War On Iran: – Iran’s Advantage

The government of Iran under President Masoud Pezeshkian is in a difficult position. The war the U.S., Israel, and their proxies are waging against the country has created huge damage. The local economy suffered. The blockade the U.S. enacts against Iran has blocked its oil sales.

There is little chance for the Iranian government to solve the problems by its own interior measures. From a short term utilitarian standpoint it would make sense for it to file for peace.

But unlike other heads of governments the President of Iran does not have full control over war and peace. That is job of the Supreme National Security Council, which includes the president, but also the military and intelligence leadership as well as representatives of the leader who has a veto over its decisions. The councils considerations are long term and focused on the country’s independence. Economic issues take second place.

Pezeshkian’s calls for peace negotiations must thus be seen as internal lobbying:

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Friday it was time to end the months-long Middle East war with the United States because Tehran was in a position of strength over Washington.

“It is better that we bring the war to an end now as we are in a position of power and dignity,” Pezeshkian said in a meeting with doctors.

“The whole world acknowledges our victory and emphasizes that America has attacked our schools, hospitals and infrastructure in violation of all regulations and is hated around the world.”

Pezeshkian was referring to the Memorandum of Understanding which U.S. President Donald Trump signed while immediately disregarding several of its clauses.

The problem with wishing to go back to the MoU is that there is no one on the other side who is willing to do so. The U.S. is still looking for regime change.

While Pezeshkian might want to go back to diplomacy the ‘hardliners’ in the Security Council can rightly point out that there is no one to talk to. There is no off-ramp Iran could take.

The Trump administration seems to believe that there is sufficient oil flowing from the Gulf to support the global economy:

The U.S. military has quietly established a shipping corridor in and out of the Strait of Hormuz to transport millions of barrels of oil each day — a notable success even as the broader war remains at a stalemate, two U.S. officials told Axios.

– Under the operation, which has been underway for the last several weeks, 15–20 tankers have entered and exited the strait each night through a southern channel along the coast of Oman.
– About 10 million barrels of oil a day — roughly half the pre-war volume — are being transported out of the strait and injected into the global energy market, the officials said.

Those claims are of course bollocks as independent sources account:

Kpler assesses three to 12 crossings daily for the last several days, including tankers, bulkers, boxships, and traffic through the Iranian-controlled lane on the north side of the strait – not just oil through the Omani side. The consultancy’s methodology includes SAR satellite radar imaging, making its counting independent of AIS transmissions, which can be easily manipulated.

and:

Seven commodity ships sailed along the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, just half the previous day’s tally, showed ‌data from shiptracker Kpler, …

Of the total, four ships entered and three exited the waterway, … The seven did not include any very large crude carriers or liquefied natural gas tankers.

On top of that three Chinese VLCCs have U-turned in the Strait of Hormuz during the past 48 hours.

Despite those facts the Treasury Secretary (and failed bond trader) Scott Bessent says that he does not understand why oil prices spike.

Bessent was also stupid enough to ask China to join upcoming new sanctions on Iran. His call was promptly rejected:

“Sanctions and pressure will not help resolve the issue,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters at a briefing, urging all relevant parties to take responsible measures and resolve the crisis through political and diplomatic channels.

Bessent’s fevered attempts to find ways to put economic pressure on Iran is telling everyone that the Trump administration does not want to go back to fighting. It wants to keep the blockade on Iran but without further bombing.

Iran can not live with that.

That is why Iran’s Security Council is likely to escalate and to increase its pressure on the U.S.

It can ask its friends in Iraq and Yemen to launch new attacks on U.S. aligned targets. It can seize ships trying to pass the Strait. It can attack U.S. vessels which attempt to enforce the blockade.

Trump is under pressure. The price of oil, gas and diesel will keep rising. Bessent’s failed attempt to intervene in the Treasuries markets demonstrates the administration’s nervousness.

I expect Iran to slowly increase its activities against U.S. targets. These will probably look like pin pricks but they will hurt. It will try to avoid U.S. retaliations and will, for now, avoid more massive measures.

One must remember that this is not the first time Iran had to struggle with hostile economic measures:

Barack Obama @BarackObama – 1:18 UTC · Oct 12, 2012
VP Biden on Iran: “These are the most crippling sanctions in the history of sanctions. Period.”

When Obama tried that Iran did not give in. It was the Obama administration which had to make concessions (Iran was allowed to enrich) to finally get to the nuclear agreement.

Trump will likewise have to find a way out.

Comments

It would appear that Israel, Ukraine and the AngloSaxon countries believe strongly in propaganda vs reality.

And they are not wrong to so do.

The fake transits through the Hormuz Strait is key to suppressing the paper oil price.

Haven’t the Hungarian/ Ukrainian RZN Recidivist Zionist Nazis worked out yet that Babylon #02 is their second Nemesis?
Second verse, same as the first, little bit louder and a little bit worse.

1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion.

2 We hanged our harps  upon the willows in the midst thereof.

3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; And they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4 How shall we sing The LORD’s song in a strange land?

5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget her cunning.

6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth;
If I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Iran lawmaker calls for closure of Tehran’s informal currency markets

Iran must eliminate informal currency trading hubs in Tehran to stabilize the foreign exchange market, a member of parliament’s economic committee said on Sunday.
Rasoul Bakhshidastjerdi also called for decisive action against street currency dealers, describing the measures as key prerequisites for reducing exchange-rate volatility.

Unless there are large internal actors working against the nation, I don’t expect the volumes of street dealers and informal trading hubs to be significant in relation to global actors and their manipulation in the Foreign Exchange market.

Iran warns UK, France over arming Israeli regime

TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy foreign minister on warned Britain and France that continued arms transfers and any support for Israel constituted deliberate participation in the crimes of the Israeli regime.

Kazem Gharibabadi, deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, wrote on social media that more than 100 senior former British and French diplomats had warned their governments that Israeli policy was heading toward “ethnic cleansing” and the “erasure of Palestine.”

The former diplomats, he said, had called on London and Paris to stop weapons transfers, ban trade with settlements and implement the decisions of the international courts in The Hague.

“London and Paris must not hide behind the word ‘concern’ in this situation. Continuing to send weapons and any support for the regime is a conscious choice to cooperate in and participate in the crimes of the Zionist regime,” Gharibabadi said.

The Houthi-run Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs says new US sanctions on Hezbollah constitute active participation in Israeli crimes.

“When the Israeli enemy is unable to achieve a military victory, the Americans step in to complete the role,” the Houthis said, the Houthi-controlled Yemen News Agency (SABA) reported.

In the statement, the ministry called US measures adopted this week that designated Hezbollah a proxy group of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps illegal and a violation of international law.

The statement also appeared to issue a warning to the wider Lebanese government: “The authorities in Lebanon must study history carefully, for standing with the enemy will inevitably lead to loss.”

What the Qur’an says about Muslims who split their faith into sects, after leaving the ignorance  Paganism:

Indeed, you ˹O Prophet˺ are not responsible whatsoever for those who have divided their faith and split into sects. Their judgment rests only with Allah. And He will inform them of what they used to do.

Street currency dealers set the exchange rate by how much, for example,  dollars cost them.
If the US creates an artificial shortage, through Zionist opposition agents controlled by Israel, the only way to control the currency is to round up the criminals who are trying to bring the government down.

If China is closing its Embassy in Tehran, we are back to USUKIS staging a new ground invasion from Azerbaijan, Kurdistan and Balochistan, while Israel again bombs  Tehran.

Thanks again for the Alkhorshid.  Have now listened to him.   Interesting that Major General Bakshi (linked to recently) sees the Mecca pact differently.  Not as a stabilising force but as a Sunni alliance against India, to be compensated for by India drawing closer to Iran.

Nima’s final passage is confirmed by Chas Freeman, the doyen of  old school American diplomats and a man I have always regarded as bedrock.  The Trump administration doesn’t have the diplomatic staff or diplomatic expertise to cope with the situation the American defeat in  Iran has brought about.

Except – if that defeat’s so epoch changing, why is it that, from what Nima says towards the end,  the US is still able to bring such pressure on the countries surrounding Iran to assist with the economic war Trump now wants to shift to?    Couldn’t work that out from what Nima was saying.

Glad he states use of nuclear against Iran unlikely.   But if Trump thought that would get him through the midterms he do it in a flash.  Maybe he’s hoping to distract his voters with more of the 51st State nonsense instead.

“ ‘The tragedy of modern war is that the young men die fighting each other – instead of their real enemies back home in the capitals.’ ~ Edward Abbey ” ~ Strange Bedfellow
“This makes me think of Lenin. Nobody saw him coming in 1917-18 and yet his legacy for us is still there: the world must change, the longer we leave our fate in the hands of Trump and his friends like Macron, Merz and so on, the faster somebody will screw up and the nukes will fly. Trump is quite capable of destroying everybody because he is obviously deranged.”  ~ Ahenobarbus | Aug 22 2026 14:41 utc | 148
So you live in Russia? Abbey, who I quote above, was an anarchist like myself. The problem with ‘civilization’ is that it has paradoxes or contradictions that seem to make it untenable in the long-run and seems in large part why we keep collapsing them throughout history. In any case, if those of us who wish to live in a civilization that gets it reasonably right over a far longer time-frame– assuming that’s even possible– it might help that our collective intelligence level is sufficiently outside and to the right of the bell curve of the current average.
Posted by: Strange Bedfellow | Aug 22 2026 15:14 utc | 155

What would truly help would be for us to individually and collectively begin paying attention to larger matters. That is, we, again both individually and collectively, need to stop resisting the temptation in front of us to be lazy and distracted by “entertainment”, which we mainly are. The problem is less that everyone has too low native intelligence. It’s that we’re all mentally corrupted by the availability of sports-ball, TV programs and other entertainment which keep our minds asleep. We find giving in to this completely easy and mildly pleasant, this unlike paying attention to larger matters which is both frustrating and hard. “Waking up” is a matter of will and mental self-discipline more than anything.

The powers don’t want that because it would interfere with them having their way. They have figured out how to distract us though, nearly completely effectively. Our giving in to the temptation to remain asleep includes us in the culpability for things going to poop. That, of course, includes the debacle in Iran.

Posted by: jonboinAR | Aug 23 2026 13:34 utc | 232 …The problem is …we’re all mentally corrupted by the availability of entertainment..  which keep our minds asleep.

<=Actually , i don’t think entertainment is the crux of the problem.. distraction is a result of the problem that keeps our minds asleep.. its lack of understanding and familiarity with the terms and processes that constitute politics.  Its lack of opportunity to become involved in the activities we all call politics that keeps our minds asleep in matters concerning politics.

I am not trying to pick a fight.  I just want the underlying problem correctly stated so we don’t go down the wrong road.  Why does the son or daughter of a king or queen or a member of the Oligarchy get a education far different from the general population?   These  people get to participate.  To them business, investing, risk management, leadership, and control over populations subordinated to their will are expected to be part of their lives.  The Oligarch grows up dealing with these terms, processes, geography, and they not only study history and languages and cultures much more throughly than do the general populations, they also visit with the oligarch families in the other countries.  They know each other by the time they grow up.

Please, you have raised a good question.. thanks very much..

Recall your first year in college.. you were told to take a course in say Biology or Chemistry or History or Archeology,  Economics, medical etymology .. or something .. you went into the course, “blind”, believing you knew something about it or that it was a waste of your time.. and at least you thought you understood its content boundaries.. but about mid term you realize the content of that course is so broad, so vast, so deep, and so important that one could spend a lifetime studying in the field and never know it all.  Its at that time most realize that will be fortunate indeed to learn enough to do well on the final exams.

That is  why football, basket, shop, mountain climbing and underwater basket weaving are taught in high school.  You learn enough  about it, to be interested in in.. and its not passive, you are allowed to venture onto the playing field, the lab, etc in order to hands-on participate.. and even if you don’t actively participate then you become a fan of the sport or skill and you become a specialist in the skills and talents possessed by those who do participate..

How is entertainment different from politics

Unless you are the son or daughter of an oligarch you are not familiar with the ins and out of politics.. You are not usually taught about macro economics, you have no background in the capacities, histories, or intentions of the countries, you have never heard of most of them, you can’t even name their capitals or point to them on the map.. You know nothing of the legalase involved in constitutions, treaties,, laws, courts, and your understanding of how the Foreign office, Dept of War, Federal reserve, UN, and other major international organizations works. Your experience with politics intentionally rendered deficient.. What you know of other nations comes from mimes or personal tourist visits.. All you know is what the Republican or Democratic parties tell you.. and unless you are unique among your classmates you will never be asked to participate in politics or manage a trans global company. You get to vote.. once every two years if you become interested but that is about it..

Result, you don’t have the knowledge tools needed to understand enough to be interested.  Even if you are interested you cannot participate because you don’t have the background.
