Ukraine: Long-range Campaign Fails As Russia Hits Back

My plans for today were to write a longer piece about the military situation in Ukraine, but personal maintenance issues interfered with that.

The bullet-point version:

— Two major agglomerations have moved under Russian control:

@Suriyak @Suriyakmaps – 16:16 UTC · Jul 28, 2026

The battles for Chasov Yar and Kostiantynivka ended simultaneously. 🇷🇺🇺🇦

After 9 months of fighting, the city of Kostiantynivka fell under the control of Russian army. This Russian victory has, however, overshadowed another victory of equal significance. After 27 months of fighting, the town of Chasov Yar was completely captured by Russian forces.

This battle, which appeared to be drawing to a close in August 2025, dragged on for several more months, with counter-attacks and infiltrations by Ukrainian forces in the western districts.

Whilst it seemed that the capture of Chasov Yar, situated on higher ground, would allow for a swift conquest of Kostiantynivka, situated on lower ground, it was ultimately the capture of Kostiantynivka that severed the supply lines to Chasov Yar and thus led to the withdrawal of the last Ukrainian soldiers from the town over the past few days.

— Ukraine’s campaign against Russia in the Black Sea has left a landlocked country

Ukraine, with the help of U.S. and British intelligence, had launched a massive campaign against all Russia related shipping in the Black Sea. In a counter-campaign Russia has blocked Odessa and every other outlet to the sea that Ukraine had left. Any ship going to or from Ukraine was and will be attacked.

Ukraine is now landlocked. There will no longer be any sea borne export of Ukrainian crops or metals. Any arms import by sea has ended.

via Strana (machine translated):

One of the largest iron ore producers in Ukraine, Yuzhny GOK, is partially stopping work due to Russian attacks on civilian merchant ships.

This is stated in a statement on the official website of the company.

According to the company, in July, at least 12 civilian ships came under Russian missile strikes, which led to the complication of maritime logistics.

Due to the risks to crews, shipowners suspended voyages to Ukrainian ports. As a result, shipments of iron ore prepared for export have accumulated in the ports and warehouses of Southern GOK.

Due to the inability to ship products, the company is reducing production. …

— Ukraine’s 40-day pressure campaign against Russia has disabled Ukraine’s transport network

In mid June Ukraine had launched a 40-day campaign to “increasing pressure on Russia and pushing Moscow toward ending its war against Ukraine”. Drones were sent to hit hit Russian refineries and, more recently, civilian warehouse infrastructure.

Russia’s response included the destruction of up to a 100 of Ukrainian locomotives. Nova Posta, the official logistic provider for the Ukrainian army, has seen its warehouses destroyed. Some 200 Ukrainian gas station on major roads in eastern Ukraine were attacked and destroyed. Anyone who wants to move in eastern Ukraine has to fill the trunk with canisters as it has become impossible to find a working gas station.

After 30-days of the 40-day campaign have passed, the judgement is in (machine translation):

There was no equalization of opportunities and a turning point in the war: Russia has had and still has an advantage in fire capabilities.

This was stated in a video message by the mobilized editor-in-chief of the Censor publication Yurii Butusov.

“Russia has had such an opportunity from the first day of the war. Russia has destroyed and is destroying our infrastructure, unfortunately, on a much larger scale than we do. Previously, we did not have the opportunity to respond at all, now we do. But this does not mean that our strikes, which are very spectacular, are in themselves a sign of some kind of turning point. […],” Butusov said.

— Several large scale missile attacks have destroyed Ukraine’s long-range drone industry.

Most of the industry was settled in and around Kiev. New missile attacks are expected to arrive during the next days.

All together the recent media campaign which depicted Ukraine on the verge of gaining the upper hand against Russia was just that.

Reality painted a different picture.

You mentioned war with Russia. That’s really the key — how long will Russia, and Putin essentially, prevent the military in Russia from responding to the missile and drone attacks on its territory that are hitting its refineries and now hitting civilian targets, hitting Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the attempt by NATO to put more weapons in Finland and other Baltic countries? How long will Russia refrain from responding by doing what Putin had threatened to do — respond by bombing the factories that make the missiles that are bombing them, the factories in Germany or France or Britain that are providing the missiles? At some point, Russia is now realizing it’s not fighting against Ukraine. Ukraine is the arena for this fighting. The fight is with NATO. Ukraine just doesn’t matter. …

@6 “Why didn’t Russia do this two years ago? When will Russia stop screwing around with two dozen minor attacks each day all along the front with no overall strategy? Concentrate forces for a big push to the Dnieper.  Just bypass the fortified Donbass for now.

My understanding is that the SMO was started to get Ukraine to negotiate, which led to the Istanbul agreement and led to Boris Johnson talking Zelensky out of making a deal. At the time the only part of Ukraine that became Russian was Crimea. After the Istanbul deal fell apart, Putin rejigged and made a move to add the 4 oblasts to the SMO. He somehow thought, mistakenly IMHO, that he could get Ukraine and NATO to make a deal based on Ukraine not wanting those 4 oblasts – since they were killing the people who lived there and turning the ones who survived into second-class citizens. It is that trying to make a deal that has let this thing go on and on. I could see Putin’s point since you do need to live with the Europeans and Ukrainians in the future. However, the NATO/The West just wanted Russia weakened and broken up so it could no longer be a dominant economy. It will be interesting if Russia takes Odessa and cuts the Rump off from the sea, that will make Ukraine a welfare case for the rest of Europe.
Putin’s problem will still be getting a deal. I think that NATO/The West will still be funding random drone attacks for years to come. They still dream of reviving their empires.

Ukrainian nazis and corrupt traitors made an anti-democracy coup and started a war because they wanted NATO, but all that Russia allows them is FAFO.

Ahahahahah!

Every single time, Russia wants peace and no escalatiom, but the Washington DC pigs and their European piglets refuse peace and escalate… by ordering their puppets in Kiev to refuse peace and escalate.

And every single time Ukraine ends up worse, with more destroyd stuff (that Russia refused to destroy before), and fewer territory (that Russia didn’t want, and I remind you that in the name of peace, Russia even refused the Donbass independence referendum results in 2015, so that it could instead sign thr Minsk peace agreements).

If there was ever any doubt, the main condition to be a nazi fascist, or a corrupt traitor on Washington DC’s payment list, is to be a total and complete idiot.

The entire Collective West might look more and more like the movie “Idiocracy”, but Ukraine goes further and becomes a 24/7 “Dumb & Dumber” movie.

I just still don’t understand why Russia and China still refuse to attaxk USA’s military bases and navy directly.
Especially after USA, israel, and Ukraine, all together, are attacking Iran in the Caspian Sea, which is a direct attack against BRICS, against BRI (Belt & Road Initiative, from China), and against INSTC (International North South Transport Corridor, from Russia).

What are Russia and China waiting for?
For Russia, it would be totally justified to sink USA’s armada, after USA ordered the nazis to destroy the Russian Black Sea fleet (that is now afraid to even get out of the Novorossisk port).
And for China, well, it’s obviously a defensive attack, to secure its trade in Hormuz, and sink the pigs before they travel East to militarily blockade the Malacca Straight and wage proxy war in the South China Sea.

Seriously, what am I missing?
Why isn’t that the best course of action? For China and Russia to do combined attacks with Iran, and together sink the entire USA armada, and annihilate their military bases all over Asia!

USA will keep being the aggressor that constantly threatens and escalates.
So, wouldn’t it be better to teach USA a lesson by destroying its projection power?

Perhaps next there would also be conditions for Russia and China and Iran to liberate Venezuela and make sure Cuba has enough deterrence to make the pigs get out of Guantanamo, under the real threat of completely taking Miami out of the map…

Hitler could not be negotiated with.
USrael is worse than Nazi Germany.
So why so much diplomacy and patience and passivity now?!

One of these days, Russian Foreign Minister, Mr Lavrov, said that USatan wants more nuclear armed countries all around Russia and China. In the same week the pig Trump signed a nuclear deal with with the zionist islamic state and dictatorship of Saudi Arabia…

Could it be that Russian and Chinese intell have serious concerns that the lunatics in Washington DC are getting ready for a proxy war with nuclewr weapons, completely sacrificing USA’s vassals?

Well, if that’s so, it does NOT change what I said: USatan just keeps escalating all the time, so it’s better to defeat that entity before it escalates too much.

Unless Russia and China are calculating a better timing where USatan is even more over-extended and more indebted and under the pressure of even greater dedollarization.
If China is waiting for USatan to be the one first activating the proxy war in Taiwan/Philippines, and Russia is waiting for the NATO vassals to shoot first, and Iran is waiting for even more destruction caused by the zionist genocidal entity, then I would say that they are waiting too much and that plan (although only theoretically more peaceful in the current stage) is much riskier than acting right now.

Sure, there will be a moment when Europe has no energy, not enough food, populations even more angered against their NON representative regimes, even more de-industrialisation (because of a similiar approach to sanctions against China as they do right now against Russia ans Iran), and Europeans no longer tolerating any ties with the Washington DC and israeli pigs.

But how much NATO/Pentagon sponsored destruction and CIA/Mossad sponsored terrorism will the world have to endure (ex: the total genocide of Palestinians, war in Cuba, etc) until the West is rotten enough?
Russia and China are playing a very dangerous patience game.

One major error that…seems to persist in Russia’s current leadership is the idea that Imperialism didn’t really exist.  I think that explains Russia’s constant surprise at just how aggressive and treacherous US Imperialism was in dealing with Russia even after the Soviet was destroyed.  I think they really believed that if they just buried the Soviet system they would naturally be treated like any other Capitalist country…this rejection of a core piece of Marxist analysis continues to plague Russia a bit.  The sooner they recognize that Lenin was exactly right in his identification and analysis of the historical movement of healthy young national Capitalism to criminal anti democratic global Imperialism, the better their outcomes will be

The answer to the silly war mongers are

  • Fear of nuclear war Russia because of location is more vulnerable
  • In 2015 and even 2022 Russia was not ready for war. The decade of 1990 had been utterly destructive and catch up needed
  • Dislike of killing Russians in Ukraine
  • Prefer peace and trade
  • Keep China and CSTO on side.

Peter AU 1@ 94, 109:

Hungary and Slovakia are both majority Roman Catholic nations and have been part of the Catholic West for at least 1,000 years. As far as I know, Slovakia came under Hungarian rule about 1,000 years ago and was part of the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918.

I had an interest in the life of Erzsebet Bathory (1560 – 1614) when I was much younger and read stuff online and in print about the crimes (real or not) she committed, her trial, her punishment and the possible reasons her accusers and prosecutors had for persecuting her. One reason was that she was a Protestant who supported her nephew Gabor Bathory’ s rebellion in Transylvania. Her persecutors were mostly Catholic Austrian nobles in need of money and property to support their wars against the Ottomans. Erzsebet Bathory happened to be a rich land-owning widow in her 40s. Prosecuting her and her servants, some of them Slovaks, of killing 300+ young women and girls was a way of getting rid of her and seizing her wealth.

Bathory’s servants were executed and the widow herself was put under house arrest (in Cachtice) for the rest of her life. The walling /  bricking up in her room is an exaggeration.

Of course, I’ll reveal a secret, and my colleague won’t be offended. During the awards ceremony, one of the awardees whispered to me: “We will win. But we need to be bolder.” I really want to. [Putin replied] However, the question arises: “Should we be even bolder?” Just like in the economy, there are risks involved, and the price is our losses on the battlefield. Therefore, we will proceed with caution but persistently and consistently in achieving our country’s goals. And we will achieve them.

Events have been so hectically charged the past few days (not helped by an extreme  —  for my region  — but not critical, ) heat wave that muddled my senses.  At the same time, on the back of an electricity bill envelope ,  I had written those exact words that you have italicized as being important ones spoken by Putin.  I had headlined the segment with a title question:  Navy Day?

I am happy to have my  scribbled enigma be localized by your statement here.  Perhaps tomorrow, all will become clear.  The final sentence, wherever and whenever it was said, is classical Putin:

I think the only reason Putin does not throw all he has into the war is to have reserves in case there is an all out war with NATO and to let NATO know that he still has reserves is equipment and manpower to keep them from venturing an all out war. They only respect force. As onerous as it seems he’s trading time for security.

Thank you for dedicating this lovely presentation to me, Exile.  As I read the explanation I do feel the need to clarify, and I may be off base in doing so because it is so lovely.  I am not sure to what extent your affiliation is with that side of church affairs has boy sopranos in it, possibly the unified Catholic/ Orthodox grouping.  As far as I know, the eastern Orthodox church would have women singing such parts, were it a liturgical element, and I do see that there is a Pushkin poem that is being orchestrated here.  As I said it is lovely, but not a part of the Russian Orthodox choral tradition I am familiar with, liturgically speaking.

I could be wrong, and if so I apologize.  As it is taking place in a Saint Petersburg church, I would view it as a choral performance,  rather  than an element of liturgical practice.  In any case, thank you very much; it was beautiful.

Putin’s achievements are undoubtedly exceptional, but so are his failings—especially his incredible, childlike tendency to believe the fairy tales fed to him by the Empire (Minsk I and II, Istanbul, and the “Last Anchorage”) as if they were the truth, rather than mere ruses designed to prolong the war.

Most of the fighting in Kursk was done by North Koreans. Russian military casualties were small. Many NATO advisors, special forces and even military media personnel died in it. That was also a turning point in mercenaries joining Ukraine. They avoid Ukraine army like the plague thereafter. But the bigger deal was the collapse of the NATO plan to swap land. It failed when Ukies failed to hold on to Kursk and lost anything upwards of 46,000 Ukies dead in the misadventure. It was a triumph for Russia and North Korea. Yes, it took some time but meat grinding Banderites take time. They have some bones.

It is the final moments of centuries old fixation of West with conquering Russia. They believe once Russia conquered it is end of history and global dominion forever. Only Russia stands in the way. Eurasia is the key. The current round started with electing Zelenski. His task was to weaken Russia. But then there was also this problem of Russian allies mainly N Korea, China and Iran. West knew fall of Russia is existential threat for them and they will do everything to prevent it. So, the plan was to take care of them while Ukraine was softening up Russia. But there problems arose. First move against N Korea using S Korean president failed by the vigilant parliament. Then China was to be weakened first by tariffs and second by oil supply disruptions which also failed. Then Iran which is ongoing having failed with decapitation strikes. The problem with West is they don’t have much time as dollar is the lynchpin, fall of it the whole project is doomed forever. With debt approaching 40 trillion and treasury rates going up time is not on their side.  Both sides getting ready. This South China morning post article describes what N Korea is bringing to the fight.
North Korea sending 30,000 troops to Russia is a ‘win-win’: analysts | South China Morning Post

China there were many reports about what they are doing. While direct manpower probably won’t be brought in, we can expect everything else through the vast rail and road routes besides air and satellite. Iran, the attack on Caspian Sea was a warning to cut off the main supply artery with Russia. Difficult to predict the timing of final showdown but due to dollar factor it probably will happen soon. Will Russian deep state go for a leadership change is a question of intrigue. According to Prophet Uebert Angel one of the foremost Pentecost Prophets there will be soft coup at the top under medical reasons.

When you play chess, you don’t throw all you got to try to end quickly. There is no medal for the 2nd in the game (the loser).

The West is at the end of a 500 years rope of domination, with rotten finances, divided nations, and serious (deadly) energy problem starting 2030 (the end of US shale oil). The West is going to throw everything they got in order to obtain a 20-year extension.

With Ukraine landlocked and locomotives destroyed, a huge amount of grain will no longer reach Europe or the flour mills of Turkey. Nato will pay a huge price for its recent heavy drone offensive.Ukraine was set as a bear trap. Russia turned it into a Nato trap. The Rand Corp plainly stated Nato aim was to cause Russia to overreach. Nato has overreached. Slow and boring as far as wars go but Russian movement is constant and carefully planned. The ending inevitable.

On the contrary, European Farmers were opposed to the import of Ukrainian grain, which led to declining prices. Now Ukraine being landlocked, more grain will flow to the EU, aggravting this problem even more. May lead to a total import stop.

There is the always occuring question: Why is Russia fighting so slowly?
Puitin has made a lot of statemnets and remarks and we could put together his strategy as following:
The slow progress of the SMO as the Chechen war strategy: To wind the enemy down slowly until all outside support is faded, to install a friendly government and to make a powerful rebuilding campagin like Russia did in Chechenya. Wich ist now on of the strongest supporters of Putin and one of the most fierce fighting forces within the Russian Army.
Translated to the Ukraine war: To dry out the support form NATO/USA/EU. To watch the decline of the EU countries which they have inflicted on themselves with the sanctinons. To watch the decline of the NATO power (helped by Trumps failed Iran war). At the same time preserving and strenghtening the Russian economy (which means also not to switch to a total war economy) and getting new allies. Plus giving away the westernprovinces with the stubborn russophobes (Putin told about this possibility even in the Tucker interview). The remainig rump Ukraine will get a massive rebuilding program, where Mariupol is an example how it could work.
So in the end in the West the bordering NATO countries will be satified with getting their former territory, which makes them a buffer zone. Odessa will be Russian, preventing NATO support through the Black Sea. The remainig rump Ukraine, which is not destroyed so much an modernized, will be transformed to a Country loyal To Russia. Also because the declining EU is not longer attractive for the inhabitants.
This seems to be Putins Plan. We will see how it works out. But we have to be patient.

Among its other details, the agreement stipulated that Ukraine’s standards had to conform with EU standards. (This might have meant ripping up the country’s railway tracks, which use the wide Russian gauge, to conform with the EU use of standard gauge – even though some current EU members still use Russian gauge.)

Is this documented somewhere that can be publicly accessed? As someone living in EU country with Russian gauge rails this kind of hostility would be even more blatant than other EU demands at the time preventing Ukraine from becoming prosperous trade gate between East and West. As such thorough documentation about it would be of value to me. No vague memories that will be dismissed as disinformation.

I have been thinking similar for some years. Electrical transformers will be a major item as the Ukraine Soviet grid is different voltage to the west. Russia quite likely has them in stock.
Also the ZNPP is siting idle which is the largest power station in Europe, or at least the largest nuclear power station. That along with the two remaining nuclear power plants will likely be more than sufficient to power rump Ukraine.

New Alliance NATO – Ukraine – Israel

Putin is fighting on home turf in an existential war against the mightiest unipolar military power, Planet Earth ever faced. A true East vs. West with active participation of Communist China 🇨🇳. The latter ever growing as a technological competitor to the U.S.

Putin warned that Russia could cut Ukraine off from the sea entirely if Kiev continues its pirate-style attacks on Russian vessels.

No secrets … you have been warned.

Footage released by Russia’s Defense Ministry on Aug. 30 (2025) showed a map behind Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov suggesting Moscow’s potential ambitions to seize Odesa and Kharkiv oblasts.

@slowness of the SMO

Putin yesterday discussed with military personal the question what will the be the role of the armed forces once the SMO is over – will they be needed and valuated as of now?

But the more important point is this (IMO) – NATO is preparing for war with Russia. The SMO will end only after this danger is gone. Imagine, the war in Ukraine stops, the army is send home, reduced, peace. And than a new war starts. Surprise attack a la June 1941. It is much easier to encounter such danger while military operations are ongoing and everybody is on high alert. So, they are going slow. And even the architecture of storage facilities needs to be upgraded – smaller buildings, more fire walls.

Cutting Off the Tracks | Nordic Defense Review – 2025 |

The proposal to physically remove the rail segments that run to Russia and Belarus would effectively cut the tracks at the borders. Supporters argue this would complicate any invading army’s logistics, since historically Russia has used railroads as the backbone of its military operations. The existing cross-border rails are a strategic vulnerability, providing a ready-made route for hostile forces.

@107

Seriously, what am I missing?</p

>Why isn’t .. the best course of action.. for China and Russia to do combined attacks with Iran, and together sink the entire USA armada, and annihilate their military bases all over Asia?!

<=nuclear weapons can guarantee domestic nation state sovereignty but the new threat is two fold:
1. space positioned weapons and technology
and
2. biological warfare which comes in two flavors

a. live active viri and
b. biological logic  transformed into software

I think the slow go is about gaining position advantage and technical dominance in space based and complex weapons that mimic, in their logic, function and capacities, the complexity seen in the biology of living things.

AI technologies are enabling biological traits to be inserted into the logic that drives the software and the design capabilities of hardware that guide weapons and industry..

Clearly if NATO arms its nation states with nuclear weapons, Russia can easily arm its partner states with nuclear weapons..so nuclear is a wash.. Nuclear is going the way of the horse and carriage.

Zelensky May As Well Ask for the DEATH STAR—He’s NOT Getting Munitions | Mark Sleboda

Trump held back-to-back meetings with Zelensky and Netanyahu in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, ahead of a funeral service for Lindsey Graham. The late senator, who is reported to have died hours after returning from a trip to Ukraine to advocate for more war against Russia, would have loved nothing more than the gathering of war criminals who came to honor his legacy as a lifetime Hawk.

International Relations and Security Analyst Mark Sleboda noted that while Zelensky and Netanyahu are both pressuring Trump for more war… the U.S. is quickly running out of munitions, and it doesn’t have the production capacity OR the supplies to change its current predicament…

AI and biological weapons are quite powerful, but Trumps space force also requires kinetic or directed energy weapons. US could have managed to build something in total secrecy, but judging by there public failures to date, I am not sure they are capable. Wonder weapons, Trumps super duper weapons – the rail gun, lasers ect have all fallen by the wayside. As yet they cannot field a basic hypersonic weapon. Dark Eagle and the air launched version now dead eagles. The air launched version based on a tried and tested booster they could not even get to launch from the aircraft properly.

Perhaps Musk is developing some super duper martian wonder weapons.

Ukraine played a key role in drone warfare to succeed in Al-Nusra blitz on Aleppo and Damascus. Ukraine is rewarded with lucrative drone deals with wealthy GCC states.

Erdogan’s self interest to keep Iraqi Kurds out of the war with Iran 🇮🇷 … Kirkuk will be a key transport hub for Qatar-UAE-Kuwait from Persian Gulf. Erbil has been affiliated with Israel and Mossad for decades … watch Azerbaijan turning towards Israel … or Türkiye.

Erdogan is playing all side to position Turkey as an energy hub. All Caspian oil and gas, Persian Gulf gas and likely oil.
A few years back Russia and Turkey done a deal making the the future hub for Russian gas into Europe. If I remember correctly, Turkey will be the middle man, buying from Russia and selling at a markup to Europe. A second Turkstream pipeline is part of that deal.

I was watching the other day a kokhol lamenting about the lack of “resistance” in the “occupied territories” … what a short sight. There is now a lots of genuine resistances in the NATO’s occupied territories, far less genuine in Novorossia.
The important fact is not the “Maxim Krivonos battalion” , it’s the guys beating the TCK in Lemberg.
That’s the problem with ideologues, they loose the ability to deal with facts that don’t fit their narratives.

I was thinking it was Russia, Iran and china that are building these biological and space positioned weapons in secret.. That the reason for The Slow-go in Ukraine and lack of support to Iran is because the weapons emphasis is on Biology and space.

China has make it clear they support nation state sovereignty. Chinese  foreign policies revolve around assisting existing nation states to retain their individual sovereignty (look at UN votes for reference).

I think we are going to see fewer changes in nation state boundaries as time goes on.. Nation states are to be subordinated to global organization. Global organization is becoming a function of infra structure enabled trade.

Global Politics in the traditional sense is taking 2nd place to global trade?  Much like the constitution makes states subordinate to USA federalism, nation states are becoming subordinate to, the group of nations that materially and collectively benefit from a coterie of infra structure enabled trade routes.

That’s the perfect answer for those who are asking why the Russians didn’t go in to rescue the Donbass earlier.    As you say, there are other reasons but those are enough for those who are rational.

As for Putin himself, he must have been astounded in early ’22.  I looked at that time carefully and there are several indications that he was in fact caught off-balance.   Couldn’t believe it was happening.  He was watching the Western Powers forcing a war they could not possibly win.  And doing so at appalling cost  to the Ukrainians and to the great disadvantage of their own peoples.

Astounded and also I’d guess extremely irritated.  There he was, twenty years of reconstruction behind him, quietly shifting his country’s trade away from a decaying West to a resurgent East.  And the decaying West pulls that dumb trick!

The strategy adopted by the Russians thereafter shows that they had a plan prepared for that dumb trick.  No rational government, certainly no competent General Staff, would fail to prepare plans for all possibly eventualities.   But what must have have surprised the Russians when they found themselves at war with us was that they were up against an enemy that had no plans

Most unusual, that.   I’m reminded of a story, possibly apocryphal as all the best stories are, about Sabine Weyand.  She was doing trade negotiation for Brussels during the Brexit episode.   A charming woman, though that’s perhaps not relevant here.  What is relevant  is that she was fearsomely competent, all aspects of the conflict at her fingertips and prepared for whatever might be thrown at her,

She was, however, stumped when the British negotiating team turned up to do battle for Brexit.   “But they haven’t got a plan!  They haven’t got a f- plan!” she was reputed to have said, bewildered by the lack of preparation on the British side.   How can one deal with opponents who don’t themselves know what they are doing?

So it must have been for Nabiullina and Gerasimov, as they were confronted with opponents who hadn’t the faintest idea of how to fight a war.  Whose only  plan A was a hopeless gamble and no plan B prepared.

Though that’s perhaps a little unfair to Biden and Barbarossa Scholz, and now Trump and Merz.  The did and still do have their war fighting strategy.  Shout ever so loudly at the enemy and hope that makes the enemy run away.  All one can say of that strategy is that it works when it works and, as Trump and Merz seem to be discovering with Iran, it doesn’t when it doesn’t.

Russia and China especially are against biological weapons. Although Russia has put out a next generation of nuclear deterrent, Its military R&D is now primarily precise weapons rather than weapons of mass destruction. The kinetic energy of hypersonic which releases a huge amount of energy in a very small are and directed energy weapons.

Russia has had a number of breakthroughs in physics and the defence minister or deputy defence minister a year or so back announced Russian military R&D would be primarily with directed energy weapons. One of their tech breakthroughs has been with the very small and light nuclear reactors which it will be using in its space program. Couple one those nuclear reactors to a directed energy weapon and there is your space based weapons system.

The small reacted Russia invented for the doomsday torpedo and the nuclear powered cruise missile are to be used for their space tug and for their joint venture with China for a lunar research stating. The reactor will power the base on the moon.
China had no problem building the modern and very advanced space station on it own so a base on the surface of the moon is quite doable. The russian nuclear space tug is intended for ferrying the modules to the moon and I would assume ferrying astronauts there and back. I assume the nuclear tug would always remain space based though with perhaps conventional rockets lifting equipment and passengers to the tug.

Reuters “Russia charges Telegram founder Durov with aiding terrorism, he gives Moscow the finger”.

For Reuters an exceptionally childish headline. On par with the British tabloids. Being charged with terrorism by a superpower is nothing to take lightly, especially when their is a huge amount of substance and evidence behind those charges. One day he is likely to be snatched and find himself facing trial in Russia. It might be soon or it might be in twenty years but they they will get him.

Many of the terrorist attacks inside Russia have been facilitated through telegram, but the worst of these is brainwashing Russian minors into carrying out an attack. Many of these attacks are being foiled so it is highly likely the FSB is doing a good job of monitoring the TG messaging in Russia. They have likely broken the encryption.

Directed energy weapons.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/the-f-35-s-new-radar-may-secretly-be-a-directed-energy-weapon-says-the-analyst-who-hunted-the-aurora-spy-plane/ar-AA27iqpy

Sweetman argues that several technological developments have made it possible to install a weapon like this on an F-35.
Modern active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars already use thousands of transmit-receive modules that steer radio beams electronically rather than mechanically moving the antenna. So, if sufficient electrical power is available, he theorizes, those same antennas could theoretically focus intense microwave energy onto hostile radars or communications systems.

And he also introduces some historical context, noting that the U.S. Air Force has pursued microwave weapon research for decades through programs such as the Counter-Electronic High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP), while Britain has also invested in similar technologies for aircraft including the Royal Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon and the future Global Combat Air Program (GCAP).

Perhaps this is why China are cutting back on gallium exports, as gallium nitride is key to much high speed and high power electronics.

When someone you care about dies it triggers a period of reflection and exposes some deeper emotional feelings. Lindsey Graham’s death seemed to do that for the psychos. The funeral ceremonies brought the nazis and zionists together and united their rotten core in a macabre celebration of life
This open display of unity/love/solidarity surfaced with Laura Loomer’s pilgramage to Kiev where she confessed on screen to Zelensky that she had been an “idiot” to not back Ukraine and now she loves the Ukies (she was paid 2 Million for that).
And then there was the love in with bibi, trump and zelenski. Now sister Darlene Graham is going to be senator. kindof like queen for a day.

The Poltava Mining and Processing Plant has announced a shutdown. This is the second time in 24 hours that a major iron ore producer has publicly acknowledged that its export logistics have stopped working.
The previous day, the Yuzhny Mining and Processing Plant announced its shutdown. The timing is no coincidence—the reason for both is the same.
Iron ore is a low-margin, high-volume commodity, profitable only when shipped in large quantities by sea. Land corridors through Poland and Romania are physically insufficient to accommodate such tonnage and eat up the margins with the transport time. As soon as shipowners refuse to call at Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Yuzhny—and after the attacks on merchant vessels, they refuse—the entire supply chain comes to a standstill.
At the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant, three of its four contracted vessels are blocked in ports, and one is damaged. Warehouses and port terminals are crammed with unshipped goods, leaving no room to store new production.
The confluence of factors is more important than any one of them individually. In the winter, the plant was shut down for 67 days due to power outages. A naval blockade was added in the summer.
Zelenskyy’s 40-day operation is proceeding according to plan.

Thanks. That’s very interesting. Key to something like that for a space based weapon is the energy source as all directed energy weapons to be of use require massive amounts of power and this is where Russia is now well ahead.
Years ago when the Americans could still build stuff they built a rocket or chemical fueled laser mounted in I think a large Boeing aircraft as part of their R&D.

Telegram has been used constantly by American terrorist groups. It was heavily used by the likes of ISIS and AQ in Syria and the other assorted hairy’s around the world that are part of the US war of terror.

I don’t know if he still retains his Russian citizenship as he is a Russian, but prior to 2022 he spent a lot of his time in Russia.  The Russians tried to get him to hand over the encryption codes to the FSB but without threatening him with arrest or anything. France on the other hand did arrest him and I think he was only released after handing over the codes.

Refusing to hand over the codes then refusing to report terrorist activity to the Russia authorities makes him an accomplice, a facilitator of terrorism.

You can try Googling “EU Ukraine Agreement 2012” and see if the search engine digs up a PDF of the document that Yanukovych was supposed to have signed. There is a section buried in the document that says Ukraine would have to modify its standards to meet EU standards – the language is vague and can be interpreted broadly to mean that Ukraine’s railway network and train carriage stock would have to comply with EU standards. Yes. That section by EO – very much so. That was very well put.
What I remember was the deep worry that showed on Putin from the time he issued the mutual security proposals until several months onto the SMO when he was back to his usual self. His countries economy had safely navigated the sanctions from hell, the attacks on the Russian currency and stockmarket had been defeated and he SMO was going to plan.

Whats that saying about war – ‘the best laid plans often disappear with the first battle’ and Putin would have been well aware of that. But the Russian plans were good and they safely sailed through everything the west could throw at them. A huge workload on Putin and the Russian leadership though in the initial months.

And here was me thinking that the F-35 had their radar substituted by ballast because the radar could not be built due to shortage of materials… What a cunning ploy – these US military men misdirect the masses with admissions of incompetence; and then by pure sleight of hand substitute a doomsday directed energy weapon while onlookers were distracted.

Now we just need the usual cheer squad to jump aboard and explain how the directed beam works (phase controlled interference – we all know that) and how it focuses the energy – a complete mystery! It must be new physical principles

The big picture is this.

Nato logistics in eastern/central Ukraine basically collapse due to the true, enforced blockade of Odessa, destroying gas stations west of Dnipro, between Dnipro and Uman and Dnipro-Krivoy Rog, Kiev and Kharkov, Dnipro and Kharkov.

That makes everything a hell of a lot difficult for Nato. The knock-on affects also extend to drone launching platforms operated by truck-trailers. Drone launching areas that attack north or central Russia should be pushed back further west, easing the task of monitoring/discovering incoming drones and giving more warning time.

The supply lines disrupted to Dnipro and to Kharkov should facilitate the fall of those fronts.

Nato response is more terror attacks wherever/whenever it can, which is what we see.

Slavyansk is a big open-air POW camp for the large remaining chunk of AFU deployed there.

Basically as long as RUAF enforces the Odessa blockade and keeps up hitting gas stations Nato is on the ropes.

For the first time West is losing escalation dominance. Besides houthi and rebels in Iraq, imagine what China can do with Taiwan. Also NKorea there.

In much of the west there is a big swing to the right as a response to the last decades of so called western liberalism. Many now blame that on falling living standards. The swing to the right will be a similar extreme, not just to the conservative right, but to the fascist right. It is happening here in Australia now, extreme right topping recent polls.

If that continues, the next election may well see Australia in full on fascism. The Abbot Morrison gang of the Australian liberal party (Conservatives) were in for a term or two but got hammered at the last election and it went back to the left.
The fascist faction are now putting up a new face with grass roots street creds. I voted for her back in the late 90’s or early 2000s for a state election as she was not part of the duopoly or Tri-opoly here in Australia. Different person now and big money is backing her. If she and here party is voted in at the next election, Australia is fully screwed. Those backing here include some of the Abbott Morrison gang plus a lot of big money. They want to privatise everything that has not yet been fully privatise. Hospitals, education ect.

Australia will be like the US where many cannot afford a good education or health care.

The US which has being at war for most of its existence has a large war budget. Despite being a war state , the US appears to be unprepared for war when Trump ran into Iran . When war starts circling a nation , history tells us it is economic output that usually wins the war . The first order of war is to get your economy humming and producing the necessary outputs to engage . This can take time , as very few countries are on war footing during times of peace. How long it takes to get on war footing depends upon the nation . It appears Iran has being expecting war for decades and has prepared itself  for that outcome .  The crunch on crude will definitely affect the ability of many nations to militarize up as will supply line restrictions to products needed for military use . Then there is the country “warring up “ populations  to consider . Maybe it is just better to get rid of your leader than to die and suffer in their war .  This may happen to Trump in a few months as the American people decide who they vote for in the midterms.  If Trump gets neutered  in the midterms , a shift will occur . How the Russian leadership decides to proceed with its SMO is its own business and it gets tiresome reading the rants of armchair generals arguing on the net about how they would orchestrate the war on Russia’s behalf. Russia needs its population on board fully , the economy producing , supply lines insured, armed forces at the ready and support from allied nations . Russia will engage the Russia way whether it meets anyone approval or not . Ukraine was gifted a beautiful country so long sought by Ukrainian nationalists after the break up the Soviet Union . Such a young country a few decades old yet Ukraine wasn’t able to avoid civil war which turned into a NATO Russian conflict which one of the outcomes may be the disappearance of Ukraine as a nation state .

US and EU are not yet bankrupted
Posted by: paddy | Jul 28 2026 19:06 utc | 16

Bankruptcy or not

no cannon fires and no F-35 or Eurofighter flies on the strength of the Euro or the Dollar alone. The Eurozone—and Europe as a whole—lacks raw materials and, in part, the know-how and practical experience that go beyond the promotional videos of their tanks and equipment.

In the US, there is also a lack of security for shareholders regarding dividends; after their “war junk” failed so embarrassingly, the military-industrial oligarchs no longer trust their own designs. This means nothing gets built unless it secures long-term contracts and yields high dividends—often generated not by the weapon itself, but by the maintenance of technology riddled with flaws and defects.

A prime example is hypersonic weaponry—specifically, guided hypersonic missiles. WHEN did the Russians field their first hypersonic weapon in actual combat? Four or five years ago. Where does the West stand right now with its incredibly expensive development efforts? Aside from technical knowledge, these require raw materials that the West lacks—or lacks in sufficient quantity or quality. This isn’t necessarily about China’s rare earth elements; the Russians certainly didn’t go asking Beijing for help when they were developing hypersonic tech back then.

Russia is arguably the ONLY country in the world that could survive in complete isolation—given its vast size, it could even survive a nuclear war. Even the US does not possess enough nuclear bombs or missiles capable of penetrating defenses and reaching their targets to render the entire country uninhabitable. Everyone posting here overlooks this fact—or simply cannot fathom the sheer scale involved, even if they live in the US. Yet, every commentator here acts as if they could… which naturally makes many of the Kremlin’s strategic decisions seem baffling. The country simply CANNOT be fully covered by air defenses—not even 10% of it. Germany, by contrast, is like a parking lot—it can’t even cover 6% of its territory with air defenses; France manages only about 5%, and Italy a mere 2%. A single nuclear bomb detonated within those areas would likely cause far more damage than three dropped behind the Urals.

Just a side note…
Ergo, the West can plan to ramp up military production, but raw materials and skilled workers don’t just fall from the sky—nor do the guaranteed profits and dividends…
Then again, maybe Putin will sell them titanium, steel, coal, neon gas, and the like.

Right.

Before the Japanese attack, the entire US was viewed globally as a backward, antiquated industrial nation with a tendency to revert to an agrarian economy—essentially resting on its laurels with oil and wheat.

Back then, the government managed to switch to wartime production in a short time, as we know…

BUT

This industry—both the old and the newly created sectors—realized one thing immediately: there is more money to be made in war than in civilian products… so, customers and consumers (to use up the goods) had to be found. As evidenced by:

Over 200 to nearly 500 deployments: Depending on the counting method and definition (whether small naval interventions, covert operations, or major wars like Korea and Vietnam are included), statistics range from around 200 major interventions since 1950 to nearly 500 military actions worldwide since 1776.

It is apparently a lucrative business.
And without NATO, about half of those deployments would disappear—taking 90% of the profits with them. But NATO needs more than just billions for weapons… NATO needs a reason to exist; NATO needs an enemy… otherwise, the “8-billion-strong mob on the street” wouldn’t play along.

Why didn’t Russia do this two years ago? When will Russia stop screwing around with two dozen minor attacks each day all along the front with no overall strategy? Concentrate forces for a big push to the Dnieper.  Just bypass the fortified Donbass for now.

1. Russia is fighting a war against NATO and the puppet Ukrainian regime NOT the Ukrainian people hence it’s a “SMO” in Russia’s eyes … not a war. Destroying the economy of Ukraine causes undue harm to ordinary Ukrainians.

2. The Russian military has to defend their entire border against NATO while fighting the SMO in Ukraine. Every day NATO aircraft prowl the Russian borders gathering intelligence and testing Russian air defences. NATO / US navies operate in the seas around Russia. Russia has to keep in reserve enough air defences and standoff strike weapons to counter these threats.

Look at the situation the USA has gotten itself into in Iran. They are burning through their standoff munitions and interceptors to the point where they can no longer maintain continuous operations against Iran. The USA / NATO are trying their best to goad Russia into the same predicament but Russia doesn’t take the bait.

3. Russia has their own people and economy to keep happy and prosperous while fighting this war. A fast rate of advance = more casualties. More casualties = discontent. Mobilization for full scale war = public debt and inflation. Putins government isn’t going to spend Russian lives and ruin the Russian economy to make a few armchair pundits happy.

General Factotum – I say, old boy, no need for that. We know that they are having trouble with radar production, we know the Chinese are restricting gallium exports which may be related to their troubles. But the point of the article was that the F35 systems upgrade in the pipeline shows a big increase in the power supply needed, bigger than radar demands alone would need. So he’s wondering if its going to have directed energy like a focused microwave beam. Kind of thing you could use to fry drone electronics.

Well, the perspective

on that probably always depends on what you’ve smoked, the quality of the stuff, and where it came from… whether dessert was served in pill or syringe form, and whether the great “Prayer Father” Trump is standing at the door. But then you have to weigh up which of his intelligence agency’s storytellers happened to be on shift—and what their habits are when it comes to explaining world events in a way older folks can understand…I suppose every one of those intelligence agency storytellers is a bit different…

Asian Tigger could tell you a thing or two about that—he actually seems to believe the daily reports… oops, I mean fairy tales.

Posted by: HB_Norica | Jul 29 2026 14:01 utc | 197Who remembers the problems regarding the alleged ammunition shortage back during the Bakhmut campaign?Putin had to realize that he couldn’t simply have the entire military-industrial complex working solely for the SMO.

He needed to build up reserves and generate surplus production just to be able to equip new troops… North Korea stepped in to help.According to Röber (Anti-Spiegel), Russia’s industry is currently operating at only about 30% military capacity—meaning a wartime economy—yet doing so very successfully, thanks to vast resources.

They had to replenish ammunition stockpiles, adequately supply the SMO, develop new systems and put them into mass production, and so on.According to Röber, not a single *new* tank was delivered to the SMO in 2026; instead, a completely new army was trained and equipped but has not yet been deployed.

One wonders why… Putin has to reckon with the possibility that the West might suddenly strike—whether to protect Odessa from being taken over (something the French are reportedly planning) or to protect Kaliningrad (as hinted at by the Baltics and Poland).

That means he needs thousands of missiles—conventional missiles—and possibly millions of drones and billions of rounds of ammunition. All fifty or so submarines have left their ports, with the most modern ones untraceable by NATO. Does he know something? Does he suspect something? Given the idiots in Germany—who now want to build their own nuclear warheads—anything is possible. They have the delivery system for it, and that system is independent of the US—something the British cannot claim. The Taurus missile was always nuclear-capable; people just didn’t talk about it because Germany didn’t possess its own warheads.
