According to the journalist, the conversation focused on attacks against underground missile production facilities in the Islamic Republic.
NEW YORK, June 10 (TASS). US President Donald Trump recently inquired of his staff about the feasibility of using nuclear weapons against Iran, claims American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh in his blog on the Substack platform.
According to Hersh, the conversation in which the US President mentioned nuclear weapons took place this week and was attended by high-ranking US government officials.
The discussion centered on attacks against underground missile production facilities in Iran. During the talk, the US President asked about the “feasibility” of using nuclear weapons to destroy some of these facilities.
As Hersh notes, at least one of the meeting’s participants was shocked that the US President so casually raised the possibility of a nuclear war in the Middle East. Trump was reportedly agitated and angry during the conversation, appearing at that moment determined to “avoid defeat in Iran at all costs.”
Trump also floated the idea of warning the Iranian government that Washington was considering such an escalation “extremely seriously.” Apparently, according to the journalist, Trump was persuaded not to speak of a nuclear escalation.

Congress and MIC make money (short term) out of busted planes and spent Patriots. And even if not enough skilled US workers, Israelies will move factories, set up shop in America, and acquire American military tech. There’s thus less incentive (on both sides) to end war, and more quiet incentive for endless war, enriching friends & family. Look: it’s the Broken Window fallacy in economics. I hope Iran realizes that this phase is much more existential than the first phase of the war. It must escalate.
Strikes on a nightly basis, especially on this scale, cannot and must not be normalized. That’s a death sentence.

A lot of bullshit has been flying around for the last 100 days, like the “Israel will be destroyed in two weeks”or that Netanyahoo is dead fantasies. Meanwhile Iran’s supposed leverage in closing the Hormuz strait has turned against them, making their oil exports or import of critical supplies nonexistent. Slowly but surely the US has become the world’s top exporter of oil and gas by volume, because that’s what it was all about as Michael Hudson has been pointing out for months, it is all about the control of oil by the US. US has the escalation dominance and Iran’s response has gotten weaker and weaker, instead of making preemptive strikes on airbases that the US has announced will launch strikes from in advance, they rather lob a few drones and missiles back at the gulf states after absorbing dozens of tomahawks by their radars and air defense.

And Trump decides to confabulate in his brain literally, just make it up that, oh really they’ve agreed to give me all their nuclear materials and they’ve agreed to all these things they didn’t agree to. And the and so Trump blows it up. Trump says oh, all throughout this the Iranians are playing us. No, it’s Trump playing everybody. The Iranians have been straightforward through the whole negotiations. Everybody inside the White House knows the guy that’s that keeps tap dancing around this is Trump himself.
So then Iran was like, “Okay, we’ll reclose the Strait.” And since then, at least six times, that original deal has been put back into force with just Iran demanding a little more each time. Like, okay, if you’re going to breach it, then we’re going to have to demand you pay a higher price before any good conditions get met….
Trump hits the panic button and he sees all this criticism from the Israel lobby because he obsessively watches Fox News.
He hears it, you know, from the donor class and from senators like Wicker and Graham and all those lunatics who he likes to listen to for whatever reason. And he chickens out over and over again.
And people always assumed he would chicken out in favor of the markets. Instead, he doesn’t. He chickens out in favor of the Israel lobby. He’s so intimidated and afraid of criticism from that crowd that he decides to make what was likely an accident if it was anything. The idea that a drone attacked and was was targeting a helicopter that was flying however high in the sky and the only two people on board come out completely unscathed. Sorry, that doesn’t happen….
So he immediately goes back in and starts escalating again. And in the in his confabulated mind, when he emotionally decides for psychological reasons, he needs to do something that’s just plainly stupid. Keeps saying, “Every other president before me has been stupid.” But and that’s how Iran has played him.
No, every other president before Trump has not been as stupid as Trump. He’s going to go down as the dumbest president we’ve ever had in his second term as as well as the most corrupt in American political history, which is saying something uh in the recent era. Trump decides to go back in and reescalate, and he’s talking about doing it again today….. When you can’t do either one of those deals, you’re literally dealing capable….
That’s why Joe Kent, I and some others with friends and allies on the anti-war side in the administration have been advocating from day one, just get Trump to get out.
He’s never going to do a reasonable deal. He’s not capable of doing a reasonable deal because he is so fear riddled..
This is why I keep telling people he can’t make a good decisions. His decision-making process is completely broken. The Trump, anyone has known from any time before, is gone.
It’s just gone. And so he’s he thinks like a toddler, like it’s two-year-old level thinking. And the consequence of that is what he will do is he will convince himself that the bad thing can’t happen. So when he when he changes direction for emotional reasons, he then rationalizes his decision…

The world cowardliness is groundbreaking. The US shoots civilian ships and killed one Indian sailor. Why spend billions on defense when you are not defending yourself? They also see the illegal actions, targeting civilians, committing war crime. Whatever Iran does it’s not really working, there’s no sign the US has any intention of leaving the ME. I’m sure even when you ge hopeful information from negotiations that the US will accept this. The root of the problem is Iran and Iran is still there, so they better have that nuclear weapon ready by now.

Trump’s proclamation about secret oil transport has to be more price manipulation, imo, with things getting close to the big squeeze.
I only read the machine transcript of Barnes’ report, but I am curious whether ‘everyone’ in the white house/admin was against this as he said, or rather that everyone is now looking for a scapegoat, what with crude about to hit the fan, the most natural ass to pin the tail on being Trump’s (whose patent cognitive decline makes it that much easier).
This way, they can even try to sanitize his reputation by claiming ‘this isn’t even the real Trump that we all supported’. Best case scenario, it’s seen as just an unfortunate tragedy befalling these great men, and not at all a result of rampant corruption and being wildly out of touch with reality, like somehow dementia in one man absolves every adult listening to him of their complicity.

Check the weekly drawdown from the Strategic Oil Reserve for the US. It’s decreased from previous weeks. It is still going down but not as rapidly. So they are sneaking some oil through.
Also, the American economy is suffering but the Iranian economy has collapsed. While prices are higher for lower income Americans, the stock markets are soaring. Anyone with even a little invested in the markets is making a killing. This stalemate only benefits America. Low casualty rate so the people back home don’t complain, all the while slowly sucking the life out of Iran.

Sad to say but after decades of uniparty sanctions and sabotage the Iranians are mostly used to it. Check out Dimitri Lascaris on YouTube. Iran is not Cuba. And I trust this administration on SPR numbers during a catastrophic war of choice less than I trust their jury rigged jobs and inflation numbers.
The cliff is coming and there’s no way to sneak enough oil through the straight to make a difference. Production in the ME is way down and reserves everywhere are critically low. I’m making a polymarket bet today on $8 gas by August 1. If I lose it’s not a bad thing but I doubt I will.

The oil “getting through” does not reach all the way to the markets in a week or two or three … it’s mostly headed to Asia and it hasn’t even arrived yet. The only effect it would have in the drawdown would be a futures effect: less needed drawdown in anticipation of future. But that seems silly considering the recent restart of the war and attendant total shutdown.
Btw, the despairing and desperation of team Trump is palpable … even the Zio-shills here sound off their feed.

If this stalemate lasts through summer, we’ll know who has been telling the truth in regards to the Strategic Oil Reserve. Apparently, it doesn’t have to hit 0/empty for the US to be in trouble. There’s a certain minimum that must be maintained or the salt pits that hold the reserve will collapse. Once that minimum is reached, no more oil can be drawn.

A focus on oil is probably too narrow, there are lots of other products either not coming out of the Gulf at all, or at least in greatly-reduced quantities, with knock-on effects across all kinds of supply chains.
These effects have yet to fully play out. To look at just one, that of thermoplastics, oil-based but reliant on various other chemical inputs. It’s about this time of year that wholesale importers start to think about their stockpiles for the autumn and winter, things like Hallowe’en and Christmas goods and trinkets. Availability and pricing shocks are still to come.

Last month Naked Capitalism hosted an article by someone who knows the specifics of the salt storage caverns for the US’s SOR.
He wrote that every drawdown, not only excessive drawdowns, diminishes the life of the salt caverns. Not sure where we are now in terms of longevity but it appears that no concern is being expressed for the reserves being used wisely for the benefit of the people.
Once there is no reserve left the oil barons will dance with glee.
