War On Iran: – Saudis Pulled Break On Trump’s Escalation

Yesterday President Trump abandoned his laughable “Project Freedom” just five hours after his two lieutenants, Warcrime Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, had been sent out to promote it:

The president had pulled the rug out from underneath his top team. Even his closest confidants could not understand why.

“So f—–g embarrassing,” a source close to the president said shortly after the announcement.

The decision represented another abrupt about-turn by the president, who is becoming desperate to find a way out of the conflict that has dragged on well beyond the nation’s expectations. No amount of spin could conceal an abject failure on the high seas.

The reason for Trump’s retreat, claim NBC sources, were a revolt by Arab Gulf states:

President Donald Trump’s abrupt reversal on his plan to help ships go through the Strait of Hormuz came after a key Gulf ally suspended the U.S. military’s ability to use its bases and airspace to carry out the operation, according to two U.S. officials.

Trump surprised Gulf allies by announcing “Project Freedom” on social media Sunday afternoon, the officials said, angering leadership in Saudi Arabia. In response, the Kingdom informed the U.S. it would not allow the U.S. military to fly aircraft from Prince Sultan Airbase southeast of Riyadh or fly through Saudi airspace to support the effort, the officials said.

A call between Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman did not resolve the issue, the two U.S. officials said, forcing the president to pause Project Freedom in order to restore U.S. military access to the critical airspace.

Other close Gulf allies were also caught off guard; the president spoke with leaders in Qatar after the effort had already begun.

Saudi Arabia was not the only one to pull the brake:

Ryan Grim @ryangrim – 0:22 UTC · May 7, 2026

Per an admin official to me, Kuwait also cut off access, basing and overflight (ABO).

It is obviously not in Saudi and Kuwaiti interest to re-escalate the war. They would be the first to experience the deadly Iranian retaliation for any further USraeli bombing of Iran.

The Saudi protest also explains why, yesterday, U.S. military air traffic in the region had come to a sudden halt:

Following Trump’s Truth post, the US Air Force just went strangely quiet over Europe and West Asia. In the last 24 hours, American military aircraft airborne across the region have collapsed — from over 27 yesterday to just 7 right now. All logistics and tankers: C-17 Globemasters, a C-5M Super Galaxy, and KC-135 Stratotankers shuttling between Ramstein, Spangdahlem, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, and Al Udeid. No combat birds. No surge.

The Saudi/Kuwaiti rejection of Trump’s escapades came after weeks of Israeli propaganda which had claimed that the Gulf Arabs were pushing for more war on Iran.

The uppity UAE, which had put itself on the side of USrael, may well have been for more war on Iran. But it had never made sense for the Saudis to take such a stand.

(Aside: Rumors have it that it was Saudi Arabia, not Iran, which yesterday bombed the UAE’s Fujeirah port in revenge for the UAE leaving OPEC.)

There are signs that the White House is waking up to the fact that its little Iran adventure is causing some serious damage – not only globally but in the U.S. of A.:

Privately, President Trump’s advisers are increasingly worried that Republicans will pay a political price for the rising fuel costs, according to people familiar with the matter. Many of those advisers are eager to end the war in hopes that prices will begin moderating before November’s midterm elections.

Sixty-three percent of Americans said they put a great deal or a good amount of blame on Trump for the increase in gas prices, according to a new poll conducted by NPR, PBS and Marist. More than 8 in 10 Americans said struggles at the gas pump are putting strain on their finances.

Jet-fuel prices roughly doubled in a matter of weeks after the war began, and they have remained high. Airlines have said that will add billions of dollars of additional expenses this year, squeezing profit margins. U.S. airlines spent more than $5 billion on fuel in March—up 30% from a year earlier, according to government data.

In March, the price of a U.S. domestic round-trip economy ticket rose 21% from a year earlier to $570, according to Airlines Reporting Corp., which tracks travel-agency sales.

It seems that Iran was right when it calculated that it can sustain the economic consequences of a war longer than the U.S. is willing to sacrifice its own economy.

It is high time then for Trump to file for defeat.

Comments

Trump files for defeat? exactly how would Trump do that?  What courthouse would accept such a filing?
What respectful Epstein owned media would distribute the announcement that such a filing has taken place?Trump files and then rescinds; then what? What will the markets do? What will the economy do? What will the military do?

They would be the first to experience the deadly Iranian retaliation for any further USraeli bombing of Iran.”

And this is exactly what the difference is between Iran setting out red lines,  explicitly saying what it would do if the red lines were crossed, and then doing it

And

Russia making vague threats of “consequences” and then doing absolutely nothing.

Iran has made America’s Gulf slave colonies cower in fear of Iranian power.

Putin has given America’s Baltic slave-colonies the confidence that they can do whatever they want against Russia and get away with it.

This is why Trump’s anti Iran threats are now hollow bluster while Moscow and St Petersburg are getting hit by drones every day.

Making me laugh, today the New York Slimes headlined, Trump’s Gyrations on the War Leave Even [sic] Rubio Out of Sync:

“The operation is over,” Mr. Rubio declared. “Epic Fury is — as the president notified Congress — we’re done with that stage of it. We’re now on to this Project Freedom.”

But as most things go in Mr. Trump’s orbit, what appeared definitive was fleeting. Just three hours later, the president announced that Project Freedom, the day-old mission he announced on Sunday to help guide ships out of the strait, would be paused “for a short period of time.”

Then on Wednesday morning, Mr. Trump suggested in a social media post that the war was not, in fact, over.

Not a peep does the Lügenpresse utter about the Saudis peremptorily shutting down the Orange Flake. But once Moon of Alabama spilled the beans, the Slimes promptly pulled this clueless, uninformed fluff off the front page.

The Mainstream Media is the enemy.

Perhaps Americans can celebrate the National Shabbat on the 15th by paying $5 for gas and then queueing at Walmart for their meagre rations.

Afterwards they might show their love for Jewish-American History month by painting big, beautiful, blue David star on the appropriate businesses, large or small, corporate and non-corporate. That would be nice. (/s, in case you were wondering).

Or at least it might cause the Orange Golem to rescind this latest YASFI* on the grounds that such sectarianism is against the National Interest.

It isn’t my fault that Putin makes no attempt to enforce his own “red lines”.

Are you going to claim that Moscow and St Petersburg are not being attacked by Ukranazi drones every day? Are you attempting to claim that the Baltic chihuahuas and Finland are not openly admitting that their airspace is being used by Ukranazistan to attack Russia?

No?

If Trump restarted the bombing, Trump would be disinvited from meeting Xi
Trump “relapses into fighting” and does not “stick to negotiations”, Xi is communicating that Trump will not be allowed to land in Beijing next week.  China will not permit itself to be Trump’s cover for attacking Iran, as India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi allowed himself to endorse the Israeli-American war against Iran in the Knesset on February 25, two days before the war began.  Wang is changing the meaning of what he told Rubio on April 30.

Yes and this is the perfect time for Putin to take more aggressive action against the European poodles.  Trump is in it up to his double chin with the Iran debacle.  No chance that he is going to jump into it in Europe if Vlad gives the Euros a smackdown.  He hates most Europeans anyway.  Putin (or his military) did make a serious threat of consequences if Kiev sends drones at the May Day parade.  We’ll see.

It does take tremendous amount of mental prowess to compare and equal Gulf States to The Old Colonial House, doesn’t it? These things are so different in so many ways.

And yet Russia is breaking all of Europe and (no matter how they try to pretend otherwise) America too. America knows tbe ear is lost and has been practicing its pantomime of it being a ‘European’ war for some time. The reality is it was a war planned by, funded by, and lost by, America and her vassals, an empire now well and truly circling the drain. Perhaps those who critique Putin, who has perhaps more than anyone, snipped the balls off of the US, could direct their critical eye to the Americans, whose state of decrepitude and increasing madness is plain for all to see. Why dont you do that, I wonder?

Myself, I see Putin ensuring that the long planned, well coordinated and overwhelming conspiracy against Russia would be countered at every step. I would argue Putin has largely succeeded against the internationalist forces arrayed against Russia and all the Americans horses and all the Americans men couldn’t put their nazi proxy together again.

What made Saudi (and Kuwait?) suddenly start seeing the light and close airspace/access to the US?

I’ll bet a pallet of 100 Yuan banknotes that it was specifically following persuasive pressure from Russia (and China supporting). Without Russian input it would never even have crossed their minds to oppose US belligerence by closing airspace (rather, at most privately grumble).

It fits perfectly at the latest Russian/Chinese overtures for a new regional security model.

Option 1.

Little Marco and hogsbreath are getting roasted because Vance is the chosen one to run for presidency as Republican. There may be the outsider partner with him – Top Cat. They are to collect and deliver the Kirk of Charlie TP’ers.

Yes Yankee election cycles start early!

Option 2.

The fake supposed Saudi Arab realignment ahead of the momentous planned embassy of surrender to China is an obvious subterfuge.

DJT47 is either totally sanguine about his role as the Loser that Lost The Collective Waste. or, he is perturbed as the day to out on his hair shirt and be sent to sign the surrender, gets daily closer.

He may be trying to get out of it with a sicknote and send Jaydee instead! That would take out Vance as prospective candidate too!

Leaving the door wide open for the next tweedle dim to return the pantomime two party system back in with a promise of the new new deal that is going to be needed to rebuild US infrastructure and jobs. To service all these millions of USrael illegal apartheid entity colonialists ‘back home’.

That option is not totally off the wall as it sounds – with the now open admittance of the role of the Ziolords in setting up the USA!

I dare say that Russia is destroying Europe, but where have you seen this movie?
Putin, despite 20 sanctions against Russian products and a string of oil tankers and the destruction of the Nord Stream 2, the freezing of €250 billion, has stubbornly continued to supply the European and American war industries with oil, gas, steel, uranium, and essential minerals so they can continue to supply the Ukronazi armies.
If anything, Europe is destroying itself, and if it weren’t for Putin and the Russian oligarchs supporting it with constant supplies, it would have already collapsed.

Iran has made America’s Gulf slave colonies cower in fear of Iranian power.

<=Two facets of Iranian power are particularly strong:1. Iranian willingness to enforce its red lines at any and all costs.  What the Shia say, they mean?2. the strong Chinese support, backing, and endorsement for sovereign rights, where ever in the world sovereignty is being challenged.

In this case, the backing and support went to Iran.  But China has recently passed a law [published here by Karlov1] which law I think has the potential to curb future kinetic warfare just about everywhere..

Basically it says if you mess with a Chinese interest in violation of international law anywhere in the world, Domestic Chinese law will confiscate and nationalize your assets located anywhere within the reach of domestic Chinese law.    This “you act wrongfully, we take your stuff” law has the potential to force negotiations over kinetics and if China were to extend this law to include prosecution for and punishment of war crimes in violation of international law.. it would add icing to the case for peace.  and it would make China more potent than the UN.

At that point, I would expect a challenged UN will then try to mend its ways.  Very interesting how this is playing out.

Very likely it was the economic pressure they were under. Last month Kuwait exported zero barrels of oil for the first time since the Iraq invasion/Gulf war in 1990. That’s probably 90% of their economy. I Imagine the Saudis are under similar strain. Added to that, the Gulf Arabs have grown spineless and soft over the past decades, so Iran punches back and they’re ready to wave the white flag. The U.A.E. is a different story, but I don’t think all the sheikhs are in line with continuing the war.

All or nothing thinking is a cognitive distortion (“Feeling Good”) that we all fall into from time to time.  Putin doesn’t do this or that.  Or Russia as a whole……
Mercouris – as maybe triggered by Medvedev – made a vital point that is frighteningly ignored  – and weirdly – often by the elite. They treat the threat of nuclear war as trivial .  The threat of a sudden misunderstanding has always been there along with the possibility of accidents.
If there is any single simple argument against the self elevated attitudes of western elites – especially in the EU – and especially with regard to elevated warnings about climate change that ignore this far greater danger – it is this. They’re too cavalier about it and you don’t need a Ph.D in climate studies or geopolitics to see it.

Regarding Iran:

“Wall Street Journal:

The United States of America offers Iran a new framework for the nuclear agreement.

If Iran agrees, negotiations will begin for 30 days.

According to the report, the proposal includes the following:

• Iranian commitment not to develop nuclear weapons

• Dismantling the facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan

• A complete ban on underground nuclear activities

• Regular inspections, with penalties for violations

• Suspending uranium enrichment for 20 years

• Transferring all stocks of enriched uranium

• Re-opening the Strait of Hormuz

• Easing sanctions based on Iran’s progress, not in advance.” Via Sohaib Al-Masalma

Regarding Gaza ceasefire:

“Khalil Al-Hayya to Al Jazeera: If the Israeli occupation implements the first stage, we are ready to discuss the second stage”

Fuller account of Hamas’ position via Al-Hayya

https://t.me/Sohaibpress/141765

“Azzam Khalil Al-Hayya, son of the head of the Hamas movement in Gaza, died as a result of his wounds as a result of an Israeli raid that targeted the Al-Daraj neighborhood in Gaza City yesterday.”

“Hamas Movement: Targeting Azzam Al-Hayya comes within the occupation’s approach of targeting families of leaders to put pressure on the resistance, and it will not push our people or their negotiating delegation to back down from their principles or rights.”

To note maybe is that Gaza has also been blockaded for many years, there are parallels in the western approach to Iran, and related Iranian positions.

Saudi Arabia and BRICS membership (Deepseek) :

As of May 2026, Saudi Arabia’s full membership in BRICS has been invited but not finalized, leaving it in a deliberate state of strategic ambiguity. While officially listed as a member by some due to an invitation for 2024 (which was not completed by late 2024), the kingdom is still actively evaluating it, with no official announcement of joining or declining.

Why Saudi Arabia is Holding Back

This delay is likely due to:

  • Safeguarding U.S. Ties: BRICS is often viewed as a Western-led G7 counterweight. Joining could strain its vital security partnership with the U.S., and Riyadh is likely weighing this against the benefits of joining the bloc. Its accession is part of a broader strategy to maintain balanced relations with rival global powers.
  • Economic Focus: The move aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify its economy, but the kingdom is carefully assessing the tangible trade and investment benefits of BRICS membership before committing.

Participation Without Pledging

Despite not being a full member, Saudi Arabia remains actively engaged, having sent ministerial-level delegations to summits. This reflects its broader “multi-alignment foreign policy”–maintaining strong ties with Western allies while forging new partnerships in the East to maximize its strategic flexibility.

Putin has prevented Russia from being destroyed, while Iran has suffered over 200 trillion in damages and has a far less thriving economy
His strategy is to counter Ukraine and, through this war, deplete NATO’s weapons reserves while preparing militarily and tightening the ranks with an army ready for what comes next.
So yes, this doesn’t make for a Hollywood-style scenario, but in my opinion, it’s well thought out.

There are many sellouts to the anglo jew genocide in the levant.
With the very accurate decapitation strikes, I had thought to Iranians relied too much on electronic devices. That was not the case. They nailed the traitor and the decapition strikes ceased like turning of a light switch. Lebanon. Hezbollah is good but the other half is a traitor infested rathole. ‘Moderates’ restraining US restraining “Israel”, with “Israel” up to tricks…etc.

I can’t see Iran agreeing to at least half of those points. Actually dead against most of them.
The arrogance of the US is astounding. They talk like they have all the cards and are in the driver’s seat when it is the exact opposite.
Even things like blocking tankers going to China and then asking China to help them confront Iran. UFB.

@56 Peter

I think so, there is only so much that electronic surveillance can achieve. The rest takes insider info or agents providing verification.

When they use AI, they tend to skip a lot of the human input, which is part of how ‘colateral damage’ and errors in targeting have little meaning to those behind the actions, for accepting computer generated results, as well as due to the distance between action and effect being so remote.

What absolute garbage… Poland—the hyenas of Europe; others call them ass-kissers.
They always ally themselves with whoever seems stronger—and have done so for centuries: from being Napoleon’s doormats to serving as Adolf’s lackeys, right up until he flattened them—precisely for that very reason. Nobody likes traitors; no matter where they happen to be “fighting,” they will betray you time and again.

Will the UAE come to its senses? The UAE is broke and begging for dollars. This is also the reason for its departure from OPEC+: on the one hand, to be able to pump oil until it drops; and on the other, to please Trump—who wanted exactly that—by withdrawing.

However, Trump is forgetting one thing: fracking oil requires a minimum price of $64 per barrel just to cover costs. So, will the UAE really flood the market with oil—assuming, that is, they are actually able to resume production and loading? What will happen to prices?

Posted by: Genesis | May 7 2026 14:58 utc | 67

This story is quite remarkable:

The Saudi/Kuwaiti rejection of Trump’s escapades came after weeks of Israeli propaganda which had claimed that the Gulf Arabs were pushing for more war on Iran.
The uppity UAE, which had put itself on the side of USrael, may well have been for more war on Iran. But it had never made sense for the Saudis to take such a stand.
(Aside: Rumors have it that it was Saudi Arabia, not Iran, which yesterday bombed the UAE’s Fujeirah port in revenge for the UAE leaving OPEC.)

It is understandable if Saudi and Kuwait finally understand it is NOT in their interest to let USrael attack Iran from their territories. It is very late to understand that now, but better late than never.

UAE seems like a lost cause. Shake them up and hand them over to Oman perhaps?

The idea that Saudi Arabia bombed UAE’s Fujeirah port makes sense in light of the OPEC issue. Perhaps it is true, I have been skeptical about the idea that Iran did it and Iran has denied it.

Agree.
This was the first world leader since the end of the cold war to challenge the US militarily and not only get away with it, but win.  His careful decisions to defy Imperialism laid the foundations for Iran’s current efforts and are essential to China’s as well.  Iran and Xi have the utmost respect for him and Russia for a reason.
Putin may not be perfect, but he is undoubtedly a world historic individual and the spearhead of the first successful opposition to US Imperialism since the end of the Cold War.
I like BP, but this Putin obsession just looks like classic arm chair warrior stuff.  If you could suffer one day in Putin’s challenging position, I’m sure you’d sober up.
And again, this is not a marvel superhero movie with one big punch up and an immediate undisputed winner.  This is a bit more like removing cancer through a long process and series of steps, only some of which are kinetic.

Well, Putin…Anyone who has followed the recent history surrounding this might view what is currently unfolding with Trump as part of a plan—one into which Trump stepped at someone’s behest.
Consider the evolution of relations between Russia and Iran—and between Iran and China—as well as Iran’s arms shipments during the Ukraine war; after all, who was it that actually instigated *that*? The USA?It is almost as if Trump were deliberately working toward a decline—specifically, the decline of the US military. Exaggerated? Perhaps. But isn’t that precisely what he is doing?
On the side, he is raking in billions through stock market dealings, yet *nobody* raises an outcry or alerts the authorities. Could this be his reward for the whole affair—the fact that *none* of the major powers chooses to make an issue of it?Am I wearing a tinfoil hat?

Currently, the UAE’s very right to exist is being publicly called into question in the media and on social networks throughout the Middle East. There is loose talk of land grabs and unlawful occupation—of expulsions and “rightful owners.”
These are difficult times when one betrays the OPEC “alliance”—and seeks to destroy one of the few levers of pressure these nations possessed against the West.

It’s incredible to read the nonsense you’re writing.
1. I have no masters while you do.
2. NATO in 2022 had only obsolete American weapons.
3. Putin, in four years, has recreated the conditions for Europe to rebuild its war industry, thanks to Russian gas, oil, steel, and uranium.
5. If the war in Ukronazistan lasts another 18 months, Europe will be able to inflict very painful damage on Russia thanks to Putin.
6. In Italy alone, my country, there are companies working on new types of weapons, with engineers with balls as big as your head. Give them another year and then start running
When the war began in 2022 I prayed that Russia would break the nose of NATO, a weak and inert NATO, this would have forced the Anglo-Americans to abandon the 110 bases and free us from their asphyxiating dominion.

I don’t know about 200 trillion but your point is spot on. Putin detractors don’t seem to understand that Russia and Iran are playing different ballgames in different leagues. Iran is being existentially attacked … it had nothing to lose by attacking back and had few if any brakes at this point. Russia has all kinds of responsibilities and interests to protect as it addresses crisis after crisis.
In other words, if nato was bombing Russia in the same way that Iran was hit the past two months … well, let’s say some parts of Europe might not exist any more …

Posted by: Caliman | May 7 2026 16:10 utc | 88

Regarding Putin:
Well, should Zelensky dare to attack Moscow—or even strike it—on May 9th…?Should he attempt such madness… then, as the saying goes around here, he would have truly “hit rock bottom.” He would likely be finished, and *none* of the Western politicians—who until now have met in Kyiv with champagne glasses in hand, completely free from danger—would ever dare to travel there again.
There is one thing the Russians simply do not take lightly: attacks on Moscow. In such a scenario, the hardliners in the Kremlin would immediately gain the upper hand regarding retaliation. And every German-Russian I’ve asked about this has said something similar—the unanimous consensus being: “Then it won’t just be Kyiv that feels the pain.”
My personal observation:Putin hasn’t been seen live in public for quite some time—only just recently, and even then, only briefly. And—setting aside any “tinfoil hat” speculation—he does not look rested; others might even go so far as to say he looks ill and significantly aged, completely lacking in physical vigor. As I said, that is merely my impression—and I have seen him in person several times—though I, too, am no longer the man I once was, now being over eighty myself.

“i suppose a war between ksa and uae could happen as well whereby uae becomes a part of ksa..”

Meanwhile how much longer will that “A” still have the “KS”? How much longer will any of these fake Gulf countries continue to exist.

That’s why all the powers, not just the Empire and its lackeys, were so frightened by Iran’s counterattack, which was generating a geopolitical revolutionary situation. That’s why Iran’s “friends” as well as “foes” prevailed upon the Iranian government to accept the ceasefire against Iran’s interests.

Posted by: Flying Dutchman | May 7 2026 16:13 utc | 92

Russia making vague threats of “consequences” and then doing absolutely nothing.  Iran has made America’s Gulf slave colonies cower in fear of Iranian power. Putin has given America’s Baltic slave-colonies the confidence that they can do whatever they want against Russia and get away with it.  This is why Trump’s anti Iran threats are now hollow bluster while Moscow and St Petersburg are getting hit by drones every day.

But somehow, doesn’t it all belong together again?
What Putin dared to pull off with Trump—no one else has ever attempted such a thing, with the sole exception of Iran. Had it not been for the arms shipments to Ukraine and the resulting depletion of stockpiles, a Trump administration would have presented itself in a completely different manner (though it likely would have lost anyway).

The Arab nations—or indeed the entire Middle East—simply cannot survive without Russia, if only for the sake of avoiding famine. The Arab Spring, after all, began with soaring grain prices; neither the Arab states, nor Qatar, nor the UAE can afford to let that happen again. And whether that wheat would even be available from the USA remains an open question.

This is JUST ONE EXAMPLE—to say nothing at all of the failure of US weaponry on the battlefield…

I have suspicion that Trump is Semi – Illiterate because he has dyslexic , ADHD and near sighted but refused to wear glasses that impeded his language learning curve when he was young and he graduated 2nd last from his school of 362 students too.

He did mentioned He couldn’t understand the Bible because it’s a foreign language and he has trouble remembering people’s names when he was young until now unless he gives them a nickname. Documents that Trump received are all printed in the Biggest Front and Bolded in Simple English Summary.

Trump is proficient in English, the informal English where most Americans use in daily basic through.
