Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

War On Iran: “And then? What?”

Trump’s latest outburst, intended to cool the market, issued about an hour ago:

The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran. Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business,” we will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet “touched.” This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year “Reign of Terror.” Thank you for your attention to this matter.

President DONALD J. TRUMP

Fitting:

Cartoon via Rob Campbell
A relevant and revealing response to any of Trump’s proposed actions is: “And then? What?”

From the latest War Update by Hamidreza Azizi:

Iranian planning is no longer centered on absorbing strikes but on shaping the battlefield in advance. A concept described as “preemptive destruction” is emerging, involving continuous targeting of U.S. bases, logistics hubs, and staging areas in countries such as Kuwait and Bahrain to disrupt any potential ground or heliborne operation before it can be executed.

“…but why is that so? How it happen?

My own view is that my generation of ‘boomers’ here in the ‘golden billion’ who knew then how evil, murderous, crooked and power mad was the system of ‘the man’, and who could and should have organized and mounted a mass struggle to overturn it here in the belly of the beast far easier than now, instead chose to ‘follow their bliss’ and ‘put money in thy purse’. Overall a generation of sellouts, leading to the ghoulish grotesquerie of Western leaders we now enjoy.  Now it has all been left primarily to the young and the victims of western imperialism to shed the blood and try to put things right.

Thanks for your reply. The situation appears to be dire, yet Lavrov continues to be a voice of sanity as he demonstrated in his remarks to a meeting of the members of the Russian International Affairs Council today, which has yet to be translated into English by the MFA.

One thing that is striking to me personally is how much more grown up and measured the figures who represent the rogue states compared to our own puerile public figures. The one thing everyone in my life who believe that Vladimir Putin and the entire Russian government are deranged fanatics have in common: they’ve never actually sat down and read an untruncated translation of any of their speeches or addresses.

IRGC vows to target US tech companies following terrorist acts in Iran
👉 Iran has named 18 US tech firms, including Microsoft, Google, Apple, Intel, and Boeing, as legitimate targets for retaliation strikes starting from the evening of Wednesday, April 1.
The US’ ICT and AI companies play a key role in the planning and implementation of assassinations of Iranian people, the IRGC added.

  • Thuringia 2024: Kemmerich. A valid in-parliament election undone by order of Merkel.  …

Bottom line: supporting lefty populists like Wagenknecht, Corbyn is alright. Just never get your hopes up. Don’t expect change from votes.
Posted by: Konami | Mar 31 2026 11:46 utc | 685

Yes, that was indeed highly undemocratic that Kemmerich who got 5.4 % for the neoliberal FDP wasn’t allowed to become minister president of Thuringia. Could happen again in the future just to keep any realistic progre ssive voices out.
Didn’t know you were German Konami, but yes SST had quite a few Sahra Wagenknecht fans.  She’s got a good mind, but her special Querfront Approach plus initially staging herself as the party itself, tells you all you need to know. And strictly, I wasn’t a fan of her husband either, another populist. And yes, since you mention it, her early post-Stalistic posture in politics made me sick too. Sloganeering.

Iam a Yankee vis a vis the U.S. “south!
I once had the pleasure of assigning an employee named Sherman to a project we had in Georgia,

The depredations of Sherman’s “bummers” on a small part of Georgia are highly exaggerated.

All of Georgia away from Atlanta and the route to Savanna were left pristine.

There are rumors circulating that Iran has informed the Arab sheikhdoms on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf that if attacks on Iran’s infrastructure continue, the port of Fujairah in the Emirati sheikhdoms and other facilities used to bypass the Strait of Hormuz in the region will be leveled to the ground.

Posted by: Framarz | Mar 31 2026 16:22 utc | 809

@784

Sherman’s army after capturing Atlanta moved too fast for its supply trains.  The “bummers” sent out to forage food stuffs and fodder.  Foraged provisions is as old as man killing man for the tribe.

The economy of the states in rebellion were more damaged by blockade and ecomic failure not resulting from Federal arms.

Yes, that was indeed highly undemocratic that Kemmerich who got 5.4 % for the neoliberal FDP wasn’t allowed to become minister president of Thuringia.

Please don’t get me wrong: the FDP is a joke, now even more than back then. I usually don’t vote and I never voted for a mainstream party. The point of my list (starting with Kemmerich) was that Western liberal democracies are happy to break their own rules, if necessary. Kemmerich was elected as Landespräsident following protocol but, and that caused Merkel’s order, with votes from the AfD. “Liberal democracy” is a sick joke.

Truly un-fun fact about German FDP: Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, member of EU “parliament” for FDP, military lobbyist and one of the loudest warmongers in German, had to say this on March 16 in some talkshow: “Iran is the world’s plague spot.” (German: “Der Iran ist die Pestbeule der Welt.”) If you replace “Iran” <–> “Jews”, you can find equivalent statements from Third Reich. The desire to dehumanise the enemy at all costs (rats are also popular, see Pete Hegseth) runs deep with fascists. Why I write all this: there was no outcry. This language is acceptable in polite German society, from a popular member of the “liberal” party FDP.

Where are Israel’s most important pharmaceutical companies and what do they produce?

The Zionist terrorist regime attacked Tofigh Daru in Alborz Province this morning, which plays a crucial role in producing medications for patients with special diseases and cancer patients.

▪️ Which targets are now completely logical and legitimate for Iran? Some options can be listed as follows:

▪️ Israel’s pharmaceutical industry is concentrated in cities such as Petah Tikva, Haifa, and Jerusalem, with companies like Teva, Perrigo, and Pluristem playing the main role.

▪️ These companies produce a wide range of products—from generic drugs, cancer and MS medications to general pharmaceuticals and supplements.

▪️ In the field of medical equipment, technologies such as endoscopic capsules and devices for diagnosing heart conditions and sleep disorders are also produced.

▪️ At the regional level, companies in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, linked to Western investors, are active and produce generic drugs, insulin, and medical equipment.

The attire of the signatories at Lee’s surrender is a 19th century example of political ‘optics’. Of course Lee wore a spiffy uniform and rode a fine horse: he was surrendering, and trying to do it with dignity. The Union generals looked like they had been ‘rolling in mud.’ For them the war had been a filthy, brutal necessity. Dressing up would have diminished them.
One other note: the Kornbluth story is titled The Marching Morons.

John Helmer in his talk with Nima didnt bring up the possibility that the US might want to let Iran retaliate by destroying the Gulf hardware so the region will be unable to provide China with 15% of its fossile resources. Therefore he is upset by China only condemning the US and Iraels attack but doesnt defend Irans right to defend itself. From this angle the different behaviour of Russia and China makes a lot of sense.

All reasonable.
But there is no one to enforce reasononableness.
So, Iran definitely has “the right to defend itself.”
Including from the annoying bites of gnats who actually represent no one except themselves.
Upholding the UN could most easily and effectively be achieved by throwing Israel out of the UN and depriving the USA of any kind of veto power or special status. Or maybe just throw both of the criminal scofflaws out of the UN. That is the way to “uphold the UN.”
Move the UN elsewhere.
Maybe to Madrid.

To end the illegal aggression of Israel & the US, i.e. proposals by third parties to implement a cessation (as being attributed to China and Russia); consider: If it sounds unlikely, made-up, or just out right ridiculous, then, in there, is most probably the hands of AI and Empire Propaganda control.

It has to be painfully obvious by now that there will be no “reset” honored by Iran until all of the US Empire presence is done and gone; not talked about; not promised to happen after retaliatory bombs and rockets  cease; but gone entirely, along with the absolute surrender of all the rulers and shakers of the Zionist Regime and they are in custody and under prosecution… The fate of the Statelets of the GCC and their fake hereditary kingdoms to be part and parcel at this point due to their continuous refusal to publicly join forces with Iran rather than continuing to enable the Pure Evil with which they have aligned themselves .

The US is an oppressive state, that people want it to rebel I have tried, it is just a few hundred million total population, and a large percent is opposed to the wars.  The rest of the world, Billions.  Stand the fuck up, I am in an authoritarian control structure regime.  I have stood up, and if I try and do anything it’s cooped.  That is why people in the US cannot oppose, but there are billions of other people while the US is a few hundred million.  Stand up, as a US activist, I cannot stop it, but you other billions of people should be able to, but you want me to do it for you.  Without your help I can do nothing.

Israel needs to be completely destroyed.
That may not be what Russia and China want,  but neither of them understand Islam.
Islam has no racism. Islam has no oppressed colonies. Islam has no adultery for any section of society, poor or rich . One rule for all. Islam has no spying , Big Brother, or Epstein class perversion,  both of which deeply oppress the weakestbin society.
Allah is in charge , not the takfiris.

All non-Muslim societies are oppressed  by dividing the society by allowing double standards of behaviour.

Israel cannot be  destroyed by Russia or China , because their own societies are divided and broken.
Iran is a society that protects its own interests.  Islam is a society that  protects Humanity’s interests.

Ahenobarbus 797 – already read ‘Battle Cry for Freedom’ many years ago and have it my private library room, thank you very much.

Anyone who denies that war crimes were committed against innocent Confederate civilians (there is no collective guilt !) is delusional.  Rape, murder, pillage, destruction of civilian infrastructure including farms, livestock, grain silos, small businesses, crops in the field, water wells, railroad lines, bridges, town halls, fire stations, police stations, etc., etc.  Why do you think that the Confederate troops fought so hard, and so well, when they were outgunned and out supplied by a factor of 5 ?  Because they were defending home and hearth, not to protect slavery?  Come on get with it!

In my study of the civil war correspondence of Confederate troopers, the vast majority of which owned NO slaves, I have never seen a reference in soldier letters to vowing to fight to defend slavery!  It always to defend our state, our county or our town/village against the Yankee invasion.  No reference to slavery, so lets stop with sophistry please.

Sounds like Gaza!

No General WT Sherman and his forces were unhinged (note several of his Generals objected vociferously to the wanton mayhem that was being inflicted on the civilian population) and lawless to the extreme.  There is absolutely no justification for this type of conduct.

Fun fact – President Abraham Lincoln was in favor of deporting liberated slaves to Liberia!

paddy 824 – Still no excuse for the wanton destruction visited by General WT Sherman’s unhinged troops in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Confederate troopers in Maryland and Pennsylvania were prohibited under penalty of death from destroying private property or for rape and pillage under orders from Generals RE Lee and Jubal A. Early.  Confederate troops paid for supplies requisitioned with Confederate dollars.

…caused Merkel’s order, with votes from the AfD. “Liberal democracy” is a sick joke. Well, yes, definitively while not ncessarily as chancelor but  as CDU party leader, she needed so speak out on matters. But was she so far out of something of a majority opinion? And didn’t the local CDU ignore  federal party decisions?  She strictly could not remain silent … On Merkel more generally you are a lot closer to E.O. than me  actually.
The CDU isn’t my party, never was.  She probely would have joined Bush43’s coaltion of the willing a ardent, Transatlantician. My favorite cartoonist portrayed her as the German one-women-volunteer force in front of the oval office in uniform. But which CDU member isn’t an ardent Atlantician. Just watch Merz’ present dilemma. He tried so hard to serve his king.  And lately tje AfD may be more in Washington that anywhere else in the wide world or any other German party. …

The US civil war was fueled by the radical Republicans who demanded war against the southern states.

Lincoln’s call for 75,000 Union volunteers just enflamed the war fever, and led to the secession of more southern states.

Were there alternatives to war ?  Yes many, including issuing federal debt to buy freedom for all slaves (an alternative Lincoln proposed but was rejected by the radicals).

Yet another was to make the southern state into a federated region, since their values were so different from the northern industrial states.

Over two million Americans were killed or starved to death during the civil war, it was not our finest hour, that is for sure………

In deciding to respond to one of the most laughably clueless posts on this thread, I proceeded to check the sig of the author: Princess Bodica. The blitheringly stupid assertion,
that the USA will transform along the lines of the German Wirtschaftswunder after WW2, belies zero knowledge of what actually happened and achieved the transformation.
The Wirtschaftswunder was the result of Ludwig Ehrhart (a proponent of ordo-liberalism) dismissing the allied-imposed wage and price controls in a surprise radio broadcast.  This allowed the homogeneous German nation to get back on its feet.  No such policy change is possible for the USA in the forseeable future.
Congratulations are due for pooting-forth the most ignorant fantasy to disgrace these pages, ‘Princess’.

Posted by: tobias cole | Apr 1 2026 17:53 utc | 859  From the Texas ordinance of secession, passed before any Republicans, radical or legalistic as Lincoln, even took office

Whereas, the recent developments in Federal affairs make it evident that the power of the Federal Government is sought to be made a weapon with which to strike down the interests and property of the people of Texas, and her sister slave-holding States, instead of permitting it to be, as was intended, our shield against outrage and aggression; THEREFORE….

Clearly “interests and property” means slavery. That’s why the same sentence talks of sister “slave-holding states.” Those states that issued declarations of causes, such as South Carolina, were often more candid:

increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the Institution of Slavery…A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery.

There is also the notorious “Cornerstone” speech by Alexander Stephens. It may be objected this is just one person’s opinion, but note that Stephens was the vice president of the CSA. This speech was also delivered before any northern radicals did anything.

The officer corps and high political leadership of the CSA had a much larger proportion of slaveholders than the overall average in the population. The correlation between extensive numbers of slaveholders and secessionist sentiments is high, more evidence that the rebellions was for slavery and the rest is lies. This person, who should have an bad reputation as a Trump cultists (despite late pretenses to reform) merely repeats a conglomeration of facts, follies, myths, omissions, double standards, distortions, caricatures, all tangled up in bad faith pretenses at rationality. What we can call, for short, mythefaction.

So the vast majority of Confederate soldiers of all ranks did not own slaves and were not fighting for the institution of slavery, then constitutional I might add.

So what were they fighting for then ? Its clear from their letters to their families that they were fighting for  home, hearth and their towns and villages against the Union invasion, and the Union destruction of their unique society…………excluding slavery.   Fighting for their way of life!

Return ceremonies, for deceased service members, at Dover AFB in Delaware are now closed to the press and the public.

This indicates that there are many returns occurring without public knowledge.

This war is a fiasco of the largest degree, just like the fake WND War against a client state and client dictator (remember Saddam was on the CIA payroll for years, and received CIA intell, and cash and ammo during the Iran-Iraq war).
