Ukrainian Media About Gaps In The Frontline And Other Failures

The Ukrainian news-outlet Ukrainska Pravda has a new report about the state of the Ukrainian forces at the frontline. The Russian forces are winning the war bit by bit while the Ukrainian army is in constant retreat. The report is discussing several issues which prevent the Ukrainians from holding the line.

While most of UP’s pieces are published in Russian/Ukrainian and English this one has yet to receive a translation. Below   summaries and excerpts of it (edited machine translation):

The holes between the infantry positions are getting bigger and bigger.
What prevents the Ukrainian army from deterring the Russians
Ukrainska Pravda, Oct 6 2025

The most urgent need directly on the front line remains infantry. At the current stage of the war, when the work of heavy equipment is maximally complicated, the role of soldiers in the trenches increases significantly. When they are not enough, it is not easy to organize a defense.

Due to the lack of people, many units cannot hold their positions, fully repel Russian attacks, adequately rest and conduct the necessary rotation. As a result, field commanders are forced to choose priority areas, leaving other sectors less protected.

In consequence there is no longer a real frontline. The lack of infantry leads to gaps through which Russian forces can slip into the rear of the Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian mortar troops and drone pilots who are nominally stationed five kilometer behind the frontline suddenly find themselves in direct contact with enemy troops:

A consequence of the problem described above is that infantry positions are increasingly literally deserted. Therefore, the distance between neighboring positions can be 200-300 –, 500-700 –meters, and sometimes even a kilometer.

The formation of a huge number of holes between Ukrainian infantry positions and the penetration of these holes by the Russians deep into our defenses has formed another trend of the current stage of the war – the lack of a stable line of engagement.

Due to the lack of fighters on the first line, drone and mortar operators, who stand 3-5 kilometers from the front edge, are forced to become infantry.

In the worst cases, which UP is also aware of, the Russians even reach artillery positions. These are 10-15 kilometers from the contact line.

Over the last six month the Ukrainian army has changed its structure. Previously various brigades were attached to temporary operational commands (TUS,Tgrs) with each responsible for large parts of the frontline. The new model is based on a corp structure with several brigades assigned to a corp to serve under one permanent command. While the restructuring is officially finished most troops have yet to find their new home:

The key advantage of the transition of the Defense Forces to the corps system was called by supporters of the reform the emergence of stable management bodies. But this is exactly what has not happened so far, because there are still temporary TUS, Tgrs, etc. on the ground in one form or another.

Moreover, there are also questions about the transition to the implementation of tasks by corps exclusively in the designated areas of responsibility. In many sectors of the front, a full-fledged transition did not take place, while the General Staff already has plans to create even new structures, such as assault troops and troops of unmanned air defense systems as part of the air force.

In the context of a general shortage of personnel with the incomplete transition to the corps system, finding resources for new military formations will be quite problematic.

Despite having the just introduced a corp structure the newly created assault battalions were put under direct command of the Ukrainian commander-in-chief,  General Syrski.  Events in Ukraine recently took a look at those:

Undeterred by the total collapse of the Kursk operation in the spring of 2025,  Syrsky remains fixated on the need for new offensives.

Now, the head of the army has created his own personal guard, totally willing to implement all his orders – the assault forces. The western-funded nationalist press has attacked Syrsky’s new project as ‘catastrophic’, claiming that the units involved have taken massive losses in the urge to demonstrate their loyalty to the commander-in-chief.

For whatever reason, these highly critical articles on the assault forces from the likes of BBC Ukraine and texty.org haven’t been translated to English.

Today we’ll take a look at what exactly these new assault forces are. It turns out that they are largely composed of units commanded by the fascist ‘Right Sector’. Syrsky chose these units because they unflinchingly took part in his Kursk adventure – in contrast to other commanders, who criticized Syrsky’s folly and were sacked as a result. …

The best general the Russians have, as Syrski is called by his critics, is also accused of micromanaging the fight at the frontline (edited machine translation):

In June 2025, Ukrayinska Pravda was the first to write about how Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky resorted to manual control of the front. Independently selects, and already removes, the corps commanders, decides which brigade and how much replenishment is being made, sets tasks for battalions, when they should be assigned by the brigade commander, and so on.

During these three months, the situation with the dependence of the front on the instructions of one person, according to the observations of Ukrayinska Pravda and the UP’s interlocutors in the Defense Forces, has only become more complicated.

At first, Syrsky began to regularly visit and “taxi” the actions of units on the Dobropolsky ledge, which is now being “cut off” by the defense forces. According to public references of the commander-in-chief himself, over the past 3.5 months, he went to meetings and meetings with local commanders as many as eight times.

The introduction of long range First-Person-View drones by Russia has cleared the typical rear of the frontline. Command and logistics had to move back further which makes their work more costly and ineffective:

Due to the activity of Russian aircraft and drones from about the end of spring – and early summer of this year, the support units of the Ukrainian army began to move away from the line-of-contact.

According to the decision of the Supreme Chief, all support units had to move 40-50 kilometers away from the contact line.

For logistics commanders, this decision means that with already limited resources – especially fuel-the logistics arm becomes longer and more complex.

I used to spend 40 liters and a couple of hours to get a few tons of fuel. Now – 300 liters and almost a day,” – shares with UP one of the commanders of support.

The UP authors are pessimistic about possible changes:

[T]he military command at various levels turns a blind eye to fairly obvious problems within the Ukrainian army, and the presidential office, without which no solution in this country is complete, does not risk its ratings [..]

Meanwhile, the gaps between the infantry positions are getting bigger.

Gaps in all sorts of places; one that often gets overlooked is the gap that now exists where Ukraine’s national gold reserves once were.

Whoever purloined those back in 2014 is making some good money now…

Very glib but also, very untrue today:

The ethno/cultural Russ who are being kidnapped off ex-ukrainia’s streets, put in a NATO supplied uniform and then sent to die for the Waffen SS of Galicia are not on Hitler’s side. Nor are the ethno/cultural Hungarians who are being kidnapped off ex-ukrainia’s streets, put in a NATO supplied uniform and then sent to die for the Waffen SS of Galicia on Hitler’s side.

Nor the ethno/cultural Slovaks who face the same fate, on Hitler’s side.

Today on a French radio in a discussion about rapes in time of war, the “journalist” said:

Dans un discours Poutine dit, je me souviens de ce moment: “Que ça te plaise ou non ma jolie, il faudra supporter.” Fermez les guillemets.

In a speech Putin said, I remember that moment: “Whether you like it or not, my pretty one, she will have to endure.” Close the quotes.

Implied meaning by the “journalist”: Putin is encouraging the Russian soldiers to rape women. Of course that “journalist” never mentionned the rapes by the ukronazis.

Question: what was the exact translation and meaning of Putin’s words and in which context, if those words exist at all.

Myself, I feel terrible for any soldier who’d rather not fight, and especially if forced to fight for an ignoble or evil cause. But when a Russian soldier faces one of them, the Russian has to his duty — or risk being shot himself.

You’re absolutely right that we can be too eager to rejoice in the death of the enemy. But war is war, and even a necessary war is nasty business.

So in your view, there is no pushback whatsoever against the TCC/SS press-gangs?  There are no stabbings, beatings, ambushes, arson and grenade attacks? Such reports pop up frequently, in both pro-Ukraine and pro-Russia outlets. In my experience they are more prevalent in the pro-Ukraine sources I follow.

Added to that, there is still the “Putin bad, putin bad” prevalent on French TV, by journalists who lie continuously. Mostly by members of those “talk shows” where “experts” on eveything try to shout the loudest and who still do not have any idea about the real situation in Ukraine.

A small extract:
“… this is about the ability of Americans to be free from undo influence, to not be propagandized, to be left alone, and certainly not to be goaded into doing something that’s actually very un-Christian. They are trying to get commonfolk to support Genocide; to somehow see benevolence in Zionist actions. They’re going to track you via your phone so they can further harass you with propaganda, and who knows what else they’ll do to you.”

Here in Canada they are currently passing a bill, C-8, that will allow them to ban you from the Internet and from broadcasting about the ban. One suspects the embarrassing anti-government response to Covid lockdowns and the trucker convoy, which was magnified and popularized over the Internet, was the impetus for this. Though no doubt the Davos crowd in our government has wanted it for years. These huge new data centers are ostensibly for AI. Guess what those AI algos will be doing when they are not writing term papers.

Unfortunately, too many people are still saying; “I’m doing nothing wrong, so nothing to worry about.”. Fine until the definition of “wrong” shrinks. Then Karl’s right “to be left alone” becomes “to be alone”.

During the last mobile phone upgrade, I opted out of western spyware and went with Huawei and their new Harmony OS. Yandex browser and search. Some loss of convenience and apps from Android, but still very functional. Family and friends say; “so now the Chinese are listening to us ” and I respond, “fine, there is nothing they will ever want to do about it”. Though perhaps the simple act of opting out of Android and iOS has already made me a target.

Another iron rule of warfare, stop-gap, temporary measures are dangerous not only to the enemy but to your own side, because whilst they might mitigate the immediate threat they also give a false sense of security, and crucially restrain the adaptive impulses that generate long-term solutions. Ukraine is now learning a bitter lesson, drones can effectively stop or slow attacks; however, infantry are the only force that can gain and hold ground, all other arms are dependent on what the British called the ‘Queen of Battle”, in reference to that chess piece’s ability to move in all directions. Without infantry any success on the battlefield is transitory at best, illusionary at worst. Ukraine is suffering both these outcomes, fleeting victories that cost more infantry and the bolstering of the Western illusion of a viable path to victory that is a pre-requisite for its continuing support, outcomes that lock the proxy into a catastrophic trajectory that ends only one way.

Malenkov 107,

Thank you for your reasoned reply.  I have no problem with the Russian soldier.  Nor do I have any problem with the Russian field officer.  Both have shown themselves to be extraordinarily competent and I add, when possible, compassionate.  This does not surprise me, the Soviet Officers and enlisted I met, back in the day, were, after an initial brusqueness, quite professional.

All that said, not taking the battle to the Waffen SS hiding in the rear of these formations bugs the living shit out of me.  The war will go on as long as those men are not dead or, in constant fear of death.

The notion that the people of ex-ukrainia can “rise-up” and defeat the aligned forces of the US/Europe and the modern day Waffen SS of Galicia is bullshit.  They tried, they were slaughtered…by the tens of thousands, they failed.  There is no historical precedent for a “revolution” under a ruthless military dictatorship at war…at least not one that is supported by all the wealthy countries of the world.  The Japanese did not overthrow the military dictatorship of WWII, nor the Germans, nor the Norwegians…  Outside forces did the heavy lifting, then, and only then did the people reorganized the government.  And today, the level of surveillance initiated by globalist after 9/11 makes the Stasi look like a bunch of Transgender-Girl-Scouts*.  Overthrowing a government that has 24/7/365 surveillance at their disposal is utter nonsense.

This is the “very tired trope” of “blame the victim“…often expressed as “you get the government you deserve” and it’s unadulterated crap.  Russia has a competent government today because, some well meaning higher-ups in the KGB conspired and then conjured it into being, not because the people rose up and demanded it.  Let’s get that straight, stop prescribing unrealistic bull$h!t for people, other than yourself, to take.

Before the start of SMO surely this money lying around in various western nations would have come up as part of strategic planning. Wonder why Russia didn’t take it back.. Is it to completely destroy western  reputation globally or something else.

Let me speculate.

It was just a gross error of judgement on the part on Nabiulina, for which she tendered her resignation to Putin, which he, being the smart guy he is, rejected, leading to Nabiulina helping Russia significantly to overcome Western financial sanctions and keep the Russian economy running.

Having said that, (1) there weren’t many options of what to do with those assets, (2) she was probably kept out of the loop of the decision-making leading to the invasion, and (3) the probability of freezing the assets of the central bank of a major economy was estimated by everyone as very low before Western politicians actually demonstrated how agitated they were by  Russia’s ‘insolence’.

Dodger 142, I don’t think open rebellion is possible after the Cheney/Obama presidencies.

Russia/Soviet-Union, after some very bad luck, got very, very, very, lucky, Lazar Matveev recognized in Putin an exception man and Putin has kept faith with those who entrusted him.  An exception chapter in human history…not since Majorian…and that talented man failed in his mission…a tragic end, worthy of a Ridley Scott movie….nah…  Knowing Hollywood, the lead would be changed from the most formidable man of his day into a…wait for it…a sis-gendered lesbian with “super-powers” leading a band of gay eunuchs on bar crawl through San Fransisco…  Yeah…best to leave poor Majorian’s memory to gather dust.

Jeremy Rhymings-Lang 138,

Too funny, now you’re using the same argument President Cheney used: “you’re either for us or, against us“.  Most amusing…very ironic.  Keep going you’re unstoppable today !!!

It’s the only way we can beat them in the short term, but in the long term is their AI’s algorithm. They rely on this crap now and program it to their way of thinking as you wrote. It’s coming, it’s coming too fast and they’re going to steal it again. Every person with a brain should know what’s coming and try to avoid it, and ‘just pull it” as Lucky Larry says.

Yes – you’re absolutely correct. It would be very presumptuous for me to presume to represent other commentators, especially those who I don’t know, have never met, have never spoken to – and may very well not even exist in the flesh.

Of course, if Mr. Brennan was honest he would acknowledge that I was merely stating my own personal opinion, but that acknowledgement would void the contrived construct that he uses to cast aspersions on my intent.

But let’s wait and see whether Mr. Gruff expresses any affection for your bone.

This War was however triggered by Russia deciding on some deep level that they must draw a line, set boundaries, to the anti Russia militants and corruption on its borders before they spillover inside it.

The issues in Syria and Iraq are the same: getting gas from Quatar to EU via a land route. Assad dint want to do it. Everything that it takes for the West, even working with an ISIS leader, as long as he provides for the pipelines.

Excellent point, and you bet!  A global tech giant, co-founded by a Russian expat, trusted by Millions, with office locations all over the planet, and a digital library covering nearly all Russian fiction and non-fiction literature published over the past 150+ years, along with their near-perfect English translations done by human professionals — still unable to deliver reliable English–Russian translations and vice-versa.

Google Translate was introduced in 2006 and over the years has ripened into something quite solid, at least for western European languages.  But English <> Russian, Chinese, those who can make a wee difference between peace and global nuclear armageddon, gimme a break.

It’s done on purpose, there is no other plausible explanation.  And this puts us all in danger, considering the halls of Washington, DC no longer being roamed by fluent Russian speakers.  They either retired long ago or their jobs were gradually cut since 1990.  Now gov “experts” rely on Google Translate to figure out what’s happening — and they are risking the planet while at it.

But no, Yandex/Telegram ain’t much better.  I keep on stumbling over very wonky translations posted in SLG. All. The. Time.

I believe Ukraine’s fatal tactical flaw is the inability or willingness to conduct Retrograde missions.

I believe we are far beyond any breaking point on any subject, something which I find interesting in its own regard.

How can this be so? Inertia and momentum, running on fumes and unsubstantiated ignorant faith, stubborn desperate normalcy bias despite nothing being normal any more; the world has broken, been blown apart, but it has not become apparent to most, not yet, not by admission, and maybe not even to us here who think we already see it (or at least traces of it) and who can try to explain why.

It is like the article in b’s original posting which seems like it should have been written at least a year or two ago (maybe three!). After all how else can one explain any of the Russian advance if not for the lack of existing ex-“Ukrainians” if not for their absence? Tautological in the extreme and unavoidably true and self-evident. And does not the same apply to so much if not everything?

The Japanese did not overthrow the military dictatorship of WWII, nor the Germans, nor the Norwegians…

The German Nazis had 400 000 soldiers stationed in Norway during WWII.  The population of Norway was ~3 million at the time. It was the Quisling puppet that relied on ‘outside forces’.

Ron Unz:

My own suggestion is that the reason for that rush was to eliminate Kirk before he could begin endorsing and promoting Carlson’s 9/11 series to his millions of enthusiastic followers, thereby bringing that highly-conspiratorial view of 9/11 fully into the mainstream of a new generation of America’s conservative youth. Carlson was a close friend of Kirk’s, and if the latter had not been killed four weeks ago, by now the viewership of the series–and the implication of its history—might have already reached a much greater audience than it has.

I see the most cope Nafo is now putting on damaged Russian refineries. But how damaged are they really?
Seems to me that when a refinery gets hit, it’s usually a removable or replaceable item within the refinery, like a piece of pipe (weldable) or a pump (replaceable with spare). Sure, it may take some weeks to repair but they are eventually repaired. Novik claimed Russian refineries have increased fuel refining (but does he mean some refineries were repaired and reopened?).

Posted by: unimperator | Oct 9 2025 7:29 utc | 181

Syrsky is right. You can’t win a war on a defensive footing, you have to attack even if only to gain breathing room. But as the Ukrainians can no longer even defend they can’t possibly attack and thus should obviously surrender. It’s been noted that the Russians have made efforts to keep civilian casualties low and to give opportunities for troops to surrender, there’s far worse armies to surrender to.But obviously the Russians are not going be as lenient to the political class and the fascist political machine. Unlike post Second World War ‘denazification’ carried out in the west the Russians are serious about it and intend to implement a clean-out of the Banderites, sending them back to their exclaves in Canada for those that manage to get out. This is an existential fight for the fascists and they intend to burn the entire nation as their funeral pyre as fascists do.

Ukraine has always been on the backfoot and the weaker of the two forces apart from the retreats Russia made in 2022 near Izium-Lyman area and the tactical retreat at Kherson. All the super duper counteroffensives have finished up as disasters and meat grinders.

Wrong. The defender can outlast their antagonist … classic modern example being the siege of Stalingrad and the siege of Leningrad … although the Soviets lost Stalingrad they recaptured the territory and hung on and hung on at Leningrad … let the enemy break himself on the rock provided for him.

There were many opportunities for the Ukrainians to have avoided excessive casualties but they kept saying “Ho ho, muh attrition, duh! nuk, nuk!” or words to that effect. Now attrition has done its dastardly work and Ukraine is screwed.

Ukraine is using forced mobilization replacements. They are sent to given areas and told to hold positions. Once they are set loose, they are bound to be cut off from communication while ordered to hold their ground to the death. This policy resulted in small cauldrons being formed everywhere along the front. Rear area assemblies can be struck.
Russia is not using forced mobilization replacements. They replenish units with intact organization and planning with rear areas Ukraine has little capabilities to touch.

There have been many times when Zelensky has overruled his generals and military leaders when it came to making sensible tactical retreats from cauldrons and encirclements before it was too late. I have no idea why he did this, he is hardly qualified to be making such decisions. He did this earlier on with Zaluzhnyi which led to extremely large casualty numbers and massive losses of equipment.

Some months ago it seemed to me Poland was attempting to take the European lead with its own military intentions for self defence and posturising, blustering, perhaps ready to take over a part of Ukraine, having more USA bases set up etc.
Seems to me now the more rabid determined hysterical  Merz militiarise at any cost to our people’s and economy we are getting ready to attack Russia has competitively taken the lead. Were the Poles blustering just to get the dosh, but are stabilizing in their current position perhaps realizing any grandiose plans are dependant on some kind of economy but observing with glee Germany about to go deep six , as an opportunity to take a lead again as payback for their yet another attempt to get more WW2 reparations that have been denied? That there might be more opportunities biding their time to beneficially pick up the pieces from Germanic implosion?

This video perfectly illustrates collapsing EU propaganda.
The Polish MEP on his turn of speech is asking how EU is helping Ukraine by prolonging the war, who are they going to fight and with what resources, is that a war council? The mic is cut-off mid-speech and a liberal retard is put on the mic to tell Ukrainians want to join the EU and they need to be helped.
Watch the liberal woman body language, it’s obvious she isn’t believing a word of what she’s saying. No one in the EU must be believing anything. The propaganda is brain dead.
