Why? I find it mildly amusing that two presidents would have sex together, but I fail to discover the scandal. That said, I’m not too fond of sex scandals in general. “Uuuuhh the president has sex!” – unlike everyone else on the planet, or what? It is also said that his act has been quite good. Now perhaps that is the scandal right there. Trump like a pornstar performing on Clinton in front of the assembled cabal, lol … I predict that if the video comes out it will enhance his popularity.

the banks are the real victims. you just gotta love the complaining about lawyer paydays, esp when one party in the suit has bottomless pockets and the other is some kid paid minimum wage to “massage” Larry Summers.

and just how prominently have lawyer paydays featured throughout billionaire supergenius Trump’s career? “My superpower is using bankruptcy law to fuck over everyone else.” b/c he’s such an expert in law, he just pays himself the lawyer’s fees and never has to say to himself, “You’re fired.”

Naked Capitalism seems to think Trump’s U-turn is a smokescreen, preceding a whitewash:
Coffee Break: TACO MIGA Breaks With MAGA Over the Epstein Files

The Clayton appointment is so unreal.
Geoffrey Berman was pressured to step down by the first Trump admin roughly a year after prosecuting Epstein in 2019 (as I recall it was around the time when Berman was targeting Steve Bannon). Bill Barr tried to have Clayton replace him in 2020, but was unsuccessful.
Clayton spent the time waiting to be ushered into that position by Trump earlier this year at Epstein associate Leon Black’s Apollo Global in a board position they seemingly made JUST FOR HIM.
In other words, Clayton is the guy the 1st Trump administration and Bill Barr specifically wanted in to replace the people who had Epstein (and later Maxwell) arrested and when they couldn’t do it, a super rich Epstein associate gave him tons of money and now he has been installed in that position to “investigate” Epstein.
How stupid do they think people are?

where did π come from Posted by: General Factotum | Nov 17 2025 9:39 utc | 155 — Riemann’s Zeta function.

Full marks to too scents! Also, from a ‘physics’ perspective, the notion of π could arise from spherical symmetry (radiation in all directions equally) and perhaps mathematically (in this case) because Stefan transformed into polar co-ordinates to make the integral across all space easier (I think?) when deriving his constant. Also, it is evident that Stefan used Planck’s discovery of quantized energy (h in the constant) and this is related to the Gamma Function.

So, the obvious question now is whether Riemann’s Zeta Function and the Gamma Function are related…

Hey, Peter – I think you’re pulling my chain, but I’ll bite….

It reminds me of a funny experience (funny for me at least) I had a long time ago. I used the term “square the circle” in a conversation and this young rooster pipes up “I know how to do that!” So he was given the floor to explain. “It’s just π r times the radius squared – I had to do that ordering concrete for the post-holes. What’s the problem?” I asked whether he’d had much concrete left over when the holes were filled. He seemed a bit puzzled how anyone could know that little detail…

Posted by: General Factotum | Nov 17 2025 21:40 utc | 219

Google AI told me that 🙂 Looks like bullshit to me. To me pi has been the circumference.  Radius squared the area, Radius squared by length equals volume.  Ah fuck, that’s just radius two x 3.14 or whatever it is. , Diameter times pi or radius 2 times pi.  I’ve gotta laugh at that ornot.

For some reason it rattled me a bit. The insanity that now prevails in the west and the vast majority of peasants who think this insanity preceding collapse is quite normal.

In the US, Epstein is a red herring to take eyes and media away from the American financial problems. Venezuela will likely be used to the same purpose. The Americans trying to create a crypto scam to replace the petro-dollar.
B’s current piece on the aircraft scam. Zely and his gang are desperate for those Russian billions but so too are some of the Europeans. Those frozen assets will be stolen by the Europeans before this is over.
The was an article the other day, I think in the Telegraph, some group in UK are trying to obtain documents on excess deaths. The documents do exist but it appears highly classified. Excess deaths due to the covid injection scam ran at around 17% throughout five-eyes. I haven’t looked into it yet to see if death rates have dropped back to pre injection norms or if there is continuing excess deaths. A small number of medical researchers at different places and time have found altered DNA,so now west is GMO humans.

Pre 2019, the west had been marching towards insanity for a decade, but the outbreak of the pentagon virus around the American consulate in Wuhan is I think the point at which the west tipped into total insanity.

Are you delirious Peter?
“What is r”????

I see that you have remembered it !

It upset the kings so much that was not 3!

They tried to make it three and their stone circles turned into a egg shaped ovals! With the incorrect radius used to measure out a circle!

Pi is the infinity that makes a circle a true circle –  one that can never be exactly calculated!

It upset the Masters and Owners of antiquity that such a thing existed – that nature had such ‘grotesque’ proportions!

It surprised even the most advanced theoretical physicists and still does! Because any exact such numbers would make our universe incapable of existing. The forces would not balance. The atoms would fly apart into nothing.

As for your daughter – she wouldn’t have been the first to travel to Thailand or Asia generally or even other continents alone.

The dangers to women have always been soldiers and sailors, or local powerful family sons, not ordinary folk. It doesn’t matter if you have a boyfriend or others with you when terror and violence is unleashed by such villains.

I have known many European girls who have travelled and stayed in such countries made friends, learnt the languages and foods and been welcomed and looked after.

Actually I have even been acquainted with girls who willingly went to work in hotels to ‘earn’ quick monies to afford their plane tickets home for the rainy season or to be able to return and live in paradise for half a year!

Mostly with boyfriends and husbands and even kids!

Being just normal travellers on a budget most of the time.

It’s a strange world only for westerners raised to believe the world is not as safe as home! Give me a break and look up the rapes and bearings and murders in the ‘civilised’ world of you inhabit. There have been enough documented cases from Oz too.

The Euler identity, for instance, would read exp(iπ)=1 instead of -1.
Posted by: persiflo | Nov 17 2025 17:24 utc | 197

**********
That’s a shame, because I had grown to like the -1 equality. It seemed a bit more far-fetched and was useful for confusing (other!) people. But I suppose exp(iπ)=1 is more useful, because we can now easily prove that iπ = 0, and conclude both i and π are nothing-burghers. Also, I like getting rid of that pesky 1/2. With no effort at all I can now double the KE, and also EM energy stored in capacitors and inductors. That gives me a great marketing edge!

Volume of a cylinder or simple area of circle was something I have done often or work. Working for mate there was other calculations required at times, so for them I started using the internet. Find the right calculator, enter the data I had and click calculate. Magic.

hen I was flying, I needed a maths equation for something so had to get a maths book from the library and study the equation. Learnt it, used that equation to work out what I wanted to work out and all was good. But then not long after, perhaps a month or two, I needed that equation again but could not remember it.
Volume of a cylinder was easy enough, be it the calculator on my phone or chalk on the concrete floor or a bit of steel plate, but most other things I would go straight to the internet calculators. Even trig and that sort of stuff is beyond me and needed a fair bit when building stuff.

Thailand. My daughter nearly got me in a fight on the streets of Bangkok one day. She accidently nearly poked a bloke in the eye with a skewer. He was angry and instead of apologizing she started arguing. So I shove her back behind me and both trying to shut her down and quieten the other bloke down. For a bit, I thought I was going to get a few bangs and bruises.

Then in an airport – I go out for a smoke and soon as I come back in the door I see a couple of sex workers there with her. I had watched them early and wondered what they were about. I got over there quick and asked them what they were about.m They said something about doing a questionnaire as part of their uni course. I told them to eff off.
As I had watched them earlier, the moment I saw them with my daughter I knew what they were about. Daughter thought they were genuine.

My intention was never to portray China as an aggressor. It was to bring to attention what looks to me at least like a disconnect between the government (who issues warnings to Japan, advising them not to play with fire) and a number of netizens (who egg on Takaichi and want Japan to play with fire as a pretext for some revenge mission). Or at least see if I was(n’t) the only one here to see it that way.
I would’ve asked about Operation Gladio and whether the US conducted anything similar in Japan after WWII (they did end up purging leftist parties during the onset of the Cold War, if that’s anything close enough to it), but decided against it if the next person is going to dismiss it so easily. Jus’ sayin’.

You got me a bit cranked with that one.  For the last 24 hours or so, as I put in an earlier comment, I was feeling a bit rattled after listing to that brit professor. That coupled with what is occurring now in the western world.

As for traveling, be it a safe country or a dangerous country, much depends on the naivity or otherwise of the traveler.
Through my life, The world I had wanted for my children, grandchildren and their children is now gone. That short window between the end of the cold war and the start of the US war on Russia and China has closed.

The woke stuff. A family has no meaning. Most have been drawn into it. With the collapse of society comes economic collapse. That is now occurring. The Americans and their crypto scam, the Europeans trying to raid the Russian assets to keep them afloat a little longer.

Back around 2014, I could see a storm building up, but for a long time hoped for the best, that the storm would fizzle out or something. We are now very close to the eye of the storm. The eye of the storm, economic collapse, will be like an asylum for the insane. The vast majority in the west, both the so called elite and the peasants, are now completely divorced from any sense of reality.

Not those two. I had watched them for some time. The way they were dressed, complete oddballs but carrying a clipboard. They were walking about looking at everyone but not stopping anyone to talk. One was quite tall for an Asian woman. On top of that, she wore platform soles. She did have stuff on underneath to cover the bits but otherwise wore a sheer pink outfit. The other was dressed in a suit. A butch type, muscular build.

Plenty of Asian women, normal women we had talked to. These two were quite different.

Gin was also a derogatory term for aboriginal women. In common usage when I travelled the north. The term Gin Jockey was also a term used then. I married into a Lao family but have done some work in Thailand and have friends there. The economic situation isn’t terribly good — middle-class household debt is a serious problem and most of the people are, if not outright poor, then certainly of extremely modest means. It doesn’t compare favorably to places like Taiwan or SK — but much better than, say, Cambodia or the Philippines.

“…The announcement comes less than one week after 7 years of correspondence between Summers and the disgraced financier Jeffrey E Epstein were released by the Republicans and the House Oversight Committee. The documents show Summers and Epstein continued to exchange messages until July 5, 2018 – just one day after Epstein was arrested on new sex-trafficking charges…”

A local Trinidad and Tobago news outlet reported on Sunday that the country’s army had not been informed about military exercises the United States expects to conduct only a few miles off the coast of Venezuela in Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source said that as of Saturday morning, senior officers had received no information and first heard about the drill from the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Sean Sobers, who announced the operation during a media briefing on Friday.

So basically you have the local population and soldiers serving as a meat buffer for US imperial wars with local collaborators locally issuing the orders. In Trinidad & Tobago that is Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in Ukraine that is Zelensky and in Europe that is Ursula Von der Leyen.

On the subject of Stablecoins and the ability of the U.S. Government to borrow.

Stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency designed to maintain a stable value by pegging to fiat currencies, commodities, or financial instruments, aiming to offer a less volatile alternative to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

That quote comes from a very useful read on the subject by Investopedia.  It’s  a short read, and tells you what  stablecoins are, and the function they perform in the marketplace. You should probably know at least this much about  Stablecoins.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is enthusiastic about one type of  Stablecoin: the type  which are backed by U.S. Treasury bills. He likes these kind of Stablecoins  because it _could_ keep demand for  U.S. Federal  Debt issues going during the general trend of “de-dollarization”.

Here’s a key excerpt from Mr. Bessent’s remarks to  the Treasury Market Conference (the major buyers and dealers of U.S. Federal  Gov’t debt instruments)  on Nov 12, 2025:

… we are closely monitoring growth in money market funds and the stablecoin market, which are both large investors in Treasury bills. Money market funds are now valued at about $7.5 trillion, having grown by nearly $1 trillion in the last year alone. The stablecoin market, meanwhile, is valued around $300 billion and could grow tenfold by the end of the decade thanks to the innovation made possible by the GENIUS Act. As money market funds and stablecoins grow, so too will the demand for Treasury bills.

Much has been made of these remarks. Mr. Bessent is casting about, trying (can we  say “eagerly”?) to find new markets for U.S. debt as debt  issuance soars, and buyers for that debt … don’t soar as much.

But if you read Bessent’s  speech, you get a _very_ different impression of the state of play regarding the issuance and sales of U.S. government debt than what  you get in the popular press, and certainly from the alt-media.

Here’s another view,  maybe a bit more balanced, on the U.S. debt situation. It shows  who owns U.S. debt, and how the  ownership of US debt  has changed  over time.

The core problem for  the U.S. is that we spend way more than we  take  in (taxes), and we have to place an awful lot of  debt  each year, and pay the interest on that  debt.

Scott Bessent (U.S. Treasury Secretary),  in the speech linked  above, said:

As Treasury Secretary, my job is to be the nation’s top bond salesman. And Treasury yields are a strong barometer for measuring success in this endeavor.

OK, let’s take a look  at those yields (Here’s a chart that shows 10-year Treasury note interest rates. The 10-year note is often used as indicator of general U.S. Treasury interest rate. Note that rates have been hovering around 4% for  the past 3 years. 4% is a low rate, historically, but it’s high if you consider  how much debt we have now .vs. in the past. The U.S. debt increased by $1 Trillion this past year, and now stands at  about $38 Trillion. Look at this chart to  see how fast the debt  has risen lately.

Scott Bessent _has_ to find new markets for Treasuries, or the interest rates will have to rise in order to induce people  to lend us money. Rising interest rates are generally bad for the U.S. economy.  (see the closing remarks  on the U.S. debt  situation link  I provided above).

I hope that  helps explain why the  USG is in favor of Stablecoins.

@Tom Pfotzer #276
I posted a while ago how Doomberg has speculated that Trump/Bessent are trying to gin up the crypto market, so that the stablecoin float grows.
And that in turn, once the stablecoin float has peaked, that laws would be passed creating a new form of Treasuries that the stablecoin companies must use instead of regular Treasuries – specifically that these new types are lower interest.

Singapore investor Sean Foo did a great short video yesterday on the Stablecoin paradox.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HOBIOHj8VH4

This has all been tried before and will fail again.

Tying treasuries to Stablecoin is rebranding. Bessent, who has probably not purchased his own groceries in decades, think that people in Nigeria will start transacting in USD Stablecoins.

IMO, the “customers” for this are the Arab vassal monarchies, who have so much “on paper” money, they don’t know where to place it.

We’re at the euphemisms for days phase of the collapse.

As I try to remind people, money isn’t “real”. It is an abstraction. It is a representation. Treasuries could be renamed to Trump Bucks but that wouldn’t change the state of US finance or, more importantly IMO, production.

One either makes steel or they don’t. They either produce high tech or they don’t. Renaming the debt instrument changes nothing tangible.

But, they are going to try. They are out of options, and ideas.

regarding the part of your post – and thanks for your post tom – the part that focuses on who owns the debt, it mentions the federal reserve owns 1/4 of it…. how do you describe the make up of the federal reserve? is that a public utility, or a private bank? if it is private, who exactly is it and who ”owns” it?  thanks…

Why would anyone buy a stable coin tied to the US buck and watch someone else collect the interest on it. I can see it for quick purchases but not an investment.

Posted by: arby | Nov 18 2025 16:41 utc | 283

@ c1ue | Nov 18 2025 15:46 utc: didn’t see your post, tks  for  summary. If you get time, can you provide a link/quote/something about the part where the special stablecoin debt instruments would be at a lower interest rate? love to see how they phrase that bit.

@James:  no,  it doesn’t look sustainable at all, and most of the world knows it. The sheer volume of debt issuance  by U.S. makes it harder every year to sell  (“place”) all that debt.

One interesting tidbit that I  came across yesterday was a remark to the  effect that the domestic and some of the  foreign (cayman islands in partic) holders of that debt tend _not_ to hold it to maturity, but are highly likely to unload it if conditions turn, such as a significant uptick in inflation (means get less-valuable dollars back at  end of bond’s term).

That means Treasury might be facing rapidly-changing circumstances: an event happens, whole lotta people dump their Treasuries at same time, now Treasury has to sell (every year, $1 Trillion worth, gotta happen) into the teeth of a hostile market that has to be bribed big-time via high interest rate to buy all that new paper.

@LD: Sean  Foo is great, but take  him with a little salt. He talks his book, and he’s Sigapore – China booster-man. Balance.

About the  feasibility of Stablecoins with USG debt-instrument backing: it actually makes a lot of sense to me at the moment. A whole lot of the world uses USD as currency in their own country, to the degree they’re permitted to by  local  gov’t. Most of the world will have access to electronic money (already do via credit-  and debit-cards) and crypto-cash is a variant on that theme).  USD still has a lot of brand appeal (the dollar, not nec the country behind it). Bessent isn’t too far off-base  here: it  is  indeed a growth-market for US debt.

How big a growth market? let’s say $3Trillion. The U.S. issues $1T in debt instruments annually. That’s 3 years’ worth of U.S. debt. What then? Where’s the next big growth market for U.S. debt?

Good question.

@too scents | Nov 18 2025 17:37 utc: Oops. Tks catch that.  I conflated $1T annual  deficit (which would be _new_ debt, with the total  debt issues, a good bit of which is to roll over existing debt. Should have said “$1T in _new_ debt”.

And in fact, it’s $1.8T deficit, not $1T this year. Furthermore,  the  USG has to refinance almost $10T in debt  that’s maturing this year,  so it needs to sell (mostly re-sell) somewhere around $11T in securities this  year alone.

I’m having trouble  finding a table or  chart that  shows USG debt issuance to date, with (approx) interest rate.  If you can help me find that, I say thanks. I would  like  to  see some actual-sales corroboration of that “must refi $10T”  assertion.   I see  that in many articles, can’t find a reliable  source for  the assertion.
