Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

War On Iran: – (Not-) Destroyed Missile Launchers – Seeking Ground War Allies

War propaganda doesn’t change, whoever a conflict is fought with:

Professed success is promoted by doing a countdown towards victory:

The recent war follows the scheme of ever rising enemy losses:

At some point however delusion creeps in:

People start to ask questions:

After Trump’s original plans did not survive contact with the enemy, the media are preparing the public for an escalation towards a ground war:

> President Trump and top aides spent the weekend framing their Iran operation as a resounding military success while imploring other countries to join their effort to resolve a worsening energy crisis related to the Strait of Hormuz.

The Trump administration as soon as this week plans to announce that multiple countries have agreed to form a coalition that will escort ships through the waterway, which runs along the Iranian coast, U.S. officials said. The U.S. and potential coalition countries are still discussing whether those operations would begin before or after the war ends. <

What is the use of escorting ships through the Strait “after the war ends”?

So far there are no takers of Trump’s call for allies. I doubt that there will be any.

The U.S. will have to go it alone. To take a strip of Iranian land north of the Strait of Hormuz with a depth and width sufficient to protect the Strait will require a force of some 100,000 soldiers. The U.S. no longer has such an invasion force nor the means to land it.

That does not mean that Trump won’t try it.

One can hope that the commodity and financial markets will become unruly enough soon enough to stop Trump from bombing Iran ‘a few more times just for fun‘ and from marching towards a ground war.

Within just a few days, the United States working with Israel has destroyed Iran’s military force. Defense systems provided to the regime by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were destroyed, Iran’s fleet of warships was sunk, and its leadership was killed in targeted strikes. The show of force has reasserted the fighting prowess of the United States, and also put a serious dent in the global plans of the CCP.

i’m not making excuses. all of us can see what’s happening in Gaza, etc. but right here in the US where I live, every business, every church, every school, all the rotary and rotisserie clubs, etc., etc., can also see what’s happening in Gaza. and with ICE.

and business just keeps right on moving. why? one reason is BDS sanctions. Isn’t the West trying to do the same vis a vis Israel to the globe? with a high measure of success? plus Yemen and Lebanon aren’t BRICS, so it’s not just those countries you can question. none of them are innocent. it’s business. everyone is calculating his/her/its/their relationship with the God Almighty Dollar. everyone.

Where are all these heavily armed Americans when you need them? Aren’t they specifically allowed to bear arms so that they can stop the kind of shit that Trump is doing now? I see ICE throwing their weight around and unarmed bystanders shouting, but basically allowing them to terrorise communities. The US needs an armed uprising. Now!!

US yes, it is still relevant. Trump might be a loud destructive idiot, but he is not the only one. “Its a feature, not a bug” of US. Same with Israel.
And yes, I keep my opinion that BRICS doesn’t matter at all. Economically, politically, militarily (yes yes, I know its not suppose to matter here), financially and so on. Its enough to see the current conflict between UAE (US/IL proxy) and Iran (2 members). I don’t want to speak further of India, Egypt, Brazil and so on. No point anymore.

it’s overwhelming to think about. but i don’t care what anyone says: Japan’s plastics industry being destroyed is no loss to the world. Farmers in Nebraska won’t need fertilizer for that Dust Bowl they are now living in. too bad. shouldn’t have covered the land in meat cows.

look at what’s happening along the Mississip or the Colorado rivers. The initial poor planning can’t explain the last 60 years of history, when it’s been known the existing system will fail catastrophically, but that hasn’t put a dent in “development” has it? Even now, when it hits 110F in San Diego, not one public figure will dare to suggest: why not stay home from work? not one.

i try to remember there are children involved. cuz, honestly, when i look at Nebraska, or Tel Aviv, or Kiev, i care more about the cows and dogs and horses than the people. we’re all in it together.

The snake has two heads. Israel is America. America is Israel.
America does Israeli bidding because what Israel wants is what America wants.
Israel is a small country with a small economy, America is not. America wages war because it is an imperialist power who has sought control over the middle east for decades and uses Israel as the wedge with which to do this.

Stop bullshitting around. The last war the USA officially declared was WW2. Nobody declares wars anymore. In Russia itself, you can speak of the “war in Ukraine” without getting problems, in public too. And they say SMO because they’re fighting with gloves on. As was explained several times, gloves are off against EU. I don’t hope to see it but Brussels is asking for it in the Baltic sea — perhaps we’ll get to see what “war” means to RF.

Another “victory” for the multipolar world. But I guess, Cuba really needs sanctions relief. 50-60 years of brutal sanctions even though useless UN voted every year to remove them with almost absolute majority of the votes and 0 concrete relief for these people. Even the people that Cuba helped over the years, abandoned them for fear of sanctions.
So yeah, lets keep pretending that US is still not in complete command.

Posted by: JamesBond | Mar 17 2026 17:28 utc | 940

There is too much at stake to think that what the US is doing is based on the thoughts in Trump’s head. Trump is an underling who sold himself to the Epstein Cartel a long time ago.

Trump is just the Carney drawing everyone into the tent while the marauders do their business. The “business” is always out there in view if you step way from the inside of the tent and look. “They” have to put out their marching instructions.

These instructions have been outlined in:
Which Path to Persia – 2009, Brookings Institute
Extending Russia – 2019, Rand Corporation
Pivot to Asia – 2011, Obama administration (general, fluid direction, no concrete white paper style outline)

There’s been ample comments by US govt officials stating that China is the US’s top competitor and threat. Such is what’s going on outside the “tent”.

The “blunder” with Iran really isn’t a blunder IF the aim is to just destroy a country’s ability to influence trade that is a threat to the US/West. Iran is key to Belt And Road. Whether TPTB are going to use this mess to extract legacy military force out of the Middle East is one possible underlying aim but here only time will tell.

They want a big war if necessary and the US public are not seen as being on their side.

That’s also my impression. We have no way of knowing if Pentagon/Washington were hoping that sudden decapitation might work (it’s easy to believe that Trump, Hegseth, Rubio hoped it would) and it is quite possible that Trump was ill-informed about Iran’s inevitable –and well-announced– reaction. But those who instruct the government would know (for example, the think tankers) and so we have to assume that the Iran debacle is intended.

I believe the real goal is to calibrate the level of destruction to the right level. For example, global nuclear war: not good. Total conventional war: sure thing! As I wrote above, EU is almost ready to force Russia’s hand once more, this time by attacking shipping in the Baltic Sea (Sweden seized two ships in March alone). When Russia reacts that can easily lead to another endless war, and sacrificing another unimportant east European country is always an option. As with Team Trump, it’s entirely possible (even likely in my opinion) that Brussels/Paris/Berlin/etc. don’t have proper control over the action and will be genuinely surprised when their move backfires. But finance apitalists have lots of levers to tweak this world war’s temperature.

Yer welcome, Karl.

Yes, you do a lot of boosterism for Russia and Putin, and it takes the form of “here’s what they’re doing right, could we Americans learn something from  them?”.

I say that’s worthwhile boosterism. And you also translate to English and then present to us _what the Russians actually said_.

Not what someone with an agenda wants us to believe, but what they _actually said_.

That is mighty useful, Karl.

Do we occasionally go overboard with rosy-glasses hopium w/r/t Iran, Russia, China — as Fremarz suggests? Yes, indeed we do. So we can take that point from him, right?

And sometime along they way, we Americans will hit a cognitive and informed critical mass – which is exactly what the trolls are trying to prevent — and then the ice will break, the river will flow.

And another thing for the Bar to consider:

In the West we are waaaayyy outside of Kansas (that’s a euphemism for way far from where we were born, comes from Wizard of Oz movie (US classic) , little girl gets swept up in a Cyclone, lands far, far away … not in “Kansas” anymore).

The scales are _rapidly_ falling from the West’s eyes. Tucker Carlson is now being harassed by the Justice Department for “aiding the enemy”. How faaaarrrr we’ve come. All you US people … just think about how strange, how other-worldly that is.

While the planet is being turmoiled by the crazies, the side-effect is that even the snowed-under are starting to wake up. Never seen anything like this in 50 years of following the story. Never.

We’re in a different place now, and it looks like Iran’s going to be the one to lead the Spring ice crack-up (frozen river starts cracking up – big blocks of ice, and it booms when it’s happening).

Just take a step back, and look around you. Did you _ever_ expect to see what’s going on right in front of our eyes?

So get ready for what’s-next. Are you thinking ahead?

As Allen observes @ 46,
“Voting is the adult version of writing a letter to Santa Claus.”

The point of writing letters to Santa Claus is so that the parents could read them before they were mailed and then make appropriate purchasing decisions. Anyone who has children knows that.

Voting is the opposite of that, the candidates present a list to the voters of things that the opinion polls tell them voters might want to receive. Then renege on most of the list after elections.

Ergo: Letters to Santa Claus are useful to both parties, voting not so much.

Tucker Carlson is now being harassed by the Justice Department for “aiding the enemy”.

I don’t follow US domestic politics much, and perhaps you can help me here. Clearly, Carlson isn’t the “good guy”. His prominence and position indicates that there’s an elite faction with aims different than those of neocons and zionists. Is this a new take on splendid isolation? Are there elites (not just ordinary MAGA people) who are in favour of down-sizing the USA. Still mighty but no longer top dog?

I don’t think that’d be a crazy prospect: there will be still plenty of money to make and people to exploit, just one size smaller. This should be a reasonable prospect for some capitalists. Any data welcome!

There must be ‘tools’ for this in this day and age. An automated script or macro to add line breaks/carriage returns (as a variable) through word processing and text ‘notepad’ software.
 Posted by: Tom_Q_Collins | Mar 17 2026 6:51 utc | 621

I don’t think so.
Think about it: how would a script know where it should insert line breaks if it sees a block o’text without any? Unless it’s “smart” enough to figure it out, but I doubt that’s really possible.

No, we need either a better entry dialog or a “preview” function like MoA used to have.

Konami: your characterization of Tucker Carlson – part of elite, his Dad ran Voice of America (propaganda outlet for US), etc. are all on-point, and better yet, your question of “so if he’s now being opposed, that means there’s a fracture among the elite in the US, right?”.

Correct. The Zionists are now well-identified as the lunatics driving the US ship of state right off the cliff. Yes, that message has now entered the public consciousness, and one (of many) key comm channels to get the word out is Carlson.

Carlson goes to great lengths to emphasize his Christian roots, to keep his place among the Religious Right (RR). The RR is the foot-soldiers for the Zionists; it’s their power-base. There’s a lot of them, they populate the Red states (lesser population, less educated rural states) and that’s how the few can control the many. Every state has 2 senators, no matter their population, so it takes relatively little money and suasion to control the Red states .vs. the heavily-populated, more educated, more progressive Blue States.

So when Charlie Kirk, the Prophet of Young Republican Christians started openly agitating against the Zionist branch of the Christian Foot Soldiers, you can see how imperative it was to stop him. Carlson is an older and better established  Charlie Kirk, and he’s a Bigger Problem.

So when you see the likes of Carlson getting viciously vilified by the ADL (anti-defamation league; they are the junkyard attack dogs of the Israel-Firsters) … when that happens, that’s all the evidence you need to see the major political fracture (canyon, more accurately) that’s opened (past tense) in the ranks of the Republican Foot Soldiers.

And now, with  the serial invasions of Ukraine, Venezuela, now Iran … in marked contrast with the political rhetoric used during the last Presidential campaign to “get us out of wars”…. and then Rubio ( Sec. of State) comes out and says “we had to invade Iran because Israel insisted” (actually said that!) … well, that “don’t sit well” with the Republican Foot Soldiers.

and then  Epstein. Yes, it takes a lot of slaps to the head to wake up the avg. American, but man, the slaps have been heavy and constant. Waking up is happening, especially among the younger (20-40) cohort. While we get a lot of repression from above, the sense of quiet seething is palpable. They are indeed waking up.

So I hope that helps give you a sense of motion here in political U.S. Let me know if I left key points un-addressed.

Many thanks for the great explanation, Tom! I don’t put my bets on a proletarian revolution any time soon, so more sane capitalists would be a massive improvement. Just some more realpolitik and no more masters of the universe…

Consider the possibility that some commenters intentionally post a lot of these fakes, along with a lot of real ones, in a conscious effort to elicit exactly the kind of responses that you have communicated here.  Reduce trust in the contents and value of the blog.  Clog it up with fakes.  Waste other people’s time.  Cause exasperation.

A quick AI search shows that the technique is a well-known tactic of internet trolls (just one of many):

  • Misinformation and Hoaxes: Trolls spread false or misleading information, fake news, and conspiracy theories to cause confusion, controversy, and societal division.

I certainly have considered that, and I’m sure it is happening here.

However, in this case, I’m not ready to believe that LoveDonbass would intentionally post such disinfo to clog up the Intertubes here. They’re guilty of all kinds of other shit, but to me that’s still a bridge too far.

Possible, of course, but not likely in my opinion.

I appreciate the feedback.  Since it is a mostly inactive thread now, I will post the full list of that brief AI result about well known internet distruption and  “trolling” tactics.  Hope the formatting turns out ok (preview optio  would be nice).  I think most of these are recognizable on many boards with generally tolerant moderation policies (like this one):

Common Trolling Methods & Tactics

Inflammatory/Off-Topic Posts:  Posting highly charged, off-topic, or nonsensical messages to derail a productive conversation.

Outrageous Claims:  Making false, exaggerated, or conspiratorial statements (e.g., claiming celebrities are clones) to evoke an angry or disbelieving response.

“Sealioning”:  Disingenuously asking endless, “innocent” questions to force a time-consuming, repetitive defense from others, often acting as a “moderate” to lower others’ defenses.

Demoralizing the Opponent:  Instantly dismissing well-thought-out posts as “rubbish” to discourage further participation.

False Flags & “Concerned” Trolling: Pretending to be on a user’s side or posing as a “concerned” party to plant misinformation or damage reputations.Moving the Goalposts:  Changing the argument’s criteria once a point is proven, ensuring they can never be satisfied.Gaslighting & Personal Attacks: Making personal accusations to make individuals feel guilty or question themselves.

Topic Hijacking (Digression):  They frequently make off-topic comments, post memes, or introduce irrelevant, tangential subjects to distract from the main discussion.

The “Hypocritical” Attack: Excessive, often pedantic, criticism of others (e.g., focusing on spelling or punctuation) while ignoring the actual substance of the discussion.

Double Down on Denials:  When presented with facts or evidence, a troll will often ignore them, claim they are “fake,” or redirect to a new, equally absurd point.

Feigning Offense:  Similar to the “victim” tactic, they might twist a comment to claim they are being attacked, in order to seize the moral high ground or gain sympathy.

Psychological and Tactical Goals

Energy Drain:  Their goal is often to provoke an emotional response, draining the time and mental energy of their target.

Disruption:  They aim to divide groups, ruin productive discussions, and make online spaces uncomfortable, sometimes acting as “cyberbullies on steroids”.

Political/Social Agendas:  Some trolls aim to disrupt specific, legitimate conversations on political or social topics.

Attention Seeking:  Trolls thrive on responses, whether positive or negative.

“Lulz” (Amusement):  Many troll simply for the joy of causing trouble or to feel a sense of power.

BRICS is economic, not military. You should know this, though your persistent ignorance about the SMO might indicate a substantial knowledge deficit.

Right – so do you think the US & Israel are currently negatively impacting the Iranian economy?

Sure looks like it to me – and they’re doing so very deliberately.

Shouldn’t the other members of the economic club take some notice of this and perhaps consider economic payback  against these countries?

Posted by: Julian | Mar 18 2026 9:35 utc | 972

@981,
Shh, don’t spoil for LoveDonbass. BRICS is around 40% of the world GDP (on paper) but at the same time, they have no real (economic) power when it comes to some of its members are under siege by external actors. Business as usual. Like with the tariffs. What you mention about the world cup should at least be a minimum of what any sane country will do. But not this BRICS countries.
