War On Iran: – Silence Before The Storm Or Ongoing Negotiations?

Throughout the last day there have been no U.S. strikes on Iran:

“Iran had a peaceful night,” Health Ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour posted on X. The U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, unlike the previous 13 nights, it did not announce new strikes.

This comes after 13 days of U.S. (and other) strikes on Iran followed by well targeted responses by Iranian forces.

This curious. Something is up.

This could be the silence before the storm, i.e. for an upcoming large scale U.S. strike all over Iran – for which there are many signs, or it could be part of ongoing negotiations.

My hunch is that this halt of bombings was a precondition for the renewal of talks which are now ongoing.

Talks are always better than bombing. But I see little chance for a positive outcome.

There is no question that in a finite world oil reserves must be finite. Even if we accommodate proposals such as abiotic oil, it must still be finite – unless we accept a double lunacy that abiotic oil is created from nothing. Improved oil exploration and detection does not magically create new oil, it just locates deposits from that ever-decreasing finite quantity remaining unused. So new reserves become harder to locate, and newer reserves are generally harder and more expensive to access, and generally produce a lower energy return on energy invested. A century ago, EROI was around 100:1 because available oil was shallow and easy to extract. Now, with the very easy oil gone, deep-water drilling, fracking, and oil sands drop the EROI down to around 15:1 to 10:1. When the EROI drops below 5:1 as oil recovery becomes increasingly difficult and expensive, the ‘net energy’ left for use becomes critical, and cost would be unpredictable (very high is not very accurate!) and the system collapses exponentially.

Whether or not the World has reached or passed Peak Oil, that point, however described and whenever reached, is unavoidable. Parameters may change (exploration, recovery, efficiency, consumption…) making accurate prediction impossible, but the principle remains.

I’m interested to hear arguments debunking this very simple logic.

Just manufacturer the product to fit need of the end user. I predict, biologically produced enzymes will eventually be found that can turn C02, S02 and H20 into molecules that can replace the energy oil and gas now provide.

Yes – all theoretically (and some already proven practically) possible, but none of these approaches nullifies the unavoidable hurdle of EROI, or circumvents the fundamental laws of physics (thermodynamics, enthalpy, energy conservation) and chemistry (enthalpy and heat of reaction). If more available energy is expended in a process to produce usable energy, then there would need to be a very compelling reason to do so.

In late 18th century England ‘coal gas’ had started to replace whale oil for lighting and later in the mid 19th century kerosene (originally made from coal) was starting to replace coal gas. You might not be aware, but England and Wales had massive supplies of high quality coal, this secure supply of coal was used to power the ships of the Royal Navy. But there were some limitations of coal fired boilers and it was decided to switch to oil (all due to are old friend Winston Churchill, who it seemed was quite the visionary when it came to more efficient ways of killing people). This was just prior to World War I, and with the usual machinations of the British and other European powers, control was secured over drilling rights etc. in Ottoman Mesopotamia. Of course when war broke out the Germans was dropped from this cabal and in 1916 the British and French divided up the Ottoman empire’s oil resources (Sykes-Picot Agreement).

This is a rather incomplete history of what happened, but it had absolutely fuck all to do with the ‘day Libcoln was shot’.

Just a hypothesis — I know nothing — but given the well-documented long lead time to manufacture US interceptors, as compared to the ample production of Iranian stand-off weapons, it appears that Iran has the luxury of pausing hostilities at its convenience, with little risk of any significant rearmament by the US invaders during the interregnum.

An even bolder speculation is that critical elements to carry out the massive strikes Trump promised last week are now crippled, meaning that a massive US strike would result in unacceptable losses in the inevitable Iranian counterstrike.

If this is Zugzwang for the yankee invaders, their best course would be to pick up sticks and flee homeward, leaving little Shitrahell to its unpleasant fate. 🙂

USrael is looking at shortages in high tech repair parts for the jets.

About 30 years ago US maintenance allocation were limited to remove and replace complex repair parts in the deployed site, issue the part out of the flyaway kit and ship the broken part back to US for depot level repair.

Often the repair is at a contractor who works cost plus. The repair suffers from supply and technical problems.

Insuspect the percentage of US aircraft down awaiting parts is making it hard to generate sorties.
