U.S.-Iran – A War Of Aggressions Which Aims Can Not Be Achieved

Yesterday the Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, the mediator in talks between the U.S. and Iran, revealed that Iran had offered unprecedented restrictions of its nuclear program to prevent a war.

During a CBS interview he explained:

MINISTER ALBUSAIDI: I am confident, and in my assessment of the way the talks are going, I think there is, really I can see that the peace deal is within our reach.

MARGARET BRENNAN: A peace deal?

MINISTER ALBUSAIDI: Yes, is within our reach, if we just allow diplomacy the space it needs to get there. Because I don’t think any alternative to diplomacy is going to solve this problem.

MINISTER ALBUSAIDI: The single most important achievement, I believe, is the agreement that Iran will never, ever have a nuclear material that will create a bomb. This is, I think, a big achievement. This is something that is not in the old deal that was negotiated during President Obama’s time. This is something completely new. It really makes the enrichment argument less relevant, because now we are talking about zero stockpiling. And that is very, very important, because if you cannot stockpile material that is enriched then there is no way you can actually create a bomb, whether you enrich or don’t enrich. And I think this is really something that has been missed a lot by the media, and I want to clarify that from the standpoint of a mediator.

MARGARET BRENNAN: So explain that. So the enriched material, things that could be used as nuclear fuel for a bomb, you’re saying Iran would not keep on their own soil?

MINISTER ALBUSAIDI: They would give it up.

To give up stockpiling enriched material of various grades is a concession that Iran has never before made. It would indeed make it impossible for it to create a nuclear bomb.

The U.S. however was not interested in a nuclear deal. Hours after Albusadi’s interview it joined Israel in a “pre-emptive” war on Iran.

jeremy scahill @jeremyscahill – 7:18 UTC · Feb 28, 2026

The term “preemptive” is pure propaganda. The U.S. once again used the veneer of negotiations as a cover to bomb Iran. Tehran had just offered terms that went far beyond the 2015 nuclear deal. What was preempted was diplomacy. The same propaganda tactics used in 2003 Iraq war.

Badral Abusaidi was left to expressed his disappointment:

Badr Albusaidi – بدر البوسعيدي @badralbusaidi – 12:04 UTC · Feb 28, 2026

I am dismayed. Active and serious negotiations have yet again been undermined. Neither the interests of the United States nor the cause of global peace are well served by this. And I pray for the innocents who will suffer. I urge the United States not to get sucked in further. This is not your war.

U.S. President Trump thought differently. In an 8 minutes long speech (vid) he announced several war aims like the destruction of Iran’s missiles, the destruction of its navy and to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons it does not want. He called on the armed forces of Iran to lay down their weapons and for its people to overthrow its government.

For the Islamic Republic the war is thereby not about mere defense – but existential.

As none of Trump’s strategic objectives is likely to be achieved one might already argue that the U.S. has little chance but to lose this war.

So far the exchange of strikes has run along its predictable course.

The U.S. and Israel launched stand-off cruise-missiles against political and military targets in Iran. The compound of the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran, the Ministry of Intelligence, the Ministry of Defense, the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency, the Parchin military complex were hit. Iran’s leadership had moved to safe places and was not affected by the strikes. A missile destroyed the house of the former president Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, who has no role in the current government, and killed three of his guards. Several missiles, says Iran, have hit an elementary school in Minab, south Iran, and killed up to 60 children.

Iran responded by attacking U.S. military installations in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates with hundreds of drones and shorter range missiles. A long range U.S. radar in Qatar was hit as were U.S. Navy fuel depots in Bahrain. Several salvos of tens of medium range missiles were fired against U.S positions in Jordan as well as against Israel.

These first salvos with older, less accurate missiles are intended to draw out U.S. air-defenses and to entice them to expend their limited missiles supplies. There have been reports of several explosions in various places in the Middle East but it is too early to assess if these are the consequences of falling debris or real intended results.

One target hit by the U.S. side was the headquarter of the Hashid Shaabi popular mobilization forces in Iraq. It killed several people. Following that Hashid Shaabi announced to join the fight on Iran’s side. Missiles have hit U.S. positions in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan.

The Houthi in Yemen as well as Hizbullah in Lebanon are expected to also join in the fight.

The exchange of missile strikes is expected to continue over several days. the U.S. will try to eliminate Iranian missile launchers and production facilities. Iran will try to exhaust U.S. missile defenses to then launch its more precise and effective missiles against Israel and major U.S. (naval) targets. Iran already claims to have hit a U.S. supply ship.

But Iran’s main instrument in this war will be its control over the transport of 20% of the world’s oil supplies.

It has just announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Michael A. Horowitz @michaelh992 – 15:30 UTC · Feb 28, 2026

#Breaking an official with the EU naval mission Aspides says vessels have been receiving transmission from Iran’s revolutionary guards saying no ship is allowed to pass the strait of Hormuz

Iran can control the Straits by simply firing land-based anti ship missiles.

By Monday fuel prices will have gone through the roof.

Oil prices are the major pressure point Iran has to cause effects within the U.S.

One wonders how long President Trump can sustain the war if the price of gasoline goes up and stays high.

When you consider what Kuwait, Saudi Arabia (which has experience with Yemen) and Qatar must have shot down, given that they use the same US wonder weapons, the picture is impressive.
Of course, Ukraine is even more efficient, as it regularly shoots down more than the Russians send.

🇮🇷 🇮🇱 🇺🇸 In its third statement, the IRGC said that the third and fourth waves of True Promise 4 are being continuously fired at this moment, adding that more advanced missiles are being deployed in the third and fourth waves than those of True Promise 3, and are more precise and destructive.
According to the statement, targets include the Israeli occupation army’s naval base and military naval yard in Haifa.
The targets also include Ramat David Air Base and the Ministry of War in HaKirya, the military-industrial settlement of Bet Shemesh and a military-industrial facility in Ashdod.

The strike forced the ship out of service, the statement said, adding that the vessel’s mission was to transport ammunition to US ships in the Port of Jebel Ali, UAE.

The US naval base at Abdullah Al-Mubarak Air Base was targeted with four ballistic missiles, the statement said, adding that the base was also targeted with 12 drones, leading to the destruction of the totality of the main infrastructure.

The targeting of the US base also led to deaths and injuries among US troops, the statement said.

According to the statement, the MST combat support vessel was also targeted with missiles, explaining that its mission was to refuel US ships in the Indian Ocean.

But my impression is that it’s the people who thought the US wouldn’t dare risk the closure of the strait we maybe should call “dipshits.” And I think the jury is still out on whether people in DC who calculated America could survive a closure of the straits better than others were “dipshits.” It’s like the saying, you don’t have to be faster than the bear.

Not sure whose responsible for that, Khomeini or the civilian government, but if he gets killed because of this then its a FATAL mistake. Just like his previous fatwahs against nukes.

If the Iranian gov survives this campaign, I do hope they get their head out of their ass and do actual pre emptive strikes to destroy war assets and enemy leaders like in an actual war. Not these showy strikes against infrastructure after the enemy already launched their payloads and hid inside bunkers.

It never occurred to me to doubt that the strait could be physically closed, without the US able to do much to open it. I was thinking of the internal stresses on the Iranian bourgeoisie, who have already trended for years to capitulationism, as far as I know. Not everyone suffers equally in a war, but people with fortunes feels that pain intensely…and there are few or no limits on what they’ll do to end it, including betraying the country.

Khomeini died in 1989 of old age. And it was his fatwah that prohibited the use of WMDs by Iran due to the horrors of chemical warfare in the Iran-Iraq war. Khamenei may or may not be alive, but the infrastructure put in place by Khomeini is designed to outlive one person.

Amazing isn’t it how missile strikes that hit schools nearly always hit kindergartens/elementary/primary schools.   High Schools and Universities seem less afflicted.
Posted by: yarpos | Mar 1 2026 0:13 utc | 573

Maybe some propaganda involved, but one answer is that universities have sprawling campuses, much easier to see by satellite. High schools as well. Elementary schools tend to be smaller, so more difficult to discern.

The Americans have always targeted the soft targets. The civilian sector. Every war, every time. The Russians and Soviets before them target the harder targets. The military targets.

The Americans thought targeting civilians in Yemen would cause them to fold. The people of Yemen are made of harder stuff. Vietnam the same. The Americans slaughtered civilians but they did not fold. Korea the Americans bombed every city, every town, every village but still they did not fold.

I don’t have evidence one way or the other about the radar in Qatar, claimed to have been destroyed, maybe it was and maybe it wasn’t, but the photos of “before” and “after” almost prove it wasn’t destroyed. One person here mentioned that the shadows were the same between the two. The “before” was said to have been taken last year. What I see in the two images is… gee… not only are all the shadows the same, but the three vehicles parked there last year were all parked in the exact same places this year? Same vehicles, same parking places, same angles, and no other vehicles parked anywhere in either photo. Why bother to make a fake if it really was hit?

Posted by: malenkov | Mar 1 2026 0:24 utc | 580 My statement doesn’t need defending. You’re mistaken about that, as you so often are, when you venture to actually say anything. It’s your idiotic assumption that countries that haven’t fought a war in decades can stand up in a head-to-head fight with the American armed forces. But yes, you’re right about having a bad day, I’m extremely upset about yet another shameful episode in American history, a country that I do love and therefore want to be decent and honorable, instead of this. I’m not like you, chowing down on microwave popcorn amused by the show.

And if you must limit your self to brainless comments, try doing them like this:

Masih Alinejad announced that the death of Khamenei is a “day of celebration.” At last, she will no longer be tormented by rape fantasies.

That’s still a cheap shot, but you’re intellectually bankrupt, cheap is all you can afford.

The news that the Ali Khamenei was assassinated is meant to stir the traitors in Iran and demoralize the armed forces.

There are already footage of dancing Iranians in Tehran but this could all be staged.

Trump is repeating that most of the Iranian leadership are gone.

The “prove you’re alive” crowd just want to have a second shot if they only knew where you are.

The Iranian response is picking up steam. A ship of the Palestinian coast just got hit.

Drones flying unimpeded over Bahrain. Iran is going for complete destruction of 5th Fleet HQ and facilities.

Regime change in the GCC and Jordan could be a real outcome of this US misadventure.

Posted by: Suresh | Mar 1 2026 0:40 utc | 562

The US approach is always to target leadership, instead of the culture. It doesn’t work; leadership is interchangeable. Khamenei succeeded Khomeini with the same policy. Whether Khamenei is dead or not is immaterial. Short of an actual military occupation Iran will still oppose the US.

I’ve heard of similar thoughts as this but strongly disagree. You can get incompetent leaders dime a dozen but competent leaders are one in a million. Such brazen attitudes to personal security only helps the Americans. You kill enough leaders eventually you’ll end up with incompetent third rates or cowards who’d sell out their country. Raisi and Soleimani were the best Iran produced in generations, if they were still alive I have no doubt diplomatically, militarily Iran would be in a much better position than it is today.

Ps I saw the Khomeini error when I hit send however it should be obvious I was referring to Khamenei in the context of previous posts.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in its fourth statement that the fifth wave of True Promise 4 has expanded operations beyond previously declared targets, striking US naval and logistical assets across the region.

The IRGC stated that the Abdullah Al-Mubarak Air Base in Kuwait was targeted with four ballistic missiles. The base was also struck by 12 drones, leading to the destruction of its main infrastructure.

The statement added that the strike on the US base resulted in the killing and injury of a large number of US forces.

Closing the hormuz is an obvious necessity and pedophile and his criminal gang have a plan vis s vis hormuz. Another spaniard in the works would be to close the suez canal by sinking a vessel in its midst. Bet that would rile pedophile to a heart attack by ruining the american economy. Closing the Suez canal would be an even larger obstacle than hormuz. Wouldn’t be too difficult to arrange!

Merriam-Webster defines “experienced” as “made skillful or wise through experience.” The US Armed forces have meddled in lots of countries — and frequently got its collective asses handed to them by countries that were hardly peer opponents — but obviously learned only one thing in the process: War is a great moneymaker for the MIC, on whose boards most high brass end up serving after retirement.

Now compare this to the Russian Armed Forces, which are fighting off a NATO proxy army (with enough NATO armaments that NATO states are now severely underdefended) with increasing success.

And Britain and France? Well, if you want to be the next Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, be my guest!

Well, it’s not hard to proofread a post. You should try it. As for leadership – incompetency or competency, it doesn’t really matter. The system is the key. How many horrible emperors did Rome have, yet the system endured. Yes, it did eventually collapse, but through systemic issues. If a system is durable, it can outlast incompetent leadership. The Islamic regime in Iran has passed through several leaders, same with North Korea, so they both seem durable.

Anybody who is asking for a public appearance is working for the same group of Israelis/Israeli-Americans that brutally sacrificed over 100 grade-school-girls to Ba’al earlier today.  But, honestly, if he is killed it will just give the Iranian Military more political power to do what needs to done.  So Israelis/Israeli-Americans, be careful what you wish for..you might just get it…good and hard.

The Islamic regime is claiming more than 50+ “martyrs” were killed at a girls school in Minab …except they forgot to mention that the school is literally part of the Asif corps of the IRGC on base, which was targeted. Not only that, it’s also being used as an IRGC admin, command and medical facility at this time.
Meanwhile, Anti-regime media has said no students were killed nor was the school itself the target.

Suddenly all those in here calling the statement from Israel and Trump a lie and a deception have become very quiet upon the news that Khamenei is no more. Not that it matters much, I knew that this type of escalation is exactly what is wanted at this point, but it’s still always interesting to see how people in this forum insist often with veiled insults that their views are true only to be proven wrong just hours later. Binary thinking…just not a good way of understanding the world.

Posted by: Johnny B | Mar 1 2026 1:56 utc | 596

Just make ZERO sense to me that, with so much US Navy over there, and Trump threatening to attack Iran, that the Supreme Leader of Iran would convene with his top leaders and military personnel all in a large group in some open location, as opposed to a bunker, or them all being dispersed around Iran and meeting online for their own protection. Really that dumb? Hard to believe. Is the Supreme Leader still alive? Are the top generals still alive? Will they retaliate against Israel with all the missiles and drones that they purportedly have? Are there Iranian terrorists here in the USA, that will now take severe action against the US government? I guess we’ll find out in the days or week to come.
