Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

U.S. Requires Social Strip-Search On Entry

During the 1990s and up to the year 2001 I had visited the United States more than a dozen times. I had touched down and traveled through 22 of its 50 states. About half of that traveling was part of my job, the other half was vacationing and visiting friends.

After the 9/11 attacks the U.S. shut down. Coming in by air plane required to take part in some ridiculous security theater. The previously already annoying waiting in line and questioning by custom and immigration officials got worse. Travelers were no longer welcome. I canceled my already planned future visits.

It  now gets worse:

U.S. plans to ask visitors to disclose 5 years of social media history (archived) – WaPo

The United States could begin requiring visitors from countries on the visa waiver program to provide up to five years of their social media history, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection proposal posted to the Federal Register to be officially published Wednesday.

There are dozens of countries on the visa waiver program list, including many European nations, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Qatar, Israel and Chile.

The proposal suggests adding social media as a “mandatory data element” for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) application.

Applicants would also have to provide additional information “when feasible,” according to the proposal. The list includes telephone numbers used in the last five years, email addresses used in the last 10 years, IP addresses and metadata from electronically submitted photos, and biometrics, including facial, fingerprint, DNA and iris data.

It would also require applicants to provide information about their family members, including names, telephone numbers, dates of birth, places of birth and residences.

A visitor will also have to use a U.S. government supplied app and pay some US$ 40 for the privilege. European visitors will have to  break their countries data protection laws to provide family member data.

The most egregious request though is for social media data. The proposal says:

3. Mandatory Social Media:

In order to comply with the January 2025 Executive Order 14161 (Protecting the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats), CBP is adding social media as a mandatory data element for an ESTA application. The data element will require ESTA applicants to provide their social media from the last 5 years.

U.S. Custom and Border Protection is already collecting social media data from H-1b visa applicants:

As of December 15, the Department will expand the requirement that an online presence review be conducted for all H-1B applicants and their dependents, in addition to the students and exchange visitors already subject to this review. To facilitate this vetting, all applicants for H-1B and their dependents (H-4), F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas are instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public.”

It is likely that the same requirement will be introduced for ESTA applicants.

CBP has yet to introduce a mandatory public strip-search on entry. One wonders why they are holding back on that.

To travel to China is now much easier than to travel to the ‘leader of the free world’. There are no visa requirements in China for up to  30 day visits from my country. No questions are asked. There are no checks on social media. There are no immigration lines, just a 10 second glance at one’s passport. Besides that crime is low in China and prices are decent.

Is the U.S. unaware of how much damage it does to its global image by demanding a ridiculous amount of private data from any visitor to it? Or doesn’t it care?

I for one don’t plan to visit the U.S. ever again.

just ask any American for the last 108 years. it’s impossible to grasp how the ruling class religion called “anti-communism” has destroyed this country and totally ruined people’s capacity to perceive reality.  the people are so dead they can’t figure out their only enemy is the state that is poisoning their food.

and what they mean by “action” is actually simply shopping. “What’s death like? it’s a lot like shopping,” somebody says in Delillo’s “White Noise.”

No I wasnt.  You said occupy was astroturfed, (which i am sure most here know by now I spent three months at), but “No Kings” was grassroot.  You got lots of pushback on that, and then got even more shrill, claiming No Kings was the beginning of the downfall of America and would lead to civil war.

I offered you a self ban bet, fir one year, that if there were no protests within two weeks, and no civil war, you would self ban for a year, if there still was, I would self ban.  You did not say, “Hey, i didnt mean literal civil war”, which you cleaely did, you instead just finked out with something about not making bets.

I thought you were finally in some mode of self reflection about how stupid you were being, but a few hours later you came back and pisted news about a Minnesota state house rep and his wife being shot by a guy supposedly with a No Kings flyer in his car, and then you went full retard,
There is no doubt after that incident you were quite sure No kings would lead to civil war,  Not some rhetorical ideological civil war, but reall bullet flying downfall of America civil war.

And every time after I “reminded”  you of your stupidity, you never denied, which I thought surely you would and write a long essay about jow you meant something else, but, finally, today, you came around, with your long stupid essay trying to weasel away from what you were actually writing.

This is what scouring AI apps for convenient data points without a thought in the world what it all means. The issue is not “how many surveillance cameras” there are, but in what manner are they being used by the Authorities and Governments.

So what we have here is typical lies, dammed lies and statistics. The OECD hold over 1 billion people and China holds over 1.4 billion and is now as economically and technologically advanced as the western sphere is. So the question really should be why wouldn’t China have say ~54% of all surveillance cameras in the world?

No one can make them better or cheaper or use them more wisely than China does.

I agree with your observation on boomers. I have a 3 year older brother and his age and mine fit roughly within your demographic categorization with the caveat that I grew up in Australia which may have been a bit behind the US in generational influences. My older brother has always been far more materialistically money-minded , conservative, concerned with prestige, material success, the value and brand of his car, having a big house, sometimes racist, and likes and promotes people gratifying his ego for his material successes that come and go. He’s always been a bit of an Australian Donald Trump in the way he talks about himself and far more influenced by the 1950s culture. I grew up with Woodstock, anti-Vietnam war, not interested greatly in materialism, a peace activist,  more interested in intellectual development and learning, interested in equality not unjust greedy capitalism, vocal on politics, arts, sciences etc. etc.  It was consequently not a good recipe for discussion around the dinner table in the evening since my brother and my parents were conservatives, pro-Vietnam war – as we used to say ‘straight’, and very much concerned with prestige and appearances. I left home as soon as I finished school for that reason as many did in my time. (So called ‘generation gap’).

Calibri is a proprietary font, even if damage cases with TDS think otherwise. To use Calibri you must have legal Microsoft products installed on your computing device, or proprietary commercial products that include the licensing fee in the price you pay. In all cases (Microsoft, Adobe, etc) those products are insecure by design and provide backdoor access of your device to… guess who. Mandating Calibri is just a not-so-sly way to make sure an organization’s network is open to the usual suspects.

The US is not going to turn up the heat, it is at many levels 10 years behind China now (particularly with rare earths/refining/processing) and even the most recent 2025 Rand Corporation report on US-China relations which has significant traction with US administrations and Pentagon, counsels that the US back off, take a less aggressive stance, and change their tune with China. We can even see Trump doing that already. China’s technology/military technology/ computing/chips, electronics, ship building, energy generation – even AI is progressing very fast. Sanctions have not worked and BRICS and SCO are firming up as well.

It’s all connected IMO. The state doesn’t collapse one day and then nothing. There will be a lead-up as people feather their nests along the way; there will be fractures and precipitating events.

Like a Black Swan event, it is only understood ex-post, when it will all seem so obvious. Until the event happens, few see the signs and translate the context into meaning.

My thesis is that we’ve started to see all manner of signs of collapse, domestic and foreign. I don’t know when a collapse will happen, and I don’t know specifically what it will look like. But I am pretty sure that riots (real and promoted) will likely feature in it.

In my observation, Westerners know how to impotently protest and rely on that for catharsis until they can be duped in the next election.

In many places in the ROW, when things get to street level action, someone is going to get killed, maybe many someones. Maybe that happens in America. Do TPTB let it get to that point, and if it does, with such tight media control, how draconian will the kinetic response be?

I’ve hardly ever watched TV in my life any probably haven’t watched it at all for the last 20 years. Tarring any group with the one brush is always going to be a mistake because it is largely constructed out of ignorance and prejudice. Especially if you compare different countries –  I do not come from the US.

Saying X demographic are all the same and homogenous at any level is divisive and that is exactly what the Machiavellian elites who control government and media want.

the biggest left name speaking out against Israel is….  Hasan Piker, and he is getting sued by Ethan Klein, probably the second biggest.  if you never heard of either is because neither are really that big.  Maybe The Young Turks as well, but afaik, all three love Ukraine.
there is also  The Gray Zone, Glen Greenwald and Jimmy Dore, but they have been disavowed mostly by the left for support for ukraine, and in the case of Jimmy, coming out againt the pfizer needling after it caused him health problems.

meanwhile, on yhe right, there is Tucker, and Candace, who a few here suspiciously seem to hate, out of all right wing commentators, candace, who i said, ignorantly “aint shit” to some bitch “warning” us about her, is actually bigger than Joe Rogan now.
there is also nick fuentes, who, while banned from everything, including banking, shows up everywhere.
Tucker spends about 10% of his time on the JQ, Candace about 70%, and Fuentes about 50%..  None of them support Ukraine either.
Then there is Marjprie Tyler Greene who resigned from congress over Israel and Ukraine, among other things.

Do these cons ever get their deserved props from the left?  Hardly.  Ana Kasparian of TYT has recently apologized and reconciled, but other than that the left is pretty quiet when it comes to people who matter, and most of the left posters here who dont matter, claim to be neither, but can not see hiw “America First” is a positive movement for the world.

Looks like Trump is now trying to destroy the US tourism business as well.  It’s been bad enough with downturns in hotels and restaurants due to domestic economic problems, and airport shutdowns as well. Now he has put another nail in its coffin.

Posted by: GeorgeWendell | Dec 11 2025 0:53 utc | 227

FYI, the Washington Post article cited in b’s post states that this is a proposed measure for ESTA visas, which most overseas visitors require for any visit to the US including air travel connections, even if you don’t leave the airport.

Similar requirements have previously been applied to other visa categories. All immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applicants have been required to disclose their social media accounts since 2019 in a change implemented during the previous Trump administration, covering about 15 million applicants per year, according to an analysis by the Brennan Center for Justice. In June, the State Department made it a requirement for student visa applicants to have their social media accounts set to public, and the same requirement soon goes into effect for H-1B high-skilled worker visa applicants.

According to CBP, the proposal is open for a 60-day public comment period.

NK is basically China if they had lowered the slider on economic development and upped the slider on military and internal security.

They might not have a great economy like China, but they are 100% self sufficient, immune to colour revolutions and have full control of their sovereignty. Due to their focus on security preparations, in the event of a nuclear conflict, they would likely have the highest % of their population survive compared to countries like CN or US.

They’re probably a better, more realistic model for the global south, as the majority do not have the resources that China and Russia have access to that allow them to do economic development while maintaining a powerful military that can act as a credible deterrent.

By screwing tourism, you can create a stimulus check-based economy, and then you can punish your political enemies by not giving them stimulus.

Here in the U$$A, the general public has so long been deliberately dumbed down into herd mentality and serfish obedience that they favor either the Dumbocraps or the Repooplickans.  You get two choices at the voting booth, both orchestrated by the same financial ownership class, a demographic consisting of only a few hundred crime clans.

Posted by General Factotum@ 1:O9: The underlying problem throughout the world is centralization—both of political and economic power and by demographic constipation.  An old cattleman pointed out to me years ago that when the herd is concentrated they tend to axiomatically develop a herd mentality, becoming incapable of original thought and simply thinking for themselves.  The AI materialistic crowd is all about developing a hive mind, totally without art, spirit or even elementary human dignity.

China, India and Bangladesh are hopelessly overcrowded.  There is not sufficient arable land for national self-sustainment. Somewhat the reverse in the U$ and Canuckistan, where there are NO more farmers.  Those who like to call themselves farmers are merely heavy equipment operators and chemical warfare applicators.  Evil corporations such as Dupont and Monsanto, as well as ag equipment producers are delighted with that turn of events.

The ancient African proverb of “It takes a village to raise a child” is spot on.  North American children and kids grow up in a never-never land of sub-urbanite dissociation from the natural world.  Thus, lacking common sense, they readily fall prey to “special interests” owned by trillionaires and mega-billionaires…the shareholder class.  Mere stockholders are in essence mostly of the gambler class.

Have visited the US several times in the past (pre 9/11), always enjoyed it and found the people very friendly. Not planning any future visits, but I don’t have any social media anyway, wonder if they would believe that? Recall Australian Customs shoved me up against a wall and patted me down, this in front of my two young children who were crying in fear, this is our civilization now, decrepit, immoral, corrupt, Zionist and collapsing.

The same Zionist control everywhere. Think of Epstein and how that is the model that explains why the entire West has politicians that do what their told. Even if they aren’t part of this racket they comply to cover their mates and advance their political ambitions. Believe me this is massive and it would help to explain many things about the way politicians seem to suddenly behave like puppets to many people.

I totally agree with that. They have no choice it’s the monoparty run by “crime clans” as you say. The job of the media and both parties is to make it appear like there are vast differences between both parties which the sheeple easily get caught up in and vehemently argue about. It’s more or less the same here in Oz and throughout the West now where two party systems prevail.

This is offensive, ludicrous, and stupid. As a USAian, I certainly understand why you no longer plan to visit this corrupt, end-stage capitalist, crazy fascist police state, b.
No idea what benefit the Trump admin purports to gain from collecting fingerprints, face images, iris scans and DNA from regular foreign travellers. Plus social media history for last 5 years. ?!
How much does all this cost US taxpayers? USA is a police state. Been happening for 24 years — since 9/11 and Patriot Act in 2001. Fundamentally changed this country.
But it took USAians a long time to notice. We are a beaten down, heavily propagandized, exploited people — all the BS about freedom and fighting for our rights, etc. to the contrary. Docile, fearful, immiserated, resigned sheeps we are for the most part.

I called Ukraine/Trump last year. Since then, the Duran and Danny Davis have probably done 100+ hours of podcasts about “ending the war”.

I didn’t call it because I am an insider or a genius. I just took the Russians seriously and applied a rational analysis of the incentives surrounding Trump.

How many thousands of comments about Trump/Peace/Ukraine have there been at MoA this calendar year?

The war will end when Putin (or whoever is the Russian leader after Putin) says it is ending. No sooner. No one can make Putin stop. It is now a matter of Russian/Slavic pride to kill Nazis and to wreck NATO.

This can go on for another decade as far as Russia is concerned. This is existential, and they are continuing to gain strength. The West is not so fortunate.

Just as well I wasn’t planning on the World Cup.eanwhile US has approved another $800 million for Ukraine.
For the peace of course.
Those barflies who call Trump’s plan a peace plan are naive. The peace initiative will come from EU countries. While America will push them to go to war. This isn’t a people’s war against Russia. It’s America’s war, has been all along, and will be until America is defeated.

$800 million for Ukraine is just another example that the US always speaks with a forked tongue and cannot be trusted. This on top of yesterday’s announcement that Trump is giving Zelensky until Christmas to respond to his peace plan. This additional money for the US MIC is endorsed by congress too, so once again the work of the monoparty.
Russia will continue doing what it has been doing all along and it knows full well that whatever Trump or the US says, it’s a duplicitous administration, and the country that started the war it now seeks to blame everyone else for.

Ok but aren’t there other equivalent fonts too? I’m asking out of genuine ignorance. I’m a construction guy.

Posted by: Tom_Q_Collins | Dec 11 2025 6:45 utc | 286

Gruff:

Again, since I know you’re a ‘dev’ type – could you please give me the rundown on how this proprietary font shit works? I mean, I know that using Bluebeam which ‘interacts’ with Adobe stuff (and Adobe itself – hate their software, FWIW) lets you install certain font packages, including crap like Univers and Calibri and Aptos, etc. I have no idea who owns any of it. My wife’s firm got served a cease-and-desist letter from some lawyer or graphic artist a few years ago because apparently the company they used to create their small business website used a “proprietary” font, and the letter also demanded a rather large sum of money. They just got back in touch with the sender or his lawyers and said “fuck off” we’ll change it, which they did to a similar looking font, apparently ‘open source’ or something.

In construction I primarily use TNR (like this site) or Arial Narrow, because you can fit more characters in the comments/notes field on a drawing (plans/blueprints) using the same size (point) as regular Arial. I think Calibri is also more compact (but again, I hate it and nobody in the industry uses it anyway).

But how about this back door shit? Like seriously – does banning a font really equate to closing some sort of backdoor to gov’t systems, and if so who cares since Microsoft products probably already run like 99% of gov’t computers/platforms anyway?

Again, I’m genuinely curious. I’ve never discussed this with anyone, like ever.

Also, Gruff – let’s be serious. I think that Israeli firms, or heavily Zionist infiltrated “IT” firms run like 90% of US cyber security now, according to something I read pretty recently at MintPress or GrayZone or U N Z.

What I’m getting at is that I respect your tech credentials/knowledge, but I think you might be kinda FOS about this supposedly “technical” or “security” reason for banning Calibri, and only Calibri. No offense intended. I’ll always be happy to call  out bullshit or at least try to learn something new if I feel like I’m being bullshitted and end up being wrong.

Just in general, BTW – I know it probably wasn’t aimed at me if in fact anyone has actually read anything I’ve written here over the years, but whenever I see “TDS” now I always picture the person using the term as strapping on a dildo and inserting it into a duct tape lined hole cut in the mouth of a life-sized cardboard caricature/rendition of Trump.  I mean, what the fuck even is “TDS” now except Trump Dick Sucker? The dude’s a disaster, which I guess is not ruling out that some people (myself to varying degrees included) want to see the Empire implode and thus view Trump as a vehicle to both take the mask off and hasten this. But if someone is going to try justifying the Barack IbombU style extra-judicial, illegal double-tap Ziocon style murder of  boat people in seafaring vessels that couldn’t reach the US, aren’t even aimed at places involved in trafficking to the US, or seizing the ships of long-term targeted socialist or semi-socialist/populist governments, then yeah frankly I think they’re fucking idiots for accusing the accuser of having “TDS” when clearly we’ve been bitching about this shit at least since IbombU murdered the Awlaki family via drone.

Just sayin.

Not saying it was a good decision. And while I don’t hate the guy (which I think should clear me of any possible diagnosis of “TDS”), I do think he’s a walking disaster and really cannot understand any rational person defending him at this late stage of the game.

In response to Tom_Q_Collins@294,

For many people, Trump is a symptom, not the disease. If you ask yourself, whether the US would become a “normal” country with the removal of Trump, and the answer is “No” — maybe “Not even close” — you might find that some individuals react in an unexpectedly emotional way. Same with trying to make the point that the US, on the international stage, has largely behaved as if Trump was president, ever since the restraining factor of the Soviet union disappeared, and it wasn’t exactly an angel during the cold war either. Or, with trying to explain that Trump isn’t necessarily a relevant factor to how some specific situation has unfolded, and that it’s an oversimplification to imagine Trump’s hand on the wheel of the US, or pulling the strings of world events — that, maybe, he’s at most partially in charge of his own optics, and not doing a particularly good job at that either.

You could try a random sample of people, who are interested in discussing US politics, and try introducing a few such subversive interpretations, or come up with your own. If they start calling you a Trump supporter, insulting you or otherwise behaving erratically, you’ll understand what TDS is. I’d imagine most are familiar with the symptoms of Putin derangement syndrome at least, which come with their own specific nuances, but produce very similar behavior during social interactions with those afflicted. Presenting a well-meaning counterpoint triggers a kind of conditioned, aggressive response in those particularly sensitive to what is, essentially, a form of insidious neuro-linguistic programming.

What choice did you have between bad and bad? Harris and continuation of Biden and his neocons v’s Trump and his neocons?

The illusion is that there is a significance between Democrat and Republican when its a monoparty.

TDS in my view is about making everyone else have a mental disorder when the person with the clearest mental disorder is Trump.

Reminds me of the idea that covering the entire surface of the globe with leather is somehow more sensible than just putting leather on the soles of your  shoes.

Contrary to what some here may believe, and I’m not proud to admit it either, I also considered voting for Trump this time around. I haven’t voted Dem in the Prez election since Gore (stupid me, not knowing Ziocon cutout Lieberman for what he was at the time, but still think it would have been better than Bush/Cheney), but I lean hard left in the classical sense and yet I still strongly considered voting Trump after he told various lies about what his presidency would really be about (again, stupid me – he’s a Zionist puppet like Biden but won’t outright admit it, and a total sellout to the oligarch warmonger class).

But yeah, I get you.

Abso-fucking-lutely. I am super tired so I kind of only skimmed the rest of your comment, but 100%. Symptom not the actual disease causing organism. In fact in a later, longer conversation I might go into why the “deep state” or “Zio-infested deep-state” actually prefers Trump. Fake assassination attempt notwithstanding. Or rather, with direct standing to the point. That was a big bandage considering there is ZERO scarring now, amirite?

Just to give you a hint at my sense of humor. I literally cackle like Killary every time I watch video of WTC-7 falling at freefall speed into its own footprint while having libz or MAGA types womansplaining to me that it was because of fire. Same goes for the other 2-3 buildings in the complex, but immaterial to my point. The USA is ZOG infested. Trump is both a symptom and the J** oligarch chosen figurehead/wrecker.

The internet is not made with control in mind. All this surveillance will lead people to TOR*, DNS servers from Vietnam, private irc , darknet(s), p2p networks.
It is a very good measure to drive creators in bilibili and elsewhere decentralizing the internet. The more heavy handed they go on this the faster western controlled mediums will shut down, remember how Rumble flourished during c-19.
Do you know that you can anonymously buy a VPN/VPS service in Hong Kong with crypto?
Do you know that you can play your video games in windows virtual machines hosted on Linux ? it takes less that 30′ to setup one with gpu passthrough and everything!
Do you know that there are mail providers that do not require any of your personal data?
Do you know that you can use TOR to create an account in one of the fediverse instances ( tweeter/X alternative) and post all the shit you like ?
Do you know that you can replace all western hardware scrap with Chinese made? even if China spies on you what they gonna do, send EU police to arrest you?
The premise of such spying policies is that you need to use THEIR media while this is not true.

*Tor is a US army project (i think navy) but it is open source, the only way someone can find you is through social engineering (or compromised nodes) so when on TOR never post age/sex/location or other personal info that can identify you.
