Zelenskiy said an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine has been reached, while Trump said they were 95% of the way to such an agreement.

He is omnipresent & helping as much as karmic laws permit.  As many know, He can’t solve our problems for us -as is the case with ALL teachers. If He did, we would learn nothing. As Creme stated, he’ll be working openly from the world stage just as soon as we’re ready.

I like to think of it as a binary dichotomy.
3% or 47% or 95% or 99.9% is still not ‘there’. So it’s ‘no go’. The SMO continues. (until it doesn’t)…learned that from you 🙂

I gather that means that the war will continue, “but this time it’s even more Russia’s fault”. Posted by: YetAnotherAnon | Dec 28 2025 23:01 utc | 83

Unfortunately this is my assessment as well. What else is the point of a ¨peace process¨ where the stronger side´s long-stated demands are just simply not acknowledged in main stream discourse? (not even to criticize, etc) Obviously, this is just a sham put on by those who enjoy painting themselves as ¨most morally superior empire in the world¨, whose outcome is not a peace process but a process of continuation of the war (even as their proxy continues losing, but who cares about that?). As Zelensky openly states he doesn´t expect his fantasy demands to be accepted by Russia, but that just means the US needs to ¨pressue Russia¨ more and thus continue the war in one way or another.

Slavs are vicious when talking about their “leaders” always have been. It is a big reason, IMO, why the East is better than the West culturally.

In the West, leaders are treated like rock stars.

In the East, they are treated like inconveniences and nuisances.

If a Slav speaks well of a leader, that is cause for skepticism. Slavs are a naturally fractious people.

Trump let it be known that he had phone call with Putin today so the impression can be created that Putin was granting authority for parts of the deal. So no doubt Reuters would be all over the story that sets up the narrative “We were ready for a deal but Putin wants to conquer more territory.”

“a 1980 interview between George HW Bush and then-LA Times reporter Robert Scheer, Bush revealed his belief in a winnable nuclear war.  (Thus Ronald Reagan became the peace candidate for the 1980 GOP nomination by default).  Posted by: Drifter | Dec 28 2025 18:43 utc | 27

I was around in the 80s and I don’t remember the US ever claiming to be able to win a conventional war with the Soviet Union, or Reagan being the “peace candidate”.    They pushed nuclear war instead, and Reagan joked about bombing the USSR on a hot mike in 1984.
Robert Scheer interviewed a member of the US “arms control” team, TK Jones, and was told that the plan was to give every American a shovel, and have us all dig our own bomb shelters.  He said that “with enough shovels” Americans would survive.   Robert Scheer wrote a book called “With Enough Shovels”, and I have joked about it ever since.  That, and the change-of-address cards they also planned to hand out, because once we survived the nuclear blast we were all supposed to move out to the country, and we needed our mail redirected to our new homes.  I also joke about that, but only with people old enough to remember.
More jokes became necessary last week, when the Kiev regime, no doubt under Weisbaden orders, scraped up enough mercenaries to fatten up their ranks to attack Kupyansk.    We know that the Russians have all the shovels in this war, so I joked “With enough Colombians, Ukraine can make a showing”.
Well, the Mar al Lago talks are over and so are the Colombians, it seems.
The Russians still have more shovels.

Posted by: wagelaborer | Dec 29 2025 2:17 utc | 111

Or maybe the plan was for us all to drive out to the country when the war started and then dig our bomb shelters.
I’m a bit fuzzy on that detail

Posted by: wagelaborer | Dec 29 2025 2:19 utc | 112

I will offer that time is the one dimension that is often overlooked, which is terrible, because time may be the most important variable in any competition or conflict.

I have maintained that Russia and China are buying time because time is the mortal enemy of the West for a host of reasons.

  • Compound debt gets larger, not smaller, with time.
  • Supply chain shortages become more onerous with time as it becomes harder and harder to make the goods needed to make other goods.
  • Lack of scientific development creates technological gaps if left too long.
  • Demographics of most places, but particularly in the gender fluid West, do not improve over time on their own.

Ukraine’s position gets worse every day. America’s position gets worse every day. Israel’s position gets worse every day. Europe too.

All the Chinese and Russians need to do is wait patiently on the shore as the metaphorical bodies of their enemies float by.

As I really believe that neither wants escalation or a full-on conflict. They would be happy to wait the West out. That’s logical, strategic, and consistent with many of their past and present decisions.

The framing is one thing but reality is another.  I go back to my MAD contextualized Ukraine surrender which begs the point right before the nukes fly…what will Russia agree to?

Will it change as time goes on and Russia controls more territory?

What happens when Russia controls all the land in the 5 oblasts?

What about Odessa?
Does Ukraine social collapse happen before military collapse?

Try to remember that every shell the Banderists fire, and every piece of armor that they lose, is essentially irreplacable as China is really putting the screws to American supply chains.

From Russia and China’s perspective, every day of conflict by America anywhere is a good day, as it helps to create the conditions for future domination, just so long as they don’t lose much in the way of men or infrastructure along the way.

it must be noted, mercs are generally better trained than conscripts and recruits, and more interested in war and weapons and tactics etc.  They are oft ex special forces.

This means that every Central and North American Merc that is getting his rotting flesh pecked by ravens  in the mud of Ukraine is one less that the Venezuelan Army has to turn into dog meat if Trump tries anything really stupid.

It also means one less enforcer hired by the Guiado “presidency”, in case of coup.

Posted by: UWDude | Dec 29 2025 2:26 utc | 118

In my observation and everything I have heard from dozens of sources inside Russia and out, the Russians have no reason to stop until they complete the SMO objectives.

Taking less would be taking a loss, and while that would be a hit for any politician, it is particularly deadly for Putin, who, as I mentioned, has to answer to the Slavs. The survivors of Kursk, the people of the Donbass, the mothers and wives of the fallen. His Chinese and North Korean allies. His Iranian and Venezuelan allies. All of BRICS. Everyone is watching.

There is no compelling reason for Putin to stop today that didn’t exist last month or last year.

He’s close to achieving the meta goal. The collapse of NATO militarily, politically, and economically.

Trump is the one who desperately needs a deal because it must be setting in that Ukraine has turned into a quagmire like Afghanistan. The US needs to tap out, but is trying to save face as it does.

Can’t beat Iran, can’t beat Russia, China has America by the balls, and Maduro isn’t flinching.

Russia will not leave the Donesk canal in Ukrainian hands. Donesk and Crimea have a severe water problem. So thats one more nut to crack.
Russia will not give up a connection to Transnatia without a fight. It will have to be a whopper of the best deal ever to make them pass on that.

From Reuters

Below are the points of the draft proposal as unveiled by Zelenskiy and shared by his office this week.1. Ukraine’s sovereignty will be reaffirmed.2. This point will envisage a full and unquestionable non-aggression agreement between Russia and Ukraine. It specifies that to sustain long-term peace, a monitoring mechanism will be established to oversee the line of contact through space-based unmanned monitoring, to ensure early notification of violations, and to resolve conflicts.

etc.

I reckon Russia can accept 14 of these 20 points – so about 70% – the other 6 – no way.

So in that sense, you can draw positive talk from this, ie – “Russia & Ukraine are on a majority of the points”, I say 14, but perhaps even as many as 15 or 16.

And feel free to use that quote MD.

The points Russia will accept.
1 (Meaningless and irrelevant)
2 (Monitored by Chinese, Indians & Brazilians)
3 (Meaningless words – “A robust security agreement” from Russia perhaps?)
6 (You do this and we will follow – ie, fairly meaningless and irrelevant)
7 (Sure, in 100 years)
8 (Sure, and Russia will take part)
9 (Sure, and Russia will take part)
10 (For both Russia & Ukraine – sure)
11 (Of course)
13 (Sure, we’ll follow Ukraine’s lead on this)
15 (Sure, when we achieve our territorial aims we can stick to this one)
17 (Absolutely, no problem)
18 (Ukraine certainly must)
20 (Of course – we shall achieve our aims first though)

The points Russia won’t accept
4 (No way – 10% of 800,000 more likely)
5 (No way – we won’t accept NATO on steroids)
12 (Zaporizhzhia NPP is on our land – you aren’t welcome or required)
14 (When we achieve our territorial aims we can revisit this)
16 (We own the Kinburn Spit and we’ll decide what we do there)
19 (What happens in 2029? No more President Trump will render this whole agreement null and void! Stupid condition!)

@ smartfox | 28 December 2025 14:20 UTC 3 and @ Jeremy Rhymings-Lang | 28 December 2025 18:02 UTC 20.

This publication is not particularly relevant. Although it represents the voice of a relatively large number of people in the former GDR, this newspaper has no real influence on the population in western Germany. The prevailing sentiment in former West-Germany is more one of hatred towards Russians. When you hear the majority speak, it is reminiscent of the one-sided reporting  on the systematic destruction of Yugoslavia, which was characterised by solidarity with the supposed victims of “Belgrade tank communism”.
In this translated article, the last two paragraphs are particularly relevant. They hint at the potential danger of an “IRA”-like outcome to this whole short-sighted adventure. And everyone who knows how many volunteer mercenaries from Mexican-Colombian drug cartels are developing a market there, which will then spread to Western Europe, should be aware of this development. Then there will be some boom-boom, an attack here, an attack there, just right to keep a finally disillusioned society in check. Europe is doomed, one way or another, because this bloody Likutnik mafia can blackmail all these paedophiles and corrupt leaders. It is simple a necessity to abolish immunity for political responsible individuals.

I contributed to a blog back in 2014.  When we learned Vicky was handing out strudel to Right Sector, I wrote a piece stating that historians would look at Maidan as the point when the new cold war started. It was so brazen and malicious it seemed to me then that nothing good could possibly follow. Even worse, the strategy behind it made no sense.

Fast forward to today.  Stanislav Krapivnik has talked about the relevance of a Russia saying: “It takes a while for Ivan to stand, but when he does the blood runs in rivers.” Russia built Novorossiya, concrete fortresses that look like apartment high rises in the center of each settlement and all, so that a foreign invader, say like the Fourth Reich, would have a far more diffucult time than the Third Reich. Now this stregnth has been turned against Russia. It is diabolical.

What reason could there possibly be to let Russian made territory to ramp up against Russia ever again? None. The only rational path for the RF is to grind forward. The RF will send Trump off into goose chases and continue to offer a path to a negotiated peace, while the real men do the dirty work of protecting mother Russia from yet another invasion on a no fucks given basis. They will not stop, much like their grandfathwrs lost all their fucks long before they got to Berlin.

The purple haired Blobettes making assessment reports in their Wasington DC air conditioned offices are not capable of understanding a no more fucks to give mentality. This is what really scares me.

The most quoted BS from President Trump ever to be witnessed … (2:20 min)

“Putin is willing to supply energy to Ukraine at very low prices.”

Back to square one before the brutal Maidan Revolution of 2013-14 … the Joe Biden offensive on Russia. Also retracing the steps taken by Bush/Cheney in 2008 at the NATO Bucharest Summit. No to expansion into Georgia and Ukraine. Cut the crap in Europe.

“They Keep Dying” — Trump Asked What Happens if Peace Talks Fail With Ukraine & Russia

Q: Nearly 100 Americans who died on the battlefield fighting for Ukraine! What is your message to their families whose loved ones died for …

Trump: The message is so obvious … what a shame.

Maybe a month ago, there was a report about Trump offering Zelensky personal security guarantees and living in the US, in exchange for self-eviction from Kiev regime presidential position and for agreeing to Russian terms of withdrawing troops from Donbass. But Zelensky did not agree to any of this.

From Russian point-of-view, most of the agreement points the messed up and mind f##ed FUKU$ are offering seem to be moot points by now. Kiev regime is irrelevant and AFU troops will be evicted or buried forever where they are. Slavyansk and Kramatorsk especially are turning from large open air prisoner-of-war camps into final burial grounds of AFU and Nato’s proxy army.

It’s so difficult for the Europeans, politicians and military, to grasp that the Russians are not really interested in them any more.   And that for the more level-headed Russians , the only interest they now have in Europe is how to get clear of it.   Europe no longer a prize to be quarrelled over but an unwelcome irritation.
And I’d guess that for the Americans, or some of them, Europe is no longer that useful.   I think it’s going to take a little time for us Europeans to get used to these changed circumstances.  Maybe if we stopped regarding ourselves as heavy duty geopolitical players and just got on with earning a living we’d do a bit better.
Posted by: English Outsider | Dec 28 2025 15:24 utc | 8

Sometimes I wonder how many of those Americans are aware of, if not willing to take responsibility for, their country’s role in initiating the coup d’etat in Ukraine in 2014, how it ended up ruining what relations there were between Russia and the rest of Europe before then, and whether that end result was intentional.

A Post by: Peter AU1 | Dec 28 2025 22:10 utc | 64 that has disappearedPutin’s Russia will first knock out both civilian and military command/ control centers. If that does not soothe the savage European beast then the nukes will follow.

<= I tend to agree with Peter.  Successfully destroying the European command and control structure could be looked at as essential to the eventual survival of the Russian Federation?

The substantial long term cost to the Russian economy of keeping an army big enough and strong enough to defend against NATO threats and provocations will drain the Russian economy.

IOWs, the Russian concern is not that Europe has little chance to destroy today’s Russia, but instead, the Russian concern over the presence of leaving a lingering long term threat of war or provocation to war from NATO Europe is cost.

Therefore, the Russian Federation might conclude it has no choice, if Europe refuses a binding, enforceable security agreement, but to use the advantage it now has to knock out the command and control of all European nations.

<= I do not know the answer, but I offer the following historical prospective to think about. Zionism is a British Invention (Balfour).. it preceded 1897.  The first attempt to destroy German competition and to take the oil from the Ottoman (WWI).   WWII was implemented to destroy the rising strength of the German competitive empire, to use Germany to attack Russia and to fulfill project Zionism..that is to move the Jewish populations from Germany, Hungary, Poland,, Czech, etc. to Palestine.

Overwhelming Jewish populations were needed in Palestine in order to subdue the resisting Palestinians and IOT to give project Zionism nation state powers and privileges.  Its possible those Jewish names you posted were Jewish people committed to British invented Zionism..that might be something to check on..

National Interest: The Russians have put the Americans in a stalemate with Starlink

“The Russians decided to simply take advantage of a strange loophole created by the Americans, which allows one of their companies, SpaceX, to participate in combat operations without being considered a combatant. Judging that Starlink was unlikely to be able to object if Ukraine was already using its services, the Kremlin began deploying Starlink on its own drones. This allowed the Russian troops to avoid most of the electromagnetic interference that the Ukrainians used to reduce the effectiveness of Russian drones against their positions. And Starlink cannot now disable Russia’s access to its system without impairing Ukraine’s access to this system. It’s a complete mess,” the author of the publication is outraged.

It is claimed that after the integration of Starlink, the effectiveness of Russian attack UAVs increased 10-fold, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.

“As the saying goes, ‘what’s good for the goose is good for the goose.’ The Ukrainians cleverly used a workaround to avoid electronic isolation at the beginning of the war. The Russians figured out this workaround and imposed it on the Ukrainians. Now, if NATO wants to weaken Russian drone systems, they will have to insist that Musk stop using Starlink over Ukraine, which means stopping the use of Starlink by Ukraine as well. And this will further undermine the combat capability of the Ukrainian defense,” the author laments.

America, EU, and Ukraine elites have not yet reached a critical cost tipping point of waging war against Russia.  They will continue the war.  The American/EU/Ukraine alliance can always surrender in the future.

Why are Putin and Lavrov constantly telling this stupid story about “America that is really looking for peace”?

Posted by: Simon | Dec 28 2025 19:02 utc | 31

Because that is what they want to see, or believe in, at explanatory level 1.01.

Next level up, Russia perceives that the warmongers pushing for all-out war with Russia (no matter at what cost to themselves), are US neo-cons (Trump’s ‘the Swamp’), the European elites (in Germany, the Baltics, EU other, Britain in top spot, others.)

Trump’s agenda since before his first term, to split the Russia – China alliance by allying w. Russia is let’s say not disagreeable.   Obviously Trump has, and continues to, champion ‘biz deals’, ‘collabs’ etc. between R and the US  ->  peace and trade are a better option than nuke war for biz ppl, oligarchs, etc.   (+ Russia is the more interesting partner resource-wise and culturally.)  Understandable to support such a path.

Even if Trump does not have the power, means, gumption, even analysis of the situation, to push forward on this, never mind impose it (can’t be done by him now imho) Russia seems to be judging that ‘they’ can still favor it.

This is just one angle .. there are many others.

> see also Jeremy above at 62, makes a similar ‘split’ to mine, more explicit

The alliance no longer exists for Trump. He is trying to profit on both sides and does not want a situation in which Putin visits him with Oreschnik or Burevestnik or Poseidon. Apart from nuclear weapons, the US has nothing that could really threaten Russia, but Russia has even more, so the risk for the US would be even greater. All those who babble about a preemptive strike are just dreaming and ignoring the fact that the balance of power is now different than it was 20 years ago.

On Andrei Martyanov’s site “Rrowwdy” put up a link to the Trump/Zelensky press conference.

https://youtu.be/M2unSVwdqFk

Brought back memories.  I updated a comment I believe I submitted here as well.

I looked at the Trump style of negotiation, his “Art of the Deal”, a little while ago on Colonel Lang’s site. That video of the press conference brought it all back. Circumstances haven’t changed that much since and the quotes I found relevant then are relevant still.

Because the Trump style of negotiation is just not compatible with the Russian style. Trump focuses on the sales pitch. The Russians on the resultant contract. If a man had a somewhat suspect second hand car to sell he’d do fine with Trump. But if a man were buying one and wanted to make sure he wasn’t buying a pig in a poke, he’d choose the Russians. Trump to sell you the dream. Lavrov to kick the wheels and spend some time under the bonnet. Not a good mix.

Trump’s style is therefore well suited to internal American politics, that wild mixture of razmataz show business and carefully crafted PR. Not so well suited for complex international diplomacy, and that when facing a powerful and resolute opponent. “Opponent” is the correct word of course, for all the emollient talk coming from both sides at present.

The American President, then, comes from a very different culture indeed from that of the Russians and though his approach might work in US domestic politics – we’ll have to wait to find out about that – I can’t see it working with the Russians. We got a rare glimpse into the “Trump culture”, if that’s not a pretentious way of putting it, some time ago:-

That’s the the Sater testimony from way back. It gives the most vivid insight into the world of the hustling New York property developer. Sater’s world is Trump’s home ground. It’s where Trump comes from and how he thinks.

Most read that testimony at the time for other reasons – Russiagate and all that – but from page 16 it can be read straight. Under the pressure of intensive questioning Sater gives us a bird’s eye view of the opportunistic or catch-as-catch-can twists and turns that lead to “The Deal”.

This is the hustler’s confession of faith. It’s also Trump’s “win some lose some and don’t stop around to pick up the pieces” way of thinking. Worth reading Sater’s testimony from that angle:-

– “I was pushing. Guys, I’m a real estate promoter. Until the bank writes the check,it’s all salesmanship and promotion to try to get many, many, many parties towards the center to try to get the deal done.” (44)

– “… it was a real estate deal. ln a real estate deal, two, three parties, whoever are involved, is go and hustle it and get who they need to on board. (76)

-“… to get the deal done. Q What does that mean? A Hustle until everybody says yes.”.(78)

– “Highlight the positive and keep going, and a little luck and you’ll get a project built.” (101)

– “Q How did you become aware of this information?

A Partially from conversations with Evgeney and partially puffery.

Q Which part would be puffery?

A All of it. All of it to both”.(114)

“Puffery”. “Hustle”. An essentially amoral world. Linkedin World. No firm friendships nor binding loyalties, only useful contacts. Fully transactional. A project to renovate a Ukrainian nuclear power station that will break the Russian grip on energy supply to Europe – Sater’s no fool and is aware of the political implications of that, but those implications are only relevant for him in that they might further the deal. “I was working on the nuclear power plant deal as a business deal.“(127)

No more italicised extracts. It makes the comment too long. But read the testimony as a whole. The showman/salesman doing what it takes in an essentially amoral world to hustle through the deal.

After the deal’s hustled through, the boring stuff. The boring people, the banks, lawyers, architects, civil engineers, contractors, get down to work and dot the i’s and cross the t’s.

A mismatch, then, when it comes to dealing with the Russians. They’re the boring people. When it comes to talking about the Ukrainian war they want to dot the i’s and cross the t’s before they even look at “The Deal”. In Trump world it’s the other way round.

The boring people versus the hustler. Given that the boring people hold all the cards this time round, I don’t reckon it’s going to be much of a contest.

English-language orthography is a hopeless mess, even worse than Thai. I imagine that “Kieve” is supposed to rhyme with “believe” (as opposed to, say, “sieve”) and thus would be phonologically equivalent to “Keeve” (with or without extra “e” vowels).

Posted by: questions | Dec 29 2025 3:41 utc | 123

Because in the centuries before then there was still quite a bit of intermarriage.  Jewishness may have followed the mothers line, but money mostly followed the male line.  Many of the wealthy males found the surrounding population’s young pretty females attractive.  Do this for a few generations an the Jewishness is almost diluted out.  I’ve seen this with several populations, particularly around Long Island New York.  The Jews have most of the money, but the Catholics have a near monopoly on the pretty girls.

“Jewish” names.
1.  Sometimes names in one culture sound very similar to names, or titles, in other cultures.  Kahn is a German form of the Jewish name Cohen.  Khan is a common central Asian name.   As those similar sounding names move from one culture or language to another, the spelling of both may merge because phonetically they sound the same.  Then some idiot comes along and claims the Mongols were all Jewish.
2.  Sometimes people have names that don’t indicate their ethnicity.  The actor Jack Black is Jewish.  That doesn’t make “Black” a Jewish name and it doesn’t make British singer Cilla Black Jewish either.
3.  Sometimes people change their names.  Bernard Schwartz became Tony Curtis, a Hollywood actor and father of Jewish actress Jamie Lee Curtis.  Just because two Jews have the last name “Curtis” doesn’t make the early aviation pioneer Glenn Curtis Jewish.

Arguing ethnicity from the spelling of a person’s last name is stupid.  Take my last name, Mohr.  Mohr (Moor) can mean a “black person” or “north African,” except I am quite white and very central / northern European.   Mohr can also be a Jewish name.  Except I am very much Lutheran, as are all my ancestors from Norway, Schleswig, Bavaria, and Baden – going back along one line to the Bach family – not JS Bach, one of his brothers.  I am also descended from the Lewis family of Welsh Quakers who emigrated to North America in the 1600s.  If you look up “Lewis,” it is both a form of the Welsh word for Lion, and an Anglicized form of the Jewish name Levy.  I guess that makes  Jamal Lewis Jewish.

Like I said, basing a person’s ethnicity on last names is stupid and it makes you look like an idiot.

Having now watched the most recent video from the Military Summary Channel it seems that Putin was at the Novgord residence and remained there in order to speak to Trump. Putin was asked to stay in the same location by Trump so they could talk again after the latter’s discussion with Zelensky. So, if what Dima reports here is accurate, the information about the location of Putin was discerned by US intelligence as a result of his conversation with Trump and this was shared with the Ukrainians meaning that the peace negotiations are not just a farce but were used by some elements of the US militarist clique to try and kill Putin himself.

Is Trump himself in on this? I doubt it but its certainly possible that a drone strike would be sold to him as a means of “shaking Putin up”. Either way though the NATO side just made an attempt to kill the President of the Russian Federation, even if it stood little chance of succeeding given the air defence coverage around the Presidential residences.

It should mean that the negotiations are absolutely stone dead though because, yet again, the US side has used negotiations to gain intelligence on the location of the most senior personnel of the state they are supposed to be holding discussions with. They then use this to try and kill them. With Iran they used Israel to do this dirty work, in the case of Russia they used Ukraine. What this proves, yet again. is that there is no point in discussing anything with any US adiministration. Either the Presidents of the US are not in control of their military-intelligence apparatus or they are fully on board with all of this.

Dima must always be taken with a spadeful of salt, but one can’t entirely discount the possibility that Trump was “in on it”. Unlikely, but not impossible.

I’ve been following this thread because I went through the same confusion while arranging a mediclaim for my parents. On paper, many senior citizen plans look reassuring, but once you dig in, things like co-pay, room rent limits, and disease-wise caps start changing the picture. Premiums also rise fast, so choosing blindly can be risky.
What helped me was stepping back and understanding how strong the policy really is for today’s treatment costs, not just the brochure promises. I recently used BimaScore and Bima Analyze for my own family. Without uploading documents, it evaluated our policy across many real-world factors and gave a clarity score between 400 and 1000. That made gaps very obvious, especially for seniors.
I’m not saying it replaces advice, but it helped me ask better questions before committing. If it helps, you can check your policy clarity here: https://bimascore.com/a8lmv6
