War On Iran: Energy War Moves From Disruption To Destruction

The war on Iran continues to be the most important issue currently moving the world.

Israel and the U.S. are continuing their assassination campaign of Iranian officials. It was confirmed today that Ali Larijani, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed by an Israeli airstrike on the house of his daughter. The strike caused several dozens of additional casualties. Larijani was a highly capable pragmatist, not a hardliner. His death is a loss for everyone who seeks peace in the Middle East.

Two of the leaders of the Iran’s voluntary Basji militia were also killed in Israeli airstrikes as was Iran’s Minister for Intelligence, Esmaeil Khatib.

None of these deaths will lower Iran’s will or capability to resist. It knows that it has is able to throttle the global economy via its control of the Strait of Hormuz and thus has the upper hand in any long term conflict. A some point the U.S. will have to agree (archived) with Iran’s end-of war conditions:

Iran’s strategic objective now is to impose such high costs on the United States and the Gulf states that Trump will opt for a cease-fire that includes a restriction on future Israeli actions. In essence, Iran wants to force him to choose between Israel’s security interests and the stability of global markets. The bottom line is that the war Trump started has no good ending.

Yet Israel today does not feel bound by any restrictions. It has just launched an attack, with U.S. backing, on Iran’s major South Pars gas field and other Iranian energy installations:

Israel has just bombed Iran’s largest natural gas processing facility in Bushehr Province. Israel stated that it conducted this attack in full coordination with the United States.

The attack is consistent with Israel’s strategy of aiming to destroy not only Iran’s military and military industries, but also its industrial base and its economy. Israel’s objective is not regime change but state collapse.

In this particular case there is I believe an additional motivation behind the Israeli attack. Iran has repeatedly indicated that if its energy infrastructure is attacked, this crosses a bright red line and that it will retaliate with attacks on energy infrastructure throughout the Persian Gulf.

If Iran does indeed respond in this manner, the prospects of direct participation in this war by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states increases significantly. This is exactly what Israel would like to see, and would also explain why the US, which previously counseled against such attacks, now supports them and participates in their execution.

This attack is not only a demonstration of US-Israeli capabilities, but also of US-Israeli strategic failure and arguably of growing desperation as well.

Iran’s gas production is mostly used domestically. Its electricity production largely depends on its gas infrastructure. The strike is also a hit against Turkey which receives 15% of its gas consumption from Iran.  Iraq will be hit hard too as its electricity production also depends on Iranian gas. A spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Qatar condemned the attack.

The most rational response for Iran will be to hit Israel’s energy infrastructure. Strikes on Haifa and Israeli gas facilities will come too but Iran’s immediate response, as promised, were evacuation orders for five energy installation in its neighboring Persian Gulf countries:

🔸SAMREF Refinery – Saudi Arabia
🔸Al Hosn Gas Field – UAE
🔸Jubail Petrochemical Complex – Saudi Arabia
🔸Mesaieed Petrochemical Complex & Mesaieed Holding (Chevron-affiliated) – Qatar
🔸Ras Laffan Refinery (Phases 1 & 2) – Qatar.

According to Bloomberg the facilities are being evacuated. Energy prices in the commodity future market have risen in consequence of the strikes even though they are, due to manipulations, still much lower than real world prices (archived):

The growing disruption to supplies has driven a number of regional price benchmarks to all-time highs, even as global marker Brent has fallen back to just above $100 a barrel after jumping to nearly $120 in the early stages of the Iran war.

The price of a barrel of oil in Oman — which exports from ports outside the Strait of Hormuz — soared to nearly $154 on Tuesday, driven by intense competition for the small volumes still leaving the Middle East.

“Right now it feels like the paper and the physical market has dislocated,” said Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank. “[This is] the biggest disruption since the 1970s and Brent can barely hold above $100.”

The $100bbl is for light sweet crude while the market needs heavier variants as well as processed products:

Current spot prices for gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel on the West Coast appear unhinged at $147/bbl; $162-$170/bbl; and $186/bbl until one considers that refiners in China, India, Japan and South Korea face physical crude costs that top $150-$155/bbl.

The strike on energy facilities in Iran has opened another level on the economic front of the war.

Blocking ship from passing Hormuz is disruptive. Striking energy facilities is destructive.

It will take a long time to repair the damage.

May have been pointed out earlier in thread, which I have not read yet, that Iran shares with Qatar the LNG site that was hit today.  Matter of fact, Qatar owns 2/3 of it and Iran 1/3.  So this was an Israeli/US strike on Qatar.

b points out in his post above that “Israel has just bombed Iran’s largest natural gas processing facility in Bushehr Province. Israel stated that it conducted this attack in full coordination with the United States.”  (So you know what I am talking about.)

I found this on dropsitenews:

Israel target Iranian offshore gas field: Facilities associated with Iran’s massive offshore South Pars natural gas field came under attack Wednesday, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency. Iran shares the offshore field with Qatar. Israel carried out the strike, which was “coordinated with and approved by the Trump administration,” Israeli officials told Axios. Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned Israel’s attack as “a dangerous and irresponsible step,” warning that “targeting energy infrastructure constitutes a threat to global energy security, as well as to the peoples of the region and its environment.”

Apparently the fire destroyed 600 sleeping quarters and the US had to transfer 1000 mattresses and spare clothing from some other ship.

It was one very big fire. Three options: hit by missile, 2 monumental carelessness possibly induced by combat stress, sabotage.

And after 4+ years of Washington DC arming Ukraine and costing the lives of tens of thousands of Russian servicemen, this would be the perfect opportunity for Putin to repay the favor. But no…the Russians will only “condemn” and “call for peace” and “express outrage”…all words and no actions. So they give Iran intelligence…big deal. Washington has done far, far more than give Ukraine “intelligence”.If the USA fought a war against Mexico and another state was actively providing Mexico with arms, supplies and funding, that state would be absolutely flattened by the Pentagon. No doubt. But as is painfully obvious now, Putin and the Kremlin are afraid of the USA’s military.

The USA informed Iran that they consider their military objectives achieved and are preparing to exit the conflict soon, noting that Israel still has some operational tasks to complete before its withdrawal from the war.

However, Iran completely rejected this message, stating that it is not interested in its content and will continue the war until it achieves its own long-term goals aimed at preventing the recurrence of such conflicts.

It is emphasized that even in the event of the USA and Israel’s withdrawal, Iran will continue its actions until its goals are fully achieved, and any departure of Washington and Tel Aviv does not impose any obligations on Tehran.

My observations support all missiles, ballistic or hypersonic, have a very limited impact radius.  Almost as if one was not directly at the impact site within 100 square meters, the damage would be minimal.  Unless of course a fuel or ammunition site was hit.

For any significant result the projectile would need to possess a significant warhead, none of which we’ve observed in either Ukraine or the Middle East.

Precision  targeting is great for assassinations (wondering about Bibi) but for massive destruction culminating in surrender something greater is required.  Even after two years of bombing leaves Palestine essentially intact.

I suspect the majority here are expecting something dramatic culminating in a conclusive victory.   The theater will continue until we are all digitally enslaved.  But the show is great ain’t it?

AFAIK the first Western analyst/historian to enlighten American readers (if they read him) on the underlying reason for the “necessity” to invade Iraq in spring 2003 was Immanuel Wallerstein.

In February 2003, at the Peace March in NYC, I was interviewed by a Dutch film documentary crew as to my reasons for traveling to NYC to protest. This gave me an opportunity to state Wallerstein’s view, which was that the actual trigger for the invasion of Iraq was Saddam’s opening a euro-based oil exchange in Iraq. One of the first actions by the Americans after they gained some control in Iraq was to shut down this euro-denominated exchange.

🇮🇱🇺🇸⚔️🇮🇷 300 unexploded American/Israeli enemy bombs are in Iran’s possession

After 20 days of the imposed war, the dimensions of the defensive and offensive power of the parties have become fully apparent.

In the defensive domain of the Zionist-American coalition, a significant volume of their base load and missile reserves have been used.

In the offensive domain, a considerable part of the enemy’s missile capability has been consumed due to the increased volume of fighter operations instead of downed drones in the combat organization of the US and the regime. Iran’s defense has shown strength in destroying enemy drones.

Follow-up by Fars reporter and analysis of military analysts’ reports indicate that so far more than 300 enemy bombs and offensive missiles against the territory of Islamic Republic of Iran have not exploded.

Most of the defective bombs are from the mk80 family with warheads weighing 44 to 480 kilograms, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and AGM-158 JASSM missiles.

By acquiring this volume of unexploded bombs, Iran can use the technology of these weapons in future wars.

Investigation into the reasons for this event shows that the main cause of the failure of these multi-million-dollar bombs from the US and the regime is due to defects in the production of explosive fuses and Iran’s extensive electronic warfare.

Images published on social networks indicate that the manufacturing year of some of these bombs was 2013 and 2014, and the unpredictable prolongation of the war has forced the American-Zionist coalition to use older generation missiles due to the depletion of new generation ammunition reserves.

The reduced accuracy of the missiles hit and the significant volume of unexploded ammunition confirm this claim.

The widespread publication of images of this ammunition on social networks, the strange impacts on street asphalt and adjacent buildings, challenge the enemy’s official narrative about the “very high” accuracy of its attacks.

Global bottom-up resistance to top-down Epstein class management of the nation state system is getting more and more obvious.   Its spotty, often not persistent, but everywhere it is appearing, in one form or another, like spontaneous fires in a water starved forest?
..
The narrative that guides resistance is not yet uniform.. but you can see it in bottom-up social media  posts, you can see it in groups organized to resist in different local places, you can see nation state leadership responding by twisting the truth, preaching misinformation and filtering access to the truth.  You can see it in who, why, when and how nation state leaders chose to punish those who speak out.    Most resistance is classified as local grievance, but many local disturbances have the same base grievance: more butter and fewer guns.
..
Few realize their grievances  are differentiated only by the context in which their local conflicts appear.  In nearly every instance its top-down guns to kill more people with vs more butter for the masses to cook with.
..
What precipitates rebellion seems on the surface to be different in different places; but the grievance, stripped of its context, finds look alike similarities?
..
I predict the emergence of a global bottom up resistance leader coupled with the development of a globally distributed, boundary and language transparent, international organization, devoted to  empowering bottom-up grievance assertion power.
..
I suspect many local rumblings  are primed for sudden merger into a globally coordinated effort designed to throw the bums out.  The girls are anxiously waiting for the masses to hear the words “Panty Raid“.
..
History shows, throwing the bums out just replaces the old bums with new bums?  Generally revolutions fail for lack of post coup survival planning?    Its easy to throw the old bums out, its difficult to prevent a new set of bums from developing old habits.

It is indisputable that the British government felt they were in debt to a particular Jew: Chaim Weizmann, subsequently the first president of Israel.
In 1914, and a little like Trump today, the British were drawn into a war they had not prepared for. By 1915 and forced to expand their tiny army into millions they were faced with a critical ammunition supply. The Germans, at that time the worlds leading industrial chemists, had no such problem. Enter Weizmann who developed a bacterial fermentation process to produce acetone and butanol from maize. Acetone was a key ingredient of cordite, which was the propellant the British Empire had built their cannon and rifles for. The industrial scaling of this process ensured Britain could carry on the war without interruption.
It is alleged that Lloyd George asked Weizmann what reward he wanted for his services. Whatever the truth of this, it is apparent that Weizmann was held in high regard by both George and Balfour.

Senate Democratic Leader, Chuck Schumer, calls on Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth and State Secretary, Marco Rubio, to testify under oath about the war with Iran, the goals and the exit strategy.

Before the war began, sources close to Schumer’s congressional staffers told that Schumer and a large number of Democrat politicians support the war with Iran even if in public they may say they are opposed to it, hoping to see Iran be destroyed and at the same time, see Donald Trump and the GOP’s odds in the Midterms ruined.

In other words, the Democrats wanted a war with Iran but didn’t want to be the ones calling in the first strike. They wanted Trump and Hegseth to take the blame.

Hardly anyone speaks English in those Cantons although more do today that when I lived there. I had to learn French. It was hard but it also taught me a lot coming originally from isolated Australia. Opened me up to other cultures as well. Given I’ve been back there many times, Switzerland or Suisse is like a home from home. It’s weird: getting on the jet here leaving home and then arriving home in Switzerland again. We had Rösti and Gruyere for dinner last night! Never learned to yodel though.

In a video recorded about a month before her death, Shoshana Strock, daughter of an Israeli minister, appealed for protection, saying: “Following the recent assault… I must have people with me 24/7… Help me find support that would make it better for me and prevent me from being harmed again.”

The video, reportedly withheld from publication over concerns for her personal safety, shows Strock describing repeated assaults by her father and being forced out of her apartment.

Strock was later found dead while staying in a hideout in the northern settlement of Amirim. Israeli media reports claimed she died by suicide at a “holiday apartment in the Galilee,” despite growing questions surrounding the circumstances of her death and prior pleas for help.

Australians have always been good military servants first to the English and then the US. Many Australians have little idea of the history behind WWI and WWII and the politicians exploit that. They think the US came to save them in WWII. I did not know we had a contingent force in Dubai until recently. Our government already sent aircraft and missiles and even avoided any discussion in parliament to do it. They helped out in Ukraine too.

We have a two party political system in Australia like the US, the only difference is that there is preferential voting which allows independents and smaller parties to get representation in government and pull votes away from the bicameral majors. The current government is the good cop version and the opposition is the bad cop version but both bow down to the ones they serve ie. US and UK.

The current party was the one that produced Whitlam back in the 1970s who pulled Australia out of Vietnam (which was actually started by the former party under McMahon) and he asked questions about why US bases were here and what they were doing. That was what very quickly led to his dismissal via the UK  representative, the Governor General, and CIA (it is believed), at the time.  Last time the current Labor party opposed a US led war was on the eve of the war in Iraq. Since then they have caved in to AUKUS and supporting other US bases and US military housing being built in Australia.

The only good sign recently is that they refused to join Trump’s coalition to break open the Hormuz which surprised me! Trump was furious.

Australians like Americans don’t get a say in any of this and I was appalled when Labor (the incumbents) supported AUKUS again after being elected and replacing the (economic) Liberals who are now the opposition.

MOSCOW, March 18. /TASS/. Moscow is currently considering whether it should proactively stop supplying energy resources to the European market, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“As far as the order from the President [of Russia Vladimir Putin] to consider the possibility of an early withdrawal from European gas markets is concerned, this issue is under consideration, requiring a fairly in-depth analysis,” he told a briefing. The energy market is currently experiencing serious turmoil due to the war around Iran, Peskov noted. “And, of course, these upheavals make it difficult for everyone to predict market trends. Therefore, an in-depth analysis is currently underway, considering all the specifics of the current situation,” he added.
Putin said earlier that the Russian government had been tasked with assessing the feasibility and advisability of halting energy supplies to the European market, adding that starting April 25, EU countries planned to impose additional restrictions on the purchase of Russian hydrocarbons, including LNG, up to a complete ban on such supplies in 2027.
In this regard, it may be more advantageous for Russia not to wait until the door is ostentatiously slammed in its face, but to redirect supplies to more interesting destinations now, Putin noted.

US Vastly Underestimating the Cost of Iran War

https://www.rt.com/news/635420-iran-war-cost-estimate/

“The final cost of the Iran war to Americans taxpayers is being underestimated by officials and could balloon into the trillions of dollars over the long term, the Intercept has warned.

Lawmakers expect the administration to add at least $50 billion to the $1.5 trillion War Department budget request for fiscal year 2027.

US national debt is approaching $39 trillion, up from $38 trillion last October, according to Treasury data.

This week, Joe Kent head of the US National Counterterrorism Center, resigned in protest against the Iran war. He said that contrary to Trump’s assertions, Iran ‘posed no imminent threat to our nation’ and that the attack was launched ‘due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

Posted by: John Gilberts | Mar 18 2026 23:39 utc | 360

The Economist:

Omani FM writes “The American administration’s greatest miscalculation, of course, was allowing itself to be drawn into this war in the first place. This is not America’s war, and there is no likely scenario in which both Israel and America will get what they want from it.”

Al Busaidi calls on America’s friends “to tell the truth. That begins with the fact that there are two parties to this war who have nothing to gain from it, and that the national interests of both Iran and America lie in the earliest possible end to hostilities. This is an uncomfortable truth to tell, because it involves indicating the extent to which America has lost control of its own foreign policy.“

He adds “it should now be clear that for Israel to achieve its stated objective will require a long military campaign to which America would have to commit troops on the ground, opening a new front in the forever wars which President Donald Trump previously vowed to end. This is not what America’s government wants. Nor do its people, who certainly do not see this as their war.”

Foreign minister balfour draw up the so called balfour declaration . . .
Posted by: Nisses | Mar 18 2026 22:24 utc | 314
===========
Balfour signed the Declaration. However, a great deal of work—backing-and-forthing among different ministries and other interested parties—went into the wording of the Declaration. Within the British govt the idea of such a Declaration, of such a gift to Rothschild and the Jews, was very controversial.
It is not Balfour’s words.

AI Overview:

“Yes, the 1917 Balfour Declaration was controversial within the British government, facing significant internal opposition
. While it aimed to secure wartime support, critics—notably Edwin Montagu, the only Jewish Cabinet member—feared it would encourage anti-Semitism and undermine the status of Jews in other countries.
Key aspects of the internal controversy included:

  • Opposition from Edwin Montagu: As Secretary of State for India, Montagu argued against the declaration, labelling Zionism a “mischievous political creed” and arguing the proposal was anti-Semitic in its potential results.
  • Divided Views: While approved by Lloyd George’s government, the declaration did not have universal support within the British establishment, with some seeing it as a, perhaps, dangerous shift.
  • Modification of Terms: Due to the internal backlash led by Montagu, the original draft of the declaration was modified before being issued to weaken its wording regarding a Jewish state.
  • Conflicts with Other Promises: The declaration was seen as contradicting other promises made by the British regarding Arab independence in the region, creating further dilemmas for British officials, according to some analyses.

Despite this opposition, the pro-Zionist faction, led by figures like Lloyd George and Balfour, prevailed in the cabinet.”

I think the aims of the ‘Israeli’ leadership are relatively clear: mass murder, land grabs and the annihilation of their opponents, much like those of the German Reich in the 1930s and 1940s. What seems less clear to me, however, are the aims of the various big-money groups that steer US American policy.

Trump himself may not have a plan, but then again, he is not president to have one; rather, he is there to conceal the objectives of those who actually hold power as effectively as possible. And if the result of the war will be too bad for the aggressors, he can easy be blamed and exchanged.

One objective of the unprovoked US American war of aggression against Iran is evidently the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, in order to cut China off from a further portion of its energy imports. Brian Berletic made similar comments on 17 March at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRaB3-ShxGk, with the main points from minute 39 onwards.

Another objective could be the collapse of the global economy and the financial system underpinning it, so that afterwards, at least the Western bloc and its allies can impose a new system on the population – one that is unlikely to be quite so favourable to them/us.

And thirdly, I fear that US American and/or global interest groups wish to escalate their war against the BRICS states to the nuclear level, using ‘Israeli’ nuclear bombs, of course, and are quite prepared to sacrifice their proxy ‘Israel’ for the complete destruction of the Middle East.

In any case, it seems to me that 2026 will be the year in which we will be presented, on a silver platter, with much of what opposition figures have so far outlined as their fears for the coming years.

Unfortunately, not a pretty picture…

@Bruce O’Hara

Palki Sharma is reflexively pro zionist and WION is habitually antiChina and Islamophobic, so if she’s gone against Trump it’s because she has no choice, and if she has no choice it’s because the public mood in India is increasingly furious about Modi, nazinyahu, and Trump’s war.

Meanwhile Epsteinistani mercenary Matthew van Dyke and six Ukrainian nazis were arrested in India when they went to train Myanmarese “rebels” (western proxies) and the Indian media en masse declared that it is part of a nefarious American plot to break away North East India, eastern Bangladesh, and western Myanmar to create a new Christian country. That’s absurd to me,  much more likely that Epsteinistan just wants its Myanmarese regime change project (which is slowly but systematically being wiped out, which is why you don’t hear about it) to not fail completely.

The point is that instead of focusing on that, the India media* is all together blaming Epsteinistan for a nefarious strategy aimed at India.

Looks like the Trump-Modi love affair is over.

*where did you get the idea that India has no “government media”? Except for a few exceptions like the Hindu group of newspapers and magazines, Modi controls the entire Indian media. Modi even faked tax cases against the owners of major hitherto neutral channel NDTV to force them to sell the channel to Modi’s oligarch crony Adani, after which the fake tax cases were dropped.

Thanks Ahenobarbus.  Here’s something I found in Herodotus about some “Syrians who dwell in Palestine” and who practice circumcision (2.104) like the Phoenicians.
Herodotus is discussing Egyptian Sesostris subduing the region, and leaving pillars to recognise those enemies who fought valiantly but lost. (2.102.4.)
But for those enemies who gave up without much fighting he setup a pillar with “hidden parts of a woman, desiring to signify by this that the people were cowards and effeminate“. (2.102.5)
https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0126%3Abook%3D2%3Achapter%3D102%3Asection%3D5
” καὶ δὴ καὶ αἰδοῖα γυναικὸς προσενέγραφε, δῆλα βουλόμενος ποιέειν ὡς εἴησαν ἀνάλκιδες.”
a female vulva inscribed, to show them as they were” is close I think.
Herodotus says he saw one such remaining pillar with the emblem :

§ 2.106 “As to the pillars that Sesostris, king of Egypt, set up in the countries, most of them are no longer to be seen. But I myself saw them in the Palestine district of Syria, with the aforesaid writing and the women’s private parts on them.”

Checking my hard copy of Herodotus in the Britannica Great Books I note that the key section 2.102.5 is glossed over to just say “… an emblem to mark they were a nation of women, that is, unwarlike and effeminate.” 2.106 merely has “the emblem“.

So, Herodotus called these people ‘cowardly cunts’, but it’s glossed over for modern readers.

I have some Indian friends who signal to me that the mood in India is also against Modi and they were very maddened by his outward demonstration of support for Netanyahu and visit to Israel just before the war broke out. The ones I know are actually in support for Iran rather than Israel and US.
No doubt Modi is a bit of a turn coat concerned about oil and gas and sanctions, but I think he’d be better off making it clear that he is on the side of BRICS countries if he wants India to have a better future.
