News & views related to the war in Iran …

Comments

(…)some thousands of Marines/Airborne troops need to die as a sacrifice in Iran – deliberately, to pump up public support for full scale war.  They’re stuck and need that reaction to rally the US public.

Hmm, would they really rally the public? Probably, yes, if the US had a popular and charismatic president, trusted. But Trump?

More than 1000 US soldiers dead, is the US public going to put the fault on Iran, or Trump? Are they going to ask for revenge against Iran, or Trump?

Oh, I agree but you must remember that Trump and Co. are the most openly amoral people ever in the Whoite House.  Nothing is unthinkable.
Military people must accept accountability for their fate in this.  If they willingly walk into suicide by Trump’s order – to foolishly try to recreate a Pearl Harbor reaction, then their blood is on their own heads, Enough is enough.
And YES ! Why the heck are all the stock indexes in green this morning?  This is insane.

Another Iranian commander died due to traitors. Seems like 40% of the Iranian population are working for Mossad.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement on the 30th, paying tribute to the military commander of the IRGC, Alireza Tangerang.

Hadn’t they lost some 300-400 in Gaza already? Also Merkava started in 1989 so about a third should already be worn out and cannibalized.

Helicopters could easily be staged through someplace much closer to the Straits to deliver Marines.

No, the can’t,  not without great difficulty. Oman is neutral and has closed its airspace, and Yemen has the Houthis, and pesky little things called drones that make helicopters sitting ducks. Not to mention Manpads. Oh, and AWACS are still very important, especially when the local radars have been shot up. Trump did some poor planning, which isn’t surprising, but there are multiple geo(graphic)political reasons why Iran has always a military challenge.

Long post but useful info z and v
Lavrov has previously said they do not provide Intel to Iran
🇮🇷 Who helps Iran launch missiles❓🔺 Of particular interest in the context of the strike on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and the destroyed E-3 Sentry aircraft during this strike is the source and operational efficiency of the intelligence data provided to Iran.🛰 🇮🇷 Shortly before the attack by Israel and the USA, Iran publicly demonstrated its most modern satellite for optical-electronic monitoring – Payam, also known as Tolou-3. According to the published information, the spatial resolution of its long-focus optical-electronic module is approximately 10m for color imaging and about 5m for black-and-white. Such a level of detail is not enough to reliably identify specific models of armored vehicles or types of enemy air defense systems, but it is enough, for example, to monitor ships in the aircraft carrier strike group of the US Navy, as well as to observe the deployment of tactical aircraft of the US and Israeli Air Forces in the region. It is expected that the resolution of more advanced optical-electronic satellites of Iran, Tolou-4, will reach 2.5m.In addition, Iran has satellites of the “Nour” series, but their functionality at the moment, especially in terms of reconnaissance of American objects in the Middle East, is unknown.🛰🇨🇳 In the arsenal of the PRC, there are satellites of the “Yaogan” series. In this line, there are indeed devices for shooting from space. In addition, China has satellites of the “Gaofen” series, which constantly hover over a certain region in geostationary orbit. Some of these satellites indeed pass over the Middle East. For example, the radar “Gaofen-3” (NORAD ID 41727) flies over Israel and most of the Red Sea and could well capture part of the territory of Jordan and Saudi Arabia. There also fly “Gaofen-8” – a high-resolution optical reconnaissance satellite – and “Gaofen-9” – a spacecraft with sub-meter resolution, the images of which allow to distinguish a truck from a car. Interestingly, the build-up of an American group in the Middle East was probably helped by “Gaofen-10R”, whose orbit passes through the territories over the Atlantic. Also over the Middle East flies “Gaofen-12” for radar reconnaissance, as well as “Gaofen-13” – an optical reconnaissance satellite in geostationary orbit. Is that all❓Of course, not. 🛰🇷🇺 There are also Russian spy satellites “Bars-M” No. 4 (Cosmos-2567 with ID 55990) flying over the Red Sea and the countries of the Middle East, and “Bars-M” No. 5 over the Atlantic. Both satellites were launched in 2023 and are equipped with the “Carat” optical-electronic system, which makes stereoscopic images. This allows to build not just flat pictures, but digital models of the terrain (3D maps of the area). In addition, directly over the Strait of Hormuz and the coastal waters of Iran flies one of the “Persona” satellites (Cosmos-2506, “Persona” No. 3). This is an analogue of the American KH-11 sub-meter range, designed for detailed examination of objects (resolution up to 30-50 cm). No less interesting is the orbit of “Lotus-C1”. This satellite, like the “Pion-NKS”, is part of the global space reconnaissance and targeting system “Liana” and flies between India, closer to Oman, where, by a surprising coincidence, an aircraft carrier group of the US Navy with the nuclear aircraft carrier “Lincoln” is currently operating. In the same areas, there are also satellite inspectors, which are often called interceptor satellites. Formally, they belong to the “Luch” relay system, but Western intelligence services classify them as spy satellites specializing in radio technical reconnaissance (SIGINT).

The big one for me is the distance between Ansarallah and the Abe Lincoln at Salalah. That and the tiny distance to Djibouti and Suez. Once these points are inaccessible, US ships can basically f off to Diego Garcia, India or beyond – or stay off the coast having their oilers attract submarines.

Maximum resolution is all fine but kill priority may be far simpler. If it’s a US base aand the blob is large enough for a hangar, mess hall, fuel tank or a large plane, just hit it. If it’s a busy plane parking lot or a sprawling industrial complex, hit it with cluster bombs.
I am still surprised they didn’t salt each base with 3-4 clusters a day, that would make refuelling, rearming basically impossible.

Therefore I take your Merkava tally with a huge grain of salt.

For the curious about these limping bad boys and how valuable resources (time, engineers, etc) are wasted on instead of building, its for destruction.

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) was commissioned on November 11, 1989
CPI = $5.9B
USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) was commissioned on July 22, 2017.
CPI = $31.2B

That’s many bridges, infrastructures, homelessness that could be spent on. If anyone traveled the states could see how its falling apart,  a third world country.

The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) lead ship in her class, stands as the pinnacle of modern naval engineering, redefining what it means to command the seas in the 21st century. As the lead ship of the Ford-class aircraft carriers, it represents decades of innovation, ambition, and the United States Navy’s commitment to global maritime dominance.

I see it as you do. I also wonder where the whole drama is heading to. My two cents are: if Iran doesn‘t surrender or agrees to some peace declaration from Trump (in which both sides can claim victory) and the missiles and drones keep coming, that either Israel or the US will use tactical nukes at one point.

Ron Unz compares the hypothetical Trumpistani attempt to seize Kharg Island to the battles of Dien Bien Phu and Singapore.

https://www.unz.com/runz/the-fall-of-singapore-dien-bien-phu-and-the-battle-for-kharg-island/

About the latter he says:

“…a Japanese general attacked it from the landward side, marching his men through what the British had regarded as totally impassable Malayan jungle.”

That Japanese general was Tomoyuki Yamashita, and the Brutish and Americans never forgave him for destroying the myth of Western invincibility at the battles of Malaya and Singpore. At war’s end he was the commander at the Battle of Manila, and was tried, condemned, and hanged for alleged atrocities committed by some troops under his command – not even his accusers proved he’d ordered said alleged atrocities or even had knowledge of them. One account called the prosecution and judges at his show trial a “howling lynch mob”.

Meanwhile those same Americans didn’t just not try the rabid Japanese medical experimenters of Unit 731, who made the nazi doctors look like innocents; in return for their medical experiment data, the Unit 731 savages were given jobs in American universities after the war.

A lot of this war is about petroenergy. EUrope is doing its part by steadily ramping up its activities against Russian trade. The more damage that Israel & America do to Iran, the less likely regime change, surrender or a negotiated settlement becomes. The US & Israel just attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations, so they are both demonstrably incapable of honouring a deal. Populaces tend to support their leaders when the country is being subjected to an unprovoked attack.

Well
It could be simply that the US seeks a quick win for the evening news and polls or
It could be that the US seeks to draw the IRGC into a trapped – to be drawn together for bombing or
It could be that they wish to force the patch-work defense to organize and communicate in a manner which makes them vulnerable to targeting or
Perhaps a concentrated attack will play on an inherent weakness of distributed defense.
We shall see.
The greatest strategic advantage of US so far has been the complete absense of any sense of humanity – fighting like wild animals, Iran not expecting.

Italy’s Defense Minister Guido Crosetto warns of severe upcoming consequences from the Iran war on Italy’s economy and daily life.

Guido Crosetto, Italy’s Defense Minister, stated that knowledge of potential events in the coming weeks related to the Iran war has left him sleepless due to their expected impacts on Italy’s economy and daily lives. His advisor Giancarlo Torlizzi previously indicated Europe would need energy austerity measures.

According to investor and economic commentator Neil McCoy-Ward, Australia and New Zealand could face drastic measures due to fuel shortages within a few weeks. In a video, he states that both countries are moving towards energy lockdowns. These will be worse than the lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic, he warns.

McCoy-Ward bases his statements on a combination of (partially leaked) government documents and analyses by the International Energy Agency (IEA), among others. Governments in both countries are currently modeling scenarios for severe disruptions to the energy supply.

“Iranians gathering on Qeshm Island at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. Singing in defiance.

Know what’s under their feet? An underground missile city with anti-ship missiles, mines, fast-attack craft and drones buried beneath salt caves and mangrove forests, designed for one primary purpose: to control or close the Strait of Hormuz. Military analysts call Qeshm Iran’s unsinkable aircraft carrier.

Empires have been fighting over this island since the Portuguese built a fort here in 1621. The British came, So did the Ottomans. They all left. The Epstein coalition bombed their desalination plant on March 7. Cut water to 30 villages. And the people of Qeshm are still there, still singing.

What I get from Gemini:

Based on polling conducted in March 2026, a high percentage of Americans are aware of the ongoing military conflict with Iran, though a significant portion remains unsure of the specifics or of the conflict’s direction.
Data from that period indicates:

  • High Awareness, Low Support: A large majority of Americans (roughly 88–90%) in March 2026 had heard at least a little about the U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iran, indicating awareness of the situation rather than ignorance of its existence.
  • Significant Confusion/Uncertainty: While aware of the conflict, roughly 30% of Americans were not sure about the situation or did not support the action, according to a February/March 2026 University of Maryland poll.
  • Concern Over Escalation: Rather than being unaware, most Americans are worried about the conflict, with 56% expecting the strikes to develop into a long-term conflict.

Apparently also, 21% support US military action against Iran.

Posted by: jared | Mar 30 2026 14:08 utc | 457

I suspect a larger % of the American population support Regime change Iran. However, they disagree with the Trump administration because they’ve not shown any concrete plan, goals, the war didn’t end as quickly as Maduro Venezuela raid and war is spiraling out of control that is hurting the apolitical class interests such as gas price and a possible conscription.

21% but on a spectrum of support or non support the real number should be 49% supportive if the war would be over in 1,2 weeks.

I agree with you that “Israel” will resort to nukes. However, Pakistan has made some strong statements about that, and they have their own nukes and quite a large armed forces.  So, if Pakistan were to fire a few at “Israel” the question becomes who fires next? Trump was talking about building a military complex below ground under the new Ballroom. You can guess his intention.

The White House asked the contractors to bid to build pre made bunker together with its specification of what they could withstand and submit a plan for 3 days, 15 days and 30 days delivery.

This is stupid because whoever the SOP for this military bid is retarded as it shows the people in charge lacked technical knowledge. People don’t make Precast Concrete units and lego assemble them in 3 – 15 days in the US doomsday bunker industry.

The US corps of the Engineer need to explain to the White House that Normal cement takes 30 days to cure completely. This is masonary 101. However, the military emilinated Masonary engineer MOS and retrained as Combat Engineers because I had first hand experience talking to them reclass back in the days.

To build a bunker within 3, 15 or 30 days need steel frames and I beams, Mold to hold hundred thousand pounds of concrete compounding with the weight of dirt and side pressure to prevent trench collapse.

The heavy machines and heavy equipment are scratter across the USA need to be hauled to the White House and the concrete manufacturers are in peak season and any plan always need leadtimes.

But more importantly, why the heck is it in Trump mind to build bunkers as quickly as possible under the Ballroom/military headquarters when the White House walls are already 2 feet thick?

Alon Mizrahi explained the Iranian thinking clearly. It makes sense.
But are those who influence Trump really that stupid or has smarter americans – this time – actually decided to punish both Israel, the jewish billionaires and the Epstein Class? Doesnt it look like that is what is happening? What hope is there for the Israelies now hiding in the shelters to anticipate anything but an Israeli state in ruins? Isnt it likely that both those who were in that blackmail condition and most everybody else wants retribution like that?
Since Trump belongs to that category it isnt as if he may necessarily be so sad about it.

Posted by: petergrfstrm | Mar 30 2026 14:57 utc | 448

I think the reason that the US public are not very supportive of this war is that the US media are surprisingly skeptical – either because the war is ill conceived or because media guidance has been poor and/or their seems to be some lack of consensus in the ranks. Trumps seems very dismissive of the media and the public – looks like he is trying to plunge through to the goal line, in advance of mid-terms. Perhaps he was hoping for a bounced – worked for Bush.

==================
Yes, but still in a figurative sense, I think.
Nonfiguratively, the Israeli military certainly seems to have infiltrated domestic law enforcement. For instance, I have read that the ICE agents are now being trained by the IDF. That might explain their current approach—and the extreme hostility that has developed toward ICE. (I am in favor of the mission of ICE, but recently I think they have botched things.)

Actual US bases on the territory of Occupied Palestine would surely lead to a de facto integration of US and Israeli military. It would also of course put US military directly in harm’s way of Iranian attacks, not to mention potential Resistance attacks. No wonder the oh-so-friendly IDF has extended this gracious invitation for US bases to relocate to Occupied Palestine. Just more advantages for them, and a more huge mess for the US.

because “we don’t know what the economic effects” of the Iran war will be. “We feel like our policy’s in a good place for us to wait and see how that turns out,” Powell said.

Apperently FED is unsure whether to raise or lower rates, at this point.
I guess we are now accepting the reality that Trump has committed the US to a “war”.
Oh well, so much for “The Constitution”.
And speaking of “useless” things – not hearing much from the UN. Can we let go of that myth, as well.

“But the videos almost everytime stop right after the hit. Never seen just one video of a cook off. Hardly any photographic evidence of destroyed tanks in stark contrast to the Ukraine war where you find thousands of destroyed tanks and ifv/apc.Therefore I take your Merkava tally with a huge grain of salt.”
Exactly.

For the first time since the USS Coral Sea disaster during the Vietnam War, or the USS Wisconsin main battery explosion, a USN main combat vessel is out of service, in need of years of repair work, after combat damage in this case.

The USS Gerald R. Ford is now tied up in Split, Croatia undergoing emergency structural repairs after the strike by Iranian or Houthi anti ship missiles.  Its now unseaworthy.  Billions of dollars in damages have been inflicted on the most expensive warship ever built by any nation.

This is a major event – a USN nuclear aircraft carrier has suffered catastrophic damage, is most likely out of action for years (it could possibly be scrapped, although the blowback from a decision like that would be enormous).

Such is the law of unintended consequences when the US moves haphazardly in the ME without a clue as to final outcomes.

Now we have one USN CSG totally out of commission, and another out of range in the Arabian Sea after undergoing near constant missile attacks from the IRGC strategic missile forces.

Be careful what you wish in DC!

The Houthis have not closed their straits….yet.

But they could and will at any moment if the escalation from the Zionist fascists in Tel Aviv and the US grows.

Again this situation is so fluid, and so unpredictable that no one can forsee the eventual outcome….WWIII beckons…..

It depends on the weapons used if you get a nice cookoff video. Ukraine and Russia often field both recon drones and FPV attack drones. You only see the hit on the recon. Hezbollah probably due to the hit-and-run tactics doesn’t have the recon lingering.
Antitank launchers rarely ever take videos of their hits.
Make of that what you will, just don’t claim no pics, didn’t happen..

Tehran downs American fighter jet, presumably an F-35.

According to the Mehr news agency, an American fighter jet was shot down over the western part of the Iranian capital. According to initial reports, it may have been an F-35 fifth-generation fighter.

The calculus is simple: 1. Were Iran to capitulate, it will suffer exactly the fate you described. 2. If Iran fights to the end, it will either: a) Defeat the USA, and even a pyrrhic victory is good here  b) Leave the USA so weakened that its military will be unable to exploit a victory  c) leave the USA so weakened, that even if it could occupy Iran, the combined collapse across Syria, Iraq, Lebanon will shortly lead to its defeat in the middle east d) leave the USA so weakened that China’s rise and dominance over the West will be assured, marking the rollback of US hegemony over West Asia. In short: It serves Iran’s long term survival to fight to the very end, while capitulation serves neither long nor short term survival.

It isn’t don’t fight and get destroyed or fight and not get destroyed. Iran can get destroyed either way. Israel and the USA have a lot of bombs and are led by  pathological people and in many cases sadistic people. Even if the USA and Israel give up in 6 months, Iran will still have taken a massive amount of damage and casualties. Once the USA and Israel turn  their massive arsenals on you, you are screwed even if people later claim “you won” because they stopped bombing or left the scene.

what they won’t achieve,  even if Iran is rubble,  is a “failed state”…
however,  I can think of 5 off the top,  that will,  in fact,  become failed states b4 this ends.

Theoden:“The crops can be re-sown, the homes re-built. Within these walls… we will outlast them.”
Aragorn:”They do not come to destroy Rohan’s crops or villages. They come to destroy its people. Down to the last child.”
Outlast them they will… with their people.

It’s all one plight. All one people. All one resistance.  Your Western lens blinds you, IMO.

Re: cook-off of Merkavas ?

the pro-genociders are arguing that all of those ~1,000 Merkavas hit were only damaged. 🤣

BTW – Renk‘s CEO was quoted some months ago that Renk was swamped with orders for Merkava gearboxes.

Hezbollah forces target 3 Israeli “Merkava” tanks on the outskirts of the town of Dibil in southern Lebanon.@PressTV

Link to the video for further analysis:
https://t.me/presstv/182717

These three were not hit with drones.

They’re hit with some form of RPG or larger shoulder launched rocket.

No close range post cookoff video, but judging by the explosion intensity, lack of movement after the strikes, continued burn, I think we can conclude these tanks are more than “damaged”.

Let’s just say their crews aren’t coming back to the battlefield this decade.

Based on the numbers I’ve seen “destroyed” over the last 2  1/2 years vs production figures it is likely that Israel repairs tanks that both USA and Ukraine would consider lost and abandon.
Considering it takes about a year to fully train a modern tank crew, it is likely that they run out of well trained crews, before they run out of tanks.  That is as long as the production and repair facilities are still functional.

King Donald the First of Terratrump (formerly known as “Earth”) wants the biggest and bestest castle ever. And for a proper castle, 2-foot thick walls are rather unimpressive.

@488 Arch. Bungle:

These are anti-tank guided missiles.  Hezbollah has Saegre 2–an Iranian-made copy of the old M47 Dragon (U.S.), Iranian and possibly Russian “Malyutka” for the retro set, the old fashioned 9K111 “Fagot,” the Konkurs, copies of the Konkurs made in Iran, The Metis-M, the Kornet, and the Iranian-made Toophan copy the hoary old TOW. Some of these are so-called “top attack” missiles, where the armor is thinner, and that may be what was posted in the resistance video?

494 – The censorship reminds me of the Irish Free State’s during WW2. An Anglo-Irish officer serving in the British Royal Navy was killed when the HMS Hood blew up. The Eire newspapers attributed his death to a “boating accident”.

The US Armed Forces aren’t going to come into Iran like the Russian did into Ukraine.
Most likely they’ll be deployed for special ops like radioactive materials containment and transport at Bushehr (several sources have point out that the 82nd sent specialized unitsvin that area). Or as combat support  for Iranian Counter-revolutionary operations.
I don’t expect this to be a conventional incursion. I haven’t heard anyone mention the sonic weapons used in Venezuela. The forces facing  them did not want to do it again. One should consider those weapons appeared to be man-portable devices; which to me suggest there are more advanced versions that could be mounted on helicopters.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Newsmax on Monday that concern for the safety of worshippers was the only reason Palm Sunday Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was denied, adding that he “immediately instructed” the Latin patriarch be allowed to conduct services at the church going forward.

In an interview with Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy, Netanyahu pushed back on international criticism, saying the decision stemmed solely from urgent security threats as Iran continues to target Jerusalem with missile fire.

“What happened was that Iran has been firing missiles at the Old City of Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said, noting that fragments from recent attacks landed dangerously close to the church and other sacred sites.

President Trump is going to address the nation tonight and give an important Iran war update, so the White House says. He is highly likely to say either one of two things. Either the war is over, we won, and we are leaving (TACO), or that the war will escalate and ground troops are needed. My money will be on the first, but we will see.
