War On Iran – Regional Participation – U.S. Blames Israel

As the war on Iran continues it is getting even more difficult to assess the operational losses and the damage caused by either side. All parties, Iran, Israel, the U.S. and various Gulf countries, practice information warfare and censorship. They exaggerate their successes and do not admit their losses.

It makes little sense then to make any statements about the progress of the war as it unfolds on the ground. We will have to  wait and look for irrefutable evidence before guessing the outcome.

A month ago the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei had warned that any attack on Iran would develop into a regional war. He could have added that it would have global consequences.

Khamenei’s prediction has -to some extend-  come true. Iran has attacked various U.S. bases in western Gulf countries. The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was hit. Hizbullah in Lebanon has launched drones against a U.S./British base in Cyprus. Israel is invading Lebanon and the West Bank. Iraqi militia have launched attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan. Locals have attacked U.S. consulates in Pakistan.

But the Gulf countries themselves have not yet entered the war. They have spent their air defense after defending against missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases.  They are now low on ammunition and the U.S. is in no position to back their needs.

Several small hits have been reported against oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Iran has denied to have attacked those sites. It is possible that Israel or the U.S. is launching these strikes to incite the Gulf states to more actively join their attack on Iran. I doubt that they are stupid enough to do so.

The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Qatar has stopped its production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Iraq is throttling its oil production as its storage capacity in Basra is full as no tankers arrive to load its products. All together some 20% of the daily global oil and gas production has been cut off or is endangered. Global oil and gas prices have already increased dramatically and are likely to rise further. Gas stocks in Europe are low as are oil reserves in India. A long war may well threaten the economic and social well being in those regions.

In its usual amateurish ways the Trump administration is trying to blame Israel (vid) for the start of the war:

Rubio: There was absolutely an imminent threat and it was that we knew that if Iran was attacked and we believe that they would be attacked, that they would immediately come after us and we were not going to sit there and absorb a blow

So the U.S. had to ‘pre-emptivly’ attack Iran because Israel was going to attack Iran?

The New York Times is trying to support that meme with the opening line of its tick-tock report about the start of the war  placing the blame (archived) on the U.S. proxy:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel walked into the Oval Office on the morning of Feb. 11, determined to keep the American president on the path to war. …

But who ordered two aircraft carrier and some 250 U.S. attack planes to the Middle East? Who had urgently wished for Israel to attack Iran to have an excuse to join the fight?

Just a week ago Politico reported:

Senior advisers to President Donald Trump would prefer Israel strike Iran before the United States launches an assault on the country, according to two people familiar with ongoing discussions.

These Trump administration officials are privately arguing that an Israeli attack would trigger Iran to retaliate, helping muster support from American voters for a U.S. strike.

The calculus is a political one — that more Americans would stomach a war with Iran if the United States or an ally were attacked first.

It is easy to blame Israel for this war but all the means to wage it, and the decision to launch it, were coming from the White House. The war was not started and is not fought for Israel but to advance the global position of the United States.

Rubio and Trump just want to cover their asses by misdirecting the anger of their MAGA follower over the war towards Israel. It is doubtful that any of them will swallow that nonsense.

It is the U.S. which wants to ‘regime change’ Iran. The chance to do that by air-power is zero. Their is also no proxy force, internally or externally, that would be willing to fight a ground war within Iran. Thus the U.S. campaign is destined become a failure.

Assessment on the current state of Iranian air defence by Military Chronicle. Fog of war is too thick IMO to say if it is realistic, too doomer, or not.

Which Iranian air defense systems might still remain combat-effective under conditions of air supremacy by US and Israeli tactical aviation?
It is widely known that even the “deep” echelon of the IRGC’s air defense today is largely deprived of the capability for full deployment and sustained combat operations, given the de facto control of the air situation by manned and unmanned tactical aircraft of the US Air Force/Navy and the Israeli Air Force.
Most medium and long-range air defense systems, which rely on detection, illumination, and guidance radar — including the Arman, Sevom Khordad, S-300PMU-2, Bavar-373, 15th Khordad, and others — were compromised and had their positions revealed by their own radiation emissions within the first day. Their operation is detected by US signals intelligence aircraft like the RC-135V Rivet Joint, as well as the onboard radar warning receivers of F-15Es, F-35Is, and F/A-18E/Fs. Once positions are identified, they are struck with anti-radiation missiles, cruise missiles (such as the AGM-88E, AGM-84H), and other munitions.
However, completely eliminating the threat of intercepts hasn’t been entirely possible: there have been recorded instances of successful, albeit isolated, shootdowns of Israeli Hermes 900 drones and even American MQ-9 Reapers.
In many episodes, such intercepts are attributed to the use of the Missile 358 (“Product 358”) loitering air defense missile. With a relatively low speed of about Mach 0.6, a range of up to 100 km, and an intercept ceiling of approximately 8,500 meters, it is capable of acting in a “free hunt” mode against US and Israeli drones. However, using radio command guidance creates a problem of revealing its position: the transmitting antenna or control point can be pinpointed by enemy electronic intelligence assets.
Against this backdrop, mobile short-range systems operating in a “shoot-and-scoot” manner appear more survivable — notably, the AD-08 Majid. Their key advantage is that target detection and tracking are accomplished via an electro-optical channel (including thermal imaging), not radar. Consequently, such systems are significantly harder to detect based on emissions, and the airborne radar warning receivers on US and Israeli aircraft are practically useless against them.
The AD-08 missiles have an infrared seeker, a stated range of about 8 km, an intercept altitude of up to 6 km, and a speed of around Mach 2. There is a version suggesting that a Majid might have been involved in shooting down a Tomahawk-type cruise missile — photographs of wreckage have been published to support this claim.
The IRGC may also have a certain stockpile of R-73 and R-27T missiles with infrared seekers, which could be employed from mobile ground platforms equipped with thermal imaging sighting systems. It is known that such improvised air defense systems are in the possession of the Houthis and have, in the past, demonstrated the capability to intercept not only American drones but also a Saudi F-15S. This specific incident was recorded in 2018.

At what point does all this become unacceptable to western governments?
Posted by: Dave G | Mar 4 2026 12:32 utc | 927

Not anytime soon, especially in the light of possible longer term disruptions of deliveries of oil and gas from the gulf countries. What can the western governments realistically do? Virtue signalling for domestic consumption like Spain’s PM is doing now seems to be their limit. It is not like they can expell the US and Israel from using bases on european soil or find a new source of LNG or oil to replace america’s. Nord Stream and now even Druzhba pipeline aren’t going to be functional anytime soon. They’ve found themselves between a rock and hard place because idiots like von der Leyen and Kallas run the asylum. They are vassals of the USA first and foremost, they will fall in line and beg uncle Sam to send them more gas so their industries won’t fall into a complete insignifance.

They aren’t hearing sirens because apparently most if not all THAAD radars and other ground fixed radars are destroyed.  According to Laith Marouf, the Israel radar installations in Golan heights are also disabled.

The only warning now can come from US AWACS planes, which is probably not that reliable.

Notice the nuances of this article:  the missile was not in Turkish airsoace, but headed to Turkish airspace, and not shot diwn by Turkish air defense but by NATO air defense “over the mediterranean”.

in other words, a NATO country that doesnt have permission yet from its government did it.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/livestory/conflict-with-iran-9.7109761?ts=1772627090141

Turkey was drawn into the conflict for the first time today after NATO air and missile defence systems in the Mediterranean destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile that was en route to Turkish airspace, the country’s Defence Ministry said.

“We warn all parties to refrain from actions that would lead to further escalation of conflict in the region. In this context, we will continue to consult with NATO and our other allies,” the ministry said. A reminder that Turkey is a NATO member.

According to reports, Turkey’s foreign minister spoke with his counterpart in Iran to voice protest against the downed missile and urged Iran to avoid widening the conflict.

A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).

The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations, the MRFF told me Monday night.

The MRFF is keeping the complainants anonymous to prevent retribution by the Defense Department. The Pentagon did not immediately respond to my request for comment.

One complainant identified themselves as a non-commissioned officer (NCO) in a unit currently outside the Iran combat zone but in Ready-Support status, deployable at any time. The NCO said they were Christian and emailed the MRFF on behalf of 15 troops, including at least 11 Christians, one Muslim, and one Jew. (Full email printed below.)

FULL INSANITY CAN BE READ HERE
https://jonathanlarsen.substack.com/p/us-troops-were-told-iran-war-is-for

The NCO wrote to the MRFF that their commander “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.”7

Another 1000 post thread! Sorry folks aint got the energy to find the pearls in it. I’m sure there are are a few.

I’ll try and add something different.

Yesterday I stated that the US armed forces are cuckolds – their wife’s daughters and sons are being daily screwed by their forever Pawners.

They stand up and salute and say yes sir no sir three bags full sir ! They bomb children and civilians from afar and believe they are doing it to keep their prostituted wives and children safe ‘at home’.

They are cucks now as they have always been – especially the Marines and SF’s .

Tbe US was planned and setup as the proto Zionist state.

It was peopled from European diasporas who had been raise on various fundamentalist Christian ideologies.

All created to produce tribes of deluded Zionist Christian’s who at heart of their belief would have the Chosen and their God – as the father and mother of their own likkle Jesus. The mangod of slaves!

Roman Christianity was formed a long time after the supposed birth and death of JC and to replace the pantheon of Roman and Greek gods that had their elect supreme humans in charge – from the crazed Caesars to the deluded Khazar converts to the eschatological rapture seeking Zionists of the world now. Probably less than a few billion in total.

They dwarf the population of WasNeverReal and all the self identified Jews in the world.

They do the dirty work for the Old Bastard zio lords. those shapeshiffters who are Talmudic magik money wizards and their ancient dynasties.

The Yankee Doodles were born in naïveté and live with dumb simplistic beliefs – some have epiphanies.
They are soon silenced sometimes by public execution as an example to the various minion leaders they use to keep the rest of the deluded manchilds in cloudcuckoo land.

They crucified Kirk in public when the kid realised he was a tool of the Ziolords, just a deluded Christian slave for the fake living gods with their bloody savage beliefs and practices.

I wonder if he fell for it enough to go and meet any Catholic priests to confess and that reached the living gods ears in minutes after.

I have more but that’ll do for now.

That is highly unlikely to happen IMO. Even if there were enough western politicians to magically grow a spine and attempt something like that, they would be simply outnumbered by others against it. There is no real opposition to the US/Israel in Europe, even the so much praised AfD in Germany is pro-Israel. No one in the fragile glass house they found themselves in will throw a stone at the US. Possibly the only chance for stopping the flow of fuel to the US bases is sabotage by independent groups, but even these are quickly found out thanks to the orwellian surveillance EU has created.

Such coherence between ideological enemies does not arise on the streets — it is written in the headquarters.
This headquarters exists, and its address is known. For example, the CTG Kurdistan group was created by the CIA in 2002 and has been operating as a branch of the American special forces ever since.
It was CTG operators in civilian clothes who escorted Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad airport before the drone strike in 2020.
Today, this alliance is back in action.
Fresh photos of the fighters of the American Delta squadron (D squadron) along with CTG commanders on the Iran-Iraq border have appeared online.

unimperator @846: “Will Iran shoot down a B-2?”

I saw video on Telegram a couple days ago of something big being shot down over Iran. Like airliner-sized big, judging by the way it tumbled as it fell from very high altitude and the size of the fireball and residual conflagration when it struck a hillside many miles away. It certainly wasn’t a little Hermes drone, though I suppose it could have been an RQ-4 with an almost full load of fuel. It could have been a B-2, but then why wouldn’t the Iranians have been bragging about it? That shoot-down remains a mystery to me.

Iran acquired Yak-130 jet trainers. The first Yak-130 aircraft were delivered to Iran in September 2023, with photos showing at least two jets arriving at Isfahan’s Shahid Babaei Air Base.[31]Subsequent imagery and reporting suggest more may have been delivered later.[32] Exact numbers and deal cost were not publicly disclosed.[33] These jet trainers are being utilized by the Iranian Air Force for various roles, including drone interception patrols and air-to-air combat missions.[34] ” .

james.  Unbelievable.  Does President Trump actually believe what he’s saying?  I noticed the lead Europoodle in respectful attendance.  Does he?  I know more about the Europoodles than I do about the Washington crazies (What’s Trump doing, hooking up with those psychos?)  and I’m sure as can be that Merz knows he’s lying through his teeth.  But Friedrich’s frit so you’d expect that.

And the President was not at all polite about the Prime Minster of the UK.  Speaking on behalf of the UK I say to the current President of the United States, put a sock in it.  Starmer might be an ambulatory cadaver and mean with it but he’s our ambulatory cadaver.   1814 wasn’t that long ago so more respect please, Mr President, unless you want to find yourself repainting the White House all over again.

Glenn Diesen
@Glenn_DiesenGermany has returned to being a rogue state. All principles and international law have been abandoned in the hope of becoming a preferred frontline state for the US. Ten years after reunification, German warplanes were bombing another European capital in an illegal war of aggression. Germany positioned itself as a leading supporter of the genocide in Gaza. It took a leading role in the Ukraine proxy war and, predictably, wants to be the main supporter in the war against Iran.
………………………..

I see Iran has painted murals of aircraft on the ground at airports and the Jews and Americans are striking those.
First report of a jet being heard over Tehran and it was shot down. That it made it to Tehran though means that Iran’s air defense is being attritted. Unlike Ukraine, Iran has no friendly land borders for fresh weapons deliveries from the likes of Russia and China. Everything has to be flown in or shipped in, impossible in wartime.

As I understand it, they are fly over bombing as well as sea ship missile bombing.
Excerpt from RT article:

”On Tuesday, Israeli forces entered several locations in southern Lebanon before dawn, reportedly after telling residents to evacuate up to 80 border villages. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least 50 people have been killed in recent exchanges, hundreds were wounded, and tens of thousands of civilians have fled the southern border areas. ***Hezbollah said it was ready for “open war”***with Israel as the cross-border fighting escalated. “

Supposed shootdown of Iranian trainer:

The Israeli Air Force has reported the successful shootdown of an Iranian Air Force Yak-130 combat trainer over the capital Tehran, as part of its sustained military offensive launched alongside the Untied States on February 28 which is aimed specifically at toppling the Iranian government and installing a Western-aligned replacement. The shootdown, if confirmed, would represent the first ever achieved by the F-35 against a manned aircraft, making it the second fighter of its generation to have achieved this. The Russian Su-57 fifth generation fighter was previously credited with a number of shootdowns of Ukrainian aircraft from 2023, although these also remain unconfirmed. Significant questions nevertheless remain regarding the veracity of Israeli claims, with the fabrication of a shootdown also having significant public relations benefits as Israel and the U.S. have been faced with significant setbacks.
The announcement of the shootdown of a Yak-130, which is by far the most modern type of manned combat jet in Iranian service, closely followed Iranian sources’ announcement of the successful shootdown of an F-35 near Tehran, raising the possibility that it may have been made to divert attention away from the Iranian claim. The ability of the F-35 to achieve the shootdown remains in question for a number of reasons, primarily because it would require the fighters to operate deep inside Iranian airspace. Israeli and U.S. fighters have primarily operated from well beyond the country’s borders to launch ballistic and cruise missiles from safe distances, avoiding engaging the country’s vast air defence network, with Iran’s widely distributed infrared guided air defence systems posing a particular threat. Operating the F-35 deep inside Iran at such an early stage in the war, and firing air-to-air missiles which would increase the fighter’s radar cross section and heat signature in a heavily defended area of the country, thus would be a very high risk operation that is out of line with how Israeli fighter operations have generally been conducted.
Israeli Air Force officers have noted that without an air-to-ground missile capability, which is only expected to be achieved when fighters are brought up to a Block 4 standard in the early 2030, the F-35 has been relegated primarily to intelligence collection roles using its powerful sensors to serve as a force multiplier for fourth generation fighters. Thus deploying the fighters for a deep penetration operation into Iran to shoot down fighters over the capital would appear highly out of line with how the fighters have been operated. The F-35 is the only new fighter type Israel has introduced into service since the 1970s, and as a result public relations efforts have focused very heavily on promoting its capabilities, at times leading to the publication of highly implausible stories particularly during its first months in service in 2016-2017. While the shootdown of a Yak-130 fighter is not impossible, it is also highly plausible that the report is part of public relations effort intended to strengthen the image of the Israeli Air Force, and of the F-35, while raising morale as the war takes an unprecedented toll.

UWDude @ 946

Turkey was drawn into the conflict for the first time today after NATO air and missile defence systems in the Mediterranean destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile that was en route to Turkish airspace, the country’s Defence Ministry said.

Reeks of false flag to me.

People speculate what Erdogan will do but Turkiye has hitched its car to the NATO train long ago, it will act like any other NATO country, but that’s the least of it, like Modi and India the dynastic wealth, financial and corporate oligarchs, the political and military classes, and the professional managerial class all have their careers, earnings, and wealth directly tied to the western financial system, there is no way out for them.
The entire lot is perched between Upton Sinclair’s statement, “it is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it” and understanding it all too clearly and knowing that what happened to western sycophants like Abramovich and all the other westernized Russian elite, which was the whole point of sanctioning the pro-western Russian wealthy, it was a loud clear message, a mortal threat to the entire wealthy strata of every allied or western controlled country, you are either fully with us or you’ll be ruined.

I don’t think there will any resistance outside if Russia, China, Iran, DPRK, and Yemen, the only really sovereign countries on the planet. It’s just a question of how enthusiastically the bound nations participate in the USA’s 3rd WW aggression.

Fair point, but Erdogan will make up whatever bullshit he needs to to rile up the Turks and nobody fathoms that this Islamist is actually not Islamic.   The story will be set, “The backstabbing Turkish people, destroyed the brave Iranians and doomed the world.”  Just like the Armenian Genocide, just like Syria. No in-depth political analysis is necessary just dole out, the ubiquitous “treacherous Turk”character slam and it works. The Turks are 80% against Israel, higher than most every country.  The president of the most powerful country in the world is owned, but Turkey operates independently consistent with the treacherous will of the Turkish people.  No, this is about a phone call from a desperate Trump to Erdogan.

there are more and more videos of the US and Israel bombing Iranian aircarft on landing pads, however upon inspection it appears that the Iranians have painted images of airplanes and helicopters on the runaways with thermal paint.   The paint absorbs heat during the day and slowly releasing it during the night causing the drawing to show up on the thermal imaging the US drones are using.  you can identify these decoy by the fact these aircraft dont break apart when hit with a missile .

But that’s the way of the world.

Posted by: malenkov | Mar 4 2026 15:05 utc | 997

Any attack on Iran from Kurdish forces, and maybe from Azerbaijan, wasn’t just thrown together by Trump and Israel a week ago when Iran failed to collapse according to plan. An invasion of Iran is a huge military and logistical operation, even on the proxy level it it would have involved months, probably years of preparation. What we are witnessing is Plan B when Plan A failed but much more likely a series of well planned cascading events, a juggernaut long planned against Iran now rolling forward. We are witnessing a war planning continuum not a bunch of ad hoc events, the ad hoc part, the mission creep, is how they sneak it past USA and EU electorates. By the time the suckers catch on, it’s unstoppable.
