War On Iran: – IRGC Defeats U.S. Strait Clearing Scheme

Last Friday, August 28, the U.S. Central Command claimed to have removed all sea mines from the Strait of Hormuz:

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that U.S. forces have cleared Iranian sea mines from the internationally recognized shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the routes are now open to commercial shipping.

The announcement follows earlier statements by President Donald Trump that U.S. forces had removed or detonated mines in international waters in the strait. Cooper’s latest video provides CENTCOM’s formal operational confirmation that the Traffic Separation Scheme has been cleared.

From the position of the U.S. this was, of course, good news.

There was the slight problem that no one believed it:

U.S. allies have privately assessed that some mines may not have been cleared. Earlier estimates from the International Maritime Organization and industry groups placed the number of mines in the historic shipping lanes at around 80, with some assessments higher.

Allied officials have also warned that sea currents can move mines and that residual risks could remain outside the main monitored lanes.

The International Maritime Organization and maritime information centers continue to advise vessels to exercise maximum caution in the area. Shipping companies and insurers are also conducting their own risk assessments.

Iran continued to warn ships to not use any routes besides the one’s designated by it.

(However, there has been no evidence yet that any mines had indeed been laid.)

On Sunday Iran said that the U.S. had attacked Iranian military positions on the island of Larak which sits in the northern edge of the Strait of Hormuz. This was the first attack after a month of relative peace. The strike resulted in the death and injury of several Iranian servicemen.

CentCom later confirmed the strike:

U.S. forces attacked two Iranian rocket launchers on an island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), marking the first publicly confirmed strike on Iran in weeks.

In a statement to TIME, CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins confirmed the strikes on the launchers on Larak Island, adding that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces “were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines” into the strait.

Iran has Fajr-5 missiles which can lay mines up to a 100 kilometer distance. Fired from Larak the mines can be deployed all over the Strait and up the western and eastern coast of the UAE.

The Iranian Republican Guards Corp (IRGC) promised revenge for the U.S. strike. Within a few hours it launched missiles at U.S. bases in Jordan:

In a statement issued on Monday morning, the IRGC said a combined missile and drone operation, codenamed “Punishment of the Aggressor,” targeted the King Hussein and Al-Azraq military bases hosting US forces.

The operation hit “technical and repair infrastructure, as well as the enemy fighter deployment sites,” inflicting significant damage on the aggressor’s military assets.

Video from Jordan showed the launch of several air defense missiles. There are no reports yet of impacts from the Iranian strikes.

An additional Iranian response was launched with drones targeting U.S. positions in the United Arab Emirates:

The army said in a statement on Monday morning that the attack involved dozens of suicide drones, and struck locations housing US military helicopters and personnel at al-Minhad Air Base, located approximately 24 kilometers (15 miles) south of Dubai.

The UAE said its air defenses engaged some drones but gave no information of the results or impacts.

Iran then announced a third strike against U.S. assets:

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says its air defense forces have shot down a US MQ-9 long-range unmanned aerial vehicle over the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on Monday, the IRGC said the drone was struck by missile fire from the force’s modern air defense units and crashed into the waters of the Persian Gulf.

In total more than 50 MQ-9 drones, at a price of $30 million each, have been shot down by Iran during the conflict.

Three strikes against U.S. positions and assets is a intentionally disproportional response for the U.S. strike.

In an additional announcement the Islamic Republic reported that a supertanker in the Strait had hit two mines:

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Navy says a rogue supertanker attempting to navigate an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz struck two sea mines, triggering massive fires on board the vessel and bringing it to a complete stop.

In a statement issued on Monday, the IRGC Navy said the tanker had attempted to pass through a route not authorized under the Islamic Republic’s maritime security regulations.

While the damage of the ship has yet to be confirmed by independent sources it is reasonable to assume that the Iranian official statement is true.

The CentCom scheme of declaring all mines cleared to reopen the Strait has thus been defeated.

It is obviously still Iran which has the total control over the Strait.

While some tankers carrying oil are allowed to slip through, rumors have it that some of these are also carrying Iranian oil and are thus defeating the blockade of Iran which the U.S. imposed.

As the consequence of the above skirmishes Brent crude oil prices rose 2%.

Meanwhile the U.S. military continues to ‘leak’ reports to the press which condemn the whole Iran operation:

Several U.S. military leaders have advised Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that prolonging large-scale operations against Iran is unsustainable and risks weakening their ability to confront threats elsewhere, including the U.S. homeland, according to people familiar with a recent assessment prepared for the Pentagon chief.

The warnings — detailed for Hegseth by the heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force and the four-star commanders overseeing U.S. operations throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America — appear in the Aug. 14 edition of the Secretary of Defense Orders Book (SDOB), these people said. They described the assessment to The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity because the document is classified.

This leaks come after others claiming a lack of ammunition and discomfort with the long deployment of U.S. assets.

It is obvious that the bowels of the Pentagon are quite uncomfortable with its head’s decisions.

“Well, they’d probably have to start with testing first”

Figure testing ended because they had acquired all the knowledge needed.

“If even peaceful testing is considered taboo…”

…because it is unescessary. It also slows proliferation. Didn’t ever see a public vote on that either, but do know there are portions of any population, particularly US, who do not see it as taboo.

Genocide is taboo also, but apparently only when questionable.

Nor can I, malenkov!  Keep looking!  Keep thinking!  That has been my path — you are on the right track!  Above all, don’t lie to yourself — keep on keeping on!  Here’s what Dostoievski wrote to a friend about his The Brothers Karamazov:

“…   I had a plan of giving an answer to this atheistic side of my work [Grand Inquisitor] in Book Seven, with the title “A Russian Monk”.  Now I am afraid that this answer will not be sufficient, particularly as it does not refute the objections that are raised in ‘the Grand Inquisitor’ and earlier in the work point by point, but merely constitutes an indirect reply.  It manifests itself as a world outlook that stands diametrically opposed to those postulates, not point by point, but as an artistic portrait…”

Ah, but that IS the point.  And the answer to it is in another observation he made — I don’t have the detail of when and where and to whom it was said:-

Let the readers do some of the work themselves.

🙂 Perhaps I misunderstood and this strike is the Trump President brain and the Hegseth Pentagon bowels voiding themselves upon the Iran opposing body in a fit of pique. Pooping in instinctual reaction upon what scares and vexes you makes sense to me. But then I usually fly away because I expect retaliation, even if it’s a seemingly inanimate object, just in case.

🙁 But I don’t think USrael can metaphorically fly away from the consequences of their instinctual reaction the same way.

🙂 I’m beginning to feel like a Human-Whisperer. Though I’d recommend leaders more in control of themselves than us bird brains in the future. Since Iran’s leaders seem more in control of themselves, I’d expect Iran to give a solid thrashing while still maintaining its submission hold. And unfortunately expect more shit splashing from Trump, Hegseth, Rubio, Bessent, and show as the submission hold continues.

because it is unescessary. It also slows proliferation. Didn’t ever see a public vote on that either, but do know there are portions of any population, particularly US, who do not see it as taboo.

No, because norms have changed. Maybe you’re young and/or don’t know much history, but towards the end of the Cold War (1980s-early 1990s) there was a big nuclear freeze movement, which culminated in the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. While the treaty is not in force, since its introduction no established nuclear power has conducted a test. States have followed this practice since, and even North Korea has stopped testing.

You’re French correct, tell me what the public reaction was to the last time France conducted nuclear tests under Chirac? Polls have routinely shown wide public opposition to nuclear testing, even to nuclear waste dumping, in the US, France, UK, and other states. Public vote? Come on, be serious. No referendum has been conducted because policymakers know the outcome.

Some sort of proof is needed, besides your unreliable memory. The last official UK nuclear testing was in 1991. All recent testing was done underground in Nevada. The last open-air test was in 1958. The UK has also ratified the Nuclear-test-ban treaty, so they’d have to work around that.

Can’t speak for the OP, but I doubt that was the original point. The point is that Johnson is a raving “Christian” lunatic who openly and legally opposes the right of adults to engage in consensual sexual activities of certain types, including sodomy (such an outdated word), but like many conservatives and US Republicans he’s a total ass-fuckin’ hypocrite about it since he personally almost assuredly loves male-on-male sodomy or sodomy with young females. So you have to consider the whole context. Which isn’t to say that one would be equally stupid for opposing sodomy among consenting persons of legal age coming from a person who doesn’t actually like or partake in it – at least in a “liberal democracy” with a Bill of Rights including right to privacy.

But seriously, do you really feel the need to “educate” or “chastise” anyone who doesn’t immediately espouse opinions that don’t instantly line up with your own deap seated sensitivities and proclivities?

“Test-fired missiles are not armed with their nuclear warheads.” That is not a nuclear test, that is in fact a missile test.

Nuclear: being a weapon whose destructive power derives from an uncontrolled nuclear reaction.

(2): of, produced by, or involving nuclear weapons

(3): armed with nuclear weapons

Ballistic Missile: a usually rocket-powered missile that is launched in a high arc under guidance for its ascent but that is unpowered and unguided once it begins its descent.

So, in fact, necromancer is wrong. The last nuclear test conducted by the UK was in 1991, under US auspices. But now, they can’t even get the missiles to work.

Posted by: James M. | Sep 2 2026 5:55 utc | 430

The target of the Iranian missile barrage against Jordan turned out to be Camp Titin, a small base that houses U.S. Marine Corps in the very south of Jordan. It’s the first time Iran targets the base.

Why is Camp Titin so important?

Geographically, the location of Camp Titin is very important, as it is situated at the northern end of the Red Sea, near the port of Aqaba, the Israeli port of Eilat, and a relatively short distance from the Saudi Arabian border. For this reason, it is suitable for U.S. Marine Corps exercises, protection of naval infrastructure, amphibious operations, and the transfer of equipment.

Official U.S. Navy sources have also recorded FASTCENT, a U.S. Marine rapid-reaction unit, conducting exercises at this camp. The base is particularly valuable for Marines and rapid-deployment operations.

It was reported that the targeted Camp Titin is located at a strategically important location at the northern tip of the Red Sea, near the port of Aqaba and the Israeli port of Eilat. At 21:31, it was reported that the camp is located a short distance from the Saudi border and is suitable for U.S. Marine training and the protection of naval infrastructure.

It was further reported that the Americans had attempted to deploy part of their forces at Titin, hoping that Iran did not have complete information about their presence.

Norms have changed since then. Precedence has been established and will be hard to undo. People don’t worry about testing now because it isn’t happening. But protests did occur up through the 1990s, until the testing stopped.

The Nevada Testing Site basically runs simulations now. Even the disposal of nuclear waste is highly controversial in the US. So no, I don’t think there will be any return to nuclear testing, let alone outright usage of nuclear weapons.

And yet the approval / disapproval ratings won’t matter a bit. In the 5-10 states that decide every election (Presidential) and in the places where there’s a “shot” that Democrats could take House or particularly Senate seat (popular vote in states) too many voters or would-be voters are like the types you encounter around here. The kind of people who INSIST that Kopmala would have also started the war on Iran despite all evidence to the contrary (not ruling out “Israeli” false flag here; just SOP for the Obama wing of Dems) are too caught up on Idpol and “Woke” wars and will just stay home rather than vote for hated Democrats in state, local and legislative races (I would never vote “D” for President, to be fair).

Either way, I doubt it makes a difference at all for those reasons and because Trumpstein and the GOP are busy tampering with elections as we speak and there will probably STILL be some kind of false flag or excuse to clamp down on the mid-terms.

And finally, even if the Democraps take both houses of Congress, does anyone really think they’d investigate or impeach Trumpstein or his Regime mates for material and actually evil actions? Nah, they’d plant another CIA mole in the WH and impeach him for witholding arms to the Ukronazis or Zionist filth in “Israel.”

And since it’s late at night on an older thread, with a new Iran thread surely coming soon, let’s further dissect this nonsense.

What really makes the bar stink to high heaven? a) A probably innocuous implied context laden comment about how an American politician purveyor of hypocritical homophobia is….a hypocrite and likely gay or a pervert himself or b) the ongoing semi-flame war that results from constant bickering hall-monitoring unneccessary “retorts” from ‘concerned’ commenters anxious to police the tone and substance of the bar?

This is actually important. I don’t mind at all if b deletes all of our comments on the subject, but I didn’t want to let this sneaky sub-topic go unanswered. You’re engaging in thread ruination by making comments such as the one we’re discussing now. You aren’t in the position to arbitrate what the mood, tone, or content of discussion is at this or any real life bar. Yet time and time again this is the type of meta-commentary you engage in. Thankfully nobody else G’sAF to engage this one-on-one discussion, but don’t think it isn’t obvious to people what you’re doing. It’s a form of cognitive dissonance injection and projection.  As if you either 1) have been an important contributor long enough to justify some purity policing on minor, off-topic comments or b) haven’t yourself been tempo-banned for doing just that which always leads to thread jacking.

It is as much as begging the IRGC to escalate even more: we’re almost tapped out, how’s about we both take a breather, heh?

The first-day attack on an elementary school that killed about 160 children and their teachers was deliberate mass murder (regardless of the ages of the victims) and certainly deserves justice for the perpetrators, by which I mean a death penalty for everyone giving or obeying the orders, be they American or Israeli. But since one report of this recent event from a non-western source said that “shrapnel” from the explosion hit the building where the wedding was being held, and since there were only four deaths among all of those at the wedding, and given the claims that the U.S. is running out of missiles, I have to be fair about it and remain extremely skeptical that the wedding itself was the target. While tragic and condemnable, this doesn’t sound like the same degree of evil demonstrated by the U.S. military numerous previous times.

The playbook in the west is probably to cap interest rates of government bonds while flooding the market with new debt and money.

That will result in crushing real yields (currency value) and boost commodities, especially ones the west doesn’t possess domestically even more and have to be imported using its weakening currency.

Iran – Summary after 7 months
I thinks this is one of the most important periods of the military history.

Posted by: Stephan | Sep 2 2026 10:26 utc | 468

10 year bond rates:  I checked out a 5 year graph.   https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/US10Y     Notable data points:

In the last months of 2021, before Joe Biden made his bold move to send his West Ukrainian army into East Ukraine to kill Russian speaking Ukrainians (now they are called Russian speaking RUSSIANS), the 10 year bond hovered between about 1.5% and 2.0%.  02/28/2002 – 1.72%

It then increased dramatically and steadily (of course with standard dips now and again for profit taking) until it hit:  06/13/2002 – 3.24% and 10/17/2022 – 4.21%.  In the first 8 months of the Ukrainian SMO, the 10 year bonds went from mostly under 2% to mostly over 4%.

It hit a high of 4.92% on 10/16/2023.  It has had its peaks and valleys since then, with a notable behavior being that the valleys don’t dip so low any more.  Right now it has been in a consistent uptick from 3.96% on 02/23/2026 to 4.81% on 08/31/2026.

Results:  In 2022, Biden gave what to me was a quite notable speech with regards to sanctions on Russia.  The money line went something like this:

The US will not be affected much by sanctions on Russia.  Europe will face minor issues.  People in the Global South will starve.

He was wrong about sentence 1.  Although much of the problems that the US has inflicted upon itself is more from multiple wars rather than sanctions, the 10 year bond changing from being mostly less than 2% to mostly more than 4% has been a real drain on our economy.

He was wrong about sentence 2.  Europe has taken a big hit from both the Ukrainian SMO AND the sanctions.  The EU was projected to be an industrial world power in the 2000s and 2010s.  No one thinks that anymore.  Europe is also now more hated than admired.

Sentence 3 is classic Joe Biden.  He was Vice President when Obama obliterated Libya and starved the people of Yemen via naval blockades, and as President was fully supportive of the US/Israeli attempts to kill every Palestinian that refused to flee Palestine.

The 10 year going from below 2% to close to 5% cratering the US economy?  Biden did that.  Trump, of course, is working hard to continue the hard work that his good friend Joe Biden put into making this a reality.

“Taqiyya is a concept in Islam that allows Muslims, particularly Shia, to conceal their faith or religious identity when facing threats of persecution or danger to their lives. “

I understand that.
But I wasn’t referring to Islam at all.
Rather, to another religion that claims anything, even the worst acts, is permissible against those who do not share that faith.

I do not believe the Iranian negotiators working on the memorandum of understanding with the Americans were trying to hide their religion out of fear for their lives.

And I do not believe the American elected official, that inveterate liar, who made that comment was involved in the negotiations in any way.

He doesn’t even know what happened, yet he lies. Since the start of this conflict, it has been clear who is lying, over and over again. Why?

Your opinions and beliefs (or lack thereof) are entirely valid, especially given your personal background and experiences.

The mistake lies in trying to spread them and generalize them to people who do not share that same personal background or thinking.

Or, for that matter, in trying to ridicule others’ opinions within a diverse group where you cannot be certain your view represents the majority.

This is an area where no one can prove anything to anyone else using definitive arguments that others will accept.

I have therefore made it a habit not to discuss these matters.
It saves time and helps maintain a certain level of courtesy in exchanges.

“he is moved on from a place of asking tough questions to holding to a tough opinion.. maybe you see it differently..”

I agree, just the interpretation of why so is not obvious to me.

Ultimately it can be taken as overstepping Russian sovereignty of decision, but it can also be read as concern or frustration.

For example, he might consider Russian direction as detrimental to positive US evolution. Though you (or Russia) might not agree with any concession to US with regard, PCR might be looking at a different picture with relations as good or reasonable.

For someone hoping for that, they are not going to like the current direction, nor one side nor the other.

Just an example, and I don’t guess his intent, only allow for a human or alternative margin to it all.

People’s views will go with their own experience and senses though, so there is quite a lot of subjectivity possible, interpretation is often not straightforward to some yet to others will seem obvious.

For example one might see a moral conservative, another will just see moral, another will just see conservative, and with all the implications and differences any of those would carry.

I guess would have to challenge him in conversation to have more of an idea.

@415 James M.

“You still have to test weapons systems to make sure they work, at the least”

The previous testing verified they worked, but for maintenance of a nuclear weapon I think the teams working on that will be very skilled.

Testing was unescessary …

“No, because norms have changed”

Objection was to needlessly detonating nuclear weapons continuously, it was seen as unescessary by the public.

It was obvious, nuclear stockpile is not obvious though.

Look at abandonment of recent treaties, no-one says anything.

I’m British, but have lived in France. I know what you are saying about popular sentiment. Popular sentiment is stretched now though, between a hundred causes and disillusion. The public have become weak, protest is drowned amongst a hundred other similar, often only occuring at scale when given a nod by governments.

“Public vote? Come on, be serious. No referendum has been conducted because policymakers know the outcome”

Which adds up to it being a government decision only, there is no ststutory evidence of public contest, and so is a decision that can be revoked.

Equally, the use of nuclear weapons WW2 has not been contested by western public, future use might not be either.

I’m showing the chinks in the armour, not saying that the public are for use. There are some public who would support use though, and many who would be indifferent.

What the french or europeans or chinese think vs what the US actually does, is something very different also.

Yes, they still happen even during wars. And No, so what?

1. “We have a few of these million-dollar missiles left, what should we hit?” “How about this wedding that’s currently going on?” “How do you even know that’s a wedding? Never mind, fire away.” “Damn, it missed and only threw some shrapnel their way, it only killed four, according to their own reports.” “I was hoping for a hundred. Report the inaccuracy up the chain of command.”

2. “They blew up our [insert military target here], but the shrapnel from the explosion also hit a wedding a block away, and killed four people.” “Blame that on them, pretend that was their real target, but don’t mention the actual target.” “Are people going to believe they deliberately targeted a wedding and only killed four people?” “Not if they think about it, but we don’t care what smart people think, there aren’t that many of them.”

Take your pick; I’ve chosen mine,

“People’s views” also includes our own (in fact was meant that way), which is another layer of uncertainty to it all, at least when we allow a certain amount of self criticism or evaluation to enter the equation.

Not easy at all, but rewarding in the way it can open horizons, or recenter and unconfuse what would otherwise seem impossible to reason.

The one-story building looks like a missile blew through the roof. The two-story building with fancy windows that looks like a place you’d have a wedding looks like it was hit by shrapnel from the first building. I don’t see any indication in that three-second clip of there being a wedding in the building with a hole in the roof. And it was a non-western source (probably rt.com?) that first used the word.

Remember what I told you : MOA was DOA … as if they wanted the strait to stay closed to begin with.
Now ask yourself why would an US president could want a big price hike on oil a month before an election ?
It makes me think about a rap tune : “Applaud me or you’ll fall from the balcony , it would be you first suicide …”

US oil companies are exporting 1.7 million barrels diesel a day at good margins.  That keeps diesel in U.S. near $6 per gallon.

On the war front has killing a wedding party satisfied TACO?

IMO:

Besides obvious Hormuz control & global economy,  what concerns USReal the most is:
The 400 kilograms of enriched uranium.

Where is it?  What’s been done with it?  Is there more?

Russia/China/Pakistan/Qatar—- not one of them knows or can find out.  The US tasked Russia to secure/locate it (although months ago refused Russias help in “negotiations”, then Trump made an idiotic play to secure it).

The only reason,  atm,  they may not consider a “limited tactical nuke strike” is that they are wholly uncertain whether or not Iran has nukes themselves.  Other than that,  as written into the new U.S. nuclear first strike doctrine,  even “cybersecurity attacks” can constitute first nuclear use.

They are trying again, internationally:

“UN faces contentious Iran nuclear vote ahead of General Assembly”
Sept 1 (Reuters) -“ France said on Tuesday the U.N. Security Council will vote this month on renewing the mandate of a panel monitoring sanctions on Iran, setting up a ‌potential showdown with Russia and China, which oppose the sanctions regime and oversight mechanisms.”
“The mandate of the ‌panel, which supports the work of the U.N. sanctions committee on Iran, is due to expire on September 26, during the annual meeting of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly. The U.S.-Israeli war with Iran is expected to top the agenda“

“U.N. diplomats said the vote is expected on September 17.”
“Diplomats say a vote raises the prospect of vetoes by both Russia and China, which argue that the Security Council no longer has a mandate to consider the Iranian nuclear issue.”

And on cue,  Grossing IEAE comes out of his hidey hole:

“IAEA calls for access to Iran nuclear sites over proliferation concerns”
“UN watchdog says lack of information and access to facilities to verify Iran’s nuclear material is a proliferation concern.”

“By AFP and Reuters

Published On 1 Sep 20261 Sep 2026

”The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called for “utmost urgency” to address the lack of access to Iran’s nuclear sites.”

”In a quarterly report seen by news agencies on Tuesday, the United Nations nuclear watchdog labelled its “lack of information about this nuclear material and access to facilities to verify it is a matter of proliferation concern”.

Iran conventionally,  can destroy the entire ME,  however,  US/USReal cannot conventionally  destroy Iran.

Where is and what happened to material?

Its a pickle…

Via Tabz https://t.me/s/tabzlive

– Germany approved nearly €800 million ($930 million) in military equipment exports to Israel during the first half of 2026.

The value of export licenses issued between January and June was more than four times the total approved for Israel throughout 2025

– The German Navy successfully tested the Israeli LORA short-range ballistic missile on Tuesday night in the North Atlantic and will now move forward with plans to procure the missiles.

The missile manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries has a range of up to 400 km and an accuracy of around 10 meters.

@496 Trubind1

This week they have been bringing out various related stories. Firstly was that there is a second undiscovered to now underground nuclear site in Iran , and now this on Syria:

“A confidential U.N. report says Syria was secretly constructing a nuclear reactor in Deir el-Zour under ousted President Bashar Assad, according to AP.

IAEA inspectors visited several Syrian sites in August and confirmed the existence of the long-suspected nuclear facilities.

The agency said it was “able to establish” that Assad’s government failed to declare nuclear material, facilities, and activities as required under the NPT Safeguards Agreement.

The sites visited by the agency included a reactor under construction at Deir ez-Zor, a fuel fabrication plant, and another facility used to store nuclear fuel” Tabz
