They don’t want to IMO.)
  2. The resulting chaos is intended and probably our new world.
  3. Washington will prevent global nuclear exchange. (Conventional war is the racket, nuclear war is not.)
  4. The current wars (and those in preparation!) are used for immediate profiteering. Just like with Corona, I don’t believe that these profits are the whole story but they may be a large motivation for what’s happening.

So many mid/long term indicators are bad for the West: production, demographics, education, scientific output. It’s hard for me to see some logic but maybe I’m asking for much. I understand there is ideology, e.g. “liberal democracy” and zionism, but are these people really not thinking about their position in 10 years? (The die-hard zionists are exempt: I can see how they do what they do without caring about 2036.)

The military has a stockpile, which according to reports is dropping to levels deemed critical (for all envisaged conflicts).

The carrier groups near the Gulf can only carry so many missiles, mostly on the destroyer escort plus whatever the air group can carry. Once empty they have to return to a port that can reload them. Due to the loss of the Bahrain naval base, this means a several thousand mile round trip to Diego Garcia.

Since the Abe Lincoln got relieved, the replacement carrier group has a full loadout of weapons. One presumes Trump just couldn’t resist the temptation to start firing them off in the hope of finally achieving something…

You might be interested in my theory, which concerns the transmission of an infectious disease called “Nazism”. It is something that affects collectives, and comprises a mix of ultra-nationalism, supremacism, self-righteousness andsa sensense of “victimhood”. It may sound psychological but has strong physical manifestations, basically like a tumor that can mestastize to affect all organs of a state or a collective. In that sense it acts like a viral cancer, and as I said above, it is infectious (but not always. There are remediary pathways). What can happen is that nazism, the disease of a collective, can and often does infect its own victims, ie, those that survive can carry the virus, often without manifestation, dormant until it springs wide open when the conditions are right. It make take a generation or two, but it’s always there. The Jews clearly became infected by the nazism of the Germans and others who adopted or co-opted or were just infected by the virulent form of it. The virus laid dormant for at least one generation, though small tumors could be visible for those who looked. Two generations latter it sprung to life again, manifesting as tumors upon every organ of state, collective consciousness and the entire gestalt.

The curious thing is the ones so badly infected may not realize it until too late. They cannot accept the fact that the tumors on the body politc are malignant. So they don’t seek a cure.

The disease is invariably terminal, once it passes a certain stage. Israel is at that point and as we can see it has infected already a fair number of others through metastastases of the tumors.

Shall I continue?

IRAN JUST PUNCHED A U.S. MARINE CAMP IN JORDAN AND NOTHING WENT UP TO STOP IT:

Iran just slammed Camp Titin near Aqaba with missiles.
They reached a joint site used by U.S. Marines, Navy crews, and Jordanian forces without a single American interceptor leaving the rails.
This is why the Pentagon warned Trump days ago to stand down, because stocks are running dry, meaning the U.S. is out of ammo.

OK, re learning something about Iran. Let’s see how I can, in a few words/link help. – only doing this during the lull, till the, well, you know.

Iranian cinema,
Iran enjoys a depth and breadth of knowledge, and has a deep bench going way back.
Before the revolution, cinematographer/directors could take a bit more chance, but after there’s been a certain code that needs to be followed – says Captain Obvious.

Much of the success is owed to films/innumerable, and I won’t bore you with a simple internet search reply – although recommended for familiarizing onself.

One of the core films that has stood the test of time, is Mr. Simpleton/naive/ Gullible. Farsi: آقای هالو, Aghaye Halou, a 1970 Iranian drama film directed by Dariush Mehrjui. With superb acting byAli Nasirian, Ezzatolah Entezami, Fakhri Khorvash,

From one old civilization to another … something old and unique –

The 1,000-year-old Annals of Inisfallen manuscript—primarily created by monks on the lakes of Killarney—is on rare public display at University College Cork (UCC) in a free exhibition. [1, 2]

About the Manuscript

  • Killarney Connection: The 57-vellum-leaf manuscript was housed during the 12th century at the island monastery of Inisfallen on Lough Leane near Killarney, County Kerry, where local scribes wrote its records for generations. [1, 2]
  • Historical Significance: Normally preserved at Oxford University’s Bodleian Library for over 250 years, this marks a rare return to Ireland—and the first time in over 40 years the public can view the original pages in person. [1, 2, 3]
  • Contents: Written in Irish and Latin, it documents a millennium of national and regional history, from mythological invasions to Viking raids and the arrival of the Normans. [1, 2]

Worth looking at Sonar21’s analysis yesterday. It suggests that the war in the Gulf – for America’s part – is on behalf of US oil companies raking it in. Not just insiders making money off futures.

It always been my view: the marriage of convenience is that Israel gets more land, US gets the oil and the profits.

But the ethics stinks, theft sabotage, increasing murder, all in the box of tricks:

Any amount of people can die for Israel and the U$ MIC, and it is the same for the US and its oil profiteer$. Hence Trump’s efforts to shut down any mention of climate change, and still trying to get control over the oil rich Arctic region with Greenland and Canada. Theft in Venezuela.

“The refiners’ results show who is collecting on that. Second-quarter net income roughly quadrupled across the sector — Marathon from about $1.2 billion to $5.1 billion, Valero from about $714 million to $3.7 billion, Phillips 66 from about $900 million to $3.8 billion, Exxon’s products segment from about $1.37 billion to $5.47 billion — with per-barrel refining margins doubling or better and Exxon posting record second-quarter diesel output. The mechanism is elegant and entirely legal: buy discounted heavy-sour Canadian and Venezuelan crude, run it through sophisticated coking and hydrocracking, and sell the finished distillate into a world market where scarcity margins are enormous.”

Yep, keep the war can rolling on.

It is whose signature sits on it. Narendra Modi’s India — a Quad member, a US strategic partner, and a country the same declaration implicitly defends against Washington’s tariffs — put its name to a text condemning American and Israeli military action, mourning a dead Iranian supreme leader, and rejecting the sanctions architecture the United States has built. That signature is the story.”

Hegseth Extends Mideast Deployments Into 2027, Escalating Strain on Troops

Trump has told aides privately that he believes his strategy will eventually work, as 50,000 troops remain on hand to give him options

Sept. 2, 2026 9:00 pm ET

When the U.S. launched its campaign against Iran six months ago, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth promised a quick, decisive blow that would avoid a long entanglement. Now, he is quietly extending troop deployments in a sign that the conflict could drag well into next year, according to people familiar with the matter.

It is part of an open-ended military strategy designed to give President Trump options in the war, the people said. But the deployment of 19 warships, air-defense units, fighter squadrons and paratroopers across the region is straining servicemembers and their families and creating a maintenance backlog that could take years to unwind, the people said.

Iran attacked 7 different American military bases in 4 different countries with dozens of ballistic missiles and drones yesterday, and it appears that the U.S. is not going to respond.

Iranian deterrence has been re-established, as America faces continued critical interceptor missile stockpiles. Meanwhile, Iran retains the majority of its ballistic missile launchers, thousands of ballistic missiles in their underground cities, and is actively expanding its ballistic missile production sites once again.

Despite claiming to have carried out a large wave of strikes on Iranian military targets yesterday, the CENTCOM footage only showed a couple of valuable targets being hit in southern Iran, and nothing else. Iran still maintains their ability to strike any ship in the Strait of Hormuz, and can also strike any American military base due to the lack of interceptor missile stockpiles.

The American humiliation ritual continues…

“in the U.S. Wedding Attack in Iran”
I better repeat again that anyone trying to convince me the U.S. murderers-in-uniform are morally tainted is just wasting their time. I’ve known that since Lt. Calley was the only one in the whole chain of command that was prosecuted, and not even he got the death penalty, let alone all the bastards with their fingers on the triggers obeying his order. Just in case anyone thinks I’m defending the U.S. murderers-in-uniform.

The three-second video released by Iranians and linked by someone else here thoroughly debunked the claim that the wedding was the target, as if the single-digit death toll hadn’t already done that, but go ahead, capitalize “Wedding Attack” as if it was established fact instead of established bullshit. I won’t waste any more time arguing, I’ll just try to walk around all the brains that fell out, and not get any on my shoes.

No the green party certainly was a organic development but with Fischer that ended. I knew some old Hausbesetzer in Frankfurt that knew him from back than and one of them articulated his suspicions.

This was the time of 3rd generation RAF and incredible puplic mobilisations like NATO Doppelbeschluss. In retrospect it all makes sense.

Heiner Mueller’s remark about Hitler is as precise as it gets. If you did not read it yet: “ Krieg ohne Schlacht.” Its a Mueller biography based on extensive audio recordings with him. Its mainly about his Tango with the Stasi and Ministries. Incredible document. Also his Interviews with Alexander Kluge at DCTP TV are in my opinion the best german history lesson.

In hindsight, The German Green Party does certainly feel like a CIA destabilizing effort. It’s eerily similar to the CIA activities in Italy starting in the late 1940s…..from wikipedia:

………The CIA has  been accused of publishing forged letters in order to discredit the leaders of the Italian Communist Party (PCI).

“We had bags of money that we delivered to selected politicians, to defray their political expenses, their campaign expenses, for posters, for pamphlets,” according to CIA operative In order to influence the election, the U.S. agencies undertook a campaign of writing ten thousand letters, made numerous radio broadcasts and and funded the publishing of books and articles, all of which warned the Italians of what was believed to be the consequences of a communist victory. Time magazine backed the campaign, featuring the Christian Democrat leader and Prime Minister on its cover and in its lead story on 19 April 1948…..

The CIA provided an average of $5 million annually in covert aid to Italy from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. This aid went towards financially supporting centrist Italian governments and using the awarding of contracts to weaken the Italian Communist Party’s hold on labor unions….

Italian government officials agree that a stay-behind network of fighters had been formed against the contingency of an invasion of Italy, but not terminated until 1990. It is disputed, however, if this network was involved in a series of  false flag fascist terrorist actions in Italy that were blamed on the Red Brigades and other Left-wing political groups in an attempt to politically discredit the Italian Left wing……

Iran strikes US military bases in Kuwait, UAE — army statement
According to the Iranian army, the attacks targeted satellite communication systems, supply depots and US airfields

TEHRAN, September 3. /TASS/. “Tehran has carried out strikes on American military bases in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in retaliation for US attacks on southern Iran on September 1, the Iranian army said in a statement.”

“The Iranian Armed Forces have carried out missile and drone strikes on the bases of US terrorist forces in the UAE and Kuwait,” the statement reads. According to the army, the attacks targeted “satellite communication systems, supply depots and US airfields in Kuwait,” as well as “US troop deployment sites and radars” in the UAE.”

“The strikes were conducted on Thursday morning, the Iranian military added.”

El Lissitzky: thank you, especially for book recommendation. Yes, this is OT more content than some postings in this Iran thread.

Exile: with similar developments in Germany and Italy, it would be interesting to hear about Gladio-style operations in Japan. The entire axis under US control, what a long term gain from the WW2 victory that was militarily achieved by Soviet Union and the Chinese.

They tried this kind of subterfuge against Iran several times in recent times: the womens’ right rallies, the “massive protests against the regime” and most recently the Kurdish cards. It is great to see that none of that didn’t work. Of course, infiltrating in Iran is very different from doing so in “friendly” (read: vassal) countries like EUrope and (I guess) South Korea, Japan. We have so much to learn from the Islamic Republic.

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2026/09/paul-craig-roberts/muslims-are-positioned-to-change-the-correlation-of-forces-in-the-world-do-they-realize-it/

I had hoped that President Trump had found his exit strategy from Iran when he announced a few days ago that henceforth the war against Iran would be conducted economically with sanctions.  But obviously Netanyahu has refused to let his puppet out of Israel’s conflict with Iran, as Israel itself is insufficient to carry on the conflict.

…
Whereas Netanyahu might be evil, he is not stupid.  The longer Iran plays tit-for-tat with its proxy enemy, the longer Zionists have to orchestrate an event that creates Washington’s acceptance of the use of nuclear weapons against Iran.  The inability of the Muslim world to make important decisions is Zionism’s greatest asset.
If nuclear weapons are used against Iran, Muslim resistance will collapse. Turkey will retreat into NATO.  The Saudis will resort to being Washington’s tried-and-true puppet.  Pakistan will retreat into Asia.
Netanyahu knows this.  You can bet he is working on it, while Iran accommodates him by playing tit-for-tat with Washington, and the three Mecca agreement countries sit thinking about whether they want the security agreement to be meaningful.

USReal  & Western claiming Iran threatened to hit Israel if they hit the Ali Al-Taher mountainside,  which we all know that for months,  Israel has been attempting to reach or blow up, or occupy that ridge and is unable.

Apparently,  according to USReal,  there are Iranian troops down in the command center (everything IDF bombs is a command center filled with dozens of officers apparently)…

And supposedly,  this warning was given last month.
https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/432647
In any case,  the long and made up bunch of propaganda in link, is the IDF now desperate to rationalize to their public, why they have not taken the ridge,

Excerpt:

“Hezbollah declined to confirm whether Iranian forces are stationed at Ali al-Taher. Asked about the reported Iranian warning and whether Washington had pressed Israel not to attack the ridge, a White House official said the report was “not accurate.”

“Iran’s permanent mission in Geneva, the US Defense Department and Oman’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately comment. The IDF also declined to comment.”
“Two of the officials said Iran’s message was conveyed through Oman. They said more than a dozen members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, including at least two senior officers, were present alongside Hezbollah fighters.“…

Possible. But the Mecca agreement already is a feather ready to blow away and most likely will.

Just saying other than squawking,  there is no current agreement  or resistance outside of Iran/Yemen and the resistance groups allied with Iran anyways.

In any event,  even nukes wouldn’t stop Iran from turning the entire ME into a waterless, refinery destroyed, massive dune of sand, conventionally.  I think the Muslim muppets should simply hope that Iran doesn’t already have nukes themselves.

On the plus side,  Hezbollah/Iran and Egypt have one commonality… Palestinians to stay in their land.  Other than that, I see zero commonality in these Muslim lands among their leaders anyways.

Clearly the Joint Defense Agreement is toothless and destined for irrelevance (it already is).  It’s somewhat perplexing that the Muslim countries haven’t allied against their common enemy (Israel).  Had they united, Israel may not have become the evil empire that it has. I understand the Shia vs Sunny divide but it’s not clear to me why the Shia countries have not backed Iran.  Rivalry?  If so, they’ve been foolish.

Yes. I get the impression that Tehran is trying to train a Pavlovian reflex onto US decision makers: you hit us somewhere, we immediately hit back, and a bit harder than you did.

After a while, this should lead to a negative impulse when trying to set up the next strike. Tehran knows (and has said so for a long time) that talks with the USA are fruitless –this does not mean it was a mistake to undertake them because there are other entities involved– and simply making these “cheap” US attacks (which aren’t even that cheap) too costly is a good idea.

Even if the oil contains a mixture of sulfuric or sulfurous acid, it is not going to degrade halite (sodium chloride).  Boiling concentrated sulfuric acid with salt in the presence of a catalyst (manganese dioxide) under lab conditions will release a mixture of hydrogen chloride and chlorine gas.  However, that is not the same as what is present underground! If the wall rock is limestone, a different story, that will dissolve in dilute sulfurous acid, similar to how Lechugilla Cave in New Mexico was formed.  The VZ heavy crude needs to be diluted with light oils so it can be pumped.  Maintaining the caverns would require pumping saturated brine down there to raise the oil level without dissolving the salt.  Basic chemistry and physics.

…While China opposes the Trump administration’s military attacks and sanctions against Iran, Beijing’s relationship with Tehran is just one consideration in a foreign policy that seeks to balance relations with numerous countries, including the US and Gulf states, limiting its appetite to prop up the Iranian leadership at any cost, analysts say.

‘China, with broader global interests, can only actively promote de-escalation of the US-Iran conflict, and cannot and will not engage in fierce confrontation with the US for Iran’s sake,’ said Hongda Fan, director of the China-Middle East Center at Shaoxing University in China.

Zichen Wang, deputy secretary-general of the Center for China and Globalization (CGG) think tank in Beijing, said that while Beijing appears determined to defend Chinese commercial interests, it is unlikely to sacrifice its broader interests in the region or elsewhere…”

Iraq is roughly2/3 Shi’a.  20 or so million.

Iraqi Baathists suppressed the Shi’a, why US loved Saddam Hussein until he went after Kuwait.  US divided the Shi’a, and subverted self determination in Iraq.

US lost a lot of soldiers in Iraq, famously in Fallujah and the rest of the Sunni triangle.

When US wouldn’t crush ISIS in Kurdish Iraq, Shi’a militias and Quds destroyed the CIA attack dogs.

Iraq has given U.S. to 30 September to withdraw all military, or PMC/Quds does them like ISIS.  Those U.S. airbases in Jordan will be targets.

So about that USS Abraham Lincoln, the latest bone of contention between supporters and detractors of “Operation Epic Fury” (aka Operation Epstein Fury):

We’ve seen the images of the ship apparently limping into port the last couple days, looking like hammered dogshit, rust-blotched sides and all. But is the ship really in that bad shape, or is this just another media-created tempest in a teapot?

I mean, when a ship is at sea, rust and corrosion happens, so I’m guessing that those rust stains are the normal outcome of so many days on the ocean without maintenance; eventually they’ll be scraped and repainted when the ship gets properly serviced. Maybe they’ll “buff right out”.

(Disclaimer: no naval warfare expert here. I know practically nothing about warships, except that they’re ugly dispensers of death and destruction.)

And those supposedly terrible conditions aboard the vessel: are those really as bad as they sound? or are they just the result of a lot of entitled crybabies/pussies who didn’t realize what they signed up for and are missing mail calls and decent meals, etc.? The life of a sailor has never been exactly gravy, has it? Think of the seamen, some of them just boys, who served in the Royal British Navy under truly deplorable conditions.

On the other hand, maybe those conditions are as bad as they say, or possibly worse, as a result of piss-poor planning and logistics support for this ill-conceived war.

So what should we believe here? Does this all get laid at Trump’s (and Kegsbreath’s) doorstep (presumably over the objections of the Pentagon), or is this just the expected outcome of a long deployment over there, no matter whether that deployment is honorable or even necessary?

Another thing about salt domes in SE Texas and parts of Louisiana, then I will shut up.  Salt under pressure of geologic conditions behaves like a plastic material.  It is less dense than shale and under pressure, when it finds a vertical fracture, it extrudes upwards.  Over time, immense pillars of salt with mushroom like heads formed, sometimes miles across.

Due to seismic velocity differences, the salt domes became  readily identifiable drill targets.  Brine accumulated at the top from dissolution in groundwater.  Oil seeping up from depth floated on top of the water.  These formations were mostly all drilled and produced after WWII.  The “caverns” were left behind after pumping a mixture of oil and brine out…..Depending on the wall and ceiling rock, the void space was self supporting, but not forever…..The voids became another example of how “nature abhors a vaccume…” aided by the need to store excess production….”someplace”.  The SPR was not necessarily planned, it was just convenient….

Heh; they say nature abhors a vacuum, but she’ll tolerate a Dust Buster.
(ba-da-BOOMP)

Speaking of the behavior of salt caverns used as storage sites, back in the 19-ought-80s I wrote a paper in college about the nuclear-waste storage problem in the U.S. One of the things I covered was the Waste Isolation Pilot Project (WIPP), a scheme to store high-level nuke waste in salt caverns in southeast New Mexico. The project, which was supposed to determine if this scheme was viable, was a total failure. One reason is given in this footnote:

5 One of the properties of salt that makes it attractive as a repository medium is its ability to “heal” itself; if fractured, salt tends to “creep” toward openings and seal them. The rate of creep at WIPP has surprised geologists, who had predicted that salt would move about a foot in 10 years. Instead, the creep has been found to be much higher, about 3 to 4 inches a year. At that rate, they predict the complete closure of some underground rooms within 20 years, and closure around waste containers that could crush them or make their retrieval—one of the requirements of a permanent repository—difficult or impossible (Utah, 1986c).

Who’s offering the figures and what do they have to gain or lose from them? That’s one question that Sherlock Holmes might ask, yes?

It comes down to:  Who is a Jew?
According to Jewish religious sources who kept records there were fewer than six million Jews in Europe pre WWII.  But by their definition a Jew was someone born of a Jewish mother.  Generally those disputing the holocaust refer to these numbers.

On the other hand, by Hitler’s definition a Jew was anyone with one Jewish grandparent.  Generally those promoting the holocaust are using Hitler’s numbers, or those reached by that definition.

I live in southeast New Mexico, and you are quite correct about the reasons for abandoning the WIPP.  It became a political football and Bill Richardson, our former governor was also involved with it.  A friend of mine worked for the NM state regulatory agency involved with environmental problems with O&G production often talked about sinkholes developing due to excessive brine pumping.

By the same token, large underground salt mines are present in northern Ohio, along the Lake Erie shore.  One is underneath Cleveland, the other off Painesville.  Both are classic room and pillar type construction.  Both mines extend way out underneath Lake Erie.  Collapse of the pillars does not seem to be an issue, and mined out areas are used for safe document storage by banks and other businesses.  I am originally from northern Ohio, and tried to get a mine tour through someone I knew at Diamond Shamrock….back in the day.  The US Gypsum Mine under Port Clinton, Ohio was not so lucky, they broke through under Sandusky Bay, and the whole underground complex flooded in 1968.

Always preferred the British spelling of “vaccume” ….

Fair enough, but I’d go with “Hitler’s numbers” — that is, people who were killed because the killers regarded them as Jews. They are, after all, people who really were murdered.

I’m also pretty sure that even within European Jewry, the Orthodox Rabbinate was not the only “authority” within the European Jewish community expressing an opinion as to who was a Jew.
Of course, this renders absurd the Roman Catholic Church’s claim that Edith Stein was a Catholic martyr, but what the heck. 😁

see the maps at the first/second link.  Iran is on the offensive, and so are the Houthis in Yemen> Looks like the Houthis are wanting to consolidate their hold on the entire Red Sea coast/Mocha port, and kick the Saudi-backed militias out of that entire Taiz area

Violent clashes since dawn today following fierce attacks launched by the Houthis on government forces’ positions in the fronts of Maqbanah, Al-Tawair, and Al-Kadha west of Taiz city; where the Houthis are seeking to sever the road linking Taiz and Al-Makha, thereby enabling them to isolate Al-Makha from two directions and then attempt to advance toward the strategic port overlooking Bab al-Mandab.
