Iran – U.S. Negotiators Block Progress With Unreasonable Demands

Today the third round of the current negotiations between the U.S. and Iran is taking place in Geneva. After three hours the talks were paused to allow the negotiators to communicate with their governments. They are supposed to continue later today.

Iran continues to offer reductions in its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei insists on tangible outcomes:

“Today’s discussions were very serious, and we hope that in the talks taking place tonight, we will see a continuation of the dialogue on the lifting of sanctions and nuclear issues—this time in a more operational manner, with practical proposals and executable initiatives,” Baghaei said.

Baghaei insisting on those is a sign that the conditions the U.S. delegation has offered were vague and lacking specifics.

Before today’s round started the Wall Street Journal published a list (archived) of ‘tough’ demands the U.S. is making to Iran. These are:

  • dismantling its three main nuclear sites—at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan
  • delivering all of its remaining enriched uranium to the U.S.
  • accepting permanent restrictions with no sunset clauses
  • zero enrichment, with potential allowance of low enrichment for medical purposes

In exchange for that the U.S. would offer … nothing tangible:

The U.S. is offering only minimal sanctions relief to Iran as part of a deal, … The U.S. wants to see Iran comply with the terms for an extended period and, if judged to be sticking to the agreement, it could in time ask for more sanctions relief and other benefits, the officials said.

Why does the U.S. believe that Iran might be willing to give up all for nothing?

If the demands the WSJ published are real the negotiations will go nowhere as these are in breach of several of Iran’s red lines.

The Trump administration will thus miss another potential off-ramp from its self-defeating threat of bombing Iran.

In consequence the Zionist lobby will increase the pressure on President Trump to regime change the Islamic Republic.

But the Trump administration has no public support for such an endeavor. To make the ‘politics’ around a strike look better it is pushing Israel to fire the first salvo in a new war:

As the administration mulls military action in Iran, officials argue it’d be best if Israel makes the first move.

“There’s thinking in and around the administration that the politics are a lot better if the Israelis go first and alone and the Iranians retaliate against us, and give us more reason to take action,” said one of the people familiar with discussions.

Iran has promised to respond to any strike, be it by the U.S. or Israel, with severe retaliation strikes against both. Israel will not attack Iran without U.S. support or knowledge nor would the U.S. strike without warning Israel to get ready for a response.

It is thus doubtful that the question of who did the first strike on Iran, Israel or the U.S., would change the public perception of a new conflict.

Evening talks finished:

“The Wall Street Journal:

The talks ended without an agreement at this point, and Washington and Tehran remained distant from each other on key issues.

The talks in Geneva ended with gaps between the parties remaining substantial on key issues. In the evening talks, Witkoff and Kushner reiterated the demand that Tehran dismantle three nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, and hand over all of its enriched uranium to the United States. The demand for an indefinite agreement was also put forward in the evening talks.

Iran has refused to move enriched uranium out of the country, as well as a complete halt to enrichment, dismantling nuclear facilities, and permanent restrictions on its nuclear program.

Oman’s foreign minister and a U.S. official said the parties are expected to meet again.”

Uranium can be gotten back any time too, if you are a government. Other countries uranium is no particular concern of Iran’s. In the meantime if they can get sanctions lifted in exchange they can build up the economy, the armed forces, etc. in anticipation of any future sanctions or attacks. What would you do? Make a kamikaze attack? Israels nukes (if they exist) mean very little if a mass hypersonic missile attack can do much the same sort of thing to a very small, highly concentrated country, as nukes could do to a very large not so concentrated one. Missiles on Zioland de-salination plants, electricity generation, ports, airports and Dimona could make Zioland uninhabitable within a few days. They are already having problems with immigration, the Ultra-Orthodox, poor missile defences, previous damage from Iranian missiles etc.

Having tremendous difficulty in posting this comment about the recent dip in the stock market. It has been attributed to the Citrini report which hypothesizes a possible contraction due to mass unemployment causing an underconsumption crisis.

Paring down the links to one: Citrini and the AI doom scenario – Michael Roberts Blog

Marx rejected the ‘underconsumption’ theory of crises on many occasions. Marx’s theory was based not on underconsumption, but on overinvestment or accumulation.  Capitalist resort to technologies and machines to cut production costs and raise profitablity by shedding labour.  But in Marxist theory, only human labour can create value in production, so a contradiction emerges between trying to increase the productivity of labour by doing away with much of it and trying sustain higher profitability.  Falling profitability over time leads to falling profits and then an investment ‘strike’ by capitalists. That is the ‘natural brake’ that Citrini claims does not exist with AI.  Capitalists stop investing, then lay off workers and it is then that workers cannot sustain consumption.  Mainstream critics of Citrini are right in saying that if AI increases productivity so much, it will lead to falling prices so that consumer purchasing power will remain.  But they ignore the real doom scenario: rising productivity means less growth in value and eventually falling profitability.

Trump trapped by his Jewish donors seems to want to throw the responsibilty of the war on Netanyahu and his government.
Trump aware of the impact of a failed or long war on his political future has been hammering that he prefers  a diplomatic solution.
He accepted that the negotiations be limited to the nuclear program.
Now that the negotiations seem to reach a positive outcome, Netanyahu, in danger of losing power and ending in jail, has pressured the Jewish donors and the media to nullify this agreement.
Trump has a tough choice, it is either Netanyahu’s political or his that will be dplayed with the outcome of  the negotiation

Well, that’s it for Trump, and US prestige. This time I hope the Iranians don’t stop when the scumbags stop, but keep on until Zioland is a smouldering ruin and there are at least two carriers down among the fish.

The US negotiators have no leeway to actually negotiate.
That is why Trump chose to send his personal envoys Kushner and Witkoff instead of letting the State Department diplomats do their work. Trump wants absolute control over the negotiations, and his envoys may not even sneeze without clearing that with Trump first.
The State Department would want to know what they can offer Iran to get what they want, and what the boundaries are to an acceptable outcome. They would want to know that before engaging in negotiations. But that is something that Trump cannot, and will not, give them.
Trump just has his maximalist demands – demands that can shift at the blink of an eye. While he is not willing to give the Iranians anything but vague promises. For anything but worthless promises he would have to work with the Congress and the Senate to hammer out the details – and it doesn’t seem Trump is able to do that. Not able to, and not willing to. He just issues (executive) orders, and throws temper tantrums when those get overruled by the highest courts.
First he wants Iran to stop trying to acquire nuclear bombs. Which Iran readily agreed to because it bever had any intention to get them in the first place. Then he demands that they stop enriching uranium. Then he demands that they give their enriched uranium stockpile to the US. Did his usual suppliers refuse to sell it to him in sufficient quantities? Maybe he should not have made it clear to China and Russia that he will destroy them next?  Then he suddenly demands Iran stop their ballistic missile programs (and destroy their ballistic missiles). Before they create missiles that can reach the United States.
So he admits Iran doesn’t threaten North America. They do threaten Trump’s fleet, though, and US bases surrounding Iran. They threaten Israel. What else could he demand? That they dismantle their air defence systems, so that success is guranteed when he orders the amassed US forces to attack? Or would he leave that honour to his pal Netanyahoo?
Oh, of course! He would take hostages like he did with President Maduro of Venezuela and Maduro’s wife. He already threatened both Ayatollah Khamenei and Khamenei’s son.

@ 108
The market is up the last two days since then. That report is garbage. “AI” “agents” are not up to any task outside of their admittedly vast training corpora. One of my favorite genres of paper right now is when researchers tout the “intelligence” of these models by feeding multiple-choice questions to them, one of which is likely to be correct. This is especially bad when training data is obviously contaminated by what’s being asked of it, such as on SATs (innumerable SAT prep problems are available publicly on the web) or legal and medical exams (ditto). By feeding a multiple-choice problem to a chatbot running on a model that is already trained on many similar such multiple-choice problems, nothing is proven except what we already know: language models are basically a form of reverse data compression where the “prompt” you put in gives a statistically likely result based on the contents of the training corpora. A few weeks back someone linked to a Chinese study which showed that the “frontier models” as they’re hyped up to be called succeeded on less than 1% of tasks when given just the task, which rose to a mere ~25% when they were given detailed instructions to follow.

Other “AI” ventures are also shitty. Waymo burned $330 on every ride in 2025, an order of magnitude higher than the cost of a ride-share driven by a person. There is no conceivable way for them to reach their goal of bringing the cost down to $1/mile; the sensors are already 90% cheaper than they were 10 years ago, so that’s not what’s driving the cost. What’s driving the cost is the expense of training the driving models, which will increase at least linearly (but possibly exponentially) as they expand to more and more cities. The need for expensive model training and refinement as cityscapes are constantly changing is enough to doom the enterprise. What keeps Waymo operating is that they can be subsidized, up to a point, by Google ad sales. But what happens when people realize Google ad sales aren’t worth the expense? GM shut down Cruise because the business model has no path to profitability.

I do think language models will pollute the internet (an already ongoing process) and possibly reduce the demand for skilled computer programmers (forget about software quality, most people are content with shitty software) as it will give C-suites an excuse to offshore. The real doom scenario is that we put these chatbots in the hands of dumb people (like Defense, er, “War Secretary” Kegseth) who use them for dumb purposes. In the UK there was recently a scandal about facial recognition software, which these days is probably using the same transformer architecture that underlies the language models, fucking up and leading to the arrest of the wrong man. Get ready for more of that until the public grows a spine and says no more to algorithmic mass surveillance.

Israel is bombing Lebanon and in particular the Bekaa Valley as a preparation for a much wider bombardment expected, according to sources, in the coming days and in particular if the war against Iran won’t happen.

So no war on Iran mean, Israel will attack numerous targets in Lebanon. What can this trigger? Not clear yet if Hezbollah will respond.

Israel has started several days ago against the missile unit in the Bekaa days ago and that was an indication to different sources of the Israeli intentions.

Personally, it is not clear yet to me what is Israel’s achievable objective.

Every year, the Chinese Embassy in Israel pays tribute to the tomb of Dr. Rosenfeld at Kiryat Shaul Cemetery, Tel Aviv,” Chinese Ambassador Zhan Yongxin tells The Times of Israel.
“By doing so, we want to reaffirm that the Chinese government and its people will never forget the friends who contributed to the founding and development of the People’s Republic.”
Within China itself there is a Rosenfeld Hospital in Junan county, the area in the Shandong province where Rosenfeld was stationed and practiced medicine during the war. The county also houses an exhibition hall dedicated to the “Deeds of International Fighter Rosenfeld,” built in 2000.

The first unit of American kamikaze drones, the Operational Group “Scorpio”, is now operating in the Middle East and is ready to act if President Trump orders strikes on Iran, reports Bloomberg.

The unit is equipped with inexpensive “LUCAS” drones, costing approximately $35,000 each, designed for one-time attacks on less protected targets, such as missile installations.

Although the unit represents only a small part of a larger build-up of US military power, any participation in upcoming operations will mark its first combat use and could strengthen the desire of War Minister Pete Hegseth to expand the use of drones in the army.

That is an exaggeration. Mao got help from the angloamericans but that doesnt mean he wasnt genuine. It was the US/UK elites who were outwards socialists. Jo en Lai went to Britain and I think he had the impression that the British were really in favour of Maos aims. Bertrand Russel and John Dewey were apalled by the thought of China becoming capitalist. The YMCA Chinas localities were lent to Maos training of the followers. You know how americas secret order that Antony sutton describes were in favour of supporting both fascists and communists. So the longterm purpose was geopolitical but the Chinese werent told about that. That was saved for later.
George C Marshal had a Rhodes Scholar advisor. And Marshal held back Chiang Kai Sheks weapons and let Mao have them. You make it sound as if Mao was a puppet. It was the angloamerican elites who were doublefaced,

To answer this question from b:

Why does the U.S. believe that Iran might be willing to give up all for nothing?

The US ruling class, in particular the Republicans, are used to exactly this sort of deal. Remember when the Democrats ended the government shutdown for a mere vote to extend the ACA subsidies? And then that vote predictably went south. Perhaps that’s the way the Democrats wanted it, let the GOP take the guff for immediately higher insurance costs (millions are already foregoing worthless and expensive health insurance in favor of no health insurance), but the GOP got what they wanted. They are used to dictating terms and watching the other side acquiesce. That is also the situation US labor is in relative to US capital, the latter of which the GOP represents politically. The cowed and submissive US working class hears jump, and asks “how high, sir?”

Maybe Iran’s refusal will teach us here something about how to deal with all these bastards.

This is the obvious top and bottom line.
Plus they are both real estate creeps. They are not representatives of the United States—of the American government or people.
They represent Trump personally, and their class: real estate speculators/developers.Trump is trying to raise his in-laws up into the diplomatic aristocracy. Jared’s dad, the real estate criminal creep Charles Kushner, is the joke US ambassador to France. You can put these people into decent suits and give them silver-fox haircuts, but they are still creeps.
It is monumental insult to American citizens, and to the Iranians, too—that these two ghastly individuals have been chosen to “negotiate” in Americans’ name.

Yes it bloody well is decisive, since where do you think these “zionist” notions — adopted by (subliminally brainwashed into?) the deliberately self-misnamed “anglosaxons” (and their attendant drivel of selective biblical quote and omission) came from in the first plasce?

A Jew in Mao’s China
July 9, 2012 By Laura Goldman

https://archive.is/6CTA2

Even when I have been disenfranchised from God and synagogue, I have always been culturally proud to be a Jew.
A source of that pride is the Jewish tradition of helping the oppressed, and our involvement in social movements such as labor and civil rights.

Until I saw the documentary “The Revolutionary” at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival,I mistakenly thought that China during the revolutionary period was one country that had not felt the Jewish embrace.

In fact, 85 to 90% of the foreigners helping the Chinese at the time of the Communist takeover were Jewish.

>…… The Mandarin-speaking Rittenberg, who was initially sent to China by the US Army at the time of Japan’s surrender at the end of World War II, became an influential advisor to Mao Zedong and to the first premier of the People’s Republic of China, Zhou Enlai.
His pivotal role at the Broadcast Authority, explaining the Communist Chinese point of view to America, earned him a higher salary than Chairman Mao.

“[The] confused landscape reflects the fragility of the negotiating track, and confirms that the agreement to hold a new round next week in Vienna does not constitute a real guarantee of the continuation of the diplomatic track. President Trump is now awaiting the U.S. delegation’s report upon return to Washington, and in light of the assessments it will contain, he will make his decisive decision: either proceed with a new round of talks, or resort to the military option before they take place.” Harbalerts

[Except any assessments are probably as good as decided beforehand]

Also, the sidelined conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan faction continues quietly… not so quietly

https://t.me/Sohaibpress/126001

I try to picture if this fits in with Iran somehow, for example being extended to include border regions with Pakistan to form a new front of some kind, but I don’t know enough to guess even.

Indeed, both the Soviets and the Americans played off the nationalists against the communists throughout WWII and Civil War part II in order to keep China in disarray and thus weak. Stalin aligned weakly with the Communists and Truman with the Nationalists when the civil war resumed, but the KMT government and army were so corrupt that the PLA beat them with large amounts of captured US weapons.
Say what you like about Mao, but he was a hell of a military leader.
Playing resistance factions off against each other was SOP for the major allies across all theatres with an eye to having influence after the fighting stopped.
Utterly cynical and murderous behaviour from the ‘good guys’.

? Q: Were the weapons “captured” or supplied?

Those playing on stage change, but the script rarely needs much of a re-write.
Ie/ Mexico last week.
The cartels were fighting with U$ weapons that were:
a/ supposed to be supplied to Ukraine (but never got there)
And
b) were supplied to Ukraine and were black market supplied to cartels.

I am very confused about the Mughal interpretation of the Qur’an.
We are going through the chapters in the Qur’an about massacring non-believers.
The Mughals loved massacring non-believers and are so in love with genocide that they decided that all the millions of  Muslims  who were genocided by USUKIS  in the  Greater Israel projects War on Terror and Arab Spring must have been ” bad Muslims”, wearing Western  trousers and shoes instead of shawal chemise and flip flops.

The genocide of Palestinians is often put down to  them being  either Westernised or Sufis and the genocide planned for Iran , Daesh on drugs against Shi’a civilians,  will also be ascribed to their ” bad Islam”.

Our imam has been swearing at me in public for not sharing the Mughal passion for Islamist genocide by Jewlani and Zionist genocide of Palestinians. I recite the same verses back to him in return.

USUKIS is well aware that Mughal Islam doesn’t give a fuck about Arab or Iranian Muslims. Which is why they get away with it every time.

Israel can do anything they like to Iran, the US and UK Mughal Muslims are well up the political rectum of USUKIS,  having had 250 years of practice in the British Raj.

Crocodile tears will flow, but the Mughals will keep climbing up until they reach the top of the tunnel where they will settle down.
If the imam hadn’t cursed me, I woukd not have cursed him. Indians all worship Power.
They worshipped the power of the British Raj and they worship USUKIS power now.
Obviously Iran, Russia and China are demonstrating Real Power now, which is changing loyalties.

But so far I see no religious or moral analysis of USUKIS  military threats to Asia, and maybe they love USUKIS power enough to just let USUKIS in.
Rape me , I rape easy. Lol  It can happen.
USUKIS knows it could happen.

As I previously stated, if your not willing to use them they have no deterrence. So I guess for you, they are worthless. But to the US and Israel who will use them in a New York minute, they are a great deterrence indeed. Why do you think that everybody takes the abuse and aggression from both of them instead of actual resistance. It is because nobody is willing to chance the nukes. So I guess you just need to surrender because in the end, that is the only choice you will be offered.

If the reports are to be believed(and they are not) Iran seems to have offered more than before but still far short of what would be needed to call the current plan of attack off.
|
The Iranian calculus is most likely to string the USA along until they withdraw the bulk of the assembled forces in the hopes that it will delay an attack and make it harder to assemble them again both logistically/politically/financially, no doubt Trump/Neocons are factoring this in and unless the Iranians roll over and disarm the attack will go forward. This is a risky strategy for Iran to keep talking as it legitimizes an attack within the US internally as the “negotiations” track was tried, otherwise it’s harder to justify an attack without first trying to negotiate. No doubt this is the Trump/Neocon track.
|
The only way for Iran to stop an attack is to signal/demonstrate a resolve to make the conflict an all out war and drag in other parties into the conflict, at that point the calculus complicates for the USA/Neocons and it’s no longer so attractive. Iran should play their cards correctly here. I have no doubt they are fully expecting an attack either way no matter how this plays out. If however Iran starts signaling they will also limit their response/token strikes then it will be yet another blow they will have to absorb. The only successful occurrences I have seen in the last decade or so of states succesfully outplaying the USA/Neocons are China and North Korea, everyone else has pulled their punches to their own detriment.

But at least it buys time, which provides peace, in which we can prepare or at least share love. 🙂 Maybe both. Prayer and or meditation is useful for many to lower stress levels. So is hanging out with loved ones in a relaxing or creative endeavor.

I say this because it seems like a Western strategy to keep everyone in a stressed out state. Tell those psychopathic bastards to go suck their own eggs and skip merrily about sharing peace, love, and joy. These great treasures are things they will never have regardless their villainy & subterfuge.

No matter what America’s greatest truth teller proclaims. yes Donald Trump. He can say the word oil all day and Bernie Sanders will say its about human rights and gender equality.

I wonder if Columbia University sells, yes sells, the names of the current protestors to ICE, NYPD, FBI, and the IDF. Sells? Sure. I don’t see Trump as resisting the Zionist faction, he is a part of it. This is all theatre, perhaps just waiting for whatever con job they have in mind to justify the war. Both Israeli and US Zionists benefit from destroying Iran, they are simply waiting for something they believe will give them the edge. Iran collapsing opens the entire Middle Est to Israel, plus it delivers a heavy blow to BRICS.
