A Settler-Extremist Rebellion …
Excerpt from:
Helena Cobban –
That Settler-Extremist Rebellion of 1776 … and what it can tell us about America, Israel, and the world today
In addition to explicitly labeling the Indigenous peoples of this landmass as “merciless Indian Savages”, the Declaration of Independence also specified that their “known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.” There is a clear parallel there with some of the more gruesome— and equally false— accusations that the Israeli government and its acolytes worldwide launched against the Palestinian resistance movements after the resistance stunned the Israelis with the incursion of October 7, 2023. Reading that portion of the Declaration of Independence today, one almost expects it also to include accusations about “40 beheaded babies” or the “mass rapes” of the colonists’ women…
But in both cases, those completely unsubstantiated accusations served two key purposes:
- They served to yet further de-humanize, diminish, and “other” the members, leaders, and activists of the Indigenous communities in question, and
- They also served to give permission to the authorities and fighters of the colonial entity to treat the Indigenes in that exact same (or an even worse) manner.
…
It is easy to conflate race, nation and culture. As the definitions overlap we end up with, for example:
Woke nationalism which appears as anti-nationalism; meaning ‘our nation is kind and redemptive’ (plus we need workers) is to another ‘destruction of the nation fabric’ (plus we are paying for it).
Where that nation is understood to be of a main race, this translates into; ‘we are against race definition of nation’ which to another means ‘you are against a cultural definition of nation’
An example from these pages “Open borders is a solution” , but are the early indigenous people not to be consulted ?
Same goes with an example you gave Xiao. Do you think being born in a territory makes someone of there ? The data you gave was limited to ‘foreign born’ residents or nationals. This goes right through to your acceptance of french nationality, which now also claims you indefinitely. Equally there are those who are of ancestry and culture of a given nation who being born abroad are not granted citizenship. Some even left stateless and unable to visit their country, while watching as ‘foreigners’ turn up, claim nationality in five years all at nation expense.
Another example, instead of woke nationalism insisting on granting entry to foreigners, why is it not interested in securing similar rights to own nationals in foreign countries ? Many countries outside west are very restrictive on granting nationality.
So the questions are very complex with contradictory examples available to just about any argument. What is notable is that as nation definitions are lost, they are replaced with other forms of governance and dictate. Particularly, I find the loss of character and meaning of nations, of their people, as very unfortunate. The increased lack of independence of societies, of their people, is very notable; they are freer or wealthier but only within a smaller less meaningful confine of reality.
Wiscoteque …very funny 🙂 .

I’ll try to answer as best I can.
Woke nationalism which appears as anti-nationalism
There’s no such thing as ‘woke nationalism’. This kind of mental gymnastics is reflected in the false and fallacious phrase ‘anti-fascism is the new fascism’. And here I was thinking that wokism was dead…
meaning ‘our nation is kind and redemptive’ (plus we need workers)
There are so many ridiculous claims in that short sentence… Do you really think it’s out of kindness and guilt that we want to treat human beings with dignity rather than like livestock? My first choice would be for these people to be able to live where they were born (which isn’t even the case for me), amongst their loved ones and friends, within their own culture, speaking their own language and believing in their own gods.
And then the refrain “we need workers” raises the question: “Where are the native workers?” Do we see them fighting, struggling, competing for these jobs, or do they already think these jobs aren’t good enough for them? All right, you might say that wages have fallen and that only immigrants are willing to accept such low pay, but then why do we keep electing people who will do nothing to change that? Correct me if I’m wrong, but does Reform UK’s manifesto include any plans to raise wages? Here in France, the far right has absolutely no intention other than to kowtow to the corporate powers.
“Open borders is a solution”
I don’t know if you’re attributing that statement to me, but I didn’t say that. I said that borders are an abstract concept that has never prevented migration.
but are the early indigenous people not to be consulted ?
Is it not what elections are made for? And I’m totally in favour of referendums…
Do you think being born in a territory makes someone of there ?
Okay, you’re referring to a comment I posted in another thread, the aim of which was to use factual data to refute the idea that Europe’s white populations are under threat of extinction in the same way as certain indigenous peoples who were colonised by those very same white people. To answer your question, I’d say it depends on the country. In France, at any rate, this is the case under the principle of jus soli.
The data you gave was limited to ‘foreign born’ residents or nationals.
Once again, the aim was to refute an absurdity. Perhaps I simplified my wording to keep things straightforward. I myself am foreign born, but I am French by descent.
Equally there are those who are of ancestry and culture of a given nation who being born abroad are not granted citizenship. Some even left stateless and unable to visit their country
You need to give me some examples because I don’t really know who you are talking about and how many of them.
while watching as ‘foreigners’ turn up, claim nationality in five years all at nation expense.
Again : who, where and how many? If they’re working and pay their taxes, it is not all at nation expense! For example, which brings in more money for France: a retired British couple or a family of Algerian origin where both parents work?
why is it not interested in securing similar rights to own nationals in foreign countries ?
And why should we do something like that? My political aim is for MY country to act according to my values. I don’t care about the way other nations do, and when I’m living abroad, which I did for many years, I abide by the rules of my hosts wheter I like it or not.
