Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

U.S. Requires Social Strip-Search On Entry

During the 1990s and up to the year 2001 I had visited the United States more than a dozen times. I had touched down and traveled through 22 of its 50 states. About half of that traveling was part of my job, the other half was vacationing and visiting friends.

After the 9/11 attacks the U.S. shut down. Coming in by air plane required to take part in some ridiculous security theater. The previously already annoying waiting in line and questioning by custom and immigration officials got worse. Travelers were no longer welcome. I canceled my already planned future visits.

It  now gets worse:

U.S. plans to ask visitors to disclose 5 years of social media history (archived) – WaPo

The United States could begin requiring visitors from countries on the visa waiver program to provide up to five years of their social media history, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection proposal posted to the Federal Register to be officially published Wednesday.

There are dozens of countries on the visa waiver program list, including many European nations, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Qatar, Israel and Chile.

The proposal suggests adding social media as a “mandatory data element” for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) application.

Applicants would also have to provide additional information “when feasible,” according to the proposal. The list includes telephone numbers used in the last five years, email addresses used in the last 10 years, IP addresses and metadata from electronically submitted photos, and biometrics, including facial, fingerprint, DNA and iris data.

It would also require applicants to provide information about their family members, including names, telephone numbers, dates of birth, places of birth and residences.

A visitor will also have to use a U.S. government supplied app and pay some US$ 40 for the privilege. European visitors will have to  break their countries data protection laws to provide family member data.

The most egregious request though is for social media data. The proposal says:

3. Mandatory Social Media:

In order to comply with the January 2025 Executive Order 14161 (Protecting the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats), CBP is adding social media as a mandatory data element for an ESTA application. The data element will require ESTA applicants to provide their social media from the last 5 years.

U.S. Custom and Border Protection is already collecting social media data from H-1b visa applicants:

As of December 15, the Department will expand the requirement that an online presence review be conducted for all H-1B applicants and their dependents, in addition to the students and exchange visitors already subject to this review. To facilitate this vetting, all applicants for H-1B and their dependents (H-4), F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas are instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public.”

It is likely that the same requirement will be introduced for ESTA applicants.

CBP has yet to introduce a mandatory public strip-search on entry. One wonders why they are holding back on that.

To travel to China is now much easier than to travel to the ‘leader of the free world’. There are no visa requirements in China for up to  30 day visits from my country. No questions are asked. There are no checks on social media. There are no immigration lines, just a 10 second glance at one’s passport. Besides that crime is low in China and prices are decent.

Is the U.S. unaware of how much damage it does to its global image by demanding a ridiculous amount of private data from any visitor to it? Or doesn’t it care?

I for one don’t plan to visit the U.S. ever again.

Comments

This has been coming and visible on the horizon a very long time. Once they had the raw processing power to take a stab at all that data there was no way they could resist.

Just two or three days ago I saw that this is being rolled out imminently in Croatia with eleven more Euro countries to follow suit in 2027. No idea how good that info was. But no surprise. Expect this will be the norm everywhere in the West.

Data processing will be by Palantir and Israel.

Trump is bluffing here. Who keeps a record of his activity pn social media? Since the beginnings of the Internet, politicians have attempted to censure it. The mayor of my town tried it in rhe 1990’s. Good luck Donald!

Complications for travelers gts worse every year.  I wonder where those absurdities are leading us to.  Anyway that could be all that we need here in Canada to take our business to Asia and anywhere out of the US, and possibly  Europe.

Indeed. Like b I never want to visit the US again, though I went many times and Americans are far better hosts than guests and the scenery is indeed magnificent, especially in the West. Getting there, getting in and getting out again is just way too onerous and mind melding.
Being neither a user of social media nor an owner of a smartphone I can see me being frog-marched off to the dungeons by storm troopers for ‘enhanced questioning’, simply for being so far outside expected norms.

This was inevitable. The Blob wants open borders everywhere. The people generally don’t, but they don’t count, apparently. The Blob wants Trump not to count either, and is fighting a scorched earth battle to get those borders wide open. Now, Trump is fighting back by restricting all immigration. We’ll see if the Blob backs down.

@87 persiflo

Other westernised countries synch/follow suit (many are or are doing so) , the US (or globalists or whoever) centrally manage the information collected due to complicities, citizenry gets formatted to this ‘new normal’ .

i.e. US holds say over aligned nations, aligned nations hold say over citizenry. Aligned nations agree because of corruption, perks, and security/control offered from/over own population.

To stay active on the world stage means creating new forms of governance that outrun dissent or opposition.

Nationality is a difference that can be used to create a synthetic normalisation.

In response to malenkov@18,

Good news for all the semen smugglers out there. I had a good chuckle at the obvious error, and the additional implication of having to share smuggled semen with customs to pacify them. 😀

But, on a more serious note, and as someone already pre-empted earlier, motivated by the conflict in Ukraine, Russia has implemented a review system of social media for select individuals on crossing the border, and has denied entry to Ukrainians whose devices contain Russophobic content. The logic behind this step is obvious, as individuals who demonstratively support the Ukrainian regime pose an increased risk of being recruited to conduct disruptive activity within the country. That said, I would expect that individuals groomed for subversive activities would be more likely to not maintain such public social profiles, or even cultivate faux-patriotic ones, and that the people that have been denied entry have been harmless — stupid, perhaps caught up in the flow of the societal trends of their environment, spiteful or easily manipulated, but not actually dangerous.

What’s more, following the logic of what an actual Ukrainian terrorist’s social profile might look like, the serious suspects would be anyone who hasn’t at some point paraded the yellow-blue flag or carelessly praised Bandera, and forgotten to sanitize their device. Thus, the system appears to me as one most likely to create an abundance of false positives, enact petty retribution, establish norms of ideological purity or create conditions where a person needs to prove a negative, rather than actually protect anyone. A chill-pill for those Russians who aren’t planning to go or return from abroad, that’s more readily visible than the hidden social profiling that no doubt is being performed professionally by special services.

My view is, naturally, colored by me being an ethnic Russian living abroad, and how this policy might in the end have an impact on me, and so it’s an admittedly selfish one. Nothing is more permanent than temporary measures, and everyone predicts that diversionary acts on Russian soil committed by Ukrainian nationalists are likely to continue well past the active phase of the ongoing conflict, and so it’s not far fetched to assume that social profile controls, and a standard of what constitutes an ideal social profile, become persistent norms. Finally, there’s never a guarantee of even a reasonably motivated, implemented and executed policy morphing into asset for individuals who simply get off on abusing others, using the limited power at their disposal, and so I hope social media checks will follow the well-known dictum: The harshness of Russian laws is compensated by the non-observance thereof.

Posted by SB@1851:  No doubt that some “interests” have purchased farmlands to milk the system.  However, my take is that heritage farmers…the real ones…are the massive majority of those who are protesting that 20% clipping for the overburdened tax system haunting the 99% of Brits.  When a farm family works land which has been in their gene pool for generations; it becomes difficult to target them as self-serving profiteers.

This move by the Starmer regime and the entire City of London based establishment is all about that One Percent reenacting the Enclosure Acts which drove the commons off their mutually governed farmlands.  The entire British establishment emblemates Perfidious Albion.  In essence they are multigenerational predatorial parasites.  They should all be relocated to places like the Falkland Islands and St. Helena…where they can stew in their own juices.  Such an outcome strikes me as being a more gentle  removal than the guillotine.

Remind me that next year the US will be co-hosting the World Cup and then two years after that event it hosts the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

How many nations will be willing to send teams to those events, given the considerable logistics involved in organising athletes’ schedules around their particular events, the drug testing they must undergo, their training and pep talks, and their transport?

And on top of that, if the US does invade Venezuela, the fallout in the form of sports boycotts and other possible protest actions could be immense.

It’s not a bit funny to me, because even travel to destinations which have nothing to do with the United States often involves transit through a US airport. Canadians do not need an ESTA document – yet – but with the kind of reform school the USA is turning into, I would not be a bit surprised to see that adjustment. Just touching down in the USA, never leaving the airport before catching a connecting flight might soon require this sort of intrusive data-mining, and we are all well aware of the US government’s hunger for information – nothing acquired is ever really gone.
I used to enjoy visiting the USA; the people are generally kind and friendly, and it is mostly still a very beautiful country. But this absurd paranoia is killing it. I would avoid transit through the USA altogether, even the briefest of stops, but many international air routes currently require a transit stop, and this is unlikely to change until public pressure warrants it. And most people still buy that “If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear” nonsense. All about ‘keeping you safe’, don’t you know.

Zio vetting mandatory.  Honestly, I think this is the real reason why the Trump administration is so keen on removing the current Euro leadership.  They’re all reliable Zios and maybe they push the Ukraine war too aggressively to feather their nests, but they have not yet been able to crush the overwhelming anti Zionism of the European street.  In the US, Trump is using the immigration boogie man to do this.  ICE isn’t just deporting people, they also serve as a political police searching social media for opposition to Zionism and prioritizing those people for deportation.  Currently, most wage slaves in the US are scared to death to reveal their feelings re: genocide publicly.  Zio Trump wants that for Europe and he thinks Le Pen, AfD etc would be more likely to give it to him in exchange for power.  And he’s probably not wrong in that assumption.

Chinese former sports minister Gou Zhongwen was convicted for bribery and abuse of power and will be executed soon. If the same would apply in Europe, obercommissioner Ursula Von der Leyen would be convicted and executed for bribery and embezzlement of millions of Covid funds. In the Khazhar colony, Benjamin Mileikowsky would have been convicted and executed years ago already. Former French president Sarkozy was convicted to a paltry 3 weeks of jail time. According to Western standards a very brutal conviction. In China however he too would be executed. China’s judicial system has much to admire.

It does sound like a setup for a “gay adult video” scene.

Nah you had it right in the first place. The US will be enforcing entry to those people who have spoken badly about a “chosen” topic that starts with “J”, “I” or “Z”. Pretty much anything else is probably allowable.

Posted by: LoveDonbass | Dec 10 2025 22:26 utc | 166

@142 snake

I was not legally able to leave Schengen for a decade, no fault of my own. EU is slowly going same direction, digital biometrics at entry, requirement to register and seek permission with EU from countries that were previously visa free.

Go back a century or so, and a German novelist seafarer was writing about how a sailors card (ID) seemed to have become the center of the universe , being asked everywhere, whereas previously ID was rarely asked for travellers.

Even previously the US seemed paranoid, Tijuana was like a return to normal. Cannot imagine how it is now…well I am able to but avoid doing so.

Tbh I am sort of bemused by the level of absurdity, and disappointed that so many are caught up in / ignorant of the loss of freedom…but I guess many never experienced how things were previously or like everything verified ?

Laughing…in Spain in early 90s a Dutch friend was saying how he had USians asking him how the security situation was there, before visiting…not surprised USians are more paranoid now though…sort of self fulfilling.

yes.  When it was happening, Love Donbass was proclaiming it to be genuine grassroots, and claiming it would last for years, be the downfall of America, brought by the civil war it caused. (yes, he kept saying No Kings would cause civil war)
When a Minnesota state rep was shot that day, he came back here and even more boldly began to declare how we would all be so wrong for mocking him, and he would be proven right about the “No Kings” civil war, those of us denying his prognostications and proclamations were, quote, “Living in Only Fans land”.

Well, I’m disinclined to go and look up what LD said then (assuming it’s even possible — the search functionality at this new site is at least as bad as that at the old one), and if anything LD can do so himself.

Real civil war in the USA is possible only once there is a complete collapse of central authority, and at that point it would be: Those who have the most guns, win.  I wouldn’t last very long.

Protests like the “No Kings” weekend aren’t entirely without usefulness; they allow the participants to feel a bit less alone.  But they accomplish nothing.  Only armed resistance can be successful against armed authority, unless that authority has some remnant of conscience — and I’d be a fool to assume that there’s much in the way of conscience among US authorities.  And even in the best of circumstances, armed resistance usually fails.

Scrubbing the internet… it’s real.
Part of wanting your social media and digital files is to find and purge what has been saved over the years.
“The internet is forever”…. But no longer true. Everything that provides links between past government criminality and current government criminality is being scrubbed.
And they are locking down and locking out anyone who wants to do research and share non-sanitised material.

There are many ways full blown civil war in America could break out, amd in some scenarios, it could last decades.
Drug cartels could become the real law in the southwest.
central bank collapse could lead to rioting and paramilitary unwilling to disarm.
Stayes could refuse to enforce federal policy, and federal government arrests state heads.

overall, though, rage is fueled via internet, but to even have a chance, insurgents would have to completely cut off from internet, thus cutting off their rage, amd willingness to die, so overall, I see it as highly unlikely..

unless the internet gets destroyed by an AI run virus, or 256 bit encryption is broken.  Then it would be anarchy and war.

Posted by M @2221:  As a War Baby, a ’44 model, I have some insights into the Boomers, so called.  From my experience, there are two fairly distinct halves to that demographic.  First half born between ’46 and ’53 have experienced elders who dated back to the “Greatest Generation”, better described as the Depression survivors.  At least most of the rural kids from that grouping are reasonably well grounded and possess some levels of common sense.

One can gauge the break in the grouping born between ’54 and ’63…prior to JFK being taken down by the Agency on behalf of “interested” parties, primarily the shareholders in the WarDefense Industry and the barons of Big Oil.  LBJ, Talmudist on his mother’s side, was deeply involved in that tragedy.  His first major act of treason was the Tonkin Gulf false flag in the Summer of ’64.  Between being raised on the Boobtoob and most of them stuck in the suburbs where common sense no longer exists and coming to adulthood in the ’80’s; they got sucked into worshiping the Big Brass Ring…materialist consumers for the most part and programmed for ignorance via the Toob and the edjumacasional system.

Could say much more about this phenomenon, but averse to over-long dissertations.  We are looking at two disparate demographics here…in general terms, thus not inclusive of all individuals.  Majority of the second half grouping are very messed up in their value systems.  First half, not so much ensorcelled.

UKRAINE ATTCKS INDIAN SHIP
Ukrainian naval drones attacked another oil tanker in the Black Sea.
The tanker “Dashan” sails under the flag of Comoros and is affiliated with Caishan Ship Management, an Indian company associated with Gatik Ship Management.
§|~  New strike on a tanker in the Black Sea
About two hours ago, a new civilian vessel was attacked by Ukrainian unmanned boats.
Three unmanned boats hit the tanker “Dashan” under the flag of Gambia.
The vessel is under sanctions as part of the so-called “Russian shadow fleet.”
A group of unmanned boats set out from the Odessa region last night and headed towards the eastern part of the Black Sea, bypassing the Crimean Peninsula.
The extent of the damage is still unclear. But there is one very characteristic detail: during the attack on the tanker, a British reconnaissance aircraft RC-135W was operating in the airspace over the western Black Sea.
Immediately after the attack, the aircraft headed to the area where the tanker is located. It is now patrolling parallel to Sudak on the southern coast of Crimea.
This is the fourth civilian vessel attacked by the enemy in the last two weeks. This incident shows that Ukrainian forces, supported by the West, do not intend to stop their attacks on shipping.

My point about No Kings, when it was happening, was that it was a sign of social dysfunction and that it was emblematic of what Trump faced domestically in the late Empire.

A happy and content, and cohesive American people don’t have “No Kings”. They don’t have BLM, they don’t have J6, or whatever the next FBI-sponsored domestic event to clamp down on activists and justify further surveillance measures. You don’t see this stuff in China or Russia, where regime change is always being attempted by the UK and the US.

At the time, UW and Gruff were going on about Dembots or Soros or something. At the time, IMO, I felt they were missing the broader historical point rather than another episode in the Fox MAGA TV show.

Anyways, my take was correct that America continues to disintegrate internally, which is great news for the Russian, Chinese, Iranian, Palestinian, and Venezuelan people.

Sic semper tyrannis.

Did you mean to leave the breadcrumbs that Zionist AI told you all about China?

Posted by: LoveDonbass | Dec 10 2025 23:26 utc | 195

Maybe it’s just me but I find it perfectly reasonable that the US requires loyalty to their imperialism project on entrants. It worked so well on naturally selecting the most sycophantic leaders and officials in EU institutions for example, ensuring no one without a pro-Atlanticism view could get a job there otherwise. Rolling it out on the wider population in conjunction with AI tools like from Palantir is the next logical step.

I find it more strange that China is going the opposite direction. Giving visa free access to NATO and Five-Eyes countries when they’re hybrid warfaring you left and right does not seem logical. Thoughts?

Is the U.S. unaware of how much damage it does to its global image by demanding a ridiculous amount of private data from any visitor to it? Or doesn’t it care?
Posted by b on December 10, 2025 at 15:49 UTC

Of course “they” are aware, and of course “they” do not care. Why do you? Why alert “them” to this self-defeating stupidity?

It’s another of hundreds of current example where the US shows itself for what it is. These changes being developed and implemented (same as Tariffs) should be cheered on as the US shooting itself, and all her citizens, in the foot. The more this happens the better for everyone else.

Please do not tell the US when they doing something wrong. Let them “freely” carry on to destroy their nation from the inside out until it collapses in mayhem and the Government political legal systems are taken out and the many Constitutions are rewritten anew.
