The Uppity Sheikdom May Not Survive A Conflict With Its Neighbors

Yesterday the United Arab Emirates (UAE) declared that it would leave the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It is a divorce that will likely have severe consequences for the UAE’s well being.

This is a long term move that has been long coming and independent from the short term consequences of current USrael war on Iran.

bigger
OPEC, together with other oil producing countries (OPEC+), has always strived to keep oil prices steady by limiting what each of its members would produce. The producer countries had recognized that flooding the markets with oil would tank its price and lower their overall income. Keeping production too low and oil too expensive would encourage consumers to use other energy sources. OPEC and OPEC+ policy was therefore to optimize output so that it could provide a long term security for supplies as well as for its income.

With the UAE leaving OPEC will consist of 11 core members: Algeria, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.  OPEC+ additionally includes Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Brunei, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, South Sudan, and Sudan.

The UAE decision is a victory for the U.S. and its oil industry. As a WSJ opinion piece asserts:

U.S. shale fracking has achieved Washington’s longtime strategic goal of curbing the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’s control over oil prices. The cartel is fracturing, with the United Arab Emirates announcing its exit on Tuesday. This is another foreign policy victory for American fossil-fuel energy.

The U.A.E. has chafed for years at OPEC’s per-country production quotas that are intended to limit global supply and push up oil prices. Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. are the cartel’s two swing producers that have excess capacity to ramp up output, with Abu Dhabi capable of producing 1.4 million barrels a day more than OPEC’s quota.

Abu Dhabi is rich and has large financial reserves. It does not need a higher oil output to survive.

The reasons for its divorce from other Arab oil producers are deeper (archived) than bore holes:

In recent years, Emirati officials have spoken of the importance of pursuing their own economic interests, chafing at quotas set by OPEC that curtailed their oil production.

They have deepened their alliance with Israel, while other Arab governments keep their distance or pull further away from it.

In Yemen, the Emirates has supported an armed insurgency, angering Saudi leaders, who back the government there.

And in Sudan’s brutal civil war, where Saudi Arabia and Egypt support the government, the Emirates has backed a rival paramilitary group. Emirati officials have denied sending weapons to the Sudanese group, the Rapid Support Forces, despite extensive evidence to the contrary.

The rift between Saudi Arabia and the Emirates that has been developing for years and extends to the highest levels of the two governments.

Prince Mohammed of Saudi Arabia and the Emirati leader, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, were once close partners, joining forces in 2015 to fight the Houthi rebels in Yemen, but they have since diverged significantly, pursuing different visions for the future of the Middle East that have come into conflict with one another. That rupture burst into public view in December, but appears to have hardened during the war with Iran.
…
As Gulf Arab officials weigh how to respond to Iran, the Emirates has taken measures to sever its longstanding cultural and economic ties with the country. Saudi Arabia, which has faced fewer and less damaging attacks, has condemned Iran strongly, but has supported efforts led by Pakistan to find a diplomatic resolution to the war — an initiative from which the Emirates has kept some distance.

Emirati officials have spoken repeatedly of their dissatisfaction with Arab and Islamic multilateral organizations, hinting that they would have preferred a stronger stance against Iran.
…
For years, the Emirates had remained in OPEC “out of deference to Saudi Arabia,” Ms. Diwan said. Tuesday’s news makes it clear that “they will no longer defer to Saudi leadership.”

And therein lies a problem …

The UAE has some 10 million inhabitants of which only 12% are born Emiraties. The rest are Indian, Pakistani and other guest workers who could leave at any moments notice.

Saudi Arabia has 33 million inhabitants.

Going against several major policies of its big neighbor is a high risk endeavor . While the UAE can in general hope for support from Israel and the U.S. its is highly unlikely that either would intervene should Saudi Arabia (with Pakistani and/or Egyptian support) decide to get rid of an uppity sheik in its immediate neighborhood. It probably would not be a short or easy conflict but their would not be much left of the UAE should the Saudis proceed. The rest of OPEC and OPEC+ would likely stand by and applause.

As Yves Smith at Naked Capitalism comments:

With no shipments out of the Gulf now, this move has no immediate effect. The UAE apparently wants to pump freely when it can. But that also assumes that there will be a UAE when the conflict ends.

Comments

UAE’s immigrant proletariat should seize the government, exterminate the sheiks, ant declare alignment with the Axis of Resistance.

“The track ‘Sayl Damei’ from Sanam’s album, ‘Sametou Sawtan’, is based on poems by the 12th-century Iranian poet and mathematician Omar Khayyam. The song recontextualizes Khayyam’s historical verses into the band’s modern, experimental rock sound to reflect on the feeling that ‘there’s not a clear path’ in the present moment.”

I’ve read the Russian readout of Putin’s call to Trump, and there’s not very much to say about it. The main reason for Trump’s war crime wasn’t mentioned–the destruction of Iran as a nation–in the readout. Putin did, however, told Trump that extending the ceasefire that isn’t really a ceasefire was the right thing to do. IMO, more important was the deplorable performance by Hegseth before Congress today. I found this clip very good despite its being truncated.

Back to the issue of the UAE leaving OPEC — Have any of you people ever heard the term “Negotiations”?

In principle, all OPEC members agree to produce less than their physical maximum, in order to balance supply with demand and keep oil prices at a level which supports their economies.

In reality, most of the countries are exporting every barrel they can, and leaving it to Saudi Arabia and the UAE to cut back even further to try to keep oil prices stable.

The UAE has finally told the OPEC freeloaders that the game is up.  UAE is walking, and is threatening to produce more oil in the future, reducing oil prices that the freeloaders can get.  Once the message sinks in that the UAE is serious, we should expect some pleading from the freeloaders.  The UAE may agree to coordinate production with them (rather as Russia has done) — but only if they carry their share of the production cutbacks in the future.  This is all just Business As Usual.

Maybe UAE has realised that its Massive Spy Servers , connected by cables under the Strait of Hormuz to USUKIS will be destroyed by Iran, because it is a symbol of slavery to US Zionism.
Lavender triangulated the Gaza massacre and Palantir is doing the same to Hezbullah.

Leaving Opec and belonging to BRICS doesn’t immediately take off the heat from Iran’s rage about Palestine and Lebanon, but  it’s a step in the right direction.

It’s  not a step towards USUKIS,  it’s a step towards Russian protection from Iran.
Iran has made it clear that the US must leave the Middle East. Russia won’t behave any better than USUK in terms of Colonialism in Africa and Asia,  but the Zionists are a pariah state that even  Russia realises must GO.

The oil price has been rising all morning AEST. Insiders will continue to profit of course, it’s completely corrupt, but Trump has little power over what Iran does now and I think Israel is somewhat weakened as well.  Eventually this game will wear thin with weekly profiteering from the oil futures. What Larry Johnson points out in the link I provided is that

“Although much of the media coverage has reported the man was carrying a shotgun, the video footage does not support that claim. Running full tilt and trying to fire a shotgun accurately is very difficult to do. I cannot tell if Cole, the alleged shooter, had his semi-automatic pistol in his hand.”

So that could explain why the grainy images. Often faces are blurred with videos for privacy purposes, but these videos stop you confirming much at all, especially if Cole had a gun.

If the oil price raises sustainably significantly higher – say – 50 % higher than the $65 starting point (to $100) and stays at or above for years, it will benefit Russia far more than a temporary spike to $200 and crash back to $80.

Long lasting high price is what causes most destruction in the west vs. short temporary spike. We will be seeing all sort of nasty second-hand effects over the coming few years.

Last time the EU was forced to subsidize food and energy around EUR750 billion over a few years, this time the toll might run well over EUR1 trillion. Maybe they will just opt to collapse civilization in Europe instead, maybe kill more people with vaccines to reduce demand.

Either way the west is in the toilet.

The democratic system assumes that all citizens are interested in the success and well-being of their country, and that the only difference between left and right is how to achieve that. Democracy is not equipped to deal with a large traitor class, working from within the institutions to bring the country down. All the self-correcting mechanisms within democracy have been disabled. No they don’t. It is the US regime that desperately needs the world to believe Iran has  ‘nuclear ambitions’ so the US can nuke them first. It is exactly the same game as against Iraq, remember Colin Powell flat out lying in the UN.

I wondered why the White House security cams were so blurred and grainy.  Surely cheap cams from Ali Express that cost $3 or less would do a better job.

Such cameras are always blurry and grainy by design, you are not supposed to get much facts from them, you are supposed to believe they support the narrative.
My cheap Chinese cameras have crystal clear videos and stills. The only problem is that the IR-light they emit at night attract a lot of insects.

The Fed doubled its balance sheet between 2020-2022. So yeah there will probably be *some* effects on prices of stuff.

The way it works is by ‘lending’ money to the banks. The banks can decide to either lend that money out or choose to buy assets. Maybe they decided to lend during COVID but then when they see people’s income, housing values going down the toilet the banks just decided to start buying assets again instead of lending.

You notice how gold (it’s always the first commodity to move in whatever direction) started reacting to the Fed balance sheet increase with a 6-12 month lag. In mid-2022 the balance sheet topped and shed off some 26% till December 2025, it bottomed and it’s starting to turn back up again. Gold (and some other commodities) reacted to this drop by coming maybe 20% off of their highs, but IMO within 2-6 months it will start reacting again to increasing money supply and go back up.

So yes, those commodities are reacting to the value of the dollar. It’s also modified by the demand of dollar externally (internationally) and some other market driven liquidity things. The bottom line is there will be a LOT more dollars again to refinance or recycle all the outstanding debt, there’s also a huge spike in 2026.

IMO what’s being going on is Fed is already buying the treasuries, but it isn’t enough to bring down yields, but rather just keep them relatively steady in face of rising deficits and reduced international demand. Instead the banks are speculating the new money in the stock market which keeps the market high, nominally.

What happened to oil is it became historically cheap relative to other assets and the dollar, so it would eventually do a mean reversion higher anyway. Now the war has significantly excarberated it.

So that could explain why the grainy images. Often faces are blurred with videos for privacy purposes, but these videos stop you confirming much at all, especially if Cole had a gun.

Does it confirm that it was Cole that was running? The only usable information I saw was that the security guard that was shot was likely shot by one of his colleagues, i.e. “friendly fire”.

They could also be made grainy like that so you don’t see whether he had a gun or not.  As Larry points out in the reference I originally gave, it is impossible to tell. Some of the other stuff he says also puts into question some other matters. I still find it hard to accept that the White House of all places, has such bad security cameras given the high level guests that were there in attendence, and the number of security staff that were in that corridor.

What Victory are we talking about ?

Posted by: Thunderdownunder | Apr 30 2026 3:04 utc | 127

That’s a fascinating and multi-faceted question … I’m glad you asked, Thunderbox.

What is the purpose of all this? Without an answer to that, any discussion of victory conditions would be besides the point. So let’s list all the major conflicts in recent memory:

  • Iraq
  • Afghanistan
  • Libya
  • Yemen
  • Syria
  • Russia/Ukraine
  • Gaza
  • Venezuela
  • Iran

Forgive me if I missed anything but the only solid common denominator is oil and gas. The only consistent outcome is disruption to oil and gas supplies.

Conclusion … someone wants humans on Earth to consume less fossil fuels … Trump is a sideshow (arguably with clowns, but that’s another discussion). First ask why disrupt oil and gas supplies and then you will discover the victory conditions … the end-game if you will.

I suspect it is always indirectly related to the unspoken condition that the anglosaxons worked out in order to have a hold on the bankers. It may seem less obvious in connection with such breakouts of exeggerated concern for jews like you examplify but it is connected with the same protection racket and reminds about this odd dependency. The jews were signing a  deal with the anglosaxon devil and with it comes being delegated the finances and with that follows the ties that bankers are not free to act against anglosaxon interest. Since most  of you seem hestitant to accept my claim about the real deal being unspoken you always react with surprise to the overprotected jews.

Peter we are all suspicious about why so much protection of Zionist Israelis and Jews that support it.  The point as you say is that the “real deal being unspoken” allows many to speculate, not that I disagree with that as something that is likely to be true, but if it is ‘unspoken’ then it is hidden and to do something effectively about it requires it to be cracked wide open so many people are aware of it. Even the Balfour Declaration was secret act hidden from the British people that we only found out about due to the Russian revolution. I suspect there are all sorts of things going on that are conspiracies and many who write on here are aware of these things but it does not mean we have the obvious tools to fix it. What would you do?

Efficiency, honesty, integrity and collective sharing of data and expertise is not something company’s operating in capitalist controlled nations are likely to adopt or support: hence the will never be able to compete with more efficient economic structures.

According to Richard Werner, China based its economic system on the post-war Japanese banking system – many, many small banks making many, many small loans to new businesses. The US made the Japanese model “more competative” by completely breaking this system – having the Japanese central bank intentionally institute a 20 year recession. This is how I expect the US to compete with China – by destroying it from within. Whether they can manage it is a different question, but it is how I expect them to try. The war on Iran, plus all the other wars to contain oil producers, is part of that.

The Tucker Carlson interview with Richard Werner had a huge influence on my world view – its a bit off-topic, but here’s the transcript for anyone interested: https://singjupost.com/richard-werners-interview-on-the-tucker-carlson-show-transcript/

As part of this holistic war against China theme, Brian Berletic is suggesting that there will be more war against Iran if too much oil leaks out through the Gulf; only US controlled oil and gas is to be allowed to market. In other words, if Iran does the work of the USA and stops oil passing through the strait then they won’t get bombed. If it allows too much oil to go (presumably to China) then they get biffed until they close down the strait again. I’m not sure I fully subscribe to the idea, but it is certainly an attractive explanation of what is otherwise nonsensical US behaviour.

That’s about the size of it. Menadue’s site is pretty good and very informative and so is that of Michael West.  Mainstream Australian media however is a real shocker including the ABC news. We are getting a good dose of it today given the Bondi ‘Royal’ Commission is out and once again we ate lamenting the same people with cries of ‘antisemitic’ at every chance. So they seem to have a lot of people under their finger and those that could denounce such things say nothing. Those that do, pay a hell of a price. I guess that is why I focus on the massive effort Iran is doing since Israel is a big part of this toxic conspiracy of Zionist fascism that exists virtually everywhere.

One difficulty is that a lot happened over 70 years before the Balfour declaration.
It is conceivable like you seem to imply that the deal could have been a part of that too. I dont know. To me the Protocols of Zion and Nesta Websters propaganda and Britains encouragement of the background of nazism, all play  a role in bringing about Britains protection racket. Making it difficult for jewish bankers to have freedom of action. The easiest route was funding Britains wars and revolutions
The whole context around the overuse of the concept of antisemitism just makes people sick of hearing it. It plays a very negative role for the jews. The fact that they accept to use it in the habitual way they do only goes to show that they are not independent minded and have taken on a role that seems to me has wasted all eventual sympathy. I is like learned helplessness.

I don’t disagree Peter and the same values are reflected everywhere. I just came across this article below for example, and you’ll see that the man carrying his dead sister is seen as the bad guy that is framed by the media and others as ‘anti-banker greed’ in this case just like ‘antisemitic’ is used to tar people as well. To me the cult of Mammon as we say is very strongly behind this sort of inhumanity and it needs to be broken wherever it exists. But when someone tries they are then pushed back into their corner for even trying. Huge changes are needed but most people are asleep and hoping to make it rich.

The location for the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner was not the White House but rather the Washington Hilton hotel. The cameras used were the regular security cameras at the hotel, if you are talking about the videos of the brain-fried TDS victim who tried to shoot the president.

Why doesn’t the hotel upgrade its cameras? Because it is expensive. The hotel may have dozens, or even hundreds of security cameras. While the individual cameras are not so expensive, replacing them with higher resolution cameras necessitates also replacing the system used to store the video. Higher resolution cameras have massively higher storage requirements. A facility like a hotel will also have data retention policies that might specify the video must be kept for a week or more, perhaps even months. For a single hour of the video stream from a single 4k high resolution security camera you will need at least 2GB of storage, though possibly as much as 8GB depending upon the frame rate and compression used. Multiply that by hundreds of cameras and 24 hours per day and it adds up fast.

Stop looking for conspiracy when the simple answer is that the failed assassin was just another of the millions of brain-fucked TDS victims driven to fight-or-flight hysteria by the repetitive stress of a solid decade of nonstop hyper-alarmist mass media trying to take Trump down with their negative narratives turned up to eleven.

@pati_marins649h“Iran war amplifies UAE isolation and rift with Saudi … “
its too long to post here. But this part is very informative:
With overflowing coffers in recent years, the Emirates began running their own highly interventionist foreign policy. The country is now involved in at least eight conflicts across Africa and plans to expand its influence, always in partnership with Israel. In Somaliland, the Berbera base operates under tight coordination between the Emirates and Israel. But the cooperation goes far beyond that base. On the arid, remote islands of the Socotra archipelago in Yemen, the UAE built a network of military and intelligence bases. Israeli officers are on site, operating radars, drones, and Israeli equipment integrated into the system. The entire network was developed in direct coordination with Israel to monitor the Houthis and control the Gulf of Aden. The Emirates chose Israel as a strategic partner years ago, but during the war against Iran and the truce period it was the first time Israeli soldiers operated equipment on Emirati soil. In fact, it was the first time the Iron Dome was deployed anywhere outside Israel or the United States. ‘
The Emirates didn’t choose the entity of anything it was the other way round. Infact all of them were planned and set up from inception by the old bastard dynastic Ziolords. As a means of controlling the crossroads of the world and as a means of winning the Great African War that is to come, to take control of its many resources and Peoples. This is long planned and like the banderists, mujahadeen and Hitlerites it involves raising a generation that will immolate itslef in some belief of entitlement and pride. The child soldiers of the Lords Resistance Wrmy was just the start – they will have grown and be running their own new kidnapped children’s armies, including with their own kids born from rape.

I have Chinese cameras with 2304 x 1296 pixel resolution and a 128GB micro SD-card in each camera.  I can review the videos on my local net without removing the SD-cards. The quality of the result has little to do with the pixel resolution, much more important is the quality of the optics and that it is in focus. Fuzzy images means either out of focus or tampered with.

I don’t use cloud services to store the videos, even if the software is constantly trying to convince me I should. There is every reason to assume a top class hotel with the US president as guest should have top class camera equipment and a local file server or cloud service.

Disk storage is not expensive these days, I just checked a store nearby where a 12 TB NAS HD is sold for the equivalent of ~550 USD. If you tell me a top class hotel can’t afford a bunch of those, or alternatively use the well trusted (ahem) cloud services of Microsoft, Google or Amazon, I disagree. If they want to, they can do all of those things.

I wish some genius – such as Lyn Alden or another – could tell me why the dollar isn’t immortal and invincible.
The US is a huge market that pulls in exports from other nations.  The nations get stuck with dollars and are coerced into buying Treasuries. This goes on forever – seemingly. The trade deficit dollars don’t cause inflation because that money gets locked into Treasury debt instruments.  Furthermore, the yuan is NOT really replacing the dollar as the reserve currency – as the Chinese aren’t eager to do that.
So, what happens to change this into Argentina?  What step takes place to end the system here?  It looks like it just goes on and on……

Norwegian @191: “If they want to…”

And they obviously don’t want to. I am sure the hotel has some plan to update their security system, but it certainly wasn’t done in the last couple years. It may even be that the data network in the hotel can’t even support the throughput to support modern security cameras, meaning they would have to pull wire throughout the whole facility.

I don’t know what the hotel’s plans are, but if you want the low resolution to be because of a conspiracy then you have to include the hotel in that conspiracy. The simple answer remains there is no conspiracy and the failed assassin was just another TDS nutcase.

Isn’t the UAE exporting about 1.5 million bpd pipeline via Fujairah?  Some of it in crude and some of it in refined products?  So they are making money.

Plus ships can travel out of the gulf via UAE waters behind some UAE islands.  A few have done so.  It is slower and more restricted than what was happening, but has happened.   I would guess that route will be better marked over time.

Finally, other countries have left OPEC in the past.  So that in itself isn’t that big a deal.  The UAE situation does have some unique circumstances though.
