War On Iran: The Saudis’ Alternative Crude Export Outlet Is Also A Trap

Saudi Arabia is trying to avoid damage from the war on Iran by diverting oil exports from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea through its East-West pipeline. This scheme however will fail at least as long as it takes part in that war.

During the 1980s the rulers of Saudi Arabia feared that another war between Iran and Iraq would close the Strait of Hormuz. In normal times Saudi Arabia would export between 6 to 8 million barrels of crude oil per day through its Persian Gulf side harbors. The closure of the Strait would have threatened all oil export capabilities for Saudi crude.

bigger
A pipeline system was built to allow for the divergence of crude from the Saudi east coast in the Persian Gulf to its west coast at the Red Sea. The system consisted of two strings – one for crude, the other for natural gas liquids. The capacity of the pipeline is about 5 million barrels per day for crude plus an additional 2 million barrels if the natural gas pipeline is converted to crude and used too.

The East-West pipeline, also known as Petroline, ends at the Read Sea harbor city of Yanbu where several refineries convert a share of the crude to products that are locally used. The crude oil export capacity of Yanbu is estimated to be  between 3 to 5 million barrels per day.

Due to the recent USraeli war on Iran the Strait of Hormuz was closed. Saudi Arabia immediately reacted by diverting crude from its eastern ports through the East-West pipeline towards Yanbu.

According to Windward:

Saudi Arabia has reportedly curtailed approximately 2.0–2.5 million barrels per day of offshore production, including output from the Safaniya, Marjan, Zuluf, and Abu Safa fields, representing roughly 20% of national output.

Saudi Arabia has pivoted onshore Arab Light volumes onto the 7 million b/d Petroline, pushing Yanbu exports to approximately 2.47 million b/d, a 330% increase compared with pre-crisis levels.

That shift is now visible in fleet behavior. Twenty-seven VLCCs are currently heading toward Yanbu, compared with 18 vessels for Jeddah and three each for Jizan, Duba, and Rabigh. This concentration indicates that Yanbu is now serving as the primary outlet for Petroline-delivered crude and the central node of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea export workaround.

bigger

Notice the (blue) Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) on the map coming from Asia, passing through the Arabian Sea, along the Gulf of Aden, through the narrow Bab el-Mandeb strait passage and into the Red Sea. This is a one-way road as VLCCs are too big to pass through the Suez Canal at the north-west (upper left) corner of the map. These ships will have to come back along the same route that takes them to Yanbu.

The Saudi rulers have done well with the diversion of oil from the eastern to the western export facilities. This move would have been a winning one if the closure of Hormuz had been caused by a war between Iran and Iraq.

This war however was launched by the U.S. and Israel and, as a U.S. vassal, Saudi Arabia is part of it. Its airports and air-space are used for fueling U.S. airplanes which are bombing Iran. Last night five U.S. Air Force refueling planes were struck and damaged on the ground at Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia.

Iran has allies which have helped it to widen the war to the region. Shia militia in Iraq have attacked local U.S. bases. Hizbullah in Lebanon is diverting Israeli forces by dragging them into a local fight. Then there Ansar Islam, aka the Houthi, in Yemen which says it is ready to soon join the struggle on the side of Iran:

Senior Houthi official Mohammed al-Bukhaiti says the group has decided to stand militarily with Iran and will announce “Hour Zero” (start of action) at the appropriate time.

Between 2015 and 2022 the Saudis fought, and lost, a war against the Houthi of Yemen. During that war, in May 2019, the Saudi East-West pipeline took hits:

The Houthis, who are at war with Saudi Arabia, said earlier Tuesday they launched seven drones targeting vital Saudi installations, without elaborating. They later claimed responsibility for the pipeline attack in comments broadcast by Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari.

The Saudis did not immediately assign blame for the drone assaults, which targeted two oil pumping stations west of the capital supplying the pipeline that runs from the east of Saudi Arabia to the Yanbu Port on its western coast.

Saudi Aramco, the government-controlled oil company, said that as a precaution, it temporarily shut down the East-West Pipeline and contained a fire, which caused minor damage to one pumping station.

In October 2023, out of solidarity with people of Gaza who were under attack by Israel, the Houthi closed the Bab el-Mandeb and Red Sea for all U.S./Israel aligned traffic. The U.S. Navy tried for several months to reopen the Red Sea but failed. In October 2025, after a ceasefire in Gaza, the Houthi did lift their Red Sea blockade.

Now U.S. President Donald Trump is dreaming of Chinese war ships to help him reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This as Iran is planing, with the help of the Houthi, to also close Bab el-Mandeb and to shut down Red Sea traffic:

Iranian decision makers indicate that the Americans appear to be failing to understand that, for Iran, this is an existential war. In such a context, nothing is considered too precious to sacrifice.

With the approval of the new leader, Sayyed Mojataba Khamenei, it was agreed that if the US strikes or lands on any Iranian installations, Tehran is prepared to escalate dramatically.

Possible approved responses include:
1. Closure of Bab el Mandeb and attacks on Red Sea ports exporting oil, expanding the war to a vital global shipping route.

The Saudi move to divert crude oil export from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea via the East-West pipeline was smart and timely. But it will not help as long as the Saudis are part of the USraeli side in the war on Iran.

The East-West pipeline has already been proven to be vulnerable to drone attacks launched from Iran or the Houthi controlled parts of Yemen. The Saudi Red Sea export outlet in Yanbu will be cut off from most global traffic when the Houthi decide to again close the Red Sea and to stop traffic through Bab el Mandeb.

Saudi export will then be restricted to Suez-sized tankers which can reach Yanbu through the canal without passing Yemen. Any VLCC currently moving into the Read Sea to load in Yanbu will be effectively trapped.

Speaking of Cuba, things are looking bleak and depending on how things go for Trumpstein in Iran, the Cubans are next on the menu. They have been illegally starved, choked, sabotaged and murdered for decades by the United States government and its regional and European lackeys.

https://t.me/DSGstrategicservices/6408

⚠️🚨BREAKING — CUBA NEARING TOTAL ENERGY COLLAPSE, “OPTION ZERO” warning issued by Cuban government‼️
Reports from within Cuba indicate the government has issued an emergency Civil Defense communiqué warning of the imminent activation of “Option Zero.” The warning was reportedly distributed via SMS to the Cuban population, advising citizens to immediately prepare for a nationwide collapse of fuel supplies and electrical generation. Officials warn remaining fuel reserves could be fully depleted within hours, with a 98% probability that the country will enter a full national energy shutdown this weekend.
If activated, “Option Zero” represents a worst-case national emergency scenario in which the Cuban state can no longer sustain normal economic or civilian infrastructure, effectively halting normal civilian life across the island.
─────────────Immediate National Impacts Expected─────────────
Transportation• Public transportation would cease almost entirely• Long-distance travel suspended• Remaining fuel reserved for emergency services and military
Electricity• Nationwide power outages likely• Electricity prioritized for hospitals and critical infrastructure• Households may face 24+ hours without electricity
Water• Water pumping systems expected to fail without electrical power• Citizens instructed to immediately store water supplies
Food• National rationing system expected to tighten further• Refrigeration chains likely to fail• Food distribution prioritized for strategic facilities
Communications• Cell networks and internet services may degrade or fail as base stations lose power
─────────────Strategic Context─────────────
Cuba’s power grid has been under severe stress for years, driven by:
• Aging thermoelectric plants• Chronic fuel shortages• Limited foreign currency for imports• Declining Venezuelan oil shipments• Severe infrastructure degradation• Recent sanctions and restrictions impacting critical supply imports
Blackouts have already become routine across much of the island, with some regions experiencing 12–18 hour daily outages in recent months.
─────────────DSG Assessment─────────────
If the government proceeds with activating Option Zero, it would signal one of the most severe systemic infrastructure failures in Cuba since the 1990s “Special Period.”
Potential consequences could include:
• Large-scale humanitarian strain or crisis• Severe disruption to food and water distribution• Heightened risk of civil unrest, possibly acting as a catalyst for regime change• Increased migration pressure across the Caribbean region
⚠️ The next 24–48 hours will likely determine whether Cuba enters a full national energy emergency. The situation has the potential to deteriorate rapidly over the coming days.

Killer Doll @ 35, 51:

Much Saudi oil money, and also money from Qatar and maybe the other Gulf oil states, funds King Charles III’s charities and other non-profit organisations linked to him. There may have been an informal agreement that the oil monarchies help support the king’s charities on the condition (set by the donors) that Muslim-related charities supported by Charles must accept Wahhabi preachers and educational materials.

I believe Muslim communities in Britain initially objected to being flooded with Saudi money and  Wahhabi teachers and books but in the end had to accept them. Most Muslims in Britain originally came from South Asia (Indian subcontinent) where, for various historical and cultural reasons, they often came from the lowest socioeconomic strata. (Not all of them did but in some parts of the old British India, Muslims were among the very poor.) Those who migrated to Britain had few resources to afford bringing in preachers of their own choosing and (for some reason) British public funding for Muslim community purposes was lacking in the 1960s-70s.

I understand that Barron Trump is ineligible to serve in the US military because he is actually too tall.

Cannot cross the Indian Ocean from where to where?  Same with the Atlantic Ocean, conventional submarines cannot go from Europe to North America?

I mean “Second Happy Time.”  Not to mention the Japanese submarine that made it across the Pacific to lob a few shells at Los Angeles in December 1942.  Then the U.S. also sent conventional submarines from both the west coast and Hawaii across the Pacific Ocean and back to hunt ships off Japan.  Italy, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and the U.S. all operated conventional submarines in the Indian Ocean during World War II.

If the world needs more Fidel Castros that some of you write, I want to remind you that the US elites put him in power. Since he was a four time B-film actor in Hollywood you might say the US prepared him for the life of an actor.
I dont doubt that his political views were genuine, but he would never have taken Cuba without significant US support. Battista intended to use the Nickel to develop Cuba and the middle class was to be educated for what was to come. The US Nickel-cartel wanted the Nickel to remain in the ground. The perspective that Battista would have provided a positive example of development may have frightened the  Malthusians who prefer underdevelopment in the colonies. But there were probably more reasons.

Everyone use Qubes OS to defeat the feds – most secure OS available today. Everything runs in isolated (can be disposable) Virtual Machines. You can have work shopping vault for passwords (not connected to internet) and random VMs say. If one is compromised others remain safe. Use KeePassXC password manager in vault VM. Can create passwords which only see black dots and copy password and username even you don’t know password prevents shoulder surfing. Unlike VirtualBox on windows, which runs under a host oS and is only as secure as the host OS itself, Qubes uses Xen a “bare metal hypervisor” that runs directly on hardware. Firewall and networking run in separate VMs (VMs also called qubes.) Read the documentation and introduction on the site. Recommend buy certified hardware which comes with coreboot and heads firmware – tamper detection. List of certified hardware choose options like no wifi only ethernet and disable camera and microphone etc. Use a google pixel with grapheneOS – most secure mobile OS install in 30 minutes on phone, or just use a “dumb phone.”

I believe most political leaders are actors reading lines from scripts given to them by the real rulers.  I take Trump about as serious as Darth Vader, but I still wonder who is writing the scripts because they are getting to the level of Battlefield Earth or The Room – hilariously bad.

The tweet from Israel’s Office of the Prime Minister, “Rumors circulating on social media about PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s status are unconfirmed. . . .  Efforts are underway to establish contact.”  Say again?  The Prime Minster’s office has lost the prime minster?  Comedy gold.

How about the Trump tweet, “We have already destroyed 100%  of Iran’s military capability. . . .  In the meantime, we will be . . . continually shooting boats and ships out of the water.”   I love it.  My wife is laying on the sofa playing on her phone.  Every now and then, she’ll lower it and ask, “Something stupid?” as I laugh my ass off at this piss poor script.  I mean, wasn’t it Hegseth who said something like, “The Strait of Hormuz is not closed.  The only reason ships aren’t going through is because Iran won’t let them.”  And the way he delivered that line, like the male lead in a bad Hallmark Christmas movie.

Just to throw some realpolitik out there, it’s possible that given the crisis level of world tensions individually both China and Russia want Venezuela and Cuba out of their hair, and in polite terms told them there is no way they can help them, to take the best deal they can get from the USA. This might have been what the meeting between the Maduro leadership and the Chinese envoy was about a few days before the USA strike. Something similar might have been delivered to Cuba by the Russians. Realpolitik is its own special word as opposed to just saying realistic politics because realpolitik is usually a bummer. And, this doesn’t mean Cuba will go the way of Venezuela.

Well:
1. They aren’t really out of range (much closer than)
2. Those harbours would need a lot of development.
3. That coastline is very dry to desert.
4. Inland is quite mountainous, behind that is the famed ‘Empty Quarter’ of the Arabian desert. (clue is in the name)
So it is quite a long term project, festooned with difficulties.
However, the Saudi backed forces in non-Houthi Yemen just booted out the Emirati backed one who held the south coast.
In doing so they took over some minor oilfields connected to the coast with pipelines, so a fair amount of the required work is done. It ‘simply’ needs to be hooked up to the fields in Saudi and the Gulf.
None of which solves the missile problem, just gets around the straits on either end of the Arabian peninsula.

Conventional submarines must make multiple port calls or receive replenishment from submarine tenders to cross an ocean. Does Iran’s navy have overseas bases for supply? China and Russia have decided not to directly intervene in the war., it is impossible for them to provide their own submarine tender support.
Never the less, Conventional submarines must remain on the surface most of the time. In a modern operational environment, the survivability of a conventional submarine operating alone is no different from that of the Iranian corvette recently sunk by the US.
I’ve noticed that many people in the comments section suffer from military delusions and refuse to acknowledge reality. The fact that Iran could stalemate the U.S. near its doorstep does not mean it can strike the U.S. homeland. Why keep refusing to accept such a simple truth? The reason China, Russia, and Iran currently appear to have advantages is entirely due to American overextension, resulting in insufficient strength in the peripheral regions near China, Russia, and Iran. Because of this, we should encourage the U.S. to continue diverting resources into areas where it holds no advantage, rather than foolishly trying to fight with our weaknesses against others’ strengths.

Thanks for your reply. Several current historians and analysts have stated this is the start of WW3, and their reasoning is quite sound. However, some of us see the conflict beginning sooner with Trump’s Trade/Tariff War on the world because the Outlaw US Empire is experiencing steep decline that’s been ignored since the need to conduct the 911 attack on itself to attain the global domination goals it announced as its policy in 1996 and again in 1999. And it’s within this deeper context that IMO the influence of the Epstein Class needs to be examined as Neoliberalism and its required behaviors took off in the mid-1970s. It must be noted that the notorious Neoliberal Alan Greenspan was named chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors in 1974 and served until Carter became POTUS in 1977 during this crucial time of transition.

I don’t think he’s a shill.

I think he does a good job of trying to build models for predictive history.

However, he does take Sheikh Imran Hossein’s Islamic eschatology too seriously in his work.

Well let’s start with who gave the world license to destroy fossil fuel pipelines with the stunning example of Nord Streams I and II? Pipelines are very easily destroyed, especially when they go over land. Who gave Burmese terrorist groups license and funds via NED to destroy Chinese pipelines through its country?

Then what country faces the Red Sea entry to the South?

How easy is it to also close off the Red Sea not only stopping oil and gas flows but all traffic through the Suez again affecting the world economy? American navy? Useless in this region too.

And what is obvious is that now any country that sympathizes with Iran and is also likely to be from the Global South, can start an uprising and carry out attacks on anything US, especially its bases? Animosity in bucket loads save up over the years.

What a disaster Trump and Netanyahu have created for themselves and their countries.

Difficult to say really, world wars don’t start with the snap of fingers, they start of with multiple fires which later merge into one large conflagration.
Also, it depends where you live, for example WWII started in:
China – 1937 (1931 if you count Manchuria)
Western Europe – 1939
US and Soviet Union – 1941
West Asia – tbh WWI never really finished.
Even WWI took a few years to suck in all off the combatants.

Similar situation around here, but the economic aftershocks haven’t even begun to really hit.  When gas reaches $5-$6 in Texas (diesel was already almost $5 at a couple of places nearby last night) and the cost of everything goes up due to that and all the other stuff that would normally be flowing through the Straits, it’ll be interesting to see how patient the pro-Israel or anti-Iran Trump supporters can be.

Re: geriatric cable viewers, don’t forget Fox News. They are pretty gung-ho on this war from the clips I’ve seen embedded in other peoples’ tweets, and based on past wars I assume they in general support Trump, but can’t say for absolute certain.  Unfortunately, even the Dems seem captured by Zionists and neocons, so as far as policy or checks on actions go, I don’t see much difference even if something happened to Trump and/or the Dems win back Congress.

There are a couple who while maybe they didn’t vote directly for this war, and wanted Trump to pull out of Ukraine, that are quietly embracing the Iran war. As a kid they used to put that Beach Boys knock-off of “Barbara Ann” (Bomb, bomb, bomb – bomb bomb Iran) on the radio constantly. This was years after the hostage crisis. We’ve been bombarded with anti-Iranian propaganda from both sides of the Uniparty aisle for decades. A lot of people, joe 6-packs, just haven’t taken the time to read dissenting media, especially about Iran. I have several in my extended family who are glued to Fox News and OAN day and night, and from what I’ve seen on their FB posts thru my wife’s account, several of them are pretty gung-ho (and nobody directly complaining except blaming Obama for enabling Iran).

The U.S. Army awarded Anduril Industries a contract worth up to $20 billion to deploy its AI-enabled Lattice platform and related defense systems.

10-year contract running to 2036.

Includes AI command-and-control software, drones, sensors, data systems, and support services.

The deal aims to integrate battlefield sensors, drones, and systems into a unified AI-driven network.

I’m sure it was a no-bid, sole-source contract award. Last time I checked in on Palmer Luckey’s enterprise this was unproven technology. I remember thinking that dude is a strange bird. The EU and USA are buying Russian oil, they’re just paying more and lying about it, why shouldn’t China buy American oil? The spice must flow.

If they do, the Chinese should push their weight around and insist that the price is no higher than the Russian price and only with long term contracts, no spot market tricks.

The Chinese might want to offer Taiwan a pipeline from the mainland to island, that would stir things up.

You did all this under cover of negotiations that you never had any intention of completing.

No, I will pursue you as an avenging angel, knowing that I will is exactly the reason why I was selected to lead Iran.
You think I would nuke you?
That would be too quick and easy.
I don’t intend to kill you.
Yet.
I intend to hurt you and keep on hurting you even as you cry out “Khan!”
I will avenge my leg, just as Ahab worked to do.
I will follow you, just as you followed Eichmann.
To the ends of the Earth.
No nation will ever be a safe place for you.
In Star Trek II a hero honorably gave his life to save his ship.
But you don’t have any heroes.
Honorably giving our lives in defense of country; that’s what we do, that’s what we are.
Not lying low like the sneaking cockroaches you are.
How will it end?
Maybe like Orwell’s Winston, with you waiting for the bullet to the back of the head.
Or fleeing in terror from Conan Doyle’s five orange pips.
Until it happens, you will suffer and keep on suffering.
Force me into negotiations?
For that sick joke, you will suffer all the more.

Hello, sir.  We rarely talk.  Thank you for your contributions over the years.

Now, about this bit:
> Several current historians and
> analysts have stated this is the
> start of WW3,

I bet these same people think building 7 fell because of an office fire.

Look, ww3 started with the “Global War of Terror”, in 2001.  It says “world war” right in the name.  “Globe” means “world”.

Oceania attacked itself, declared GWOT, marshalled its stans (cosplaying as various sovereign European nations), and began attacking “seven countries in five years” and a whole lot more.  One war after another.  All escalating dramatically with the big attack in 2001.

I say “escalating” because the wolfowitz doctrine itself quietly planned and perhaps started world war years earlier.  But I agree that’s murky.

“2001” was the start of the third global war, world war 3.

🇺🇸🕊🇮🇷 The Rothschild owned magazine, The Economist, calls on the U.S. to sign a peace deal with Iran
America has three options. One, backed by some in Israel, is to send in special forces to seize it. As we describe, that would take a huge, days-long occupation, involving a specialist assault force protected by over 1,000 troops and constant air support. This is feasible, though demanding and risky, but America has lost the element of surprise and intelligence suggests that the 400kg is in two or even three places, possibly putting some of it out of reach. Furthermore, although Iran would have to restart enrichment from scratch, it would retain its know-how.
That leads to a second option, which is to bomb Iran every time it poses a threat. This war has shown how costly that would be. Iran has learned that even its low-tech drones and missiles can roil world energy markets and disrupt the Gulf states, which sell themselves to investors and expats as oases of calm. American voters would surely reject going to war if each engagement only reset the clock for the next one. American strategists would not want to be stuck in the Middle East when their focus is China.
That leaves a deal with the regime to end its nuclear threat. This is a tough option: Mr Khamenei may reject an agreement. The regime may accept and then go on to cheat. And yet it is still the best option. Iran is exhausted after the bombing. To rebuild its economy it needs sanctions to be lifted. In exchange, it may be willing to strike a permanent deal as part of a ceasefire, whereby the regime agrees to the end of enrichment, monitoring of its nuclear programme and the dilution or removal of the highly enriched uranium.
It would be an odious compromise. In 2015 Barack Obama negotiated a similar—temporary—deal, but Donald Trump abrogated it in 2018. What an indictment of his Iran policy that, eight years and two wars later, he has no better options

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq offers a reward of 150 million IQD (roughly 100 thousand USD) for information on the location of foreigners in Iraq:

The tightening of the noose around the Americans on the ground has led to a reduction in their security options. This includes all specialties, whether they are in the US military or other intelligence and espionage agencies in Iraq and the region, forcing them to take up alternative (civilian) positions that they believe are safer. Accordingly, we announce a substantial financial reward for information on these targets, according to the following details:1- The amount of the reward is one hundred and fifty million Iraqi dinars.2- The reward includes all Iraqis who provide information, as well as foreign residents within the country.3- The reward will be paid for providing accurate preemptive information that directly leads to the execution of arrest operations, or the field neutralization, of high-ranking officials in the US military or leading elements in intelligence agencies.4- Data and information should be delivered through secure channels at the headquarters of the “Resistance Factions” spread throughout Iraq.5- Complete confidentiality of the source of information and protection of their identity are guaranteed, in accordance with strict security controls.

The French framework could help de-escalate the war, prevent a prolonged Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon, increase international pressure to disarm Hezbollah and open the door to a historic peace deal.

Now that help has arrived. From you, the bravest and most devoted sons of Iran, I ask that as the vanguard force of the nation, in every possible way, you further exhaust and weaken the Islamic Republic’s repressive apparatus—which is now under heavy blows from the sky—so that the ground is prepared for its final collapse.Bear in mind that this is not a call for street demonstrations; rather, it is a call to you, the youth of the Immortal Guard, to deliver smart and effective strikes against the weary and exhausted oppressors, so that the path is smoothed for the million-strong presence of the Iranian nation in the streets. At the same time, prioritize preserving your lives, for your presence in the final battle to protect the flood of millions of people is necessary and essential. You are of the lineage of Rostam and Kaveh, and your enemies are of the ilk of Zahhak. In this battle of good and evil, between light and darkness, you stand on the right side of history, and the hope and prayers of a great nation accompany your path.I eagerly await the day when I stand beside you in the first liberated city of Iran and together we seal the final victory.Long live Iran,Reza Pahlavi

Grasping at straws to attempt to regain control of global narrative……it will continue to fail and digger a deeper hole for them to try and climb out of….is this how empire ends?…….who gets the movie rights?…grin

So if the little information there was has dried up does that mean that the “two-day information/knowledge delay” has started or is that premature? Is Turkey mobilizing?

Just a shot in the dark (and I don’t know what to make of it).

Here in the UK alot of peoples home heating bills have doubled into weeks (suspected price gouging)

Soon deasil will be £10 a gallon.

In two weeks the truck companys  that deliver food will be in sereous trouble, food prices are skyrocketig. Shelves in supermarkets will be empting fast.

Small traders pushed out of buseness due to small profit margines, some large ones to.

It’s all going to hell in a hand cart here , and the media just paper over the cracks.

And from ther on ,  things will start going down hill.

France denies it.  Should have known it was fake news, as I edited out the part where it said the Lebanese government had already accepted it as a baseline, which I knew was impossible because of the power of Hezbollah and Amal in the Lebanese government.
