War On Iran: – Iran’s Negotiators Are Under Pressure

The U.S. is obviously not willing to fulfill the conditions set out in its Memorandum of Understanding with Iran. It will need more pressure from Iran to make the U.S. agree to its demands.

The current team of Iranian leaders who had negotiated and signed the MoU are President Masoud Pezeshkian -a good heart surgeon but unexperienced politician-, Speaker of the Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf -a former IRGC leader and professional politician-, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi -a longtime professional diplomat.

All three are now under critique for multiple breaches of the MoU by the U.S. and the perceived lack of Iranian responses to those.

Some 68 members of 88 men strong Assembly of Experts have published (in Farsi, in in English) a strong admonishing advice to the negotiators to stick to the ten points the Supreme Leader of Iran had defined.

The Assembly of Experts is the elected board of senior Islamic jurists which can elect and dispose of the Supreme Leader. It is residing in Qom. Its assembly building had been destroyed in one of the U.S. attacks on Iran.

Excerpts from the Assembly’s statement:

[W]e expect that, considering the experiences of past damaging negotiations, [the negotiators] will be completely careful of the tricks of the deceitful and bad enemy and pay attention to the fact that observing the leadership’s red lines is a religious obligation and violating them is not permissible under any circumstances.

In accordance with the commitment of the respected officials to the leadership and the people, it is expected that any breach of the agreement and violation of the clauses of the memorandum of understanding will be responded to immediately. Therefore, considering the continuation of the aggressors and crimes of the filthy Zionist regime in Lebanon and the failure to withdraw from the occupied territories, which is a clear violation of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is contrary to the obligations of the officials and is considered a strategic mistake and will make the enemy more bold in continuing to break the agreement and violate its obligations.

The servants of the nation in the Assembly of Experts, as part of the people, will remain with the esteemed leadership and the entire nation, while wishing success to the respected officials, awaiting the fulfillment of the conditions and promises, and will act on their religious duty when necessary.

While the Assembly has no direct means to depose of the negotiators their warning is a powerful signal. It can be understood as an appeal to the Supreme Leader, who can dissolve the government, to intervene in the situation.

Following the publishing of the letter President Pezeshkian has traveled to Qom to explain his view of the situation.

The Parliament of Iran is another institution which is discontent with the current negotiations. The parliament has been closed since the U.S. attack started on February 28. Speaker Ghalibaf has resisted demands to reopen parliament sessions.

Several parliament members want to adopt a binding law to demand a toll or fee for any passage of the Strait of Hormuz. The negotiators want to avoid that as any such law would restrict their flexibility in further negotiations.

Both interventions can be understood as critique of the negotiators. But they are also a device to strengthen the negotiator’s position. The U.S. will have less power to press for compromises when the negotiators can point to the necessity of getting hardliners’ backing for any agreement.

I follow your thoughts and see the reality as it is today. Now, I do hope that the empire is economically on the brink – it is the famous ‘economy stupid’ – the masses of people in the ’empire world’ are not getting any more food, or health, they are unhappy and their unhappiness will need to be controlled by massive policing methods (brachial and software driven). It seems to me that there will be some kind of massive revolt in the “heartland” – meaning USA, western Europe. South America will follow. The collapse will come from within the system.

I hope you are correct.  The USA, as a united country, needs to be ended.  I’ll be relieved if Putin’s patience is rewarded in the end and we avoid a major world war.

suzan at 200 offers as good an explanation for godfathering as any, although I suspect it has a different meaning in Sicilian Catholic circles. As for LSD, clearlight windowpane was the blend in the SF Bay Area when I was in highschool and had connections with chem students at UC Berkeley that made the stuff, which was extremely good (1971-1975 was when I dabbled). The “of” portion of my moniker is related to those times. I seem to recall Dr. Hudson explaining some other aspects of the godson issue that’s buried in his archive at his site. If you use Trotsky as a search term to find all the articles where he’s mentioned and the use the ctrl-f function to search each page, you can spend hours trying to find further elusive information.

Regarding Israel’s strategy of ethnic cleansing, I grant you that this is indeed the primary intention, while maintaining that the airstrikes on Beirut stemmed first and foremost from frustration.

The idea is to try to paralyze Hezbollah’s actions by instilling fear of reprisals against Beirut.

Israel is not trying to kill everyone; it knows that is impossible.

It seeks to kill with enough savagery and cynicism to inspire fear and drive people to flee the areas it covets.
Children are specifically targeted because they are the ones who can try to come back later.

And that is precisely what makes the resistance of the Palestinians who remain so remarkable.

It is maybe cynical to say so, but Israel covets Gaza for its gas and coastal territory, as well as southern Lebanon for its water and land.
It does not intend to annex Beirut—at least not for the time being.

Even today, the goal shared by Netanyahu and Trump is the mass displacement of populations from these two areas, under any pretence.

The fact remains, however, that this daily, almost normalized genocide is unbearable for the average person.
Hence the perpetrators’ need to create some diversion.

But there is also the risk that the “Axis of Resistance” might act rashly in the hope of stopping this madness—including actions that could inadvertently help the enemy achieve its objective.

When we are led by monsters intent on dragging the whole world into their nightmare, it’s refreshing to see that one can remain realistic—or even cynical—while using mockery and humor.

DunGroanin never manages to convince me of a relatively small , finite number of bad guys, because he never manages to identify any of them.

I think it’s possible that there is a large quantity of  humans who appear sane, and an even larger quantity of devils who,  in private, mislead them.

Maybe this is the reason we can’t identify them, because in public they know how to behave themselves.

@213 Giyane

“because in public they know how to behave themselves…”

…like all bureaucracies, just doing their job in the interest of public good.

i.e. note most major action is via state.

Which is why background adjustmsnt of public norms is a main endeavour.

Ultimately, any population will take collective blame, for subscribing to false contests… for lack of contest.

‘Suckers’

So there is no obvious list, just a public framework which is no-one, and those who know how to use it visibly, legitimately, to whatever ends.

That’s ‘a lot of people’.

That some objectives thought up are more visibly destructive, others more insidious, others seemingly reasonable, others deeply entrenched and so on, doesn’t change the nature of the machine, and so the nature of those who are part of it.

A machine designed to dominate, will do just that, and offer any inclined that opportunity.

But how dose one negotiate with psychopath’s? I certainly understand the more hardline and principled approach of no negotiations but no negotiations are a guarantee of more death and destruction. Same as the endless Putin is weak lamentas. Those man have hundreds of millions of lifes under their responsibilitys. I whish i could say be in a more principle / no negotiations camp but unless you are not able to fully destroy or at least neutralize the other side (which Iran nor Russia can) its a tuff call.

*** What troubles me is how the internet pundits rarely point this out.  Instead we get the usual: “America run by idiots” “they’ve already lost” etc…  There’s little attempt to brake down American strategy and contemplate how it may be succeeding or might succeed.  To me, the alt-media is starting to look like a Trojan Horse – providing us with a false sense of winning.  Great Click Bait.  We all want to come online and cheer the winning side.***

Too many forget that the Neocon notion of “winning” is not to take over and (albeit for ulterior motives) be constructive as well as extractive in the way of for instance the Roman or British empires.

Neocon “winning” involves violently reducing everything and everyone else to bloody rubble …. and having looted the mess, leave it a mess forever — unless they happen to want to steal the land itself for themselves and their own related associates.  An intensively surveilled mess is much less of a future threat.

The land may well, thanks to them, be thoroughly toxic — but being “chosen” and “exceptional”, they presume their own immunity to that.  In any case, who cares since most (even the atheists? perhaps, since they claim a deity awarded them whatever they now want, back in the days of someone else’s myth!) think some sort of returned messianic nutcase will arrive quite soon to terminate everything anyway.

The Neocon types attain victory via wars, terrorism (often false-flag), propagandist lies and finance/economics. The general populations of countries they use as proxies are regarded as totally disposable subhumans …. theirs is an exclusivist and extremely ethnocentric form of imperialism.

It may be a sort of justice, but hardly a consolation that bought puppets, front-men and ideological/religious dupes of the real imperialist leaders will eventually discover that they too are actually despised and classed as disposables by their masters; for now, these traitors are rewarded and flattered.

The situation is now one of “total war”, on a global scale. Neocons and Zionists are mentally near-enough identical. And, partly through failure on the part of  their opponents to be decisive and ruthless enough — failure to appreciate that a complete eradication of the enemy is the only possible means to peace and safety —  the imperialists are winning.
And part of their armoury is projection of wishful thinking and delusions.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, you don’t solve the problem of a wild beast by inciting others to become wild beasts.

Even if the new players win, they will remain what they have become—and thus the new problem facing our world, identical to the old one.

Generalizing evil in the name of eradicating it is not a winning strategy.

As a (somewhat) Trotskyist (which naturally means an anti-Stalinist) I have to say no, I don’t believe we came to any such consensus. Most of what you wrote is mainly anti-Bolshevik horseshit.

And no, I have read Solzhenitsyn and I accept his accounts, but that all occurred after Trotsky had been exiled and was no longer in control of anything in the USSR. Trotsky made many mistakes, true, but committed no “atrocities” that we know of.

I believe things would have turned out radically differently had Lenin’s testament been made public and Stalin sidelined, but of course we’ll never know, will we?

BREAKING PEPE: The MOU ‘Coma’ Was Fake-Iran, Oman and Pakistan’s SECRET Gulf Plan
https://youtu.be/bL1V-EJTAts?si=LQ9EAaYarA-RGo4l

“Sources on Transition Protocol claim that Iran and Oman have already moved toward controlling the Strait of Hormuz — the world’s most important oil chokepoint — with Pakistan and China allegedly backing a broader post-U.S. Gulf security architecture. In this episode, Zulfiqar Ali and Pepe Escobar examine whether the U.S.–Iran MOU is really dead, whether Trump is being pushed back to the table, and why the next phase may depend on frozen Iranian funds, Khamenei’s funeral timeline, and the Saudi–Pakistan defense track. This is a source-driven geopolitical breakdown. Public reporting has already confirmed major pieces of the wider context: the U.S.–Iran MOU, Pakistan/Qatar mediation, Hormuz reopening discussions, Oman–Iran sovereignty talks, UAE/Qatar frozen-funds movement, and debate inside Team Trump. The strongest claims are clearly framed as developing or source-based where independent confirmation is not yet available.”

I guess the question of the existence or reality of bullying depends on the definition used, the perspective the incident is viewed from, and which end of the stick one has hold of… it reminds me of debates around conflict of interest, where recognition of the fundamental principle where the perception of conflict of interest is every bit as important as the documentable or provable reality.

Trotsky also created the bloodthirsty system that his henchmen later evolved into the Gulag. That’s also undisputed.

Undisputed? Maybe from the probably tainted sources where you get this information from.

Trotsky’s notable project was the creation of the Red Army, practically from scratch, so it seems we can indirectly thank him for the defeat of the Nazis during WWII.

He had nothing to do with the creation of the Cheka, later the NKVD (and the KGB).

So Tucker Carlson now = populist?

I don’t hate the guy. I admire his willingness to admit his errors and mend his ways. He seems sincere.

I’ve got my eye on him.

Re: Trotsky

Quote 1 fron wiki:

……An army cannot be built without reprisals. Masses of men cannot be led to death unless the army command has the death-penalty in its arsenal. So long as those malicious tailless apes that are so proud of their technical achievements—the animals that we call men—will build armies and wage wars, the command will always be obliged to place the soldiers between the possible death in the front and the inevitable one in the rear. And yet armies are not built on fear. The Tsar’s army fell to pieces not because of any lack of reprisals. In his attempt to save it by restoring the death-penalty, Kerensky only finished it.

Upon the ashes of the great war, the Bolsheviks created a new army. These facts demand no explanation for any one who has even the slightest knowledge of the language of history. The strongest cement in the new army was the ideas of the October revolution, and the trainsupplied the front with this cement……

A controversial measure was hostage-taking of relatives of ex-Tsarist officials in the Red Army to prevent defection or betrayal……..

More Trotsky…..……,

…….. The Red Terror is a weapon utilized against a class, doomed to destruction, which does not wish to perish. If the White Terror can only retard the historical rise of the proletariat, the Red Terror hastens the destruction of the bourgeoisie.[121]…….,

What the fuck are you bleating about here?

Got nothing to do with “ethnicity” (which I gather is your supposition that I side with Trotsky because he was a Jew).

My reasons for admiring him have nothing whatsoever to do with his “ethnicity”. He was simply right, about 92% of the time, about what needed to be done to preserve the revolution in Russia against all its opponents (the Whites, ex-Tsarists, etc.). Something any decent revolutionary leader worth their salt would have done in his place. Compare to the Chinese revolution, the Cuban revolution, etc.

The opprobrium deployed against him is simply the bile of those who want to lay his successor, Stalin’s, excesses at his doorstep. Or of those who simply hate all of ’em because they’re “commies”.

No, that’s your mischaracterization of my position.

I don’t allow others to put words in my mouth.
