Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

How Ukraine’s 40-Day Campaign Has Influenced Russia

On June 24 the (acting) president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelinski announced a 40-day campaign:

“I approved a 40-day operation by the Service to influence the aggressor ‌state in order to press for an end to the war,” Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram.

Ukraine has for months engaged in waves of medium-range and long-range strikes on targets in Russia or Russian-held areas, mainly focused on the oil industry.

The campaign was launched while life in Kiev was still relative peaceful. Russian attacks were aimed at industrial sites but tried to avoid civilian targets. Ukrainian im- and exports via Odessa harbor were fully functional. The whole country had sufficient energy supplies.

During the campaign the Ukrainian forces used drones to attack Russia’s oil industry. Strikes on power installations in Crimea, Moscow and St. Peterburg followed. Ukraine soon added all Russian shipping and harbor installations in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea to its target list. Last but not least it started to strike at purely civilian targets in Russia like the warehouses of Wildberry, the Russian Amazon.

The campaign was designed to influence Russian politics as well as Ukraine’s supporters in the West:

Lutsevych suggests Ukraine’s successes in bringing the war to Russia – before and within the 40-day campaign – may have contributed to a change of attitude in the Trump administration towards Ukraine.

“I think it shows it is done for Russia in its attempt to conquer Ukraine and is important for the strategic posture of Ukraine’s forces in the future, although it is more symbolic at the moment.”

Zelenski’s campaign however did not take into account that Russia could react and would hit back.

The Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries, intended to create transport problems for Russia, were responded to by drone attacks on Ukrainian gas stations. More than 300 of those throughout the country’s east have been destroyed by Russian drone strikes. Additionally, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s railways. So far nearly 500 locomotives have been destroyed or damaged.

Both measures have made the re-supply of Ukrainian front line groupings increasingly difficult.

Attacks on Russian related shipping in the Azov and Black Sea were likewise mirrored.

All ships trying to exit or reach Ukrainian harbors came under attack. A missile and bombing campaign destroyed Ukrainian grain export terminals and other harbor installations. For all practical purpose the country is now land locked.

Metallurgical plants in Ukraine have shut down because of damage and the lack of export facilities. Revenues from wheat exports are down to near zero:

By late August, vessel traffic at Ukrainian ports had collapsed from a normal pace of seven to eight ships per day down to approximately one. Ukrainian grain exports fell by as much as 75% in early August compared to the same period last year, with volumes potentially dropping to around 4 million metric tons.

But it were the attacks on civilian warehouses in Russia which have received the harshest response. Russia launched a devastating campaign to eliminate Ukrainian warehouses in and around Kiev. About 90% of commercial storage capacity,  as well as its content, has been destroyed:

Ukraine is not facing a systemic shortage of basic food products despite Russian attacks destroying around 90% of retail chains’ warehouse capacity, Agriculture and Food Minister Taras Vysotskyi said during his briefing with journalists on August 28.

The comments come after a large-scale Russian overnight attack struck logistics infrastructure in the Kyiv region, damaging or destroying distribution facilities used by several of Ukraine’s leading retail and consumer companies.

Among the businesses affected were Fora, Budynok Ihrashok, Comfy, Epicentr, Aurora, Silpo, and Roshen, Forbes Ukraine reported on August 27, citing statements from company executives.

Despite the official claims several major retail chains in Kiev reported a lack of basic goods.

On top of all the damaged caused in response to the 40-days campaign a new phase of Russian strike is now again aimed at energy targets:

Ukrainians living in Kherson have been urged to flee after Russia struck a power plant.

Four glide bombs were dropped on the city’s thermal power station, destroying all of its heat and power-generating equipment, according to Naftogaz, the state energy company.

The scale of the campaign has grown sharply this year. Naftogaz said in early August that its facilities had been targeted by 287 Russian attacks since the beginning of the year, more than in all of 2025 and more than during the first three years of the full-scale war combined.

The much intensified Russian air campaign continues. By now the Kiev region has been under sustained attack for more than 60 hours. There is a lack of air defenses against missiles. The old method of shooting down drones with machines guns no longer works against the latest version of fast jet-powered drones.

Zelenski’s 40-day campaign against Russia was very expensive. The long-range drones used in mass against Russia were purchased at exaggerated prices. The campaign was financed by robbing the defense ministry’s financial reserves for troop payments. In total the Ukrainian defense budget for this year now lacks $27 billion:

On Aug. 25, Serhiy Rakhmanin, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, told Radio NV that former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov had complicated the ministry’s financial situation.

On July 15, Fedorov, summarizing his tenure as defense minister, said his team had taken over a ministry with no budget and risked “taking funds from year-end military pay and investing them effectively in middle-strike, fiber-optic FPV drones, low-cost reconnaissance, ground robotic systems, interceptor drones and deep-strike drones.”

The 40-day campaign to ‘influence Russia’ did work – though not in the intended direction.

Instead of be cowered into peace talks the people of Russia took it as an incentive to end the war on their terms.

While Kiev, for the first time during the war, has come under sustained attacks, the situation on the front line is also getting more precarious. Russian troops seem to have no problems to infiltrate and act miles behind Ukrainian lines.

Ukrainian troops are stuck in impossible positions, with no way out:

Four Ukrainian soldiers have spent between six and nearly nine months at the same frontline position near Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine, their families told Hromadske.

Their relatives are asking the military to bring them back from the position, where food, drinking water and fuel have at times become difficult to deliver under constant Russian drone surveillance and attacks.

Ukraine’s Eastern Operational Command confirmed to Hromadske that the four men – Vadym, Andrii, Valerii and Pavlo – remain in the combat zone near Chasiv Yar. It said they would be among the first to be replaced once battlefield conditions allow it, but that attempting a rotation now would expose soldiers to an unjustifiably high risk.

Given the Russian supremacy in fire power, it is a wonder that these men are still alive.

Comments

You only have to look at the massive caldron forming around Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in Ukraine to see Russia is now on a new footing of muscle power concerning the war in Ukraine. (Sviatohirsk just taken by Russia as well, just north of Kramatorsk). The gloves are off, massive continual attacks on Kiev, and on any NATO forces and warehouses hiding weapons in the country are being smashed. Odesa now shut down which is having enormous economic impact on the country and affecting incoming supplies as well. Ukrainians themselves are unsettled and becoming fed up with the coward and now vastly unpopular actor Zelensky and his goon squad that collect young Ukrainians off the streets for the front line; he is sealing his fate, something that could well be compared to that of Mussolini with a likely similar outcome. Like Trump he resorts to delusion and megaphoned lies to keep the can rolling, but it’s clear to see that this will come to an end sooner than later.

The sheer level of military production and technological advance within Russia is phenomenal, and it is allied with North Korea, China, and Iran – all targets of US bullying. This is a massive block of technological knowhow, rapid production capacity, and combined resolve that is organizing in resistance US, as well as its co-dependent partner in marriage called Israel.

As such it is fair to compare Russia, backed by China, and the other countries I have listed above (and many potential others), resembling something of a copy of ancient Sparta while the US resembles Athens with its corrupt democracy during the Peloponnesian wars. Even sanctions cannot touch this block now since the power of US dollar trading is shrinking and being replaced by resistant alternatives. Note SCO has just met and we know little about what was discussed.

Iran is no different, America is not winning, concealment of damage done to its forces remains hidden.

For all this, the US and West has nothing but a plethora of lies and self-delusions to argue its continued self-assumed right to push its diminishing power over a world which it sees fit to bully, inflict war crimes, and resort to purely overt criminal theft out of desperation.

The Russian strategy has been to attrit the West to the point where they cannot continue in a meaningful way. The exhaustion of stockpiles, the constrictions on materials and rising debt pile are part of this process. Opening the second front accelerated the timetable and has made the current events possible. The ability to bombard any stronghold of the Ukrainians (and Western bases) with some immunity creates a situation where offensives become less costly in lives for the attackers. In Ukraine the winter makes it harder to hide , and the firepower advantage kicks in. Both sides may have all persuasive surveillance, but Russia has better strike capability. Please don’t feed the trolls – if you starve them, they go somewhere else where they can get fed…

China wouldn’t beat them at that tech, if they weren’t hamstrung by economics. Nordstream pipeline was the equaliser, but the controllers took it out. Germany is always held back, periodically, to stop it becoming too strong. Russia is treated much the same. The controllers cannot lose control.

What EU and intel services does is they infiltrate bad actors in any political party that is a potential threat and then they start pulling it apart internally. So they may have infiltrated AFD.

Nevertheless it’s better to just vote for it and hope it will steamroll the globalist parties with pure mass and hatred of EU.

Yet more stupidity and desperation from Zelensky. Words and threats are cheap, but not effective. He loses every time he provokes  his war criminal terrorist strikes against Russians because they answer back two to tenfold. This has been going on for a long time with zero progress for Ukraine, but Zelensky learns nothing. Neither does a US that pretends it has nothing to do with Ukraine these days, but continues to think this war will eventually weaken Russia. That’s what it has been trying to do since 2014, but more specifically since 2022 under Biden and now the duplicitous Trump.

None of it has worked, Zelensky and Trump’s ratings have collapsed while Putin’s popularity remains relatively strong. So does it exceptional military capabilities. It has abundant oil and a resilient economy due to well capable leadership and now some powerful friends that do not announce their support behind the scenes with a megaphone, but are equally sickened by US bullying and it’s constant efforts to sabotage everyone else’s right to prosperity in this world.

A weak Germany plays along with the game of distraction and fear since Merz is about as popular as cat shite, and seeking any boost, even if he uses Hermann Goering’s tactics of pushing boogeyman fear.

The US has always been the mastermind of all this. If it and NATO had originally wanted to win this war they could have originally combined in a massive attack with Ukraine that could have destroyed Russia. But instead it stupidly thought Russia could be weakened by a long campaign of dribs and drabs both militarily and economically, but it completely misjudged Russia’s resolve and abilities to respond. It’s basically trying to do the same with Iran.

America’s leadership appears to be the most paranoid on earth. It thinks other countries have the same evil intent that it has. Most of its elite billionaire-driven leaders have always pushed anti-left, anti-socialist, and an anti-equality agenda. Those traits are beyond their use by date.

Putins Darstellung militärischer Erfolge widerspricht der Analyse ukrainischer und westlicher Beobachter, die zuletzt übereinstimmend eine Verlangsamung des russischen Vormarsches feststellten. Other Christian ViewsMany other traditions (including Roman Catholic, Protestant, and non-denominational) view the 40-day period as non-binding tradition rather than doctrine. They believe the soul’s fate is determined immediately at death, with the “40 days” solely referring to Christ’s post-resurrection appearances. So, while the Bible itself doesn’t give a number, the 40-day timeline is a deeply held tradition, particularly in Eastern Orthodoxy, to mark the soul’s journey to its initial judgment.

Meanwhile, it is beyond doubt that Americans are reaping enormous benefits from the war—and I am not talking about the common people. Profits from hydrocarbons have quadrupled, while the arms and services industries have quadrupled or even quintupled; for these reasons, the wars must go on. In America, diesel costs $5.65 per gallon (3.78 liters)—equating to $1.49 per liter or €1.35—whereas in France, the average cost per liter is €2.32.
The population is being fleeced, yet the treasury and the oil companies are lining their pockets.

Erdogan—a slimy, completely untrustworthy individual—has already repeatedly stabbed Russia in the back in Syria by shooting down a plane and killing its crew (to say nothing of the rest), and by ceaselessly supplying weapons in “Ucronazistan.”
And what does Putin do?
He finances him and supplies him with oil and currency, designating him a partner and purchasing his food products and produce, while sending millions of tourists his way.

Ukraine’s security service agents having shootout with SBU agents in Kiev.

At night in Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine came to arrest an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

When the bandit’s accomplices from the Main Intelligence Directorate heard that bandits from the Security Service of Ukraine had come to arrest him, they arrived and began shooting back.

A shootout took place in the center of Kyiv! According to the official version, as it turned out, the Security Service of Ukraine was detaining an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate because he was preparing an assassination attempt on a representative of the Russian opposition. I am not inclined to trust the Security Service of Ukraine, but I know for certain that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine are murderers and bandits.

Contract killings are their main thing. Bombings, killings — this is what they have carried out and will continue to carry out on the territory of the European Union.

Putin’s press conference at the end of the SCO conference: Russia knows that the British are assisting Kiev to launch missiles, made in UK, into Russian territory. He warns of the consequences, but remains in his usual language that doesn’t give away any details. Then, asked to the point by some journalist, could those weapon- manufactoring plants on UK soil become military targets in the near future?

This, says Putin, remains a military secret.

Let’s stop Russian special services in EU!

It is interesting that the contract killer from the Main Intelligence Directorate who was detained in Kyiv at night was supposed to kill someone from the Russian opposition.

Who do you think they would have pinned this murder on?

Correct.

Let’s stop Russian terror, friends.

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, that kidnapped a judge from Moldova and, using fake documents, took him to Ukraine.

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate, that killed helicopter pilot Kuzminov in Spain.

The Spanish special services helped them greatly with this, and no investigation was conducted.

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, that shot and killed Andriy Portnov near a school in Madrid.

It was not the Main Intelligence Directorate, but the Russian special services, who, dressed in National Police uniforms, kidnapped the owner of a jewelry store in Barcelona and held him captive for six days.

It was all the Russian special services.

How is the investigation into this kidnapping going?

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate, that prepared my murder at least three times, tried to shoot me with an assault rifle right outside my home together with my wife, and then tried to shoot me with an assault rifle near the courthouse in the city of Vendrell.

It was all the Russian special services.

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate, that pelted my house with Molotov cocktails.

How many investigations do you think the Spanish police conducted into this?

None. They know perfectly well who did it, but the impression is that they are subordinate to the Ukrainian special services.

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate, that blew up people in Monaco.

The Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate, then killed the female terrorist who blew up people in Monaco, killed her and buried her like a dog in the forest.

After all, it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, that blew up the Nord Stream pipelines.

Stop Russian aggression in Europe!

I am absolutely certain that it was the Russian special services, and not the Main Intelligence Directorate, that launched drones at airports and also staged this provocation in Leipzig with three drones that did not explode.

What a miracle — three drones did not explode!

And do you know why they did not explode?

Because if someone had eventually caught an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate, and they had blown up a plane carrying weapons, then the entire leadership of the Main Intelligence Directorate would have been put in prison.

But now, if someone had caught them, they would have said: “Well, such a special operation was planned, but it did not work out, but the planes carrying weapons were not harmed after all.”

That is what explains the miracle of as many as three unexploded drones.

However, no one is planning to catch employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

The entire “civilized world” pretended that it believed that this was not the burning of the Reichstag, but that the Russian special services were actually trying to blow something up with little drones.

I am 200 percent certain and know that this was done by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

And as long as the civilized world continues to turn a blind eye to these crimes, they will continue.

It controls the money/wealth, along with DC and the Vatican playing their roles.

Strategic paradox: every possible outcome is bad for Russia. Military victory doesn’t restore the deterrence that was the original objective, wouldn’t get rid of the crippling sanctions, wouldn’t restore European gas piped gas market, etc, etc, etc… Military defeat is catastrophic. Stalemate bleeds Russia indefinitely. The war has become a substitute for having a post-war plan — the process itself is now the policy.

Why did Russia wait over four years—that is, 1,600 days—to start striking military and non-military infrastructure in “Ucro-Nazistan”?Why did it wait over four years—1,600 days—to bypass Ukrainian fortifications instead of confronting them head-on?Many things don’t add up, and the military is not to blame.

If you believe the western narrative that the Russian invasion in 2022 was a “full scale invasion” with the objective of ‘taking Kiev in 3 days” then it most certainly doesn’t make sense.

If however that narrative is bullshit and the Russian invasion was a spoiling attack to stop a Ukrainian NATO trained and armed army of 60.000 from attacking the Donbas rebels and force Ukraine into negotiations ,,, AND that the Russians consider the people of Ukraine Slavic brothers and family who needed protection from Banderite oppression of their culture then it makes perfect sense that the Russians would attack the regime and not the necessities of life for the Ukrainian people.

So either the western narrative is true and the Russians are acting as irrational idiots or the narrative is false and the Russians are mirroring Ukrainian escalations.

At what point in history hasn’t the wests strategy been to bleed Russians? Only twice in Russia’s recent history has the west offered any kind of support for Russians.

The first was in the depths of the depression when western companies helped Stalin build up their industrial capacity because these western industrialists were faced with bankruptcy and the Soviets were their only source of revenue.

The second was between late 1941 and 1945 when the GB and the USA loaned and leased food, raw materials and weapons to Russia to keep them fighting the NAZI’s. basically they wanted the Russians to do the fighting and dying for them so they could claim victory over Germany as allies without doing much of the actual fighting.

Other than that Russia is always the boogieman that has to be starved fought and killed … without westerners getting blood on their hands of course.

Russia in stalemate and the outcomes left are:
The “Korean Scenario” — Frozen Conflict with Face-Saving Narrative
Russia declares victory based on whatever territorial lines exist, frames it as “protecting Russian-speaking populations,” and freezes the front. The key innovation is the narrative: not “we won” but “we stabilized and will defend.” This avoids the “what now?” question by maintaining a permanent mobilization posture against an external threat. North Korea has sustained this for 70+ years. The risk: it requires permanent economic mobilization, which Russia’s resource-dependent economy may not sustain. But it’s the scenario Putin is arguably already pursuing — the question is whether he can formalize it without triggering the “why didn’t we do this in 2022?” backlash.
The “Gorbachev Maneuver” — Generational Leadership Transfer
Putin steps down voluntarily, citing health or “mission accomplished,” transferring power to a younger successor who inherits the war and immediately negotiates a settlement. The successor gets to blame Putin for the war while taking credit for ending it. Russia gets a “reset” with the West — new leadership, new face, same system. This is essentially what Gorbachev did with Afghanistan: the previous leadership started it, the new one ended it, and the system bought time. The risk for Putin personally: he becomes the scapegoat. But it’s the only scenario where the system survives relatively intact.
The “Brezhnev Stagnation” — Permanent Low-Intensity Conflict
Rather than freezing the front, Russia maintains a low-boil conflict — sporadic fighting, periodic escalations, never enough to trigger massive Western response, never enough to end. This is essentially what we’re seeing. The innovation here is deliberate rather than accidental stagnation: Russia explicitly accepts that the war will never end and restructures its entire economy and society around permanent low-intensity mobilization. Israel has operated this way for decades. The risk: this requires the population to accept permanent sacrifice without a victory narrative, which contradicts Russian political culture.
The “China Brokered” — External Face-Saver
China brokers a settlement that gives Russia minimal face-saving concessions (perhaps retaining Crimea formally, some territorial adjustments) while Ukraine gets security guarantees and reconstruction funding. Russia frames this not as a defeat but as a “strategic partnership decision” with China. The key: Putin doesn’t capitulate to the West, he “accepts the wise counsel of our Chinese partners.” This transfers the political cost from Putin-to-the-West to Putin-to-China, which is more palatable domestically because China is framed as an ally, not an enemy. The risk: Russia becomes a Chinese client state, which may be worse than the current situation.
The “Nuclear Coercion for Negotiation” — Brinkmanship Exit.

Erdogan—a slimy, completely untrustworthy individual—has already repeatedly stabbed Russia in the back in Syria by shooting down a plane and killing its crew (to say nothing of the rest), and by ceaselessly supplying weapons in “Ucronazistan.”And what does Putin do?He finances him and supplies him with oil and currency, designating him a partner and purchasing his food products and produce, while sending millions of tourists his way.

Russia doesn’t need neither land or resources it has enough it can chew. Ukranian strategicaly a very dangerous potential advance platzdarm for conventional military force rollout ( I will give you that). It needs modern tech and markets…both of thise things Russia is denied now and will be in a near future.
The battered second in size post-soviet country (with hostile population) in need of total overhaul is the last thing Russia needs…

Nah the monsters( plural) residences are set in much more parochial settings behind gates and walls, far from prying eyes of locals. They are estates and castles and their deep vaults in the countrysides of the world.

They range from leafy Surrey to Scottish estates in Britain.
In every nation they ‘built’.

Remember the Hurst estate of citizen Kane? Look no farther than ziomordor of Ohio… and the islands of Caribbean and Indian oceans. The hidey holes of Newzewland and Tasmania

Hit them where they have never been hit before.
Far from the crowds of cities and towns of dumb citizens.
Where the hoi polloi can storm the castles.

Far from the wars and genocides they create and profit from.

Same with the illegal Ziofascists apartheid entity. The true owners and kings don’t live there. They are exactly the same people!

Attacking population centers only results in winding up the population into automatic defensive rage.

Remember how WTC and Pearl Harbour and countless false flags have been used. To ignite such response.

Hitting London , Portsmouth, Davrnport or the US airforce based would just incite mass hatred and conscription would not be resisted.

They won’t realise until a free years later when mourn their dead and the remaining mutilated. Their lords and masters loving the historical hatred to be used down the line again.

Actions against bases nearby would seem appropriate. As in the gulf states where the bases are being easily destroyed.

Clandestine bases.

Even the biggy in Cyprus – if the multipolar declared it a miltary target giving civilians 24 hours to leave the area.

The general public would not be able to ignore the worldwide warning.

The deaths of their boys and girls would be on the heads of their own leaders who had launched the strikes in the first place.

That’s how to be civilised before letting loose the dogs of war against populations as the USrael and natzios have done.

The majority of ‘civilians’ and most miltary personnel have no say or understanding of why they will ‘do or die and not ask why’ as demanded by their ziolords and masters.

You leave out the politics in geopolitics – the masses have to believe in something or someone. That’s the ‘religion of the masses’ bit.

Those are exactly the excuses that EU will use.
Remember, all the narrative in EU and USA, at least before Trump, where about winning big and restore the border of ucraine Crimea included.

Everything below is a defeat for the west.

The attrition, according to western sources, did deplete the weapons warehouses and the industrial base in the west, usa included, are unable to refill them in a timely fashion.

Economics in EU, and in USA, are in bad shape if not in dire straits.

Crippling sanctions are not crippling that much.

Then, asked to the point by some journalist, could those weapon- manufactoring plants on UK soil become military targets in the near future? This, says Putin, remains a military secret.

MIC buildings explode all the time in the West — if one of you is aware of a list/timeline, please share. Anyway, I like spontaneous combustion as much as the next guy but do you really think these ammunition/drone/etc. factories burn by accident?

It makes so much sense from the Russian POV: they want to avoid open war, with good reasons. They need to do something  to show EUropeans that their actions have consequences. Burning factories sounds like a good compromise to me: not only does it reduce military output, it also affects someone important’s profits.

I’m sure the Russians can ramp up their sabotage/infiltration to insane levels. If the West keeps going, we’ll get to see some of that.

Posted by: Konami | Sep 2 2026 10:09 utc | 156

It was always about making the Russians the bad guy aggressors this time. who were ‘unprovoked’, to invade FIRST, this time.

Having in previous centuries been provoked by invasions from the European quisling nations and empires – all the continuous historical shapeshiffter tyranic dynasties by the exiled khazaars.

This time they cunningly looked for and found ‘red lines’ that would force the RF to cross their border first.

That is the main revelations of the wikileaks diplomatic cables going back decades.

The reports identifying the red line trigger for the Russian Federation crossing their borders to protect their own land and native Russians.

That would allow the attempted isolation of the Russians from their fellow global partners.

That’s is how and why the tag line narrative hit the ground running. ‘Full scale unprovoked invasion of plucky innocent little Ukraine’.

It’s in every statement, every news report, every speech, every media personality.

They know not what they did by legitimising and popularising the banderists and Nazis of natzio and the whole Collective Waste into sieg heiling the little snotty green goblin dick tatter.

‘Slava Fascism’ !

Fuck them. Death to Nazionism in ALL its Shapeshifting forms.

You are right in many points here but it doesn’t change the core problem. The war was intended as deterance posture, now as it failed in this target it become attrition with discrete steps of escalation. 150 mil Russia against 400 mil European industrial base propped by currency swap with USD ( printer goes brrr and offsets inflation on global world)…
I hope it is clear the attrition won’t last long, and even if Russians manage to clear the Ukraine off the table – what is next “Iron Curtain 2.0”?

Most likely Russia is going for the minimum route of getting an equivalent/friendly gov in Ukraine like in Georgia after 2008. They know the Ukraine war party would lose in any democratic setting.

But in the case of Ukraine, they should probably take a more aggressive route. The best action beyond self military actions are creating and arming resistance groups in Ukraine to assassinate nationalist officials, hit recruitment checkpoints and crews, logistic targets etc. Albeit perhaps with the development of long range drones some of the guerrilla actions have been rendered moot.

From the Russian point of view that’s a problem. Nato gets away doing false flag attacks that don’t cause any damage to it. If they are going to blame Russia anyway, it should make sure that actual/real damage is caused.

Arms factories and depots in Europe are perfect candidates for this. The two Polish arms factories burning maybe a week ago are a nice touch.

The Rada is trying to find a Bunker to siege in.
Not so sure Gehlenskyi will be able to survive internal problems before being unplugged by it’s western sponsors. He was a “good enough compromise” between factions, barely tolerated by a bunch of clans inside 404.
There are more and more possibilities for an internal collapse and legal power vanishing, what will happen to the frontline if it happens and more generally, how will external actors react ? Will NATO intervene ? Will the RF agree or roll-in ? Well … in this scenario there is a good chance the whole Novorossia is taken and the rest is left to rot , if the EU wanna pay even more for a ruined territory, I’m quite confident it won’t bother the Russian gov.

why do Europeans resort to ridiculous false flags like Leipzig airport with no damage at all, when they could blame Russians for real damage at exploding powder factories?

There is generally only subdued reporting about the factories. They had the airport drone festival last year (I think) and now they turned the Leipzig false flag into a major event. My impression is that media spins *only* the stories prepared in advance. Perhaps they’re worried that reporting about the factories motivates copycats: a lot of sabotage can be done with household tools.

Unpublished proportions of their populace are laughing their heads off at this.

Part of the population is worried the current policy leads straight to war. This would be unwinnable in any classical sense but that’s not the point: the goal is to exchange a few missiles and dr0nes, and then use eternal war to fix the home front. Almost every Western decision in the last few years makes that scenario more likely, I’m afraid. The Red Army is not going to bail us out this time.

Vladimir Brovkin talks about Putin’s plan for Ukraine.

Before he goes into it, he points out that the technological advantage of drones is shifting more firmly to Russia, in the form new starlink jamming software, the extremely low effectiveness (breakthrough) high intercept rate of AFU drones. The ability to disrupt anti-infantry drones is now serious. Which translates to more frontline advantage. The last two fortresses of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk are under tight encirclement grip.

The Russian strikes on Ukraine have a far larger impact on Ukraine/Nato ability to wage war than the Ukrainian/Nato strikes in Russia, which are mostly concentrated on civilians. But strikes on Ukrainian bridges, ports, factories, locomotives and gas stations has a larger absolute and relative impact on Ukraine and its army.
The newly unveiled RUAF drone Dan-T, variant of Geran 4, is a cheaper, higher payload version with 500km range. This will increase the cost on Ukraine/Nato.

Growing number of Ukrainian civilians supply RUAF with info to hit AFU weapon storages.

He thinks Russia intends to install a UN external government in Ukraine. Naturally this leads to the question that who gets to really install the government. The likelihood of it becoming a non-western government is actually higher, considering US and EU detachment from the UN, leaving more power to non-west and BRICS within the UN.

Putin’s message to the west:
1. Russia will wage war and destroy Ukraine’s military capacity to wage war and no western missiles or drones will stop it
2. If there is negotiations, there will be regime change in Kiev in coming months. Russia has capacity to impose its will and rule in Ukraine against the western powers.

Zelensky’s message:
1. Ukraine will double down and increase drone strikes into Russia from 300 to 1000 per day
2. But it depends on ability to ship drones to Ukraine, which is severely hindered with ports closed.

“Dark Turn: Zelensky Announces Major Threats Against Russian Airports and Civilian “Skies””

https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/dark-turn-zelensky-announces-major

I don’t see how that can be done without Western equipment and Western targeting.   Nor of course do the Russians.

What next?  Dirty bombs.  Further attacks on NPP’s?

Last time there was mention of dirty bombs Shoigu phoned round the Western Defence Ministers and warned them off.   I take it that warning still stands.  Reuters refers to one such call here:-

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russias-shoigu-warns-uncontrolled-escalation-ukraine-conflict-2022-10-23/

There have already been attacks on several NPP’s, some of them not possible without Western equipment and Western targeting.  Remembering the Tabqa dam incident, I don’t believe we’d hold back from further attacks on NPP’s for humanitarian or environmental reasons were such attacks thought to be productive.

This, therefore, is the most dangerous phase of the war.  Not so much that it could escalate to Europe, though that I believe to be the intention of the Western leaders.  But that, using the excuse that the Ultras in their last days in the bunker are crazy enough for anything, we in the West inflict permanent humanitarian and environmental damage on this region.

Sounds unreal, but a lot that sounds unreal or that would have sounded unreal only a few years ago is now becoming the norm.

You can print all the money you want, but it will not be without consequences, but you cannot build weapons out of thin air.

Actually Europe as well usa are scraping the bottom of the barrel and they both have not the capabilities to rebuild arsenals at the same pace they drain them.

In ucraine they amassed a lot of weapons and Zelensky kindly provided the cannon fodder but it’s once in a while.
Rebuilding something similar to Ukrainian army will take years if not decades.

Good morning.
I always enjoy reading your comments.
I never thought Moscow’s goal was the annexation of Kyiv, but rather to demonstrate who was stronger—something that didn’t happen.
I would define it more as an intervention to prevent genocide than an invasion.
However, after the referendums and their incorporation into Russian territory, their liberation became a primary objective—not a “one step forward, two steps back” dance; as we can see, after 1,600 days, parts of the territories now considered Russian remain in Ukrainian hands.
It is also true that a significant portion of the Ukrainian population celebrates when they hear news of Russian civilians being killed.
P.S. Western mainstream narratives play no part in how I get my information.
There is censorship in Europe, just as there is in Russia; anyone who dares to question the government’s actions risks not only censorship but also imprisonment.
In short: it’s the same story the wor
ld over.

Simplicius is good this time, his piece ties several threads of current events together in a very meaningful way. Thanks, EO.
If Ukraine together with Europe and US really attempts to shut down civilian aviation in the Western part of Russia’s big population centres and manages to create a civilian disaster somewhere, then the warning that Russia is about to attack Europe gains considerable weight.
For example, Russia might declare the airspace above Finland, Baltic States, parts of Poland and Baltic sea not safe for civilian aviation, too. Just words, at first, but a very serious escalation, indeed. Just a thought.

No …. Russia did not start the war in Afghanistan back then …. it was the US/UK with their sponsorship in all ways — including intensive propaganda in Western domestic mass-media — of extremist Saudi “religion” jihadists and infiltrators plus a regional gangster warlord.
An agenda of  sponsorship of terrorism that was also applied to other countries along the southern borders of the USSR.
Russia was in Afghanistan at the request of the secular Afghan government, to assist it against US/UK/Saudi terrorist militias.  Don’t forget how some Western mass-media “heroes” of alleged “Afghan resistance” were subsequently  declared to be very evil terrorists (despite being the same people, with the exact same views and actions as before) by the West.

The facts that that the Donbas rebels have been getting bombed worse than ever for the last 4.5 years, and Ukraine was NOT forced into negotiations, and Ukrainian culture has perhaps permanently bifurcated from Russian culture as a result of this war, are strong evidence that the Russians didn’t know what they were doing.

No …. Russia did not start the war in Afghanistan back then.

Have you ever, ever checked the chronological order of the Afranistan invasion by USSR?
Really dude?
April 27, 1978 — The Saur Revolution overthrows Afghanistan’s president, bringing the communist People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) to power. This triggers widespread uprisings across the country.
September 1979 — Prime Minister Hafizullah Amin orchestrates the murder of President Nur Muhammad Taraki and seizes control, deepening political instability.
December 12, 1979 — The Soviet Politburo formally authorizes a full-scale invasion, as Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev concludes the situation in Afghanistan has spiraled out of control.
December 24, 1979 — Soviet troops begin crossing into Afghanistan; the 40th Army receives orders to breach the Afghan frontier by ground and air.
December 25, 1979 — The main Soviet deployment begins, with the 103rd Guards Airborne Division and other forces arriving in Kabul.
December 27, 1979 — Soviet special forces storm the Tajbeg Palace in Kabul, killing President Amin and installing the pro-Moscow leader Babrak Karmal.
December 28, 1979 — Two Soviet motorized infantry divisions cross the Afghan frontier, marking the second phase of the invasion.
Early March 1980 — The first major Soviet military operation takes place in the Kunar Valley, signaling the start of a long guerrilla war against the Afghan mujahideen.
May 15, 1988 — Soviet troops begin their phased withdrawal under the Geneva Accords, signed by the USSR, USA, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
February 15, 1989 — The last Soviet troops leave Afghanistan, ending the nine-year Soviet–Afghan War, though the Afghan civil war continues

There would have been 3 million dead civilians in Donbass by now if they didn’t do the spoiling attack. It’s bad even with this timeline due to artillery bombarding the towns whenever and wherever they could, continued by now drone attacks. Alternatively there would have been AFU attack that may have took hundreds of thousands of hostages in Donetsk and Lugansk, resulting hundreds of thousands of deaths within months as RUAF attempted to take back the towns. This was THE Nato plan for the region.

And the fortress belt Avdeevka/Slavyansk/Kramatorsk was supposed to be the next place where RUAF would pound their head next even if they managed to take back the towns.

Instead we had the attack to take land corridor to Crimea, spoiling attack to Kiev reducing pressure in Donbass, and quick push back of the 60k west Ukrainian army from the initial launching positions toward Donetsk and Lugansk.

In fact the heavy bombardment and AFU ground assaults showed up several weeks before the SMO. In fact two AFU BMP vehicles were destroyed trying to attack Donetsk from behind through Russian territory, which was also one factor Russia having legitimate right to counter-attack Ukraine.

We finally have the answer as to what Zelensky’s next big exploit will be—and it is sure to escalate the conflict to its ultimate stage.

First as preface, recall that only a week and a half ago we had reported that Ukraine was in the process of unveiling a massive new terror campaign against Russian civilian airports:

One thing that becomes absolutely certain now, is that the CIA director’s visit to Moscow obviously had something to do with this. There may have been multiple angles to his visit, but we are now left to assume this was the main end-all-be-all reason: to deliver a final warning to Russia: “If you do not stop finishing off Ukraine’s infrastructure, a new unprecedented terror campaign against your airports will shut down all travel to your key cities.”

The only question that remains is whether the CIA is in on it, or whether they were genuinely warning Russia about Ukraine’s intentions. Well, that may be a rather academic and unnecessary question, after all.

I’d note that zhaporyhzya is now changing shape, but the Dnipro oblast, mainly pokrovskye when taken , is the main break in AFU future lines. Pokrovskye is the pin.

Orekhov is definitely crumbling.

Also it seems RUAF created a breach just south of Barvinkova-Novonikolaevka line across the river. So that puts the fixed AFU defensive line in a position where RUAF may be able to roll it up from the southern flank, and from the rear on west side of the river. That in turn will lead to collapse of Novonikolaevka, and the large swathe of territory E/SE of Zaporozhye.

I never thought Moscow’s goal was the annexation of Kyiv, but rather to demonstrate who was stronger—something that didn’t happen.I would define it more as an intervention to prevent genocide than an invasion.
Posted by: Cagliostro | Sep 2 2026 12:17 utc | 172

At the risk of seeming pedantic I would call the Russian attack on Ukraine an invasion because they crossed a border with an army without Ukraines permission. That’s pretty much the definition of an invasion.

I would also not refer to what the Ukrainians are doing to the Russians in the Donbas as a genocide. They don’t want to wipe out ethnic Russians from Ukraine … that mean depopulating half the country and cripple the economy. What they are doing is an “ethnic cleansing” and reeducation campaign meant to indoctrinate ethnic Russians into believing they are Ukrainians and have always been Ukrainian but have never realized it.

I would describe it more like trying to force black Americans into believing they came from Wakanda
However, after the referendums and their incorporation into Russian territory, their liberation became a primary objective—not a “one step forward, two steps back” dance; as we can see, after 1,600 days, parts of the territories now considered Russian remain in Ukrainian hands. It is also true that a significant portion of the Ukrainian population celebrates when they hear news of Russian civilians being killed.P.S. Western mainstream narratives play no part in how I get my information. There is censorship in Europe, just as there is in Russia; anyone who dares to question the government’s actions risks not only censorship but also imprisonment. In short: it’s the same story the world over.

Hey, Barabaka, if you came here to troll professionally, you have to try harder.

The Brzezinski Interview with Le Nouvel Observateur (1998)

Question: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs that the American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahiddin in Afghanistan six months before the Soviet intervention. Is this period, you were the national securty advisor to President Carter. You therefore played a key role in this affair. Is this correct?

Brzezinski: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahiddin began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan on December 24, 1979. But the reality, closely guarded until now, is completely otherwise: Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention [emphasis added throughout].

“No plan survives contact with the enemy”
I’m sure the Russians didn’t plan to still be fighting in 2026 however I also believe the NATO/Ukrainian sided didn’t plan to either.

You claim Russia’s plan to bring Ukraine to the negotiating table was a folly however they DID get Ukraine to the negotiating table and got an agreement to end the war until Boris Johnson flew in, wispered in Zelensky’s ear and here we are today.

As far as the rate at which the Donbas region has been bombed I don’t have the kind of vision you have. I can only see one time line … I can’t see what may or may not have happened if the Russians never invaded in 2022. It is a fact that the Russians spoiled an offensive by a 60,000 strong Ukrainian army when they invaded in 2022. How that battle would have played out if the Russians did nothing is pure speculation as is an argument that the Russian invasion made the violence against them worse as you say.

The “Ukrainian culture” is somewhat of a moving object. Are we talking about the land that is now Ukraine but was Novarossyia until the Russian revolution? Or are we talking about Hapsburg Galicia?  Once that’s settled the current country of Ukraine as per it’s 1991 borders has never been a unified country … it’s always had a Russian half and a Galician half. It was the bolsheviks idea that you could mush any grouping of people together and they would become the new Soviet man and forget their ethnic cultures . What we’re seeing today is blowback from their failed experiment accelerated by the Anglo dream of Russia blown to bits and serving them.

There is one missing context in your chronology:

Query: Did the CIA interfere in Afghan policy to provoke an invasion from USSR?

Answer (duck.ai):
Yes, the CIA was involved in covert operations in Afghanistan to support anti-Soviet forces, which contributed to the conditions leading to the Soviet invasion in 1979.

CIA Involvement in Afghanistan
Covert Operations
Yes, the CIA was involved in covert operations in Afghanistan during the late 1970s. These operations aimed to support anti-Soviet forces, which played a significant role in the geopolitical landscape of the region.
Impact on Soviet Invasion
The CIA’s actions contributed to the conditions that led to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. By providing support to various factions opposing the Afghan government, the CIA helped escalate tensions, which ultimately prompted the Soviet Union to intervene militarily.
Summary of Key Points

  • CIA’s Role: Engaged in covert operations to support anti-Soviet forces.
  • Geopolitical Context: These actions were part of a broader strategy during the Cold War.
  • Outcome: Contributed to the Soviet decision to invade Afghanistan in 1979.

This involvement reflects the complex interplay of international relations and the lengths to which the U.S. government was willing to go to counter Soviet influence during that era.

Thanks for publishing your idea. As to myself, I have been following this war since it broke out in 2014, and I’m constantly on the lookout for things I would do if I was in Putin’s shoes. Ukraine is officially calling for a ban on all civilian flights over Russian territory.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Mykola Kalashnyk has written to the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar, demanding a complete ban on civil aviation over Russian territory. The letter, obtained by *Zerkalo Nedeli*, follows Zelenskyy’s warning that Russian airspace is becoming “extremely dangerous.”

Kalashnyk argues that the presence of civilian aircraft in Russian airspace poses an increased risk given the war and Ukrainian countermeasures: “In exercising its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine is compelled to respond appropriately to Russian terrorist air strikes. Given the escalation provoked by the Russian Federation, we recognize that the presence of civilian aircraft in Russian airspace entails particularly high risks.” He further notes that Ukraine closed its own airspace as early as February 24, 2022, whereas Russia has allegedly “ignored” these security risks.

This development is a direct consequence of Zelenskyy’s threats regarding “closed airspace” directed at airlines and insurers, and Putin’s response, in which he characterized any such threat against civil aviation as a “declaration of state terrorism.”

The official English transcript of Putin’s post-SCO Summit Press Q&A is now available where several remarks relative to Ukraine/SMO are made. Here’s one excerpt:

Pavel Zarubin: Good evening.

A few days ago, you drew a rather unexpected analogy involving orcas, polar bears and the special military operation. So, who is who there, and whom did you mean?

Vladimir Putin: You know, it was quite spontaneous – it occurred during a meeting, I believe, at the Pedagogical University, and it was indeed an impromptu remark. As for orcas and bears… If your suggestion is that the orcas symbolise, so to speak, the collective West, I would say that the orca is, without doubt, a formidable predator, yet it is also a highly intelligent creature, a cunning one. The collective West, for its part, was assigned a specific definition in the Soviet era, which remains current to this day – the sharks of imperialism.

Nonetheless, the essence, of course, is much as you have surmised. The thrust of my remarks was that if anyone attempts to drag us down the food chain and devour us, to consume us, they would be well advised to expect their teeth to be broken. And Russia stands ready to do precisely that, despite the insatiable appetites and ever-sharpening teeth of these sharks. [My Emphasis]

Putin gives a very detailed SMO report and more. No excuses not to read it since it’s in English.
