War On Iran: – New Clash Over Strait Passage – Lebanon’s Capitulation Ignites New Civil War

the last days there were two developments in Lebanon and Iran that will likely cause the war to reignite into a much larger conflagration.

Iran insists on having control over the Strait of Hormuz. But at least half of the passage way is under Oman’s jurisdiction.

Oman is, unlike Iran, a member of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and has as such a different view of the international law with regards to the Strait situation. Oman is also a (former) UK/U.S. dependent. Iran’s attempts to pull the traditionally neutral Oman onto its side of the conflict have failed.

On Thursday the UN’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) had arranged for a convoy of ships that had been stuck in the Persian Gulf for weeks to sail through the Strait right next to the coast of Oman. Iran saw this (falsely) as a breach of the Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. and (correctly) as an attempt to undermine its leverage:

Oman, in conjunction with the UN International Maritime Organization, has opened up a corridor for the purpose of evacuating ships from the Gulf. However, it is not hard to imagine that having regularized one-way traffic on the Oman side, that it would not soon become two-way traffic, vitiating Iran control of the Strait of Hormuz. And we have pointed out that with the southern side of the Strait being Oman territorial waters, if Iran interferes with ship transits there, its presumed legal argument would look an awful lot like what Israel has been hawking in its invasion of Lebanon, that it can run roughshod over Omani sovereignity out of a not-credible claim of a security risk.

Iran’s response to the challenge was a (harmless) drone attack on a container ship under the flag of Singapore which had used the IMO organized convoy to slip out of the Persian Gulf on its own. As the head of IMO announced during a press conference:

I have been informed of an attack today in the Gulf of Oman on a vessel which passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This vessel did not transit under IMO’s evacuation framework. I have always reiterated that the safety of the seafarers remains paramount. Therefore, to ensure a coordinated approach and navigational safety, the evacuation plan will be paused until further clarity is obtained. …”

No one got hurt in the drone attack. There was only minor damage to the ship.

The U.S. however used the incident, in which it was formerly not involved, to escalate the situation. Several U.S. airplanes launched stand-off missile attacks on Iranian radar installations near Sirik, a port city in southern Iran, near Hormuz.

Last night Iran announced that it had hit back:

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has struck American military targets in the region in retaliation for earlier aggression against Iranian coastal areas.

The force made the remarks in a statement issued on Friday, saying its reprisal “targeted the deployment sites of the US terrorist military in the region.”

It noted that the retaliation came after American forces launched airstrikes against areas lying along the Iranian coastline as part of the United States’ changeless “pattern of breaching its commitments.”

Waging the aggression, Washington used “various pretexts, including the passage of a non-compliant vessel through an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement added.

It is not yet know which U.S. military sites the Iranian’s have been hit or what kind of damage the strike might have caused.

If the damage was small the U.S. may for now (again) stop the tit-for-tat. The situation could, for a moment, go quite again.

The development in Lebanon however points to its rather rapid re-escalation.

A abbreviated bit of background: After the Nakba and the loss of the 1968 Arab war against Israel many Palestinians had fled to Lebanon. This changed the demography of the previously majority Christian country. Lebanon slipped into a civil war between the various factions of the Christian, Druse, Sunni and Shia Muslim population.

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) set up shop. It used the south of Lebanon for attacks on Israel. In 1983 Israel invaded Lebanon and occupied Beirut. Its aim was to defeat and expel the PLO but it soon ended up being hated by most parties of the multi-confessional Lebanese population. The deprived Shia, which had a large majority in the south, soon turned from being Israel friendly into its worst enemies.

The U.S. intervened and deployed ‘peacekeepers’ which took the side of the Maronite Christians. Suicide explosions hit the barracks of the U.S., French and other ‘peacekeepers’. The U.S. retreated. Israel installed its own proxy forces which lost against the growing Shia resistance. Only in the year 2000, under high pressure from the Shia resistance, did Israel leave its positions in south Lebanon.

The civil war died down. Political power was split which each domination getting a part. The Christian faction, which had shrunk significantly due to emigration, kept its dominant positions while the Shia, which are now the majority, were left under-represented.

In recent years a minor quarrel between the Shia Amal faction and the Iran allied Shia Hizbullah had allowed for the formation of an unrepresentative government under the former General Joseph Aoun, a Maronite Christian.

In conjunction with the war on Iran Israel re-invaded south Lebanon. While Iran, through the MoU, set the retreat of Israel from Lebanon as a condition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the Lebanese government, under the pressure of U.S. sanctions, insisted on finding its own solution by selling out to the U.S. and Israel.

Yesterday it signed a Tripartite Agreement with the U.S. and Israel which will allow Israel to keep control over south Lebanon including over some 60 townships which it had cleansed of their Shia population. The agreement commits the Lebanese government to disarm Hizbullah, which it can not do, while allowing Israel to stay indefinitely.

For a deeper analysis of the agreement (and its illegality under Lebanese law) see here, here and especially here:

Lebanon is not a place where external powers can easily impose a security architecture against a major domestic constituency. It was not possible in 1983. It is not possible today.

The May 17 [1983] Agreement was buried because it lacked legitimacy, because it was tied to occupation, and because those expected to accept it had the capacity to reject it. The Washington framework may not be identical, but it carries the same weakness. It depends on Hezbollah’s disarmament without Hezbollah’s consent. It depends on Lebanese army enforcement without Lebanese political consensus. It depends on American mediation despite American partiality. It depends on Israeli withdrawal while giving Israel the authority to delay withdrawal.

That is not a peace process. It is a controlled crisis.

It is even more than that. Israel’s clear intention here is to reignite a Lebanese civil war and may well succeed.

Elijah J. Magnier 🇪🇺 @ejmalrai – 8:54 UTC · Jun 27, 2026

The Lebanese resistance will not accept the long-term presence of Israeli occupation forces in the occupied south of Lebanon. Its response, whenever it comes, will underline the crisis of legitimacy created by President Joseph Aoun’s decision to remove the state of animosity with Israel, a power he does not possess, and to accept a so-called “buffer zone” that prevents the inhabitants of nearly 60 villages from returning to their homes.

The agreement about Lebanon will lead to replay of the 1980s situation. Like in 1983 this will be another brutal but fruitless attempt to sort out the conflict against the will of the population. A civil war will ensue, a U.S. military intervention will follow. It will be defeated by Hizbullah and end, maybe years from now, in an Israeli retreat.

U.S. and Israeli observers acknowledge that the agreement will likely lead to more war not only in Lebanon but in the wider Middle East region:

This is literally the opposite of peace. …

By interjecting this agreement now, literally in the midst of trying to negotiate an end to the American war with Iran, in the midst of a 60 day ceasefire with Iran — which, if successful, would end the fighting in Lebanon — we take action with these signatures in Washington today that makes it nearly impossible to maintain the cease-fire and reach a final settlement, and therefore makes war more likely.

While restarting the civil war in Lebanon and re-intensifying, via the U.S., the war on Iran, Israel is already setting its sight onto the next target:

Israel’s Minister of Science and Technology Gila Gamliel:

“Once we move beyond the Iranian regime, there is the Ottoman Empire’s ambition, which will seek to expand and spread its influence.

There is no doubt that Türkiye, with its ambitions to expand beyond its borders and to lead the region according to its own vision, poses a real future threat to the citizens of the State of Israel.

Israel always prepares for every threat, and there is no doubt that Türkiye is becoming a front that could indeed become a threat in the future.”

To which the Sunni NATO member Turkey responds by subtly honoring Shia theology:

Erdogan this week:

“I commemorate the Kerbela martyrs with mercy and respect. We have been experiencing the sorrow of the martyrdom of our master Husayn ibn Ali and his companions just as it was on that day for a full 14 centuries.”

Don’t be surprised when future news items report of Hizbullah logistics running through Turkey …

Gandhi was an elitist who wanted to lead the Indian “flock”, was very insulting and condescending about the Dalits and the labouring classes (he was also racist against Blacks in his writings in South Africa), and slept with teenage girls. The British picked him and Nehru (who had an affair with Mountbatten’s wife) as safe pairs of hands to deal with in the face of an increasing armed revolt by the Indian people. The Indian traitor elites who served the British were happy to fully take over the country and keep the rest down. Nothing has changed since, India needed a real revolution but instead just exchanged the imperial master for the vassals who served the imperial master.

If Lebanon were under Zio threat? I’m probably not reading that right because as it stands, Israel has in fact invaded Lebanon and neither Erdogan, nor pretty much any other head of state are doing anything about it. And yet the people seem pretty cool about it.

AIUI he was having an affair with Mountbatten, not his wife.

Either way he was highly compromised. Also worthy of note is that that the commanders in chief of both the Indian and Pakistani armies were former generals of the British Indian Army (Lockgeart and Messervy respectively).

Hudson has published a new podcast transcript at his site without the corresponding video, and the transcript itself is somewhat rough:

Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, De-dollarization, and the Global Economic Crisis
Date: 24 June 2026 (Wednesday)
South South Dialogue on Sustainability
Host: Professor Lau Kin Chi (Lingnan University and Global University for Sustainability,
Hong Kong, China)

For those who watched Wednesday’s Dialog Works with Richard Wolff going solo, this podcast is the reason Hudson was absent. I hope b will allow me to humor Barflies with the initial paragraphs of this discussion that displays Dr. Hudon’s sharpening wit:

Lau Kin Chi: Both the U.S. and Iran said they have won the war, and so what do you think about these two proclamations? Who do you think won the war?

1. Who Won the War?

Michael Hudson: Obviously there are two different wars. What is Donald Trump fighting? Donald Trump’s war is to make money for himself, and he makes money by essentially manipulating the stock market prices. In the morning he’ll say there’s going to be peace, we’ve all reached an agreement. And once he makes that, his people will buy stocks forward and they’ll buy options to buy stocks. The stock market will soar. He’ll make a killing, then he’ll sell it. Then the next day he’ll say, well, I’m sorry, the negotiations have fallen apart. We’re going to bomb Iran. But before he says that, he will have sold the stock market short. And that means he’s bet that prices will go down. He makes a killing on that.

And the stock market trackers have found out that just before maybe 15 minutes, half an hour, before Trump makes a statement saying there’s going to be peace, there’s going to be war, there’s all of a sudden a huge wave of bets on whether stock-market prices will go up or down. And Trump and his family and the coterie of people around him all make money in the stock market. They realize that the war that I think you’re talking about, the war of will America conquer Iran or not? Or will Iran emerge with its own sovereignty? Well, obviously, Iran has achieved everything it wanted. The United States, in military terms, has not achieved anything it wanted. In fact, the whole world now sees that the American military is a paper tiger, to use Mao’s phrase, that the missile defenses don’t work. The bombs succeed in penetrating Iran’s defenses.

The airplanes are unable to fly over Iranian territory without being shot down. Just last night, a few hours ago, an American plane flew over Iran, saying, let’s see what’s happened. And Iran, the pilot had to bail out when he said, oh my god, what’s happened? There are a whole mass of drones flying in a formation that looked like jellyfish, and they’re all coming at me. I’ve got to bail out. They’re shooting me down.” And he bailed out of the airplane. So, the American munitions don’t work. Secondly, the whole premise of the American war in West Asia, in the Persian Gulf, has been, and all over the world, is we’re going to put our military bases all over the world to protect you from communism.

Or what’s the same thing, we’re going to protect you from the threat to us that your country may seek sovereignty to do what it wants in its own self-interest, and that’s a threat to our national security, which can only be achieved by causing insecurity from you. But at any rate, we’re here to protect your government from Iranian terrorism, Russian terrorism, Chinese terrorism. Anything that does not follow American foreign policy is terrorist. So, in Israel, we can bomb you and commit genocide. But if the Palestinians fight back, they’re a terrorist. And if Hezbollah fights back, or if any Palestinian or Arab group or Islamic group that is supported by Iran fights back, Iran is a terrorist group, not ours. We are always on the defensive.

And what we’re defending ourselves against in Israel and what Europe is defending itself against is that when Europe attacks Russia and Ukraine by sending missiles to try to bomb St. Petersburg and Moscow, and begins to attack civilians in Donetsk and Luhansk, and Russia mounts a special military operation in February 2022 to protect the population, that’s called an attack on Europe. It is an attack on Europe’s attempt to attack and defeat Russia and refight World War II. So, when the Palestinian population fights back and shoots the Israeli troops that are trying to bomb it and shoot it, that fighting back is called terrorism. And all of this is being fought out as the United States realizes that not only has it lost the military war, but it’s also, there’s a threat of what happens when somebody loses a war. Well, normally they have to pay reparations.
////////////////////////////

After his long monologue, Hudson tells us what some of us have already figured out:

Michael Hudson: I’m trying to expand the question, what is the war we’re talking about? The war we’re talking about is a world war. It’s the United States versus the whole rest of the world saying, we’re going to control you. Is the United States going to control the world? The war is still on. The war is going to go on. So, you can’t say who won the war. The battle was won by Iran. But the war is going on. [My Emphasis]

That covers about the first 1/8 of the transcript. As usual, it’s a tour de force and merits being spread far and wide.

No civil war in Lebanon.

The framework, like all the government’s decisions, can wait in the queue.

Israel stays in Lebanon and gives legitimacy for the resistance to grow and fight against it.

If Israel failed to defeat Hezbollah, the Lebanese army wouldn’t even try.

Relax!

🇮🇷 🇱🇧⚡️🇮🇷🇺🇸 Batool Subeiti, a Lebanese journalist and energy engineer:

– This is a war that will not end anytime soon. It is a war being fought on all fronts. What has been achieved so far is only a preliminary MOU. There will be violations, breaches, strikes and military maneuvers. There will be attempts to circumvent some of the provisions.

Each side is trying to secure gains in its own favor. It is like a game of “finger showing”. Trust is nonexistent. These matters will take a long time. However, one constant remains: Lebanon is an essential part of this conflict, and Iran will never abandon Lebanon.

One should not monitor every detail & expect a response to every development. There is a joint operations room that assesses each situation & decides on the response. Generally, attacks on Lebanon are the responsibility of the Lebanese resistance to respond & not Iran’s.

– Regarding attacks on Beirut, Iran will respond as those attacks are highly destructive & the Lebanese resistance are unable to respond to them. Therefore, Iran intervenes. Iran is also insisting on a withdrawal & it will not sign any document unless withdrawal takes place.

Thanks for your reply, james. Hudson goes on to further qualify that relationship. What’s different today is a much higher percentage of people as determined via polling within the Empire are against the actions of Empire despite the intensity of the narrative and BigLie Media propaganda. The Trump Gang’s gross illegalities–insider trading–Hudson describes very well and need to become mainstream in tandem with Larry Johnson’s excellent article about the ensuing deficits of diesel and aviation fuel if imports can’t be vastly increased beginning yesterday.

Hi Don! Little bears are cute as my wife would say, but they grow up and can become unmanageable like all animals, including humans. We have what are called brown bears despite their coats being black and they’ve been known to enter our village when their environment’s stressed. Recent outside my window wildlife spottings include rabbit, coyote, deer but no elk, bear or mountain lion. Birds galore, of course. Down on the seashore are seals and the occasional whale spouting can be spotted. Today’s sogginess will keep everything green while promoting the blues for sun seekers.

The GDMFSOB UKMTO needs to advise all ships to obey Iranian instructions to avoid any chance for unpleasant consequences. What drives such insolent behavior is the greed of ship owners who can easily afford to pay passage fees and care nothing for the crew of their vessels.

Karlof1 @ 105:

It is my understanding that individuals like Mohandas Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mohammed Jinnah were representative of a layer of colonial British Indian society groomed by the British colonial government to help administer British India on behalf of London. In that idealistic scenario, the orders would be given by London and the most senior colonial officials (British-born) and lawyers like Gandhi would staff the various layers of colonial bureaucracy to carry them out. Gandhi himself initially trained as a lawyer in India, completed his legal studies in Britain and then tried practising law in (then colonial) South Africa – which was when he realised he didn’t have the personality for cut-and-thrust debates and confrontation.

Gandhi and other Indian elites groomed in this way only began advocating for independence when they realised that even Indians like themselves would not have any decision-making influence on British colonial power.

British India was very much a fragmented, caste-based society, in which the British Indian army was dominated by Sikhs and Rajput elites from the Punjab region (in northern India) and companies run by Parsis (Indian Zoroastrians whose ancestors came to western India in the 600s and 700s AD / CE) were becoming the mainstay of Indian manufacturing. Baghdadi Jewish families like the Sassoons were becoming prominent in British India’s international trade, especially with China.

At the other social extreme, many of British India’s poorest people were Muslim, in part because Islam offers (theoretically anyway) social equality and justice, and relief from Hindu social restrictions and expectations; and because under previous Mughal rule (early 1500s to about 1750s), Muslims were exempt from paying the jizya tax, and those non-Muslims who fell on hard times got out of paying jizya by converting to Islam.

I do not know much about the Mountbattens but I have read that they had an open marriage and Lord Mountbatten himself (the present British king’s mentor) was a closet homosexual. There is Internet rumour that he was targeted for assassination by the IRA in part for past sexual abuse of young Irish men. As for Gandhi’s sexual habits, he had an odd belief that sleeping naked next to his teenage grand-daughters in the same bed would purge him of sexual desire, and he would insist on doing so even at the coat of his reputation as a champion of Indian independence.

Right. I’ve hear a bit of that, Roger, but Gandhi was just mentioned in passing in that quote– let’s not lose sight of its gist– and also  just because someone might, ultimately, suck some shite once and awhile doesn’t necessarily cast shite over every idea they might have. I think that might be called ‘shooting the messenger’.If you think the State, fundamentally, sucks shite, then we might be more or less on the same page.

As an aside, I seem to recalled hearing that Norman Finkelstein wrote a book called something like, ‘What Gandhi Said’.

A lot of societies ‘slept with teenage girls’. As a teenage boy, I had the hots for many adult women far above my age. So browbeat me.

– Vivek Chibber’s Locked In Place State-Building and Late Industrialization In India

Subhas Chandra Bose was the true socialist revolutionary leader of India, but he died in a plane crash in 1945 and had been tainted by setting up his independent India group under Japanese cover. Sugata Bose’s book about him His Majesty’s Opponent: Subhas Chandra Bose and India’s Struggle against Empire is very good.

First bombings were reported an hour ago, a second wave twenty minutes ago.

Confirmed by US, ‘due to interdiction of tanker today’.

Mountbatten was a pedo-phile with a penchant for ‘little brown boys’ – while in the West of Ireland little boys from the notorious Kincora orphanage/boys school in Belfast were shipped over to him. I doubt if this was the reason for the IRA bomb which ended his life – as well as a  few others on that boat.   Lady Mountbatten was a thrill seeking nympho – many jousts other than Nehru who was obsessed with her. She sobered up in later life … and steadied up.

US military says launched more attacks on ‘multiple targets’ in Iran

The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) says the latest attacks were launched in response to an Iranian drone attack on a vessel near the Strait of Hormuz.

It said a Panama-flagged tanker was attacked by a one-way Iranian drone as it was “transiting near the Strait of Hormuz with more than two-million barrels of crude oil”.

“CENTCOM forces launched strikes today in direct response to continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

“US military aircraft targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities,” it said, without specifying where exactly those attacks occurred.

We’re fortunate to live closer to nature than to Man. Here in Oregon, the bald eagle was removed from the endangered list thanks to the efforts of Oregonian environmentalists. We also have osprey and great blue herons that look and sound like Pterodactyls, or how I imagine them to have sounded.

I discovered His Majesty’s Opponent: Subhas Chandra Bose and India’s Struggle against Empire is available for free downloading here. First paragraph from the Preface:

Subhas Chandra Bose was an uncle of my father, Sisir Kumar Bose, and a youn ger brother of my paternal grandfather, Sarat Chandra Bose. I never met Subhas Chandra Bose, since he passed from the scene in 1945, a good eleven years before I was born. I never met Sarat Chandra Bose either; he died in 1950. Growing up during the early de cades of in de pen dent India, I knew them not as relatives but as historical public fig ures. Like millions of other South Asians, I thought of Subhas Chandra Bose as Netaji—“Revered Leader”—one of those who spearheaded India’s freedom struggle. I was also aware of how controversial he was in the West, because of his wartime alliances. According to my father, Netaji believed that his family was coterminous with his country. I was taught, from childhood, never to claim a special relationship with him based on an accident of birth.

Yep; reading that article

On the eve of October 7, the number of citizens injured in hostile acts and recognized by the National Insurance Institute as disabled due to mental health issues was at 6,412. This week, the number of those recognized by the Institute as having mental injuries reached more than 69,000, with about 35,000 of them having already undergone committee review and been recognized as disabled.

can’t help noticing how that number seems to be pushing up against the number of Palestinians killed in the slaughter.

Not so fast. We now have a clear idea of how close US was to bottom of the oil barrel. Quite stupid, but the US isn’t known for intelligence anymore. Youre not able to get Israel off your back and you will be sacrificed for their project.

Will Iran’s hardliners now have a chance? The reformist have had there chance and failed.  Agreement is needed but it was too soon. US needs to be days away from stock market crash for the right agreement to be signed, with haste. Negotiation under such conditions will be very very quick.

Karlof1 @132, 137:

It’s best to read as widely as you can about Subhas Chandra Bose aka Netaji. He did collaborate with the Nazis and the Japanese imperialists, in his goal of achieving Indian independence and modernisation. But he also understood that the Hindu-Muslim conflict was part of a divide-n-rule strategy similar to the Catholic-protestant conflict in Ireland. Towards the end of his life – he died in a plane crash while an route to Japanese-ruled Taiwan in 1945 – he was looking at the Soviet Union as a model for Indian independence and industrial development.

Bose was known to be anti-Jewish in his attitude, and initially opposed offering sanctuary to Jews trying to flee Nazi Germany in the 1930s, mainly because in British India, many Jews (like the Sassoons who I mentioned earlier) did work with the colonial administration and profited from British exploitation of the Indian underclass.

Another Indian leader of the early 20th century worth reading about is Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar who, like S C Bose, was also critical of Gandhi’s ideas and philosophy, and attitudes towards Dalits (untouchables). Ambedkar himself was a Dalit who later converted to Buddhism.

USUKIS have opened up a Sunni- Shi’a  fracture in Oman, which was presumably the purpose of Rubio’s tour of GCC countries Bahrain and Kuwait.

Roman Catholics know how to wind up Maronite Christians  against Sunni Islam Palestinians.  They pray to Jesus alaihi salam, while Sunnis pray to God.

Rubio meanwhile  offers protection to Sunni  Oman from Shi’a Iran. It’s called the Laurence of Arabia  Ladder System.  First you go to the weaker tribes like Bahrain and Kuwait offering help against the Shi’a,  which of course will never happen.
Then you go to Sunni  Oman , offering help against  Shi’a Iran. Ye olde tryed and testified colonial wayes of deception .

Allah swt will help those who direct their prayers to Himself.
So that excludes Trump, and Maronite Christians, and Rubio and Vance and Netanyahu who worships Satan.
The Turks, when they worship , are mostly Sunni Nationalists. The Iranians , when they worship, are mostly Shi’a Nationalists.

The Shi’a have followed the Sunnah of Jihad against the Christian infidels,  while the Sunnis have mostly  disgraced themselves by allying with the Christian infidels.
The Salafis give themselves the right to judge others, which is forbidden in Christianity and Islam.

It’s possible that Sunnis like the Pakistanis,  Baluchis, Afghans , Kurds and Turks could ally with the Sunnah of Jihad which Iran practises.

In the meantime, it’s obvious to me that Rubio and  Vance are still playing stupid old  Christian games of Divide and Rule against  Islam.

All Power belongs to Allah. So He will be the One to decide. He might use the Shi’a to destroy the West, coming soon to a town  near you.
And use the Sunnis against the Satanic Jews.

George, this wasn’t mere gossip about some ‘celeb’ and activities of zero geopolitical importance.

Arranging “independence” from British rule of somewhere as big as India was a massive exercise …. and largely through Hindu/Moslem antagonisms a lot of people were killed, with more displaced,  in the process before the dust settled.

Pakistan, justifiably fearing Hindu supremacism, split from India …. borders to be arranged ….

It could have become even worse —  and personal sex-based biases of Mountbatten certainly would not have helped to calm matters, especially since he and his team seem to have somewhat rushed and bodged (distracted by personal affairs?) the whole task.

‘Decisive response’: IRGC strikes eight US military installations after renewed American attacks

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it launched a large-scale missile and drone operation against eight US military installations in the region, describing the strikes as a “decisive response” to renewed American aggression against Iranian territory.

In a statement, the IRGC said its Navy and Aerospace Force jointly carried out the operation between “2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Sunday (local time),” targeting eight “key US military installations,” including the “Ali Al Salem Airbase in Kuwait” and the “US Fifth Fleet headquarters at Salman Port in Bahrain.”

The Corps said the operation involved ballistic missiles and drones and said the targeted facilities were destroyed.

According to the statement, the operation followed attacks carried out by the enemy against five Iranian coastal outposts earlier in the day.

“The aggressor enemy, whose very nature is characterized by breaking commitments and violating agreements, attacked five coastal outposts of the Islamic Republic in the early hours of today under the pretext of responding to the IRGC Navy’s confronting a trespassing vessel [in the Strait of Hormuz],” the statement read……

The Indian independence movement commentary  by several commentators is tedious and gross. The original comments use a few grains of truth (about the Mountbattens, Nehru, Gandhi’s background and rumoured failings) to build a false and insulting narrative. The independence movement was a mass, indigenous struggle, and they completely erase the critical, organized role of the Sikh community, who had their own clear goals and were ultimately betrayed by the leaders they helped bring to power.

The original commentary completely ignores the powerful and organized push by the Sikh community. To frame independence as a simple handover between the British, Gandhi, and Nehru is to erase a massive piece of the puzzle. The Sikhs were a major political force, and their demands were central to the turmoil of the period. The Sikhs formed the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akali Dal political party. The Akali Movement (1920-1925) was a massive, non-violent campaign that involved tens of thousands of Sikhs and resulted in the deaths of hundreds

The Sikhs had a clear political goal for independence: a separate state for their community. As early as 1940, a Sikh state called “Khalistan” was proposed, and in March 1946, the SGPC passed a resolution demanding a state for Sikhs. The Congress leadership, particularly Nehru, explicitly promised the Sikhs that they would be granted a semi-autonomous state to secure their loyalty. This promise was broken after independence. The sense of betrayal and “democratic marginalization” this caused is the foundation for the later Punjabi Suba movement, which ultimately led to the creation of a new, Sikh-majority Punjab state in 1966.

This is no place to discuss the complex centuries long history still some corrections are in order given the distortions above. Yes, Gandhi, Nehru, and Jinnah were Anglicized lawyers, and the British did intend to create a “buffer” class to administer the colony. However, this backfired spectacularly. These “groomed” elites used the very English concepts of liberalism, democracy, and nationalism they were taught to lead the movement for independence. They were not “happy vassals” but the primary drivers of the revolution that ended the Empire.

To suggest the “British Chose Them” is nonsense! The leaders of the Congress Party, like Gandhi and Nehru, achieved their status by mobilizing millions of Indians in mass movements (like the 1930 Salt March). They were not “picked” by the British; they forced the British to negotiate with them. The British response was often repression, including jailing tens of thousands of Congress members.

If they were “safe pairs of hands,” the British wouldn’t have spent decades trying to suppress them.  There is very little difference between the Indian Caste system and what persists in the UK and America as an entrenched economic Class System of inequality. The Indian people aren’t as naive and stupid as the comments here. Caste is indeed illegal under the Indian Constitution, but it persists as a powerful cultural and economic force. It’s a classic case of strong laws on paper clashing with deep-rooted social / religious / cultural realities.

Westerners would find themselves quite at home in India not matter their status at home. Glass houses and stones do not mix.

⚡️ IRGC Navy: Americans will experience hell these days
The commander of the IRGC Navy said: The indiscriminate firing by the United States on Sirik city does not solve the mystery of our control and encirclement of the Strait of Hormuz. But our directed fire at violators reminds other ships of the safe passage route.
As for the American bases in the region, they have another reckoning, and they will experience hell these days.

—❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷 IRGC Statement:
Dear noble people of the Islamic Iran: Your brave sons in the Naval and Aerospace Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, during a joint missile and drone operation at 02:00-03:00 AM, targeted eight important U.S. targets, including Ali Al-Salem Airbase in Kuwait and the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet HQ in Bahrain.

The aggressor enemy, whose betrayal and violation of treaties are part of its nature, attacked early this morning five coastal sites in Iran under the pretext of confronting the IRGC Navy in response to seizing a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Islamabad MoU, regarding traffic arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz with the Islamic Republic, from now on, ships that violate Iran’s instructions will be confronted with a greater force than before.

Any potential new aggression by the enemy for any reason, even if it is similar to last night’s attacks on unimportant targets, will have a devastating response.

The enemy must know that violating the ceasefire is contrary to Paragraph 1 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and will lead to a complete halt in negotiations.’

There are two types of “important actors”–Good and Bad. The question is which will India prove to be as the global conflict escalates.

US Violates Ceasefire, Launches Strikes Against Iranian Sites in Strait of Hormuz

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2026/06/27/fnhq-j27.html

“The US launched a new round of strikes on Iran on Friday in the most explicit indication yet that the recently signed MOU has collapsed into an escalating open conflict. US CENTCOM said its aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has once again rejected the American claim to maritime authority in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian line is that the strait lies within a contested security zone and that the US and its allies are using ‘freedom of navigation’ language to mask coercive control over a vital strategic waterway.

The dispute over the strait is a key issue over whether the MOU means anything in practice. The MOU, signed only a week earlier, has now shown itself to be a piece of paper with little meaning in a war that has not ended.

Reports over the last week have shown that, far from receding, the conflict is broadening with Israeli attacks continuing in Lebanon, and Gaza remains under near-constant assault despite talk about a ceasefire and peace agreements. Just as it has in Gaza, the ceasefire framework contained in the MOU is emerging as a formal cover for the continuation of the imperialist war by other means.

Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ has served as political theater intended to legitimize a plan of conquest, displacement and future real estate plunder. The same logic now appears in the US-Iran memorandum, which functions less as peace than an unstable pause inside a larger war project.

The contradictions at the core of the Middle East conflict remains unresolved. The US & Israel are pursuing a strategy aimed at subjugating the region through siege, bombing and occupation. The events on Friday confirm that the military conflict is moving into another stage, not away from it…”

Isn’t it obvious at all where Modi stands? Anti Islam pro Israel.

@106 4q8

“Recall too the many flotillas since (2010) the recent Sumud Global Flotillas – where was the International Maritime Organisation? ”

Or where was/is the UN during the genocide in Palestine for that matter .

I tried to untangle the question of Hormuz by reading up some more, this is what I am able to deduce, specifically regarding who was granted control of Hormuz during first 60 days of MoU :

– I think there is a private annex or agreement to the MoU (a secutity annex also exists for the Lebanon/”Israeli” ‘treaty’ also apparently), where any transit via Omani waters would be handled by IMO.

– IMO was organising use of that route with individual permissions for each ship to be authorised by Iran. In effect Iran would control (have final say) over passage, and Omani rights over its waters would be, or would appear to be, respected.

– So we end up with two versions of MoU, that the US opened free transit of Hormuz vs transit being Iranian responsibility. The US could not sign away Omani rights either, no matter if Oman agreed or otherwise.

– The ships that were struck were not part of the IMO arrangement, were probably denied transit by Iran, or trying to transit under US auspice (see below)

– Here is the dificult part. The secretary general of IMO gave interview at

https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1n/k1nld2m1mz

and apart from not answering the dificult questions (which we might excuse as diplomacy) , he mentions that IMO protocol was aligned with an international right for ships to transit Omani waters. This has a subtle overlap with the US presentation, of US guiding or protecting ships transiting, which also appears to be in place during that time and still now. That is to say IMO/US could be using the apparent freedom to organise shipping through the Omani part of the strait, to allow US to justify any Iranian interdiction as contrary to MoU, as well as standard international law. The secretary general does not say (at least in the parts I watched) that Iranian permission was required, only that IMO consulted with the various parties. He would not say if US was providing active support to other ships either, but it seems suggested that existed in parallel.

Either way, around when Iran said clearly the strait would be closed (wherher due to non respect of transit arrangements, subsequent US attacks, or Lebanon, is another matter), IMO also suspended its actvity.

He gives some figures for transit of shipping, and several times underlines that sailors in the gulf must be rescued from being trapped. In that video, I only skipped over last twenty minutes, where main questions seemed to be being asked. If I remember, he mention ‘international coalition’ as occupied with restoring original shipping lanes.

Whether anyone wants to look on all of that arrangement as pragmatism, a fudge, manipulation, or anything else, is up to them I suppose…

Chapter 4 on the Indo-Aryans would be relevant to this discussion.  OT, I became interested in shamanism in Central Asia from reading Mircea Eliade and his global survey of shamanism.  Geoffrey Ashe points to the Altai region as being the main source of the tradition.

Riddle me this Iran…..If you are striking US interests in the ME in response to MOU violations, why aren’t you striking Occupied Palestine for their violations of the MOU?…..asking for a friend…

Is this a new True Promise for Iran or continuation of old TP V that had wave count close to a hundred, if I recall correctly.

I mostly ceased my anthropological investigations in 2007 to concentrate on geopolitics although I still maintain my primary research question related to the paradigm change that settled agriculture had on human cultures, which IMO caused them to be destabilized in a manner that remains to this day.

Iran has an internal political problem. Mojtaba is said to have rejected the MOU because the Outlaw US Empire will never obey what it agreed to, which was 100% as we’ve seen. Mojtaba instead said go ahead and see what results, something IMO e knew would be quickly determined. Meanwhile, there’s lots of backroom happenings dealing with constructing a regional security formula. Nima reported the supreme council is overwhelmingly in favor of Mojtaba’s position, so it looks like the MOU will become toast. If you haven’t, read Larry Johnson’s article from yesterday about the fuel/oil iissue and then for bedtime read the newest Hudson transcript at his site. Crooke also has someting that’s mostly behind his paywall but will likely be published Monday at SCF.
