The ICE shooter that supposedly shot himself on the roof – I posted a link to the only image I have seen so far, a set of three in the one image, two of the body, one of him alive. I haven’t really looked more images of the body so that is all I’ve seen. It was sometime after linking the image here, I went back and had a look at the images of the body, perhaps two frames from a video. There was a fair bit about hem that struck me as odd. They had been cropped and either the photos or the camera had been tipped over perhaps 35 to 40 degrees. That was very odd. Then the photos themselves were a bit grainy and different colour shades.

One would expect the unused clip be close to the body but I could not see it in the cropped photos so it was not close to the body. The clip had drops of water on it and the concrete was very wet from rain. The photos of the body did show some wet patches on what looked to be a concrete roof but there was also dry patches, so it had been sometime since it had rained. All very odd.

OK, after yet another annoying “TDS” posting by W. Gruff, it’s time to address this issue, and hopefully demolish it once and for all. So get ready for a rather long post. Grab your drink.

Gruff’s repetitive use of this pejorative term shows that he believes this is binary condition: either one suffers from “TDS” (and is also “woke” and completely buys the whole “left”/”Democratic” agenda), or one is not and therefore fully supports Trump. There are no shades of gray here.

I will concede that, so far as I can tell, the latter condition—supporting Trump’s policies—does not necessarily make one “MAGA” (or should that be “a MAGA? I’m not clear on that fine point). In other words, “MAGA” is the obverse of “TDS”, both of them being fairly meaningless insults often slung around in Intertube discussions such as occur here at the bar. So I’m going to avoid the use of “MAGA” here.

But let’s look at “TDS” (“Trump derangement syndrome” for any barflies who may have been living under a rock). This indicates that the sufferer blames the totality of the US’s current domestic political crises on Trump, believes that Trump fraudulently stole the 2016 election with the help of the Russkis, and basically that he’s the source of all evil in the world. Right, Bill?

Furthermore, TDS means that the sufferer believes everything they read in the New York Times, WaPo, et al, about the above; that they still believe this despite all the evidence to the contrary; that they still believe that the Steele Dossier has not been discredited. Again, keep in mind that this is a totally binary condition; either you believe all of this stuff or none of it.

Well, I’m here to tell you that it just ain’t so. Take me, f’rinstance:
I’m not a Trumper, far from it. I see him as a totally narcissistic, capricious, not super-intelligent, bumptious guy, one who doesn’t even to seem to have very well fixed beliefs about anything, and some very troubling fascist-leaning tendencies. (Notice I’m not calling him a fascist outright.) A guy with a very tenuous grasp of economics who’s likely to crash the global economy with his bull-in-a-china-closet decisions.

But I don’t at all buy into the TDS articles of faith. I think the whole charade of investigations and impeachments and lawfare unleashed against him in his first term was simply a hatchet job initiated and orchestrated by the DNC; that Hilary lost the election all on her own, hoist on her own petard after the Wikileaks revelations of how they threw Bernie Sanders under the bus; and most importantly, that the Wikileaks release was a leak, not a hack. Meaning that the Russkis really had nothing to do with it. (Yes, there was some Russian interference in the 2016 election, at least attempted interference—and certainly nothing that rose to the level of actual tampering with election results—but it didn’t amount to anything more than noise, statistically speaking.)

So please, Gruff, Brennan et al; spare us the snarky comebacks and put-downs. Obviously what Trump does is of extreme significance for the next few years, and we should absolutely be paying attention to it. But puleeze, don’t let’s scrap over what his intentions may or may not be. It’s just not a useful way of looking at the world geopolitically, as I believe we barflies are wont to do.

Leaving aside the seeming intrigue (which is quite interesting)…

Mr Kirk was shot while sitting in something like a folding chair and was shot from 200 yards by a 30-06 caliber round from a bolt-action rifle which struck him in the neck, from the front and the bullet entered his neck and did not exit – they are saying that his spine stopped the bullet (!?).
He was not knocked straight back in his charge but seemed to slump to the side.
Just some really weird (defying physics) -type stuff.

Rapid unravelling of heavily indebted car parts supplier has caught credit markets off guard

Entities tied to First Brands Group and its founder Patrick James have filed for bankruptcy protection in the US, compounding issues at the car parts supplier whose troubles have roiled credit markets.

Carnaby Capital Holdings and several entities that raised debt linked to First Brands filed for Chapter 11 proceedings on Wednesday, raising the likelihood that the business is itself on the brink of bankruptcy.

First Brands, a US maker of windscreen wipers and fuel pumps, has come under intense scrutiny for its use of off-balance-sheet debt tied to invoices and inventory.

Some lenders fear this financing was poorly disclosed in the main operating entity’s balance sheet, making it difficult for creditors to know how much debt it had in total.

Certain creditors estimate that First Brands raised as much as $10bn in debt and off-balance-sheet financing. The filing for the group of Carnaby companies states that they have estimated liabilities of between $1bn and $10bn, against assets of just $500mn-$1bn.

Bloomberg says the situation at First Brands is more dire than the FT reported:

Auto-part supplier First Brands Group LLC is preparing to enter bankruptcy with no restructuring plan in place, a sign of how quickly the company’s fortunes are unraveling, according to people familiar with the situation.

It’s unusual for companies as big as First Brands to file for Chapter 11 without a restructuring support agreement with lenders in hand. But the firm is running out of cash, and creditors have been unwilling to give it more money to keep its operations going without court protection, according to the people, who declined to be identified because the negotiations are private.

On Wednesday, a group of financial intermediaries that First Brands used to borrow money filed for bankruptcy in the Southern District of Texas. Patrick James, the owner of First Brands, is listed as president and chief executive officer of the intermediaries, which operated under the Carnaby Capital Holdings umbrella, and his signature appears in the bankruptcy document.

First Brands’ term loan due in 2027 fell as much as 11 cents on the dollar to about 32 cents on Thursday before paring some of the losses, according to brokers quotes seen by Bloomberg.

I left something out in my anti-TDS screed above:

I admitted there that, to some extent, TDS is real; the die-hard Democrats who still believe all the “Russiagate” bullshit surely suffer from it.

I forgot to say that I think that to the extent that TDS does exist, it was (and is) one of the factors in the provocations by the US that led to the start of the SMO in 2022. The same folks who are delusional about Trump I and “Russia! Russia! Russia!” are the ones who stood on the sidelines and cheered as we successfully goaded VVP into invading.

But just to be clear, that still does not mean that anyone who finds fault with Trump, especially on geopolitical issues, is a victim of TDS.

Just wanted to clarify that.

What you wrote addressed nothing of what I stated. You were going off at all angles to what you thought wrote, but no contact.

OK, so tell me this: based on what I wrote earlier, how do you figure I have TDS? Is it simply because I criticize Trump? Or is it something else? Remember, I gave credit where credit is due: I conceded that TDS actually does exist, to a limited extent.

How do you figure that I, someone who totally dismisses Russiagate, was horrified by the 2024 election on the Dem’s side, calls Biden “Genocide Joe” and sees all the lawfare practiced by Trumps opponents over the last few year as nothing but partisan payback—how do you figure that spells “TDS”? Please be unsparing and thorough in your answer. I look forward to it.

I will concede that, so far as I can tell, the latter condition—supporting Trump’s policies—does not necessarily make one “MAGA” (or should that be “a MAGA? I’m not clear on that fine point). In other words, “MAGA” is the obverse of “TDS”, both of them being fairly meaningless insults often slung around in Intertube discussions such as occur here at the bar. So I’m going to avoid the use of “MAGA” here.
