War On Iran: “And then? What?”

Trump’s latest outburst, intended to cool the market, issued about an hour ago:

The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran. Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business,” we will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet “touched.” This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year “Reign of Terror.” Thank you for your attention to this matter.

President DONALD J. TRUMP

Fitting:

Cartoon via Rob Campbell
A relevant and revealing response to any of Trump’s proposed actions is: “And then? What?”

From the latest War Update by Hamidreza Azizi:

Iranian planning is no longer centered on absorbing strikes but on shaping the battlefield in advance. A concept described as “preemptive destruction” is emerging, involving continuous targeting of U.S. bases, logistics hubs, and staging areas in countries such as Kuwait and Bahrain to disrupt any potential ground or heliborne operation before it can be executed.

Comments

He sure sounds deranged and evidently wants to sound deranged. It’s another attempt at extortion: “I’m just crazy enough to blow us all up, so you better surrender or else!!!”

“A concept described as “preemptive destruction” is emerging, involving continuous targeting of U.S. bases, logistics hubs, and staging areas in countries such as Kuwait and Bahrain to disrupt any potential ground or heliborne operation before it can be executed.”

That’s the main way the Russians used heavy artillery at Stalingrad, to disrupt German troop concentrations while still forming up before they could launch an attack.

Was Col. Walt Kurtz a maniac? or was he a “poet-warrior in the classical sense”?

is Trump insane? or, esp in his dotage, is he simply mouthing and mirroring the beliefs, values, etc., of his own class?

Bibi, Bolsonaros, Milei, Meloni, Orban (sic), Merz, Duterte, MbS, Modi, Kaja Kallas, Chrystia Freedland (sp?), etc., etc., etc.

is there a pattern? what if we extend our timeframe back to 1945 (for simplicity’s sake)?

This all makes me think of some song lyrics, also from 1991. I wonder if the Iranians are feeling similarly.

Midnight ronkers

City slickers

Gunmen and maniacs

All will feature on the freakshow

And I can′t do nothing ’bout that, no

But if you hurt what′s mine

I’ll sure as hell retaliate

Does anyone here remember that scene in Waterworld where the hatch is opened up and they pan to the skin and bones old man slave who had been down in the oil storage for years filling buckets for lift to surface, and he sees the guy who opened the hatch has a torch in his hand ready to throw it down into the oil storage and blow the ship up… the old man says:  “oh, thank God”…as the torch is throw down?

It’s pretty much how I feel about this mess.
It was always going to end this way.

The USSR collapsed with dignity,  it did not take the entire world with it,  although, militarily it could have.  It showed the world how a great power can decline,  even break up,  without making itself deranged in the process.

As for USReal/UK…Iran has sent a torch to their economic enslavement,  and all I can say is: “Oh, thank God”….

I’ve given it a lot of thought,  Russia is sitting in Syria still.  In any event,  I’ve read that even the lowest grades in a nuke can be detected now.

I do believe, like Ukraine,  for Russia, even a tactical nuke would be a bridge too far,  if anything flew, it would be intercepted. That’s just my opinion.  There is zero that flies back & forth that Russia, sitting there, is unaware of.

Posted by: Hagen | Mar 30 2026 14:52 utc | 29

Trump was talking about building a military complex below ground under the new Ballroom. You can guess his intention.

The White House asked the contractors to bid to build pre made bunker together with its specification of what they could withstand and submit a plan for 3 days, 15 days and 30 days delivery.

This is stupid because whoever the SOP for this military bid is retarded as it shows the people in charge lacked technical knowledge. People don’t make Precast Concrete units and lego assemble them in 3 – 15 days in the US doomsday bunker industry.

The US corps of the Engineer need to explain to the White House that Normal cement takes 30 days to cure completely. This is masonary 101. However, the military emilinated Masonary engineer MOS and retrained as Combat Engineers because I had first hand experience talking to them reclass back in the days.

To build a bunker within 3, 15 or 30 days need steel frames and I beams, Mold to hold hundred thousand pounds of concrete compounding with the weight of dirt and side pressure to prevent trench collapse.

The heavy machines and heavy equipment are scratter across the USA need to be hauled to the White House and the concrete manufacturers are in peak season and any plan always need leadtimes.

But more importantly, why the heck is it in Trump mind to build bunkers as quickly as possible under the Ballroom/military headquarters when the White House walls are already 2 feet thick?

I bet they think they’re special and they will crawl out of their vault with their Fallout bottle caps and become Adams and Eves ( or Adam and Steve if that is your preference ) of the new post nuclear apocalypse world.

This is important to remember, the other branches of the government have plenty of mechanisms by which they could pretty well end this war which they simply choose not to use. It’s been a running joke for decades that the only ‘bipartisan consensus’ is war. Being able to shift all blame to the current president who is happily playing the unpredictable bad cop role if (probably when) this all goes belly up probably suits them just fine.

One strongly suspects The Law of Opposite Effects is exerting itself at an ever-rapid pace. Everything the experts, authorities and neocons said would happen … the opposite will happen (and already is). The regimes that will be changed are in America and Israel. Short-term pain will beget long-term pain. The existential question is whether the “people” will figure out that the kings they supposedly want to get rid of are the “Deep State,” now being correctly re-branded as the “Epstein Regime.” As I see it, all that matters now is if the world can somehow avoid a nuclear WW3. I’m also curious to see if the world still has any “adults in the room.” It looks like all the adults are in Iran, but they are being systematically assasinated along with numerous schools of children who will never become adult.

Statement by Hamas (autotranslated)

“In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful

On the 50th anniversary of Earth Day: Our people are rooted in their land, and will remain steadfast, defending it by all means, until all their rights are taken away, and their aspirations for liberation and return are achieved.

The fiftieth anniversary of Eternal Earth Day this year comes after more than two years of a war of extermination, starvation, ethnic cleansing, and attempts at forced displacement to which our people in the Gaza Strip were subjected. Its dangerous repercussions continue to include all aspects of human life there, and in light of the fascist occupation government’s escalation of crimes of settlement, annexation, Judaization, and displacement in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, and the continued closure of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and its grave violations against prisoners, in aggression and crime. It reveals the nature of this Zionist enemy, which violates all international norms, conventions, and divine laws, and has become a real threat to the security and stability of the region and the world.

Our people commemorate this immortal memory, on the thirtieth of March of every year, to remember the spark that was ignited in the year 1976 AD by the masses of our people in the Triangle, Galilee, and Negev in our lands occupied in 1948 AD, in response to the policy of settlement encroachment, and in resistance to the occupation policy of displacement and deportation, so that this memory becomes a comprehensive national symbol for promoting unity, struggle, and resistance, and a landmark from which generations will be inspired by the spirit of sacrifice. The challenge and insistence on clinging to the land and confronting the aggression, until the occupation is defeated and removed from our land.

On the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day, we have mercy on the souls of our righteous martyrs, we ask God Almighty to heal our wounded, we send a greeting of loyalty to our free prisoners, we salute our great, patient people stationed in the Gaza Strip, in the West Bank, in Jerusalem, in the occupied interior, in refugee camps and in the diaspora, and we send a message of pride and pride to all those stationed on the borders of the homeland and those standing on their land, and we pledge to them to continue the path Adhering to the constants and defending our land and our sanctities until they are liberated and return to them is achieved.

We confirm the following:

– The crimes of the Zionist enemy against our people, our land, and our Islamic and Christian sanctities will not be subject to a statute of limitations, nor will it establish a right or legitimacy for it, and at the same time it will not break the will of our people and discourage them from continuing the path of struggle, steadfastness, and adherence to rights and principles.

Enabling our people to cling to their land and live in it freely and independently, and to defend it by all means, is not a favor from anyone, but rather a legitimate right as guaranteed by international conventions to get rid of the most dangerous ongoing criminal occupation in the world.

The occupation plans, crimes of land theft, settlement encroachment, and the displacement of our people will not succeed in changing the facts of history and reality, and obliterating the features of the Palestinian land.

– We reiterate that we will not give up or give up an inch of the land of Palestine, and our people will remain steadfast, defending it by all means, until all their rights are taken away, and their aspirations for liberation and return are achieved.

– The city of Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque were and will remain the crown jewel of our blessed historical land, and the occupation will not have any sovereignty or legitimacy over any part of it, and we will protect and defend them, whatever the sacrifices.

– The return of refugees to their land from which they were forcibly displaced by the Zionist occupation is a right and duty, both individually and collectively, which no one has the right to give up or neglect, and we renew our categorical rejection of all settlement projects and alternative homelands.

– We renew our call for our Arab and Islamic nation to join hands and unite in confronting and thwarting all the colonial plans and goals of the Zionist entity that go beyond the borders of Palestine and threaten the security, stability and unity of our nation.

We call on the free people of the world to strengthen all forms of solidarity and support for our people’s just cause and legitimate struggle, to isolate the racist, fascist Zionist entity, to criminalize its terrorism and to prosecute its leaders, all the way to ending the occupation, empowering our people with freedom, independence and self-determination, and establishing the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Mercy for the martyrs, a speedy recovery for the wounded, and near freedom for the prisoners and detainees. It is a jihad of victory or martyrdom.

Spain continues to forge ahead as the leading European state:

Spain has closed its airspace to US military planes involved in the aggression on Iran, a move that goes beyond its earlier refusal to allow the use of jointly-operated military bases, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais, citing military sources.

The closure, which affects NATO flights en route to the Middle East, does not apply to emergency situations, El Pais added.

“This decision is part of the government’s commitment not to participate in or contribute to a war initiated unilaterally and against international law,” Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said in an interview with radio Cadena Ser, when asked if the airspace closure could strain Spain-US relations.

The move now forces US military planes to bypass Spain, impacting NATO military routes and international coordination.

Does anybody have certain information about Netanyahu?
If he really is dead or otherwise out of reach one may wonder what happened when he disappeared.
The US has great use for being able to point to him and few would contradict them. But what if he suddenly realised they had walked into a trap and wanted to back off?
If that was the case and some party among insiders had already decided to let Israel continue being trapped and seriously punished then it would be tempting to prevent Netanyahu from being able to communicate. If such a context exists we ought not expect that it will be announced officially. None of this has to depend on what happened to Netanyahu but if things dont clarify such suspicions may hang on.
I bet there is a sizeable group maybe even a majority of americans who want retribution for everything related to what has come up in the Epstein Context. Are they  willing to sacrifice the petrodollar and US dominance?
I suspect they are.
Not sure anything like that is going on but there is some chance for it.

When the American military started blowing up Venezuelan boats and their occupants for (allegedly) transporting cocaine – and Most Americans cheered this on or failed to protest this and seek to prosecute these unconstitutional first-degree murders, I knew America had lost any semblance of morality. We’re not just the Bad Guys, we are evil and psychopaths. The military should have never followed these orders (from Trump, a serial war criminal). Also, the msm was not outraged at all. Skip forward a few months and the same military “double taps” an Iranian school and most of us know that nobody will be held responsible for this ghastly war crime. What happened to Americans?

If we lived in a sane world, this would be used as evidence in his war crimes tribunal.   But we live in a world where the US is not criticized for attacking Iran, but Iran is denounced for fighting back.

56% of the 10’000 palestinian prisoners that the Zios wish to exterminate have not been charged with anything. Many are doctors and health service providers as well as passers by.

The reason that they want to exterminate them is that they are witnesses of the torture, starvation and brutality that the zionists use extensively. The idea behind the potential extermination is that the Gaza genocide will be hidden by the compliant media and Zionist controlled Governments.

Some 17 year old kid in detention recently died from combined starvation and torture, BUT his body has not been returned to his family as it would be clear how he was treated. He had not been “charged” with anything. Not that that makes any difference as NO zionist is ever punished for their bestial crimes, and even if a Palestinian is released in  a prisoner swop, the Zionists will arrest them again soon after.

A few thousand Marine combat troops. 1-2000 82 Airborne troops. It ain’t D-Day, Inchon or even small WWII island invasions. The Marine ships are probably in Diego Garcia to interdict Asian, Russian cargo/tanker ships. MEU Marine ships would never survive 100s of km of the Persian Gulf to land anywhere.

40-50,000 US troops are in the region already. So how many helicopters, A-10s, actual combat troops are there? Or is it all Navy crews and Air Force support, logistics, maintenance troops? My bet is a few more 1000 light infantry combat troops in the 50,000 that were relocated from Syria.

How do you support troops in Iran without airbases or ship supply lines? 200-1000 helicopters? Cargo planes? From where would they operate? Kuwait? UAE? Does the US even have 1000 helicopters or cargo planes that fly? The US can’t even support air assets it already has in the region outside Iran. This isn’t the Berlin airlift with a destination airport. It looks more like the Bay of Pigs without any ships.

There is no invasion because many US bases are evacuated in Iraq and Gulf Kingdoms. They are short air defense and air + navy ops are being pushed pushed to bases outside of the region. They can’t control the area around many regional US bases much less actually invade and hold a piece of Iran. Many US bases military effectiveness are degraded to inoperable. If you can’t hold a US base outside Iran, you can’t invade Iran.

Could be true but I’m inclined to think that the administration is simply setting up a scapegoat. Another way of thinking about it, who is worse: a madman being mad as is his nature or an army of apparently sane men who follow the madman blindly or knowingly?

Unless they have a special contract with Us that we have never heard before, they can’t stop Us from using their bases, the basically are no longer in Spain. They know it and used the emergency thing. This is just for internal propaganda reasons, it can’t be applied. The deals Us has with other countries are even worse, for example in Poland and Romania Us soldiers are above the law, can’t be prosecuted no matter how many they kill and that has already happened multiple times. The Us bases that Putin said they are designed to attack Russia with a simple software change in a few minutes, have no obligation to defend Poland or Romania from attacks, only to act in whatever interests Us has. The same thing now in Finland.

Average gasoline price per gallon nationally is now $4. In California, the crucial diesel price has skyrocketed over the last month from $5.10/gal to $7.36, rising 43 cents over the last week. Gas in the Golden State averages $5.88/gal, with the highest county price being $6.62/gal. Every rise in diesel price sets a new all-time record high, while gas needs to rise about 60 cents more for a new record that will surely happen. Cost push inflation will thus be much higher here on the West Coast and fuel the rise of stagflation that’s already happening. East of the Great American Desert prices haven’t risen as high, but the key diesel rate has surpassed $5/gal most everywhere. You can use the above link to explore more.

Has anyone been reading James Howard Kunstler’s bi-weekly blog posts lately?

Here’s a quote about Iran from today’s article:
“Anyway, in less than a week, Mr. Trump turns the lights off all over Iran, and then they are back in the twelfth century. . . no command communication, no juice for anything, no money, no food, no water, no nothing . . . and a population getting dangerously desperate to make it all go away. . . to return to some dim memory of what normal life once was in an Iran not ruled by psychotic death cultists.” [JHK March 30, 2026]

See https://www.kunstler.com/p/springtime-for-rinos

Kunstler continues to ban commenters who insist on posting pro-Iran or anti-Israel opinions. This helps to increase the number and purity of echos inside his chamber.

If Iran and Israel are winners, Iran will not allow Israel to take advantage of any destroyed arab states put perhaps you aim to arrange some oil on the water symbolically speaking? And both Iran and Israel in ruins it seems. But Iran has prepared for this war. To the Israelies it must be an extremely unpleasant surprise, even if they expext the US to pay for rebuilding its infrastructure, the rules Israel will have to adapt to will no longer give any room for supremacy. Will zionism even be accepted at all?

Deals are made to be broken; just ask Donald Trump, Mr. “Art of the Deal” himself. The point is moot, however, seeing as the USA is not using those bases afIk. My guess is that when the smoke clears, the USA will have far fewer overseas bases than it did before the current madness began.

Yes, the picture looks grim right now — Trump’s bluster, Hormuz chaos, energy spikes, inflation squeezing households, and the whole system feeling brittle. But history shows crises don’t automatically flatten the West. Germany’s Wirtschaftswunder exploded out of the rubble of total defeat and hyper-inflation in the 1950s; Japan rebuilt itself after Hiroshima into an economic powerhouse. Hard times have repeatedly forced adaptation, not surrender.

The same dynamic is playing out today. The Iran war is a brutal wake-up call, but it is already accelerating the very shifts that reduce fossil-fuel leverage: Pakistan shielding itself with cheap Chinese solar, Cuba pivoting to rooftop panels out of raw necessity, and the EU rushing digital-trade pacts (CPTPP alignment), robo-advisors as everyday “agents” for complex finances, and the digital euro for monetary sovereignty. Defence integration (PESCO, EDF, joint procurement) is ratcheting up for the same reason — strategic autonomy is no longer optional.

The East and Global South aren’t waiting for permission; they’re already building the practical path — distributed renewables, bottom-up digitization, parallel rule-making. That is not a menace to the West. It is the early architecture of a genuine multipolar world. We don’t have to “take this lying down”; we can ride the same wave, turning pressure into resilience, complexity into automated tools, and dependence into self-reliance.

Crises expose weaknesses, but they also compress decades of necessary change into a few years. The brighter future is already being prototyped elsewhere. The pragmatic choice is to see it as an invitation, not a threat — and get on with building our own version of it.

I am hoping that we lose both the petrodollar AND US dominance.  Our US bases in West Asia have hurt Americans a lot.  Ok a lot less than the carnage and violence we inflicted on West Asia.  The damage we inflict on ourselves is orders of magnitude less than what we have inflicted on others.

Considering our recent actions in Venezuela and especially Cuba, I would prefer that we even stop being a regional power.  Until we can use power in a respectful way, I am in favor of power being taken away from us.  Our recent actions have gotten so grotesque that it looks like the world will take it from us.  Hopefully without any nukes or chemical or biological weapons being used.

My hopes for the peace after the war?  US base are removed from around the world, and zero military US forces are outside the US.  That would  be a good start.

Rubio just told Iran they need to stop building missiles and drones they are using to hit US and Israel.

So that means team Trump claiming to have destroyed most-if-not-all of the missile bases are lying while Iran’s army spokesman saying all and more of what are being used is being replaced is more or less true.

Embarrassingly loyal…??

No, slavishly devoted, they serve to the point of self-destruction, these Baltic dwarfs.

Poland is an exception; Poland has always tried to side with the supposedly stronger power… from Napoleon to Hitler. Poland currently wants to overtake Germany as the center of Europe and the largest US base… they don’t care that this makes them target number one in case of war. All the Baltic states would have been better off remaining neutral; with NATO, they’ve now become foot soldiers of the EU and NATO.

A pile of duck droppings for the Russian army, but good enough to provoke… in the interests of the bigwigs.

We here say, for example, “Never trust a Pole.” He’ll sell you out immediately if the offer is right OR… if he sees an advantage for himself.
