War On Iran: Oil Supplies Will Again Be In Trouble – This Time For Real

Trump’s restart of his war on Iran will likely lead to much higher oil prices than the world has experienced during the previous active phase of the conflict.

The world consumes about 100 million barrels of oil per day [bpd]. Before the war on Iran some 20% of that used to pass from the Persian Gulf region through the Strait of Hormuz to the world markets.

During the 2nd recent war on Iran in March of this year the Strait was closed. This led to a strong rise in oil prices. But the catastrophic economic damage many experts had expected (archived) and feared did not occur.

The reasons were threefold:

1. Some of the oil coming from the Gulf region was diverted to different routes:

  • Saudi Arabia used its trans-country pipeline to divert output from its eastern coast in the Persian Gulf to its western Red Sea coast. After a few weeks that outlet at the harbor of Yanbu had reached its maximum capacity of some 4-5 m bpd.
  • The United Arab Emirates used pipelines from its oil fields within the Persian Gulf to its southern coast harbor of Fujairah. It thereby avoided to pass that oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Iraq transported some oil via trucking to Syria and Turkey.
  • Under the ceasefire MoU between the U.S. and Iran the blockaded tankers loaded with oil could escape from the Gulf.

2. Additional oil was brought to the market:

  • The U.S. and some of its allies raided their Strategic Petroleum Reserves to calm down oil prices.
  • The U.S. lifted sanctions on Iranian and Russian oil exports.
  • Oil production within the U.S. increased.

3. Demand was lowered:

  • The most important contribution here was the unexpected lowering of imports in China. The country managed to draw on its own huge reserves. It also used coal instead of oil as feedstock for its chemical factories.
  • Higher prices at the pump led to at least some demand shrinkage in various countries.

In total some 7 m bpd exited the Gulf region through new outlets. The releases from reserves and the lifting of sanctions contributed to additional supplies of some 3-5 m bpd. The reduction of Chinese import demand amounted to some 5 m bpd.

Due to all the above measures the global supply of about 100 m bpd only shrank to about 92-95 m bpd. Global demand, especially due to the Chinese measures, dropped to a nearly equal balance. The amount that was still missing in this rough calculation was drawn from reserves within the distribution and transport levels.

After all measures were in place demand and supply were balanced again and oil prices came down to a normal level of some $70+/bl.

When U.S. President Donald Trump decided to reignite the conflict he might have thought that the oil problem he had feared had gone away.

But it hasn’t. And the conditions now will make it way more difficult to keep the markets in balance.

1. Oil diversion from the Gulf is practically finished:

  • Yesterday Saudi airplanes attacked the airport of Yemen’s capital Sana’a. Following that the ruling Ansarullah coalition announced that the Bab el-Mandeb outlet of the Red Sea would be closed for Saudi shipping. Saudi output through its in-country pipeline and Yanbu harbor will thus shrink to the level that can pass on smaller ships through the Suez Canal. This will likely be less than 1 m bpd.
  • Yesterday Iran attacked two UAE tankers near Fujairah. The alternative UAE outlet is thus also closed.
  • The Strait of Hormuz was again declared closed. There will be no more oil escaping the Persian Gulf region.

2. Additional sources of oil are no longer available:

  • The U.S. strategic reserve is now near its lowest possible level. Any additional withdrawal from it will damage or destroy the salt caverns used for its storage.
  • Sanctions against Iranian and Russian crude oil exports have been reintroduced.
  • Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries as well as loading and transport infrastructure in the Black Sea have reduced Russian exports of petroleum products. Russia has completely stopped its export of diesel which usually amounted to some 800,000 bpd.
  • Reserves in transport and distribution stages are at record low levels.

3. Demand is increasing:

  • After a record slump of imports China restarted its buying of crude oil.
  • Summer season is upon us. Vacation travel in the U.S. and Europe will increase seasonal demand. This will especially hurt stocks of jet fuel of which Europe has less than a month supply.

Nearly all the favorable conditions which had allowed the world to ride out the supply slump during the last phase of the conflict are no longer available during the current one.

While the cash settled future markets will continue to be highly manipulated, real product prices will increase. We are likely to soon see new peaks of prices at gas stations.

Great Overview B.  One question:

I thought Iran‘s exports to China increased since Netanyahu‘s unprovoked attaxk.

American journalist Max Blumenthal says he was detained and questioned by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Washington Dulles International Airport upon returning from Iran, with agents searching his belongings and confiscating his smartphones after he refused to provide access to them……

….”The seizure of my devices was a clear act of intimidation aimed at deterring me and others from doing further critical reporting from Iran, which is likely why my interrogators from CBP demanded to know if I would be returning to Tehran to report any time soon.”….

The manipulated futures is the last line of defense. The more they manipulate, the more sudden and catastrophic the impact on the stock markets will be.

I expect the s&p will set another ath regardless before it collapses backwards off the cliff.

The main weapon of Iran and the primary fear of US is obvious. They thought the MOU would allow free access to every ship. Well, that’s what their dumbasses get for thinking. Why would Iran allow any unfriendly ships to pass when the orange dumbass started violating the clauses before, during and after the signing?? They knew this and got their oil out as fast as they could and used the American threats to drag their feet on the other vessels.

China reimporting is most likely refilling their reserves. An article a few weeks back indicated China wasn’t interested in Iranian oil and all the vessels headed there will be disappointed. Well, it was a propaganda piece. Nah, sonny. They were parking there because they knew the MOU was just buying time. Time Iran has used wisely, time the US squandered because it and its friends were not able to refill their reserves. Stupid Americans.

Now there are article declaring that the Red Sea pipelines is the death nail. Expanding capacity so Iran better watch out. Again, more chaff and flares. The western empire of lies never stops.

What will trump need to do when the economy is again on the verge? He will need to transfer money. Probably all the money that belongs to Iran and the complete withdrawal of naval asset from the region before strait begins open in increments.

The decline of diesel price within the Mafia Outlaw US Empire has ceased and has begun rising again up 12 cents/gal W/W. EIA product inventory listing is not up-to-date with the last entry being 3 July, while the usual frequency is weekly/7 days. As for the paper cost of oil, we know that’s greatly understated versus price at the export port. I recently provided the link to the report made by Deputy PM Novak to Putin and government members about the fuel situation; here is the official English transcript of that government meeting where Novak’s report is about at the halfway point that’s followed by Nikitin’s related transport report.

Yes, so far the world’s been fortunate the overall oil crisis hasn’t hurt too much, although inflation in some areas is running very high due to supply chain disruption. The cessation of non-oil products isn’t included in b’s report and is arguably where the crisis is most severe. One of the questions Lavrov was asked in Chad today was about Russian wheat shipments and concern over their disruption due to Ukrainian/NATO terrorism in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. Lavrov said its food export commitments will be met, while it was recently announced that Russian wheat exports reached a new record high. China has announced the opening of several new solar and wind power installations and will resume its far offshore wind power program once Typhoon Season has passed.

Bit awkward if you’re an empty tanker in the Gulf of Aden heading towards the Red Sea to fill up at a Saudi terminal and your insurer pulls the plug. What now? A trip via the Cape of Good Hope, up to Gibraltar and through the Med to the Suez Canal?

So the load you were expecting to take on board in 7-10 days time is now 4 to 5 weeks away.

Trump’s war planners, oil companies, see the opportunity of a market without Iranian and Russian competitors. Even with a worldwide recession from high prices and limited supply they will make extraordinary surplus profits. The consequences of this recession they believe their ownership of repressive forces will manage to maintain the status of their rule. They are probably right, but a small probability of revolt will exist, and perhaps will be aided by the example of resistance by Iran and Russia, while the other members of the Global South seethe.

Under Israeli pressure, US seizes Max Blumenthal’s devices on return from Tehran reporting trip

(Excerpt)…..
The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal was targeted by an Israeli doxxing outfit and Laura Loomer when he arrived in Iran to report on Khamenei’s funeral and the war. Upon his return, US agents seized his electronic devices and subjected him to interrogation. “Our reporting at The Grayzone has clearly become a problem for this criminal cartel,” he commented…..

…..Blumenthal entered Iran exactly as reporters working for establishment media outlets like CNN and NBC did – on a press visa granted by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. While in Tehran, he participated in official press events alongside those mainstream reporters, who were also in the country to cover the Ayatollah’s funeral. When journalists from CNN, NBC, and other American outlets returned to the US, however, they were not subjected to the same harassment Blumenthal experienced, nor were they required to give the US government their electronic device……..

…….
almost as soon as he arrived in Tehran, with the Khamenei funeral underway, Blumenthal was immediately subjected to defamatory attacks by Trump-aligned individuals and Israeli organizations supportive of war on Iran. Leading the charge was Canary Mission, an anonymous doxxing outfit based in Israel, which portrayed Blumenthal as an “extremist” who had traveled to Tehran to “honor” the Ayatollah – when he had, in fact, reported on the funeral as a journalist.
Founded in 2015 to ruin the lives and career prospects of university students involved in Palestine solidarity activity, Canary Mission has since been used by the Trump administration to select international students for arrest and deportation. An investigation by the independent outlet Drop Site revealed that the outfit was based out of an Israeli non-profit called Megamot Shalom. Among the top supporters to Megamot Shalom is the Wexner Foundation. Established by the billionaire lingerie tycoon Les Wexner, the foundation that featured Jeffrey Epstein as a trustee……..

This is a very illuminating post which enables an understanding of the economic factors which frame the current war. No one else has so clearly explained why petroleum prices remained relatively stable during the phase of the war that began on 28 February.
With one of Moon’s assumptions I am a bit skeptical. He seems to assume that the US naively assumes that in the next phase of the war the world petroleum economy will be no more affected than it was in the previous phase. I can’t believe they are that naive; at the very least, they must be aware of the perilous state of current US oil reserves.
I suspect they know how catastrophic would be the effect of a war lasting as long as that which began on 28 February but they assume that in a very short time they will achieve the military objectives they were unable to achieve in the previous round.

Russia and Iran continue to export as I type since they have more means than tankers. Russia is shipping massive quantities of LNG via its Northern Sea Route and then there’s Power of Siberia going to China whose capacity was recently increased. Oil and gas still flow to Turkey and onto Southern Europe via Blue and Turkstream. Other pipeline flows from Kazakhstan and the other Stans continue as before. Overall, global energy flows are much more than what emerges from the Persian Gulf region. There are two huge restrictions on the amount of bitumen that can be mined in Canada–water and natural gas–which means that source will cease when those inputs are no longer available regardless the amount of bitumen remaining.

US oil wars…. The US is going for full control of the worlds oil. A monopoly. If they cannot control it, they will destroy it.Since the 1950’2 when UK detonated its first thermo nuke, Britain and US have been in an equal nuclear alliance. The Brits look to be in charge of destroying Russian oil exports. We are given crap about the targeting being to defend Russia’s military in Ukraine but that is just a fig leaf. It is part of the larger Anglo American wars to control the worlds oil.
Driving prices higher is a feature rather than a fault. Whoever controls the oil and can export it will achieve higher revenues.

As per one of the previous threads, I think it was JackG said Europe will be the one cut off with US strategic reserve gone. Us does however control enough oil and has the refining capacity to keep exporting oil and petroleum products to certain countries vassals.
The main US target is China, so the vassals of the Asia Pacific will likely be ok for oil. Australia, Japan, South Korea and Philippines and whatever other states in the region climb aboard the US war on, or blockade of China..

Just paid $3.89 per GALLON at the pump in the ADK, upstate New York.

Considering the price of gas in Ireland is about $1.80 per liter (like much of the EU) and scheduled to go much higher on Sept. 1 with the reimposition of the hated and despised ‘carbon tax’!  Up to $.30 per gallon will not help.

Not buying Russian oil is a huge mistake for the EU, and they are now paying the price in spades……….really dumb!

Posted by: tobias cole | Jul 14 2026 19:54 utc | 28

The numbers.   The oil feedstock is half the price of a gallon of gasoline less gas taxes.  So $6/gal gas less maybe $1 gas taxes implies $2.50 oil cost.  If oil doubles in price, gas would roughly rise to $7.50/gal (6-1 +2.50) if refiners, distributors, retailers hold their margins…which they won’t.  So realistically, doubling the oil price could result in $9/gal gas.   How do you think retired fox news boomers will take to $200 fill-ups in their F250s or Tundras……..or truckers to $11/gal diesel?  Hmmmmmm………..

US military says it is launching additional strikes against Iran

US Central Command said its forces began an additional round of strikes against Iran at 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, targeting capabilities it said were used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The strikes are taking place as American forces prepare to resume the naval blockade against Iranian ports and coastal areas,” CENTCOM said, adding that the blockade would take effect at 4 p.m. ET.

The DJT administration is now willing to suffer the following, all to appease the neo fascists in in occupied Lod:
– Create an economic disaster when oil reserves run out.
– Create massive inflationary pressures
– Undermine the DJT/MAGA hold on the Senate and the House in the mid term elections
– Draw down US stocks of AAD and Cruise missile supplies of all types, to the point of exhausting reserve stocks
– Endangering USN vessels, including massive nuclear powered CVN’s and their escorts in the theater of operations (you would have thought that by now they would have learned their lesson after the billions of dollars of damage were inflicted on USS Gerald R. Ford, by Iranian anti ship missile strikes – by the way the Ford is now at Norfolk out of service for years of repairs)
– Endangering the lives of thousands of US servicemembers stationed in the ME.
– Enabling the possibility of electing radical socialist nut jobs to the US Congress
– Accepting genocidal conduct in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.

All these ‘benefits’ from being a wholly owned sub of crazed Israeli War Criminal Cabinet of Bibi, Katz, Smotrich and Gvir…….all Eastern European transplants to occupied Palestine.  Sad and Pathetic.  The same folks who murdered JFK, and RFK and the UN High Commissioner and the UK Governor and attempted to murder President Truman, and of course murdered hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians, slaughtered between 1947 and 2026.

I know, as a country, America already did fuel rationing during Carter, but the implications here are far more serious as it will coincide with economic depression, not just stagflation (stagflation being what the lionshare of us plebs have felt since the money-printing shifted into overdrive in the last decade or so).

Seems like the 2 fuels we should be concentrating our attention on are 1) diesel and 2) jet fuel.

Shortages of other fuels like gasoline (petrol) will hurt populations worldwide, sure, but not like diesel, which is what moves the majority of stuff around, both by truck and by (non-electric) rail.

And jet fuel is strategic both to int’l. travel and military actions.

Turns out that the availability of these 2 fuels depends a lot on what type of crude oil is available to refineries. Some crudes produce a lot less of these two.

And then there’s fertilizer not moving through the Strait …

The same folks who murdered JFK, and RFK and the UN High Commissioner and the UK Governor and attempted to murder President Truman, and of course murdered hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians, slaughtered between 1947 and 2026.

Tobias, why would you give an actual fuck who murdered JFK & RFK, when both of them were diametrically opposed to the Bircher values that you espouse? They were a couple of commies in your view, no? So getting rid of them would have been the right thing to do in your eyes.

Typical Joos, starts a war and then acts innocent.

Ever noticed that the genocide of Palestinians is never called anti semitism? It is the most extreme form of anti semitism. Yet we are not allowed to use that label.

It is exclusively reserved by and for the the “Joos”. A religion not a race.

Semites was a racial or cultural term, but surprise, surprise! It has been modified as primarily a language classification.

Posted by: John Gilberts | Jul 14 2026 21:43 utc | 55

I admit I struggle to understand how many people analyze the Middle East crisis, and the Empire’s other “reckless adventures.”

When an actor with vast resources, including massive, advanced analytical capabilities, claims to be pursuing a specific goal, yet every action taken points to the exact opposite, should we:

A: Conclude that they are lying about their true objectives?

B: Conclude that they are foolish, incompetent, and deluded about how to achieve those objectives?

Regardless of whether the actor succeeds or fails, that outcome can only be judged against the clarity of the initial objectives.

Concealing and lying about objectives is a crucial aspect of warfare, and the Empire excels at this through propaganda and leaders well-versed in deception.

So why, in the age of artificial intelligence, do people still believe that a war of this magnitude was launched on a whim, without preparation or an assessment of the consequences?

Why does everyone continue to believe the Trump administration wants low oil prices, when their repeated actions point to the contrary?

Why persist in believing that the ridiculously outrageous statements made by a Trump or a Netanyahu reflect the true intentions of an Empire that has managed to dominate so extensively across every dimension for so long?

If the premises are flawed, the entire analysis, and all the conclusions drawn from it, will be flawed as well.

“Founded in 2015 to ruin the lives and career prospects of university students involved in Palestine solidarity activity, Canary Mission has since been used by the Trump administration to select international students for arrest and deportation. An investigation by the independent outlet Drop Site revealed that the outfit was based out of an Israeli non-profit called Megamot Shalom. Among the top supporters to Megamot Shalom is the Wexner Foundation. Established by the billionaire lingerie tycoon Les Wexner, the foundation featured Jeffrey Epstein as a trustee.

Megamot Shalom is a jewish replica of Myrotvorets, an openly neo-Nazi organization established in 2014. Myrotvorets is dedicated to the doxxing, harassment, and physical elimination of critics of the Ukrainian government.

The site publishes a “death list.” Several individuals whose personal information and addresses were published on the site were subsequently assassinated. The site’s operators often update profiles with a “liquidated” tag following news of a subject’s death.

“Myrotvorets gained international notoriety in 2016 when it published the personal information and contact details of over 5,400 journalists and media workers which put the lives of reporters at severe risk.”

Some of the people on the “death list:”

Scott Ritter
Roger Waters, a musician from Pink Floyd
Geoff Young, an anti-CIA Congressional candidate from Kentucky
Tulsi Gabbard
Rand Paul
Glen Greenwald
Viktor Orbán
Gerhard Schröder
Tucker Carlson.
Gérard Depardieu

In short, “Myrotvorets is a doxing website hosted by the CIA and run by the Ukrainian government. It is involved in the killing of many journalists and doxing of children. When someone on the list dies, the word “liquidated” appears over their picture.”
— There is no daylight between zionists and banderites (neo-nazis).

By the way, “Wexner’s financial support—including giving Epstein $200 million and allowing him access to his fortune and properties—enabled Epstein to carry out his sex trafficking network.”

‘Airport for airport, siege for siege’: Yemen issues warning
Yemeni officials say the operation on Abha Airport was a response to the targeting of Sanaa Airport, while UN efforts continue to push for de-escalation.

The Yemeni Armed Forces issued a warning on Tuesday to all airlines against flying through Saudi airspace, saying carriers must take the warning seriously until the siege on Sanaa International Airport is lifted.

The warning was issued through the forces’ Military Media channel, which said Sanaa had activated the equation of “airport for airport and siege for siege.”……..

About 3 days ago thr US had a navy base in Oman that was capable of reloading tomahawk missiles onto US warships, but Iran blasted that base to smithereens.

The next closes base the US can reload its ships at is Souda Bay base in the Mediterranean (2,100 miles away – a month of ship travel to get there reload and return) and the US ships would have to subject themselves to fire from Yemen to get there, and the next closes base after that is Deago Garcia 1,700 miles away (also a month away as the ship flies)

Trump has 7 or 8 US destroyers assigned to Southwest Asia, with each ship having between 56 and 96 tomahawk missiles

Yes, children were sexually abused. Used as sex objects. Which of course is horrendous and despicable and fully deserves punishment (which will probably not happen).

But to claim that children were butchered, murdered, sacrificed at an altar, which is what I take your rhetoric to mean, is ludicrous. That’s what most people take “child sacrifice” to mean. Show me some evidence of that and we’ll talk.

I think this line is worth pursuing.

Notice I say that Epstein is a distraction because it won’t result in anything tangible, like people going to prison or being impeached and removed from office. (If you disagree with this, fine, and we can discuss that. However, I just don’t see any of that happening at this point.) I don’t even think it will have any measurable effect on the midterm elections.

So if that’s the case, then tell me how it is not just a distraction? Sure, it still makes lots of folks here (and elsewhere) grind their teeth, but that only results in worn-down teeth, not any other substantive change in the world.

Feel free to tell me how it is not a distraction. I promise I’m listening.

The Unseen Damage Trump’s Iran Policy is Doing to America /Lt Col Daniel Davis & Mike Adams
https://www.youtube.com/live/5wRXgBt1EB4?si=NZfLVIQYr3EhzSjY

I’m beginning to think the extended closure of the Strait by the US is another intentional attempt at mass depopulation and irreparable economic damage to the world as a whole, similar to the Covid bio-weapon. The effects will cause massive premature deaths, destruction of economies for extended periods, I think this is the goal. Also intentionally destroying the GCC’s total output to weaken or collapse the old petro dollar status quo. It has to be intentional and planned, not just “crazy Trump” because the whole government is on board and all the vassal states elites as well, despite the obvious massive damage to the world economy. A sort of Hail Mary reset.

Thanks for that, one could almost argue the insurance premium is a proxy for a toll fee.

And that might be part of the problem about why the US is desperate not to let this go; when it comes to protection rackets the US really doesn’t like competition, despite its espousal of free market principles…

Not in this corner of the web obviously, but for main populations of countries many just do not have any perspective on events at all. It isn’t even ‘believing’, it is the status quo for their nation, and no amount of saying different is going to persuade otherwise, at most only that some don’t agree.

In reality, there are swathes of any population who either know better, or doubt, but they also know better than to tangle with the presentation.

Add to that that the info-sphere is swamped, people know they will not be heard, or that any momentum will be stiffled or distracted.

Don’t mean to contradict b’s thesis, but China’s capacity to reduce her demands of imported oil (and to a lesser extend, LNG) remains as strong as before (due to her huge reserve, pipelines connection to Central Asia and advanced renewable energy industries.) I won’t be surprise China could reduce her import to a total of 7-10 m bpd from her peak, depending on the oil price. Economic slowdowns in Japan, India, EU and perhaps even US could further reduce the energy demands.

If Trump is playing any form of 3D, 4D or whatever chess– or ‘the cosmos’ is, through Trump et al– it’s that he might be helping  to decline and/or collapse the global economy.

Is that a good thing? It might be, such as from climate-change, general environmentalist, anti-crony-capitalist-plutarchy, and peak-oil standpoints.

It might be a good thing if it reduces the effects on the environment, including the climate, helps to relocalize economies, helps to increase ‘national security’, helps to reduce fuel usage for transportation and even helps to reduce many ‘Bullshit Jobs’, to quote the late David Graeber.

Recall that Trump not only ran on a no-more-wars election platform, but also a bring-back-industry and, as some characterized, a generally isolationist position. He may also be forcing Europe to take a better look at its real neighbors in Russia and the rest of its continent that it shares with them, not the USA.

Recall also that Trump initially was talking up Greenland and Canada, and acted lightly militarily upon Venezuela– all part of the Americas or thereabouts, so more relatively localized.

Recall, too, that the USA is predominantly fracking these days and fracking signifies a generally dwindling resource, much higher up than the lower-hanging fruit that those old oil gushers signified.

Lastly, it may be that the wholesale ‘electrification’ of the economy may be more difficult, if not impossible, to initiate and then operate and maintain at the levels of the current sizes, portabilities and particular forms of energy and energy demands of our current and still predominantly-fossil-fuel-powered global-industrial economy.

So if Trump ‘loses’ ‘the war’, whatever kind of war(s) we are talking about, he might, in a sense, win them and for more than just the USA, if it means global reductions in fossil-fuel energy usage and dependence and general geopolitical relocalizations and reorientations.

Wars are, of course, people, animal, environment, energy and resource-intensive and destructive.
