War On Iran: – (Not-) Destroyed Missile Launchers – Seeking Ground War Allies

War propaganda doesn’t change, whoever a conflict is fought with:

Professed success is promoted by doing a countdown towards victory:

The recent war follows the scheme of ever rising enemy losses:

At some point however delusion creeps in:

People start to ask questions:

After Trump’s original plans did not survive contact with the enemy, the media are preparing the public for an escalation towards a ground war:

> President Trump and top aides spent the weekend framing their Iran operation as a resounding military success while imploring other countries to join their effort to resolve a worsening energy crisis related to the Strait of Hormuz.

The Trump administration as soon as this week plans to announce that multiple countries have agreed to form a coalition that will escort ships through the waterway, which runs along the Iranian coast, U.S. officials said. The U.S. and potential coalition countries are still discussing whether those operations would begin before or after the war ends. <

What is the use of escorting ships through the Strait “after the war ends”?

So far there are no takers of Trump’s call for allies. I doubt that there will be any.

The U.S. will have to go it alone. To take a strip of Iranian land north of the Strait of Hormuz with a depth and width sufficient to protect the Strait will require a force of some 100,000 soldiers. The U.S. no longer has such an invasion force nor the means to land it.

That does not mean that Trump won’t try it.

One can hope that the commodity and financial markets will become unruly enough soon enough to stop Trump from bombing Iran ‘a few more times just for fun‘ and from marching towards a ground war.

OH, OK so you want to start this kind of thing up again? If so, then name others and cite comment links.

If not, then please drop it. Start taking people at their word rather than some perceived slight or encoded (but not true) feeling of superiority.

My advice: Just drop it. We had a pretty smooth dialog going for the past few days and now it is more than seeming like you want to start a soap opera or something for absolutely no reason. Re-read the original comment to you and to which you are harkening. Tell me if there was any condescension in it, exactly where, and reconsider whether it was just good faith surprise followed by advice.

So yeah, yer gonna find some Yankees here and most of us are pissed beyond belief at the last 5 consecutive Presidential administrations. You have obviously rarely read anything I have written about Australia to form such an erroneous view. I am a persistent critic of my own country and its government, leaders, media, and the people that are often gullible to the mainstream media as well.  Probably more than most here. I don’t really care what people say about my country, and generally endorse what people say about it, then even add more since I live here and know more about what takes place.
So I would say you are making up a badly thought out straw man argument.

I criticise America because it is persistently the topic on here – it is in the habit of starting wars and acting with aggression towards other countries or supporting Israel or Ukraine in other threads. Americans also come down here to tell us and our government what to do all the time. They always have.

Personally I am more concerned with the world, not just concerned about where  I live. I’ve lived overseas, learned to speak other languages, travelled significantly and don’t really identify with only Australia. Its a vassal state of the US.

Good comment and exactly what I feel about the “USA” – were you old enough at the time when the US coup’ed Australia through the British monarchy?

What a damned shame. I only learned about that affair when I was in my mid 30s and by then I had already realized that the tripartite “United” States was a major capitalist con job and the world’s pre-eminent state sponsor of terror since before WWII.

I also recognize my 0wn hypocrisy in working for an ‘industry’ that more often than not supports the MIC. But the way this country was (re) designed during the Cold War 1.0 was such that the MIC was foisted on almost every congressional district in the nation.

It will take a major stop-work strike lasting many weeks in the 5-eyes and all of the rest of EU to change anything, and by this point they have the tools of surveillance, threat, “fusion” and suppression to make that VERY hard to accomplish. Thanks in large part to the “utopian” “free market” assholes in Silly-Cone Valley (and of course on Wall Street, K-Street and in “the City”).

Except the “Imams” don’t literally work effectively to control our governments and destroy our constitutionally “guaranteed” freedoms or to spread false info in the aim of fracturing our societies without having to register as foreign agents while their lackeys DO control our governments and militaries and actively seek and work to destroy Muslim societies whose refugees flee to the core of the Empire – not only in any sci-fi book, but in reality – and attempt to rebuild their lives.

You’re a hasbarat. Send your hasbara bullshit elsewhere. If it wasn’t for the Zionist neocons/neolibs and their captured politicians there would be no refugee crisis, open air slave markets in Muslim countries or instability in the greater Muslim world and we could all interact in nationalistic ways that respect differences.

Hard to follow the numbers, I think B must be cleaning up some of the thread.

Tom, I nearly got sent to Vietnam, it was simply that the prime minister at the time Whitlam, and the one before (McMahon) had pulled us out of it before my number went in the lottery barrel.  Whitlam was destroyed IMO by the CIA and Mi6 because he dared question Australia’s involvement in Vietnam and asked questions about the secret bases that were already here. Most of my life I have seen the US as a great country with some amazing musicians, artists, and so many other great people that have contributed to so many other things in the world. It’s the politics that kills it and clearly the deep state behind it and its is getting worse – for the American people as much  as anyone else.

The British did their best to control the country and still do to some extent. Then came the US after WWII. It’s been sellout in one form or another since even before WWII.

My closest friend was from Valeo/ San Fransisco, California. I asked him to be my chosen brother because he was 3 years older than me. He sadly died nearly a year ago. He was an archetypal Hippy of the Haight-Ashbury district and he had a heart of gold. He went through hell back in the Vietnam days with the draft too and eventually moved up to Alaska to get away form it all. He also got busted for one deal of dope back then and got hell for that as well. He met his Australian wife in Alaska and moved here in 1987. Despite being a Hippy he worked hard all his life doing pretty simple jobs like cleaning.

The vast majority of USA voters are imprisoned in their own minds.  Even when they cite their opposition to war, their reasons stem more from concern over selfish reasons like inflation.  Due to many factors including some of their own shortcomings, they anger more over small expenditures or “wedge issues” rather than the enormous underreported MIC expenditures that outweigh everything else.  Further, many of them have personal or family stake in the MIC.  Cue the Upton Sinclair quote.

🛑 Do not worry at all about the weapons arsenals of Iran and the Resistance groups | We produce drones and rockets like cookies!

🔻Abdul Qader al-Karbalai, military deputy of the Islamic Resistance Movement Al-Nujaba:

🔸The strategic reserves of missiles and drones, especially in Iran and in general within the Axis of Resistance, are very extensive, stable, and continuous.

🔸This industry does not take place in large factories or massive facilities with long and complex production chains; rather, this entire process is carried out in simple workshops with fast and low-cost production lines.

🔸To put it more clearly, the production of missiles and drones by the Axis of Resistance is like baking “Kleicha” (a type of Iraqi cookie) that is found in all our homes during Eid al-Fitr!

North Korea Just Overtook the U.S. in Destroyer Construction Rates as Plans For Far Seas Navy Begin to Materialise

North Korean shipyards have overtaken those of the United States in the construction of ocean-going surface combat ships, with the shipbuilding industry having launched two destroyers in 2025, and scheduled to launch two more every year for the next five years under the next Five Year Plan, bringing total numbers in the water to 12 by the end of 2030. The U.S., by contrast, has been building Arleigh Burke class destroyers at rates of just 1.6 per year.

Vietnam braces for flight cuts from April after China, Thailand ban jet fuel exports

Vietnamese authorities have warned the country’s aviation industry to prepare for potential flight reductions from April after China and ‌Thailand halted exports of jet fuel due to the Iran war, increasing the likelihood of shortages.

Vietnam imports more than two-thirds of its jet fuel needs, with 60% coming from China and Thailand, according to documents from the aviation regulator and importers seen by Reuters.

“There are risks of jet fuel shortages for Vietnamese airlines from the beginning of April and the following months,” the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said in a March 9 document sent to the ministry in charge of transport.

It said airlines should review their plans, especially for domestic routes, and instructed airport operators to prepare additional parking space for Vietnamese carriers.

Vietnam has also seen reduced supplies from Singapore, the document showed.

In separate documents viewed by Reuters, major importers Petrolimex and Skypec said they could only guarantee jet fuel supplies for March. Skypec urged the regulator to restrict air transport to essential domestic routes if the conflict drags on.

line graph showing naptha price going from ~550 to ~1050

Shortage of Naphtha Threatens Supply Chain Chaos in Japan

For all the headlines about the looming shortage in crude oil, Japan faces a more immediate hit to its industrial supply chain from a little-known petroleum byproduct.

Multiple Japanese petrochemical firms have announced production cuts in recent days on worries that the Middle East conflict will strain supplies of naphtha, a vital component for plastic manufacturing.

The curbs point to a brewing crisis that could stunt production and pressure earnings across sectors from food to tech. Made by refining crude oil, naphtha’s uses range from plastic bottles to construction materials and electrical appliances. It can also be processed to produce gasoline.

“Markets are not really thinking through the cascading implications of no naphtha supply,” said Mateen Chaudhry, founder and managing director of corporate advisory firm BCMG. “It might be the canary in the coal mine, and unfortunately Japan is very exposed.”

Japan gets around 60% of its naphtha from overseas and relies on the Middle East for over 70% of those imports, according to the Japan Petrochemical Industry Association. That leaves the nation highly vulnerable to shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which have driven up naphtha prices by about 66% since the Iran war began.

Japan also has very few naphtha stockpiles to fall back on. The country holds around 250 days worth of crude oil reserves, but only 20 days worth of naphtha, according to Citigroup analyst Yuta Nishiyama. Even the release of those reserves “does not warrant immediate optimism for the petrochemical industry” as most naphtha would likely be prioritized for gasoline, Nishiyama wrote in a note.

Japan’s Asian neighbors, including South Korea, also depend heavily on Middle Eastern naphtha imports. The US is less exposed because much of its petrochemical industry uses ethane as an alternative.

Tokyo-based oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co. became the latest Japanese firm to announce a cut in its production on Monday in anticipation of a drop in naphtha supplies. The company will curb output of ethylene, which is made using naphtha, at its Chiba and Tokuyama plants, a representative told Bloomberg.

Idemitsu joins Mitsubishi Chemical Group Corp., Mitsui Chemicals Inc. and Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., which announced similar measures last week. Just two weeks into the Iran war, six out of Japan’s 12 ethylene plants have already started reducing output.

‘Trump’s confidence is undimmed – but every Iran option comes with risk’

On Monday afternoon, Trump announced that the US had requested that a planned presidential trip to China in early April be delayed for a month because of the war.

“We don’t need anybody,” Trump said on Monday. “We’re the strongest nation in the world.”

I believe that all is aimed at mitigating the end of hegemony and geopolitical block creation.

The great cleavage proceeds.

They demand a ‘western hemisphere’ whatever the fuck that means?

It consists mostly 5 eyes plus the greater zofacist colonial entity reigning over the crossroads, plus much of Africa, all of South America and plenty of Asia Pacific – a ‘hemisphere’ my arse!

The means of controlling the populations is austerity and division to blame for that pain of being poorer each day.

‘Prices, particularly for housing, groceries and consumer goods, continue to remain high even as the overall inflation rate has dropped over the first year of Trump’s presidency.’

‘If the US involvement in Iran continues to be limited to an aerial campaign, however, Trump has time to regain his political footing. While Americans can be quick to blame the president for higher prices at the pump, their anger tends not to linger if those prices go down.’

My guess is that they will stay up! Its part of the plan to open tyranny and end to fake democracy.

Ah didddums what happened to your radars??

The situation in Iraq as of 17 March 2026 is marked by a severe escalation in hostilities between the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) and U.S. forces, while the relationship between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has reached a critical breaking point.

As of today, the IRI claims to have conducted over 312 operations in the last 13 days. This morning (17 March), they launched their most intense assault to date, using at least five explosive drones against the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

All U.S. forces are expected to leave federal Iraq by September 2026, but most probably will be kicked out much earlier. While the Iraqi government has not “officially” dismantled the Kurdistan Region, on 15 March, Baghdad delivered a stark warning to the KRG: if Kurdish authorities do not prevent armed groups from using their territory to launch attacks on Iran, Iraqi federal forces will move to take control of the KRG’s borders. Baghdad is using the current instability to dismantle the Kurdistan Region altogether, and they will do that. There is significant “accumulated resentment” toward the U.S. occupation.

The refusal of his dear allies to respond to Donald’s demand to help him unblock the Strait of Hormuz. Everyone refused to send ships there. The Germans were particularly vocal. Merz said that NATO is actually a defensive alliance (meaning Iran didn’t attack the United States, but vice versa), and that it’s impossible to liberate the Strait militarily.

German Defense Minister Pistorius made matters worse: America has such a powerful navy that a handful of European frigates won’t be of any use. In short, those who had a grudge against the American president showed their sharp teeth. It seems they want Tehran to win, just to get rid of Trump as quickly as possible.

In thefirst 4 days of the invasion, CENTCOM claimed to have struck 3.000 targets inside Iran, nearly three weeks into this war, the number of strikes reached only 6.000 and CENTCOM did not give an update yesterday on how many targets have been hit, which shows the intensity of operations decreasing significantly. This is not surprising considering the low amount of munitions available at the start of the war and that these stockpiles were used up in the first week (data is available only for the first 96 hours !!)

What is the use of escorting ships through the Strait “after the war ends”?

One assumes that “after the war ends” … the merchant ships will be permitted through the Straits … while all western military ships will be prohibited from entering the region! Iran as sovereign has that right under international law (as I understand it at least), and Iran plans to be in command of these waters from now on.

Actually on second thoughts I think that right only applies fully during war; outside wartime I think foreign military vessels can enter but with restrictions, but Iran may strongarm other countries with litteral shores on the gulf to agree a treaty like the Montreux but tighter that completely prohibits all warships from outside the region unless approved by Iran.

Just as the Black Sea is dominated by Russia (except with Turkey as gatekeeper), so from now on Iran dominates the Persian Gulf – and is the gatekeeper to boot.

 U.S. lost 10% of its MQ-9 Reaper fleet since late 2023 — USAF’s magazine

Use of the Reapers has helped ensure manned U.S. fighters haven’t been shot down over hostile territory, and the losses demonstrate Iran has some ability to damage airborne threats. U.S. Central Command, which is leading the campaign, confirmed MQ-9s are operating as part of Operation Epic Fury, but declined comment on the shoot-downs or the specific role the Reapers are playing.

The Air Force referred questions to CENTCOM. CBS News reported March 9 that 11 MQ-9s had been lost during operations against Iran, citing two U.S. officials.

Houthi rebels in Yemen shot down at least half a dozen MQ-9s last year, and over a dozen Reapers were lost to the Houthis since late 2023. Combined with losses in Iran, that means the Air Force may have lost as much as 10 percent of its Reaper fleet.

The article was published on March 11th and does not take into account all the other MQ-9 Reapers lost since.

The purpose of escorting oil and LNG transports through the Strait.. after the war is over, is to blockade China’s access to oil, gas, or LNG.  After all Trump has said he is going to appoint the leader of Iran and run Iran from the White House so after the war escorts will be used to prevent any oil, gas or LNG from reaching China via the Humuz straits.

If Trump sends boots in after insulting NATO and threatening the Gulf states, the U.S. will be truly alone. If the Strait of Hormuz stays blocked and the neighbours (Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan) refuse to let U.S. troops cross their borders, how do you feed and arm 500,000 soldiers? You can’t run a war of that size purely via air-drops.

When the body bags start coming back to a country already divided by tariffs, high gas prices, and political infighting, the internal collapse in the U.S. would likely happen much faster than it did in the 1960s in Vietnam.

An invasion of Iran the “Mother of all Quagmires.” It would be like trying to occupy a country the size of Western Europe with the population of Germany, all while being hated by the locals and ignored by your allies.

Iran’s accused Milei of crossing an “unforgivable red line” after he stated that the Middle Eastern country is an “enemy of Argentina.”

Milei’s statement:

“We are going to win. I don’t like Iran. They planted two bombs against us, one at the AMIA and another at the Israeli Embassy. Therefore, let’s say, they are our enemies. But I also have a strategic alliance with the United States and Israel.”

Excerpts from the statement in Tehran Times:

“Considering these facts, Iran cannot remain indifferent to the hostile positions of the current Argentine government. The Islamic Republic of Iran, while maintaining full vigilance against these plots, must design a proportionate response to this hostility. The hands of Iran’s enemies are stained with the blood of innocent people in our country, including more than 160 students from the Minab school (recently destroyed by a U.S. missile).”

“Now, Argentina has officially presented itself as an enemy of Iran and has aligned itself with the United States and the Zionist regime in military aggression against our nation. This is an unforgivable red line that has been crossed.”

“Recently, in a speech at a university in the United States, [Milei] explicitly described Iran as an ‘enemy’ and declared that his country’s foreign policy is aligned with the aggressive strategies of the United States and the Israeli apartheid regime against Iran.”

“This, while the Islamic Republic of Iran has never considered the people or the government of Argentina as its enemy. However, it appears that Milei, with this approach and by crossing Iran’s national security red line, seeks to sacrifice national interests and convenience on the altar of the United States and the Israeli apartheid regime.”

Roy K. Altman, a Venezuelan-American lawyer and jurist, who serves as a United States District Judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida on 𝕏:

While speaking about the impact of the U.S. operation in Venezuela earlier this year, I recounted a conversation that I had with Argentine President Javier Milei during the 30th anniversary of the AMIA bombing.

Milei asked me, “What’s the largest Iranian embassy in the world?”

He knows I’m Venezuelan, and I thought maybe China, maybe Lebanon, maybe Iraq.

He said, “No, it’s in Caracas.” And he said, “What do you think they’re doing? They’re not doing trade relations there.”

Anyone who has been in Venezuela over the last 20 years knows that the entire intelligence architecture is Cuban. And anyone who has close friends in the Israeli intelligence community knows that much of the billions of dollars every year that flows to Hezbollah comes through drug trafficking, facilitated mostly through Venezuela.

I think we should hope to see a huge alteration in the way those three geostrategic adversaries are benefiting from the raping and degradation of a country in our own backyard.

Middle East Eye:

Reza Pahlavi’s supporters in Iran are turning against him

The son of Iran’s last monarch has encouraged protesters to risk their lives and stayed silent on civilians killed by the US and Israel

Two weeks into the US-Israeli war on Iran, a growing number of Iranians who saw Reza Pahlavi as an alternative to the ruling establishment say they are losing faith in the exiled opposition figure.

For some, the turning point came before the war broke out, when Pahlavi urged Iranians to rise up against their rulers despite the dangers of a ferocious crackdown.

For others, it is his latest call for demonstrations during the traditional Persian festival of Chaharshanbe Suri, set to be held on Tuesday.

Majid, a 21-year-old student in Tehran, says he no longer sees Pahlavi as a leader.

During the January protests, Majid says he watched a close friend die after security forces opened fire.

“My friend was shot right in front of my eyes,” he said quietly. “I still cannot process it.”

While he blames the Iranian authorities for the killing, he also believes opposition figures raised expectations that never materialised.

“Now he tells people to go celebrate in the streets,” Majid said. “Does he even know what life is like here? People go to sleep not knowing if they will wake up alive in the morning.

“We are afraid every time we step outside that another air strike might hit somewhere nearby. And in this situation he says we should celebrate?” he added.

Pahlavi, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump have all been accused of misleading the Iranian public.

During the January protests, which were sparked by economic woes and spiralled into calls for the fall of the Islamic Republic, the three men hinted that help was on the way for demonstrators.

Yet, other than rumours of Israeli agents encouraging and even arming demonstrators on the ground, the protesters were left high and dry as the security forces moved in.

Federal Reserve to loosen capital requirements for big US banks

Wall Street cheers plans that would water down protections designed to avoid repeat of 2008 financial crisis

A top Federal Reserve official has said the central bank will soon cut capital requirements for big banks as it eases protections that were designed to avoid a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis.

The moves, announced on Thursday in a speech by Fed vice-chair for supervision Michelle Bowman, intensify the push by US regulators to loosen restrictions on Wall Street banks to encourage them to boost lending and regain market share lost to private credit groups.

The Fed’s proposals represent a victory for Wall Street lobbying. In 2023, the Fed announced plans to implement the so-called Basel Endgame reforms in a way that would have resulted in a 19 per cent rise in minimum capital requirements of big US banks.

But the central bank agreed to dilute the proposals in 2024 following an aggressive campaign by bank lobbyists, including TV advertisements during half-time of the Super Bowl warning earlier that year that the rules would hurt American consumers by cutting lending and raising credit costs.

As part of the changes outlined on Thursday, Bowman said the extra capital buffer required for the eight most systemically important US banks would be reduced by lowering the component that accounts for risk from short-term funding. The buffer will also be adjusted for inflation and growth to prevent it rising as bank balance sheets grow.

A handwritten note commemorating Iranian sailors was posted on Ali Larijani’s X account shortly after Israel said it had killed the Iranian security chief in an overnight airstrike. It is not clear when the message was written or who posted it. The message reads:

On the occasion of the funeral ceremony for the valiant martyrs of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy: Their memory will forever remain in the heart of the Iranian nation, and these martyrdoms will strengthen the foundation of the Islamic Republic’s Army for years to come within the structure of the armed forces. I beseech the Almighty God for the highest ranks for these dear martyrs.

Larijani had been seen in public last Friday taking part in Quds Day rallies. Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed his death. After reports of his assassination surfaced in the Israeli media earlier today, Iranian media outlets reported that Larijani would be publishing a message shortly.

That is the ultimate “constitutional crisis” waiting to happen. If President Trump gives a direct order for a massive ground invasion of Iran, and his generals believe it will be a “Vietnam-style” catastrophe, the U.S. military enters a legal and moral grey zone.

Posted by: James | Mar 17 2026 10:52 utc | 697

High-ranking generals (the Joint Chiefs) are trained to “advise” before they “execute.” If they see an order as a suicide mission, they often use bureaucratic friction. They might demand months of “logistical preparation” before a single soldier moves. They could insist on a formal Declaration of War from Congress, knowing that with the U.S. so isolated and gas prices so high, getting that vote would be nearly impossible.

In a “Vietnam 2.0” scenario, you would likely see a mass resignation of top brass. If the Secretary of Defence or the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs quits in protest, it sends a signal to the world (and the troops) that the mission is a disaster before it even starts.

Undoubtedly AI.
Netanyahu’s alleged image is maybe fifteen, twenty (or even more) years younger in it than he is now.

Still think the real him has buggered off to the Zionazi stronghold in Patagonia, where Epstein had already gone.

Trump has publicly claimed the Iranian military is already “annihilated” and “defeated.” If he has already “won,” why does he need to send in 300,000 U.S. troops? Sending boots on the ground would be a public admission that his “Media Manipulation” and AI-generated victory claims were false. His own ego might be the only thing stopping a ground invasion.
