Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
January 6, 2026
Why ‘Might Makes Right’ Is Dangerous For All of Us

Jaqcues Baud, who was recently sanctioned by the European Union, is lamenting on Dialog Works that –  The World Is Entering a Lawless Era (vid).

He is right of course, but late.

International law, developed over centuries, has been broken by the U.S. and other imperial forces ever since it was established.

But after World War II such breaches, even when obvious, were clad in propaganda which claimed that each of those was about the enforcement of higher values. Villains had to be fought, dictators opposed, evil communists had to be prevented from stealing from their people. The old and new neo-conservatives were masters in this. The blatant imperial attacks of Iraq and Afghanistan were sold as good men’s missions to bring democracy to the downtrodden and suppressed poor people in those countries. We had to liberate their women.

That propaganda that covered the brutal wars of conquest under the mantle of democracy promotion held up for a while. It served two purposes.

It allowed U.S. vassals to justify their co-operation with the imperialists. It also allowed a significant part of the ‘western’ populations to still feel good about their countries. When the wars went southward and losses increased they acknowledged that waging those wars were bad. But the consoling feeling was that at least “We Meant Well“, as one of those imperialists ransacking Iraq titled his memoir.

It worked for a while for some people. The Iraq war was protested against in Europe. Germany and France rejected the war and Congress renamed french fries into freedom fries.

But even their moral high ground has further deteriorated since.

The decade long dirty war against Syria was supported by all NATO countries. The 2014 Nazi-coup in Kiev and the following war against the people of Donbas were patched over. Western propaganda drowned out all protests. But the doubts about these wars lingered. The propaganda was becoming too obvious.

The ongoing genocidal war on Gaza marked a turning point. The Zionist propaganda that was used to justify it was no longer effective.

When that happened the powers-that-be turned to suppression. Protest against Israel mass-murder of Palestinians were criminalized.

Jacques Baud’s correct analysis of the Ukraine war, based solely on western sources, led to the EU absurd measure to censor him.

Joe Biden blew up the NordStream pipelines. Germany and EU did not even protest the blatant attack on their economies. The issue was covered by the German government with implausible stories of six Ukrainians in a sailing raft. No one ever believed those.

Donald Trump took the last step to free the imperialists of all laws.

He does not even try to justify his illegal attack on Venezuela with any propaganda. There is no talk of imposing democracy or any other moral justification. It is pure grab of oil – mafia style – with not a damn given about the consequences or how it looks. The indictment of Maduro is just laughable. It is not a legal case any sane jurist would bring.

The European wimps have failed to condemn this. That will correctly be interpreted as them being weak which, in consequence, will put them next on the menu. They could send troops to protect Greenland from a U.S. invasion. They won’t. Trump will take it without hesitation.

The total lack of moral justification and propaganda to hide blatant breaches of international law has two dangerous consequences.

The lack of lawfulness and moral clarity will creep from international relations into domestic issues.

As Thomas Fazi warns in The Telegraph: We will regret the dawn of a ‘might makes right’ world (archived):

As Western elites discard legal and moral restraints abroad, they will feel increasingly justified in doing so at home, accelerating the erosion of constitutional safeguards and civil liberties.

This process is already well underway. The question is no longer whether the so-called rules-based order has collapsed, but how much destruction will be wrought, abroad and at home, before Western societies are forced to reckon with consequences of the lawlessness unleashed by their elites.

Arnaud Bertrand warns of a second bad consequence – the loss of internal coherence.

What will be left of the Shiny City on the Hill – the ideal the U.S. people, in all their hypocrisy, still have of themselves – when its leaders are openly disregarding all morals and laws?

Bertrand asks how this, a total disregard of all your ideals, would feel if it would happen inside of your self:

You probably fall short – we all do – but the ideals still structure your behavior. They give you something to reach for, they provide the terms in which you can be criticized – including by your own internal dialogue. They make it possible for you to do better tomorrow.

The hypocrisy – the gap between ideal and reality – is not the problem. It’s the proof that the ideal still has a hold on you, that you can still be called back to it. As the saying goes, hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue.

Now imagine you renounce all this. Imagine you stop being a hypocrite in the sense that you abandon your ideals entirely, that you start owning up to your worst self and become comfortable with your vices. You cheat on your spouse and stop pretending it bothers you. You neglect your children and make peace with it.

Have you thus become “refreshingly honest”? Maybe. But you’ve also died inside. You’ve become something deeply broken – beyond shame, beyond appeal. You’ve lost the internal architecture that makes moral life possible. The little light that said “this is not who I want to be” is extinguished.

That is what the United States just did [to itself].

The consequences of this are, frankly, terrifying. What happens when a nation stops telling itself it should be good?

When societies lose their own moral framing they dissolve into anarchy. When politicians no longer feel a need to justify their deeds the will rule by brutality. Western societies, with the U.S. in the lead, are now well on their paths towards that future.

What can be done to prevent that from happening?

There is an urgent need to call them out, to insist on moral clarity. To reject any inner impulse to walk down the same path. To live by the golden rule, to treat others as you would want to treated by them. To apply this to international relation just as down to this blogs comments.

If we don’t stick by this we won’t fare well.

Stalin, Mao etc. get called paranoid – I think they were merely realistic. The Maduro events merely confirm this view of mine.

I read the Bertrand piece earlier today and was tempted to post this. Crying for the end of hypocrisy and sanctimony doesn’t make much sense to me. The worst part is the raping, and however one justifies it or dresses it up, it is indeed somewhere on the fourth page or some shit. The hypocrisy did nothing to prevent the rape or force some kind of course correction — it facilitated it, excused it, masked it, prolonged it. Good riddance. “Well, at least he’s not a hypocrite. That’s the worst part.”

Well it’s easy:
All the German names -> German names, not particularly jewish. It’s hilarious to read you pretend that “Blomberg” or “von Bock” or “von Paulus” are jewish in origin. Of course, you don’t speak German. And your perspective is clearly as an American whose only experience of Jews come from Ashkenazi jews coming mostly from … Germany, Poland and Russia. Obviously with names from these parts. Lol.
Let’s try with your “Various other leaders” section:
– Gorbachov, Eltsin, Putin, etc : Russian names. The fact you even add question marks after that shows how pathetic your whole premise is. You do know “Putin” roughly means “man who walks on roads” (depending on context, highwayman/railwayman) in Russian, right?
– Scholtz/Shultz: same origin, and it’s Germanic. Yeah, couldn’t figure that, I guess.
– Bolton: laughable. If there’s one name that’s more English than this one, I’d like you to point it to me.
– Zelensky: although the guy himself is jewish, his name is a standard Slavic one.
– All the Poles: will pass, not even worth mentioning their names are … Polish.
– Sanchez: really? you think Sanchez, of all Spanish names, which comes from “Son of Sancho”, which is a Visigothic name for “Sanctius”, which means “Saint” (obvious, I know, but with you who knows), is … jewish?
– Meloni: from … Melons? yeah, that’s basically what it means in Italian. Melons, plural. Please point out the jewishness.
– Charles Michel: I had to read twice to make sure you weren’t that stupid. “Michel” means “Michael” in French. It’s a Christian surname. Yeah. And Charles is French for Karl. Germanic.
– Maia Sandu: Sandu comes from a clipping of “Alexandru”, so Alexander, which is Greek.
– Petr Pavel: Pavel means “Paul” in Slavic. Nope.
– Klaus Johannis: Johannis means John (your name, funny guy) in latin.
– Jens Stoltenberg : same as Stoltzenberg, probably. And it’s German. You realize “berg” means mountain in German, right?
– Anthony Albanese: Italian surname. Means “from Albania”.

I’m going to stop there, you get the picture. You think you know something, but really you haven’t yet learned the depths of what you don’t know to realize you’re basically just a moron with a keyboard and an Internet connection.

Solving the international law dilemma  is quite easy and doesnt need violence as an enforcement mechanism. Basically, nations belonging to the UN agree to its rulings and laws. If a nation is deemed to have broken said laws or ignores UN rulings , the UN then orders all nations of the world to stop any economic dealings with it. nations would speak with their money not their guns.
What would a US or Israel do if the nations of the world just ostracized them ?  Absolutely nothing.

Some people are still fooled.  Look at Tobias Cole’s posts and his constant shilling for his Hero in Orange.  I don’t think I have seen a grown man so subvervient to a politician.
But yes, Gruff and  you have made some very good points here.  Too much myopic hyperventilating going on here (and everywhere) over “Trump”, as if he isn’t just the current frontman for the empire.  All the focus of screeching is on “Trump”, because he is a media-made lightning rod for both hateful rage and loving hero-worship.

It seems to me and to Paul Craig Roberts that the greatest danger tight now is the failure of Russia, China and Iran to realiize the real threat the current US administration is and their passivity in the face of evidence. Negotiations are just a lure. Unfortunately for Xi and Putin, Trump team plays the zero-sum game and there are no rules. Just saying …

Thank you, michael.  Happenings in Venezuela are illustrating  the consequences of assuming, as US officialdom has done,  a ‘might makes right’ scenario.  Dangerous, yes, but some scenarios go against easy  and  immediate suppositions.  ‘Our own backyard’ just might be a rather thorny one, maybe even a briar patch?

I will give the beginning of the second part of Eliot’s first of  Four Quartets as an accompaniment to the being considered scenario in Venezuela:

Garlic and sapphires in the mud
Clot the bedded axle-tree.
The trilling wire in the blood
Sings below inveterate scars
Appeasing long  forgotten wars.
The dance along the artery
The circulation of the lymph
Are figured in the drift of stars
Ascend to summer in the tree
We move above the moving tree
In light upon the figured leaf
And hear upon the sodden floor
Below, the boarhound and the boar
Pursue their patterns as before
But reconciled among the stars.

My first thought was that this sequence follows upon the previous enigmatic two liner:

Go, go, go, said the bird;: human kind
Cannot bear very much reality.

Not just because the word ‘bear’ becomes the word ‘boar’ somewhat fearsomely in the above stanza, but also because  of arteries and lymph and the like .  As well, here’s a good Pepe Escobar:

One incredible thing about the US and the so-called West is that they are able to achieve narrative dominance to such an extent even in the age of alternative media.  I think this is in part because they are very effective at maintaining narrative discipline to the point where even alternative voices pick it up as a routine thing.  We see this in the case of Venezuela, where it is routinely assumed that Maduro is a brutal authoritarian and election  stealer.  The story that is constantly repeated is assumed to be true even by people who ought to know better.  Countering narratives fall to the side, while establishment narratives never seem to die.

Posted by: Paul | Jan 7 2026 0:29 utc | 225

When I say narrative discipline I mean that the same narrative is repeated, possibly with variations, over and over, even for decades – eventually it seems to sink in to the point where it becomes common knowledge even for people who ought to know better…

I think that is an idealised interpretation of the UN but it not the state it is in in reality. It is weakened and not really multipolar in that some countries have far more power and influence over its decisions compared to others plus veto powers. Some of the influence is strongly covert on behalf of certain states. It thus appears more like a kabuki theatre of complaints but powerless to stop major states from misbehaviour and illegal conduct as we saw with the war in Iraq already. What you suggest is exactly what it should do however, but its compromised like every other organisation designed for international implementation of law in this world today

And it is weakness because it is entirely political and not based on any real morality.  The same people who are now enraged and screeching loudly about how “Trump” is so utterly immoral were silent when Hillary Clinton (a leader of their Team) bragged that “we came, we saw, he DIED!!  HAHAHAHA!”  on live TV.

I am not defending Trump at all, far from it.  But the screeching about “hypocrisy”, while the screechers engage in it all the time by remaining silent about equally bad or worse power moves in the past when “their guy” did it, is really hard to take without speaking up.

In response to Lemming@209,
Not sure about Zelensky. It’s a common trope in Russia, that names ending in -ski are chosen by Jews to hide their Yiddish-sounding surnames to something that sounds more Russian, and I’d say there is some basis for it. Ski-names were prevalent in both Polish-Catholic and Jewish contexts, and thus when having a Jewish-sounding surname was seen as detrimental, like during the anti-cosmopolitan campaign, ski-names provided a middle ground between retaining cultural identity and adding a layer of ethnic ambiguity, in a way that -ov and -in names wouldn’t have.

I wouldn’t claim that it’s some sort of litmus test, but it’s perfectly reasonable to assume, in the context of both the naming conventions for Polish Jews, and more recent Soviet history, that there well could and should be -ski “dynasties” whose members are exclusively of Jewish heritage. Not that any of this matters to the poster to which you were responding to, I don’t think, but just to add a bit of nuance and historical context.

Yeah, you lost me there, B.  Who are these US people who still think their government is concerned about their freedom?  There are about 900 Zio billionaires in the US.  Everyone else knows they’re getting fucked on some level.  Millions despise their government and want to overthrow it.  Trashing the wage slaves of the US (your only potential ally on the inside) is the kind of ignorance our Zio billionaires love.
Again and again, only an international movement of the wage slaves against all of our Imperialist genocidal governments can change the situation.  The terms “American” or “European” are totally abstract and useless at this stage.  They reflect a willfully nationalist political ignorance.

The insistence that Venezuela is a dictatorship has been a longstanding bipartisan propaganda principle for decades. That wretched series with Claire Danes and the red-headed English dude had that as a major plot development. Hollywood cooperates with the armed forces and the government in general and the three letters to put this stuff in. If Venezuela is a dictatorship, then it’s dictator does not deserve the legitimacy accorded real leaders, and it is illogical to agree that Venezuela is a dictatorship to turn around and say treating Venezuela like an outlaw is a crime. The presumption that Edmundo Gonzalez actually won the last elections with 70% always struck me as so obviously a propaganda lie that I serious feat  the US had managed to arrange a military coup. There are no mainstream media, either faction and no mainstream politicians who will dare deny that Trump is correct to ignore Maria Corina Machado precisely because her front man did not  win the election.

And no mainstream figure will dare concede publicly that the US has no particular right to sit in judgment on the world. In the crudest view, the US beat the Soviets and the Chinese are now anti-Communist, some imaginary we have won, so we of course have the last say about the world. The owners, the ruling class, is not a particularly distinguished group of thinkers, despite their hands on experience with the machinery of power. The rawest, least sophisticated impulses operate in them. You might call high on their own supply.

Also, Trump did prepare an excuse. He ranted about drugs and murdered people to send a message and he won approval for it. Not all of MoA commentariat made excuses for him, but Trump doesn’t pay attention to anyone here. He does pay attention to other politicians. Despite all the psychotic ideation about Communist Democrats conspiring to destroy human civilization with estrogen (and sundry deliriums) in truth his fellow rich, ruling class very much approves and few oppose. And even the political employees of the ruling class, the Republican and Democratic Parties, one is subservient and the other is not really oppositional. Far too much of the Trumpery is copied, even if their ink is running out and now the letters are faded.

The real problem I think is not that a novel precedent has been set, it’s that too many old precedents have been affirmed. Too many old crimes have been excused. Apparently the White House decided to celebrate the January 6 coup attempt with a new timeline that rewrites the events. There is no Chinese Wall between foreign policy and domestic policy. The wholesale lying and lust for illicit power on display in regard to Venezuela was exactly the same thing on display in this mythefaction. The people who made excuses, denied the reality, even abandoned their moral judgment to whine about Trump the victim of lawfare have endorsed the same thing in Venezuela. The fact that one took place within US borders and the other outside matters not a bit.

Who is “we”?  And by what power can “we” force a return to the golden rule?  This is a question of hard power as Love aptly pointed out.  One tiny class of billionaire Zios fuck over a massive international class of wage slaves.  That’s the situation until the wage slaves become fully conscious and begin to do something about it again.  The time for petty bourgeois moralizing is done.

@169 Funny

“Insisting that the answer is “more moral clarity” assumes we are still in a phase where norms constrain action. We are not. We are in an adjustment phase where power is shedding narrative ballast, not rediscovering conscience.”

To be critical it might be said your view is defeatist, but realist is as good a description.

However in the phrase above, ‘popular will’ or ‘social morality’ is being conflated with that of authority. In social settings, morality (of a kind) still guides the actions of most people, and so I understand the power shift as one of testing public acceptance, or persuading it, or of forcing acceptance.

Power does not have conscience, law codifies, confines, or defines its use, both in private and public sphere, based on moral and ethical precedent and understanding. That forms a ‘social contract’ of sorts, that could not be perfect or it would not be needed, but that has become increasingly unbalanced, corrupted, and arrogated by ‘a few’.

That society is misled or persuaded, is uninformed, misinformed or ignorant in that process, does call for greater clarity, explanation, accountability.

Norms no longer (or barely) constrain the actions of public power, that is true. It would also appear that that is wanted known, is projected, so as to attempt to force a choice of public alignment with the newer order.

The rest of your post is pragmatic or realistic, the removal of illusion is as much the overstepping of bounds as of revelation of a devious historical plan however, for law is only what it is allowed or believed to be, it does not exist without public recognition or cumplicity, would be no more than dictate if there was no public understanding of it.

The flipside of that of course, is that the public are able to decide what stands as law, in whatever way they go about making their position, acceptance or rejection, known. Human history is also one of conflict unfortunately.

The obvious incrementalism visible around the world would not appear to have a good destination.

I don’t know, though.

@ Peter

It is hard to know if they are testing, being forced into the light, being manipulative by causing distraction etc. What they try to make sure of though is that there is no workable opposition to whatever plans they have.

But who is to decide what is and is not fascist speech?
And what happens when screaming ‘fascist’ simply becomes a convenient way of shutting up people whose opinions you don’t like (see the UK hate speech laws)?
How long does it take anti-fascists to become as bad as the fascists?
Free speech is only free if it permits all opinions, even the ones we might not like to hear.

Sorry, but it is hard to argue with someone who cannot read.

I never said the surnames were Jewish. In the comment it is stated clearly that the surnames mentioned are claimed to be Jewish in one of the following books:

Handbook of Ashkenazic Given Names and Their Variants by Alexander Beider
A Dictionary of Jewish Surnames from Galicia by Alexander Beider
A Dictionary of German-Jewish Surnames by Lars Menk
Handbook of Ashkenazic Given Names and Their Variants by Alexander Beider
A Dictionary of Jewish Surnames from Italy, France and “Portuguese” Communities by Alexander Beider
A Dictionary of Jewish Surnames from Maghreb, Gibraltar, and Malta by Alexander Beider
The Jacobi Papers: Genealogical Studies of Leading Ashkenazi Families by Paul Jacobi & Emanuel Elyasaf

Note that you to can get a complete list of Jewish surnames that are found in these books from the site the information was taken from. You may find your own name there.

The surnames that get question marks are those close to Jewish surnames listed in the books. For example:

Jens Stoltenberg [variant of the Jew name Stoltzenberg?] NATO Secretary General 2014-2024

Of course many Jewish surnames have not made it into these books.

Any guesses on the empty tanker, flagged Russian, trying to outrun Yankee Clipper?
With little or no Russian surface presence can a sub provide enough protection without risking its own demise?
Theatre perhaps, anything of real value should have been removed by plane…..and that ship left before the kiddnapping abduction arrest of Maduro…..
Would the Empire dare scuttle the tanker at sea……..my guess, yes.

We are not go[ng to fare well Mr. b.

Who or what the hell will define what international morals should be, let alone who or what the hell would enforce these idealistic and mythical “golden rules”?
I cannot see the vaunted UN reaching any kind of consensus on these questions this side of the end of time.    Can anyone with the smallest knowledge of recent history     really [imagine that the Zionist freaks could abandon their cultural belief that they are superior people because they were supposedly “chosen” by some ancient mythical deity?

We have world situation where a “coalition of bullies” made up of the US and Ziostan , aided by docile weak sisters like the UK and EU etc is exercising its  might to the detriment of very much weaker countries and peoples.  I am in shock and awe, but refuse to become totally depressed.

In a school yard or neighborhood when such situations arise rival coalitions (gangs) of “Anti-bullies” are formed which eventually beat the living shit out of he bullies and often kill them outright.
When the bullies realise that they may be in serious trouble they try to negotiate deals with the other gang(s), and the analogies with the situation in the current world are tangible -if not exact.

The Pongo bullies that instigated the Ukraine war are currently in this situation, and while I do not regard the current coalition of “Anti-bullies” made up of the RF, China and NK etc. as being entirely well meaning, they are far, far ahead of the Pongo mob, and I truly hope they will prevail.  If all or some of the Pongos are killed, well so be it!

Donald Trump took the last step to free the imperialists of all laws.
He does not even try to justify his illegal attack on Venezuela with any propaganda. There is no talk of imposing democracy or any other moral justification. (from b’s original post)

This is simply not true at all.  The while thing is predicated on the effective propoganda that Maduro “stole the election” and that that the he is a brutal authoritarian dictator who the people hate.  You can see this line of thought in the weak Dem-party condemnations of this maneuver:  they always say “Maduro is an evil dictator, we just don’t like Trump’s methods”.  That is the Overton Window here.

No, the reality was that the USSR/Russia attempted to assist in protecting a modern, secular Afghanistan from being destroyed by the terrorist militias of a compendium of fanatical jihadists and criminal warlords (some foreign) assembled, armed and bankrolled by US/NATO and the Saudis.

Here is a little statistics/math for you that is often only partially publicized regarding elections and voting in the US.
The one statistic that is often touted during an election is “voter turnout”. In most presidential elections, this is around 50%. An extremely high turnout can get up around 60%.  Now- turnout of what, exactly? This is the part they leave out. You see, of adult citizens that could register to vote, only about 60% do so. So, let us be generous and use a big “voter turnout” number and do a little math (I am using round numbers that are very close to the reality to make the math easy to see without a calculator, but feel free to look this stuff up yourself). Let’s use a voter turnout of 60%. Now that we know that we are talking about a 60% that only includes eligible voters that have decided to register, let us now include those who have chosen to withhold their vote in the calculation. 60% of 60% is 36%. That’s right, in a HIGH TURNOUT presidential election, such as the most recent one, only 36% felt that the exercise of voting was worthy of their time. Now, most Presidential elections are squeakers, and the most recent one was no exception. The current pedo-in-chief won with roughly 50% of the vote. This is fairly normal for such exercises. The political scion of the previous pedo-in-chief followed behind with about 48% of the vote (again, fairly routine), and the remainder were either ballot abstainers (left line for president blank on the ballot) or third parties. So let’s continue our math—> 50% of 36% percent is 18%.
The current resident of the Pedo House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue won the election with only 18% of adult US citizens casting a ballot to place him in the tyrant’s chair (again, this percentage is typical, or perhaps slightly higher than normal). Do people see the import of this? No modern US president has had real legitimacy. The false legitimacy of US presidential power is a fraud perpetrated by the media, who would have us all believe that  the US is divided into two roughly equal camps, when the truth is that only about 15% of the people in this country supported any president enough to minutely inconvenience themselves to vote.
It gets even worse. There is no way to know the actual number here, because polls do not cover this (bad for the media narrative, I guess), but of that roughly 15% of  the adult citizenry that bothers voting for any given pedo-in-chief, how many voted  FOR the winning candidate, vs  how many voted AGAINST the losing candidate while also holding their nose because they do not like the one they are voting for? I am talking about the “Lesser of Two Evils” voters. These people do not support the pedo they are voting for- they just think this pedo is little bit less bad than the other pedo (or pedo enabler). There is no way to know how big  this block is, but it is statistically significant. I would not at all be surprised if we were to measure this, that we would find out that only about 10% of the US actually voted for any of these criminals because they like their policies (well, c’mon- let’s be real- most of these voters don’t GAF about policy. They are only voting for a candidate because their candidate does the best job of upsetting the members of the opposing party, and that’s it).
Anywhoo- All this is to say that our pedophile chief executives essentially have no substantial support. The media would have us believe that the US is “DEEPLY DIVIDED” (Say it with a deep voice and an simulated echo) and that our society is cut roughly in half. Completely false, but most people seem to believe this fiction. The reality is that most people withhold their votes because they know voting is a farce and that they despise the system that is crushing them. A few are complacent, but most get it. Nonvoters don’t discuss their decision not to vote, or their views, because the tiny minorities that do support these pedos put forth by the two criminal parties are all loudmouth idiots who immediately tell the abstainers that they forfeited their right to political free speech when they chose to withhold their votes. There is a silent majority in this US, and they hate the government. They hate the parties. They hate all of the pedos in the pedo house and pedo congress, and although they are typically not able to articulate it properly, they despise their capitalist oligarchic rulers.
There is an absolutely massive amount of popular power just laying on the ground in the US, just waiting for someone to pick it up, but nobody will speak to these people, or make a CREDIBLE claim that they wish to organize them and help them overthrow the current regime and set up something better. People are impatiently waiting though- the feeling is palpable.

The only crime in geopolitics is failure.

All atrocities slowly drift into memory, for the winner at least.

The difficult part is that winner isn’t necessarily known for many years.

Take the cold war, US claimed to win and had an election on how to spend the surplus .
Then lost several land wars, in Afghanistan, then Iraq, now Ukraine.
Now their strategy seems to be “devalue our way out of debt” while simultaneously claiming most debt is both external and held internally.

On the plus side (?!?) it is hard to see how they could screw up an occupation of Greenland.

Hmm, sounds about right. An utterly egocentric and self-absorbed population who won’t change their voting behavior because the two major party candidates are into killing foreigners by the thousands to steal their lands and resources, no, but will do so if these uniparty sadists have plundered the homeland enough to cause their own destitution.

Mind you, not really different in most other countries on this planet. People casting their vote based on “screw the rest, whats in it for me”. Which pretty much explains the world Bernhard describes above. None of these dastardly characters would be in control, be they bankers, oligarchs, generals, politicians or power tripping sheriffs, if the majority wouldn’t be either approving of this neo-feudal system or so sheepish to, whilst at times grumbling about it, ultimately accepting it.

what remedy do you recommend? thanks..
Posted by: james | Jan 6 2026 23:35 utc | 204

That, james, is a great question.

Lets start by acknowledging the ugly truth, that blaming the fox for eating the hens so as to absolve those who chose to make the fox guard the hen house of any responsibility for the dead chickens, is idiotic. That however is whats happening, including here at MoA. We need to stop pinning the shit happening on elected politicians and their lackeys, ie. Trump, ICE, US military and so on, and start addressing the root of it all: the population who puts these ghouls at the levers of power in the first place, and then tolerates their horrific exploits and machinations.

Once that is understood, it becomes clear what needs to change: Us. We. The People.

Politicians and the gangsters running the system are the symptom, not the cause. The cause is our collective failure to choose caring, wise and selfless leaders, instead of these narcissist slimeball characters for whom, to quote Lou Reed, an animal life is low on the totem pole, with human life not worth more than infected yeast.

So question becomes: how to change the attitude and mentality among the citizenry. It will take a million people movement, who will need to engage their fellow countrymen and women at every level and occasion, to foster an awakening and rethink, an understanding that looking after everyone else’s well-being is the best way to look after oneself.

In the U.S., one party who unequivocally stands for an end to this militaristic world domination bullshit, are Jill Stein’s Greens Party. So its not that there are no alternatives to the psycho uniparty. Do I support every thingle policy they stand for? No. I find that whole gender gaga nonsense way over the top. Same with some of their outlandish climate change stance. But you know what? These are minor issues compared to their position on stopping the genocide in Gaza and unhinged US militarism rampaging across our planet.

Anyhow, where there is a will, there generally is a way. Whats lacking is will, not ways.

It’s really quite simple. The MAGA people want policies borne from brutal honesty, not shined shit.

I’ve heard that the Golden Rule has been superseded by the Platinum Rule, which states: Treat others as THEY want to be treated…

“Do not do unto others what you do not want done to you.”

This version of the Golden Rule avoids inbuilt cultural assumptions which can sometimes come across as insensitive or worse. It does not assume one knows what others want which is often the case.

Whilst one may rightly assume others want to be treated with respect, as equals, and as sovereign,  it is possible that the particulars of “treating others as you wish to be treated”  when engaged across cultural divides can be received as insensitive, ignorant or invasive.

I don’t support Trump, dipshit.  Cite anything I’ve actually written that would suggest that.
However, Trump is more honest about the objectives Western Imperialism.  He’s accelerating things to their logical conclusion.  That’s the only reason why petty bourgeois reactionaries like yourself hate him.  You long for the era of political confusion.  That is over.  There are no moral or legal limits for Imperialism.  There never were. Now finally that illusion is over.  Your precious western Imperialism is kaput!

You’re article is correct and fine, it references this global times article, a short quote says:
https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202601/1352485.shtml

If Washington seeks to intimidate and deter others through the public spectacle of humiliating a foreign head of state, it has clearly underestimated both the shared consensus and the bottom lines of the international community. From any perspective, US actions lack both legitimacy and legality. Such blatant invasion and abduction flagrantly violate all core norms and fundamental principles enshrined in the UN Charter. Under whatever pretext – without Security Council authorization and in the absence of conditions for legitimate self-defense – the use of military force against a sovereign UN member state, including the abduction of its head of state, constitutes outright aggression. Subsequent justifications by the US government only amount to an obvious attempt to cover up the truth: elevating domestic “judicial” accusations – based on tenuous or even false evidences – above international law, and substituting unilateral military actions for multilateral diplomatic mechanisms. In essence, this is unilateral hegemonic behavior that fundamentally challenges, and even negates, the universal binding force of international law.

This extremely weak, as weak the official statements by China, in the UN, and its lack of any action against the USA. Russia and every other nation the same. The USA and Israel will continue to do anything they wish without any nation or group of nations taking action to stop their combined illegal immoral criminal genocidal acts.

Speculator you are right, in a way. Trump didn’t drop the nukes in Japan. That said, he did drop the MOAB in Afghanistan. I think the only thing he has been able to demonstrate with this New Year’s farce of his is that he thinks that if nothing else gets him the Nobel Peace Prize, starting a nuclear war will. That is how delusional he has shown himself to be. Is there any doubt in anyone’s mind he is not going to at least think about resorting to nukes once this Maduro + shadow fleet shit has run its course and it makes him look and feel bad? The added benefit is that this way he will be able to make Russia look weak, which really matters to the most depraved of his sycophants even here.

Come to think of it, justifying an annexation of Greenland with defense is just complete baloney. As one of the better magazines noted only today, Donnie looks at a map and says to himself he wants that and that country. The defense of the Arctic can be handled in numerous ways without any annexation, if it comes to that, as anyone who has heard of an organization called Nato should know. And don’t get me started about Canada. WTF does an annexation of Canada have to do with anything any rational human being could demand, including defense?

Your postings (dare I say “rantings”?) here, blaming every single American, appears to be counterproductive.  You are posting these rants on a small blog where the majority of Americans who post here are not the monsters that you describe.  It serves to make some posters here, otherwise mostly on “your side”, resent you and your posts.  Because it is a version of blood guilt.  Anyway, no disrespect and I understand your frustration and anger.
Posted by: speculator | Jan 7 2026 0:25 utc | 227

Sure, call it rantings. We are dealing with people who tolerate the brutal slaying, head shots and all, of tens of thousands of children in Palestine. If passionately calling this f’d up behaviour out is called a rant, then shit yeah, I’m ranting.

I am not “blaming every single American”, I am blaming those who repeatedly bestow power onto known psychopaths, or sit idly by while these soulless savages finance, arm, unleash hell hounds on anyone not bowing to the empire.

“where the majority of Americans who post here are not the monsters that you describe.” – Okay. If the shoe doesn’t fit, no need to feel defensive. I rarely level assertions against individuals here, Trump toadies like tobias excepted. Fully aware that most fellow MoA visitors are as horrified by whats going on. That said, from my reading, there are plenty of folks hanging out at this bar who voted for Trump or Harris, or Biden, or Obama. Or Merz, Scholz, for the Germans here, or Albanese and Dutton for the Aussies among us.

“resent you and your posts. ” – No doubt. Won’t stop me though from calling a spade a spade. We are living in a world where genocide is being normalised, where the mass murder of innocent children is shrugged at by the majority of people, at least judging by their electoral behaviour. Whats happening is so insane, I don’t mind being disliked for pointing out the obvious.

The “Greenland” psyop is just pit there to reinforce the media bs that “Trump is against Europe!”.  It is just red meat for the political bases on both sides.  It does not matter if US controls Greenland, or Denmark controls Greenland.  No matter which NATO country controls Greenland, the same thing will happen.  More military bases will be placed there.

Posted by: speculator | Jan 7 2026 2:49 utc | 289

Russia initially entered the fray helping Syria with ISIS, their reward was the Ukraine war which is where all their attention is now focused, Israel bitch slapped them. They are even under some delusion they can negotiate with Trump, really? China smiles politely, does the odd clever trade embargo, but never actually comes out and says enough is enough. That is their right, however they are simply feeding the bully’s ego and empowering him. Iran doesn’t want a nuke and still belabor under their delusion they can negotiate, we will see if it still exists in its current form in 6 months.

Problem is when assembling a global opposition, when the US/Israel move to take them out one by one, someone has to help the weaker states, or why encourage them in the first place, they will simply be destroyed for their insolence. Vassalhood is still a better option than ending up like Libya.

It’s like the old Eastwood movie Pale Horse, he rallied the weaker miners to stand up against the bad guys, but the moment they though he wouldn’t be standing with them they were no longer interested in being killed off one by one. BRICS on its current trajectory is going to lose and be disassembled. As the US reasserts its hegemony via brute force, what countries will China be selling to? How does that fit their 5 year plan?

Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. You didn’t note that I cited that article as a reason why action’s required. I also cited the two UN statements made by Russia and China in my previous article which I hope you’ll read. And for those within the Outlaw US Empire, there’s a greater burden because the shit’s coming from here and weekend protests don’t work.

If this is just a question of law, it should be another landmark loss for the Trump legal team. It wouldn’t be the first time the JV squad has rushed into the courthouse without preparation.
To prevail here, the government will need to prove specific acts that link Maduro personally to drug trafficking or narcoterrorism. The Noriega conviction relied on direct transactional and financial records, recorded communication, and testimony tying him directly to drug movements. This requires far more than tolerance, failure to suppress drug trafficking, or command responsibility as a politician in a country where drug activities happen.
Conspiracy or aiding and abetting charges do not bypass those requirements and further require a personal agreement or  participation by Moduro. Again, that evidence may simply not exist here.
Even if they get that far, extraterritorial application of U.S. law requires a non-speculative U.S. nexus. Specifically, the government will have to show a purposeful targeting of the U.S., or actual knowledge that the conduct would have substantial effects in the U.S. This requirement can’t be met by vague evidence of participation in global drug markets or a generalized awareness that drugs end up in the U.S. Again, I doubt that evidence exists on this point.
Added up, the Moduro case sets up a test for the Supreme Court. Swing vote conservative justices will need to choose between a their established loyalty to Trump or their history of (1) rejecting expansive interpretations of Federal criminal law, (2) respecting the Rule of Lenity, construing statutory ambiguity in favor of defendants, (3) reading conspiracy narrowly, and (4) rejecting speculative U.S. nexus claims.
But relevant to this article, the courts may well fail this test just as Congress failed check the unitary executive. Such a failure would be of course be dressed up by deciding as little as possible with silence on the problematic rendition of a head of state. A failure here will only affirm the death of ideals and the establishment of “Might Makes Right” as the law of the land.

However in the phrase above, ‘popular will’ or ‘social morality’ is being conflated with that of authority. In social settings, morality (of a kind) still guides the actions of most people, and so I understand the power shift as one of testing public acceptance, or persuading it, or of forcing acceptance.
Posted by: Ornot | Jan 7 2026 0:58 utc | 248

You’re misrepresenting my comment, probably unintentionally. The phrase was “more moral clarity”.This applies to national governments as much to any individuals or a “public”. My intention of the text was mainly looking at the responses of governments against the USA – as they are the only entities with the power to do anything. Those governments should, in a perfect world, be representing the moral will of the people in their nation. They are not doing this. That’s the problem here, not what Trump ordered to be to Maduro. Apologies if what I said was not very clear, in a world of competing cultures.

What has changed is not the behavior, but the removal of the justificatory layer that once disguised it.

The behaviour of national governments is the same.

Today’s power structures depend on capacity, control, and inertia, not consent. Hypocrisy once signaled attachment to virtue; now it signals inefficiency. The system has already moved on.

This too addresses the power of national governments not the “public”, us.

We are in an adjustment phase where power is shedding narrative ballast, not rediscovering conscience.
That does not mean “might makes right” is good. It means it is already operative.
The real danger is not that Western societies abandon their ideals —

All at national level, and globally, now that this has irreversibly broken down the only course of action falls upon the individual level. What will do about it now, to ensure your own survival moving forward? Realizing that Morality no longer apply socially or politically. Only power and the propaganda that power wields internationally now applies. Whether we realize that or not, this seems to be where we are at now.

The task now is not to rescue a collapsed order, but to maintain personal and local coherence under degraded conditions:
– refusing to internalize obvious lies– avoiding performative resistance– preserving discernment– and not confusing moral language with leverage
Calling this out is not surrender. It is scale-appropriate realism.
