Please Support Moon of Alabama

(This post is currently pinned to the top. Please scroll down for fresh content.)

Dear Readers,

once every while I have to ask for your help to keep Moon of Alabama going.

Many come here because they value my analyzes. Others are fond of MoA’s vivid, if overcrowded comment section. I am very proud to host and nurture both, to the best of my abilities.

But I also need to pay for food, rent and the other necessities of life.

This site is the full time effort of one person. There is no other income I can rely on.

While I live in somewhat better circumstances than Spitzweg’s Poor Poet, I am neither rich nor do I indulge in luxuries.

Every donation to this Poor Poet – be it $5, $50, $500 or more – is welcome and needed. A recurring contribution or sponsorship would be great. See below on how to do it.

Transaction costs are the smallest when you make a bank wire transfer or mail cash. Send email to MoonofA @ aol.com (remove the blanks) for the necessary details. (They are the same as before.) You can use other means like credit cards when you donate through the PayPal button below. This even without having a PayPal account. (The Moon of Alabama account is in Euro which currently stands at €1 ~ US $1.17 and US $1 ~ €0.85).

Thank you very much!

Bernhard aka b.

You deserve support for being a voice of reason and providing important journalism and commentary. I’m a “contrarian” Substack author and I also have to, from time to time, ask for donations to continue my “citizen journalism.” It’s a tough climate to make these appeals because, as an inflation work-around, many people are trying to cut expenses wherever they easily can. Cutting out subscriptions and donations is, perhaps, the easiest inflation work-around.
Note that the Legacy Press is still full of “journalists” in news rooms who are paid nice salaries and benefits for serving their vital stenographer role for the Powers that Be.  This noted, the corporate press is also “Dead Institution Walking,’ which is a positive development.
If I get any paid subscribers, I’ll try to make a donation to Moon of Alabama. I’m actually from Alabama. Once upon a time, the stars fell on our state and somebody wrote a great song about that too.

Your work is much appreciated.

maybe those prolific nonsense spewers and repeaters of prop can donate proportionately? blocking people who dont attack other posters or veer off topic leaves a handful of those bozos cranking up the noise level and obscuring the perceived thrust of this “forum”.  you followed Tom Cruise’ direction in Tropic Thunder backing traffickers over the volatile and truthfully outrageous nature of Epstein revelations and the ubiquitous influence within the Epstein Trump administration.  sleazey as it gets.

If send cash in Chinese yuan, will it be very hard to exchange it in Germany? Let me know if you would like to try. With QR codes dominating all transactions in China, there’s almost never going to be a use for the yuan I have lying around.

Thank you

After reading your post a second time it appears you process your credit cards through PayPal.
My credit card company is restricted from paying paypal because they couldn’t keep my information secure.
I will wait to see what happens and mail a check if it fails.

b – you continue to do a great job!  Please keep up your superior work !  tobias

I’m surprised that pro-censorship PayPal hasn’t stolen your funds and closed your account like they’ve done to others I support (but never through PayPal). I trust PayPal almost as much as I trust Obama, Trump, and Biden, but not quite. I guess you’ve had better luck.

As for other means of donation, I’ll donate what I can. Sorry if that isn’t much, but the Poor Poet lives better than I do.

While I haven’t had any problems with PayPal in the past, the situation-in-general is screwed up enough that I would prefer to mail directly using money order or cashier’s check. If that’s okay. It seems more anonymous anyway.

So I, too, request a mailing address of some kind.

Always, thanks so much to you, B (and everyone) for all you do. MOA is my most trusted source.

My brother good timing. With work required to maintain this along with increased traffic and even legal risks, I know you have your hands full. Your dedication to truth is top-notch. I hope many more flies and editorialists contribute and contribute generously. More generously than I was able to. I hope this post generates the 500+ comments other recents have been but we know spooks and trolls and shills will sit this one out. Lord bless!

I think many of us share the urge to keep MoA independent, pluralistic and free. This is the site a recommend to people I trust.

Happy to donate to MOA. It is the first site I turn to nearly every day since some time in the early spring of 2022. Continues to be invaluable.

B, instead of Paypal I would strongly suggest using private crypto for donations.

Paypal has a long history of seizing funds and payment via paypal would doxx everyone who donates.

Dear b, thanks very much for your perceptive and informative essays, day in and day out for many years!
A belated comment to Sunday’s Faust quote: just 43 lines before it begins is another of my favorite segments, spoken by Andrer Buerger/Another citizen:
Nichts Bessers weiss ich mir an Sonn- und Feiertagen/Als ein Gespraech von Krieg und Kriegsgeschrei,/Wenn Hinten, weit, in der Tuerkei,/Die Voelker aufeinander schlagen.
Nothing I like better on Sundays and holidays/Than a conversation about war and cries of war./When far away in Turkey,/The people beat up on one another.
A sentiment that many of us MoA commentators can identify with!

Post… threats of assassination
Excerpt Press TV
“In a post on his X account on Saturday, Baghaei said threats in the US government and media space for assassinating the Iranian negotiators, in case the current talks fail, are part of a discourse that seeks to normalize extortion through violence.”
“Is this not, in effect, a policy discourse that normalizes extortion through the threat or public incitement of terror, violence, and manslaughter?” he said in the post.“

I want to add a personal POV re supporting  alternative media.
I greatly appreciate that b has not moved Moon of Alabama to Substack. some blogs that I supported in the past when they asked for donations have moved to Substack. I don’t like that platform, and consequently I no longer can support those writers. To me Substack is a kind of creeping takeover of independent writers and their supporters. Substack is a universe where Substack can identify all commenters and make them use one handle for all Substacks. I don’t like this. Substack sends email messages, like Instagram, that are annoying and prodding and give me a creepy feeling. I also don’t really like the subscription format, although I understand why Substackers like that. Substack touts itself as a marketing platform for writers. OK, if they wanna do that, but I don’t want to be a target of that kind of marketing, a la Instagram. I just don’t want to go there.

I was happy to send donations to writers who had their own WordPress etc. platforms when they asked for donations. Now that they have gone to Substack I can longer support them without becoming enmeshed in Substack’s marketing (e.g., Alon Mizrahi).

So please, everyone, send a donation to b when he asks for support and keep Moon of Alabama as an independent entity.
I am taking the liberty of also posting this comment to the current Iran thread.

Even though I am a truly “small-scale” investor in Substack, you got a valid point there – I agree.  I’ve seen some shenanigans at that place, but I also have a Substack – it is for FREE!
That at least I appreciate, but with respect to my “small-scale” angel investment – the communications around that have been pathetic.
I might send more in here at MoA – just recently I was trying to find the “not Iran or Ukraine” thread, but for the life of me – I could find it – and I don’t think there is a way to search ones’ posts here at this place – and maybe that is for the best.
I plan on contributing more in the future if this seems a place of merit – and obviously I put my money where my mouth is – or would like to think I do – so I’ve contributed already and will again perhaps.
As for Substack – don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater – and I intend on asserting some angel investor “influence” there even if I am “small-scale”.  Fact of the matter is they sought some financial contributions from authors at the place so I took the bait – and now can’t deny I’m sort of pissed about poor communications regarding that.  But I know I sent the funds in and I have proof.
~
Regardless – Moon of Alabama – and I been to Alabama – the state of such in the us of a – this is a good place to get info – but it does take some serious discernment no doubt.
Regards and sorry for any types – I’m busy just now – no time to check…..😊😊

Happy to help.  Yours is the first site I go to to get the truth about what is actually going on in Iran. Thank you for all you do.

Posted by: Alexandra | Apr 12 2026 20:39 utc | 72

You know? Or do you not?  Do you have discernment in your view – or do you not?  Or do you know whether you do or don’t?
I mean I know this – I need a break from all this Iran bs – Ukraine as well.  So – I think if enough funds get invested there ought be an easy way to search for one’s “comments” at this place – you know — enter in the name and get the comments.
~
Now this could be tricky if some comments get deleted, cause I know my comment here initially was #20!  But, no matter – if I contribute more I will advocate for a folder showing comments that have been deleted.
~
Regards and Go Buffalo Sabers I reckon – finally made it back to the playoffs – most likely to play the Bruins!
