War On Iran – Hormuz Escorts, Kurds, Time-frame

A few of the many interesting current developments of the war on Iran that stand out.

Trump has announced that the U.S. will escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz:

US President Donald Trump said he intends to secure shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which is threatened by Iran, including with the US Navy.

“If necessary, the United States Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, as soon as possible,” he posted on his platform Truth Social on Tuesday. “No matter what, the United States will ensure the FREE FLOW of ENERGY to the WORLD.”

Additionally, he has instructed the relevant United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to offer risk insurance and guarantees for all maritime trade in the region. The measure is primarily aimed at energy transport but is available to all shipping companies.

Some 20% of the global supplies of oil, LPG and fertilizers have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had long announced that the Strait would be closed if the country would come under attack. It has held to its promise. A few small ships have since tried to pass through the Strait but were stopped by Iranian strike impacts. Ship insurance companies have stopped to provide cover for any passage of the Strait.

Trump still does not understand the geographic facts of the Hormuz.

bigger

Its open water width. over a length of some 100+ kilometer, is only about 40 kilometer. Its shipping lanes for large vessels are narrow and just 20 kilometer off the coast of Iran.

The usual way for a navy to secure such a passage would be to launch a severe bombing campaign to eliminate all radar and missile positions along the coastline. Only after such a campaign would attempts be made to pass the strait.

But the Iranian landscape along the coast is largely mountainous. There are many shelters to hide anti-ship missiles or drones. Ships passing the Strait can be seen by the naked eye (or through infrared devices during night time.) A swarm of medium range drones would overwhelm the air-defenses of any Navy escort trying to help tankers to pass through the strait. And that is before Iran decides to drop mines into the strait’s waters.

Hoping for escorts to help one to pass the Strait is like hiring body guards when your enemy is known to be a long range snipers. A hopeless endeavor.

I am sure that the Navy will find ways to let Trump know how futile the escorts would be.

Iran has known for a long time that its biggest advantage in a war is the economic damage it can cause. Two of the global long range air carriers, the Emirates and Qatar airlines, can no longer fly to their main hubs in the Gulf states. Sea freight  will also soon be down to a trickle:

Maersk said on Wednesday it is temporarily suspending most cargo bookings in and out of the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia until further notice.

The Jeddah and King Abdullah ports in Saudi Arabia and the Salalah port in Oman remained operational while the shipping group is also still accepting cargo to and from Jordan and Lebanon.

The White House seems to have given little though about the global economic and other damage that its war against Iran would cause.

This can also be seen in the ever extending time-frame for its campaign. What started with a ‘days’, ‘a week’, ‘four weeks’ long campaign has now again doubled:

Hegseth says war with Iran could last 8 weeks

The defense secretary says the timeline could go further than previously speculated. “You can say four weeks, but it could be six, it could be eight, it could be three,” he says. “Ultimately, we set the pace and the tempo.”

Another sign that the U.S. campaign has lacked thorough planning is the late activation of proxy forces for fighting Iran on its own ground:

The CIA is working to arm Kurdish forces inside Iran. President Trump called Kurdish leaders personally over the weekend — and on Tuesday spoke directly with Mustafa Hijri, president of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, whose camps the IRGC had just struck with drones.

The Kurds do, as usual, lack unity and regional backing. Neither Iraq nor Turkey will silently sit by while the U.S. and Israel are forming another armed militia that will eventually threaten their states. Iranian nationalist, including the ones who oppose the Islamic Republic, will not welcome ethnic minorities to take over parts of their nation. For decades the U.S. had propped up Kurds to fight Saddam in Iraq and Assad in Syria. They – in the end – lost in both cases. The U.S. may pretend to prop up Iranian Kurds for a while but chances are high that they will be defeated and left hanging.

The U.S. has also decided to widen the regional reach of the war. A U.S. submarine has torpedoed and sunk an Iranian navy vessel in the Indian Ocean:

A U.S. Navy attack submarine has sunk an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean, the Pentagon has confirmed. Authorities in Sri Lanka had earlier announced they had rescued Iranian sailors from the Moudge class frigate IRIS Dena after what they said appeared to be a submarine attack. This is the first known attack by an American submarine on a surface warship since World War II and the first such action anywhere since the Churchill class HMS Conqueror sank the Argentine Navy cruiser ARA General Belgrano during the Falklands War in 1982.

The U.S. assault on a non-threatening Iranian asset far from the war zone will legitimate Iranian retaliation on U.S. assets world wide.

Comments

How are we going to survive as a species with (1) weapons more and more deadly (2) religious nutcases (3) less and less accountability :

  • “we made a preventive attack to prevent the enemy to be the first to retaliate”
  • “the AI made me do it”
  • “they deserve it, they made the DOW/Nasdaq to go down”

The goal from the outset was a full on, long war, and Washington made sure to get it. The girls school and Khamenei were two early bricks towards that long war.

Not saying you are wrong, but the strategy literally makes less than zero sense.   Long wars of attrition only work if you have the people and materials to attrit.  The USA has neither , and would not be in that position for mid 2030’s at best.  So when to do then?

Zagros Mountains. @4/7 high definition sat surveillance plus drone surveillance and all that hooked into AI. Too many here still in a bygone world. The only way to operate under those conditions is like the Houthi. Just whatever they could carry on foot. Anything bigger than that will be spotted virtually instantly by AI/LLM and destroyed.

– “Tasnim:
The borders of Ilam province are in a state of full security until this moment”

– “A few moments ago, American media, including Fox News, claimed that thousands of members of Kurdish groups were crossing the border of Iraq towards Iran.

An informed security source, while denying this news a while ago, stated: “After America and Israel failed to achieve their goals on the ground, they are now seeking to shake the resistance spirit of our people through psychological warfare.”‘

– “Media Officer of the Alliance of Iranian-Kurdish Parties: Reports of Kurdish Forces Launching Ground Operations Inside Iran Are Not True”

– “Fars News Agency: The headquarters of separatist parties in Sulaimaniyah in the Kurdistan Region were bombed.”

– “Western media hype about a Kurdish attack from the western border is completely unfounded. Iran’s military and security control of the western border is complete, and Israel appears to be respreading disinformation to deceive.

At the beginning of the night, some members of the PJAK group were spotted near the village of Balbar in the Sarvabad district, and some members of Komala at the border of Marivan and the Jurjan area of the Kamyaran district, but no entry into Iran occurred.

An hour later, only four teams of 5 people tried to enter through the Kani Zard and Bard Sabian crossing in West Azerbaijan province, and all of them were eliminated. That’s all that has happened so far on Iran’s western border.

Iran has full control over the enemy’s movements on the northwest and southeast borders, and will thwart any attack before it reaches the border.

In terms of public awareness, even if the news of the Kurdish offensive is untrue on the ground, its publication increases social solidarity and national attention among the Iranian people.

Strategically, the false alarm about the Kurdish offensive shows the enemy’s failure in its military plan.

Increasing vigilance and focus on borders during the coming nights are among the priorities of the work.”

Many ways … if you had been paying attention in recent years … most importantly Trump demonstrated that most of the legacy media are in the tank and report only the stories issued to them. Admittedly, it wasn’t Trump all on his own, but in general the Libertarian/Free Markets type people dragged this into the open while the intolerant leftists wasted their efforts endlessly obsessed over micro-aggression and intersectionality.

Thing is Trump stared them down and said it out loud, “You are fake news.” Then he got support for that, showing that ordinary people know most news is fake. You started getting montage videos of the same two or three lines of BS being read out loud by all the major corporate news channels, all at the same time. This sends a message that sinks deep into the population.

Then … Trump started going after their funding and the NGOs and their political operations. It was only partly successful but the point is now a lot more people understand this could be successful.

Trump also busted their crackdown on free speech and criticism … at least ot is still possible to speak out against the war in the USA … try doing wrongthink in China or Russia and they will shut you down pretty darn quick.

As for the Epstein files … well quite a lot got released, and no doubt more will come. Trump actually supported the release (after a bit of MAGA arm twisting) and now there is an organized and determined movement following this up. The journalists saying “nothing to see here” in their best Frank Drebin voice can’t get traction. That’s an important step … it sure as heck would never have happened under President Hillary.

from the ColonelCassad article:
https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/9908420.html
“High-quality tunnel linings made of high-grade composite concrete are also used at the entrance sites.
The damage caused by conventional bunker buster bombs to such entrance structures is less than often intuitively assumed.”

note from me:  Iran always wins the worlds concrete championship, last times convrete was 20 times stronger than second place, iirc.

However, nuclear strikes on the entrances to such bases could potentially disable them for the remainder of a high-intensity conflict or reduce their value, as they cannot operate their missiles until the damage is repaired.

During conventional attacks on such missile tunnel complexes, excavators and other construction equipment either reopen the entrance within a short period of time or create alternative emergency exits if necessary.

****”
Missile cities capable of withstanding nuclear strikes and continuing launch operations are of the cave-like silo type.
This concept does not require an entry zone or opening large enough for launchers to operate, and instead launches missiles from within a mountain through a vertical shaft, which can be several tens of meters long.
As long as the tube remains clear, launch operations can continue, and the nature of this concept allows it to survive multiple hits from precision nuclear weapons (such as Trident II missiles) and remain operational.

I agree. Logically, when dealing with psychopathy, we cannot assume that there are any conventional moral limitations. Why stop after taking one or two countries? The internal, circular logic of the psychopath sees no meaningful endpoint other than his own self-approval. They stop when they are stopped. Appeals, appeasement, treaties, mass death, nothing matters. Only the unquestionable internal fantasy, the great myth. Greater Israel. MAGA. The unquestionable, absolute right to do anything to reinforce the myth. Nobody, no country, is safe, even the assiduous toadies in Europe are deluding themselves.
It seems to make more sense from a clinical psychology point of view. Who controls the opera, US or Israel? Both. It’s a folie a deux, a shared mythos.

As of early March 2026, the primary religious complaints within the U.S. military center on allegations that commanders are promoting extremist Christian nationalist ideology, specifically by framing military actions against Iran as a “biblically sanctioned” mission to trigger the “End Times”.

Zio-slop.  Christian NATIONALISM opposes foreign involvement in wars, especially in defense of non-Christian nations.  The “biblically sanctioned” “End Times” nutters belong to the judeo-Christians or call them zio-Christians or judaizers.  They are globalists that promote MIGA.  AIPAC and the ADL strongly oppose Christian NATIONALISM since they desire a globalist, cosmopolitan, liberal society where they can swim freely with the mark of Cain upon them, which is why you are seeing this zio-slop to deflect from the insane statements made by Schoefield bible reading, judeo-Christian officers.  Christian NATIONALISTS oppose this war.

How do you know this are HIMARS and other ground launched munitions?
Drones?

Why is there footage of drones and F15s being shot down?

F16, 35 and 18 don’t have the range even with carrying minimum weapons loadout.  Tankers can’t get hear enough, B1, 2 and 52s cannot flyover.

Again, Russian and Pakistani experience in Ukraine and Sandoor are being applied here.

Posted by: UWDude | Mar 5 2026 1:08 utc | 439

The Russian Federation has “air supremacy” over their own territory but some percentage of air attacks still get through. It only takes one hit to set an oil tanker on fire and it’s a really difficult fire to put out after that.

A paradigm shift has occurred.

And though I have no doubt exceptions can be brought forward, I think the following rule would be found generally true: that ages in which the dominant weapon is expensive or difficult to make will tend to be ages of despotism, whereas when the dominant weapon is cheap and simple, the common people have a chance. Thus, for example, tanks, battleships and bombing planes are inherently tyrannical weapons, while rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon – so long as there is no answer to it – gives claws to the weak.

The article you referenced:
“Iran’s 21st-century missile warfare doctrine relies on three core capabilities: ballistic missiles, accurate enough to deliver pinpoint strikes (~50 meters) against key enemy assets.”
In a lot of cases, from looking at the strikes on the IDF airbases during the 12 day war, 50 meters is really about 500 meters.
“Iran’s integrated air defense and its capabilities have reached a technological level that allows it to effectively counter stealth techniques”
This does not seem to be the case.
“In early November 2020, Iran unveiled a new concept for launching and loading ballistic missiles. A high-mobility electric railcar carries five ready-to-launch liquid-fueled missiles, loaded into a semi-automated erector system. It can best be described as a multi-launch carousel magazine loading and launch system, allowing for continuous, parallel loading operations.”
Have these been seen beyond the original November 2020 unveiling?

Every situation has to be taken on its own merits. The Americans are I think bullshitting about the losses they have taken but they are punching a hole into Iran’s western air defenses. Missiles and drone strikes on the Americans and jews have now dropped off dramatically.

Posted by: Peter AU1 | Mar 5 2026 1:41 utc | 449

The race is this: can the US seriously degrade Iran’s ballistic missile force BEFORE the economic catastrophe of $150 Brent comes in to play?  My position is no, but I work on probabilities, not black and white.  Trump will eventually start releasing the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and increase US crude exports.  It will initially calm the markets for a day, and then they will realize it is a desperate move and react.  So the day has gone by and we have ZERO detail about the “escort” BS.  Because it can’t be done.  Trump has a week max.
Iran knows better on how vulnerable their ballistic missiles are.  I’ve seen the “underground city” pics, so they may be chill about it.  IF they are vulnerable, then they need to flatten Israel.  If not, then keep upping the pain level.
As far as the initial strategy, they already told you.  Take out the “crazy mullah” and then the people would rise up and establish a liberal democracy.  Yes, that’s crazy, but it was the same as thinking opposing sanctions on Russia would collapse Russia and replace it with a zio-government.

…oh you mean until iran destroys the zionist tumor?  Easy, when they run out of AA.  However ling that takes.

I know the colonelcassad article shot waves of panic through you by your counterbarrage of stupid questions, but thats ok, the panic attacks will really start to set in once you realize even nuclear weapons will not stop Iran.

1) I’m in the early stages of educating myself on Islam. Can someone recommend to me the best book on its origin, history, branches etc.

2) I was under the impression that Ayatollah Khamenei was the ‘head’ of the Shia branch of Islam. I watched a YouTube video in which Alastair Crooke referred to him as the second most revered cleric. Who is the first?

opposing imposing sanctions on Russia

Anyhow, the interesting question is end game.  Let’s suppose a week goes by and Brent is at $150, or some high number.  At that point the S&P is down 25%, and gasoline is up $2/gal. from before the war, and more important diesel is up $2.50/gal. (they are burning a lot of jet fuel, which is a blend stock for diesel).  The diesel price hike hits broad inflation.  What’s the off ramp?  Don’t know.  The likely target will be to start bombing Iranian de-sal and power plants.  And suppose Iran retains enough of a ballistic missile force to do the same against Israel?  I don’t see an off ramp.

Iran is not Russia. Trump and Beria’s US is not the US of the Obama Biden era. On top of that, the Americans and Jews are utterly desperate.
You’ve been clutching your pearls too much – as in jerking off in anticipation of Iran easily teaching the Americans a lesson and destroying the Jews. I would like to see that too, but this is going to be a bloody hard fight for the Iranians.

Wait and watch. It might be a few days, a week, or a couple of weeks but a ground force will at some point move in to try and take the critical western strip of Iran. The Americans are desperate and for them its a no holds barred cage fight and they don’t give a shit what the world thinks.

I dunno about these super duper Iranian drines. Must be a super duper secret weapon. A bit more seriously though, my thought is Iran has to put as many American boots in bodybags as possible Thats the one thing that will drive opposition in America. Average American or any westerner will hardly bat an eyelid if a girls school is hit with a missile attack in a far off country, but for Americans, American boots coming back in bodybags counts.

Did putin advise Iran to hold on to their weapons and get bombed to smithereens?  Why are China and Russia too cowardly to park their forces in Iran to defend it to the death? Well I know Russia is now too pathetic to do it but China should know that this is an existential threat to their entire existence for the next 100 years. Are they only concerned about their obsession with Taiwan like how Putin was obsessed with Ukraine?   Perhaps Iran should just give up and cede power to the shah to spare themselves

Rybar in English
main events by end of March 4

The fifth day of the war passed without signs of abating. Strikes continue across the entire arc of the conflict — from Iranian territory to bases, ports and infrastructure of US allies throughout the region.

➡In the Persian Gulf strikes on American facilities continue. Bases in Kuwait received another round of missiles and drones — communication facilities at Arifjan and hangars at As-Salim base came under fire.

➡In Iraq pro-Iranian groups increasingly attack American facilities — from Al-Harir base near Erbil to Victoria base near Baghdad airport. In parallel, reports emerge of American special forces being deployed to the An-Najaf desert. In the afternoon, power outages were recorded across the country. The causes cited were Israeli Air Force actions and, surprisingly, hackers.

➡In the Strait of Hormuz several more attacks occurred, with a container ship from Malta heading to Saudi Arabia added to the target list.

➡In Bahrain HIMARS systems have already been deployed, and the country’s authorities officially claim the right to a “proportional response” to Iranian strikes. Effectively, the legal and military basis for entering the conflict has already been prepared.

➡Americans and allies are trying to increase pressure on Iran through the Kurdish factor. In Washington there is increasing discussion of the possibility of using Kurdish groups to pressure the western regions of the country. However, among the Kurds themselves there is little enthusiasm for such a scenario, although on the evening of March 4 rumors emerged of Kurdish formations allegedly entering Iranian territory, subsequently denied.

➡The first air combat occurred over Iran: Israeli Air Force reported intercepting an Iranian Yak-130 with its own F-35I. And a drawn helicopter was also struck by precision munitions.

➡The situation at sea also remains difficult for Iran. US Armed Forces continue striking ships capable of carrying anti-ship missiles — a missile catamaran of the “Shahid Soleimani” type was struck at Bandar Abbas base. Reports also emerged of the loss of the frigate “Dena” off the coast of Sri Lanka.

➡Tensions are also growing on the border with Lebanon. Israeli Air Force operates against Beirut and its southern outskirts, while armored units crossed the border in three places and engaged in combat with Lebanese “Hezbollah” units

📌By the end of the fifth day, the conflict front stretched across the entire region — US bases in the Gulf regularly come under fire, proxies have become more active in Iraq, and attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz are already beginning to disrupt maritime logistics.

I am not happy with POTUS decision to destroy Iran, BUT, the last numbers  I saw was fewer than 50 US congressmen/senators are NOT on the Jewish payroll (AIPAC). Our foreign policy in WA has been dictated by the Jews for decades (with support of the fundamentalist Christians).  I fear that Trump is an Israeli “trojan like” horse. I had hoped otherwise. When the time comes for impeachment, it will be interesting to see how many in congress have the guts to disobey their Jewish masters.

Guys, I’ve a serious question: what would have to happen that the US backs down and retreats in some way or another? what could such a scenario, where Iran is winning, look like?

I could just imagine one scenario: when the US + Israel + allies run out of munitions to directly attack Iran. So a hard physical constraint. How probable is that? I’ve no clue, I’d have thought that they are already running low (even before the war) but it looks like they are pretty confident, incl. EU vassals.

I don’t think that they would back down when just interceptors are running out. I believe they will more likely than back down in such a case do the unthinkable and use a nuke.

According to some reports (unconfirmed?) Iran destroyed a couple of radomes so that would maybe be another hard constraint. When you can’t see anymore you will have to stop/pause in some way.Any other scenarios? Any ideas what would need to be hit to be really crucial? I’m a bit at a loss here…

– Tankers hit by Iranian shore to ship missiles….
– USN Sub attacks on Iranian war ships
– Four IDF F15’s shot down by Iranian AAD – where are the pilots?
– Iranians special forces in eastern Iraq, attempting to convert Shia Iraqi units to the Iranian side in order to attack French and UK units
– Heavy missile strikes on IDF HQ in Tel Aviv and at Dimona
– Carpet bombing of areas of Tehran by the IDF
– Azerbarjani attacks on Iran inspired by Turkey, Iranian missile attacks on Turkey……..
– Iranian attacks all over the Gulf on oil and gas platforms
– Potential for Iranian attacks on stranded super tankers causing untold damage and closure of the Gulf for weeks if not months…….can you picture flaming supertanker wrecks drifting in the Gulf?
– World markets crashing and oil prices spiking……..Black Rock panics……
Chaos engenders more chaos….is this what DJT signed up for when Bibi blew hot air into his ear at the WH?

So you get to final end game.  Using probabilistic thinking,  call it 70% Trump starts attacking Iran desal and power plants.  Iran responds by taking out Israel power plants.  Trump can continue with the barbaric war crimes and hope for an Iranian surrender.  If that doesn’t work, then we get to it.  Trump authorizes Israel to deploy multiple nukes on Iran until Iran opens the Strait.
The, call it, 30% probability is that the US does degrade the Iranian ballistic force enough that the attack on power plants and desal is not met with an Iranian attack on Israel’s power plants.  In which case the US continues with massive war crimes until Iran agrees to open the Strait.  30% is a grab number for illustration purposes.  Probably too high, but it’s not zero.
I guess you have to throw a 1% probability (i.e. 99% not going to happen) that the US figures out a way to open the Strait sufficiently to reestablish oil flow.
There’s also an attack on Iran’s petroleum infrastructure.  That is counter-productive when Brent is at $150.  Throw 1% on that option.

People don’t understand. I have been trying to talk about it, but some have a bias against anything religious that makes them blind to understanding what the Shia are thinking.

There will never be a peace or surrender. Iran won’t stop until Israel is erased and America is nowhere to be found in West Asia.

Normally, Islam preaches compassion, peace, and respects both negotiation and surrender.

But killing Khameini has started an End of Days Holy War. The Iranians will not stop for all the gold in the world. The Shia won’t stop if Trump commits seppuku publicly in apology.

There is no way out, there will be no negotiations, there will be no forgiveness. The Great Satan will be extinguished from this world.

That is what the Iranians and now the Iraqis in Jihad are thinking. That is what a lot of Sunni Muslims are starting to think, too. 300 million Shia in the world, and Khameini was like a father to all of them.

“Based on the way the negotiation was going, I think they were going to attack first. And I didn’t want that to happen.”
So it’s diplomacy for paranoid dingbats?
The origin story of this four-day-old war keeps getting revised. Two days ago, the Secretary of State’s explanation was that Israel had whistled and we had come running obediently. But that was a bit too humiliatingly on-the-nose. Hence the latest explanation which is, literally, that Trump knew in his gut the Iranians were about to attack!
No evidence has ever been offered that the Iranians were about to attack.
But the entire White House Administration is dutifully parroting this nonsense about Trump’s “strong feeling”.
“The bottom line is this: The president determined we were not going to get hit first. It’s that simple, guys,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt offered the priceless summation that “the president had a feeling — again, based on fact — that Iran was going to strike the United States.”
