The BEICs armies were a proxy force of the English Crown and British Government.
Over time these companies, particularly the East India Company, having armies also became a way for the British to fight proxy wars, notably with the French. The Companies were a force multiplier, with the state able to call on their navies and armies where necessary, pushing them into war as part of state action, but without the direct costs of having to maintain a standing army. That cost was on the company itself. This was particularly notable in the Seven Years War where the East India Company’s armies had to fight proxy wars in India against French Interest. This war for instance is cited as one of the reasons why Clive pushed to conquer Bengal, out of a desire to prevent Siraj Ud Daulah from favoring the French. Its worth noting that in converting India to a Crown Colony, and promising them equal treatment as subjects of the Imperial Crown, Britain actually spurred the process which led to the eventual demise of Empire. Early nationalists in India cited Queen Victoria’s proclamation in 1858 as the start of anticolonial rhetoric demanding equal treatment as British subjects.

Yes I agree, Russia is desperate to keep its bases in Syria, so getting along with the head chopping regime will be on the cards – the USA and Russia will also carve up the Arctic between them, the wars between Russia and the USA – are usually fought through proxy nations – but at the end of the day, when the conditions are right, they get together to further both their interests, whilst we the masses, back one or the other on certain situations, whilst not really knowing what’s going on behind the curtain.

My ancestors, on my mother’s side, were slaves on St Helena. They were used as unskilled manual labourers and also responsible for seeing to needs of the English’ celebrity prisoner, Napoleon Bonaparte. It breaks my heart when I am reminded of this period. There are no formal records of the slaves of St Helena and I only know as much as my grandfather told me while he was alive, he passed on when I was in my mid 20’s.
After the abolition of slavery, the St Helena slaves were mostly set free in British African protectorates, (colonies). The slaves were only ever known by their first names and assumed the surnames of their “masters”. All attempts to trace the origin of my Great, Great, Great grand parents has come to nought.
C.F. Nobel visited St Helena in 1747 and condemned the inhumanity of the slavery on the Island:
This being the first place where I had ever access to see the slavery of our fellow creatures, I could not help bewailing their hard fortune, and being sensibly touched at the sight of their misery. My heart silently pleaded on their behalf, and pitied their masters insensibility, and sometimes cruelty, at the same time that I condemned them. I would understand it if that was indeed Russia’s game.
But it’s a tactically and strategically stupid game.
The fastest way to lose those bases would have been to allow the Syrian state to fall by playing the strategy of Embalming they began with ten years ago.
It was known a decade ago that the Syrian state would eventually collapse because of Russia’s choice to Embalm Syria rather than seek a clear victory over the terrorist nests in Idlib.
The hollowing out of the Syrian army was an inevitable consequence of Russia’s “Strategy of Embalming”, initiated around 2015.
As for sharing the arctic, the Russians have learned nothing, it seems.

I think what happened in Syria was that the Gulf States turned Assad’s head promising him this and that, Putin warned Assad – not to get to deeply involved with them, but he didn’t listen so Russia moved slightly away from Syria, and the Gulf States betrayed Assad – and it became more evident in Russia’s half-hearted defence of Syria, once the coup was in full flow, not long after the the fall of Assad, Russia, made public that they wanted to keep their military bases in Syria, so I guess the side meetings with the chief head chopper included a conversation about that.
As far as I know these are the Russian bases in Syria.

It was a small-scale trade of personal slaves, as you can see by the only small numbers of blacks in the Middle East today. There was a beginning of such agricultural slavery in the 9th century, called the Zanj, but it soon stopped. The exception of mass slavery were the military slaves, called Mamluks, mostly white Turks, or Slavs, but there were some black Africans. Mamluks were not slaves in the normal sense. They probably had as many rights as anybody else, and could rise high in society. The Mamluk dynasty in Egypt were themselves mamluks.

Barcelona and Tunisian ships plan to meet Greek ships tomorrow; Israel again threatens humanitarian convoy
A boat left Sicily this morning to join roughly 50 ships sailing under the banner of the Global Sumud Flotilla. The flotilla’s navigation spokesperson told Drop Site the weather remains favorable, with ships from Barcelona and Tunisia expected to meet at least six vessels from Greece tomorrow. Storms still loom for Friday, but forecasts have improved. Over the weekend, the flotilla will enter the “orange zone,” the likeliest place for Israeli interception, with the fleet now just six days from Gaza.
On Tuesday, Israel’s foreign ministry again threatened the convoy on X, claiming “the flotilla insists on pursuing a violent course of action.” In reality, the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) is unarmed, carrying humanitarian aid, and committed to non-violent action to break Gaza’s siege.

In their very recognition of a fantastical state of Palestine, the historic enemies of the Palestinian people insist on removing Hamas, the last democratically elected political party chosen by a majority of the Palestinians living under occupation, from any political equation for the future of Palestine.
As Israel’s extermination campaign in Gaza continues unabated, this week’s statehood theatrics were designed above all to recognise its right to remain a Jewish supremacist state.
For their part in sustaining this order, the quisling PA collaborators were consecrated as the official representatives of the Palestinian people.

Whatever occurs, they will just disappear and be unheard of later, and there will be nothing more to say.

The answer is Yes and No. Context is required. The Bengal Famine was 1943 in the middle of a war when Britain was fighting to survive. British civilians were on rations because the priority was feeding the soldiers.
So, one can say Yes in that Churchill put the British soldiers first and that made the Bengali Famine worse, but also No, because it was not an intentional decision to starve Indians but the result of an intentional decision in the midst of war to survive.
Also worth looking at the history of famines in India. They were common, until British colonial rule when the incidence of famine diminished.

Of interest; it is apparently impossible now to keep track of the number of Palestinians who have starved to death. The last number given was over 450, but that was a week or ten days ago, and there are few (if any) hospitals functioning in Gaza now for the people to report the death of their loved ones. I did a brief search, and was amazed to see an entire article on wikipedia regarding the intentional famine/starvation of the Strip. The article is actually very complete and accurate as to the facts. I downloaded a PDF for myself, since wikipedia tends to be rewritten as soon as someone realizes the truth is being broadcast.
