There’s a place in India where cutting gems and making jewelry are very big. I forget the name of the city but its a major center in the world for gem cutting and sales of stones.

I saw a quite separate doco as well. In the jewelry sector, boys would dive into the sewers to collect the sludge off  the bottom and pan out the fine gold from jewelry polishing. A bit of a shitty job.

Those words Trumpism and emoluments made me think something along the lines of try to pan a rare element out of Trumps waste.
I guess the main element there would be bullshittium.

There a couple of blokes in Tassi with youtube channels. They do gold sniffing – going in the creeks with wets suite goggles and snorkle and a suffer bottle to get the gold out of crevices. They often hike into some pretty wild and remote places on the west coast. Tassi Boys and Rob Parsons are the two channels.

They will often find a metal called osmeridium along with the gold. There was a couple of spots in Tas were big for osmeridium mining in the pas. I have no idea of demand, price or even what the stuff is used for now, but it seems that is also a relatively rare metal.

Gives a whole new meaning to Exceptionalism. What new term can we create to describe these indescribably inhuman people? I really don’t want to invoke Bacon; his term was Monstrous. I look over synonyms for that word and find nothing that fits, IMO. We have Evil Incarnate and that’s certainly applicable. Leviathan is a monster. Orcs and other beings from Tolkien’s mind seem possible although they’re already used. These human creatures are clearly demonic and serve Evil–both head-choppers, their kin and their masters. I suppose this search for a proper name should be opened to the entire bar not just us, and the term needn’t be English.

One of his I watched – a historical hut – he researched in the old newspapers then tried to locate its general area by looking at the topography on sat maps.

Then he went out into some very thick bush and walked straight onto it.  By it I mean the site, the hut likely being burned in bush fires but metal remains and other stuff. Walking onto that site in incredibly thick scrub – his research was exceptionally accurate

The Greenland fiasco as examined through the lens of international law by a Chinese scholar: Trump Gang Theft of Greenland: View from China

Posted by: karlof1 | Jan 13 2026 21:48 utc | 429

In the current Iran thread Ornot included this in a comment and it got me thinking –
“Trump is officially insane.” pal74press

Something changed there around Christmas. That was eleven months into Trumps term. That meeting with the green grub and in the presser afterwards the green grub was smirking as I believe he knew there was to be a strike on Putin’s official residence during that meeting. Until that strike, Trump had spent the first eleven months trying to get a piece deal with Russia.

Prior to that, perhaps a month before, the Ukraine channels reported that the Brits had worded up Zelensky and Yermak on there plan to avoid a piece deal. Part of that plan involved doing another Russiagate style operation on Trump.

The release of the heavily redacted Epstein papers and the strike on Putins residence were I think part of the British plan no doubt in partnership with the US deep state. I tend to believe Trump was trying to get Russia tied up in business deals and on side before attacking Venezuela and Iran.

The US economy is in dire straights so desperate times call for desperate measures I guess. The American piracy and the kidnapping of Maduro ….. Theres a story up in Reuters today on the regime applying in the American courts for seizure of any carrying or has carried in the past Venezuelan and Iranian oil.

Iran is key to American total control of Persian Gulf oil. With that, the Americans would control a very large chunk of the worlds oil reserves. China is the ultimate target and China is the largest importer of oil.

Like Russia holds Crimea as a strategic position, the Americans want control of a very large chunk of the worlds energy for a strategic position. Two birds with one stone – deprive China of oil and gas and bring revenue into the collapsing economy of the US.

US strategic oil reserve is very low now due to to using it to keep energy prices down in the US.
Perhaps it is a combination of desperation and insanity or perhaps it is more along the lines of desperate times call for desperate measures as the US economy goes tits up.
Whatever it is, The US/UK is not going to go down gently.

You posted that while I was writing my thoughts of the day. Greenland – its another strategic position in the world likely something to do with Russia’s northern sea lane that is being opened up. It is obvious from Trumps remarks that the Trump regime want it for interdicting trade rather resources, though there is no doubt they will loot whatever resources are there.

I have been following Trump closely for some time. Nothing changed except the Empire has become increasingly desperate, IMO.

Very few paid much attention when he murdered Soleimani or when he talked about Gaza.

Or how gleeful he was when Israel attacked Iran, talking as though killing or capturing the Ayatollah was a fait accompli.

I don’t think many watched carefully his responses to Epstein earlier this year when he started to deny that he even knew him. How his DOJ was going to release, but instead released old and redacted files to the Influencers that they own.

This is who Trump is. Who he always has been. Who he was when he’d call into Howard Stern’s radio show.

Do I think he is manipulated and drugged? Absolutely. But this not so much that he has become a completely different person.

Remember, China made COVID and China produces Fentanyl, Maduro is a drug kingpin, and Hamas and Iran are foreign terrorists.

I watched those aspects you write about and noted them so knew Trumps aspirations in that regards. I did however believe a peace deal with US and Russia as it would save countless non nazi Ukrainian lives.

Trump was crowned the next emperor of empire after the utterly failed great southern offensive to take Crimea.
Up until around the ‘election’ or inauguration, I wasn’t sure if he would go for the Alberta oil or the Venezuelan oil as the US needed a heavy oil supply before attacking Iran. From at least the time of his inauguration, it was clear he was going to go for the Venezuelan.

So on the one hand I knew his targets, and on the other it would have been good for the slaughter to end in Ukraine. A large proportion of those dying there are simply very stupid people rather than nazis, too stupid to get out when they could.

It was likely just the hope of a peace deal that was holding the Trump regime back. It doesn’t look like the Trump admin has full control of Venezuela oil as yet so there is still a bit to play out.  The American really need that Venezuelan oil flowing in before attacking Persia. During his first term, Trump wanted to use nukes on Iran. Perhaps that is the way the regime has decided to go know and give the middle finger to Russia. If so, Armageddon and mutually assured destruction.

Posted by: Peter AU1 | Jan 13 2026 22:48 utc | 433

Mutually Assured Destruction only works if both sides weapons operate reliably. If one side has outsourced, financialised, monetised the care and maintenance of its weapon systems the contractual Key Performance Indicators had better be very-tightly specified, otherwise corner-cutting in pursuit of the quarterly bonus might lead to some large holes with wreckage around them, when launching for real becomes necessary.

Looting Greenland of its resources is akin to rustling cattle from a ranch without any. The cattle must first be present to steal. In Greenland, ports and transport infrastructure need to be present for any loot to be evacuated from the non-existent mines. How many billions of tons of ice will need to be excavated first? Me thinks Trump smokes a good pipe.

If not too irrelevant,
Looking at the exchange rate between US dollars and Swiss francs of the 1960s and comparing them to today’s exchange rate, among other observations*, was what got me envious of the non-USAian barflies here who live in countries with the equivalent to €1 and €2 coins. I hate having to stuff $1 bills in my wallet with their purchasing power better suited in a metal coin than a paper note, it’s no wonder Canada did the sensible in 1987 (and again in 1996 and 2012). Some may argue that coins are heavy. But then, if one treated a €5 note as he/she would treat a $1 bill in the 1960s…?

(* said observation involved the USA’s short-lived 20-cent coin and unreleased $4 “Stella” intended to match the US dollar with the French franc and all other Latin Monetary Union currencies. With 20c and $4 being 1 and 20 francs resprctively at the time, I concluded that the 5-franc piece was a silver dollar.
Now, if the equivalent of a cent was 5 centimes/Rappen, what were prices in these LMU nations like that coins worth a fraction of a cent were issued?)

There is a guy who is claiming that he was SA’ed by Trump, Epstein, Clarence Thomas and several other big shots when he was 9–13 years old. The allegations are of the most extreme type including sexual torture and murder but don’t include sexual  cannibalism as far as I am aware. These allegations are being amplified on Musk X and several other socmed platforms currently.

Upon initial examination the  allegations are similar to those made by Paul Bonacci in  the 1990’s. Bonacci claimed he had been shuttled around US as a child and was used as a sex toy and had been forced to take part in “snuff” films. He named G. Bush senior as a perpetrator and Hunter S Thompson (a maverick journalist) as the guy who shot the snuff. Bonacci sued and was awarded something under a million dollars in a civil court, where the standard of proof is lower than in a criminal court — on the balance of probability versus beyond a reasonable doubt. No criminal prosecution followed the civil case.
If enough people believe this story that is being told on Musk X and the rest, things could ugly enough for the declaration of martial law.

It has just been announced that drone fleets are to patrol  US cities

CME Group switched to a new margin calculation system for precious metals futures today (Tuesday), moving away from fixed dollar amounts to percentage-based requirements after gold and silver hit record highs this week.

The exchange now sets margins for gold, silver, platinum and palladium contracts as a percentage of notional value rather than specific dollar figures. The adjustment went into effect after Tuesday’s close following what CME described as a routine volatility review.

Are US inflation statistics manipulated?  How?

Wolf Richter
Jan 13, 2026

My frustration is boiling over. This is very serious. A lot depends on halfway accurate CPI inflation readings.

Today’s CPI report for December by the Bureau of Labor Statistics still didn’t fix the massive issues with the CPI for Owners Equivalent of Rent (OER), the biggest component of CPI, weighing 26.4% of the all-items CPI, 33% of core CPI, and 44% of core services CPI. And due to the unfixed issues in September through November, it continued to substantially push down year-over-year readings in December for the services CPI, core CPI, and all-items CPI.

By returning the ratio to 100 percent, regulators aim to moderate leverage levels, safeguard investor interests, and promote long-term healthy development of the capital markets, according to the notices.

Across China: Paid study spaces gaining popularity among China’s dream-seeking youth

BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — As the clock neared 10 p.m. in Beijing’s Changping District, the lights at Chenxi Study Room were still shining brightly. Among rows of focused students, 24-year-old Lin Guoguo was deep in her books, preparing for her second attempt at the competitive graduate entrance exams.
“I came here just for a quiet spot, but the atmosphere is incredible,” she said. “Seeing everyone so dedicated fuels my own drive.”
This scene captures the essence of the rapidly growing paid study room industry. More than just quiet spaces, these venues have become sanctuaries for many young Chinese striving to upgrade their skills, pass make-or-break exams and navigate an increasingly competitive job market.
Paid study rooms, often referred to as “self-study rooms,” offer meticulously designed environments featuring well-lit open areas, sound-proofed cubicles, private booths and rest zones equipped with printers, microwaves, free coffee and snacks.
The pricing system is usually designed flexibly to suit various needs, offering options from hourly rates to annual memberships.
At the forefront is Zhongxiang Study Room chain brand. Established in October 2023 in north China’s Hebei Province, it has rapidly expanded to over 60 directly operated venues and more than 100 franchise outlets.
“Our study rooms serve around 140,000 registered customers, with annual revenue of about 10 million yuan (1.4 million U.S. dollars),” company director Meng Yulong said, while adding that over half of their customers are preparing for postgraduate or civil service exams.
For many young Chinese, home is too familiar and distracting for deep study, while cafes and libraries can be noisy or crowded. Paid study rooms fill this gap by providing not only a quiet space but also a powerful sense of shared purpose. “When you see everyone around you studying, that atmosphere is really contagious,” said Wang Pan at Chenxi Study Room.

Target Tehran”
How Mossad Is Using Sabotage, Cyberwarfare, Assassination – and Secret Diplomacy – to Realign the Middle East”

Description:
“Yonah Bob and Ilan Evyatar describe how Israel has used cyberwarfare, targeted assassinations, and sabotage of Iranian facilities to great effect, sometimes in cooperation with the United States. Even as it takes lethal action, Israel has managed to alter the politics of the Middle East, culminating in the Abraham Accords of 2020. Arab states such as Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates normalized relations with Israel, and the holy grail of normalization with Saudi Arabia may yet be achieved. Despite the war with Hamas, these Arab states share Israel’s concern with Iran, remaining silent while Israel undermines Iran’s nuclear program. Bob and Evyatar reveal how Israel has used documents stolen from Tehran in a daring, secret Mossad raid to show the United States and the International Atomic Energy Agency how Iran has repeatedly violated the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement and lied about its active nuclear weapons program. Drawing from interviews with top confidential Israeli and US sources, including from the Mossad and the CIA, the authors tell the “thrilling” (Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, author of Battlegrounds) inside story of the tumultuous, and often bloody, history of how Israel has managed to outmaneuver Iran–so far.” (??????????????????????????????).

Nice piece of propaganda from 2 israeli writers in Israel. When I read the title of the book I thought it was critical of Israel but it turns out that it’s another piece of pro-Israel propaganda.

The tragedy, if it can be called that, is that the gap growing between East and West didn’t have to happen. There is nothing the East is doing that the West couldn’t have started 20 years ago.

It really comes down to values, social philosophy, and norms.

All ideas which any one or any people could try out.

Supremacy has a nasty habit of closing minds off from new and potentially better ideas.

Moreover, he claims that all corruptions of institutions (abstract art, free form poetry, etc.) is being done by Jewish people.
He further criticizes what he calls the growth of liberalism. Included, believes there is difference between white and black people aside from the color of skin, in opposition to the beliefs of liberals. He claims the civil rights movement is run by communists.
Rockwell also laments the growing number of visible (his word) “queer” people.
He wants America to be a white, Christian nation.”

*** Looting Greenland of its resources is akin to rustling cattle from a ranch without any. The cattle must first be present to steal. In Greenland, ports and transport infrastructure need to be present for any loot to be evacuated from the non-existent mines. How many billions of tons of ice will need to be excavated first? Me thinks Trump smokes a good pipe.***

Can’t wait for when Trump’s Delta force kidnaps Greenland’s PM and the rest of NATO and Eurotards will just shrug it off like they did with Maduro and Venezuela. If a 100% tariff will be put on Greenland or Frederik will be declared a head of a Hezbollah linked fentanyl smuggling cartel first remains to be seen. To paraphrase Jensen Huang, the more foreign leaders you kidnap, the more americans you save! (from drugs). As someone on telegram pointed out, the only option for the Greenland’s PM to make Trump never talk about it is to rename it to Epstein Island.

Take your racism elsewhere. You appear to view abject poverty as a form of culture. Perhaps you prefer the good old days of the opium trade.

The only part of ‘culture the peoples of China have lost is abject poverty. China now leads the world in most technologies. The western world is now collapsing – not because of what other countries have done, but because of what the wester world has done to itself.

Russia is an old civilization. China an exceptionally old civilisation. Both had revolutions which renewed them. At some point, the west will have to go through revolution to do away this imperial bullshit.

Lobby groups. Part of my reading in the past few years has been the Ukraine tg channel resident as it has, in the past at least been very accurate in the political doings there and the interactions of MI6 with the Jewish mafia gang of Zelensky and Yermak.

One year there, 70 million was budgeted for lobbying in the US. Ukraine surviving purely on aid flowing in from the west, and from that they take out cut to pay for lobbying for more aid.
Israel AIPAC the same. Aid flows in. A hefty cut is taken out for lobbying for more aid.

Just before I read there is now a Nigerian lobby group kicked off. Who they are I don’t know. Ukraine is used as a conduite to funnel money through to so called opposition groups in Africa.
Who is behind this move into Africa – the Anglo Empire of France? France just lost a lot of its positions there. The coup belt is turning to Russia China and Turkey and telling the west to piss off.

WWI and WWII were also fourth out in Africa. CIA/MI6 headchoppers operating there and the Russians and Turks working together to knock out the headchoppers……

Complicated stuff.

Massacres – Russia and China are large multi ethnic nations inhabited by the people that have lived there for millenia.

US, Canada and Australia are quite different. The indigenous people slaughtered to create living space for Anglo/European migrants. Nutty Yahoo the Pole doing the same in Palestine now. Here in oz, the massacres of the indigenous peoples continued through to at least the late 40’s early 50’s. The vast majority have gone completely unrecorded though they are still in the memories and oral history of the remnant indigenous.

All western propaganda is always projection. The west tries to project onto others what itself has done or is doing.

Palestine – massacre/genocide on a grand scale in full public view, massively supported by the west and now protesting genocide in many western countries is a jailable offence..

karlof1 at  327 on the ‘Iran riots’ thread.

Thanks, karlof1 for the link to Michael Hudson’s essay  How Washintgton Uses Energy as a Weapon.   There was one paragraph which troubled me, and perhaps when or if things quiet down we could have a discussion on an open forum about it.  Here it is:

… The key condition attached to the Chilean copper arrangement was that its copper would be sold to U.S. companies as first in line, at whatever the Chilean price was set. The U.S. copper companies needed this guarantee to assure their customers for electric wiring, arms and other major applications of continuous supply. This right of first refusal was a concession that did not involve an economic sacrifice by Chile. But Allende insisted that this concession violated Chilean sovereignty. That was a needless demand as far as Chile’s national self-interest was concerned, but Allende stood firm – and was overthrown.

My question would be, who set the price of copper — I don’t see an explanation of that in the essay, except that it did not involve an economic sacrifice by Chile.    Did Chile retain the power to set the price?   (If so, you can disregard the question)  But a second question  would be on how a sovereign country might consider  that right of first refusal, given that sovereignty seems to me to rest upon the ability to trade its assets with whomever the leadership desires to be in good standing with.   And certainly, in light of Trump’s recent claim that ‘we own the oil’ in Venezuela,  the matter is a tricky one.

I can see that to a certain extent such a right of first refusal might have been a temporary one to be paid off in time, such as a mortgage is for a homeowner,  but maybe Allende considered that to have already taken place?

Sorry for my ignorance — it does seem to be a colonialism issue, however.

Here’s the link again to the paragraph I posted at 506 here from  the Michael Hudson post from karlof1:
https://michael-hudson.com/2026/01/how-washington-uses-energy-as-a-weapon/

Probably this is not the most important factor to discuss, but I am wondering if  Trump has maybe become controlled by a negative, defensive mindset because of the assassination attempts he has had to endure.  Certainly karlof1’s main theme of ‘Outlaw Empire’ goes further back than Trump,  but maybe viewed on a ‘nation’ level  the defensive attitude of both the US and Israel can be viewed as the ultimate curse of colonialism.   Although,  as regards my native land, New Zealand,  I would have said from my early experience of childhood and early adulthood there that the country hadn’t such an attitude — the maori might disagree with me on that today, however.

Apologies if I am being too simplistic.
