No Need To Waste Europe – by English Outsider

by English Outsider

lifted from a comment

Such a lot of nonsense being talked at the moment.  Sorry, Gentlemen, (the Ladies, fortunately, are immune) but there’s any amount of it I’ve been reading here too.

I’d guess that a good half here are Ritter acolytes.  Lay waste Europe.  Bomb them to hell.  Don’t let’s pussyfoot around any more.

On Martyanov’s site I saw the video of Ritter delivering that message in Russia.   At the St Petersburg conference.   Has Ritter  lost his mind?  I wrote in to reply to Larch on the subject.  Many of “b’s” commenters will know Larch because he’s a fund of information on the ins and outs of the Ukrainian war since 2014.  Great bloke.

Larch – Ritter’s way off in that video clip. Karaganov plus. They’ll be listening to him at SPIEF and thinking, is that sort of rabid nonsense all Ritter has to offer us? It’s Curtis LeMay thinking, make the rubble bounce, no use at all when working out how to defuse a confrontation the Russians aren’t looking to extend.

Ritter’s Intel and arms control background, plus his ability to marshal a whole lot of information he has at his fingertips and that most of us don’t, make him a valuable analyst – when he’s not going off the deep end which he does far too often. And for all his undoubted analytical ability he doesn’t seem to grasp the underlying reality.

That is, that the Americans, for all Trump’s increasingly lame PR, are still key players in the conflict in Ukraine. Those drone and missile attacks into Russia would not be possible but for American ISR and planning assistance to go with it. Same for the sabotage and assassination missions being run into Russia. Much of the supply of arms is also still down to the US. Indirectly, again in spite of Trump’s PR, financial support too. The logistics are still being run from Wiesbaden and we’re fools if we think that the Americans, whose expertise in logistics is far superior to the European’s, aren’t key in that too.

So the full scale attack Ritter is calling for would be an attack on American assets too. What’s Ritter up to, going to a big conference in St Petersburg and calling for that?

All Ritter’s doing is showing the Russians that the Americans, whether it’s hawks like Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham or dissidents like Ritter, are in an advanced state of hysteria all round and need to be handled very carefully if they’re not to harm themselves and others. But I think the Russians know that already.

I should add that there are plenty of good people in Europe who have the gravest reservations about EU foreign policy. Believe it or not, that goes for Britain too. Responsible voices in England are calling for our UK foreign policy to be changed. Ian Proud, Commodore Jermy, the late Lord Skidelsky, the invaluable Mercouris, Dr Rob Campbell, many others.

Far as I can see they’re not making much headway but they’re all in their various ways working at getting a more accurate and rational view of the Ukrainian conflict through to the public here and abroad. Ritter can do that when he’s not losing it but when he does lose it as he does in that video, he discredits all those attempts and his own too.

And I’m going to guess that many of the commenters on “b’s” site bellowing “nuke everything” are just shooting a line.  They’re just thoroughly fed up with the mess their various countries have got themselves into and are expressing that dissatisfaction through hyperbole.

b here:

I agree with the above. Ritter is talking nonsense (with Larry Johnson and Pepe Escobar not far behind).

The current ‘Ukraine is wining’ propaganda coming from all NATO channels seems to have influenced quite a few of these people. It is bullshit.

Professor Mearsheimer has studied at West Point and was an air-force officer for some ten years before becoming an academic expert in international relations. His assessments of military realities are sound and grounded in facts.

In his latest talk with Judge Napolitano just hours ago, he agrees with my view that the situation in Ukraine has not changed:

The Russians are winning on the battlefield. For sure. And not as quickly as I’m sure the Russian people and Russian leaders would like, but they are moving inexorably forward. And the Ukrainian military is in deep trouble.

They’re unable to raise large numbers of troops to replace those who are killed in battle. And furthermore, they have a huge problem with desertions. I would estimate that the Russians outnumber the Ukrainians in terms of in terms of combat forces on the front lines uh probably two to one.

The Russians have an abundance of equipment or weaponry to use against Ukraine because of their massive industrial base. And because the United States and a number of European countries are no longer able to provide as much weaponry to Ukraine as they have in the past, the Ukrainians are having real trouble uh matching the Russians in terms of weaponry available on the battlefield.

Yes, drones are helping uh the Ukrainians maintain the front lines, somewhat on the front lines, but only up to a limited extent. And I think as we move forward, what you’ll see is that the Russians will end up capturing all of the territory in those four Oblasts that they have formally annexed. […] So they’re in an excellent position and very importantly Ukraine is not in a position to ever join NATO which was the principal goal of Russia from the beginning of this campaign.

Both strategies have its own merits.

The escalate to deescalate is basically the American strategy. If one (weaker) side backs down then it’s the optimal strategy. But if neither side back down and both sides use it, it’ll result in a short high intensity conflict that may favor existing US military doctrine and possibly end in nuclear annihilation.

The strategic patience strategy works if your assumption is that the US is a declining empire and time is on your side. You don’t race to escalate but drag the conflict out over a long period. The attrition applies further stress to the fault lines of the declining empire and accelerate its decline. It’ll still result in many deaths but likely less than if both sides go full throttle.

It’s not unlike poker strategy where one side aggressively bets, hoping the other side will fold, while the other is slow rolling the opponent with calls only to get them to commit more cash to your (presumably) winning hand.

I agree with B and English Insider but what is Russia’s exit plan here?
NATO will never stop killing Russians as long as they can do so with impunity and turning the other cheek, as Russia has done since the 1990s, only encourages the US and E.phew to escalate. Regime change in Europe is the only real off ramp for Russia short of restoring deterrence by attacking NATO (US included) directly. What are the odds that governments in the EU that hope to end the war will come to power?  Everything possible is already being done to keep such parties out of power.
What does that leave Russia with?  Hitting NATO. They can start putting boundaries on NATO by hitting the spy planes that direct drones in the black sea, the baltics or Finns. NATO are a bunch of cowards. Start shooting and they will run away. Russia doesn’t need to strike within other NATO states, not initially.

The “Americans continue being a key part in the conflict in Ukraine….but…Zelensky goes to meet King Charles one time after another…..it was Boris Johnson who traveled to avoid the Estambul Peace Agreement….and former Ukrainian Junta officials, when leaving office, end either in in London, Washington or Tel Aviv….where it happens to end as well all the stolen EU taxpayers money by pure casuality….
Thus, the average EU taxpayer only needs to add to know who is behind this war, fuelling it,  draining decades of hard work on the part of European working people.
None of the beneficiaries add to the EU budget, they simply have associated themselves to suck us dry….sucking our future….

Btw, can anyone tell me why Aragchi called Ivette Cooper as Iran reatliated on Israel over Lebanon genocide?

The Britons are involved in all the current wars, they destroyed Syria, with the uneatimbale help of the “Americans”, French and Turks…..
There are people in Syria now suffering of famine, when previously they had a prosperous country with a welfare state not so different from the European…and that they should thank to King Charles and his MI6….the people behind the destruction of Europe….and the world…..

probably watchers format gets abused, but here it is regardless from the previous ukraine thread..

I think the Russia should attack NATO crowd are either fools o0r trolls. Take a look at a map and THINK. If Russia directly attacks a NATO nation then what would happen:

  1.  The USA was of course the main enemy and would have started a bombing campaign agains all parts of Russia. Naval blockades of all Russian ports to be expected
  2. UK, Germany, Denmark and probably France would immediately mobilise forces and get ready to invade/attack. Russia seaborne exports would immediately be vulnerable. There effect would be devastating for Russian surface fleet which is not strong. The impact would be global
  3. Sweden, Norway and Finland would have attacked Russia in the north, blocking or weakening that area. Very dangerous for Russia
  4. The three Baltics (with Germany and Denmark) would block access to the Baltic Sea and threaten their own Russian population
  5. Poland until recently would have been the first attack dog but something NOW suggests a shift but until late last year Russia could have expected a full on Polish intervention
  6. Bulgaria and Moldova also would almost certainly have joined forces with NATO and would be important staging grounds
  7. Turkey would be forced to either stick with NATO and block Russia exit to the Mediterranean or leave NATO. Best guess it would stick with NATO with promise of expansion of influence into the Caucasus
  8. Greece seems a full on NATO nation now despite its history.
  9. Italy would also join in and probably Spain and Portugal
  10. Israel of course and probably Lebanon would join in, effectively making the Mediterranean impassable. Israeli 5th column in Russia would be damaging
  11. In the far east Japan would have joined in at attack on Russia, and  Oceanic nations like Australia would have joined with enthusiasm
  12. Along its Southern borde some of the nations would have propobably turned on Russia or at least provided a covert staging post for attack (still do)
  13. Attack via the Caspian wpould have been the final nail in the Russian coffin

So what would Russia then do. Sure it has a few allies, but relying on military weak nations in the Caucusus or Belarus is hardly a realistic strategy.  Allies in the Caribbean much, much too weak and vulnerable. China may choose to assist, but it is also suicidal for China to take on the whole of the west. Surviving against so many enemies would be impossible except by going MASSIVE nuclear. Not some little diddly squat strategic nuke but the full on Armageddon.  Essentially Russia’s ONLY option.  So look at a map and THINK. is Armageddon what you want. Because faced with the scenario above Russia would reply with 3000 nukes in the USA,  Japan and Europe  Bye bye London Paris,  Amsterdam, Marseilles, Warsaw, Istanbul, Athens, Boston , New York, Washington DC, Seattle, Chicago , Detroit, Houston etc. Oh and just in case you think you have a hidey hole the last 2000 nukes can be sent to Patagonia, NZ. Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Alice Springs and Darwin (last two  actually early on).

Certainly, Russia will achieve its objectives in Ukraine, albeit at an increasingly high cost. I am not convinced by Putin’s tactics; the arrogant, conceited Europeans do not believe in the Russians’ objective military superiority, which, whilst not sufficient to conquer Europe, is certainly enough to cause enormous damage. Their hubris would be curbed if Russia were to respond immediately to the manifold breaches of red lines, just as Iran is now doing, at least to some extent. Incidentally, I am not convinced by Xi’s behaviour either. It is honourable and understandable to wish to avoid a direct military confrontation with the usa, but this is perceived by the usa as a sign of weakness. I am, however, convinced that the usa will force this war. In the meantime, it is taking out other states it views as enemies and, at least so far, remains completely unchallenged in doing so. Take Venezuela, take Cuba. I am appalled that Russia and China are not defending Cuba much more resolutely, as was the case during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the ’60s.

Russians too, get out of our world,.Iranians,. Persians, you’d be happier living in a Trump, Kushner tower, Moscow, St Petersburg and Tehran.   It’s our manifest destiny.   Our delusions are crashing us out, these enduring societies will outlast us, they’ve just got to get us out the door without breaking something or vomiting on the rug

Pynx, Russia has completely taken the Donboss , or is weeks from holding all the land to the natural border the Dnipro river, Kiev and Odessa, Putin has said are pearls that could anchor Ukraine.  He apparently doesn’t want to leave a rump state.  But if Western meddling persists, Kiev and Odessa stand as leverage for Russia.   We seek to win, Iran and Russia have obviously it sought and end, for we never stop, they’ve sought leverage.   We’re not playing chess, but wrestling/judo and once again outclassed

Posted by: Scottindallas | Jun 9 2026 21:47 utc | 114

there are plenty of good people in Europe who have the gravest reservations about EU foreign policy
Meanwhile, weapons produced and supplied by the “good people” of Europe blow up daily in Russia. I find it insulting that Russia must refrain from retaliating against the EU because “there are plenty of good people living there,” in a war unleashed by the West. Why should Russia spare an enemy because of a few ‘responsible voices’? At some point, Russia will have to do what it must do. West have no idea how much Russia is FED UP with Europe, but everyone will catch up quick, should big war break out.

Im also appalled, appalled I tell you, that Russia and China haven’t sent more words in defense of Cuba against all the words from America.

James, I think it’s more likely China stretches it’s arms in the Pacific, what’s going on in the Philippines?  Just little passive aggressive drills and whatnot to remind the US there’s a 3rd theater.  The whole US empire may not survive midterm elections, if we discuss budget priorities, if Israel remains a hot potato (they’ll want us talking domestic policy, but with out debt, that leads back to foreign policy and Trump’s words, we can’t afford Social Security and wars)

Posted by: Scottindallas | Jun 9 2026 21:53 utc | 119

b.  ‘Ritter is talking nonsense (with Larry Johnson and Pepe Escobar not far behind).’

The Americans have simplified their shocking , disgusting , colonial , violent theft of West Asia into a silly domestic dispute between two Abrahamic brothers that have to be treated equally in Liberal politucs.

The reason for the fictions created by Ritter, CIA Larry Johnson and Pepe, about Iranian Nukes that don’t exist is to suggest, completely dishonestly , that if Iran has Nukes, then , to balance that , poor lickle Iswael should get Lebanon and  call it quits

USUKIS never, ever, calls it quits.
It constantly mixes up retarded domestic family  politics with Global Power politics , for public consumption.

Then it is accusing Iran of being  not fair wanting to control Lebanon like a toddler who has just lost their lolly on the floor the supermarket and is screaming for it.

Fortunately Muslims are trained to exercise patience with manipulative Epstein paedophiles.

Allah commands Muslims to fight the people who bomb, kill and displace innocent civilians.

And Fight is what USUKIS is going to get.

Advocating for the wholesale annihilation of any peoples is a typical Western response to antagonism, whether that antagonism is from peer adversaries or lesser states. Such policies serve to escalate hostilities, not end them, which should be peace advocates and opponents of imperial aggression goal. However, the peoples of Europe have not exercised their democratic power to oust the warmongers who are leading them and advocating, by their policies, for war against Russia, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, etc. The peoples of Europe are just as easily subjected to the same ethnic nationalist supremacy as Americans and Israelis which their power elites utilize to wage wars and oppression. Annihilating the power elites of the US, Europe, Israel would be a worldwide public good, but no one is going to do it until the these nations suffer devastating, unconditional defeats. That is why the peoples of Europe and America need to discover ways to unite through class solidarity and reject appeals to ethnic, sectarian, sexual, and nationalist identities, which have been devised to divide them. Until that occurs, wholesale annihilation for capital and special interests will prevail and eventually end up destroying America and Europe.

JM says Russian troops outnumber Ukrainian troops at the battle front by 2 to 1. That is a very large reduction. It used to be 5 to 1. Inadvertently JM highlighted a serious issue that explains battlefield stagnation.

Nuking Europe is simply insane. There is no requirement for that and the consequences for Russia will be nasty. Instead Russia should selectively nuke Kiev, Kharkiv, Mikolaiv, Lvov and Odessa. Remaining Ukrainians will leave Ukraine and rush into Europe causing a massive rift. Europeans will be weary of radioactive material and refuse to accept them. It will collapse Ukraine and its ties with Europe. Exactly what guarantees safety and security of Russia.

It will serve as a powerful lesson to “apocalypse-crazy” Europe about the dangers of nukes forcing it to back down from nuclear-arming itself.

This is speculative on my part but, let me try to answer why the answer was/is/will-be a resounding NO!  Rich, powerful people like being rich, they like being in control…all that goes away instantly should the world respond as the above cited poster describes.  If Russia starts punching back the west will do just as it did in the Cold-War…they’ll huff, they’ll puff and then they’ll struggle like hell to reach an accommodation.  Below I cite Nixon’s efforts but, Reagan did exactly the same…talked a lot of shit but, made deal after deal, not because either guy was some hippy-dippy-peacenik…NO!   Because, Rich, Powerful people like being rich, they like being in control, they might be sociopaths but…a nuclear war?  That would take all of that away from them and they’re not that stupid, trade the good life for sixty years in a hole?  Oh for fux’s sake.

The Moscow Summit of 1972, as the meetings between the two were known, was held from May 22 and May 30, 1972. Coming on the heels of his much celebrated visited to China, the Moscow Summit was a signature success for Nixon. It was a seminal event in the development of East-West Cold War detente.  This summit resulted in significant agreements, including the signing of the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT I) and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, marking a key moment in the détente between the U.S. and the Soviet Union

I am not sure why there are Ritter acolytes. Indeed i do not understand the blind following of anyone (even B)

Look Ritter is ex US army so he thinks like a US army guy not like a Russian

Second Ritter is getting old and is essentially past his use by date. This is sad. It happens to all of us but he has been out of the game so long now that his contacts must inevitably be fading. They will have retired or died.  He is desperately seeking continued relevance and like so many of us he is resorting to emotional click bait, which as I say is heavily coloured by his US military experience.

Needing more contacts Ritter will be searching hard and thus is easy prey for deliberate disinformation

Listen to him certainly as he will have the occasional words of wisdom, but remember he is yesterday’s man and ex CIA as well.

my own simplistic take…

offense and defense…. the usa and friends are typically offensive… russia is more defense…. we’ll see if all the western folks who are so attached to offense are right in their speculation and that russia ought to adopt an offensive position….   as i said before, william gruffs posts a few threads back had a lot of merit… we might be climbing the escalation ladder here, but there are a number of possible scenarios including the idea that the ladder can get kicked out from under some folks nose… so, we’ll see… i remain cautiously optimistic things will work out..

Thanks for the post b and EO, in these times of hysteria, it is good and refreshing to be able to read thoughtful and reasoned viewpoints, based on facts and not frustrations.

Recently, I also wrote about my serious doubts regarding the “theories” of Ritter and many other commentators in “nuke them all” mode. Someone here legitimately asked the question: Is Ritter acting on orders? The Russians certainly don’t need such advice, and it only reinforces their low opinion of us.We must act every day, take at least one concrete action, however simple, however mundane, against the ongoing genocide in Palestine; cursing the zionists is not enough.

And we must also act, as often as possible, in the real world, against the military and economic wars being waged against Palestine, Russia, Iran, Cuba, against so many nations, peoples, and children. Rise up people of the world : no war but the class war !

Sorry to sound like a broken record but i think the Russian caution and slow progress is influenced by many factors, mostly NOT directly to do with Ukraine,

First Russia fears nuclear attack or at least thinks it possible. It might seem laughable to think that Europe would use nukes on Russia, but remember if Europe used all of its 450 nukes it could probably take out St Petersburg and Moscow, despite Russian air defence. Europeans would be assuming that the USA would have their backs if Russia retaliated in kind.  Remember these facts:

  • Churchill was very keen to nuke Russia and had a plan to take out 200 cities
  • Maggie Thatcher planned to nuke Argentina, which is why in the end France betrayed Argentina and gave UK the codes for their exocet missiles. It was to avoid nuclear war.
  • Europe is currently ruled by incompetent fools or madmen. Hard to believe I know – but just think, weak and under siege Starmer, Mad Macron (probably a coke sniffer), genuinely insane, NAZI sympathiser Mertz,  and may the lord preserve us bimbos like Kallas and Von de Leyden (NO I AM NOT SEXIST about women but those two fit the description). Far more worrying is that I see no signs of Europe returning to sanity

Second Russia expects WWIII to start when it would be simultaneously attacked by 50 or more nations (expects perhaps is too strong a word but sees it as a very high chance)

Third in 2025, Russia more or less removed the USA from the IMMEDIATE equation and went into a high energy war in the Donbass and Zaporizhia. Progress in the second half of 2025 and January 2026 was significant.

Then Iran happened.  Now I obviously have no knowledge of Russian military matters but I am assuming that in February 90% of Russian military focus AND 100% of spare equipment was moved to the Southern border. Russia would have been stupid if it did not.  The risk of Iran falling to the USA/Israel and regime change was very real.

It is quieter now and suddenly the tempo of Russian progress in Donbass has picked up. After nearly 4 months of nothing, Lyman and Kostianivka are back in play.

Professor Mearsheimer has studied at West Point and was an air-force officer for some ten years before becoming an academic expert in international relations. His assessments of military realities are sound and grounded in facts.

Can’t disagree more since the argument at its basis is that the Western Empire is a rational actor and can be trusted.  The dying empire is extremely irrational and gloats at how untrustworthy it is. There is no diplomatic solution. The west will continue to rampage across the globe until someone or a group of someone’s beats the everliving crap out of it. Its not just the bought-and-paid-for politicians, it’s the global elite. They want it all. NOW.My radical suggestion is: delete the billionaires. Bomb their bunkers and estates. Destroy Wall Street. Destroy the City of London. Defeat the empire at its source.  Ignore the politicians and the military.  The demons behind the scene are not civilian targets. They are the root cause.

“Force Requirements for Palestine,” dated March 31, 1948.This memorandum was prepared by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) for President Harry S. Truman. It was a pivotal document in the U.S. decision to briefly pivot from the UN Partition Plan to a “temporary trusteeship,” as the military leadership was deeply concerned that enforcing partition would require a massive commitment of U.S. troops that the military could not currently sustain.Report Summary: JCS 1887The JCS was asked to estimate the forces required to maintain order under a UN trusteeship if both Jewish and Arab leadership agreed to a truce.BranchEstimated Force RequirementsArmy100,076 personnel (1 Corps consisting of 3 Infantry Divisions plus support units).Navy6 Destroyers or destroyer escorts and 6 Patrol Craft (for harbor and coastal patrol).Air Force3124 personnel across 4 specialized squadrons (Transport, Liaison, Reconnaissance, and Photo-Fighters).Key Conclusions of the Joint ChiefsThe report emphasized several high-risk military implications for the United States:Overextension: The JCS noted that deploying these forces would “further over-extend” the U.S. military, which was already stretched thin by post-WWII occupations and emerging Cold War commitments.Mobilization: Deploying 100,000 troops would likely require a partial mobilization (a draft) and a supplementary budget to handle the costs.Strategic Reserve: The U.S. would lose the bulk of its “general reserve” forces for at least six months, leaving the mainland vulnerable or unable to respond to crises elsewhere.Where to Find the Full TextThe full text of this memorandum is public and can be found in the official Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) archives.Source: Foreign Relations of the United States, 1948, The Near East, South Asia, and Africa, Volume V, Part 2.  Document Number: 135Official Archive Link: Memorandum by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to President Truman (Document 135)

Thank you b, and Outsider. On the nuclear issue let me just add one point — it wou;d diminish the reputation of Iran greatly for it to join the nuclear ‘club’ in my view.  The crazy zionists would not be in any way set back by their doing this, and if the planet is to survive, if Palestine is to survive, surely the threat of nuclear weaponry threatens all, Palestine included!  I see my esteemed Larry Wilkerson even suggesting this path, and I wish he would not.

How can there be a future Palestinian state — (and I believe there must be,  temporarily federated under the wing of Iran if must be) —  if the land has been so polluted,  even just as a threat?  I don’t think Israel deserves to be a state, not ever.  It is a religious entity at best,  and at present it has lifetimes worth of struggles ahead, even to return to that description.  Other religious entities have survived such bloody fanaticisms;  (bear with me — I can’t really think of one at present, so let Israel be the first to do it.)

If they are thinking of doing that in Patagonia,  I wonder what the Patagonians think of the idea?  Better by far to become humble penitent workers of the soil planting olive trees and tending their masters’ sheep in a land called Palestine.  Give it a century or two, see how it goes; see if God will forgive them.

“…the situation in Ukraine has not changed…”

I agree! It’s the situation in Russia that’s changed.

Crimea is now for the first time under fuel rationing. The land corridor is all but cut off by Ukranazi drones. Trains are being diverted. Russian assets as far as Karelia are now under threat/actual attack. More and more Russia is being forced to allocate its efforts into air defence against masses of cheap drones, which ultimately will have the same effect as with America against Iran and zionazistan against Hezbollah, that is,  the drone launcher side will eventually wear out and exhaust the defence. No Russian advance on the ground will mean anything when the supply lines are cut off and production is imperilled. Meanwhile Russia, which declared NATO satellites a legitimate target in 2022, still won’t eliminate them 4 years later and ex Google CEO Eric Schmidt is buying up property in Kiev (you know how people buy up property that they think will be lost to am enemy,  right?)

Taking and holding Kyiv was never part of Russia’s plan. And this was one of the main reasons of the war: devaluing and depopulating Ukraine so that “western” oligarchical interests could play their disaster capitalism game. Farmland, pricey urban real estate in the western part of the country, etc. So the fact that some billionaire is buying property should not be a surprise to you, nor does it reflect on Russia’s progress or war aims.

Crimea’s water supply has also always been a gambit used by the Ukronazis. The reports of supply lines being completely cut off are highly exaggerated.  But sure, Russia should launch direct ballistic missile attacks on US/UK and other NATO bases. That would be very productive….if you want to see WWIII kick off in earnest.

It’s creativity and nimbleness that Putin lacks, and the ability to be disrespectful towards the European hacks waging war against his country. Embarrass them. Why, for example, are Euro leaders allowed to visit Kiev freely now? Treat them like the enemies they are.
Nonetheless, Russia is winning gradually. But if there is no Ukrainian collapse this could take 3-5 more years. Is that pace bad for Russia? Depends on what crimes the US/Euros are willing to commit.

Strong takes. I disagree only in characterising Putin as an oligarch. But he’s sympathetic, naïve and trusting toward the oligarch gangsters currently running the Western empire, which is bad enough.
If one of the goals of the war is to create a peaceful western border, the rabid dog needs to learn is gets hurt very badly if it bites its eastern neighbor. That’s not happening. Obviously this doesn’t need to be with nukes, but targeting the globalist 1% is one reasonable alternative. Look how Iran targeted not the US or Israel but their Gulf vassals.
But it seems Putin isn’t good at disrespectful asymmetric warfare.

I agree that Ritter was false in some remarkable way and late May sounded even like some EU clones re: the war.
I doubt that´s due to EU PR though. It must be groups in Russia connected to the SPIEF e.g. as Russia is pretty heterogeneous and many groups of limited size have their own agenda.
Also Ritter says what he says simply to make an argument for peace via scaremongering of WWIII. The basis of it is erroneous unfortunately.
I would doubt Mearsheimer´s in depth military analysis of Russia. His understanding there is seriously limited. Up to a point where he falls for Ukrainian propaganda claims.
Sadly Jacques Baud has stopped providing us with analyses on RU/UKR – for obvious reasons I guess – but his assessments still stand.
So read/listen to what he said until early 2026 (after that sanctions) and you will get a sound idea.
I don´t know if there is any genuine American who is fit to speak about Russia as a former military, Daniel Davis maybe? Larry Johnson is not military in the sense I mean although I trust him more than Mearsheimer. Wilkerson I don´t know whether he understands Russian military. Macgregor I haven´t listened to in ages. Does William Schryver provide any long pieces? People like Leee Slusher have stopped posting.
I am sure others can provide a few names.
Eventually I am falling back on Martyanov. BlackMA on certain issues. And with caution depending on quoted sources, Simplicius.
p.s. Unfortunately European peace movement takes people like Karaganov very seriously. That´s because they have almost no military expertise.

Thank you, karlof1, very much appreciated.  I have to say I am at a loss over Larry’s and Pepe’s announcement, and Pepe’s article which you helpfully linked doesn’t shed much light for me.  I wonder if the answer lies not so much in the ‘attrition’ definition as in the care for the Ukrainian people with which the SMO was begun.  That it seems to me outweighs any other military component as far as world opinion or understanding of what was a root cause of the conflict, a reason for Putin finally having to come forward in order to protect that civilian population.  As you said here, this makes what is happening in Ukraine need to be seen in a larger context than simply the acquisition of  (or retention of) territory,  because it focusses on, not win or lose but the restoration of what the Chinese call ‘harmony’ – a peaceful civilian life.  Which cannot be maintained in the forceful nazification of said civilian population.

That’s how, it seems to me, attrition makes historical sense.  The original nazis weren’t cowed by the potentially devastating nuclear threat.  Armies had to conquer them.  Whereas for Japan it was different; they could be, and were,  deeply affected by that horror.   And it was new enough for us to have the excuse of not knowing how devastating it would be  to the civilian population — devastating and longlasting.   Germany was trying to get its own bomb, attacking cities with what they had.  And we , at least I, dont think of the Dresden holocaust as a wonderful moment of WW2 achievement.  But indeed, war is war, dreadful to contemplate whatever the tactics that are used  trying to achieve sooner the end of it all.  I can see where the guys we know and love are coming from — I just don’t think this is the way forward.  Nuclear is/was a terrible weapon.  And clearly for N. Korea it works as a deterrent.  Not so sure that would be the case against Israel.

Well, it has made us think, and that’s a good thing.

Maybe a solution to the obsession of World Leaders with warfare as a cure-all could be addressed with Vallium?

~ 40 years ago a Department Head in the Public Works Dept, with whom I was acquainted, returned to work after a long absence on Stress Leave.
I asked him how he’s going now, and he replied “Fantastic! They’ve got me on Vallium and I don’t give a shit about anything!”

So maybe it’d be beneficial to lace the ventilation systems of Parliamentary Chambers & Offices, and the homes of politicians, with Vallium powder?
i.e. Most of them don’t seem to give a shit about anything except the whims of their Donors, in 2026.

I remember a similar pile-on in April-May 2022 when Ritter predicted that massive NATO arms transfers and intelligence-sharing would change the course of the war and push Russian victory off by about a year. At the time I thought Ritter was engaging in hyperbole, and that Russia would simply call up 300-400,000 reservists to hold the front against NATO outside Ukraine while freeing up an equivalent number of professionals. But Ritter knew that the Russian reserve system was completely different from that of the West, and that it would take many months if not years to deploy the forces required once the decision was made. I tend to take what Ritter has to say seriously, but not as gospel.

Posted by: Surferket | Jun 9 2026 18:00 utc | 27

That’s a good point. Now it would be interesting to try to define different types of retaliations/escalations :

  1. covert escalation that looks like accident : East Palestine train chemical spill? Baltimore harbour bridge?
  2. deniable major escalation : something everyone knows who did it, but the perpetrators deny it and comes up with some fairy tale (example NATO blowing up North Stream)
  3. undeniable minor off-territory escalation : the perpetrator don’t deny it did it, but it is outside the adversary’s territory, in international waters or space (example blowing up reconnaissance drones, seizing cargo ships) or in a proxy (Ukraine)
  4. undeniable major off-territory escalation : blowing satellites, triggering kesseleration (debris destroying other satellites making orbit unusable)
  5. blowing up something in the adversary’s territory, through proxy : that’s something NATO has been doing, through Ukraine
  6. directly blowing up a military target in the adversary’s territory (like a NATO base) without proxy deniability
  7. bioweapons, against (a) crops (b) food animals (c) humans

Looks like the US/Nato has done all of the above except (4) and (6) while Russia is more prudent, it has only done (3), blowing up stuff in Ukraine (with Nato casualties).

Concerning Ritter’s probity and comments about his conviction on sex charges, I’d note that anyone who uses a conviction in a US court as proof of anything at all is barking up the wrong tree. The ‘best justice money can buy’ is abused to create kompromat with such enthusiasm by every agency in the country that it’s safer to assume anyone controversial is simply being told to shut up. Strauss-Kahn, Julian Assange and the entire Russiagate saga come instantly to mind. Critique Ritter for failure of analysis, not for state-controlled smears. That should be obvious to anyone at the bar.

And 4 years later Russian forces are still struggling in the Donbas. Clearing the Donbas is the very minimal and wouldn’t be a complete victory by a long shot but it would be a good start if it had been done within 2 years. Russia has achieved a messy stalemate at this point. Russia needs to do much better if it is going to genuinely win this war.

Synchronicity; I had sent this to my NM Senators and Congresswoman Stansbury today. I changed it a little, to address Cotton just now. Imagine if 10, 20 million emailed them, with the subject heading of Treason. It may not be smart to send emails titled “Treason” to the actual MICIMATT, but it is the truth.

“Dear Senator Cotton,

I’ve written the NM Senators a few months ago to request they do everything they can to avoid war on Iran. Now it turns out that Israel and the US Military will start to cooperate even more closely.

I believe that Section 224/NDAA is not only criminal but also treasonous. Israel cannot be allowed to receive US weapons in the first place since ‘our’ weapons are used for genocide.

I expect you to do the right thing, morally and ethically. We cannot have this degree of foreign interference, and still claim to have a democracy. Also, AIPAC must be registered as FARA. Your legacy will reflect if you were actively choosing humanity or helping the MICIMATT.

Choose wisely, Senator Cotton. Show your family and constituents what humility and common sense looks like. Lastly, we are almost 40 trillion in debt. What legacy will you leave, what are you doing to steer this sinking ship?

I will keep praying for peace, and for your wisdom to prevail in these dire times. Thank you, and Godspeed, Mr. Cotton!”

PS: my use of Godspeed was accidental in the emails, as an immigrant I always loved that word. Did not know it was an Arkansas expression, JohnH and Jonbo – sorry if misspelled.

Then explain why Ritter was false in any way.

Nothing Ritter said is new or controversial to the Russians. Their own leaders have already hinted at striking Europe. The fact that he was invited by SPIEF, allowed to speak openly, and broadcasted tells you more about real Russian thinking than any analysis out there. Ritter’s views are clearly valued by the RF and add far more to the conversation than Watcher’s “Russia fears 50 European nukes” or “Russia collapses the moment Europe attacks.”

Thanks for your reply. Recall what the V-1 and V-2 were called by the West–Terror Weapons–and now they’re normalized–drones and Zircons. The key bit of info in Pepe’s item is the clear involvement of the Chinese in arranging the end of the Persian Gulf conflict and how it seems China was able to corral the bigger Muslim nations into a loose coalition that includes Iran. I’d like to know what Xi and Putin’s frank assessment is of the Zionists, but we can only make estimates via observing their behavior including speech. Putin aimed his motivational phrase at Russians, but we in the world should also heed “Work, brother.”

When did i say Russia would collapse?  Learn to read.

It is SO, SO SO bloody obvious that if the whole of the western alliance attacked Russia together with some post regime change mobs in the South Russia would be in deep do do. Russia MUST, MUST, MUST be preparing for this scenario and if they have not then they deserve to be removed. The fact that you make fun of such a reality only makes you seem like a fool.

Everything Russia has done is based on the assumption that an attack is possible/probable.   If Russia directs more than 20% of its forces to Ukrain then it is foolish.

Use your brains if you have them. Stop thinking like a yankee doodle.  Russia has enemies on its borders. The USA has Canada and Mexico. Hardly threats. Are you SO, SO ignorant that you are not aware of the near regime change in Belarus and Kazakhstan and the threat from Azerbaijan and even Armenia.  Japan nearly took out the USSR in  the 1930s. Why the hell do you think Japan allied with Germany.

A war with NATO means not just Europe but also North America, Japan, Australia, NZ, South Korea and possibly India. Bloody hard to beat unless nukes are used.. Grow a brain

Then there is Doctorow advising recently the only way to proceed is for Russia to assassinate / take out Zelensky in Kiev.

The world is luckily overflowing with ‘experts’ these days. We are well served.

Russian wants to diffuse, but do European leaders? It’s strange behavior I notice from current enemies of the west. Mainly, they can’t seem to comprehend that they are not seen as equals, will never be seen as equals and will never be met with the sincerity they expect from rational people. The European leaders are not going to change. Do they dream of one day receiving awards and recognition in switzerland?? That they will one day rub elbows?? If yes, stop it. It’s pathetic.

I totally agree with Bob243 at 16 when he writes, “Complaining about Ritter’s delivery is all and well I suppose, but it ignores the underlying reality.  The Europeans (and the Americans) have pushed the line too far.  Let’s take a quick look at how far the range of “acceptable action” has been pushed.  Missile strikes on Russian strategic bomber bases?  Check.  Drone strikes on key Russian missile production infrastructure?  Check.  Drone strikes on Moscow?  Check.  Assasination campaigns against Russian leadership, inside Russia?  Check.  Invasion of Russia proper by an entire combined arms army equipped, led and to a great degreee manned, by the West?  Check.  At this point Russia lacks any real deterrent capability because the West is convinced that the Russians will never actually strike them back in kind, much less use nuclear weapons.  So what is Russia to do?  If they continue the policy of accepting these unacceptable attacks and limiting their retaliation to striking Ukraine (which has zero deterrent effect upon the West) what comes next?  The inescapable, if uncomfortable, truth is that we are on a road that can only end in nuclear war between Russia and the West.  Let that sink in for a moment.  So Ritter’s endorsement of direct Russian strikes against Europeans is not unhinged or crazy.  It is because he understands where this is going and his desperation to avoid an all out civilization ending nuclear war that he has come to the position he now espouses.  The Russians either take steps to re-establish deterrence vs the West or we are all doomed.  Any and all  criticizing Ritter should either put forward their plan to avoid nuclear armageddon or refrain from undercutting better men!”B, Commentators, do you have a better plan about how Russia can establish the deterrence necessary to keep the West from continuing to escalate in ignoring Russia’s red lines? If so, let’s hear it. If you don’t or won’, shut the f*ck up.

The Atlantacists in Britain and Europe are Fantacists about using thexUS to recover their lost Empire.

Any lie from America, even the resurrection by the US of European Fascism, and the massive fortification of Ukraine even before Maidan,  must be believed, obeyed and religiously followed.

This is the sole responsibility of the  Atlantacists , politicians, diplomats, corporations and fuckwits like Stsrmer and BoJo. Nothing whatsoever with the British or European peoples.
And yes,  Scott Ritter is 100% right that these Atlantacists must be eradicated, but Ritter forgets that it was the US Neocons that removed all wise , left wing politicians like Jeremy Corbyn, and put these  Atlantacist morons in power.

Ritter ‘s gun should be pointed to his own senior politicians, diplomats and military who put these Atlantacist wankers in power here.

Very interesting comments throughout this post. Some of them really excellent and put EO’s comments in the shade: Gruff, Watcher, Karlof, etc

So why then does b consistently elevate only EO to Moon of Albion status? It is an honest question that no one can answer. Maybe b himself can explain this odd bromance.

There are signs Russia and China are watching and learning from Iran’s “no tolerance” policy. Whether real or not, the rumor that Iran threatens to detonate a demonstration nuclear device on their own territory is a deterrence move Russia could use to give a wake-up call to the West that is short of a direct attack on Western facilities.Would it have the desired effect or not? I don’t know, but it would at least give some firework monkeys pause.

Using a metaphor to “shoot dead a rabid dog on the street” isn’t a sane military or geopolitical strategy for victory.

It’s a Social Media income enhancement strategy for grifters. Stunned this needs to be pointed out.

Given humans like to fight it seems unreasonable to expect – given our history- the wars are short affairs . I believe those whom instigate war are well aware of this tendency but what government can sell to its people 600 year war .  So government tries to convince the population that it is a 3 day affair . Trump did mention something about Iran killing innocent people for 47 years and he was going to put a stop to it . Odd 47 was the number AI gave as the often cited average length of war , and 47  years was the number of years Trump thinks Iran was behaving badly .

Suddenly Larry Johnson and Pepe Escobar are “without credibility” on MoA when they say things that clash with the ordained belief system du jour.

Well:

https://www.unz.com/pescobar/exclusive-the-real-story-behind-nuclear-iran-and-the-islamabad-accord/

Very important: a draft of this column was submitted earlier last week to a top Iranian official, part of the extremely tight circle around Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. His reaction: “I won’t comment on this matter”.

(This matter: the Iranian nuclear bomb.)

I assume that anyone with even a double digit IQ, let alone the MENSA candidates who inhabit the MoA comment section, will recognise the difference between “This is untrue” and “no comment”.

@107 Doctor 11
You mention Ritters conviction. I would point out that this occurred after Ritter took a principled stand in respect of the WMD investigations in Iraq, where he contradicted the false assertions of the US Govt.

This reeks of honey trap and smearing by the ever lying security state. Anyone who contradicts the narrative is an enemy and God help you if you are a well informed and credible one. Just ask Jaques Baud.

Agree or disagree with Ritter however you wish but I would be wary of Western smearing tactics.

Nothing Ritter says is dramatically different than what the Russians have saying.

Medvedev:

“The kidnapping of the same neo-Nazi Merz could be a great plot twist in this carnival series… There is a grain of realism in such a scenario.”

“In essence, the FRG never underwent any real denazification… The Anglo-Saxons, seeking to preserve the former leaders of Hitler’s war economy… conducted a campaign under the slogan ‘hang the small ones, justify the big ones’.”

Lavrov:
“Blatant indications of re-Nazification’ of modern-day Germany. Russia has deep concerns about German militarization.”

Putin:
Germany’s military support for Ukraine is “history repeating”. Russia faces a “new wave of Nazism,” directly likening Germany’s current support for Ukraine to what the Nazis did in Europe.

Are you sure you’re not the one thinking like a Yankee doodle? The entire post highlighted by on james @ 110 was your fear that Russia will collapse if Russia dared to attack Europe.
Majority of the EU countries have no delivery mechanism to launch ANY attacks on Russia. Best they can do is backline support like its already doing. Which is getting strained. Slovakia and Bulgaria have pulled Ukraine support. Poland getting sick of it and butting heads with Banderites.

Remember the entire western game plan is to annoy Russia enough that it’d abandon Ukraine, but not cross the threshold that it warrants an actual retaliation from Russia. It may come to that Russia would have to retaliate against some of that backline support to push back. But there is no scenario where Russia itself can be militarily conquered, because it always has a nuclear back stop.

Exactly. The decision to call up a force capable of prevailing on the battlefield, which in 2022 I thought was a relatively simple matter for a 1st-class land power, has still not been taken. In fact, we can’t even be sure if the necessary prerequisites for taking such a decision have been ordered. If previous episodes in the SMO are any guide Russia will find a counter to the Starlink-enabled drones hunting their logistics, but the time to prepare for the opportunity for offensive action this will provide is now.

Overt measures may have to wait until after the September elections, but the forces of the new Military Districts could be utilized if their deterrent role could be replaced with a combination of reservists and aggressive posturing of Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons. Ideally a measure of deterrence should be achieved before this point by targeting NATO ISR and deniable attacks on NATO infrastructure and/or shipping.

When you look at the system as a handful of philosophies and factions, you can get the impression it is a see-saw with important tipping points. I think this kind of thinking is what causes so much frustration for observers waiting for big swings in the wind vane of global politics. This is attractive because it can be summarized in short 15 minute podcasts.

In fact it seems more like the ensemble of human activity is far more dispersed, with the countless actors in the system each working independently, instead of in coordinated top-down fashion. The world is changing but always changes. Since now it is bigger with more distributed interests, it grinds slowly. This is not as exciting a story for YouTube vbloggers. The prognostication of the more passionate content providers often is based on cultural or emotional commentary. When I see that kind of content, I try not to take the provocative stuff too seriously.

😉 Eh, no one ever accused marines of being overly measured and preferring the patient long game.

😀 I find such personalities useful because they do have good instincts for upcoming threats and sound the alarm immediately, like a good guard dog. That said, we don’t let guard dog personalities do long-term logistics or strategic planning more than necessary, especially if there will be sacrificial losses to hold a position. They may be able to do the math, but they don’t have the emotional temperament to take the hits without reacting. They are more creatures of action than reaction.

🙂 It is best to listen to all voices, like one’s guard dog personalities, but understand their strengths and weaknesses contextually. It’s also why I don’t fret when people from around the world lose their cool in the face of strategic or logistic long games. It takes teamwork to make the dream work, and some people can (poker reference) raise & call a heavy hand, and calmly lose a few hands, without giving away a tell. Your attacking a person’s pile of chips, not just their current hand.

We better be aware that the elites disagree about the Header of this article

Those elites pay Hospitals to kill people.

Bonanza in Covid Years

The hospital protocols that maximized reimbursement were also the ones that maximized mortality.

The purpose is to decrease the worlds Human population. Since I have been repeatedly stating that we are too many because the rest of the lifeforms are extinguished, while I am not involved in any such elite project I have likewise repeatedly stated that I suspect there is a higher power who causes this depopulation by tuning our minds to that effect.

Of course this also involves tuning our minds to the war mongering condition now ruling the west.

Thus the higher power may think it is a good thing to waste Europe.

The higher power has convenient helpers even among americans who seem to be admired by many like Ritter.

Brics Rising means what in terms of population growth?

Unless Chinas wisdom manages to reach agreements about population control then the west may have to be sacrificed to compensate growth elswhere.

Now is there any proof there is this kind of higher power? I dont think there is certain proof but I think it is worth considering as a possibility since it offers a convenient way for nature to regulate population by tuning our minds.

It also offers a solution in that we may decide to control population and simultaneously to make sure the rest of the biosphere is now considered a priority beyond what has been sofar the case. Experts like E O Wilson knew how far extinction had gone so it is no secret but most people neither know nor care.

Recently there was a report of Russian satellites surrounding a Ukrainian one. What could they be doing? Capturing signals to eventually redirect Ukrainian drones to bomb Vilnius instead of St. Petersburg? Who knows?          ….           Obviously my imagination is deficient.  But it is clear that an attack on Europe will not be like an attack would have been ten years ago.

I don’t think your imagination is deficient!

I’d be fascinated – and very grateful – if you could provide a brief tutorial on the orbital mechanics, propulsion systems, and energy source(s) that the Russians used to maneuver  their satellites to surround the Ukrainian satellite.

Thanks in anticipation!
