I read that one and that’s not really what Pepe says.  The gist of the article is that he hasn’t a clue what’s going on beyond a bunch of back channel speculation.  
I like the guy, but he can get a little too excited and creative in his coverage at times. 
What we know: 
US Imperialism has halted kinetic methods (as they like to put it) and has now committed to economic strangulation.
The economic front will not work either unless they are willing to “blow up the global economy” by cutting trade with the indispensable power house and reigning champion of the world…China.  
So, were stuck at checkmate.  Imperialism is stewing thinking of flipping the whole gameboard and going nuclear while using the Zio media mafia to try and make everything appear perfectly normal stateside.  
There will either be a big climb down camouflaged as a great Imperialist victory or we return to kinetics and Imperialism further reveals it’s absolute impotence before noble Iran.

In December 2023, the US threatened new secondary sanctions against Chinese banks doing business with Russia in yuan.

By the summer of 2024, Chinese banks had largely stepped back from Russia-related trade because the risk of being hit by US Treasury sanctions and losing US dollar clearing access and effectively being isolated from the global financial system was too great. Russia-related transactions were instead shifted to smaller banks in Northeast China that had fewer international exposures and were less concerned about the financial nuclear option.
The result was not the collapse of China-Russia trade but friction. Opening accounts and conducting transactions through smaller banks became more cumbersome, resulting in perhaps a [put in percentage] reduction in trade efficiency. Alternative channels also emerged like stablecoin exchanges in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan which allowed some China-Russia transactions to continue in USDT, although this cannot fully replace traditional banking infrastructure.
A whatever percentage disruption was apparently considered an acceptable outcome by Washington and Blinken and Yellen moved on to other priorities.
China now faces a similar strategic choice with Iran. Beijing needs to be braver and recognize that supporting Iran may come with financial costs at a time when the Chinese economy is already under pressure. Domestic consumption has weakened significantly, and much of growth is now dependent on global trade. The fear of sanctions is therefore understandable: sanctions disrupt trade and create short-term economic pain.
But imagine the world map five or ten years from now. If China does not help its two most natural strategic partners when both are under pressure, and both eventually become weakened or isolated or even fall, what exactly would the map of the world look like for China? A Russia that is defeated or marginalized and an Iran that is neutralized would leave China facing the US led alliance system alone.

The US may ultimately try not only to sanction Chinese banks but also to target the broader Chinese payment system and any non-Chinese banks that use it. The only way to prevent this vulnerability is if major countries in the Global South collectively decide to continue using the yuan and Chinese payment infrastructure. The US can sanction individual banks; it becomes much more difficult to sanction half the world.

Ultimately the US dollar and sanctioning US dollar denominated trade doesn’t matter anymore, is being demoted to a national currency, and the chickens are coming home to roost. That’s not to say the vassals won’t implode before US, though.

China has made it illegal to comply with illegal sanctions. So all Chinese banks or those operating un China cannot comply.
 
So any Chinese bank can trade away with Iran and any foreign bank will need to create a fudge if they want to refuse to trade with Iran and not be prosecuted.
 
In any case the Chinese government can do the trading. And on sell. People in the USA place too much importance on finance.

You have to do some background reading on how these sanctions actually work. The US is threatening to impose what are known as blocking sanctions on Chinese banks. Once imposed any bank or for that matter any company (although the main target of this threat is banks) anywhere in the world that does business with an entity subject to US blocking sanctions can itself be placed under the same sanctions regime.
The US only needs to follow through against two or three banks to send a powerful signal because the consequences for a financial institution can be catastrophic. Depositors may panic and rush to withdraw funds. Other banks will cut ties and access to US dollar clearing is gone.
It is an extremely powerful tool because it effectively gets foreign banks to enforce US sanctions on behalf of the US. Smart capitalists will naturally back down in the face of this threat. China needs to recognize that now is not the time to be commercially cautious. Instead it has to be brave and think about the country’s long-term future. Otherwise in a few years it could find itself isolated on the world stage and regret not having provided more support to its two former closest partners who are now doing the heavy lifting of fighting the US, Israel and their proxies.

Can’t find the item, but recently read that China was selling any dollar assets that could be snatched, like treasuries, even at a slight loss because that’s better han losing the entire asset. There was more to it than that, which is why I’d like to find the source. For example, China still gets dollars as payment for goods but unloads them as fast as possible while they’re still of value.

My guess is the commentators here are generally over the age of 40. I think b is around 65. As a group we should have savings and investments from decades of working and should be able to use our own funds for investments.
I do not consider betting on whether the S&P 500 index will go down or up to be war speculation. I don’t think it makes sense to attach negative connotations to investing or compare it to something like a factory inflating military procurement contracts.
Everyone should be free to invest their own money. They don’t need to give an exposition on how their investments create value for society. It’s healthy for people who oppose what Israel is doing to try to make money for themselves based on following Middle East and DC news. If instead we are a financially unsuccessful group of people who only know technical areas within the miliary realm the other side wins because they can simply say, “Oh, those guys are unsuccessful conspiracy kooks.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, under Operation Economic Outcast, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) proposed a rule that would revoke Banque Misr UAE’s correspondent banking access to U.S. financial institutions.
 
“Treasury promised to sever every economic lifeline Tehran has left and finally end the threat of the Iranian regime,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “We also warned that Iran’s enablers cannot continue to enjoy access to the U.S. dollar and the global financial system. Banque Misr UAE decided to find out the hard way, and today, we are taking the first step in holding it accountable for its continued, egregious support of the Iranian regime.”
 
Additionally, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Reza Mohammad Taeedi, the manager of Bank Melli’s Dubai branch. OFAC also sanctioned a Hong Kong-based front company that has helped launder funds for a sanctioned Iranian exchange house.

When the tripartite Pak/Saudi/Turkiye mutual defence pact (with a clone of OTAN’s Clause 5) was announced earlier this month, the usual suspects – ie the Western claimed that it was to protect each other from Iran.
I demurred and suggested that the foe was, is & will be Israel, esp. for Turkiye.
Within a week Israel had carried out a large airstrike on an “enemy combatant base” in northern Syria. Some days later even the MSM had to admit that the base belonged to Turkiye as part of the still extant US/Turkiye/Free Syrian army (sic!) etc etc doing who knows what in “newly liberated, freedom loving Syria” under erstwhile headchopper al-Jolani.
Sometimes it’s hard to stop choking from laughter.
