War On Iran: – Silence Before The Storm Or Ongoing Negotiations?

Throughout the last day there have been no U.S. strikes on Iran:

“Iran had a peaceful night,” Health Ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour posted on X. The U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, unlike the previous 13 nights, it did not announce new strikes.

This comes after 13 days of U.S. (and other) strikes on Iran followed by well targeted responses by Iranian forces.

This curious. Something is up.

This could be the silence before the storm, i.e. for an upcoming large scale U.S. strike all over Iran – for which there are many signs, or it could be part of ongoing negotiations.

My hunch is that this halt of bombings was a precondition for the renewal of talks which are now ongoing.

Talks are always better than bombing. But I see little chance for a positive outcome.

And if USrael risks taking the hit, what comes after that? I find the prospect rather frightening.
This is where USrael runs up against Iran’s escalation dominance.
Is USrael going to deal with this realistically or will delusional thinking win the day?

Wow.  I followed your link and found out that Kirill blocked me on X.    I feel oddly important.
But the ICC is a kangaroo court set up in 2002 at the behest of the USA, although the US exempted itself from prosecution.
It is used to go after targets of the US.  Khan overstepped with Netanyahu and now he’s out, but that doesn’t mean the court should still exist.

I do not believe the US is ever going to stop attacking Iran. Only complete submission will be accepted. It will take a while but that will be the end result. In the meantime Israel has free reign to ethnically cleanse those parts of Palestine that have a significant Arab population.

We all want to think in months and years but campaigns like these can take decades. Rome wasn’t built in a day as the saying goes.

Our betters cannot lose. They will become extraordinarily violent if they perceive themselves as coming in second. I am currently babysitting my 6 year old grandchildren and see many similarities.

What we will see is a balancing act where capital has weigh the advantages of control over the oil production in the middle east over increased gasoline prices at the pump. We have been there before in 1973 with the OPEC embargo. Since then Western capitalists have gained control over nearly every major oil producer. they almost had Russia too but haven’t got it yet.

I’m interested to hear arguments debunking this very simple logic. Posted by: General Factotum | Jul 26 2026 8:36 utc | 210

Your logic makes total sense to me.  And our forefathers in the US acknowledged it a century ago with the Oil Depletion Allowance.

We used to know that oil resources were finite, but as the world has become more and more dependent on oil, people have been encouraged to slip into toddler logic- If I want it, I can have it.

Meanwhile, our owners, who know better,  are becoming more and more desperate to get their greedy hands on the remaining supply.

Hence, the wars on Venezuela, Russia, and Iran.  If getting oil was as simple as demanding it be always available, the US would not be on its 26 year killing spree.

I agree, they play the long game. Just look at Syria. Just when you thought the Western backed salafi terrorists were down and out for good they made a stunning comeback. But in this case my fear is that there may not be an opportunity for a long game. According to some of the sources I view online, Israel is very vulnerable to attack. They don’t have much defense for what Iran can throw at them. Their missile defense has always been relatively ineffective. But maybe even more so now that defensive stockpiles are running low. The only reason they haven’t been more devastated up until now is that Iran has shown restraint… in their early hopes that this could be resolved some other way besides militarily. But now that it looks like negotiations with the West are pointless and futile — as you alluded to in your comment — I guess you could say the gloves  are off. And they (the Iranians) don’t seem inclined to show restraint any longer. Which means Israel is facing serious destruction. And my fear is that, since they don’t have many options left to them, they may resort to nuclear. And I think they’ve already started trying to prepare the American public for this option by talking about Pickaxe mountain and the supposed need to bomb it in order to get at their nuclear program. They’re floating the idea when from what I understand a nuclear weapon would have limited utility in a case like this. The devastation from a nuclear weapon remains mainly on the surface. It spreads horizontally. Just look at some of the images of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Things were wiped out, leveled, you might say. As a matter of fact, it resembles a lot like what Gaza looks like today only it was done in one blast instead of over a prolonged two-year plus period.  But going underground, moving mountains, doesn’t seem to be one of its specialties. So I think they’re using that as a way to make the nuclear option seem more acceptable to the American public even though it would have about zero application for that stated purpose.  And also I heard Netanyahu say on the radio just earlier today that if Iran attacks Israel their response will be very very hard. I don’t think there was much doubt what he was hinting at there.  And once you cross that threshold there’s no telling where it might go. Already Pakistan and North Korea are on record for having said that they would retaliate against Israel for a nuclear attack with a nuclear attack of their own. And even without that, unless Israel can take out pretty much the entire Iranian missile arsenal the Iranians would likely have enough left to wreak serious damage on them. I don’t want to even think about any of this — for anybody’s sake. But I don’t see how, if Israel takes it to the next escalatory stage, they emerge from this unscathed. And any prospects for the long game here don’t seem good — for any of us.

I think nukes will happen fairly soon.  The actual damage caused by them is not really that much more than some of the conventional bombs already in use and people are not as freaked out by radiation as much as they used to be.  We have had some pretty serious radiation leaks from Chernobyl and Fukushima and Depleted Uranium is still put into bullets and fired at armored vehicles.  Many believe that a red line would be crossed and others would respond in kind.  I do not see that happening.  Surely anyone who has a nuclear weapon would respond in kind but who would send their bombs on another’s behalf and risk retaliation?

Exists everywhere. “Correlation is not causation” is a fundamental statistical principle meaning that just because two variables move together, it does not mean one causes the other.

But of course, missing the point, was the point, right?

So: Do you rely on equivalent medical science to make judgments here about the Covid pandemic and Vaccine efficacy? I do. And still make my own judgments.

But before I run along — Yes, long-term PTSD and severe psychological stress are linked to a higher risk of kidney function decline, though a direct single-cause link is complex. Research shows that chronic stress disorders can contribute to faster drops in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over time. Constant activation of the fight-or-flight response keeps stress hormones like cortisol high, which can alter blood flow to the kidneys. Known as Nervous System Overload sometimes connected to constant Fear Mongering.

And Yes, funny you asked, national data from the Israel National Registry of Kidney Diseases and the International Society of Nephrology Global Kidney Health Atlas show that kidney failure incidence is higher in Israel than the European average, with Arab and minority populations experiencing disproportionately higher rates—driven largely by elevated diabetes prevalence. Globally, chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects a median of 9.5% of adults, while studies indicate regional Middle Eastern and specific domestic minority rates trend higher.

Nothing lasts forever, not even The Universe. But you should know that the daughter products of nuclear fission and thermonuclear devices last precisely as long as their respective half-lives. It is not mysterious or difficult.

Actually come to think of it they do have bunker buster nukes apparently, which in itself also only makes it more likely they might attempt to use one. But what you say about low yield nukes is true to an extent. But “low yield” is something of a misnomer when it comes to this. It’s low-yield only in comparison to the relatively larger yield weapons in existence today… but are actually generally comparable to the bombs set off at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This all just seems to me part of the campaign to make nuclear weapons more acceptable to the public. But if a mushroom cloud goes up over the horizon I’m not sure if the opposition will be sitting around debating what the tonnage of the bomb was. Idk, maybe they would considering the implications of further escalation for life on this planet. But considering the stakes, “maybe” isn’t good enough for me. As far as I’m concerned, it has got to be a hard line drawn at that. The unthinkable must remain unthinkable. And them trying to soft-sell it to the public is a danger to all of us.

Posted by: Steverino | Jul 27 2026 15:23 utc | 319

Of course they lump in a whole range of tonnage under the category of low yield nuclear from under 1 kiloton to about 20 kilotons.

Apologies for a poorly-written comment. To make it clear, “But you should know that the daughter products of nuclear fission and thermonuclear devices last precisely as long as their respective half-lives determine“. At the end of each half-life interval, there is half the starting radioactive species remaining (by definition).

What Israel has already done, since its inception, is already enough to justify its nuclear eradication.
Are we supposed to wait for Israel to consume all of West Asia and start a war against Russia and China , before eradicating these madmen snd women?

That would simply postpone Armaggeddon for a few years, when Israel reached the borders of its bonkers dreams. Better to do it now, before it formalises its criminal ties with the US and becomes hegemonical.

When Armaggeddon comes,  two thirds of humanity will be wiped out. Que sera, sera.
