War On Iran: – U.S. Opts For Containment – Iran Plans To Attack

So far the U.S. has lost all phases of its war on Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Though a few ships slip through:

Tankers moving along the Strait of Hormuz dwindled further this week, with only five crossings on Wednesday and nine crossings on Thursday, down from a monthly average of 12 crossings, according to data from Kpler, as cited by Reuters.

Five tankers went into the waterway yesterday, according to the data, and four exited it, most of them moving along the Iranian corridor.

Traffic via the Bab el-Mandeb strait in the Red Sea was in the double digits, with Kpler reporting 19 commodity carriers passing the waterway on Thursday.

Before the closure of the Strait the traffic topped 130 vessels per day.

Those few tankers that manage to pass without being hit by Iran are not sufficient to relief the global economy from the pressures caused by a lack of hydrocarbons.

While the heavily manipulated future crude prices hardly budge, the price of real products, diesel and jet fuel, are steadily increasing. U.S. refineries are making record profits while running at full capacity. They try to avoid the yearly maintenance shutdown, a necessity that will later come back to bite them.

The U.S. has no answer to Iran’s blockade of the Strait. Its Air Force lacks the munitions to hold down Iranian air defenses and to hunt its ballistic missiles. Its Navy lacks the numbers to keep the Strait open. Its army is too small to launch the necessary land campaign. Its allies are strictly against an escalation of the conflict. Iran’s revenge to any renewed U.S. bombing campaign would devastate the infrastructure of its Gulf allies.

The U.S. is thus resorting to economic pressure. Its trying to uphold a sea blockade against Iran. And yesterday Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new economic war campaign:

“Watch this space for more announcements coming next week because we are going to apply measures like have never been seen in the history of economic isolation on a country,” Bessent said Thursday in an interview with Newsmax.

Bessent said the move will be part of a “one-two punch” that includes the continued blockade of Iran’s ports.

The Secretary did not explain how the new campaign would differ from Trump’s failed 2018 campaign of “maximum pressure“. Trump had renewed that campaign in February 2025 without it showing any result.

The Washington Post editors recommend (archived) to expand it:

The best path forward is an older, time-tested approach: containment.
…
The U.S. should adapt its blockade to be more sustainable, lowering the number of ships doing direct interdictions, while sanctioning anyone who buys Iranian oil that gets through. The regime’s frozen assets should also stay frozen. And Iran’s proxies should be relentlessly suppressed in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Gaza.

Crucially, Trump needs to keep the threat of significant escalation on the table, especially if Iran takes even the
smallest step toward reconstituting its nuclear program.

The editors seem to think of the 1990s containment campaign against Iraq, when, after the first Iraq war in 1991, the country was put under devastating pressure. Some 500,000*  Iraqi children died of hunger and a lack of medication. A decade later Iraq was ripe to fall and got invaded.

But Iran is in completely different situation. It has closed the Strait and the lack of hydrocarbons passing through will, over time, hit the U.S.

Iran’s economy is mostly autarkic. It produces enough food, energy and weapons to survive a long campaign. It has lots of land based lines of communication. And, unlike Iraq in the 1990s, it can shot back.

When Trump attempted his maximum pressure campaign Iran did little to defend itself. The situation has changed since. Any renewed economic war campaign against Iran is likely to be countered by active measures.

Iran has announced that it is new strategy is to go offensive:

An adviser and aide to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei says the Leader’s strategy for Iran to shift the war to an offensive phase if its conditions are not met will “undoubtedly change the equations of power in the world.”

Mohammad Mokhber made the remarks in a post on his personal page on Thursday, linking the strategy to developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the failure of the United States to protect its allies in the Persian Gulf.

“The definite strategy of the Leader to make the war offensive if Iran’s conditions are not fulfilled will undoubtedly change the equations of power in the world,” Mokhber wrote.

Its options to do so?

It could finally start to directly attack those U.S. ships which try to blockade the country. It could launch drones against any place in the Middle East that houses U.S. military. There are also many U.S. companies which operate in the Gulf countries.

A containment strategy assumes that Iran, or any of its friends and allies, will not hit back or take aggressive counter measures. It also presumes that the U.S. can sustain a lack of hydrocarbon for a longer time than its experts think.

But whatever the U.S. may think or do, Iran is unlikely to be afraid of it.

Its Trump Delusional Friday….from Iranintl
Trump says he may declare Strait of Hormuz US territory soon

President Donald Trump said Friday that he might soon declare the Strait of Hormuz “a territory of the United States,” while reiterating that Iran would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.“Pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Strait of Hormuz a territory of the United States,” Trump said.He also said Iran would have obtained a nuclear weapon without US B-2 bomber strikes during the 12-day war in June 2025.“If we didn’t hit them, you would have had a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, adding: “They’re never going to have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump only promised no NEW wars, we’ve been at war with Iran since ’79.
Posted by: The Owl | Aug 14 2026 18:19 utc | 30

The war-on-iran did not start on February 28 of this year, or June of last, or 1979, or even before that in 1953. It’s been on-going at least since oil was discovered in early 1900s.

First the Brits, to change over their coal fired fleet to oil, then after the loss of their empire, handed the dossier over to the current empire.

Between 1917 and 1919 Churchill caused the great Persian famine, by diverting the grain/wheat that was destined for Iran to his troops, causing the death of at least a third of the population – nearly 10 million souls.

Before the discovery of oil, in 1890 Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, granted tobacco concessions to the British Empire, causing a rebellion, and many deaths.

Some of this history gets lost in the current context, but knowing it allows one to understand the Iranian mentality of resisting what may come.

And I didn’t even touch on WWII or the Soviets’ meanderings in the North.

Trump was joking about declaring Hormuz US territory, White House says

President Donald Trump was joking when he said the United States would declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory after the war with Iran, a senior White House official said on Friday, adding that Trump had not discussed such a move with his advisers, according to Wall Street Journal reporter Brian Schwartz.
“Per a senior White House official- President Trump has not met with his advisers about declaring the Strait of Hormuz a U.S. territory post the war and was joking during his speech today in New York. My observation while I watched the speech in person- he did chuckle after he said it but then he seemed to say “it’s true,” Schwartz posted on X.

The current stalemate is not good for all sides – if this lasts for too long (e.g. multiple years), it is a lost-lost-lost situation.

It is a lost for Iran because of high inflation, economic sanctions, lost development opportunity, diplomatic isolations, etc. Iran does not have the strength to destroy US in a war of attrition. Long term stalemate may cause political disunity and civil discontents. Neighboring states will gradually find alternatives to the Strait, and the world will adapt with the lost oil through it.

It is a lost for US for many reasons that b and many commenters already mentioned, e.g. high military, political and economic cost, low morale, alliances disunity, etc.

It is a lost for the world for the high oil price, inflation, and uncertainty.

I think Iran should lower its unrealistic and unreasonable demands (e.g. $300 billions war reparations, tolls in the Strait), and focus on the justifiable needs (stop the sanctions, unfreeze assets, peace and respects). US should drop its bullying and arrogant attitude, and target only issues that matters in the long terms (e.g. freedom of passage in the Strait, peaceful use of nuclear energy and gradual military withdrawal from the region).

I remember clearly, how the whole world jumped to comply with the covid19 debacle, including Russia, Iran, China and North Korea. It became obvious to me that there was an unknown level of control above all the personalities we see in the mainstream. Those that appear to be at the top, are still dancing to the tune of that hidden hand. I believe ‘they’ took a big chance with that, because it woke many people up to the true extent of that global control.
What we now see in this ME travesty, is just more of that manipulation. The aim is to destroy the old world order, as it has always been for a long time. The hidden hand exploits old enmities between different races to create division it can hide behind. It seems nothing can stop this. Many will die as the world we knew burns.
If I didn’t know better (which I don’t), I’d say that hidden hand is not human. Perhaps, not even from this planet. Only some extraordinary intervention from unknown sources could prevent it from carrying out its intent.
Only a forlorn hope is left.

The US has not held the high ground in this ill thought out war since mid-March when it was predicted by Americans themselves but not the US administration) that air defences would be weakened in the GULF and in Israel. Nothing that has been said since (except fanciful Trump confabulation) confirms that anything has changed, in fact things are progressively getting worse for the US at any number of levels. Iran is also shifting its position towards taking a far more aggressive stance; it has increased its missile and other weapons production, and the Hormuz is still well under its control. It is now signaling potential attacks on US soil far beyond military bases. If this happens it will flip out the American people who in majority do not support this war and Trump’s ratings last week reached minus 27. Much worse than even Biden in his last year of office.

Saudi Arabia is already (surprisingly) running short of cash as Yemen’s Ansar Allah continue attacks, and the UAI is said to be making deals with Iran.

I don’t think this puts Trump in a very strong position and I suspect that he may be fearing for his own life.  Perhaps that has something to do with Lindsey Graham’s death and how it is likely to have taken place.

Ukraine’s finished as far as I am concerned, and Russia shows signs is likely preparing to take Kiev as well as Odesa. NATO? What NATO?

Eventually the stock market will realise the middle fraction distillate (diesel and kerosine) oil supply problem is actually serious and not a roller coaster thrill for profiteering – it will be long term if Iran does not get its demands met. That will have serious impact on voters and overall US dwindling power. Don’t mention rare earths and US weapons production, particularly Patriot production and F-35 radar systems.

It is fairly clear that Russia and China are strongly behind Iran but of course they will keep their cards close to their chests. Iran now influences both countries attitudes and they are becoming just as plucky in telling the US bully boy to shove it.

We are likely to see Russia attack NATO countries ships tit for tat now, and China is learning much about the weakness of the US navy if it ever tries to interfere in the Straits between the mainland and Taiwan or the South China Sea.

I just watched a very informative Alastair Crooke video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZl6PBfKcRI) well worth listening to. About half way through the video he talks about the Iranian way of thinking compared to the West and this is in my opinion very important material to understand.

“I feel like a jackass caught in a Texas hailstorm — I can’t run, I can’t hide and I can’t make it stop.” U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson’s desperate comment to aide, Bill Moyers, came after a massive and sustained aerial bombing campaign in North Vietnam — codenamed ‘Operation Rolling Thunder’ — had failed in its aim of pressuring the North Vietnamese leadership into peace talks…..

…..Over 60 years on, and five months after the onset of current U.S. President Donald Trump’s ‘Operation Epic Fury’ aerial bombing campaign, senior security sources in Washington and London have told OilPrice.com that he faces the same dilemma as Johnson. “It’s pretty clear now that Iran won’t capitulate militarily, and they won’t give an inch on getting everything they asked for [in the 14-point memorandum of understanding for peace], because they see anything other than a surrender as a victory,” one senior Washington-based source who works closely with the U.S. Treasury exclusively told OilPrice.com last week……

Given last election appears to have been 2012, and that the Temporary Leadership Council was then created by decree, eventually expelling 3/8 of STC membership on accusation of secessionism….has become more like the remnant of the internationally recognised government.

As Yemen defacto no longer is a single country at present, it is hard to pretend that one government rules it… if governments were formed by international recognition the world would be a strange place… which it often is.

Palestinians Widely Reject Hamas Disarmament Before Full Israeli Withdrawal From Gaza: Report

“Over 70 percent of respondents believe Israel would resume its genocide in Gaza the moment the resistance lays down its weapons.

Despite its near-unanimous view on disarmament, an overwhelming majority want Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas out of office.

Asked who should replace Abbas, respondents named Marwan Barghouti, who has been held in Israeli prison for more than 20 years, by a wide margin over every other figure on the list.

The survey also showed Palestinians overwhelmingly disliked the Board of Peace overseeing US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan. Israeli killings have continued unabated despite the ceasefire, meanwhile Israeli Occupation forces hold 70% of the Strip, keeping aid at critically low levels.”

This pressure campaign is not aimed at Iran but at the rest of the planet.Having stolen the Caribbean rim oil fields of South America the USA can drip-feed the US domestic market to survive, The real pressure is on the rest of the planet and the USA has absolutely no interest if that pressure hits friend or foe. Its shocking to see massive oil prices in the UK and France and Ireland when so much product is available from RF, and from capped oil fields in the North Sea and South Cork and West Mayo/Galway.

JPMorgan says Iran, Oman ‘legally justified’ to charge Hormuz navigation fees

Denmark, Sweden, and Turkiye charge service fees for vessels to pass through narrow waters in their maritime territory, providing a precedent for Iran and Oman to do the same for the Strait of Hormuz

News Desk AUG 14, 2026

US investment bank JPMorgan has suggested that Iran and Oman’s strategy of imposing mandatory “navigational safety” fees to transit the Strait of Hormuz may be legally justified, the Financial Times (FT) reported earlier this month.

JPMorgan explained in a memo that international law grants ships the right of “innocent passage” through territorial waters, making it illegal to charge fees simply for transit (tolls).

However, charging fees for specific navigational and security services may be permissible, the memo argued.

For example, Denmark and Sweden currently levy charges on vessels transiting the Danish Straits. Rather than charging a toll, which would be illegal, they charge for services.

Denmark’s Pilotage Act makes pilotage mandatory for vessels carrying hazardous cargo – such as oil, chemicals, or gases – or more than 5,000 metric tons of bunker oil.

Pilotage refers to the service of guiding a ship or aircraft through hazardous, confined, or coastal waters and local areas using visual landmarks, charts, and specialized local knowledge. The pilotage fees are paid to the Danish Ministry of Business and range from $10,000 to $25,000 per transit for a Balticmax tanker.

Trump posted AI-generated images on Truth Social portraying himself aboard an Iranian tanker under the caption “This is our tanker now.”
The first image showed Trump with a US flag and two American service members on the deck, with an Islamic Republic flag depicted underfoot. Two men, one wearing a black turban and another a keffiyeh, were shown falling from the vessel.
Minutes later, Trump posted a similar AI-generated image in which the two falling figures had been removed.

The West Bank Is Being Ordered to Die Quietly

…What Palestinians are being asked to surrender is not simply a rifle. They are being asked to surrender the ability to interrupt their own removal. The acceptable Palestinian victim is patient enough to remain unarmed and preferably dead before anger can make him politically inconvenient. He may be mourned after the settlement has been built over him, provided nobody asks what he was supposed to do when armed men reached his door. In Qusra, the army arrived, saw the burning mosque and left. In Tal, the villagers did not leave. Between those two facts lies the entire promise of unilateral Palestinian disarmament: Israel and its settlers may keep the weapons, while Palestinians are granted the peace of dying quietly.

(Excerpt)……In January 2012, Andrew Adler, the owner and publisher of a small weekly newspaper called the Atlanta Jewish Times, sparked considerable controversy when he penned an article titled ‘What Would You Do?’ in which he put forth three possible responses Israel might pursue if Iran were to acquire a nuclear weapon. The first two — pre-emptive strikes on Hezbollah and Hamas and disobeying the US Secretary of Defense to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities — failed to raise any eyebrows. Adler’s third suggestion, however, would result in his immediate resignation as editor and the subsequent sale of his newspaper:

Three, give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies. Yes, you read “three” correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel’s existence. Think about it…….

Oil from the SPR has generally been loaned since the start of the US war of aggression against IRAN.  The contracts call for the return of the oil with an 18-22% additional volume (fee).  The contract period varies but is to be closed in 2027-2028.

Welcome to Britain…
The persecution of the British anti-fascist, anti-Zionist campaigner, Tony Greenstein, is more than a personal trial for him and his supporters. It is a lesson in how Israel works to defeat the Palestinians at every turn.

Greenstein has a long history of outspoken, fearless opposition to Zionism and the State of Israel. His support for the Palestine cause has been equally bold and vehement. Given that position, it was only a matter of time before the Zionists got to him. He will stand trial at Kingston Crown Court in London for the second time in eight months, charged under the Terrorism Act. Anything more absurd and unjust can hardly be imagined.

He was born in Liverpool, the son of an orthodox Jewish family, who grew up to be an atheist and activist for left-wing causes. A founder member of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in the 1980s, he has long viewed Zionism as a racist, Jewish supremacist ideology which he has fought against most of his life.
As an activist for the Palestine cause, he soon attracted the attention of the Zionists in Britain and their backers in government. They consistently accused him of ‘antisemitism’ – which is the same as anti-Zionism in their lexicon. In 2018, he was driven to sue the Campaign Against Antisemitism, a British pro-Israel charity, for libel along these lines. The same charge of antisemitism got him expelled from the British Labour Party, and most recently from the Green Party.

But the most devastating accusation he has faced is the charge of terrorism. It started after October 7, 2023, when anti-Hamas hysteria was at its height in Israel and the western world. Police broke into Greenstein’s home in Brighton in late December 2023 and arrested him for supporting Hamas. This was on the basis of a tweet he previously posted saying he backed the Palestinian group’s resistance against the Israeli army.

… [He] is being prosecuted under section 12 of the Terrorism Act, 2000. If convicted, he faces up to 14 years in prison.

Dear b,

it’s the weekend and it’s a beautiful day, but please change the number of Iraqi children in your article from

Some 50,000 Iraqi children died

to 500.000. It’s doing an injustice to the people of Iraq and shedding a wrong light on the atrocity of that war. As has been pointed out in previous comments, the number comes directly from the horse’s mouth, so it has high legitimacy. The Albright interview is quite a banger in several ways and should be considered essetial information about US imperialism.

Those three Jewish oligarchs who were not among the red directors during the late part of the USSR and who were punished by Russia under Putin managed to sift out something like $150B. But I dont know if that part had anything to do with gold.

AI:
When the Soviet Union collapsed in late 1991, official disclosures revealed that state gold reserves had plummeted to just 240 metric tons—a stark drop from Western intelligence estimates of 1,500 to 3,000 tons.
Roughly 1,000 to 2,000 tons of expected gold were “missing,” having been rapidly sold off or depleted in the preceding years.
Where the Gold WentEmergency Economic Sales: The Gorbachev government sold hundreds of tons of gold on the international market (such as through Zurich) in 1990 and 1991 to pay foreign debts and buy essential food imports.
Loan Collateral: An additional 150 tons of the remaining reserves were tied up in Western banks as collateral for emergency loans.
Overestimated Baselines: Western analysts and the CIA later admitted their decades-old estimates of Soviet stockpiles and annual mining outputs relied on severe guesswork and were vastly inflated.
Alleged Misappropriation: Russian parliamentary inquiries and media reports at the time suggested high-ranking Communist Party officials may have funneled or hidden state assets, fueling widespread public belief in grand-scale theft

I guess there is plenty of room for some of it in that summary if Yuval is right.

Iran defiant on strait as Trump tells Americans to accept high gas prices

Iran called on the U.S. to accept defeat while President Donald Trump blasted Tehran as “very evil” and told Americans to brace for continued high fuel prices as a result of the war.

Progress toward peace talks and oil tanker traffic through the ‌strategic Strait of Hormuz waterway remained halted, with no sign the warring parties were moving toward ending the conflict that the U.S. and Israel launched on February 28.

“This strait ‌will be opened and closed only under Iran’s command, and so long as you do not accept the reality of defeat and stop indulging in fantasies, Iran will continue to enforce the blockade,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi posted on X early on Saturday….

……”The Strait of Hormuz cannot be seized by a tweet or an aircraft carrier, by issuing an order or by delivering an election speech,” Gharibabadi said…..

…..”What we’re doing is a great service for the world, not only for ourselves … and we’re really doing a great job,” Trump said, adding that a 260-day deployment by a U.S. aircraft carrier supporting the war effort was “not nearly long enough.”……

Lol if it’s going to be US territory then it will have nuclear weapons by default …

One thing that bothers me in this situation is how the West – as usual – doesn’t move an eyebrow over USA’s bullying. The Venezuela situation, I can’t even think of it, turns me sick. They won’t capture Iran like they took Venezuela. But they’ll try with all means to turn it into some Libya or Syria or Iraq. And the Western powers are all in. These are not our leaders. They’re our enemies.

“Its Navy lacks the numbers to keep the Strait open.”

It’s not numbers that the US Navy lacks (they could call in more ships from other theatres, if that was acceptable), although the number of ships in dock for not-very-quick repairs won’t help. The USN lacks the capacity to enter the SoH in any numbers or frequency and still stay afloat. And Iran has probably not yet used its most powerful anti-ship missiles. As far as fighting countries as well armed as Iran goes, the USN is obsolete.

As for Iran going on the offensive, I hope they have some subs in reserve, and direct a few torpedoes at a carrier group. Then the only safe distance would be in the Atlantic, or maybe San Diego.

President Donald Trump just announced plans to declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory following the defeat of Iran.
‘Pretty soon, I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States… we have the blockade… no ships get through unless we want them to,’ Trump declared at a Garden City rally.
Trump told a crowd of law enforcement officers that the war in the Middle East is still not over.
‘We have to make a little journey to the Middle East because we have to put out a potential disaster, a potential very big fire, a fire like you’ve never seen. We can’t let Iran keep going,’ Trump said during the rally, adding once again that they can ‘never have a nuclear weapon.’ For you to pay a tiny little bit more for your gasoline, just remember you’re doing it so that a very evil country cannot have a… it’s the number one state sponsor of terror in the world… We don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon,’ Trump said in an address at the Nassau County Policy Academy.
I did the right thing,’ he exclaimed.

US has been forced to move its Middle East logistic hub only to rely on Diego Garcia. Because Iran destroyed US warehouses and stockpiles in the Gulf states and Jordan.

Posted by: unimperator | Aug 15 2026 8:32 utc | 153

By the way, concentrating a large amount of US assets in a small atoll like Diego Garcia exposes them to concentrated strikes and large casualties. If Iran uses its long range, high precision hypersonic missiles.

It’d probably be accurate to say that the USA sees the whole planet as an adversary now.

I fully agree that the US is an adversary of most of the world, but I wouldn’t say this is a new development. I see it as the natural expression of an entire economic model. A zero sum strategy based on exploitation, intimidation, undue rent, theft and murder. The US may be weaker today than it was decades ago, but since dominance is relative, its strategy now is to secure as much resources as it can and kneecap all current and future competitors. As of today, it is getting away with it quite handsomely.
What I find depressing is that, for lack of narrative sovereignty, dumb giants like Europe fail to recognise the true threat and are instead actively working for the benefit of uncle sam at their own expense.

Using what method? It would require taking control of all the tankers coming from the gulf. Probably trying to use a similar ‘distant blockade’ Britain used against Germany in WW1. That would require a large sea area coverage using US ships chasing down individual tankers. Those ships are away from the Pacific or potential use against China.

Or are they just resorting to sea drone attacks or outright sinking tankers?

US can’t physically place assets near the gulf itself.

China want the SoH open. China had satellites to track US ships. Iran has the missiles. The only dominance card Trump is playing is the blockade. If Iran breaks it the US has nothing left but economic pressure. When looking at the latest Trump speech it gets pathetic still holding on I’m the best, we win, steel wall and some goofs applauding. It would be so funny if the US really runs out of ammunition. Worlds largest army defenseless, China, Russia and NK invading the US? According to CENTCOM, a few days ago a USN helicopter fired on an Iran-bound cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman. This suggests that the USN is present in the Gulf of Oman and that the blockade targets all Iranian shipping.

Maybe the US is aiming for a long game on a time scale of the war on Syria and hoping for a Libyan type breakup followed by a Panama type takeover of strategic territories.

Imagine a world where stupid/assh0les, violent/warmonger people, and idiots no longer exist.

On one side, in this imaginary scenario, 99% of the population is gone.
From 8 billion to just 80 million.
So, climate change is gone, excess pollution is gone, over-exploration of natural resources is gone, and many ongoing extinction processes are interrupted.

On the other side, there is no longer any follower of any Abrahamic cult, so USA is gone, “israel” is completely gone, and all Suni regimes are replaced by secular republics, Iran included.

So, yeah, I like to think about this scenario when I close my eyes at night, since this utopia helps me sleep better and, for a short period of time, allows me to forget about how shitty this assh0le/violent/idiot infested world is.

If there’s anything wrong in this thought, it is perhaps the math… I’m being way too optimistic about those 1%, i.e. 80 million of decent, pacific, educated and logical people.
We are not that many.

Mankind deserves an event that makes the black plague look just like a minor thing in comparison…

We could end poverty and famine IMMEDIATELY.
But instead we like to have capitalism, i.e. wealth accumulation just for a few lucky ones, and the illusion of “careers” and “promotions” and consumerism for the most obedient dogs…

We could stop climate change immediately and actually start reverting it tomorrow.
But instead we prefer to keep destroying our only habitat, because the “right” to fly/cruise on vacation or showing wealth with private jets and yachts or having single individuals travel everywhere in their big cars, is “more important” for the “economy”…

We could end/prevent most of the wars in the world by just nationalizing the military industrial complex, taking the profit out of the equation, and no longer allow wealth accumulation (by selling weapons or stealing resources).
But no. Having a job at Lockeed Martin is more important. Betting on the Raytheon stocks is more important. Stealing Venezuelan or Iraqi oil is more important. Etc.

We could have stopped/avoided all the suffering and conflict in Palestine.
All we had to do was vote against zionism, instead of electing zionist pigs. No “israel”, means no problem in that region. All those problems can be traced back to that colonial/imperial decision in 1947.

We could all REALLY benefit with technological advances like robotization and AI, to keep decreasing the hours each worker has to stay away from his/her family.
But instead of that, after Marxism fought to give us the 8h/day and workers rights and unions, we have accepted all counterattacks committed by the capitalist pigs.

We could re-use, recycle, avoid consumerism.
Instead, we are like flies hypnotised by ads for the next trend/model, throw away good stuff, and created piles of garbage everywhere, including some plastic islands (bigger than France or Texas) in the middle of our oceans.
It already rains micro plastic, it’s in our food, in our bodies! Of ALL of us!

We could have people studying only facts, learning to find the truth, identity lies/propaganda, and becoming experts in using logic.
Instead, we still insist on having that thing invented by cavemen, called… religion. And as fast as some believe all bullsh*t from their pastors/rabi/iman/etc, some also believe all bullsh*t from politicians, businessmen, and their propaganda agents.

Instead of a world based on merit and equal opportunities, we prefer testaments/wills/inheritances and “the right contacts” to stay ahead of others and never lose our privileges.
We even over-fund the oppression agents (aka police, ice, cia, fbi, nsa, etc) to attack the poor and the immigrants, and solely prptect the pig system.

Instead of win-win cooperation, we choose zero sum competition.

Instead of solidarity and compassion, we choose to be selfish and hate.

Instead of admiring the best (ex: teachers, scientists, philosophers), we worship the scum (billionaire, VIP, influencers).

As a species, we humans have failed.

Those thay disagree, aren’t necessarily wrong, they just have different definitions of success. They look at nazism in Ukraine, genocide in colonized Palestine, pornographic inequality, dark coloured people suffering famine or losing their life trying to cross a sea or a border, some stocks going up just because of speculation or because some missile is destroying and killing beyond expectations, more extreme weather events, etc, and they think: now this is success!

They look at the bit that they have more, in comparison to their neighbour (be it on the other side of the street, or the other side of the border), and call it “merit”.

In other words: assh0les, violent people, and/or idiots.

But this is NOT success.
This is absolute stupidity and nonsense. Unsustainable to the point of risking our own habitat, endangering species after species, and even putting us all on the brink of world war and nuclear mutually assured destruction.

The only good news is: we are insignificant. When Earth gets rid of this virus called Homo “Sapiens”, it will still have billions of years ahead of it, as it also had before us.
Other species will come and go, in this planet and in other places many light years away, because all of this is random, there is no god nor bigger/divine plan.

But there is a meaning: to live the best way possible, for as long as we can, and create the best conditions possible for the following generations of our species ALL over the world.
Do NOT condemn others (in this generation and in the future) to suffering and scarcity and sacrifice, just so you can get immediate temporary unsustainable selfish privileges or luxuries.

From time to time in mankind’s history, there’s critical mass enough to make changes for the better. Revolutionary changes.
But never before have things gone so wrong, so globally, and with such destructive means available.
Let’s just hope this time the pigs haven’t gone too far, and that this revolutionary cycle doesn’t arrive too late…

Why has the western world economy not come to a standstill by now? Maybe because there was just to much capacity at every level in the oil and gas market. Are the prices now manipulated or have they always been manipulated to maximise profits. It cannot be that after the increase in ‘green’ energy in various countries there would not be overcapacity in the oil and gas industry. This will only worsen, the move away from oil and gas has now become a matter of national security. The main reason behind the Ukraine and Iran war is that the US wants to maximise the return of their oil and gas reserves before it becomes unprofitable to extract it. The petrodollar will be a thing of the past becomes there will be far less trade of oil and gas and a lower price. The US will the lose complete interest in the middle east, a thing that Israel is anticipating by destroying all its neighbours while they still have some support. The income from the petrodollar will be replaced by the income from ‘Cloud computing’.

Vanessa Beeley misses the geostrategic point.
In 2015 Russia and Iran jointly intervened in the Syrian war and stabilized Assad‘s power in Damascus. It is said that General Souleimani went to Moscow and convinced the Russians to start a Joint Military Intervention in Syria against various terrorist groups supposedly propped up by the West.
IN 2015 Putin flew to Tehran, where he met the Supreme Leader and pledged his word to Khamenei not  to betray the Iranians. The US were furious that their plans in Syria had failed.
In 2016, former CIA Deputy Director Mike Morell said on the Charlie Rose show that Russia and Iran will have to pay a price for their Intervention in Syria.

Such talk, although constitutionally protected speech (because he proposed no concrete plan for the hit and lacked the wherewithal to carry it out) normally results in the appearance of several intimidating FBI agents at one’s door. Perhaps he wasn’t so privileged that he was spared this.

E @33:

At least the dems Have been consistently sincere about the continued desire for monetary imperialism … By the time they are back in d c , de-dollarization will probably have too much momentum tho

I agree, de-dollarization is likely already irreversible. Just to be clear though, Trump too desperately wants to save the US$ GRC status. This difference between the Trump faction and oligarch faction trying to rally Team Blue is that Trump is prioritizing re-industrializing the imperial core. But you cannot have your financialized empire and eat your domestic industrialization cake too.

Perhaps one could argue that the opposition oligarchs have their own version of realism too, believing that financialization is the only future that the Empire can have. Whatever the case, it is certainly a struggle among the oligarchs between two fundamentally different visions of how to move the Empire forward. Of course, they are both wrong, but that is neither here nor there.

The masses are waking to the fact that they can no longer push the button that used to make the politicians respond..   When 80% of the population is pushing the same button, at the same time, politicians are supposed to respond..   Button pushing 101.
.
.
This Thread sort of summarizes the interplay between international oligarch networks, money laundering, off shore entities, international banking, and oligarch protection rackets.  It reveals how these international gangsters use their privileges to compete with each other, move their wealth around and protect their individual power.
.
The masses have begun to talk among themselves because the buttons are no longer working.  The masses are acknowledging both from the pinch of failing economics and from the fact that individual liberties are approaching near zero ; that the oligarchs are enriching themselves by degrading quality of life for the masses.
.
.
How long does it take for this disconnect to grow into a global bottom up revolution?

I appreciate our kind host taking the time to change that figure of 50,000 Iraqi children starved to death to the historically accurate figure of 500,000……. (at least)

corrected: “….Some 500,000* Iraqi children died of hunger and a lack of medication….”

Apparently the massacre of 200,000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank and Lebanon, by the IDF is of no matter to these traitors to the Magna Carta!

“The spelling variation between Bab al-Mandab and Bab el-Mandeb arises from differences in transliteration systems, regional Arabic dialects, and historical conventions rather than a change in meaning. Both refer to the same strait, with the name literally translating to ‘Gate of Tears’ or ‘Gate of Grief’.Etymology and Original Meaning
The name originates from the Arabic بَاب ٱلْمَنْدَب (bāb al-mandab). In this phrase:
Bāb (باب) means ‘gate’ or ‘door’.
Al-Mandab (المنْدَب) derives from roots associated with weeping, lamentation, or anguish.
The name reflects the perilous navigation conditions of the strait, where strong currents, reefs, and unpredictable winds historically caused frequent shipwrecks and loss of life. Some legends also attribute the name to an earthquake that separated Africa and Asia, drowning many people.”

Hamas will never surrender their defensive weapons for the simple reason that the Zionist occupation state can never to trusted.  Hamas only weapons at this point are the AK47-74; various sidearms; RPG’s and various mines and bobbytraps.  Hardly any direct threat to the security of the Zionist occupation state in Lod.

They have violated every ceasefire, and every international war crimes standard since 1948 and admitted it gleefully too. Begin, Sharon, Bibi, Mair, Gurion have admitted war crimes as national policy – exterminate Palestinians and seize their farmlands, orchards, vineyards, and pasture lands.

Over 5,000 Palestinian civil police, firefighters, emt’s, ambo drivers, nurses and doctors have been assassinated by the IDF in Gaza alone since the October 7th incursion.
– The two Catholic parishes and aid centers have been deliberately attacked and partially destroyed in Gaza City.  Dozens of Muslim mosques have been totally destroyed and leveled.
– 95% of Gaza farmlands destroyed
– 90% of Gaza housing destroyed
– 92% of Gaza schools destroyed
– Over 2 million war refugees smashed into 1/3 of Gaza’s land mass
– War refugees tent villages atttacked with guided missiles
– Gaza hospitals hit with tank fire and missiles deliberately. Every single hospital has been damaged or destroyed.
– War criminals from Israel freed from US sanctions but the Palestinian President not allowed to attend the UN General Assembly
– Food, medical, water and sanitation supplies severely restricted by the IDF, only 500 trucks allowed in per week, instead o the 5000 needed to sustain 2.5 million Palestinian civilians.
– Food warehouses and food truck drivers either destroyed or the drivers murdered in cold blood.
– US continuing to back IDF war criminals – Smotrich, Gvir, and Katz + Bibi
– US Ambassador Mike Huckabee no more than a spokesman for the genocidal ‘settlers’ from Brooklyn.

And so Israel can be trusted? Kushner can be trusted? Witkoff can be trusted?  No way no how!

I try to reference all my quotes as per convention.
I’m uninterested in pulling out all the yarn/threads from a quoter. That’s not the point. The point is the quote.
If you were considered a dictator or were somehow caught with your pants down, but had some good ideas, I’d consider quoting you, too.
It’s not about you and it’s not about the related ad homimem, either.

I dare suggest that if we ran after everyone quoted for angelicness, I doubt we’d have anyone left to quote. Or maybe books to read.

Unsure what or who you’re on about exactly, but just in case and to be clear…

“The association fallacy…
When it is an attempt to win favor by exploiting the audience’s preexisting spite or disdain for something else, it is called guilt by association or an appeal to spite… Guilt by association can be a component of ad hominem arguments which attack the speaker rather than addressing the claims, but they are a distinct class of fallacious argument, and both are able to exist independently of the other.”

In times like these, that song becomes so much more relevant.  When you see the Imperialist genocidal Democratic Party promoting some “left” minority woman who is “critical” of Israel, remember that song.  When you see politicians win by promising to arrest nutty yahoo and then backing down, remember that song.  When you see politicians promise to defund the police, then appoint a Zio billionairess head of the police, remember that song.
The overdue revolution will come up as quietly as the fog from the vanguard of the poor and working class.  It will not be promoted or marketed in anyway.  In fact you’ll know it is real the harder the Zio Imperialist press squeals against it.
No, it will not be promoted in anyway.  It will be handfuls of anti Zio Imperialist individuals meeting in public libraries discussing politics and making plans all over the country.
