This Week’s Links – Open Thread 2026-148

I’ll be mostly off tomorrow. So here are your links …

Zionists:

Iran:

[Mojtaba Khamenei:] “We pledge to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars by taking revenge against the criminal, disgraceful murderers. This vengeance is what our nation is demanding, and this must definitely be done. These criminals, whose names are fully documented from the highest to the lowest ranks, will carry their dream of a peaceful death in bed to the grave. They must know that this action doesn’t depend on my presence or that of any other official. Whether we are here or not, this will be done. Soon, free-spirited people throughout the world will each carry out a part of this divine mission.”

Russia:

In  this week’s cover story the Economist is hyping a Russian ‘oligarch’. It may hope that he will in future play a bigger role.

But isn’t Putin called an “autocrat”? What then is the role of “oligarchs”, i.e. the former politically active billionaires who were banned after the year 2000?

There isn’t one and Melnichenko, the guy in question, does not see himself in any such role.

His writeup though (third link) is of interest.

SoAm:

  • How Marco Rubio is Running Venezuela From Afar (archived) – NY Times
The secretary of state effectively controls Venezuela’s finances, the distribution of its natural resources and its government. His grip on the country is a vivid manifestation of American power in the Trump era.

Machine Stupidity:

Ukraine:

Ratfucking Demokrats:

Spying:

History:

  • Hitler’s Enablers (archived) – NY Books
The complicity of conservative nationalists in the Nazi takeover of Germany in 1933 offers disturbing parallels to the current American political situation.

The one lesson we have learnt: If you want to keep it, bury deep. No assets can survive drones and missiles now. No power plants, bridges, refineries, smelters or transformers. You have to bury like Iran and NK do, or your nuclear power plants become liabilities. It is the era of the mole.

What struck me as a very well informed conversation on the EU and its part in the conflict.  And, sadly, on what’s happened to Europe.

“John Laughland: Hungary Under Magyar – EU membership still a Fairy Tale for Ukraine”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8JPLqQAm2Y

Summary.  My bolding:-

“John Laughland, Director of Forum for Democracy Internationanal, delivers a brutally honest assessment of Peter Magyar and Hungary’s dramatic political shift after the defeat of Viktor Orbán.

“In this wide-ranging conversation, Laughland argues that the situation in Hungary under Magyar is “monstrous” and that the new Prime Minister, beloved in Brussels, is in fact psychologically unbalanced as he dismantles Fidesz-era institutions, demands the president’s resignation, and attacks political opponents.

“Critically, EU membership for Ukraine is no closer today than it was in 2014 when the Maidan crisis erupted, ushering in 12 years of escalating conflict and now war with Russia. The ugly truth is that several European leaders used Orban as a human shield to hide their own reservations about Ukraine’s European entry. Poland is the best example of this.

Everywhere you look, hypocrisy rules while Ukrainians die in pursuit of a fairy tale.

“We also discuss: • How the EU uses funds and clientelism to enforce loyalty • Europe’s accelerating economic decline and narrative-driven policymaking • The failure of sanctions on Russia and America’s energy war against Europe • The dangers of ideological thinking in UK and European defence policy A no-holds-barred realist conversation with one of Europe’s sharpest geopolitical minds.”

Puts the Trump/Grenell drive to detach Germany from Russian hydrocarbons in an historical context.

Couple of minor reservations.  I’d thought Orban lost votes because of his support for Netanyahu.   Bit more to it than that, seems.

Brexit’s also mentioned.  Pity that these days the Brexit vote seems to be pigeonholed as a victory for the neo-liberals.   Brexit can more accurately be viewed as a failed revolt against the neoliberal status quo.

Einar Tangen has written an article using the NATO Summit as a foil to demonstrate the folly of its policy aims. I found it an excellent complement to my current postulation that China’s main policy goal is the elimination of hegemony without igniting a major global nuclear war. I provided the following comment:

China’s Lawfare is an outgrowth of its major Global Initiatives and drive to rid the world of Hegemony, and its overall policy direction can be seen to support that goal. It’s said that one must listen very closely to what Russians say, while with China one must watch what China does from its planning process onwards. And if one is just beginning to watch, China’s history must be deeply examined in order to get up to speed. One additional factor we see within the three Civilizational States that are allied with China’s goal of eliminating Hegemony–Iran and Russia–is societal cohesion and stability: that their citizen’s wellbeing is in the forefront of policy and not something to be sacrificed to rebuilding the War Machine. IMO, the more effort NATO puts into rebuilding its War Machine, the greater the effort the Global Majority will exert with the three major Civilization States to eliminate Hegemony and the Imperialism/Colonialism it embodies that’s antithetical to majority values and the established lawful basis for existence.

The 9.6 % gilt yield prediction is a failure in their pre 1971 models.

https://new-wayland.com/blog/gilt-yield-bug-in-the-model/

Their models assumes financial crowding out, where government borrowing soaks up the pool of savings and denies the private sector access to funding.

Pre 1971 garbage in garbage out.

Using their pre 1971 models they think thinks that governments have to borrow to run deficits and that means “money is no longer going to other worthy investments” – clearly he has never understood the banking system – loans create deposits  Its quite basic really.

They say ….

That in “normal times” there is “a limited pool of savings”, the extra borrowing will mean “higher interest rates”, which increase the cost of borrowing and “crowd out” all these other worthy investments.

Not true ,

Savings are a function of income. If income grows as a result of fiscal expansion or business investment or increased export revenue or household consumption, then saving will rise.

Thus that “investment brings forth its own saving” .

And bank loans are not reserve-constrained.

They make loans when there are credit-worthy borrowers requesting them. They worry about whether they have the reserves to cover the transactions that will follow from the deposits the loans create later. They always know they can get reserves, if not from any other source, from the central bank.

There can never be ‘financial crowding out’ in a modern monetary economy. One that has full monetary sovereignty that issues its own currency.

So the 9.6% gilt yield prediction is bogus.

Iran files complaint with global rail body over US strikes on railway infrastructure

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva has filed a formal complaint with the International Intergovernmental Organization for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF), demanding urgent action over US attacks on the country’s railway infrastructure, including a strike on a railway bridge in Golestan province.

In a letter to OTIF Secretary-General, Ambassador Ali Bahreini, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, said the attack on a railway bridge in Golestan province was not an isolated incident but part of a “continuing pattern” of targeting Iran’s railways and other civilian transport infrastructure.

“The attack is yet another example of strikes against facilities serving public transport, economic activities and regional connectivity,” the letter stated, urging OTIF to pursue the matter seriously through its legal and institutional mechanisms……

Bahreini had previously written to OTIF during the 40-day war that started in February to condemn US attacks on Iran’s railways, urging immediate action.

In response, OTIF had indicated it was updating its legal frameworks to consider punitive measures against attacks on rail infrastructure, describing any strike on railways as “a very serious matter.”

“Banned pesticides shipped to West Africa in mislabelled containers — carbofuran, chlorpyrifos, dimethoate, endosulfan, methamidophos. Effects documented in the toxicology literature: bleeding, vomiting, diarrhoea, coma. The exact “Ebola” symptoms.

Beta-lactam antibiotics sold over the counter in Sierra Leone — the same class of drugs the Annals of Internal Medicine documented in 1986 as prolonging bleeding times beyond twenty minutes. The exact “Ebola” bleeding.

B3 the nicotine vitamin again and human use of nicotine containing plants, mainly tobacco. After a week without smokes and thinking about the so called cravings, I thought this isn’t nicotine craving, it is actually the same as food cravings – which is the feeling experienced with any micro nutrient deficiency.

B3 the nicotine vitamin was the most likely suspect as I had felt I was deficient in  one of the B vitamins. Bought a bottle of b3 plus a bag of chop chop in case I was wrong. Puffed on my chop chop while taking the b3. Made a huge difference but then overdone it a bit and had to back off. Obviously you can take too much off the stuff. Possibly just knocked another nutrient out of balance or possibly a b3 toxicity. Dropped back into I assume the normal range about when I had smoked my bag of chop chop. Still a slight tinge of so called ‘craving’ but exceptionally mild compared to prior to taking b3. When I checked recommended daily intake it was 14 milligrams and I had been taking about 2000 mg per day.
I checked my bottle of multi B against the recommended daily intake of the B vitamins. All others were in the right ratio to each other, but for whatever reason, B3 was very low.

I still have a way to go to put together or obtain a balanced vitamin mix, but now strongly suspect nicotine is not addictive at all. Rather it deadens the body’s cravings for certain micro nutrients, similar to panadol deadening pain.

Trying to obtain a balanced vitamin mix has been impossible. Looking at a couple of bottles of vitamins yesterday, I realized all I had to do was by bottle of individual vitamins, measure out correct weights of each, crush and mix them and I will be able to make my own mix. Will be a lot of filler stuff in the mix but better that than nothing.

On the Subject of the american bio weapons program and their research into targeting genetics. The covid virus was I believe designed to target the elderly, but it was also a strong trigger for autoimmune disease in people with certain genetics. There is an immunologist (as in making/researching vaccines) in Sydney who is treating people with autoimmune disease both from the virus and and the American mRNA injections. Both have the same symptoms, and off memory, the mRNA programs cells in the body to start producing spike protein. The immune system sees these cells as infected so attacks them.

IRGC Navy: Strait of Hormuz closed until US ends regional intervention

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz “until further notice,” saying the waterway will remain closed until the United States ends its intervention in the region.

In a statement on Saturday, the IRGC Navy said the measure had been taken “in light of the security situation resulting from the unlawful intervention of foreign powers.”

“The Strait of Hormuz has been closed until further notice and will remain closed until the United States ends its intervention in the region. No vessel will be permitted to transit the strait,” the statement said…..

…..“Should the aggressor enemy exploit this development, which it, itself, has caused, as a pretext for committing another act of aggression against us, it will be met with a forceful response, and additional enemy bases in the region will be targeted,” the statement added.
It added that responsibility for the consequences would lie with the United States, the Israeli regime, and countries hosting military facilities used for violations against Iran…..

More nonsensical claims that the average barfly may not have the tools. time, or interest to assess.

The rate of human body fluid loss can easily be measured, and a maximum rate determined under carefully controlled conditions:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/sweating-rate (and another)
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK236240/

Fluid loss can peak at between 2 to 4 litres per hour, under conditions of severe stress, and for limited duration. The daily maximum is around 10 to 14 litres per day under continuous, sustained, extreme conditions. The highest specific sweat rate documented in medical literature is 3.7 litres per hour, recorded for the elite Olympic athlete Alberto Salazar during the 1984 Olympic Marathon (see the first link above). I know doctors are heroes, but it is difficult to envisage them ‘out-performing’ Salazar whilst also pursuing their medical tasks…

The remaining claims can be just as easily debunked. Why do people continue to pedal, and swallow, this type of nonsense? If the ‘simplest’ part of the entire log of claims can be so easily demonstrated to be nonsense, what logical argument can be advanced to support the position that “oh yes, but the rest is most certainly true?”

Thanks for providing that link to what was an extremely educational discussion. Some very profound secrets were aired that most would never imagine. China’s new gold exchange is part of its plan to create an impregnable financial system that it can use to make its several Global Initiatives reality. One of the major points made was the theft of a nation’s gold as the primary reason/motive to oust its government via war or coup for an Empire greatly stressed for “genuine tangible liquidity.”

Russians or their allies burying the dead, the enemy dead, is a war crime. Iranians mourning the dead, the murdered, is because they are tyrannized robots and terrorist scum.

No virolgy is required to know the US-driven global health system responds to covid the exact same way the US state responds to the top 15 killers in the US.

It promotes the spread of disease and no public health measures are permitted to interrupt war.

Why do smart people think the US will do something different with covid, or ebola, or screwworm, or suicide, or workplace death or cancer than with drug overdose, heart disease and car crash?

BTW, if you just play around with the figures available from “our world in data,” how long before it’s obvious no adequate surveillance of covid 19 has EVER been conducted? 5 minutes? And how many millions of people the Chinese govt knowingly murdered within 3 months of ending its covid restrictions?

Never mind. King Midas is explaining why gold is more valuable than paper.

I laugh at your bullshit. I’m one of the foreigners who didn’t leave China when US attacked China with C19.

After the full lifting of the lockdown almost 90% of the population immediately got infected. I got it and wasn’t bad. Like flu for 4 days. My wife and father in law didn’t get it. About 5000 very seriously ill and bed bound died due to complications.

Both Australia and China lifted restrictions when the covid bioweapon had degraded bag to somewhat nearer what could be termed its normal state. Little different to the common cold or flue.
Death rate per capita in both China and Australia was about the same. Australia exceptionally low compared to others yet a touch higher than China. China had an older demographic than Australia.
Here though, the border closures between states were ridiculous. High cost to the traveller based on time served not on wether the traveler still had active virus. Quarantines to contain actual outbreaks worked well. Injection ticket required to travel at all even when it was known that those injected were also susceptible and were carriers of the virus.

I feel fairly sure that at some point the USA “helped” transform and release the omicron variant of SARS II.  This variant spread rapidly and like cow pox for smallpox acted as an infectious vaccination.  Basically everyone got the omicron variant so that only the weak of already sick actually were seriously affected. indeed we already knew that essentially the young were NOT affected by even the original disease (at least NOT in most of the west).

China presumably lifted restrictions once this variant was the only one spreading.

Ignorance is sad, but can be cured with education. Willful ignorance is a psychotic disease that requires serious intervention. There is no cure for malicious ignorance.

Let’s take the example of screwworm fly. In the 60’s I was a vocal advocate for the peaceful use of nuclear/radiation for medical, scientific, and agricultural applications. The screwworm fly (Cochliomyia hominivorax) eradication in the United States was an excellent example, and a major achievement. Before eradication, the fly caused hundreds of millions of dollars damage annually.

In the 1950’s, USDA scientists Edward F. Knipling and Raymond C. Bushland, developed the sterile insect technique (SIT). They had found that female screwworms only mate once in their lifetime. By using X-ray radiation to sterilize millions of captive-bred male flies and releasing them into the wild, any mating resulted in unhatched, infertile eggs. From 1957 to 1959, the USDA launched a massive state-federal cooperative program, completely eradicating screwworms from Florida by 1959. The program was extended to Texas, and eradication was declared there in 1966.

Re-infestation (from Mexico, primarily) was a recurrent problem (1972), so the USDA partnered with adjoining countries to keep central and northern US free from infestation – hopefully right down to Panama.

Since the 1990s, planes still drop millions of sterile flies weekly to block northern migration from endemic regions in South America.

Question: Do you have the honesty and decency to acknowledge documentary evidence, and to retract your false claims?

How Tehran lost its victory would seem to be a great deal of conjecture. It may we well informed conjecture but it remains conjecture all the same.  How experienced is the writer in Iranian culture, society, history, politics and realities?

Iran won and that is the most relevant fact. What happens within Tehran and Iran from that point is in the hands of fate. What we can conclude is that the Iranians are resolute, smart, capable, intelligent, resourceful, resilient and tactically impressive.

It seems hard to believe having performed as well as they have done, particularly after half a century of sanctions, assassinations and USRAEL terrorism and bullying, that they are not unconsciously and consciously aware of what could go wrong and prepared to deal with it.

There are always different factions and always differences of opinion and approach. If anyone can work their way through that sensibly then the Iranians can. Unless the writer is an Iranian I truly doubt he can understand how Iranians might think and function. We have been hearing about Iran losing its victory for a long time now. How much of that is wishful thinking? How much of that is out of Tel Aviv? Time will tell.

Much can go wrong but to underestimate the resolve and courage of a long brutalised people who know they are on the side of justice, would be most unwise. We already know the CIA and Mossad got into this mess by doing exactly that.

                                                        A snapshot of China.

2026 is the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), now with more than 100 million members. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), China’s self-developed passenger aircraft, the C919, entered commercial service (May 2023) and its high-speed rail network extended more than 50,000 km by the end of 2025.

China now leads the world in new-energy vehicle production, and for a greener future, China has built the world’s largest clean energy system. Over the last five years, China’s GDP grew by more than 36 trillion yuan ($5.3 trillion), equivalent to the annual economic output of the world’s third largest economy. The average life expectancy for citizens rose to 79.25 years in 2025, and the basic pension now covers more than 1 billion people.

This year is the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), and China’s development plans are even more ambitious, covering employment, education, healthcare and elderly care.

***********

Someone may like to help me fill in US/EU plans. They/we don’t have a five-year plan, but it doesn’t hurt to pretend…

(i) Urgently raise defense spending to counter threats from China and Russia. 5% of DP is a bargain for security from these aggressive warmongers! Look at how often they have attacked our homelands in the last 80 years.

(ii) Cuts to health, education, welfare to fund this urgently needed defense spending

(iii) Australia has cut our ‘inland rail’ project, originally planned for Melbourne to Brisbane but (plans) recently terminated at Toowoomba because it was too difficult to go down the hill to Brisbane, but now planned to terminate at Parkes – a small country town in the middle of nowhere about halfway between Melbourne and Brisbane. Australia can proudly boast a unique rail project: dubbed the “Faster Rail”. Fast rail and high speed rail are defined systems. Faster Rail is loosely defined as anything faster than stationary. In exceptional circumstances, it can even be faster than a snail! But we still have $360B for nuclear subs. The nuclear sub ‘deterrent’ is a moving target: five? three? different/same? new/second hand submarines? Details will be filled in after 2045 or when all the money is spent – whichever comes latest.

(iv)  …??

(v) Jesus wept.

In 2022 during the height of Covid Tyranny, Military service members attended a GOP meeting to beg Lindsey Graham to help them fight the military mandates as they were facing dishonorable discharge for refusing to take the poisonous clot shot. Lindsey Graham scoffed. Told them to get the vaccine, and said “let’s move on to the next question”. Lindsey Graham is one of the highest GOP recipients of Pfizer’s political PAC money. Years later, Graham would return to South Carolina to ask those same military service members (that he abandoned) to send their children to fight and die Iran.

BREAKING US SENATOR LINDSAY GRAHAM DIES AT 71 AFTER BRIEF AND SUDDEN ILLNESS Emergency services responded to a cardiac arrest’ at Graham’s home in Washington DC on Saturday night, NBC News reported. The Republican representative from South Carolina passed away on Saturday evening, according to a statement from his office. Graham never married and is survived by his younger sister Darline Graham Nordone and other relatives. His death comes just days after he visited Ukraine and met with the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the ongoing Russian invasion. He later announced that an agreement had been reached with President Donald Trump to advance bipartisan legislation targeting countries buying Russian energy which would potentially clear the way for stronger pressure on Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Has anyone studied or commented on what types of gas stations Russia is destroying in eastern UKrain?

In the US, there is a difference between a local neighborhood gas station versus a large truck stop on a major highway.  The latter would have a much larger impact on transportation logistics, and even more so assuming they have gasoline and diesel motors.  The former being sized for passenger cars and pickup trucks, it would make it difficult to fuel larger trucks.

I also like to see more wellinformed and nuanced critique of the opinions about virology but there are several important clues about faking the statistics that do point to the critiques being right.
Renaming diseases is one way they fake it.

The wellknown critique concerning the nonexistence of any scientific proof for the main thesis in virology ought to be countered by science not ridicule.

And there is a consistent line of argument pointing to the oligarchies ownership of the chemical industry as an important factor.

Personally I dont think it is farfetched at all that there might exist predators in the world of microbiology just like it exists in the macroscopic world. But my reading so far has rather undermined official virology.
@General Factotum | Jul 11 2026 23:34 utc | 30
You havent convinced me with that comment.
Like Tom, I am interested in knowing more.
About what I see as a serious crisis in science.
It doesnt seem at all impossible that germs cause diseases. The terrain theory seems to me to make nature look like a benevolent system. In reality nature is full of predators. So why not in the small scale?

But my next thought is that we humans massproduce food due to our mastery in science and technology and for that reason we are the worst species when seen from the rest of the biosphere. So we ourselves ought to be preyed on if anybody.

One way of preying on us could be through our thoughts. The thoughts and the motivation of scientists and in particular of their sponsoring oligarchic context. I am open to both the more mundane theory that malthusian oligarchs and their allied bureaucrats actually want healthcare to depopulate us for profits but also to some metaphysical explanation that our whole existence isnt as free as we may think.

That our minds are not free.

@78
I doubt that the politicians got the same stuff as the “Versuchskaninchen”(Scholz).
For example in Germany during the swine flu mega marketing campaign the working class was poisoned with mercury getting narcolepsy while the ruling class and the army was not:
“The adjuvants in the swine flu vaccine only really became a topic of discussion when it became public knowledge that there were two different types of vaccines available to Germans — one for the federal government and the Bundeswehr (without adjuvants) and one for the general public (with adjuvants).

The swine flu vaccine Pandemrix is a split-virus vaccine, meaning it contains only viral fragments. It was developed based on the H5N1 avian flu virus and contains a whole cocktail of various additives, such as the mercury compound thiomersal or shark extract.”(machine translation)

He is responsible for many hundreds of thousands, millions of violent deaths. men women and children. Never a war of aggression he did not promote. In the same league or worse as those that stood trial at Nuremberg.
My only thought is that his death should have been slow, violent and exceptionally painful. He and McCain. Instead of dying natural deaths, medieval public examples should have been made of both those criminals.

The money that inflates all the bubbles is fuelled by money creation by banks and governments . Borrowing to pay debts is fatal . The end of this ponzi scheme is going to be spectacular . The price of energy (and supply) will be the factor that precipitates the return to reality . Wars and AI are energy intensive and will have to scale back soon. Populations are already facing hard choices and necessities are getting scarce and expensive. In the end you can’t buy what doesn’t exist.

Hope it’s really Iranian state media trolling that asshole.

Call me crazy, but Lady Lindsey Graham’s mysterious death immediately after getting both his “sanctions from hell” deal being finalized AND his restarting of the US-Iran war makes me think he was quietly assassinated to eliminate a possible obstacle to de-escalation in both conflicts.  consider the case of Mitch McConnell, he’s been brain dead for almost 2 months, they spirited him away to a private hospital and his office continues working on legislation like nothing has happened (because nothing has happened, McConnell wasn’t involved in any decisions he was just a puppet for the oligrachs that control his office so business continues unimpacted)  Lindsey was only 71 years old and looked perfectly fine a few days ago they could easily have pulled the same trick and pretended nothing has happened for at least a month or 2.  I’m calling bullshit on the official story, he got iced by the powers in control.  Only question is why?  to de-escalate the current conflict or eliminate a comprised asset to make way for someone new who will be the same.  – NOTE:  eliminating Lady Lindsey will definitely weaken the extremist. pro-Israel, pro-war monger faction in Washington,  2 weeks ago Lindsay spent four (4!) hours berating Trump and encouraging him to restart the war on Iran.

Did the USA steal Venezuela’s gold yet from the central bank?
Posted by: Jonny Law | Jul 11 2026 23:45 utc | 31

Nope. Venezuelan central bank gold has, for decades, been kept {for security reasons🤥} by the Bank of London [in The City].

Not sure if TrumpTeamTrix knew that.

I never celebrate when monsters die of natural causes and outside of prison, so please forgive me if I don’t join the festivities for the passing of “Ladybugs”.

When a monstrous individual, and one that is a public figure in particular, passes without facing justice for their crimes then the bloodstains on their hands pass on to the hands of the society they “served”. The stain becomes indelible. At that point the stain can only be cleansed by the purifying fires of genuine revolution (the stage-managed “fiery but mostly peaceful” kind won’t cut it). Unfortunately the US has accumulated a lot of such stains.

A treasure trove of links.  Working through them when I come in to take refuge from the sun and was riveted by the Speculum Orientis link.  On that, worried that the Iranians might push it so far that it goes nuclear.  Seems unlikely but so much crazy around at the moment that it can’t be ruled out entirely.

Applies to the Russians as well as to the Iranians.   OK, so they’ve defeated us in Ukraine and were always going to.  No dispute there.  But it’s possible to look at the last four years as the Russians achieving their objective but without pushing our crazies over that edge.

That’s how I’ve always seen it but looking back on the conflict, that’s maybe too superficial a view.  There’s something else.

The collapse of Western dominance is a really big deal.  We’ve been top dog for a very long time.  All over the world local power structures in many countries have developed within the context of overall Western domination.  Sometimes, very often, those power structures are dependent on Western domination.  We can take the Gulf States as an obvious example.  Those countries simply wouldn’t be what they are now without Western pressure successfully exerted.  In as far as their power structures do work, they only work because of Western dominance.

Remove that suddenly and there is no power structure left.  Internal forces would reassert themselves suddenly and chaotically.

As a past example of that we can look at the results when European colonial dominance disappeared in the middle of the last century.  It disappeared very fast and all hell was let loose as internal forces were suddenly released without any viable power structure capable of accommodating them.

We tend to look only at the destructive effect of colonial dominance  as that colonial dominance is becoming established and when it has been established.  And it’s true that that effect is often very destructive indeed, in terms of those killed, those repressed, and in terms of the suppression of the natural political development that would have occurred had this or that country or region not been subjected to such dominance.  That is the cost of empire for those who are subjected to it.

But we are less aware of the cost of end of empire: the destabilising of entire regions when colonial dominance suddenly ceases and there are no developed local power structures to immediately replace it.  Plenty of deaths and repression then too.  Plenty of chaos.

That is the risk inherent in the too sudden collapse of Western dominance: that as it collapses there is nothing immediately to hand to replace it with and in the resultant power vacuum chaos ensues.

And since for many regions and until very recently Western dominance was all powerful, the sudden removal of that Western dominance could lead to chaos indeed.

That removal of Western dominance is not solely  due to local defeat in Ukraine or Iran or wherever.  It results from the plain fact that we no longer have the military or economic clout to continue exerting that dominance.   If the Russians and Chinese have any long term strategists at all, and it’s likely that they do, they want to see that Western dominance subside gradually, not suddenly with some “glorious victory” that removes Western dominance  at a stroke and leaves only chaos behind.

Please Mr science, how severe is flu globally? You dont know or care what you are saying when you use the word flu.

So the gov’t provided data is false? I will provide the link later but I was talking to students in Hangzho at the time.

You know what they said? Every apartment building throughout the city had banners hanging out the windows to commemorate the dead. Visible everywhere.

Of course I take your anecdotal evidence as seriously as anyone else’s: not very. Bunch of bullshit.

Death acceptance in the name of keeping the bullshit economy running is the gospel of the Chinese capitalist state. Just like it is everywhere else.

Thanks for all those EVs and batteries. I love watching them explode.

Just as I love hearing how cheap Chinese HVAC units will save Europe from its own hot air. More cooler equals more better. Only an idiot thinks otherwise.

Nothing will interrupt the capitalist war machine. You slaves all literally stampeded back to work when your master said ‘cold and flu’. Why?

And you boast about it. What does adding another flu-like disease do to the global disease burden?

Again you dont know or care what flu is doing to you. Your opinions on disease are worse than a waste of time. You are deceitful.

Not that you care, on the US Whitehouse web site, covid 19 is still treated as a Chinese attack on the US.

So a “flu like illness” can be used to promote war. At any time.

Bra fucking oh.

@General Factotum | Jul 11 2026 23:34 utc | 30You havent convinced me with that comment.Like Tom, I am interested in knowing more.About what I see as a serious crisis in science. It doesnt seem at all impossible that germs cause diseases. …. I am open to both the more mundane theory that malthusian oligarchs and their allied bureaucrats actually want healthcare to depopulate us for profits but also to some metaphysical explanation that our whole existence isnt as free as we may think. That our minds are not free.
Posted by: petergrfstrm | Jul 12 2026 9:23 utc | 79

********************

Thanks petergrfstrm. You have clarified the problem wonderfully for me.

You say that I ” havent convinced me [you] with that comment “. The problem is, it wasn’t a comment from me. It was a collection of verifiable, testable facts from repeatable experiments and measurements under controlled conditions. If you seriously take issue with documented facts please state your reasons and advance your results, methods, and analysis so that your claims can be tested and verified – or disproven, as the case may be.

If you don’t accept the evidence, it is up to you to refute it. In the world of scientific endeavor, it is not acceptable to simply say you are unconvinced- and then to blithely carry on with “I am interested in knowing more“. Knowing more of what? More of things you can agree with because you already know?

But I do agree with your comment that your mind is not free. Perhaps you should look in to why that is the case? I think you will find the answer inside you, not some ‘metaphysical explanation’ of a ‘mundane theory’ that ‘malthusian oligarchs’ and their ‘allied bureaucrats’ are exercising some form of mysterious mind control over you and the general population.
