DPRK slams ‘reckless’ provocation, warns of consequences
At a press conference in Pyongyang on 15 May, a DPRK foreign ministry spokesperson made the following comments in response to the British state’s hostile action:

I’ll present the answers in multiple choice format. Of course, since I wrote them, they are all correct (spoken humbly and reverently, with averted eyes, of course); but I have generously provided the option of you being able to choose the correct one that you feel is correct.

*This is mathematically and physically continuous – some proposed solutions have misunderstood that requirement, and just go on, and on, and on… like some indulgent posters…

They can be solved numerically, not 100% accurate of course but if you want more accurate just slice it finer and buy a bigger machine. That’s the normal approach.
 
I’m sure the mathematics department finds this unsatisfactory, but anyway it works. If they are suggesting that somehow certain specific boundary conditions result in something which cannot be calculated then I say it’s on them to put forward and example where a numerical solution fails to converge.
 
There’s turbulence obviously … if that’s what they are getting at … and we know that no dynamic system containing chaos can ever be calculated long term via any differential equations. I mean top marks to Lorenz who I think was first to mention this, but doesn’t seem worth banging the table over and over for the same thing. If the question is really, “I want a long term solution to a system of chaotic differential equations” … then the answer is, no one can do that. Not even for simple three variable examples. Indeed, there’s probably good reason why it will never be done … even in the physical world your precision rapidly descends to the Plank distance and then quantum noise bubbles up into anything you build.
 
In practice, what we do is say, “Turbulence is turbulence” and just stop there without a specific answer as each point. Again, mathematicians unhappy, but pragmatism usually wins.

Yes – all good, I don’t think anyone is questioning the validity of the Navier-Stokes Equation, and I don’t think there is much optimism for finding an analytic solution to general – or specific – turbulent systems. 
 
But mathematicians seem to like proof – like tying a bow in a ribbon around the box that houses the equation – whereas physicists like to have stories that help them understand (reading an equation is the most beautiful bedtime story!) and engineers just love their nice toolbox. Maybe…
