You and I may just disagree what the word “war” means. I cannot see classical war between EU and Russia either, with tanks and soldiers… it started like this in 2022 and became less and less of that. The EU-Russia front would be much larger than the already large front in Ukraine.
Very true. Almost all of EU (few slightly less belligerent exceptions such as Spain) is hell-bent on more soldiers, more tanks etc. I agree with you that they want to build *one EUropean army* but I insist that they’re getting instead *many armies*. This may become relevant soon because one way to discharge all pent-up potential is an inner-EUropean war.
This is what they tell us and I know plenty of people who truly worry that the “Russians gonna attack us!”. That won’t happen: not only does it make no sense for Russia to attack EU (conventially or otherwise), it’s also a losing proposition: no tanks in Berlin this time (sadly, some of my German friends say). Why do EU governments and Brussels tell us that Russia “will attack Europe by 2030 the latest”? The IMO naive answer is: because they think it’s true. I cannot know what Macron, Merz, Kallas etc. think — they may well believe that Putin’s gonna come over. But the professionals do know that it won’t happen and occassionally they say so: SACEUR (NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe) Alexus Grynkevich (from USA, as always) officially proclaimed in June that according to his intelligence, “Russia is not seeking conflict with the Alliance.” Now there’s no reason to take the SACEUR’s words as gospel and one can and should discuss why he said that, and why he said that now… but my point is that EU’s “we need to build a large army against Russia’s upcoming attack” is propaganda only.
Here I disagree but we don’t need to quibble about semantics. If your point is that a military conflict cannot be won through the air alone (bombs, missiles, drones) then I agree in general but: Serbia 1999. They were bombed into submission. (Won’t happen with Russia, of course.) Posted by: Konami | Jul 1 2026 8:35 utc | 315 I see the time limit for concluding the SMO demanded by natoddlers has been revised to 4 years now from the previous 2 weeks and 3 days limits. Somebody should inform the Kremlin. Bueller? GM? Bipruneoxi? Time for you to shine and present the ultimatum to Putin yourself. Posted by: pinche | Jul 1 2026 8:42 utc | 316

NAFO apocalyptic still praying for nuclear war, inventing “strategic weapons facility” in Russia hit, without any evidence. Posted by: aquadraht | Jul 1 2026 9:12 utc | 318 When military drones and cruise missiles are flying into your airspace and territory, that is an invasion, or better put, WAR. Posted by: OXI | Jul 1 2026 9:19 utc | 319 Posted by: OXI | Jul 1 2026 9:33 utc | 320 Just imagine war is over. Posted by: The Far Side | Jul 1 2026 9:36 utc | 321 Blah blah blah NAFO agreed talking points. Putin out of options. Can’t protect his people. Nuclear this and that. Posted by: Avtonom | Jul 1 2026 10:27 utc | 330 Pro-Russia pundits (Mercouris, S Ritter, L Johnson, MoA etc.) To answer honestly would mean admitting Putin’s 2022 strategy was flawed from day one. They couldn’t do that without undermining their entire narrative of Russian masterfulness. Posted by: Prunella Scales | Jul 1 2026 10:29 utc | 331 Lol You’re not very good at this are you. Plus it would explain the inability to provide sources backing up the assertions, because the assertions have been scraped and re-compiled from Western MSM feeds. He’s brilliant at explaining why the war started (NATO expansion, etc.). But he’s never convincingly answered “Then what?” because his framework is realist geopolitics, and realism has no good answer to a war that has no exit. What I said makes cogent sense in the context of my comment, and the material discussed that led up to it. Which relies on commentators just like Mearsheimer in their interview podcasts. He doesn’t get his words perfect every time either, and frankly it’s doesn’t even matter. While Ritter and others can be hopeless. Posted by: Prunella Scales | Jul 1 2026 12:16 utc | 357

Certainly not. Don’t know where you learnt manners, in a brothel, or a prison. Certainly I wont answer your nonsense.

It doesn’t get much more Western deep-state than that, which raises a question: why are they running with this particular angle? Has Zelensky pushed Western patience and forbearance too far?
