Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

RIP Ali Khamenei

“Sometimes, I imagine myself dying from an accident. Or maybe a fever. And my heart becomes so full of sadness: that the chance for competing for paradise [i.e., martyrdom] will be taken away from me that way.”
Ajatollah Ali Khamenei – (source)

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran was martyred on Saturday morning, together with other officials, by an Israeli airstrike on his home in Tehran. May he rest in peace.

‘Western’ observers make the mistake of seeing highly reverted Shia leaders as mere clerics. They are way more than that.

First and foremost they are jurists and judges with a deep philosophical knowledge of the law. The title Ajatollah signifies a high academic ranking of an Shia-Islam scholar. Ajatollahs are examples for those living around them. They are extraordinary people who should be emulated and who’s advices are to be followed.

The system of the Islamic Republic was build with redundancies (archived) to be able to survive external and internal shocks:

For those who led the 1979 revolution, problems with leadership change were not just ideas—they were real warnings from history. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini did not eliminate the supreme authority; instead, he made it part of the system. The intense debates of 1979 about how to avoid past patterns of collapse led to new answers in Iran’s constitution: Each major body was created to solve a specific risk exposed by history.

The Guardian Council was formed to guard against political drift and to keep laws in line with Islamic principles. The Assembly of Experts took on the task of selecting and supervising the supreme leader, to prevent a concentration of power without oversight. The Expediency Council was established to resolve institutional deadlock, ensuring the system could continue to function even when high-level disagreements arose. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the intelligence agencies were meant to secure the revolution internally and externally, checking both foreign threats and domestic unrest.

Iran is frequently portrayed as a political order bound tightly to individuals. Yet the architecture that emerged after 1979 was formed by a different logic, one founded in the revolutionary experience itself. Khomeini captured this hierarchy in a remark often cited within Iran’s political elite: “Preserving the Islamic Republic is more important than preserving any individual, even if that individual were the Imam of the Age”—a reference to Shiism’s 12th Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi.

It is still unclear whether the system will always follow this principle. But one should expect a change in leadership in Tehran to be treated less as an ending and more as a chance for the country’s institutions to show they can survive.

I am confident that the Islamic Republic will survive this test. ‘Regime change’ in Tehran, which Trump seems to dream of (archived), is unlikely to happen.

Meanwhile the Strait of Hormuz is closed and the war of attrition continues …

France has announced that it plans to deploy its aircraft carrier “Charles de Gaulle” to the Eastern Mediterranean, urgently interrupting its deployment in the Baltics, where it was supposed to “demonstrate NATO’s power.”

Here’s Russia’s chance for some proxy payback for France launching missiles into Russia. Will they take it? Would Iran shoulder the blame and consequences the way Nazi Ukraine does, maybe not?

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps:

The THAAD radar installation operated by the zionist entity in Al-Ruwais, UAE has been wiped out by a precision strike from the Revolutionary Guard’s aerospace forces. A US fleet fuel-support vessel positioned 700 kilometers off the coast of Chabahar was also hit by coordinated drone and missile fire, forcing it out of service. IRGC advanced anti-ship systems are now maintaining continuous lock on the remaining US naval group in the area.

On the videos and stills coming out. AI is so good now it is difficult or impossible pick what is real and what is fake. But what I am seeing is in line with what I have seen previous to AI. Iranian missiles will be doing a geat deal of damage. That Netanyahu skipped out to safety is a good indicator of the hits Israel is taking and expects to take.

The Israelis won’t put out video of hits to military intel government targets but will release video of damage to civilian buildings.
Iran struck a military settlement and they put out video of the destroyed and damaged housing. Nearly a block of housing destroyed by from what I can make out a single very large warhead. The power of some of Iran’s larger warheads was seen in the 12 day war as well.

No country under the Rule of the Americans and Jews puts out official video of battle damage to military targets. Very often it is a criminal offence for civilians to post video to social media. In Ukraine it is a criminal offense to do so yet just a few still post to telegram. Prior to bringing in the law a huge amount of video was posted to social media by ordinary Ukrainians.
Because of Vietnam, the US only allows vetted journalists. All other journalists they consider military targets.

We see an Iran that is prepared and determined, just as they announced. They’re also exactly doing what they’d said they’d do: attack nearby bases and don’t hold back on Israel. I assume that US/Israel intelligence knew in advance about Iran’s possilibities, including Chinese data etc. They blew the January color revolution attempt, so knew that internal unrest is unlikely to succeed.

Why the attack? Don’t know, this is why I am asking. My attempts to avoid “because they’re stupid” (I believe that a lot of people can be stupid at the same time but I also believe that the class who is genuinely making decisions is far from stupid):

  1. Team Netanyahu decided this is the last chance to get its attack on Iran with the US in tow.
  2. Israel and/or USA genuinely thought that taking out Iran’s leadership would accomplish something.
  3. The point isn’t to “win” but to have war no matter what.
  4. Chances for a clean US victory were slim but better than against China and the prospects are worse.
  5. Distracting from the Epstein scandal is worth the losses.

I understand that domestically Netanyahu is in such a bad position that he needs to extend wars to keep in power. But it doesn’t explain why the Christian Zionists (Trump’s sponsors) go along. At face value, they’re damaging their beloved Israel. Is it just hubris / lack of information (i.e. they couldn’t imagine Israel being weak to Iran) or is there more to it? For example, sacrifice Israel now — for what?

The way in which the decision makers in the west are stupid is that they can only project onto others what they are. The have little to no understanding of other cultures and often under estimate them.

Trump decided to take the Gamble on very large initial strikes in the first days would force Iran to capitulate. The strike on the girls school, the strikes on the hospitals, the strikes on other civilian areas all designed to try and force Iran to capitulate to save the people. The Americans have completely misjudged the culture of Iran.

It is highly likely that Iran will now force the US out of the Persian Gulf region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and associated forces have demonstrated a high level of operational coordination across multiple axes of conflict, integrating large salvos of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and a variety of unmanned aerial vehicles to strike targets in Israel, across the Gulf region and against U.S. forces simultaneously.

In the latest phases of the conflict, Tehran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones against bases in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Cyprus, Iraqi Kurdistan and Israel in the same campaign, underscoring an ability to manage concurrent fronts and diverse weapon systems. This reflects not only the size of Iran’s missile and drone inventories but also its capacity to orchestrate complex strike packages across distributed launchers and ranges.

Analyses of Iranian capabilities emphasise that Tehran’s approach combines ballistic missiles with high volumes of UAVs in coordinated packages, dispersing assets across numerous locations and launch platforms to complicate enemy defence efforts. Even though Iran remains quantitatively and qualitatively limited compared with established superpower militaries, its strategic depth, layered dispersion of aerial assets and experience in deploying asymmetric strike formations mean that it can strain regional air-defence systems and force adversaries to contend with simultaneous threats over wide geographic areas.

Western assessments also note that Iran’s asymmetric toolkit — missile salvos, drones, cruise missiles, cyber operations and allies actions (Iraqi resistance so far) — is designed to multiply effect across multiple fronts, creating strategic dilemmas for opponents despite the Islamic Republic’s more modest conventional capabilities relative to superpower armies.

Earlier I saw something put out officially be the US military. A military tanker or resupply ship had been hit and disabled 700 km off the coast of Iran. That confirms that Iran has the capability to strike ships far off shore.

You ask a good Q that’s hard to answer with facts. Given what’s been leaked about the decision process, lots of Kool-Aid was consumed last December that triggered all we’ve seen since. IMO, Netanyahu saw this as his last chance to fulfill his life-long obsession of destroying Iran while also needing to avoid being found guilty for his corruption that would also imprison his wife. And that’s why his wife and kid(s) are in Florida and he fled to Berlin. Trump has had a similar obsession with Iran too. IMO, all the hemming and hawing was psyop aimed at Iran trying to lull them into complacency again so a degree of surprise could be gained. IMO, Iran’s behavior was normal. Hudson’s speculation on the meeting where Khamenei was killed is just that but fits the notion that normal duties were happening. But that strays from your Q. Clearly, the political goal was regime change in Iran and that failed immediately thanks to Iran’s governing structure, something intel ought to have known and strongly advised against. Were they “stupid” or whacked out by their own hubris? IMO, it was the latter. The only way to attain the Neocon/Zionist political goal is to invade Iran with millions of troops, as not even nukes can make that happen.

Motives and means, though not proof in and of themselves, are reasonable inputs.

Not speaking for LD here, but there is a theological argument about this. Proclaiming a universal truth about some sort of granted entitlement, while at the same time excluding some people from the “benefits” associated with that figure, is the quintessential intellectual evil. Satanism is but a variant of this. The notion doesn’t even need a transcendending element, as biologically motivated racism such as proclaimed by Nazi ideology works all the same.

Rumor has it that Nuttyahoo went to Berlin.

Then saw this:

https://tass.com/world/2094115
“Iran targets German bases in Jordan, Iraq — magazine”
”While all projectiles and drones were neutralized by air defense systems, one US soldier was affected by falling debris, Der Spiegel reported”

“BERLIN, March 1. /TASS/. In response to the joint US and Israeli attack, Iran launched strikes on German bases in Jordan and Iraq, among other targets, Der Spiegel reported, citing sources”.
“According to them, Iranian missiles and drones were launched against a base located near Erbil Airport in northern Iraq and a Bundeswehr field camp in eastern Jordan. While all projectiles and drones were neutralized by air defense systems, one US soldier was affected by falling debris, the German magazine wrote.”
“Even prior to the strikes on Iran, the Bundeswehr reduced “to an absolute minimum” its military presence in Iraq. The number of German troops in Jordan, too, will be limited when the situation permits, the magazine added.”

BiBi went to Berlin for:  ???
a). chemical weapons
b). Troops (we all know BiBi isn’t going to get his 100k reserve troops he supposedly called up… he couldn’t get 40k and the Ortho Jews there aren’t having none of it)
c).  Arms
d). All of the above.

Who’s surprised by the German/UK/Zio alliance??  Zelensky axis…

Just interesting,

They believe putting down Ali Kamenei would end the Iranian religious government. That’s what they say here in Belgium, in France etc.

Then I guess they truly believed it. That’s a hail mary approach, so it reeks of desperation. And this is independent of the fact that killing Khamenei is strategically counterproductive if you just know the basics about Shia. It becomes even more dubious for anyone following his statements, something that experts on the region should do … there may be no such Western experts in official capacity anymore.

If we look at the Western stakes in this gamble, the adventure is mind-boggling:

  • USA is risking their regional bases. And the Arabic oil states groomed/pimped over decades.
  • USA is risking their military aura further, already under pressure from the Ukrainian debacle.
  • Israel is risking its country.
  • EUrope is risking another energy crisis. Right when coping badly with the previous one.
  • Trump / MAGA are risking the midterm elections.

None of this is winning, all of this is fear or despair. There are various Go proverbs to the fact: “When leading, play safe. When behind, play riskily.” Everybody here knows that Axis of Evil leaders don’t give a shit about human cost (many of them probably salivate over “enemy” civilian casualties) but here they’re betting their own house.

Multiple sources; if some news item catches my attention I check several other outlets.

I have rejected lots of stuff, not just on Iran this time around, but in June 2025, not to mention Ukraine. I see something, I search; sometimes I can find the original source, sometimes not.
Sometimes it is possible to download the image or video and dig into the metadata; that can be worthwhile, revealing fakes as well as genuine material, for example I have come across many, many images where the metadata includes a time/date entry for Adobe Photoshop version X.xx… That gets rejected out of hand.

This means that the German government would be liable to prosecution.

Preparing for a war of aggression is punishable under Section 80 of the German Criminal Code (StGB) and is unconstitutional (Article 26 of the German Basic Law (GG)). Anyone who prepares for a war of aggression involving the Federal Republic of Germany risks life imprisonment or at least ten years’ imprisonment. The aim is to protect the peaceful coexistence of peoples.

Here are the most important aspects:
Criminal liability: Preparing, planning or initiating a war of aggression is a criminal offence (International Criminal Code, Section 13 VStGB).

Constitutional principle: Article 26 of the Basic Law prohibits actions that disrupt the peaceful coexistence of peoples, in particular the preparation of a war of aggression.

Saudi leader lobbied Trump to strike Iran, despite outwardly favoring diplomacy — reporthttps://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/saudi-leader-lobbied-trump-to-strike-iran-despite-outwardly-favoring-diplomacy-report/

That’s another highly curious factoid. Let me assume it’s true even though it may well be just Israel’s attempt to get Iran attack Saudi Arabia (not just US bases there), setting back all progress made in the last years.

Everybody knows that Saudi Arabia fought for years against Ansar Allah (the “Houthis”), without success. And they had to fold when Ansar Allah began attacking Saudi Arab oil/gas infrastructure. Riyadh doesn’t have anything else, and they’re extremely vulnerable at this point (all of the Arab oil countries are). Now whatever damage Ansar Allah could achieve, Iran can do more: shorter range, better missiles, etc. Clearly, if MBS schemed for such the US attack on Iran, he expected it to stay hidden. Will be interesting to see how Riyadh reacts. I’ve read, and it sounds extremely logical to me, that Tehran called the Arab capitols and told them that they’re going to attack the US bases but are not intending to take it any further. In particular, attacking oil infrastructure is a last resort: ultimately, everyone will do this to everyone and that’s game theoretically worst. That said, there was a report about a burning Bahraini oil platform today. The Arab monarchies must be panicking. Hard to see how they can get out of that problem.

It is likely the B2’s launched long range missiles from outside Iran’s air defence reach. It is possible the Americans have knocked a hole in Iran’s air defence but I haven’t heard or seen anything that would indicate it. Last time, the US and izzies used sleeper cells had had been positioned over several years to knock out air defenses with FPV drones. They did punch a hole in Iran’s air defence for a few days but that was quickly repaired

Posted by: Fredrick | Mar 1 2026 21:06 utc | 497

486 – Yes. Kot is an old-fashioned German word for excrement.
At the risk of sounding like that idiot who occasionally posts claiming that most Nazi leaders were actually Jews and their surnames prove it, let me take a guess at how Eisenkot got his name:
In the 17th and 18th centuries, various German-speaking states like Austria, Prussia and so on required Jews to adopt surnames for administrative purposes. Many did not already have one so officials gave them names. There was a sort of tariff for names, not always German (sometimes Slavic ones were given). The cheapest names tended to be insulting, like Mehlwurm (mealworm). I have a suspicion Mr Iron Excrement had some very cheap ancestors who did not want to pay a higher fee for a more desirable name, like Kohn or Roth…

I suggest we refrain from that level of joking. The pope in Avignon had a giant chimney with iron rods on the inside placed to stack Jews in two or three rows before allowing them to rise towards heaven. Moral outrage, even if righteous, becomes more convincing without glee.
Posted by: persiflo | Mar 1 2026 20:21 utc | 459
And your argument would been more convinsing if it was true. Sadly no:
Based on historical records, there is no evidence to support the claim that the popes in Avignon (1309–1377) used a chimney with iron rods to kill Jews. The Avignon popes, beginning with Clement V, actually provided protection to Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in neighboring regions, often valuing them as taxpayers, and they lived in relative safety.
