Ukraine’s Victory Redefined

September 8, 2025

In November 2022 the (former) President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenski published a 10 point 'peace plan'.

5. Restoring Ukraine's territorial integrity and Russia reaffirming it according the U.N. Charter, which Zelenskiy said is "not up to negotiations".

6. Withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities, restoration of Ukraine's state borders with Russia.

10. Confirmation of the war's end, including a document signed by the involved parties.

In September 2024 Zelenski raised the curtain of his Victory Plan for Ukraine. As I wrote at that time:

The 'victory plan' is not about a real plan for Ukraine's action but a list of demands towards the 'western' supporters of Ukraine.

The theory in Kiev is that a fulfillment of these demands will allow Ukraine to win the war and to press Russian into accepting Ukraine's 10 point 'peace plan'.

As explained by a Zelinski advisor:

A source close to Zelensky told the Kyiv Independent that the "victory plan" aims "to create such conditions and such an atmosphere that Russia will no longer be able to ignore the peace formula and the peace summit."

"The problem is, to get to that point where we have any sort of peace negotiations, Russia must feel like they're going to lose, and we are not there yet," Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee in Congress, told the Kyiv Independent.

"I hope part of this victory plan is how we can shape battlefield conditions to reach that point," said Panetta, who met Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials in Kyiv last weekend.

I commented that:

The 'victory plan' requests are of course outrageous and delusional and have little to no chance to be fulfilled.

Nearly a year later the delusional demands of the 10 points 'peace plan' and the Victory Plan have made room for more realistic expectations. There will be no NATO or EU membership for Ukraine. It will lose a significant part of its land to Russia and will have to settle the war under Russian conditions.

Zelenski seems to now acknowledge that when he redefines what victory means:

Zelenskyy spoke to ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz Friday in an interview that aired on ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday.

Asked by Raddatz what victory looks like for his embattled country, Zelenskyy said the survival of Ukraine.

"Putin's goal is to occupy Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

"[Putin] wants, of course, to occupy us totally. For him, this [is] victory. And until he can do it, the victory is on our side," he said. "So that's why for us to survive is a victory. Because we are surviving with our identity, with our country, with our independence."

There is zero evidence that Putin's, or -more correct- Russia's goal was or is to occupy Ukraine.Russia wants to liberate the Russian population that, since the 1990s, was trapped in east Ukraine. He wants to prevent that Ukraine joins NATO. Neither requires the Russian army to move into the feverish anti-Russia center and western parts of Ukraine.

But it is of course convenient to claim that and to declare victory even after the government has moved to Lviv (aka Lvov, Lemberg) near the Polish border and called it a day.

I just wonder how the population there would react if Zelenski or his successor were then to arrange a well deserved Victory parade.

The military used one fourth of its THAAD interceptors to defend Israel. Imagine how many it would need to defend Taiwan.
This summer’s “12-Day War” between Israel and Iran exposed what Washington should have long known: the US military’s air and missile defense architecture is not ready for a long fight against a capable enemy. However, the United States still expended nearly 25 percent of the total number of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile interceptors during the short conflict. Not a quarter of all our THAAD interceptors bought last year, but a full one-fourth of all of these systems ever procured.

In the twelve days of fighting between Israel and Iran, over 150 THAAD interceptors were launched at Iran’s more advanced ballistic missiles. This is over three times the average annual procurement of around 40 interceptors since 2010. At $15.5 million per interceptor, this puts the armed forces on an unsustainable trajectory. Even if the Pentagon increases current orders beyond the meager 12 funded in the 2025 budget, it still takes 3 years between the date a contract is awarded and when the interceptors are delivered. Now imagine how much would be needes to defend Europe, at $15.5 million per missile, and two missiles shot for every incoming missile.

General lifespan of a hunter gatherer was about 45 years. A bit rough going at times being a hunter gatherer. Humans have been channelling water since ancient Mesopotamia. China probably began channelling water in places around that time too.
In China, the southern river used to periodically flood killing hundreds of millions. In the north it is or was dry. Quite an impressive feat channelling water from the southern river to the northern river.
China have now decided to go ahead with the hydro project on the river that lows out through India and Bangladesh. It will put out three times the electricity of the three gorges dam. That will be an impressive project worth watching.

I just read EU is planning sanctions on Kazakhstan under their secondary sanction scheme. Whoever is planning this is giving a major gift for Russia, China and the BRICS. Kazakhstan originated uranium is also a major source of supply for the EU, by the way.

I am not a historian, the following (after this paragraph) is what I think is true at this moment (before being corrected! 😀 ). I think there are good sources for the following/my opinion. I asked for supporting sources in an older thread but haven’t yet had the time to go thoroughly through each of the sources people provided (I have the tab open still —and bookmarked too, guess I should make some offline copies also or at least check that I have copied the relevant parts (aaargh, busy, busy, busy 😛 )— even though the thread is closed), and btw thank you to all of those who responded to that although a few misunderstood what I was looking for, no big deal nor any problem 🙂
So… “Germany” was split into four after WWII and the defeat of the nazis (or at least the Hitler government). None of the four parts had any sovereignty and each were run by foreign military commands, nor after the four parts coalesced into West Germany and East Germany were either part independent of foreign oversight and control ie. no real sovereignty.
Then after reunification Germany is still under de facto US control, at least militarily.
However…
1. The German reunification is currently void due to German involvement in the conflict in ex-“Ukraine” which breaks the stipulated requirements for its existence both in current form and indeed in any form as per a UN agreement soon after the creation of the UN after WWII.
In other words Germany is currently an illegitimate nation and legally Russia can demand to be given back political and military control not only of the former East Germany but all of Germany. Russia could but haven’t, not so far anyway.
2. If Kallas instead of talking about sovereignty had talked about “nazi survival” she would obviously (and sadly) be correct, they survived all too well… (both in the west and in the east).
Maybe someone should make her talk much more about what she is thinking, why so, and what opinion she really holds… give her plenty of time to clarify every little detail to the public… :3
Anyway, that is my interpretation/view of things.
Ps. all errors and any stupidity in this comment is to be blamed on not having had more than three hours of sleep in the last thirty hours (and physical exertion, been too active) 😀

That is wrong.
Once one takes out the high infant mortality hunter gathers lived around the same life expectancy as we have today. (1)
1. Hunter-gatherers had a relatively short average life expectancy at birth, around 30-35 years, due to high infant mortality and infectious diseases. However, those who survived childhood often lived much longer, with many reaching into their 60s or 70s, demonstrating a significant adult life expectancy similar to modern humans.

Germany will notgive Ukraine a further 4.5billion as requested bythe green party and EU economies havesuffered huge losses in manufacturing businesses and jobs being lost in first 6 months of this year, worse than 2009.total, 72 large industrial enterprises in the EU announced plans to close from January 1 to August 31 this year. The last time there were more was in the crisis year of 2009, when 81 industrial companies closed during the same period. At the same time, even in the coronavirus year, only 49 enterprises closed.
EU still seemsto be thinking of fast tracking Ukraine some saying conditions have been met…obviously not and those that have been waiting sooo long are rather miffed.

Strikes on designated targets have begun
A few days ago, together with the naval special forces unit, we called upon (https://t.me/dva_majors/78725) Ukrainian citizens to report important objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Black Sea direction, and today we have the first results.
Our “Geranists” struck the Shkolny airfield in Odessa, from where drone launches are carried out towards Crimea and the Krasnodar region.
The port of Odessa was also attacked, where cargo ships have been actively entering over the past month and a half, accompanied by boats of the Ukrainian Navy.
Several more hits were recorded near the railway line in the Balkovskaya Street area.
The “Adzhalyk 330 kV” substation, which supplies one of the key logistics facilities of the enemy – the Yuzhny port – was also hit.
In addition, Krivoy Rog was struck, where the “Gerans” and “Iskanders” inflicted fire damage on the city’s industrial zone.

In the early days, modern humans had the same basic toolkit as neanderthals. Stones for grinding seeds, twine, and stone napping.
When Europeans Brits arrived here the Australian Aborigines still had the same basic tool kit. The advances in technology in Eurasia had passed them by.
Most early societies, it seems men would go out to hunt some meat and the mums would go out with the kids to gather the veg. Up until the great global warming of this current interglacial, there were lots of big things running about.
Archaeology or whatever the bone botherers are called shows that by age 45, the men were pretty busted up and few lived beyond that age.
Once you hit around the 45 mark the body starts slowing down and you have to be quite fit to maintain that sort of lifestyle.

By mid 2022, there was seven million refugees in Russia and ten million had gone to Europe. Then the referendums in the four region and more millions were no longer Ukrainians and had gone back to Russia.
In 2023 or 24, a Ukraine MP said there was 17 million sim cards in Kiev controlled Ukraine.

Alexander the Great’s crack troops troops, the Hypastists or Silver Shields were never beaten -their average age was 60; some of them in their mid 70’s. (1)
Why? Because they marched 20 miles every day then bivouacked so they stayed in shape..
I am 63- I can do 45 push ups one one try- when I was 19 playing QB/Defensive halfback all I could do was 30.
All one has to do to stay in shape -is exercise; eat properly (no process foods,no sugars, not much fruit- a Keto diet is preferable); drink alcohol moderalely and sleep well.
And don’t let your doctors tell you about YOUR health-work it out yourself.
I have gotten 5 people off insulin just be changing their diet, and exercising.

In the mid forties, the immune system starts to. For some it doesn’t but that’s about the age for the majority. This tick bite thing I’ve got only hits men in their forties or older. Younger people are not affected by it. It completely fucks the system.
I, not a big bloke but before getting hit with this, it wasn’t an issue to lift a hundred kilo lick block onto the tray of a 4WD.
About ten years ago, I was working with my mate fixing his digger. He slipped and fell, hanging by his trapped leg. The angle it was trapped at I thought it was going to snap so raced around the other side to lift him up. 90kg minus the weight of his trapped leg and a couldn’t fucking lift him. I guess I took enough weight he could get his leg out. That leg should have snapped. He must have bones made of concrete reo-bar.

The immune system DOES start to go. For me it was mid 50s though as I was doing quite well in karate with powerful kicks. One powerful kick where my foot was at a bad angle and… well my foot STILL has not fully recovered. Oh I can still walk and even run on it a bit, and put weight on it. But karate on it? No longer.
Keep doing what you are doing. Be careful of injuries despite your belief that you are invulnerable. You are until you are not, and then it’s too late to go back.
And MOST DEFINITELY keep doing what you are doing. Starting in your 60s, and to a lesser extend for you 50s, stuff in our bodies that breaks stays broken.

Indeed, more precisely ~12,800 years ago, which is literally yesterday in both geologic and even human timeframes.
It wasn’t just an event that killed millions of people, YD was an event that erased a global civilization literally over night. Modern (13,000 years ago is modern) history must be understood in light of this. Before the YD event a civilization existed that was very advanced, some remains proving this can still be seen today if we care to understand what we are looking at (Barabar caves in India, pyramids of Egypt, Sachsayhuaman in Peru are some few examples). It took ~7000 years for the few survivors to reboot a new civilization in Mesopotamia.
Mesopotamia was not the beginning, it was continuation.

If one takes care of oneself -Keto diet, fasting, proper sleep, resistance training, little to no fruit or sugar , low stress one’s immune system will be fine even later in life.
Using age as an excuse for bad health is ubiquitous but is essentially incorrect.

Top level fighters. The good ones can sometimes go through their twenties and even their thirties without losing a bout. But then they start losing. Very few keep going till mid forties but then they are losing half their bouts or more.

Andrew Kramer, the NYT article lead reporter: He just makes stuff up about Russian badness. This has been true since before the 2014 coup in Ukraine.
It’s amazing that NYT thinks it can still employ him as a reporter. In many regards, Kramer is worse than David Sanger, and the infamous Michael Gordon, who was the lead author of the “Judith Miller” Iraq WMDs reporting in the fall of 2002. (Gordon was at the NYT for 30+ years until going to the WSJ in 2018 — where he continues to publish garbage.)

coincidence Poland gets the dosh and next day so called? group of Russian drones fly into Poland air space and although Nato does not call it an attack everyone’s alarm bells go off? Ukr still trying to set off ww3…could they have captured some or copied Russia ones to send over…what exactly were the flight radar tracks?

Also, I recall a story on Polish TV before 2022, where some “prophet” was saying he saw an empty Poland bordering Ukraine and a mass exodus of Poles, hinting at nuclear weapons being used on Poland near Rzeszów.
