Budanov – Ukraine Is Losing 30,000 Soldiers Per Month

There have been few reliable data of human losses in the war of Ukraine. The estimates vary widely. The official number, especially on the Ukrainian side, are formed by propaganda.

In February of this year the (acting) President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelinski said that 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed since February 2022:

The last time Zelensky gave an update on Ukraine’s casualties was in December 2024, when he put deaths at 43,000.

In his interview with French television, he said: “In Ukraine, officially the number of soldiers killed on the battlefield – either professionals or those conscripted – is 55,000.”

The official number of dead cited by Zelensky is considerably lower than Ukraine’s total losses. As he said himself, “a large number of people” are registered as missing.

As of six months ago, Ukraine’s interior ministry had recorded more than 70,000 people as officially missing – both soldiers and civilians – but the breakdown is never given.

The true figure may be higher – information about the number of dead is highly sensitive and affects morale.

Five month later Zelenski’s number had shrunk by 5,000:

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Fox News reported 50,000 killed and 400,000 wounded Ukrainian servicemen.

“Let’s be honest, I don’t want to be too frank about this because the Russians will understand what is happening with our army. So, we have about 50,000 soldiers killed, and approximately 400,000 wounded, and there is a huge number of missing in action,” said the President of Ukraine.

At the end of July 2026, when Zelenski gave the latest number, the war had been waged for 53 months. The average monthly losses for Ukraine, according to his numbers, have thus been some 8,500 dead and wounded per month.

Yesterday the head of the Presidential Office General Kyrylo Budanov made a comment which suggests a different, much higher, number:

Ukraine must mobilize at least 30,000 people monthly to maintain its current position on the battlefield, Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Presidential Office said.

“Unfortunately, we have to accept it [mobilization] as it is. We cannot do otherwise,” Budanov said, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

“We have to find the courage and honestly say: we cannot mobilize fewer than 30,000 people a month. This is the minimum number needed to maintain what we have,” he continued.

The Ukrainian army does not release soldiers from their duty unless they have been severely wounded and/or are otherwise incapable to continuing their service. But there is a significant amount of soldiers who simply walk away, don civilian clothing and go absent without leave. In total that number is estimated to be some 200,000. Over the time of the war that amounts to some 4,000 per month.

As 30,000 new recruits are needed per month to maintain what Ukraine has, according to Budanov, there are on average some 26,000 losses per month of dead, missed or severely wounded. (Lightly wounded soldiers will return to service.)

Multiplied by 53 months this sums up to more than 1.3 million Ukrainian casualties.

Give that the Russian side has had -throughout the war- artillery, drone and bombing supremacy, it is highly likely that Ukrainian losses are significant higher that those on the Russian side.

Claims by the Ukrainian General Staff that Russia has had more than 1.48 million casualties seem therefore not to be realistic. (It is not even clear if that count is only of dead or includes wounded).

Unrealistic are also numbers spread these days by “western officials”:

While Russia is still acquiring new battlefield recruits at speed, with an estimated rate of 1,000 a day, in the last two months even this has not been sufficient to replace those killed or injured.

“We estimate that the gap between the number of people Russia is losing to casualties and the number they’re being able to recruit is around 6,000 a month at the moment,” one western official said.

An estimate of 36,000 Russian casualties per month is obviously bonkers.

At the end of 2025 the anti-Russian Meduza and Mediazona outlets claimed to have documented the death of 218,000 Russian soldiers and estimated a total, not documented, loss for Russia of 350,000.  That would, on average, be 6,600 per month.

Even after the war in Ukraine has ended it will historians take years to come up with the real numbers of losses on either side.

Budanov’s claim, that 30,000 new soldiers per month are needed for Ukraine “to maintain what we have”, is probably in the ballpark of what historians will find.

Reportedly about 4 million Ukrainians fled to Russia after the SMO started. That could potentially be a higher or roughly same number than fled to EU or other western countries.

In the future a substantial part could return to Russian controlled areas and rebuild stuff, start mines, electric plants, water plants, factories, etc. One could easily see Chinese investments in Donbass. It’s very possible a large part of Ukraine’s mineral resources, salt, coal, potash, oil and gas (outside Lwow oblast) and rare and base metals will either end up in Russian control or at least denied from any sort of potential utilization by the western corporations.

Without Western debt dragging it down the restoration of Ukraine will be a gold rush.

Re: Donbass ?
The Ukraine was the industrial powerhouse and wealthiest region of the USSR overall. The Donbass was the center of  industry in The Ukraine.
Regarding population – its important to use as a starting point 2014, not 2022. people were voting with their feet by the millions beginning in 2014. very roughly since 2014 ~16 million Ukrainian citizens fled Kiev‘s rule. Around 8 million fled to Russia and 8 million fled west.

Same situation as Venezuela.

I don’t think the situation in Venezuela is comparable.

Chavez’s laws were reformed but not completely abolished.
The Venezuelan state remains the sole owner of subsoil resources.
Trump is just a big liar.

What has changed, with the laws requested by Nicolas Maduro and passed shortly after his illegal abduction by the US, is that the state-owned company PDVSA no longer holds a monopoly.

It is now possible for a foreign private company to be a minority shareholder in a joint venture or even to operate directly under a contract with the state.

They may also be authorized to sell the oil they produce directly. This is what allows Chevron to sell the oil it extracts via the mechanism set up by Trump, a mechanism that lets him claim to be the “owner of all Venezuela’s oil.”

In any case, the state’s share is guaranteed : 30% share + 15% taxes.
The change is primarily intended to attract more investors, particularly American ones, as this is the surest way to avoid sanctions.

We are all disappointed by Venezuela’s political concessions to the predators led by Trump, but we shouldn’t swallow all their lies, either.

Indeed

But until it becomes a territory of the United States of America, Venezuela’s reserves cannot be counted as US reserves, the way Trump does.

Even at the height of American hegemony, neither Canadian nor Saudi oil reserves were ever tallied as American.

It is truly astonishing that such outrageous claims can pass unchallenged.

Did WW2 ever end?
Gemini re CIA-Mi6 Jew ops in Ukraine

During the early Cold War (specifically between 1948 and 1953), the CIA, alongside British intelligence (MI6), launched covert programs such as Operation Aerodynamic. These operations sought to exploit existing anti-Soviet sentiment by parachuting supplies, money, and communication equipment to the Ukrainian underground to gather intelligence on the USSR. However, the operations were largely unsuccessful due to heavy Soviet penetration and the swift neutralization of the networks by the NKVD/KGB…

Fair estimate:
1.5 million UkraNazi casualties
(0.5 KIA, 1 WIA+missing+AWOL)

Putin’s words:
“casualty rate is around 1 to 5”

So:
0.3 million Russian casualties
(0.1 KIA, 0.2 WIA+missing+AWOL)

*KIA = Killed In Action
*WIA = Wounded In Action
*AWOL = Away WithOut License
* 1.5 million ia fair estimate considering need for AT LEAST 30k mobilized per month.
* 1 KIA to 2 WIA (unrecoverable severely wounded) seems also a fair estimate for the casualty ratio in such a war.

Sad conclusion: there’s still enough canon fodder (men from 25 to 60 years old, soon also from 23 or fewer years old, and also single women without children) available for UkraNazi mobilisation for another 5+ years of USA/NATO proxy war of attrition without the collapse of the front lines.

The game changers:
* West with exhausted air defenses, and Russia frequently doing air strikes with 100% (or near 100%) success;
* Russia opening more fronts, i.e. expanding the geography of the “buffer” zones, all over the borders of Kharkov, Sumy, and Chernigov.
* After those 5+ years, Russia with conditions for another offensive on Kiev, this time without any intention of negotiating nor retreating;

End result:
* Russia’s indisputable victory;
* but a very costly one;
* all SMO goals achieved in Donbass;
* but Odessa might never be liberated;
* the “buffer” zones might never return to Ukraine;
* total regime change in Kiev;
* de-nazi-fication all the way up to Galicia (Lvov, etc);
* or Galicia tries “independence”, i.e. a rump state occupied by NATO “peace keepers” just like Kosovo;
* no more NATO expansion;
* but Russia also losing influence in other geographies (as in Syria) in order to avoid over-expansion;
* USA achieves the goal of total geopolitical capture of Europe, and on practice the elimination of any economic/trade competition;

The great doubt:
* will there be any direct attack between NATO’s/USA’s European vassals and Russia?
* if so, will the Baltic states and Kaliningrad still exist at all in 2035?
* are the western/nazi lunatics really going to achieve a “Chernobyl” in the Zaporojie nuclear power station?
* will the de-dollar-isation reach a point of no return in this period, and what will be the role of the Euro Zone in it?
* will Zelensky choose exhile in a mansion in Miami, London, Switzerland, “israel”, or will the Azov nazis not even let him leave Ukraine alive?
* when is the civil war (or secession war) in USatan gonna start?
* when “UK” becomes only England, will it still be called “UK”?

Did someone here suggest zio-Israelis *weren’t* the Hidden Hand behind the Ukrainian provocation of Russia????? ????
______

Zelenskyy wants Ukraine to be ‘a big Israel.’ Here’s a road map.

New Atlanticist

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/new-atlanticist/zelenskyy-wants-ukraine-to-be-a-big-israel-heres-a-road-map/

But what does he mean by “a big Israel”? With a population more than four times smaller, and vastly less territory, the Jewish state might not seem like the most fitting comparison. Yet consider the regional security threats it faces, as well as its highly mobilized population: The two embattled countries share more than you might think.
So if Zelenskyy really does have Israel in mind as a model for Ukraine, here are some of the key features he might consider for adoption (some of which are already applicable today):

  • Security first: Every Israeli government promises, first and foremost, that it will deliver security—and knows it will be judged on this pledge.   Ordinary citizens, not just politicians, pay close attention to security threats—both from across borders and from internal sources— and much of the public chooses who to elect by that metric alone.

  • The whole population plays a role: The Israeli model goes further than Zelenskyy’s vision of security services deployed to civilian spaces:    Most young Israeli adults serve in the military, and many are employed in security-related professions following their service.     A common purpose unites the citizenry, making them ready to endure shared sacrifice. Civilians recognize their responsibility to follow security protocols and contribute to the cause.    Some even arm themselves (though under strict supervision) to do so. The widespread mobilization of Ukrainian society in collective defense suggests that the country has this potential. In his comments, Zelenskyy reflected this reality when he said security would “come from the strength of every house, every building, every person.”

Other dot points

Self-defense is the only way:
maintain active defense partnerships
Intelligence dominance:
Technology is key:
Build an innovation ecosystem:
Maintain democratic institutions:

Like Israel in its early wars, Ukraine appears to have fended off an acute existential threat. But the war is far from over.
By adapting their country’s mindset to mirror aspects of Israel’s approach to chronic security challenges, Ukrainian officials can tackle critical national-security challenges with confidence and build a similarly resilient state.

He misses one very important point — the present (though much reduced) population of Kiev-Ukraine is predominantly non-Jewish.  Unlike the Zelensky regime and mafia oligarchs. So for it to be like Zelensky wants, there would have to be a considerable amount of population replacement there, or by now maybe just a large import of what would amount to a Brahmin-type social class.
Ukrainian natives could serve as a disposable underclass, but not be allowed any power. The replacement “1st class” non-disposable population would almost certainly be Chabad cultists … who long regarded that as being their own base area.  Zelensky leadership and Oligarchy are almost all theirs already.
Non-Chabad self-styled “nazi” militants (both logically and ideologically deranged) would — though at present they may well be too stupid or blinkered to realise it — have to be content with a very low status in the new Khazaria.  Would that somehow be ok with them?
